DIY vehicle maintenance
A couple days ago there were a few posts about doing vehicle work yourself. I'm not super car savvy, but I do my own oil and brakes. Today I had to replace a heater core in my truck - a task that required removing my dashboard. I've never removed a dash, it was indeed a pain in the ass, and it took most of the day. But the first shop I asked about it quoted me $3,000 (US) and Repair Pal estimated $1,800. The part itself only cost $80 + $30 in extra coolant. This entire job was done in my garage with only a single socket set and a couple YouTube videos. Nothing fancy, no special tools required. You can do it dads, and you can save your family a small fortune and teach yourself (and maybe your kids) some valuable skills while you're at it!

Artist u/kilderov, whom you can read about here, was forced to leave occupied Nova Kakhovka for his own safety. He now sells his work to support the civilians in his city and the warriors from it, who are mostly fighting in and around Bakhmut. In addition to his ongoing painted shells initiative, he's currently selling a limited edition series of engraved knives signed by the artist. Also, check out his latest post and DM him if anything catches your eye! (What I wouldn't give to be able to afford one of his boomsticks boomboxes....)
So far, Ukraine, you've helped him raise over $16,000 for Humanity, which provides humanitarian aid and evacuation in Nova Kakhovka and Kherson, and for Nova Kakhovka's warriors at the front. Here's a great example of what he's doing with the funds you help him raise.

  • Hospitallers: This is a medical battalion that unites volunteer paramedics and doctors to save the lives of soldiers on the frontline. They crowdfund their vehicle repairs, fuel, and medical equipment.

So the title pretty much covers it. A little background. I'm a mechanical design engineer with 14 years of experience. I'm 37 so I have quite a bit of time left and I'm totally burnt out on my current career. My job mandates 43-45 hour work weeks and frequently ups the hours to 47-50 whenever a project looks like it is running behind. We are salary but they treat us like hourly. There is almost no option to work remotely. In general, every place I've worked has an office environment that feels like it's from 15 years ago. Any discussion of stress, burn out, work-life balance and then the old tropes start raining from the sky. No one wants to work anymore. We are a family here and we all have to make sacrifices. on and on and on. My job is almost always connected to a production floor or shop and every job I've worked at uses that as an excuse to treat the department the same way they do hourly labor "in order to be fair". I'm not knocking hourly labor, I'm just saying they are (unjustly) treated like shit and I want out. It always comes with the "good old boy" toxic masculinity tuff guy environment. I'm sick to death of some 60 year old shop guy going on about how "damn engineers don't know shit, I've seen a bolt half that size hold up and we have always done it this way"
So now that I'm done complaining about what I don't want. Can you guys please take a look at my work history and skills below and suggest different careers where I might be able to utilize my experience? My goals for a new career are: remote or hybrid if possible, a professional white-collar environment, a less "old school" setting where I'm treated as a partner and not a replacable drone.
Job 1: Custom designed mobile work equipment for railroads, utilities, heavy industry.
I became a jack of all trades here because it was a smaller department.
- Structural design: Designing the truck body to support cranes, heavy equipment, dump beds etc. Including reasonably extensive FEA
- Sheet metal design
-Electrical system design: Mostly 12v DC systems to control the machine. I became the "electrical guy" and managed the majority of the systems. I eventually redesigned their electrical achritecture to be more modern. Included a PLC, did some basic printed circuit board design
-Programming: This went along with being the "electrical guy". I did a good amount of ladder logic, PLC programming, learned a bit of structured text, hexidecimal messaging on the CAN bus networks that run modern vehicles.
-Hydraulics: I was also responsible for creating the hydraulic systems. Designed a few custom valves for the company. All the usual stuff. Pumps, valves, control systems. Open and closed center style systems.
Job 2: Custom automation machines for high volume consumer and medical products
-Continuous motion and a little indexing machine design
-Working extensively with machining processes: CNC, lathe, laser and water jet, wire EDM, etc.
-Pneumatic design
This was all high tolerance / high precision design work. The part control throughout the machine typically needed to be maintained within a few thousandths. Machines turned out between 200-1000 parts per minute. So component wear, heat management, and cycle time calculations were all mixed into the design.
I've had a few other jobs but all of them overlapped or share the same skill sets so I don't want to be redundant. I'm willing do learn more programming and move that direction if I can find something that doesn't invalidate all my previous experience. I.E hopefully not have to take a massive pay cut and start over again.

So I lucked up and have a first row ticket at midfield for the Wrexham AFC vs Chelsea FC game in Chapel Hill, NC next month. I’ve been looking to buy a home jersey/kit but two things come up.
1: Do you think they’ll have the new 2023/2024 jerseys/kits ready and on sale at the event? Or they’ll more than likely come up later on the official site (and pray they don’t sell out so fast)? It seems they would make a killing with the New Jerseys/kits ready for sale at the games they have in the USA tour.
B: I’ve heard that the size I wear (XXL) wears more like a XL at best, maybe even a L. Can anyone confirm or debunk this?

In recognition of the Spring bunny helping 11111 friends here is one of my favorite units.
Ever since her refine Spring Veronica has seen play on many of my team comps. One of my favorite modes to use her in is Arena.
Build 1: Starting strong with her Prf weapon Veufolnirs egg that boosts attack and speed and provides the orders buff to allies within 2 spaces. While not as strong as B! Catria and her triangle attack, having orders buff in arena is very useful.
Rally Def/Res. Combined with her weapon allows for a +6 buff to all stats for a bonus unit of choice.
Special- Ruptured sky. Being a flying unit without special cooldown is her biggest weakness. In arena her special is more for scoring than practical use.
A slot: following up from her special G duel flying 4 provides better scoring as well as solid boosts to all her stats.
B Slot: Spd preempt is a niche skill and it doesn’t score the highest. That being said I do believe S! Veronica is one of the few units that can pull off spd preempt effectively. I can’t count the number of times that this skill has helped her bait out matchups against common arena annoyances such as Duo Corrin, ninja Lyn or even L! Alm to name a few. Giving a nuke a mixed phase is one of my favorite things about Speed Preempt as a skill.
C slot: spd/res hold. Yes I did fodder Brave Byleth to Veronica and it was totally worth it.
S slot: more attack and speed more damage
Build 2: more focused for Aether Raids and Summoner duels Veronica dumps scoring for going all out with damage.
Life and death is placed in her A and S slot to maximize her attack and match attack at 72 in with her bff Edelgard who can handle all those pesky melee matchups. With the help of L!Eliwood this grants bonus doubler and canto to further increase her attack. Coincidentally Muspell (as a dragon unit) also can reach 72 attack giving all 3 the stat buffs. Muspell also gives Veronica true damage that allows her to cut through even special based damage reduction.
To wrap things up I’m very happy with Spring Veronica’s refine and I hope that every unit can get a weapon that helps them stand out and makes using the unit fun. plz Nagi I’m hoping for you!

2023.06.05 02:59 dnvrdank [USA, CO] Vehicle damage involving two other parties and no accident

Hi Reddit,
Two months ago Neighbor A started a construction project. They brought in dump trucks way oversized for the alley and maneuvered them on an easement owned by myself and another adjacement easement owned by Neighbor B. When they did so they destoryed Neighbor B's cement and did less damage to my cement because it is much newer. I know there is damage done, even if it cant be seen or only represented by hairline cracks.
Neighbor A has owned up to the damage in text and said he would make it temporarily usable until it was re-poured. This week the cement trucks came and went without a fix, if that is relevant.
This week I was reversing out of my easement and from the video it appears a chunk of cement broke off, and when I went forward the large block flipped up into my wheel-well and scraped the entire side of my car (trim) and did some TBD under body damage.
I suppose my initial question is, is Neighbor A liable due to their negligent damage to the easements? Not repairing it in due time or communicating it was not safe to use even though it was on another person property? I want them to fully repair my car, pay for depreciation (it WAS in mint condition, 4k miles on it and newish), and also re-pour my driveway even though it's not as shredded as the other side.
I should also note that I have two cameras on the area in question with videos captured by motion detection dating back about a year.

About a month ago my Car stopped being able to reverse. I was given these codes P0827A P287A. While in reverse after a couple of seconds it slowly moves forward.The clicking noise it used make(which is supposed to be normal) is more aggressive. In drive it moves but is revs higher before switching gears. I bought and replaced actuator B which did nothing. I went in the transmission and put in new forks but still the same problem. I sent the Tcm for repair but still nothing. The codes im given now are P0827A P0607 I will now try to get the ecm checked. Are there any other suggestions on what this problem could be or what i should check?
