In 2003, humans created the first ever anthropomorphic animal (furry). In 2024, 2 years after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia attacks Poland with nuclear weapons, and all of NATO responds. This marks the beginning of the first and last all-out Nuclear war. Only a week before, however, you (a furry, customizable in the introduction) were arriving at your new friend's house, when you are promptly bagged and abducted. You are taken to a building, and locked in a 4×4 foot room for hours. Then, the "room" begins descending like an elevator. It descends for a whole 10 minutes before the door pops open. A voice crackles overhead, telling you to step forward and find an empty pod. The rest are occupied by other furries of different species. Once you find your pod and step inside, it closes. You are poked with a needle, and just before you pass out, your pod is filled with a dense, slimy green liquid. Once you wake up, the pod opens, and you fall out of it, the liquid splashing all around you. You struggle to get up for a few seconds. Once you do, your movement is severely impaired, and you fall down a few other times. Looking around, you see all the other pods are open, and a few of the furries were already dead when the pod opened. They lie on the floor, in various states of decomposition. A different voice, a robotic one would crackle overhead, telling you to get to the exit. The exit is another elevator which brings you to the surface. Upon reaching the surface, after not seeing the sun in many years, the light is near blinding. Once the flash passes, you see a destroyed, rotten city on the horizon far ahead of you. To your left is an overgrown wooded area. To your right is a hermetically sealed box with a keypad. On the box is a faded piece of paper with the code to the box. When you open the box, similar to Fallout, you gain everything necessary to kick-start your survival, along with a pamphlet explaining your situation, and a description of the gear you are receiving (a knife or other mele weapon, a pistol or other ranged weapon, and some kind uniform type clothing/jumpsuit, food, water, a first aid kit, a backpack, and a utility belt). The pamphlet also would give you a run-down of the controls. You would be prompted to find a road and follow it. Not long after, you'd find a sign saying, "Welcome to [city/state name]" letting you know where you are. After following the road, you'd find a marking, possibly prompting a cutscene of your character installing the marking. It would be a symbol that means "furry," used by the scientists who created the first furry. The marking would also include an arrow and a mile number. The game could make you walk, or skip to the next part, but there would be more markings pointing you somewhere. Eventually, the last marking wouldn't have a mile number, but instead some symbol indicating that this is the final stretch. It would be night time, and you can see the light pollution. You find a large fortress, and notice two guards with spotlights. Eventually you get spotted, and they tell you to drop your things, which may also prompth a cutscene where you drop your things, and two other guards come out and take you into the fortress. Upon seeing the guards, you realize you found other furries. They bring you inside to a large courtyard populated by more furries. You'd be searched, evaluated, etc. And then told how long it's been since the bombs fell. Then you'd be given a tour of the place, shown the different shops, important locations, etc. The game would feature a health system similar to Project Zomboid (this game would be first/third person), or possibly less detailed for convenience, and you'd need to keep up on hunger, thirst, hygiene (possibly), and you could form friendships, partnerships, and even relationships with the citizens who live inside the [fortress name].
That's about as far as I got. It could be story driven, open world with an optional story, or just open world with quests and stuff. Obviously if someone did this, it's all subject to change. I just haven't seen many good games with furries that aren't dating Sims or nsfw games. Could be done by AAA or experienced developer(s).

More of a theory inspiration post, as I don't think I could fully explore this idea alone. I was perusing some chapters and noticed Chapter 1 Luffy was wearing an Anchor shirt and Shanks calling him one because he was bad at swimming.
In chapter 2 we see a cover page where Luffy looks like an anchor with 2 ostriches that look like the hook.
Don't Krieg also calls Luffy anchor boy because of his devil fruit, while this pointed out often early in the story we see it being less of a hinderance as time goes on we see this comparison disappear. However when Vivi is first introduced again in 103 we see Luffy take the shape of an anchor once again when he knocks out Ms.Wednesday and Mr.9.
Last significant thing that I noticed and though is sort of a reach, but still fits the overall shape is during chapter 1044 when Luffy is in his laughing pose in G5, his legs make a hook and his general body shape looks like an anchor.
We go to Joy Boy's promise to the Fishmen which was likely to take them to the outside world, and maybe even tied to the idea of Laughtale itself. What if Luffy was meant to literally become the anchor for the massive ship at a specific place, and Mariejois was physically in the way of that.
This could make sense since Noah could likely fit more people than just the Fishmen/mermen, and there is the whole theory about luffy and BB having dreams of creating their own "pirate" kingdom which I find myself aligning with as Luffy's dream, with completely different ideas of how it would work. BB wanting an actual kingdom, and Luffy maybe wanting an equitable place where his friends could be free and everything would be free. The world government surpressing the idea of a "free" run government and being an obstacle to laying anchor.
I had a whole other sidetheory about Luffy's anchor being tied to the Ankh since we just found out about Vivi being a D as well, with the whole Egyptian theme going on. The Ankh does represent the key of life or the key to the nile. However I couldn't find chapters to support this idea and the ankh besides a coincidence of shape, symbollism and name doesnt have a direct link to the anchor. So here we are with Anchorboy Luffy.

So my story is a satire of disney fairy tales; mainly because I hate what disney has done to fairy tales and star wars. It's set in a fictional secondary world like most fantasy novels, It's a comic fantasy written in the style of fairy tale. I'm following pre-Tolkien fantasy authors like Lord Dunsany, and I inspired by the princess bride and the film Tangled. It's set in a 1800s style fantasy world, for that I was sort of low key inspired by pride & prejudice.This is the story
Paul Nicholson lives in a village called Norford in the kingdom of Thedia where he has always struggled to fit in, his heart was stolen by the beautiful Claudia Redwood who kisses him at a party. Unknowingly to him it was a dare from her friends, but Claudia prefers the aristocratic Robert Albrion who intends on proposing to her in the winter. One day while walking her home; Paul makes a promise to bring home a fortune larger than the entire Albrion family who make a fortune selling cosmetic potions. Claudia makes a joke saying that if he does she'll grant him his heart's desire, Paul's lack of social skills however makes him think that she was serious.
Paul packs his bags, and his father advises him to see the oracle, a woman who can tell the future she tells him that if he travels to the north then it would bring him to his true love. Paul goes north; a place where witches rule and talking Ice wolves try to fight them, along the way he meets an elvish princess named Ithari. Ithari realizes the truth of her heritage as a princess and offers Paul a reward in riches if he takes her home from her evil adoptive witch mother who uses her healing powers to stay young forever. Elves are immortal in my setting, they also have mind reading powers, and because of this Ithari begins to see Paul's good qualities and falls in love with him as he tries to bring them home while they are pursued by the culture of Orcs that work for Ithari's supposed "mother" they are saved by a wizard called Rallion who works with the talking Ice wolves to fight against the witch-queen.
Rallion says he can take them to the Thedian border, while they travel Paul learns how to fence and shoot; while Ithari learns how to be more human. They grow closer during this time, as they leave Rallion whispering in Paul’s ear that Ithari is the true love he’s been looking for. But he says good luck with Claudia regardless and the two leave, they get to a village near Norford called Seaport. Paul and Ithari exchange a kiss, and Paul tells Ithari that he wants to go to Norford for a while to sort some things out. Ithari agrees to this; Paul tells her to go and hang out around town while he talks to some people, he talks to his friend Jeff, his father, his mother, and his sister; he sees Claudia who feels guilty about him going north.
She explained that she was joking and didn’t know that Paul actually meant it. She explained that she was already engaged to Robert, Paul said it was okay and he wishes the best for the two of them. He explained to her that he met Ithari, to which the two of them meet, and seem to get along. The witch queen appears and takes Ithari, Paul races after them to the witch queen's tower. The witch queen stabs Paul, Ithari begs her to let her heal him; she does so and agrees to go with the witch queen and live with her forever. Paul is tied up, but when the witch queen tries to use the magic to restore her youth it doesn't work. Ithari explains that because she has given her heart to Paul, her powers only work on those she loves. She loved the witch queen as her mother in the past which is why she was able to use her magic to heal. Realizing It’s useless, the witch queen lets them go and laments wasting her whole life on fitting in. To which Ithari says to Paul that she feels sorry for her. Paul and Ithari get married, and they become the king and queen of Thedia; Alanis warns Paul and Ithari that Ithari is immortal and Paul is not. He foresees a future to where Ithari is alon, Ithari remarks that she is happy to enjoy her time with Paul now. Their children age like humans and the future comes to pass. Ithari is the sole ruler of Thedia and refuses to marry after her children and grandchildren pass away of old age. She often spends time in the hall of the dead looking longingly at Paul’s grave.

Hello everyone, trying to find a certain anime from my childhood, I found it a few years back and found out they had remade it, but I cannot remember the name. Is a Comedy/Adventure with some RPG elements. So the story goes about this young boy from a village gets selected to become the HERO and he’s introduced to this girl witch that becomes his companion, now she’s not that great with her magic, but she does her best. Along the way they encounter this party of wannabe heroes that claim to be real one, but we all know MC is the hero. Towards the end when they about to fight the Demon Lord they encounter a portal that will reset the adventure, so they do that instead of fighting the DL. So i don’t know if this small anecdote will help anyone recognize which anime I’m looking for. But hopefully someone knows, thank you in advance!!!

2023.06.05 05:10 MonCappy Harry Potter & Final Fantasy X
So a few days ago I posted an idea in which the battle at the Department of Mysteries ended horribly for Harry and his friends, with Harry being the sole survivor and chasing Sirius through the Veil. From there, they would end up in a world where everyone magical they know or heard of was born 30 years later. It's still 1996 but in this world, Bellatrix Black is 15 and just finished her fourth year and is completely unlike her canon counterpart. My initial interest in the idea was how Harry would react to a teenaged Bellatrix Black who was essentially a very friendly, affectionate sweetheart of a person. She shares the face of a woman who became an utterly murderous monster, but the circumstances of her upbringing (namely a happy childhood with loving and affectionate parents) and how Harry would react to her initially and over time.
That's not what this thread is about, though, specifically. Another idea I had related to the prompt is that the magical population Sirius and Harry end up in has a lot more mages (the term I'm using to encompass wizards and witches as a whole) to the point that there is no Statute. Essentially, the world they're in superficially resembles a hybrid of the their world and the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender as the percentage of people who can actively use magic is somewhere between 10% to 15% of the magical world with squibs (Who for the purposes of this story and the mostly canon world Harry and Sirius hail from can perceive magic, enjoy most of the life span and overall health of mages, but have insufficient magic to express it externally. Some can charge runes, others who are more gifted can learn Occlumency and other internally expressed magical skills) about half again that number and numerous enough that everyone has some of the genetics that allow for the expression of magic.
Which brings me to the discussion about Harry Potter and Final Fantasy X. This isn't about a crossover between the two media franchises. Instead I had another idea, which is why this is a discussion topic. So here it is, for the sake of convenience, this world's culture is largely similar to our own and spawned its own gaming industry and its own Square who created the Final Fantasy franchise. This world's Final Fantasy X is the same in terms of its story and themes as the Final Fantasy X we know (Though the mechanics of its magic system could be very different in account of magic being, you know, real and the developers knowing this. Who knows, perhaps they consulted experts on combat magic on what spells to invent for the game.) which also includes Blitzball and how its played.
Which finally brings me to the point of this post. Would enterprising mages who played the game and love it look at the Blitzball minigame and think to themselves "yeah, I think I can make this work"? With Harry Potter magic, it could be very possible that someone, somewhere could look at Blitzball and think that they can turn it into a real sport. Thoughts? Which then brings another idea. Would someone one at Square, seeing someone attempting to make Blitzball into a real sport bring in lawyers and scream copyright infringement? Which could be a whole new can of worms to think about.
What happens when you have real life magic and mages who read fantasy and science fiction novels who decide that with their magic they think they can make fantasy or science fiction doohicky real with tweaks? For instance, imagine a magical cosplayer going to a con in full Jedi regalia complete with fully functional (though non-lethal) enchanted lightsaber? Or a talented Star Trek fangirl convincing her friend gifted in transfiguration to magically reshape her face to look like a convincing Klingon? But, yeah, what it boils down to is wondering what sort of shit really talented mages might come up with when inspired by the media they consume?
Ooh, here's a thought. In my original idea, everyone in Harry Potter canon would be born three decades later, which would mean the Marauders, Lily and Snape would all be around 20 to 21 years old when Final Fantasy X was original released. Imagine if some of them played the game when it came out. In canon, they were tremendously talented magically (even Peter who successfully became an animagus alongside James and Sirius) and likely quite ambitious. If this version of their world has no blood war going on, they would likely direct their talents to pursuits having nothing to do with war. I could imagine them being inspired to try to make Blitzball real (particularly James and Sirius who played Quidditch for Gryffindor). Could make for an interesting alternate universe vignette at least.

I'll keep her name out of this, but an "artist" stole a painting from Sylvia Solovyeva, specifically Resistance, and is selling the copy for a very high price, and needless to say the quality of the copy was completely undeserving of the price she put it up for.
I called her out on it and told her to credit the original artist, and she DMed me telling me I was being extremely rude and had no right to speak.
So what really shocked me was when I told her she shouldn't be selling copyrighted material that isn't hers, she told me this, word for word
"No, actually, this is a freedom I have and there's no limitations that don't allow me to do this, and you should've never commented on my painting like this, you're not allowed to do so at all. And it's fine too, if someone asks I'll tell them that I copied it from Pinterest, and everyone else does it too so it's okay. You're the one who's overreacting, dear, bottom line, this whole thing is up to me"
And I really was shocked, like, ChatGPT couldn't have come up with a more shameless response. I decided I'd check her account expecting to see that she's a hobbyist but no, she's from a prestigious art university and has attended several art galleries.
I pointed that out to her and asked how she's so involved but still doesn't know what copyright (Or respect for other artist's work for that matter) is (Quick note, the art community here is pretty tiny, so everyone knows one another by at most one mutual connection).
She insisted it was fine, so I told her that I literally work in the art industry as well, so I'm not so clueless that she should try to play stupid. She said "Oh you work in art? I've met several artists greater than you are" so I told her that me alongside said greater artists never steal ideas and have respect for other's work, and that she on the other hand can't grasp that concept
She insisted it was fine the entire time and that it was freedom of expression, mind you this was after calling me crazy, insane, calling me mentally ill and telling me to go check myself into an asylum.
I'm pretty speechless at her shamelessness to be completely honest, most art thieves defend their stolen things with their life and claim it as their own original work, but not only did she admit to copying it, she insisted she has all the freedom to do so and that nothing could stop her, the word Copyright didn't seem to go through her head.
I blocked her eventually and let the artist know her work was being stolen, I wouldn't have told her had she been a hobbyist or a teen selling it for cheap, but she's, like, seriously involved and selling it for a ridiculously high price that's so above the quality that I thought she must be an amateur who's only doing it for fun.

I have a 130k word manuscript I've been working on for the better part of a year. (I know it's very long, it will be cut down in editing.)
Problem is, I know it's not very marketable. The main problem is that my original drafting included superpowers and superheroes, which I know is not really a thing in genre fiction. I'm certain it's a good story, and I have a lot of diehard fans, but I don't know how to go about querying and publishing.
I've toyed with a lot of concepts for changing it; turning it into political intrigue, organized crime, war, the like, because the main conflict is between the two factions of heroes and villains which could be changed to political parties or feuding nations... but I'm really in love with my original concept and a lot of things would have to change to increase marketability.
I've been so stuck on this I've been putting off finishing up editing and polishing for so long. I've considered the self-pub route but I am completely lost in the world of marketing, and as an eighteen-year-old full-time college student, I'm lacking quite substantially in experience in the field...
I have one novel coming out in July with a small indie publisher, so I'm not completely incompetent. I'm just lost and feeling so stuck.
Do I go all in with the superpowers and try to dig out a niche a la Marissa Meyer, or buckle down and alter my plot to fit market standards? I'm unsure how to go about this.
