| I tried hopping on apex tonight to play a few ranked games with some friends just to find out I was banned, PERMANENTLY, for the text in the photo. I find it absolutely ridiculous that making a joke of the current seasons play style gets me perma banned. Nothing I said had led to a reasonable ban. Hi. Transfer application for the 2023-2024 academic term is around the corner. I am interested to apply to two programs under the College of Social Sciences, such as Anthropology and Linguistics, at UP Diliman. As much as I would like to prepare myself for the upcoming qualitative and quantitative assessments, I am not quite familiar with the structure and complexity of the examinations offered by the two programs aforementioned. Can someone here give me some tips or guides on how to ace the essay examination in Anthropology and the aptitude test in Linguistics? You can inform me here of your interest, so I can message you privately. All responses will be appreciated.

2023.05.29 05:05 angelknight29 Sometimes a book shapes you, and you don't realize it.
Going Postal has been my one of my absolute favorite book, Discworld series and of all time. It has been a long time since I read it, and I've been listening to every audio book from Colour of Magic to Hat Full of Sky. Since I started this journey, I've been anticipating Going Postal most of all.
When we got to the initial meeting between Lord Vetinari and Reacher Gilt, it dawned on me throughout their exchange that this book has have shaped my views about corporations and private enterprises.
It especially hit me when Reacher Gilt described the Postal Service as a "Lumbering, smug, overstaffed, overweight monster of a place? It barely earned it's keep! It was the very essence and exemplar of public enterprise!"
This is the same rhetoric that was fed to us by people who wanted small government and "free" market. Here in the States at least, you heard so much complaints about the post office losing money, despite the fact it was a municipal service. I mean, how would you feel if we were told firefighters weren't generating enough profit?
I understand that if a public utility has become ineffective, we need to change and improve things. but i scoff anytime it is suggested that a private business, whos top priority is making money above all else, offers a supposed better service.
Private prisons for example, which makes money by housing inmates, can only lead to one end: find a way to imprison people, and keep them there. And, as Vetinari reminds you thoughout that aformentioned meeting, it is all legal.
I admit that in my early 20's I bought into many of these idea of freedom, too much government bloat, and trusting the market. In the mid aughts, I started to read Discworld. In my 30's my views started to change. Nearly 40, I feel radicalized.
Thank you Mr. Pratchett, for opening my eyes. Your writing made me laugh, but my subconcious understood the message. GNU Terry Pratchett, inperpetuity thoughout the Disc.

2023.05.29 05:04 gamerboybsha How Clannad made me rethink my life
I came across Clannad (first season) for the first time somewhere in the first half of 2020 on Netflix. I remember watching like two or three episodes and thinking: “man, this is dull.” I’ve stopped watching it and pretty much forgot about it for a short while. That was until I came across a scene from episode 16 of Clannad After Story on YouTube (we all know what scene I’m talking about). Now even though I have seen just a few episodes of the first season and thus, of course, knew absolutely nothing about the plot, but that was enough for me to at least recognize the characters. Seeing that clip made me think something like: “Wait, this is what happens later in that ‘boring’ show?! What in the world happened that led to that?!” Now I know that this was a HUGE spoiler, but to me that was important because it gave me the sudden huge strive to watch the show entirely. And I did, in just two days. And oh man was that an experience! I have come to actually like and appreciate this anime.
Now what exactly was my train of thought? I am honestly still trying to stock everything up in the right order, but here’s a few fragments of what I’ve been thinking about.
Not only did this show cause me to have a serious emotional reaction, but it also caused me to have an inner crisis. I pretty much started rethinking everything, from physical to spiritual. The biggest question that I have had could be summarized as: “Why do terrible things happen to people who seem good?” What happened to Tomoya, or pretty much the entire Okazaki/Furukawa families is just terrifying. These characters are nothing but simple and humble people who don’t spend their lives reaching for the stars. Their only wish was to be together as a little happy family, which is natural, good, and is in no way selfish. They don’t seem to be like people who would deserve to have such terrible things happen to them. Without going into detail, I’ll dare say that as much as I am afraid to admit it, I think that I am a person who deserves bad things to happen to. I would somewhat understand that, but why did these people have to go through such horrors?! Is that just? Now I know that this anime is nothing more than just a cartoon/game/manga with fictional characters which are not even based on real life events (at least I hope they are not). But even so, this is technically a slice of life story after all, and situations like the ones described in Clannad seem somewhat realistic, in fact, I’m pretty sure that such suffering in real life does happen, has happened, and will continue to happen. Is it fair for such tragedies of life and more to happen to people who already have difficult lives? Prove to me that such people do not exist. These type of thoughts made me look at this world in a slightly more melancholic light, which made think more deeply about how and why to live on a planet that is pretty much drenched in human tears, sweat, and blood.
Also, situations like these are depicted in other movies and literature on more than one occasion. For example: A Christmas Carol, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, War and Peace, the Bible (Genesis 35:16-22), just to name a few. Speaking of the Bible, honestly, Tomoya’s story more or less reminds me of the story of Job, the main character in the Book of Job, which, to those who don’t know, is a biblical text in the Old Testament. Seriously, try this: after watching Clannad After Story, try reading the Book of Job, or at least it’s third chapter, and while listening to Snowfield. I have read this book for the first time about one and a half months after watching Clannad, and it turned out to be one of the most amazing reading experience I’ve had at the time. Looking at these things from a religious perspective made me question whether God is just or not, basically, the Problem of Theodicy.
To cut it short, all this, plus some other things, have caused me to review my life and views. I am still in the process of reviewing them. This anime has opened up more similar anime shows to me. Also, I wrote an application essay to one of the best colleges in the city where I live, the topic of which was my experience of watching this show, and have got accepted (though I later dropped out of it, LOL). Anyway, quoting the show: “It’s been a while since I have seen a performance with so much impact.”
If you have made it this far, you have my outmost gratitude. Please share your own experiences of watching this show.

2023.05.29 05:04 PootisMaster24 [M4F] Looking for literate fandom partners! Let's make a beautiful story
Hello! If you've manage to stumble your way into this post, hopefully today will be our lucky day. I am 21 and looking for someone around my age, though I'm not too strict about it, at least on the older side, please be 18 at least. I'm looking to roleplay in a couple fandoms. Now, first off I must say I only roleplay canon characters. OCs have never quite to my liking as I find it so much more fun and interesting to play the characters that have made us fall in love with these franchises.
I roleplay through discord but am open to any other sites if you prefer them. I ask that you are literate. I like to be detailed, really paint a picture of a scene or delve deep into what our characters are thinking. I'm not asking for novella length posts (though I would LOVE if we could do that) but I do ask that you put passion into the writing, it is what makes this magical!
I give a great deal of importance to character development. I love to delve deep into what makes a character who they are, their motivation, their outlook on life, and the relationships they form with the people around them! There are a few exceptions, but most of the time romance always finds itself at the center or at least near the center of most of the stories I roleplay. I love slow burns, seeing the relationship between two characters evolve as they grow closer. Some of my other favorites tropes when writing is enemies to lovers and found family. I also love playing an ensemble cast! I love paying attention to side characters as much as main characters to the point where everyone feels like a rich character!
As for the story and plot itself, let's come up with something together! I am down to play any kind of storyline. Something original, AUs where our characters are together in a famous storyline of their own maybe? Anything goes!
Now, for OOC. I absolutely love chatting with my partners. This is a hobby! Let's enjoy it together! Talk about it, be friends! I love sharing any kind of art that inspires me or reminds me of our story, I'm a huge fan of music and will share songs that I think represent our characters. Let's not just be partners but friends as well!
Now, as for the actual fandoms here they are along with the characters I would like to play:
Star Wars: This one is perhaps the one I am craving the most. I would absolutely love to do a Han and Leia roleplay. Maybe an AU where they managed to all escape cloud city and are now being chased by the empire and Jabba, or right after return of the jedi as they rebuild the republic. I would love to focus on their early romance, their dynamic was always the best part of the movies and I wanna fully explore it. Now while this pairing is the main one I would like to do, there are a lot of other stories I'd like to explore! Hit me up and let me know what pairings you'd like to do and I'm sure we can work it out.
DC: This one has a lot of potential for really complex relationships I feel. I would love to do something like Batman and Catwoman or something more strange like Nightwing and Harley, I'm super open for any ideas you might have! Now I will say my knowledge of DC mostly extends to batman and a little of the teen titans, anything outside we can make work but it might be harder for me.
One Piece: While this is one of my favorite series of all time, I've always felt like the one thing it's been really missing since the early days is strong character development and relationships. I would love to explore any pairings that rise amongst the straw hats. My particular favorites are Usopp and Nami, Robin and Franky, Luffy and Nami, and one that I particularly would love to do is an AU where Vivi did end up going with them. I'd love to explore a romance with Luffy. Of course for a series like this we really have to humanize the characters more than they are originally, like Luffy would not be as unrealistically clueless as he is, or Nami wouldn't be as compulsively obsessed with money as she regularly is. Something a little more nuanced that allows us to develop our characters. But I think that would be a lot of fun!
If you are still here I thank you! And if you're interested send me a message! And please don't make it a simple "Hey wanna rp?" I most likely won't respond to messages like that. Let me know some of your ideas! What characters you'd like to play. Anything that's on your mind!

2023.05.29 05:04 EugeRomani 🇲🇩 Moldova Appreciation Post 🇲🇩
| The title says it all. I feel like Moldova is objectively the best country in Eurovision if you consider the history of the contest and the thought process behind it (United by Music much?). Eurovision was created to bring together Europe after the misery of World War I & II and the instability in the continent afterward. The contest is for countries to send music that reaaapresents their nation, people, culture, language, etc. In recent years, more countries are embracing ethnic and cultural influences instead of sending English pop songs. ESC is about music, having fun, and celebrating diversity (2014 lol). That being said, looking back on what Moldova has sent, I feel they have done an absolutely fantastic job bringing the spirit of Eurovision in many of their performances. This year Pasha Parfeni and his song did a great job mixing europop and traditional music. Personally, I ranked Moldova in the top 3. Last year as well, Moldova sent an Amazing entry. Trenuletul was a hit with the public and was both fun and outside of the box. In 2013, they also sent a song in their national language and both 2005 and 2009 featured both Romanian and English lyrics. Moldova 2009, 2012, 2022, and 2023 all showcase Moldovan culture. From their first entry in 2005 to now, only 2020/21 and 2016 stick out as 'pop songs.' Each entry is something that differs from the average Eurovision pop song, most aren't in the pop genre. Many performances feature traditional clothing, dances, or artistry. And of course, Moldova excels at sending, arguably, some of the most meme-level entries each year. Zdob şi Zdub in 2005, 2011, and 2022 gave us fun songs meant to be enjoyed. The legendary SunStroke Project, in 2010 and 2017, no words needed. Nelly Ciobanu and her song 'Hora din Moldova' is energetic and memorable. Aliona Moon was a vocal master. Each year, Moldova is always a performance to look forward to and enjoy. It seems to me like Moldova isn't considered with winning or even reaching the top 10, they're focused on making an enjoyable performance that people will remember. Finally, Moldova gave us the best gift possible: Epic Sax Guy. He is legendary. No one outside of ABBA or Celine Dion even approaches the level of fame that epic sax guy has. I love watching Moldova in Eurovision and I hope they'll continue to participate for many years to come. So Moldova, thanks for being one of the best countries in Eurovision. No one compares to the diversity of entries, memes, and masterpieces you've given us. I saw a young woman about my age post something similar about a week ago, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
I'm a single 22-year-old male recent college graduate, from Southern Colorado. I'm nice and outgoing, like to have fun, and want to travel as much as possible. I cycle and hike as much as I can between work, going to shows, and spending time with family.
Absolute bookworm, and like a small boy obsessed with dinosaurs, I'm currently in an atomic bomb history phase. Yes it doesn't make a lot of sense, yes I will bring it up, and yes I did drag my family to the atomic bomb museum in Las Vegas.
Bring, me, two Pina Coladas, one for each hand (red grenadine is perfect too, but sadly the Dead doesn't have a catchy song about Pina Coladas like Garth Brooks does).
Regarding the Dead, I love the late 70's and early 80's the most. I think right now 4/20/84 has to be one of my favorite shows of all time, followed by 7/18/90.
Send me a message and let's see if we click!
(I've never written one of these before so apologies if it comes off clunky and odd).

2023.05.29 05:04 CaptainKursk Why Aston Martin should consider replacing Stroll next season
To say that nobody expected Aston Martin to be as successful as they have this season is perhaps the understatement of the century: in the span of 6 months, the AMR23 has gone from being 6th to 2nd, only bested by the mechanical monster that is the Red Bull RB19. Flying past Alpine & McLaren to completely leapfrog the midfield and 2 of the traditional "top 3" teams in Ferrari and Mercedes has been an absolutely phenomenal sight to behold, spearheaded by the indomitable Fernando Alonso. Almost 42 years old, the Spaniard's ability to defy the very laws of time and ageing is truly astounding to witness, and he continues to be the same elite-level racing driver that he was the last time he won a Grand Prix 10 years ago now. As a result, Aston Martin sit 2nd in the Constructors standings and by all accounts look to be the best team on the grid not named 'Red Bull'.
That is, except in one respect: driver lineup. In 6 races so far, Fernando has recorded 5 podiums - four 3rd places and one 2nd place. By contrast, Lance Stroll's best result is Fernando's worst (a 4th place in Australia), with the remainder being 6th, 7th, 12th and 2 DNFs. Not even halfway through the season, and Alonso's points tally is nearly triple that of Lance's -
93 to 27 - and a
6-0 qualifying record in favour of the Spaniard adds further insult to injury. By every metric, it would be almost patronisingly obvious to state that Aston Martin's success this season is mostly, if not wholly, down to Alonso.
Lance Stroll is a perfectly capable racing driver. Such a statement is indisputable given the Canadian has amassed 221 championship points and 3 podium finishes at the age of just 24 in machinery that until this season has been anything but field-leading in quality. One could argue that as of now, the Aston Martin driver lineup is the perfect blend of experience and youth, and the results thus far would initially appear to vindicate the team composition. But the disparity in driver performance, race finishes and points tallies are proof positive of a problem at Aston Martin - one that is not cause for immediate concern, but nevertheless continues to germinate and grow with each race weekend.
Aston Martin has achieved the position of the 2nd best team so far this season, but the lead they hold is a narrow one - just a single point seperates them from Mercedes in 3rd, and though Ferrari trail in 4th by 30 points, all it takes is one bad race weekend and a freak double-DNF for that gap to vanish. Alonso's contributions to the team is indisputable, but Lance's may soon be called into question. Ironically, I raised this very point months ago before the season began in a post analysing whether McLaren, Alpine or Aston had the best chance of winning the midfield battle:
"In many ways Lance Stroll is the embodiment of AM ever since the Force India days - good enough to be clear of the backmarkers, and yet not really good enough to take that next step forward to ascend to the next level. He may well be the progeny of the team's owner and Commander in Chief but after finishing 7th in the championship for 2 seasons running now and 13th & 15th placed Drivers Championship finshes, if Lance doesn't make the jump needed to help push Aston forwards, it might well be time to ask the question of whether Papa Stroll makes an extremely hard call and replaces his son with a better driver. It might be a non-starter given the family connection, but if Aston really are serious about forward progression into the top of the grid, they cannot afford a 'Ricciardo-McLaren problem' whereby one underperforming half of their driver lineup hamstrings their efforts." The fact of the matter is that if Aston are serious about pushing for the top spots in F1, they cannot afford to continue with Lance unless the Canadian begins significantly improving. He's a good driver, but not a
great one who can help with championship pushes the way Perez and Bottas did for Red Bull and Mercedes in seasons past. Which brings us to the question of who could take the seat at Silverstone:
One name that immediately jumps out is Lando Norris. Ever since the heady days of 2021, the Brit has been stuck in something of a rut in a McLaren team that has failed to deliver machinery worthy of the driving ability that Norris has demonstrated time and time again. Should Aston Martin be able to maintain their newfound position as penultimate Constructor and McLaren continue to stagnate in midtable mediocrity going forward, the idea of Lando swapping the Papaya Orange of Woking for the British Racing Green of Silverstone is a
very exciting proposition indeed. Similarly, Charles Leclerc could be a contender for the seat should the Monegasque finally reach his wits end with the organisational and strategy maelstrom of ineptitude that has been Ferrari for some time now.
What do you think? Should Stroll Sr. decide to persevere with Stroll Jr.? Or might it soon be time to begin window shopping?

Not for distribution or even portfolio of course, I’m thinking for personal reference later when you need to plan/program without talent.
Been considering getting a GoPro, but I don’t know much about them and whether that’s actually helpful for a lighting designer vs other camera options.

2023.05.29 05:02 Pleasant_Egg01973 My cousin wants me to perform in a talent show with her
My (20M) cousin (12F) signed up to perform in a talent show next Friday for her school and is going to do the dance from k-pop song “Ditto” by NewJeans. She has severe anxiety but my aunt convinced her that she should do it to break out of her shell. My uncle agreed to perform with her but on Wednesday he tore his meniscus at work and can’t perform. My aunt would perform with her but she is 26 weeks pregnant so she’s out of the question. My cousin was considering dropping out of the show but my aunt said she would find someone to perform with her.
I came home from college yesterday and my parents gathered all my family members to welcome me back home and my aunt and cousin were there. Later in the night my aunt asked me if I was familiar with k-pop and I said my girlfriend is obsessed with it so I know a couple of songs. She asked me if I have listened to Ditto before and I said yes and she asked if I would be comfortable doing the dance with my cousin for the talent show. I know the song and have seen parts of the dance but I am not a dancer. I took beginner dance my senior year of high school and that’s it. I told my aunt I would get back to her on Monday. I asked her why one of her friends aren’t dancing with her and she said her best friend is performing a song by herself and her two other close friends are going out of town next weekend. My sister (18F) would say yes but she doesn’t return from college for two more weeks.
I’ll most likely say yes but doing a dance with my 12 year old cousin in front of a bunch of middle schoolers is way different than dancing on stage with 20 people in front of adults. I don’t mind performing in front of a crowd. I was in a play in high school and don’t remember having stage fright. I’m in good shape and I have until Saturday to learn the dance and I should be able to do with enough practice. Doing this would greatly help my cousin grow out of her shyness. If she talks to someone she doesn’t know she completely shuts down so this would be good for her to grow as a person.

2023.05.29 05:02 ohnookthis Where's my Clone Wars AU where Ahsoka had a bit more time before she was caught removing Rex's chip, and they retake the ship, removing all the clones' control chips, and launch a guerrilla warfare campaign against the Empire to capture clones?
I want to see this so bad. Imagine they don't get caught, and instead are able to start kidnapping clones to remove their chips one by one. As they remove more chips their forces grow, and so does their capacity to remove control chips as they recruit more clones to their side.
Soon they've taken over the ship - and now Ahsoka and Rex are on a mission to retake the entire Grand Army of the Republic. Acting like they're just another ship in the Empire at first to sneak into other ships and bases. Converting huge portions of their ships to medical facilities for removing control chips. Every clone they take from the Empire means a +2 in their number advantage. They could absolutely change everything.
I think about this scenario a lot.

2023.05.29 05:01 needdctherapist Was this a tantrum?
Hello, our 19 month old toddler has been an absolute fantastic sleeper. Has slept through the night since 7 months. We have been very good about keeping her on a schedule. Even when taking her on plenty of trips, she sleeps incredibly well and we are good at keeping her in a schedule in those situations. Naps and all that. This weekend we took her to Mexico for a quick beach vacation with another couple and we really struggled to keep her sleeping right. She wouldn't nap today (except for absolutely passing out for 45 minutes in my wife's arms as we walked around the resort after dinner. We just tried to put her down to sleep for her bedtime and once we put her in her sleep sack, she started absolutely losing her freaking mind. I was terrified. I mean, flailing arms, smacking us, screaming uncontrollably and jerking her body to the point my wife almost dropped her, she bit my wife so hard it made her scream, I mean really behaving like the girl from the Exorcist. She has never behaved even close to this. We finally just got her to calm down with a miss Rachel video (we RARELY show her screens). She seems calm now in my wife's arms watching a bedtime video from her, but I'm worried she's going to lose it when we turn it off. Is this what a tantrum is? Any suggestions? Im sure it has to do with being over tired, but what to do? Any thoughts, pats on the back, good vibes would be appreciated. We want our little one to be safe and happy. Thanks in advance!
