2023.05.30 00:25 Alireza20072003 The Future of Dogecoin Without Elon Musk as Twitter CEO
On December 19, the social media ecosystem paused as Elon Musk pondered his future as the Twitter CEO. His potential exit, supported by 57.5% of polled users, has sent ripples through the cyber corridors, generating curiosity and concern, especially about the price action of Dogecoin without Elon Musk as Twitter CEO.
Musk’s prospective resignation from Twitter’s executive suite doesn’t mean he will completely disengage from the platform.
Even without being part of day-to-day operations, his influence as the owner of Twitter still holds considerable sway. Hence, Dogecoin, the favorite meme token featuring prominently in Musk’s tweets, might persist in the platform’s discourse.
However, it’s crucial to underscore that Musk has never explicitly pledged to fuse Dogecoin with Twitter. His role as CEO saw Dogecoin’s price skyrocket by 150%, yet this surge was mostly speculative, lacking solid backing for real-world development or implementation.

2023.05.30 00:05 mooplechoople Scrolling in any program is a nightmare
I wanted to give daily driving Linux an honest try and set up dual booting with Windows 11 and Manjaro/KDE Plasma. I like a lot of the features but the lack of smooth scrolling is killing me. Firefox seems to be the only program that tries to implement it but it's a choppy mess. I tried to get used to it and it honestly gave me a headache just browsing Youtube. Moving the browser window around at all (which I do a lot between monitors) makes it even worse for a few seconds. This seems to be an incredibly common problem and there are a thousand different fixes online, but none of the ones I've tried have made it even close to Windows. I wanted to make sure I wasn't insane so I booted back up into Windows and just scrolled up and down Youtube again feeling like I unshackled the weight of a thousand generations.
From what I understand from frantic google searches smooth scrolling just isn't a thing most Linux programs have. Most apps like Steam seem to not even attempt to do it. Chromium apps like Discord try to do it and it ends up making scrolling ungodly slow somehow. (which has apparently been an issue for over a decade and was fixed like 3 months ago but Discord hasnt updated so it doesnt matter how do you people live like this).
I can deal with every other application but I absolutely need it for Firefox. Is there any way to get this working like Windows? I'm willing to try different distros/desktops/whatever I need to do. It's honestly unusable for me as is and I don't think Linux has anything that would convince me to learn to deal with it.

2023.05.29 23:53 dubiousadvocate First Light pending shutdown
An intelligent approach is give us a place to spill over to first. Your system is intended to be a sink with no respect to the customers.
I've watched all NW videos to date. It appears storage in First Light will be shutdown as well and any items pushed out, any houses refunded. Oh boy won't my crafter and PvE character be surprised. That's my main playstyle. Your latest video says this is permanent. But if we wait long enough there will be a new place. Great comfort it's not a priority. Sheesh.
I have a gear out system that Gear Seats only partially helped. I have a storage system because inventory remains location specific and the filters remain shit.
As long as I assumed a single gear out system I'm good. Heh. Hello mutations.
Wait hold on.
AGS NW assured us that it's now possible that multiple gear outs are viable for PvE dungeons. I guess two or so months ago? Old news?
Well. First Light is one of those places I've designated for Enemy/Mutation specific places to cache my stuff. It's pretty obvious that anyone who does PvE and crafting is going to have overlap.
Heaven forbid they also have PvP specific storage locations.
So my one spill over location is now that place that FL once provided. I no longer have a spill over location. Sheesh. WTF?! No place new to go?
AGS can you please adopt a cadence that allows folks to adapt. Can you give us an easy way to spread character inventory with no penalty. Frankly I'd accept any cadence at all with an easy way to adapt.
By the way the most recent video where one of your SMEs didn't even bother to show up (loved the way you dunked on her - not at all toxic, telling us something?) and the other pretended to stomp off... absolute chef's kiss. I assume that was a message not to buy more tokens.
I've spent roughly $200 over base game price on NW, I spent roughly 9.5k on Ultima Online over 20 years, 1.5k on EvE Online over three years, another 3.5k on Star Trek Online over twelve years. Holding off on future NW. You folks really do not seem to understand a non-punishing cadence.
I'm going to play further but no dime until much later. I assume this is intentionally to tank revenue.
An intelligent approach is give us a place to spill over to first. Your system is intended to be a sink with no respect to the players.
I actually started checking into UO and EQ "free" servers. NW is tiring. Reduced to looking at a generation old technology. Please, do it again, mock your team player who had the sense enough not to show up to this CF/DIAF latest video. And whatever with the guy who walked the stage, oh it is pretend?!, to do another.
You're mocking us. Knock it off.
EDIT: Mods this is hardly a price check post. Please update your autobot.

2023.05.29 23:49 AlchemyJug Roll20 is causing my audio to break
I've had this problem for a few months and have exhausted every possible fix I can find. While using VTTs (mainly roll20), sometimes while I move a token, change pages, or tab to a different tab, my audio will make a pop noise and become extremely low quality. Sometimes in addition, my microphone will break and people in discord hear what they describe as "The Wails of the Damned" or "Souls of children screaming in pain" whenever I try to speak.
I have tried using different browsers, clearing the caches, updating every driver I can find, using dark or light mode, having 0 other programs open, changing the process priority on my CPU, turning on and off hardware acceleration, and every other setting change or "Fix" I've seen online.
The problem CAN be fixed temporarily by turning Windows Spatial Sound on then back off. But that only lasts until it happens again, which seems to be completely at random. I've troubleshooted and diagnosed as much as I can but need help to see if anyone has any ideas to help permanently fix this. One thing to add is I have 32gb of ram and while moving a token repeatedly, Roll20 alone takes up at least 60% of my memory.
Pls help, it's really annoying

2023.05.29 23:43 dreamingofislay Feis Ile Caol Ila Day Recap (5/29)
| Sequel to my recaps for days one and two. It's been a wonderful Feis so far, and we feel lucky and grateful to be able to return after a five-year hiatus. Day Three, Monday, is Caol Ila Open Day on island's eastern coast. Here are our impressions and advice, let me know if you guys find this helpful and interesting! https://preview.redd.it/8s4tfwcqbu2b1.jpg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9300b924a9c0d60e5e72038ac6a2b8556407779 - This year is the first year in a while that the open day has returned to the distillery after a multi-year renovation. The new visitor center is much bigger, sleeker, and glossier than older examples like Lagavulin's spartan bottle shop. Caol Ila's center is a Disney World-esque tribute to all things Diageo, selling many of their major single malts and special annual releases, along with a big array of Johnnie Walker products.
- Unsurprisingly, Caol Ila day is a lot like Lagavulin day. Great, well-organized team. On arrival, they hand out a welcome packet with a pin, map, and two dram tokens per person, and everyone can choose between two whiskies for those free pours. Caol Ila offered the Distillers Edition and Moch.
- Like at Lagavulin, the dram-token system is only lightly enforced. We came in and got two packets, then went to the main bar, and they handed me two more packets because I was holding the first two under the bar (not intentionally, I swear!). By 4 pm, team members were passing out more drams, no tokens exchanged, so the famous generosity of festival week is still here, just a little more under wraps.
- ASOIAF/Game of Thrones fans may appreciate this reference: Caol Ila is the Pyke of Islay distilleries. Not only is it on the coast, it's on a verdant rocky cliffside, so you must take a winding wooden walkway to enter it. Caol Ila is also the most "vertical," for lack of a better word. The gift shop's on Level 3, and the main courtyard was on Level 0. On each level, there are different experience rooms, including a mini-history museum on Level 2.
- In that history museum, we enjoyed a wonderful experience with Jo and Peter (a Diageo historian and a blending team member, respectively). It was strange; almost every other major event sold out very quickly, but this one was still available a week before we arrived, for a relatively reasonable 45 pounds/person. When we got there, only one other couple had booked it, and all of us had a great time chatting. Jo and Peter were fun company and fonts of whisky knowledge. And the four whiskies ... quite something. As a bonus, Jo and Peter gave us a to-go sample of a whisky they custom-created for the Lagavulin Malt Mill experience (the idea was to recreate the early 1900s whisky made at Lagavulin for blending). Such a kind gesture.
- If you ever find yourself on Islay do yourself a favor and go to the Ballygrant Inn. Heck, go twice. It may be the best whisky bar on an island chock full of amazing watering holes. The selection feels infinite, and the prices are eye-poppingly reasonable. As a comparison, we had Laphroaig's 2009 and 2010 Cairdeas bottles for 8.50 pounds per pour, whereas they were 25-30 pounds per pour at a bar in Bowmore. And if you want to try rare bottles or festival bottles without the madness of Feis week, this is your spot. They have many Feis Ile expressions from the last 5-10 years.
- Hang out at a bar long enough, and you realize some people are not here to play. Chatted with one group that was ordering powerhouse dram after powerhouse dram - Ardbeg Single Casks, 20-plus year old Bowmores and Bunnahabhains, etc. - like there was no tomorrow. One gentleman let me taste a sip of an Ardbeg single cask (70 or so pound pour). Yeah, it was pretty good.
- SMWS (Scotch Malt Whisky Society) does great events throughout the week, and you don't have to be a member to attend or buy their bottles, unlike the rest of the year. They had a booth outside of Ballygrant today, and we got to try 5-6 expressions and ended up buying two festival bottles: a 14-year-old Macallan beauty bottled for Spirit of Speyside and a 14-year-old Caol Ila in honor of their open day, which was better (just IMO) than the official festival bottling and about half the price.
- The vindaloo curry at Indian Tandoori/Taj Mahal in Bowmore is really spicy. Perfect hearty meal for resetting the system after a long day.
- Fauna spotting: there are distinctive black and white seabirds with red feet all over the island, named black guillemots, but known at the distillery as "Caol Ila penguins." We also saw a swan couple that we've now spotted at Lagavulin, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, and across the bay by Jura. Not sure if they're the same single pair of swans, but it feels like they're following us around!
We powered through quite a few drams today (lots of small sample pours, or driver's dram bottles to take home): Caol Ila Moch - the easy entry ramp into peated single malts, but not going to be any seasoned fan's favorite. Caol Ila Distillers Edition - Weird but super-fun scent today: chinkiang vinegar. My fellow Chinese folk will know what I'm talking about. Great with dumplings when blended with soy sauce. Maybe Caol Ila DE is a good substitute? Caol Ila Distillery Exclusive - 2018 bottling with a red-wine finish. Nose is so different than other Caol Ilas, pure vanilla and coconut, but with the spice and tannins of a red-wine finish in the late palate. Caol Ila Four Corners of Scotland, 14 y.o. - 2022 bottling that was made to emphasize the distillery's character. Core profile: ashy petrols and iodine on the nose, but a sweet, lemon/citrus palate, and a floral/smoke finish. Caol Ila Feis Ile 2023, 13 y.o. - This year's festival bottling is a marriage of 10 first-fill PX and oloroso sherry casks. Was a surprising dram because most first-fill whiskies are very intensely sherried, at the cost of some balance. For this one, the distillery character won out and there might have been too little sherry influence. Caol Ila 1996, 26 y.o. single cask - Not for sale, just for tastings like this one. This ruddy dram was so rich and unctuous it nosed like a bourbon, but the taste was all rich, old, sherry-aged, sweet-and-peat Islay goodness. An absolute stunner. My wife said cuatro leches due to the high caramel and brown sugar; I also got some pineapple juice on the finish. SMWS 53.446, "Blowtorched Mexican Mousse," 14 y.o. - This Caol Ila is more of the classic sherry-and-peat combo, really potent and meaty, like barbecue ribs slathered with some sweet Kansas City-style sauce. Bottled for this year's Feis. SMWS G16 Rare Release, "Dark n'Stormy Creme Brulee," 6 y.o. - This one-off whisky was a collab with Glasgow Distillery to make a Scottish bourbon-style whisky. Using a mashbill of 51+% corn, rye, and barley (sounds like bourbon, yeah?), aged in new American oak casks (bourbon, right?), this one tastes like ... a pretty delicious rye whisky to me, and a high-rye bourbon to my wife. Fascinating dram. SMWS 24 Rare Release, "Massive Oak Extraction," 14 y.o. - Single cask, cask-strength Macallan. Burnt matchsticks nose (a common note from sherry aging), followed by a tour-de-force palate of dark, sugary fruits and baking spices. A much more muscular Macallan than any of their own bottlings. SMWS 3 Rare Release, "The Finesse of a Fragrant Furnace," 18 y.o. - A strange Bowmore, so gentle and light and sweet that it read more like a Highland whisky to us. But maybe that's what happens when you're on your 4th cask strength whisky after leaving a 4-cask-strength-whisky tasting ... SMWS 53 Rare Release, "Honeysuckle Petrichor," 14 y.o. - Another Caol Ila, which had some similar notes to the previous one, but with an ashier and "dirtier"/farmier palate. Petrichor, for sure. Depends if you want more of that rough, earthy peat, but you can't go wrong either way. Laphroaig 2009 Cairdeas 12 y.o. - This showcases a fresh-cut fruit and light side to Laphroaig that I rarely see outside of 20-year-old-plus bottlings. Not at all the norm, but that's why I love the Cairdeas series. Laphroaig 2010 Cairdeas Master Edition - In contrast to 2009, 2010 was straight down the fairway. Ashy, smoky, medicinal, maritime, and warming. I wish I could compare this side by side with the 2015 200th Anniversary or with 2022's Warehouse 1. It sort of falls between those two bottlings. With this dram, I've made it through the entire Cairdeas lineup! Octomore 08.2 - Well, it's an Octomore, what is there to say? Wave after wave of peat, balanced out by salinity and an intense, tinned-fruit sweetness. After 15 minutes, got some chocolate wafer cookies on the nose. Ardbeg Galileo - This feels like a classic Ardbeg from a bygone golden age. I wish the juice still tasted like this. It doesn't have any of the mustiness or dirtiness of some peated whiskies; it's fruity, mellow, and citric, like a barbecued fruit skewer. Not your normal 'Beg, not sure if they lowered the peat content here. submitted by dreamingofislay to Scotch [link] [comments] |

2023.05.29 23:13 CB_scorpio Project Dialogue: Viktor Vostrikov CO- Founder JewelSwap by @EntityFinance
| Get an exclusive look inside @JewelSwapX!🕵️♂️ We sat down with their Co-Founder last Wednesday and delved into #NFTs, their modules, and plans for the future! Project Dialogue: Viktor Vostrikov CO- Founder JewelSwap Here are the top 3 key takeaways from our conversation🧵 Q: Can you talk about the process JewelSwap goes through to ensure the security of its smart contracts? Since there isn't any audits mentioned on the JewelSwap Website or Docs section. A: A: Our approach to securing smart contracts on JewelSwap is deliberate and transparent. The initial strategy was to hold off on auditing until we had completed a substantial portion of the code. While the cost of audits is significant, that wasn't our primary reason for this decision. We are focused on ensuring that the code that is actually being utilized by our platform is the code that gets audited. This way, we avoid a scenario where we audit, say, 50% of our work, then add a host of new features upon release, leaving that additional 50% unaudited. In our commitment to transparency, I must acknowledge that we faced some delays in the auditing process due to our decision to engage an audit company from outside of the #MultiversX ecosystem, which didn't prove as effective as we had hoped. However, I am pleased to report that we expect to complete the audit process within the next one to two weeks. This marks a significant milestone in our journey towards ensuring the integrity and security of our platform for our users. Q: NFT Finance is redefining the utility of #NFTs by introducing #DeFi type products. Do you think JewelSwap is best suited to pursue this emerging trend due to the nature of the products you have already? What do you think are the potential risks and challenges associated with integrating DeFi principles into NFTs? A: Before embarking on the JewelSwap journey, I admit my knowledge of #NFTs was somewhat limited. However, the creation of our proprietary Collection "Comverse" and engaging with our vibrant community has truly deepened my understanding of what constitutes a successful NFT project. I believe this knowledge informs our approach to the NFT #Finance sector and positions us well to navigate the new landscape. In terms of potential challenges, one significant issue could be the potential illiquidity of NFTs. A dynamic and active marketplace is crucial for maintaining asset liquidity. Fortunately, #MultiversX boasts one of the most robust marketplaces in the field, enhanced by an impressive UI/UX design that stimulates trading activity. The consistent high ranking of MultiversX across various blockchains in terms of volume is testament to this. Another possible risk is the demand for utility in NFT projects from the community. A project's longevity can be jeopardized without ongoing development activity. However, JewelSwap offers a solution by providing an additional utility for collections: the ability for the community to borrow $EGLD. This not only adds value but also incentivizes members to invest in tokens, generate profit, and repay loans. Moreover, the maintenance of a positive, transparent, and communicative environment is key to fostering a thriving community. The enhanced utility offered by JewelSwap contributes to this dynamic, and should projects uphold this transparency and vibrancy, they can leverage JewelSwap as an additional benefit. Ultimately, JewelSwap aims to deliver an enjoyable and beneficial platform for users. After all, why would anyone want to stay in a Discord channel that isn't delivering a valuable and entertaining experience? As long as projects can sustain this positive and transparent community spirit, JewelSwap is well-equipped to support them in the emerging trend of NFT Finance. Q: Buy Now Pay Later and rental services are common in traditional finance and #ecommerce. What are some of the challenges faced in implementing BNPL and rental models in the context of NFTs? Do you think these models could influence the way people interact with NFTs in the long run? And of course is it something that you see exploring with JewelSwap down the line? A: Absolutely, we've already incorporated a feature that mirrors the "Buy Now Pay Later" concept. This is currently operational under " #Mortgages", but perhaps a better name might have been "Down Payment," given the mechanics of the feature. Here's how it works: suppose an NFT is priced at 7 EGLD, a user can utilize just 2 EGLD to acquire it. The remaining 5 EGLD is structured as a loan that needs to be repaid. However, inherent risks accompany this process, and one obvious risk is the possibility of failing to redeem the NFT, leading to its liquidation. Despite this risk, our community has embraced this feature and instances of non-repayment and subsequent #NFT liquidation have been surprisingly rare. Any NFTs that do get stuck in the Smart Contract due to this process can be later listed on a secondary marketplace. So, in essence, yes, we're already exploring these financial models in the NFT context with JewelSwap and continuously assessing their influence on user interaction with NFTs. 2023.05.29 23:12 nuggetsofchicken Jezebel review: "You Aren't Prepared for How Disturbing 'Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets' Is"
Interesting portions werre bolded by me.
You Aren't Prepared for How Disturbing 'Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets' Is The Prime Video docuseries interrogates abuse within the Duggar family as well as the insidious Christian organization, IBLP, they subscribe to.
By Rich Juzwiak The four-part Prime Video series
Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, which premieres June 2, is structured like a double helix. On one side is an excavation of the “shiny, happy,” and God-loving image that the prolifically breeding Duggar family put out into pop culture via its TLC specials and eventual series, the most recent iteration of which was called
19 Kids and Counting. That series was famously halted in 2015 upon
reports that the family’s eldest son
Josh Duggar had sexually assaulted five girls—some of them his sisters, including
Shiny Happy People subject Jill Duggar Dillard—prior to the family’s TV deal(s). The followup TLC series,
Counting On, which focused on some of the grown-up Duggar siblings as they procreated, was also canceled after another bombshell: Josh’s 2021
arrest for the possession of child sex abuse material. He was convicted and
sentenced to more than 12 years in jail the following year.
The other side of the docuseries concerns the Institute of Basic Life Principles, the Christian umbrella organization that the Duggars were a part of and (often subliminally) evangelized via their TLC shows. They homeschooled their children via the IBLP’s curriculum, which was created by then-IBLP leader Bill Gothard. Like Josh, Gothard faced sex abuse allegations—in 2014, more than 30 women
accused Gothard of harassment and sexual abuse, and in response he stepped down from IBLP leadership. Gothard was then
sued in 2016 by a number of alleged victims, though they
withdrew their case in 2018 in part because the statute of limitations for the allegations had been exceeded.
The allegations sex abuse in the Duggar family and their larger religious organization are but one parallel explored in
Shiny Happy People. There is, of course, the Gothard teaching that women are subordinate to men, something the Duggars were extremely open in practicing (hardly a surprise when abuse results from such a doctrine).
There’s also the IBLP’s advocacy of child labor for building various structures, reflected in not just the Duggar children’s hands-on work, but also in their participation in a show that they didn’t exactly consent to be in. The docuseries’ ping-ponging between IBLP teachings and Duggar practices “naturally evolved as we started finding all of the similarities,” said
Shiny Happy People executive producer Cori Shepherd Stern in a recent Zoom interview with Jezebel. “It was like, ‘Wait a minute, these interview subjects are talking about child labor, and then we’re finding out all of this child labor stuff [about IBLP].’”
Shiny Happy People co-directoexecutive producer Olivia Crist described the Duggars as the “poster family” for the IBLP, and though their direct connection to the church wasn’t always specified on their shows, its teachings were exhibited matter-of-factly in the Duggars’ presentation of their lifestyle. “When you watch it through this lens of understanding how the IBLP operates, you’re going to see stuff on the show that’s directly from IBLP,” said Crist. Other examples include the modesty standards, which had the Duggar girls and women wearing sack-like dresses (sometimes with bloomers), the process of courtships, and the expressed notion that one’s first kiss should be saved until marriage.
“It’s like these almost bullying institutions or individuals who really exert a great deal of power over a lot of individuals—usually women, children, other vulnerable populations,” said
Shiny Happy People executive producer Blye Faust. “Oftentimes these things just flourish and hide right there in front of us. And it takes a lot of people to look the other way to allow them to amass the power and influence that they do.”
Whether or not TLC was aware that it had been distributing effective propaganda for IBLP, it is undeniable that the network and the Duggar shows’ producers played a role in blasting out their covert messaging of Gothard’s values. Jill Duggar Dillard, the only of the 19 Duggar children featured on
19 Kids and Counting to appear in
Shiny Happy People, recounts her father negotiating his family’s participation in the show without any of the kids’ input (how patriarchal of him!).
She says that the Counting On producers were shocked when she said she did not want to have her childbirth filmed by the show’s crew (she and her husband Derick Dillard, who is also interviewed in the docuseries, filmed it themselves). She says that when she asked TLC to compensate her for out-of-pocket costs related to childbirth, she was told, “Well, we paid the family.” Jill maintains that she was never paid for her participation in the multiple TLC series depicting her life (“No cash, no check, no nothing”) and that a contract her father had signed for her when she was underage carried through into her adulthood. “Listen, this is not a takedown of TLC,” said Blye. “We had reached out to members of the TLC production team that worked on the shows at the time and weren’t able to get anyone on to speak to us. So, you know, it’s a little bit hard to know what they knew and when they knew.” Crist said the question of TLC’s culpability is “one we pose in the show to the audience to kind of decide for themselves.” Blye said that her team had reached out to “a number of the family members” beyond the siblings, and those who agreed appear in the docuseries. In addition to Jill and Derick, they include patriarch Jim Bob Duggar’s sister Deanna Duggar and her daughter Amy King (née Duggar), as well as former Duggar family friends Jim and Bobye Holt, who say they learned that Josh “touched his sisters inappropriately” in 2003—the year before the first Duggar special,
14 Children and Pregnant Again!, premiered on TLC. At the time, their daughter Kaeleigh Holt had been selected by Josh for courtship for marriage. In
Shiny Happy People,
the Holts recall Michelle Duggar (Josh’s motheJim Bob’s wife) saying that Josh only intended to reveal his abuse to Kaeleigh after they were married, and that when asked whether Kaeleigh was “a carrot to get Josh to behave,” they said Jim Bob responded, “Yeah, kinda.” Regarding Jill’s interview, Crist said, “There was some hesitancy on her part and rightfully so, because of all that she’s been through.” In the doc, Jill maintains that her brother’s abuse allegations never should have been made public (she also says that if she had to do it over again, she wouldn’t participate in the
interview that she gave Megyn Kelly in 2015 essentially downplaying the alleged molestation). Of course there was a compelling reason for the allegations to be made public: It shattered the “perfect family” image the Duggars were attempting to put out that could easily be read as propaganda for the IBLP. On that note, Jill attests she was raised in a “cult-like environment,” and there’s footage of Jim Bob recounting his condition on participating with TLC: “We will do this documentary as long as you don’t edit out our faith.”
“I think that when a person has experienced abuse, there’s a huge amount of shame involved in that, so even admitting that you’ve been abused is a huge weight to carry,” explained co-directoexecutive producer Julia Willoughby Nason, who along with Crist interviewed Jill. “I think the layers of her maybe telling a portion of it to one individual in a certain context at a certain time of her life was one thing, but developing it and having her story being put into a [public] context where she didn’t give consent adds insult to injury.” In addition to Jill, the docuseries contains interviews with other survivors of IBLP’s alleged abuse, including Emily Elizabeth Anderson, who was a plaintiff in the Gothard sex abuse case. (When reached for comment by the filmmakers, Gothard declined to participate.)
In aggregate,
Shiny Happy People is a damning portrait of a Christian organization that created a power structure leaving so many of its followers open to abuse, and a profile of exactly how that played out in one family. The many other survivors of IBLP and its teachings whose testimonies appear throughout the docuseries’ four episodes only further speak to the insidious nature of the church’s invocation of purity, godliness, and moral superiority—a condescending facade for revolting exploitation.
The four filmmakers Jezebel interviewed expressed desire to continue on the IBLP/Duggars beat after the release of
Shiny Happy People.
“This is just a small portion of this world,” said Nason. “This is just a taste. It’s scratching the surface. It’s so many layers—compact layers of earth, of generations, of systems of social control.” Stern said that one aspect of the docuseries she would like to expand on is the penetration of IBLP teachings into prisons. “I encourage people, after you watch this, to read how far it went into our prison system and how taxpayer dollars were used to make these things that were colloquially called ‘God pods,’ where women prisoners in particular had to read the [IBLP] teachings and be part of it. And they got special housing and they got special food.” submitted by

2023.05.29 23:12 Benjo1985 seeking advice on my HTCG mechanics
Hey, everybody!
I've been working on designing a TCG, and I thought I had some interesting ideas for the game mechanics. However, I was sharing my ideas with someone, and when I explained my original idea for the life system, they hated it!
After a bit of a rant, they advised me to bounce some of my ideas off fellow HTCG designers/players.
I've already determined an alternative to my first idea for the life system (a pretty easy fix, honestly), but my other concerns are the resource engine, and win conditions.
My initial idea for the resource engine resembles the "memory" system of an existing game; a sliding scale that tracks the resource as it's expended, and doubles as a turn tracker, since once you make an expenditure that pushes it passed zero, the other players' turn starts with the difference.
One alternative I have in mind is either cards that impart/generate the resource (a popular system), another would be gaining tokens each turn. I really like my first idea, but, I've only just gotten through my first draft of a rule set and need to not be so precious about my ideas if they don't work/appeal to players.
my other concern (this one was also mentioned in the conversation that prompted me to explore my ideas more) was win conditions. My initial idea was 2 possible win conditions; either reduce another players' number to zero, or, be the first to earn a specified number of points by completing "investigations"; these cards give in game objectives (that can be accomplished deliberately, or passively via normal game play), and award a number of points upon completion based on the difficulty/number of objectives.
So, there it is, points of concern I have in designing my TCG; sure, it's prompted by a whopping ONE persons' opinions, but, it also forced me to consider things I hadn't, before. So, let's discuss, why not?

2023.05.29 23:07 9spaceking Is Stella Powered by Chat GPT?
Previously, the eloquent AI's seemed to have limit to how much text they could generate -- even AI's like Isolde could only generate a paragraph at best. However, I recently noticed Stella which seemed capable of generating 3 to 4 paragraphs of text, in a remarkably similar manner to Chat GPT 3.5. Is Stella powered by a similar algorithm, or did they increase max token limit for some of the AI's? The behavior is crazy!

2023.05.29 23:04 aryastark2626 Anyone here have multiple kindles?
I just got my first kindle and it's the 2022 generation 16gb in the denim color. I love how lightweight and portable it is, but I like reading in the tub or by the pool and was considering getting a paper white too for when I am by water, but keeping my 2022 generation for more convenience such as traveling as it's so lightweight and small and fits everywhere so easily.
Anyone have multiple kindles? Am I overdoing it? Help me out!

Synopsis:
"Ueno-san, you're cringe"
As the head of her middle school's science club, it's only fitting that Ueno is also a brilliant inventor. With devices that can convert any liquid into drinkable water, deodorize the most foul smells, or even generate dark matter to be used as a means of concealment, it seems like nothing is beyond Ueno's capabilities. However, she doesn't invent these devices for the advancement of mankind. Rather, the one force that motivates her is love, the only phenomenon she can't quite figure out.
Ueno is head over heels for Tanaka, her nonchalant fellow club member. Yet, because she is too nervous to confess her love and he is too oblivious to notice her affection, her love life is completely stagnant. In Ueno's mind, if she could just expose him to perverted situations, then surely he'd get flustered and fall for her, right? Assisted by her stone-faced classmate and dedicated wingwoman Yamashita, Ueno employs her many inventions on Tanaka in a lewd manner in hopes that he may one day understand how she feels.
Why should you watch it?
I mean, isn't the answer obvious? How Clumsy you are, Miss Ueno is a ten volume manga from Tugeneko, a 4koma specialist who has a history of slice of life comedies in Care to Caret and Swim Team, the slice of life about girls going about their day to day lives in swimsuits. Anyway, the bloke has a history of questionably lewd comedies and that's right up our Rewatch Group's tastes! This one is even heavily inspired by Doraemon. We all grew up with Doraemon right?
Ueno itself ran from 2015 to 2022 and got itself a neat little 15 minute comedy skit anime in 2019, which is what we'll be watching this month. It's not long, pretty comfy, and will be loaded with more questionable content than you can shake a phallic looking stick at. The anime came from our friends as Lesprit, famous for some weird capybara anime? and the director, Tomohiro Tsukimisato, did... rockman? He worked on one of the Battle Network anime and on Kirakira Kirari. And Tanuki to Kitsune.
It stars Yu Serizawa who everyone here loves as Shera from Demon Lord, as Ueno and features Miku Ito singing our banger op! There is also an English dub available but I'm sure my rewatchers are too cultured to watch a dub, RIGHT!? It has a nice cast tho. Hillary Haig as Ueno, Monika Rial as Yamashita. It also has "Patty Cakes" playing Mizuna. There's no way that's right? XD
So, if I haven't convinced you to watch Ueno yet then please sample a couple extra cultured clips that will explain the show better than looking at its iffy cast history~ We have a highlight clip from Nekomanscer lovingly referring to Ueno as The Pee Drinking Anime. The phone charging scene~ And of course the tights smelling scene. We've got so much more! Aaand this is my birthday rewatch so you're all obligated to come~ 12 episodes, 15 minute runtime, lifetime of trauma! Let's fucking gooo!
The series is available to steam on HiDive, Crunchyroll, and I think a lot of them are on YouTube right now too!
Fun Stuff
Simple and clean!! We've got our normal Questions of the Day, although I may cut down the number depending on how much actually happens each episode. We will have Comments of the Day!! I'll be stealing highlights from whoever leaves the most interesting insights day to day. I only accept comments coming from watchers who have replied to three other rewatchers however!! Don't be shy, we're all in the same boat here. I also have one final section... that will more than likely flop again but I'm gonna beat this dead horse until it works!
Abyssbringer's "What is the thematic purpose of this scene corner!!"
In this section I will be posting a preview pic of the following episode. Your challenge is to dedicate a small write up about the "thematic" purpose of said scene~ The best submission will get a dedicated spot in our patented Abyssbringer's "What is the thematic purpose of this scene winner's corner!!"
So to be clear, check the preview that I will be posting each day, be sure to write an extra addidum or quip filled monologue about that particular scene/screenshot, and include it in your post! For examples please check out Ichigo Mashimaro and Kodomo no Jikan or Kunoichi Tsubaki! Just to be clear this section is made for a bit of fun. If you don't understand it, please check with me and I'll explain it further. I'm gonna make this a thing if its the last thing I do!!
[Weekly reminder]() [24H Reminder]()
Dates, times and plans
I plan for the rewatch to begin on Tuesday the 13th of June at 22:00 UTC, 17:00 EST 16:00 CST, 15:00 MST, 14:00 PST So 10pm UK time. We will be doing one episode per day with a series discussion to wrap up.
And so! You must drink my urine, HelioA!!
