2023.06.08 19:59 No_Holiday_5717 M16 2022 still worth it?
So I am looking for a laptop for both gaming and software dev stuff, and currently the M16 2022 with 3070 ti is on sale for $1400 on bestbuy. Seems like a decent deal, but what do y'all think? I am not a heavy gamer but I play some triple-A games every now and then. I'll use it %70 for software development and %30 for gaming. Comments are appreciated, thanks

2023.06.08 19:57 mazobrozo Am I wasting my degree if I accept this job?
I am currently doing my summer internship. It is with the same company as last year, but they offer tech services in many different fields, and it is a large company so there are many different things I can try.
Last year I was doing a web development role. I got good reviews, but I don’t know if it was imposter syndrome or what but I felt like I did a terrible job and everyone hated me despite getting an offer to come back.
I declined that offer, but since I know people in the company I eventually got another internship, this time it is more on the sales side of things.
I am not going to lie after only 4 days I am really worried that I may be wasting all of these people’s time.
To be honesty this internship has been very easy and I hardly even have to do anything. I am basically meeting with every member of the commercial sales team and seeing what they do, shadowing peolle, and meeting with high ups in the company to talk about the state of the business and teach me sales things. I honestly don’t know what exactly will happen.
The thing is, going on LinkedIn fills me with dread, I am not good at forming relationships in real life, and I worry that if I do take a job in this field then my entire computer science degree would be a waste.
I wanted to try something that did not involve coding, and while I don’t love coding I definitely would feel more comfortable in that sphere than what I am currently doing.
Maybe I will like it, and I am trying to have an open mind. All I keep thinking about is all of the time I will be wasting for these people should I decline the job if I get offered one. I don’t even think it is like a straight up sales job where you get commission, but instead I would start out assisting the actual sales people
I worry that I won’t seem interested and they will all feel like they’re wasting their time.
Furthermore, I graduate in the winter, so I was hoping that I would like this and take a job here.
The thought of software development interviews gives me a feeling of dread inside and I don’t want to have to go through that
Declining to come back to the role I had last year may go down as one of my greatest regrets.
Do you think I am wasting these peoples time? Is there anything anyone can say to make me feel better about this? Everyone seems so happy and excited to see me and deep down I feel like I am just going to fail them

2023.06.08 19:57 theMezz Why a local man was court-martialed for saving Lafayette's life

A tearful reunion
You can't miss Amos Parker. He is well over six feet tall. Some say closer to seven. Many say he was the tallest soldier in the American army during the Revolutionary War.
This week, the now 63-year-old Parker enters Shepard's Hotel on Bagg's Square in Utica (really the Bagg's Hotel, but the name was changed while Abraham Shepard owned it from 1825 to 1828). Parker is determined to meet the hotel's distinguished guest, the Marquis de Lafayette.
In 1777, while the Revolutionary War was raging, the then 19-year-old, tall, red-haired Lafayette left his home in France and joined the American army in its fight to win for the American colonies their independence from Great Britain. He fought in many battles and, in 1781, commanded troops in Yorktown, Virginia, when British Gen. Charles Cornwallis surrendered his army to Gen. George Washington, just about ensuring an end to the war and an American victory.
On the night of January 30, 1948, Utica firefighters fought one of the most spectacular fires in the city’s history. Flames roared through “The Long Block” on the west side of Lower Genesee Street, between Oriskany and Whitesboro streets. The 3-alarm blaze was fought in temperatures 30 below zero. Seventeen firefighters were injured and 11 businesses damaged. Losses were estimated at $400,000.
Now, 44 years later, the 68-year-old Lafayette is back in America, touring the country as a guest of its grateful citizens. This week, after visits in Rome, Oriskany and Whitesboro, he enters Utica triumphantly via the Rome Road (today Lafayette Street). After a big celebration, he is in his hotel room, resting before continuing his journey east.
Suddenly, there is a knock on the door and in walks the very tall Amos Parker. At first, Lafayette is puzzled, but then Parker begins to relate an incident that occurred at the Battle of Yorktown.
As the fighting there raged, Lafayette ordered 25 of his men — including Parker — to remove a fence so that Lafayette could lead his soldiers through the breach. "Once you remove the fence," Lafayette shouted, "allow me and my men to ride through the opening. Do not fire your weapons!"

More:Later known for illustrations, Saturday Globe began without: Mohawk Valley history
The fence was removed and Lafayette and his men began to ride through. Suddenly, Parker spotted a British sniper aiming his rifle at Lafayette. Before the sniper could fire, though, Parker raised his musket and shot him.
Unbelievingly, an aide to Lafayette had Parker court-martialed for disobeying Lafayette's "don't fire your weapon" order. He, of course, was acquitted when it was learned that by disobeying the order, he had saved Lafayette's life.
Now, in a hotel room 44 years later, Parker and Lafayette relive the incident. They embrace and (a historian later wrote) enjoy "a heart-tugging event and weep" in each other's arms. (After the war, Parker settled in the town of Augusta in southwestern Oneida County and died there in 1842 at age 80. He was buried at the Parker (Augusta) Cemetery at the intersection of Augusta-Solsville Road and Anderson Road. A blue and yellow state marker there reads: AMOS PARKER, TALLEST MAN IN AMERICAN ARMY. SAVED GEN. LAFAYETTE'S LIFE. PRESENT AT THE SURRENDER OF CORNWALLIS. BURIED HERE.

You owe the community repayment for this debt. Not in money, but in service. You are expected to exercise a high standard of living, put forth an honest effort to make your neighborhood a better place to live and accept public calls of duty to serve your community with its charities and efforts to improve the public well-being."

Pro hockey returns
Utica, after many years without a professional hockey team, has one again. The Utica Comets are in the American Hockey League, a minor league affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League. They will play in the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Robert Esche, a former goalie in the National Hockey League and president of the Mohawk Valley Garden, will operate the team. Mayor Robert Palmieri says the move fits in with his vision for a revitalized Bagg's Square and Harbor Point development. "What a great day for the city!" he says. "The emotion is overwhelming."
The Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame inducts Stan "Buddy" Evans, longtime baseball coach at Rome Free Academy and college football official; Bill Holowaty, originally from Mohawk, longtime baseball coach at Eastern Connecticut State University; Ed Wadas, a "super" supporter of local athletics and called the "candy man" for giving out candy at local games, especially in Whitesboro, Oriskany and New York Mills; and Tom Wells, multi-sport coach at New Hartford schools, especially known for his highly successful swim teams.
Bobbi Jo Kahl is approved by the town board in Remsen as as the town justice.
In American Legion baseball, Roberts Post defeats Whitestown, 3 to 1. Nate Palmer, a senior at Holland Patent High, strikes out 18 and gets the win. He is supported by the hitting of Kinsey Williams, Nico Ramos and Austin Mann. Whitestown's Jared Muraca pitches well, allowing only five hits.
Trivia quiz
Next Sunday is Father's Day. Let's celebrate with a tough question. Name the man who was the son of a U.S. president and also the father of a U.S. president. If you can't name him, at least name the two presidents. (Answer will appear here next week.)
Answer to last week's question: Richard Nixon was president when, on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin first walked on the surface of the moon after landing in the Apollo 11 lunar module.

2023.06.08 19:56 Oldtimer_2 Vikings releasing Dalvin Cook: Landing spots for Pro Bowl running back with team reportedly moving on
2023.06.08 19:56 Hungry-Tumbleweed623 I have been trying to Post this I am just looking for Advice I am Self-Employed and looking for a home loan I found a Subprime Lender and I am not sure if it will work out I don't want to waste my time hopefully my post does not get deleted again I just need advice from people who know
I have applied for a loan and they want to Verify My Income with a Profit and Loss Statement is that normal?
I am Trying To Get a Loan for 85,000 on the House that I bought 4 Years agao on a Lease to own contract it is down to 85,000 I have 40,000 to pay down I am self-employed and make a good income. I do have "Good" Credit it just hit that mark the only thing that I have that I wish I had never got is a mountain of Student Loans that always mess me up......So this is all kind of confusing to me. I'm used to contacting a bank or even online lenders and getting denied so quickly. I actually have decent credit; it just hit the "Good" range. I've been working on improving it for months. It was good in July of last year, and I wish I had tried to do this back then. Then around Christmas, my student loans appeared on my credit report again. What I mean by that is that last year, half of my student loans dropped off my credit because they were transferred to a new company, as I later found out. In July, I could have qualified for financing... Anyway, now I have to get the house financed. I've already spent $47,000 on it, including a new roof. The owners want to get rid of all their rental properties, and they have made it clear why they chose a rent-to-own contract instead of a land contract—it's easier for them to get out of...
Anyway, fast forward, I've been kind of freaking out for months because I received a $41,000 inheritance, I thought I could increase this significantly, with my business maybe even pay in cash. Well, It did not increase because I got sick so I still have the same amount if I had a few more months I could just pay in cash...... I was talking to my bank, but they kept telling me that I shouldn't have bills over $700 a month, or they couldn't help me...
I applied with ============== because I had a conversation with a loan officer there, and she kept calling and emailing me until I applied. Surprisingly, she didn't ask for the usual documents like tax returns, which most lenders require.
I told her that I run my own business and that's how I make money, and I file my taxes accordingly. However, she doesn't want my tax returns. She wants me to complete a Profit and Loss Statement or have a tax professional do it for me. I also mentioned that my debt-to-income ratio has always been a problem due to my student loans. She said that if my student loans are in an Income-Based Deferment Plan, they could consider that. In my case, I pay nothing towards the loans due to my income, even though it is not that low but I do have 5 Kids and she said they wouldn't consider the debt from my student loans at all because of that. She mentioned that typically they would use 1 percent of what I owe, which is a significant amount and would negatively affect my application. However, besides that, I only owe on one credit card, which I'm close to paying off. I don't have much credit anymore, except for a Secured CD that has significantly raised my credit score. Other than that, I have regular bills that I owe.
BECAUSE: This Bank is a Prime Lender she has my APR at 11.90% my payments are still up at 800 a month for 20 years She has The Loan Senario at 100,000 with my down payment and closing cost then the loan total shows 43,000
However, she has been very brief in her responses, and when I ask her questions, she sends quick answers. I'm still a little confused. And she Just will not slow down and answer me or explain. Does this seem correct? Does it seem like this will work out?
Is There a Better Way?
Thank you for Reading all of this if you are still with me and know about this please any help and advice tips etc.... would be great PLEASE NO HATEFUL COMMENTS I am going through enough. I really just need help with this and NO BEFORE ANYONE SAYS FIX YOUR CREDIT FOR 6 MONTHS OR TRY TO GET A LOAN NEXT YEAR OR WHATEVER NOPE. I HAVE TO DO IT NOW!!!!! I HAVE TO GET A LOAN WITH IN THE NEXT 2 MONTHS PERIOD AND CLOSED ON. I WISH I COULD JUST GET THE OWNER TO TAKE 50,000 AND THEN PAY HIM MORE PER MONTH OR SOMETHING BUT HE IS SO AGAINST IT SO I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE THAT DEAL BETTER TO WHERE HE MIGHT ACCEPT I HAVE PAID HIM 47000 INCLUDING A NEW ROOF THE HOME IS WORTH A LOT MORE NOW THAN IT WAS.
Anyway that seems so crazy to me if anyone on here can Help me tips tricks advice
Can you finance the house and I pay you back anything LoL I have 50,000 to pay down and can not get a decent loan I literally need 35,000 dollars plus closing costs I do not want to have to pay for this for the rest of my life so what can I do. In 20 years of this when I am so close to paying it off there has to be a better way........... Right??????
Below is the email she sent me after informing me that she needed the Profit and Loss Statement, not my tax returns:
Hi ---------
Thank you for applying for your prequalification. I am hopeful that we can assist you with your home purchase. The scenario is for the purchase of a single-family home. If the scenario works for you, please send the following documents, and I can provide you with a prequalification letter.

2023.06.08 19:56 ---randymarsh--- Service Advisors who came from Sales?
Has anyone made the switch from Sales to Service Advisor?
I have an opportunity for joining the most reputable and largest volume Toyota dealer in town (coming from Sales at another lower volume dealer). It’s enticing me with the consistent schedule and more days off between. Not to mention a more steady paycheck. I’m okay with taking a pay cut for these things.
I’d love to hear the perspective of those who have actually made the switch from Sales to Service Advisor. Any regrets? How are you digging the role relative to Sales?
Thanks in advance!

2023.06.08 19:55 That_Cauliflower4703 Help! Am I sabotaging my marketing career?
Help! Am I sabotaging my marketing career? I was doing an unpaid internship for the past 3 months, (I’ve previously done 2 other unpaid internships prior to this one). My boss has had me running Google ads, doing website quality checks, posting to clients’ socials, writing a blog here and there as well as getting my certifications done. I sit in on meetings with my boss and the clients and I take notes to observe and learn from client facing meetings. Now the three months is up and I was offered to be paid for things I have certificates for, like Google ads. However, I am still expected to sit in on a lot of meetings and do a lot of other things unpaid. So I will only be earning pay for maybe a third of my time. This was kind of a huge blow as I was looking forward to being paid honestly I am hurting financially and about to have to start paying my student loans. I am just very financially stressed, I haven’t been paid in well over a year since finishing school and doing these internships. I was told this internship had a job opportunity for me, it wasn’t expected but they offered, and now I am feeling discouraged because they told me I’d only be paid for some of the work and will still have to continue working for free on the majority of things and sitting in meetings - I was looking forward to getting a larger paycheck. I want to leave this internship and find something paid now that I have experience under my belt, but I also don’t want to shoot myself in the foot in the long term if I am throwing away a good learning opportunity.
Am I throwing away a good learning opportunity or should I apply to other entry level positions for money??
(I have my bachelors in marketing, I am Google ads and analytics certified, meta blueprint marketing associate certified but haven’t run Facebook ads yet. done udemy and Google digital garage courses for digital marketing, hub spot email certified, I’ve done 3 unpaid internships - content marketing, email, social, Google ads - I have had success with Google ads for search and performance max, I am knowledgeable of seo, have working knowledge of building a Wordpress site with elementor, basic design skills. I also have an Etsy shop that has almost 300 sales that I’ve optimized, built a brand around, etc.) when will i be good enough to finally get paid????

| Soundscaping for Retail: Improving the Customer Experience with Acoustic Booths in Dubai’s Stores https://preview.redd.it/f1v1fflt1u4b1.jpg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fbb744a2f8cbac55e6d4c60c7d9f94130fb2c26 In the bustling retail landscape of Dubai, creating a memorable and enjoyable shopping experience is essential for businesses. While visual aesthetics and product displays play a significant role, the impact of sound on customer experience is often overlooked. Introducing soundscaping with acoustic booths in Dubai’s stores can revolutionize the way businesses engage with their customers. In this blog, we will explore the benefits of soundscaping and how acoustic booths from 800Phonepod, a leading acoustic booth company in Dubai, can enhance the customer experience. Table of Contents · Enhancing Ambience and Atmosphere: · Personalized Shopping Experiences: · Noise Reduction and Distraction-Free Shopping: · Encouraging Social Connection: · Flexibility and Customization: · Conclusion: Enhancing Ambience and Atmosphere: The right ambiance can create a welcoming and immersive environment for shoppers. Acoustic booths provide an effective solution to control and shape the soundscape of a retail store. By incorporating sound-absorbing materials and strategic placement of booths, background noise and echoes can be reduced, resulting in a more pleasant and comfortable shopping experience. The booths help create a balanced acoustic environment where customers can focus on product exploration and enjoy a tranquil atmosphere. Personalized Shopping Experiences: Acoustic booths offer an opportunity for retailers to provide personalized shopping experiences to their customers. These booths can be designed as private consultation spaces where customers can have one-on-one interactions with knowledgeable staff. Whether it’s for fashion advice, tech support, or product demonstrations, acoustic booths create an intimate setting that fosters engagement and builds trust. Customers can freely express their preferences and receive tailored recommendations, leading to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. Noise Reduction and Distraction-Free Shopping: Dubai’s bustling stores are often filled with background noise, conversations, and other distractions that can hinder the shopping experience. Acoustic booths act as sound barriers, minimizing noise transmission and creating a quiet oasis within the store. Customers can escape the external commotion and focus on exploring products without distractions. This noise reduction not only improves the overall customer experience but also enhances concentration and decision-making, leading to higher sales conversion rates. Encouraging Social Connection: Retail stores are not just about shopping; they are also social spaces where customers can interact and engage with others. Acoustic booths can be designed as small meeting areas within the store, providing customers with a comfortable space for conversations and discussions. Friends and family can gather, exchange opinions, and share experiences without disturbing the overall store ambiance. These booths foster social connections, creating a sense of community and enhancing the overall shopping experience. 2023.06.08 19:54 ltc0928 Do you have any experience/success stories in inquiring about switching to fully remote during an interview for a hybrid role?
A recruiter set me up with an interview for a 6 figure, hybrid position (2-3 days in office). I've always said I'd have to be dragged back into a physical office but, for the right number, I'd walk in.
Now if the office was downtown, I'd suck it up and deal with it. The problem is, the office is in a very far suburb. By car, it's 84 miles roundtrip. By transit, I'd have take 2 buses and 2 trains.
I just can't stomach the idea of commuting like it's 2019. Yes, the salary increase covers gas and car maintenance - but I'm not sure it covers my sanity. Especially with how Chicago winters are set up.
I figure I charm the socks off these guys then nicely ask them about any possibility to switching to 100% remote. Should I do that in the first interview and save everyone's time? Or wait to see if/when things feel promising in the second/final interview? Or do I let that question go through my recruiter?
The recruiter did say that the client is a little flexible in terms of the hybrid policy and, hey, the worst that can happen from me asking is a simple 'no'. I have a job - not six figures - but a good one, so I don't need to leave (I just don't blow off 6-figure opportunities when they land in my lap).
