For about a month, Ive been fighting the urge, but finally decided to give in. I'm going to go into maintenance for about 3-7 days. I'm honestly not sure what to expect. Should I expect weight gain of any kind? (e.g. fat gain or water weight)
Also I would like to give an update from my last post. I've lost about 10 pounds!!! I'm so so happy about it and I'm still in disbelief. I've started to use a calorie tracking app to help me. Also from my previous post, I've noticed several concerned people, and I really understand. I have about 2 friends who used to have ED, and it was scary to listen to. I think I'll be fine in my opinion. If I managed to lose 10 pounds with no issue, I think I can continue doing well!
One last note: In about 3 weeks my family is moving to South Korea. Should I be concerned? On one hand, my weight loss or gut health in general might improve because the food quality is great, but on the other hand, I'm worried I'm going to get really stressed out.

Bought 4 new tires last year. Ran over a screw on the highway yesterday. Ok, bring it in to Costco. Unfortunately, I’ve reached the WORST customer service in the world. And this is why you go to a local tire shop or America’s Tire- because it will happen eventually.
Let’s start off with the fact that many of todays cars do not come with a spare tire- like my Tesla for instance. When you pop a tire or get a nail or whatever, you have limited options. In this case, I was able to get to Costco, but air was leaking fast. It took me 20 minutes in line to get to a guy saying he couldn’t do anything for me today. Ok, when can you do something for me? His response was to come back and wait an hour outside before opening. The tire is not repairable, and even if it was, they can’t take care of it today.
Ok, at least let’s make sure the tire I need is in. Yes, it’s in and you’ll have to pay $110 for one tire even though it’s under warranty. Come in tomorrow early and we will replace it.
Next day: there at 8am and 4th in line out of 20 people. Get to the front of line at 9:10 and he says since you are 4th, we may get to you in an hour or it may take all day. Seriously? Some of have to work. What kind of service is this? They didn’t even warn me of that.
Costco: if you have 3 bays and 20 people waiting in line each day for a popped tire, then just take appointments on 2 bays and have the other bay for emergencies!! Ridiculous. I’ve learned my lesson and will never buy tires from here again.

I feel like this is not an obscure title? I just have not been able to find it. I might have read this short story in high school or something.
I know it's set in the South in the US. I want to say it's between 1900 and World War II? There were a lot of descriptions to how rural/sleepy and kind of set back further in time this small town is?
There's a pharmacy, I want to say the woman either owns it or works there or lives above it? There's descriptions about whiskey in the childrens' tonic.
The main character is a woman. She's either a widow or divorcee. She is kind to children, but she's tough as nails.

No magic powers allowed, battle takes place in the middle of Birmingham. The place where they will be teleporting into will be some random guys house while he is trying to eat breakfast.

I have a plausible idea where it might be. I think most of it starts in Lake Park going south towards the grand staircase then through the North point light house. Problem is he says go southwest but is vague on how far so I went pretty far to the North Point water tower following the Oak Leaf Trail where I discovered the St Mary's School of Nursing launched by the three Daughters of Charity that links to German immigration. The illustration may be a Nun or Nurse of sorts. Looking down on google maps the top of the building looks like a foot and is five stories high (fifth). The water tower across from it sorta looks like the city hall towers and the circular pool could be like the millstone. There is a point of grass the looks like the forehead where roads intersect. Facing St Mary's from it's south side on the left is a little fence with a pattern similar to the neck piece on the illustration. I think it's right there. I'll include a google pic of where I think it is.

I'm a young American woman, and when I started going to college a few years back, I became friends with a large group of Indian guys. Two of them are Sikh, one raised in America and one raised in Punjab. After spending a long time with them and learning a little bit from them about Sikhism, I feel a strong pull to learn even more, and possibly convert.
I have been raised without much religious presence in my life. When I was around 12 years old I started going to Church (Christianity) but always felt uncomfortable and unwelcome in the Christian community, as a woman, and for other various reasons. When I started to learn about the practices and beliefs of Sikhism, it checked all of the boxes that Christianity didn't. I know I don't have to convert in order to practice the beliefs of Sikhism, but I think I would find a lot of joy and connection to God if I did choose to convert. I am not ready to call myself a Sikh convert, as I don't know nearly enough about the religion to do that yet, but I'm starting my journey to learn more and test the waters before possibly converting.
I have a handful of questions, which I've talked to my Sikh friends about a little bit, but I found this subreddit and wanted to ask a more broad audience.

1. I have very short hair for a woman. I take a lot of pride and invest a lot of my identity in my short hair. It's something I love about myself, and I'm not sure how I feel about the possibility of growing it out. I understand that keeping long hair is a very important aspect of Sikhism, but I also don't want to change an equally important part of myself and my personal identity. There seems to be a lot of discourse on cutting hair, and I wondered if I could get more opinions?
2. Keeping my hair covered is another thing I want to consider. I know that a lot of women choose not to veil/wear turbans/wrap their hair, and some do, but I don't know what would be best for me, especially as someone who takes a lot of pride in the way I wear my hair now. What are your opinions on such things?
3. I've been told different things on this topic so far, but how would most people react to a white girl converting to Sikhism? I've heard that elders in the community would react poorly, and I've also heard that they wouldn't mind. Is there a general consensus on the opinion of converts who are not Indian?
4. I also read a little bit about the avoidance of "empty rituals" and want to understand that topic better. What constitutes an "empty ritual" and what should I be avoiding?

There is not much else I'm worried about with my journey to learn the practices of Sikhism, and these are the main things I'm questioning myself on. Please help guide me a little bit, as I'm trying to learn more.

Heads up I'm from South Africa and I have been trying to receive my payment from paxum for up to 4 weeks now. They keep rejecting my wire transfers and my efts. Saying, it's a problem on their side. Generally speaking, the freediving scene is extremely inclusive. However, freedivers have to place a lot of trust in their dive buddies, which can make the community seem exclusive, particularly if you’re a new diver. Spearos are a step above this: Not only do they put trust in you to saftey them well, but they also don’t want their hard earned fishing spots to become public knowledge.
If you’re looking for buddies, a good place to start is with a freediving course. This course will teach you to not only dive bettesafer, but it will also make it that much easier for local divers to trust you as a saftey.
Once you’re certified, most coastal areas have freedive groups and clubs. And many instructors have groups of their own so that their students can connect with each other. These groups are a great way to get plugged in with local divers, as well as a way to join group charters/trips.
Do not underestimate these group trips. Not only are they often a great way to train alongside phenomenal local divers, but they are also a great way to find dive buddies, establish yourself as a good dive buddy, and ultimately get out in the water on more private trips.

I would be interested in comparing the rape culture beliefs and statistics of incidences in USSR under socialism comparing to US under capitalism.
I can see that colonial English settler culture (dominant culture influencing in North America) has rape culture ingrained into it from patriarchal structures while there were aspects of a strong push for gender equity in USSR. Pornography, prostitution, and commodification of women’s bodies for profit was not as much a thing under socialism in USSR as it is under capitalism. So I am wondering if this influenced the rate at which women’s bodies were being objectified to the point of justifying widespread bodily autonomy violations by men.

Stuart Stevens, who has gone from running Mitt Romney’s campaign for president in 2012 to a perch as a leading Never Trumper, is out with a new book: his mea culpa of sorts, “It Was All a Lie: How the Republican Party Became Donald Trump.”
Some of Stevens’s former colleagues don’t like it, and one of them, Matthew Scully, savaged it in National Review. “Perhaps the most devastating book review you’ll ever read,” National Review editor Rich Lowry promised.
The review is, to be sure, unfriendly, countering that Stevens is, in so many words, a clown, a hack, a liar, a grifter — and wrong. I’m not here to referee the bulk of their dispute, but one particular claim by Scully in his review merits a closer look.
In his book, Stevens apologizes for his role in propping up a Republican Party he now considers to be little more than a “white grievance party” cynically exploiting racism in the pursuit of power. Scully objects to much of what Stevens has to say in the book, and he zeroes in on Stevens’s claim that, in hindsight, he should have seen all along that Republicans were getting ahead by exploiting racism. Stevens cites the rise of the New Right with Barry Goldwater’s campaign in 1964 straight through to President Donald Trump.
Scully is appalled at such libel upon the GOP, and comes to the spirited defense of Goldwater and one of his chief advocates, William F. Buckley Jr. Buckley was a founder of the National Review and, in many respects, the modern conservative movement, who, Stevens wrote, was simply “a more articulate version of the same deep ugliness and bigotry that is the hallmark of Trumpism.”
“As a rule of thumb,” Scully responds in the reportedly devastating review, “anyone so glib and presumptuous as to brush off as ‘ugliness and bigotry’ the enduring political and moral legacy of William F. Buckley Jr. has, for that reason alone, no business involving himself in Republican affairs.”
Scully might want to take a dive through the archives of his own magazine before offering such a definitive judgment. A review of that record shows there is no doubt which side of history Buckley placed himself on. Now, he stands athwart it with Trump, like it or not. Stevens, if anything, was being too polite.
IN 1957, as Congress was debating the first Civil Rights Act since Reconstruction, Buckley penned an op-ed that scrubbed away the euphemisms to get straight to the heart of the matter.
“Let us speak frankly,” Buckley wrote in the editorial, titled “Why The South Must Prevail.”
“The South does not want to deprive the Negro of a vote for the sake of depriving him of the vote,” he goes on. “In some parts of the South, the White community merely intends to prevail — that is all. It means to prevail on any issue on which there is corporate disagreement between Negro and White. The White community will take whatever measures are necessary to make certain that it has its way.”
Buckley goes on to weigh whether such a position is kosher from a sophisticated, conservative perspective. “The central question that emerges,” he writes, “is whether the White community in the South is entitled to take such measures as are necessary to prevail, politically and culturally, in areas in which it does not predominate numerically?” His answer is clear:
The sobering answer is Yes — the White community is so entitled because, for the time being, it is the advanced race. It is not easy, and it is unpleasant, to adduce statistics evidencing the median cultural superiority of White over Negro: but it is a fact that obtrudes, one that cannot be hidden by ever-so-busy egalitarians and anthropologists. The question, as far as the White community is concerned, is whether the claims of civilization supersede those of universal suffrage. The British believe they do, and acted accordingly, in Kenya, where the choice was dramatically one between civilization and barbarism, and elsewhere; the South, where the conflict is by no means dramatic, as in Kenya, nevertheless perceives important qualitative differences between its culture and the Negroes’, and intends to assert its own. NATIONAL REVIEW believes that the South’s premises are correct. If the majority wills what is socially atavistic, then to thwart the majority may be, though undemocratic, enlightened. It is more important for any community, anywhere in the world, to affirm and live by civilized standards, than to bow to the demands of the numerical majority. Having justified denying the vote to Black people in the South as “enlightened,” Buckley then grapples with the proper level of violence needed to sustain the “civilized standards” he is intent on upholding.
Sometimes it becomes impossible to assert the will of a minority, in which case it must give way, and the society will regress; sometimes the numerical minority cannot prevail except by violence: then it must determine whether the prevalence of its will is worth the terrible price of violence. By 1957, when Buckley was writing the column and Congress was considering its civil rights legislation, lynchings were continuing in the South, a mechanism of discipline to enforce Jim Crow, a regime that rendered the post-Civil War constitutional guarantees of the franchise and the right to equal protection of the laws mere words on paper. Buckley concluded the editorial by suggesting that with enough guidance and charity from white people in the South, Black people may one day be worthy of an equal standing.
Universal suffrage is not the beginning of wisdom or the beginning of freedom. Reasonable limitations upon the vote are not exclusively the recommendation of tyrants or oligarchists (was Jefferson either?). The problem in the South is not how to get the vote for the Negro, but how to equip the Negro—and a great many Whites—to cast an enlightened and responsible vote. The South confronts one grave moral challenge. It must not exploit the fact of Negro backwardness to preserve the Negro as a servile class. It is tempting and convenient to block the progress of a minority whose services, as menials, are economically useful. Let the South never permit itself to do this. So long as it is merely asserting the right to impose superior mores for whatever period it takes to effect a genuine cultural equality between the races, and so long as it does so by humane and charitable means, the South is in step with civilization, as is the Congress that permits it to function.

A decade ago I was young naive and just wanted some love- haven't we all been there. I got myself a long distance boyfriend, spent couple of summers south where he lived. We flied for visits as often as we could, me studying him working. There were so many red flags... like he wanted to control me, he wanted me to be submissive and gave out all the misogynistic vibes that I kept ignoring. Oh and we were of different religions (I'm atheist, he's from a very strong faith which he didn't specify until more than a year into our relationship) and later on he told me his goal was to convert me. So as I was about to break up, I found out I was pregnant. Of course I didn't break up. I tried to change myself so somehow we become a family. He felt my change, but he though it was him doing a great job converting me and started manipulate me even more- for example "if you don't start studying my faith blah blah you can forget about me marrying you and becoming family" bs. Stuff like that, maybe not direct quote- it did happen decade ago - but that's what he meant. He punished me for being "impolite" to him by not visiting the baby. He wouldn't even send any money for child support, even though he knew I had 0 income (again I didn't work and only studied, I paused my studies halfway through for the tiny one). Eventually he got too far. I told him fok marriage, baby gets my surname, didn't write him down in birth certificate. Told him he can earn his rights if he wants to, he didn't say a word against. He blamed me for not being nice and submissive and not jumping planes with newborn to move to him where I had nobody and nothing, because "he would sooooo have taken care of me if we moved. I stayed with my amazingly loving and supportive parents instead. We "stayed together" till baby was 10months, he visited twice. He had money and his work is his laptop so he could have come more often if he wanted to. I decided I had enough and threw him an ultimatum: either he's the father or gtfo. He laughed at my face telling nobody will take me now that I'm not in a position to tell him what to do and I should be grateful for any crumbs he throws my way. I told him I will let him know when baby grows curious of him, I won't stop their relationship eventually but until then he doesn't exist for me. And so years went by. I'm married, have two more kids. My amazing husband got himself written up in my firstborn's documents and he's really treating them all equally. My kid knows he's not her biological dad, but doesn't care and isn't interested in meeting the guy. Never asked questions, never showed any interest when we talked about it. Last year or so my ex started demanding me to accept his gifts, money and for a meeting, either at our place or travel to him. Says he's "so proud" of how his kid is growing (it turns my stomach just to hear all that). I continue my way. No meetings, no speaking no nothing until my baby asks for that. My kid has a full family and a happy life, I don't want to start throwing in that guy who is your "real" dad??? but was never around because reasons? He tells me I punished him enough (I don't do this for his punishment, I just don't want my kid around this misogynistic person with way too strong religious beliefs for my taste) and called me AH. So tell me AITAH for keeping them apart? *English is not my first language, please no judgement on that

Tl dr: ~3.65/4 in my first institution(asian university, harsh on grades); 3.99/4 after transferring to USA university.
Details:
I was a math major in my home university and had a gpa of 3.65 out of 4. I realized that I was much more interested in astrophysics than mathematics after two years of study. So I transferred to a U.S. university that is very strong in astrophysics. Now I have studied in US for two years and will graduate in 24spring. So I will spend 2+3 years in UG studies. My current gpa in US is 3.99, which I am quite satisfied with.
I took all astrophysics related courses at the US university. I have a first-author paper that will be published in a popular journal in my field. I also have a 980/990 physics GRE score. Should I be worried that the relatively low gpa from my first institute will hurt my profile?
I plan to apply for part iii programs at Cambridge. I know that Cambridge is very strict on the gpa of incoming students. Almost all admitted students from North America have a 3.9+ gpa. Will Cambridge pay more attention on my gpa after transfer or will they review my transcripts from two institutions equally?
