2023.05.30 01:07 toooldforthiscrapxo Processing CSA impacts throughout a lifetime

My CSA happened when I was in preschool. In our culture, it was a shameful thing to happen in a family, so my parents hushed it up and denied that it ever happened. For me, it was bad enough that I was abused, but even worse that I was then called a liar by my own parents.
I grew up as a cobbled-together set of coping mechanisms and denied for decades that it affected me in any way. "Sure, I was abused, but I turned out fine. I'm okay. It didn't matter." A familiar refrain.
Even getting to the point of admitting it happened took decades. And then it took another decade or so before I was able to admit to myself that it mattered, that I was affected deeply, that it basically ruined my sense of self. And now another decade has gone by, and I'm not sure where I am or how I feel about what my life is like now, and how I should approach things.
It's like I have no baseline. I don't know why I do anything I do. Is it because I want to show that I've overcome my trauma? If so, why do I feel the need to do that? Is it to make me happy? I don't even really know what it's like to be happy.
What is joy? I look at my children and I am so envious. So far, I have managed to protect them from CSA-level trauma. And I see my children laughing and enjoying moments, large and small, and I wish I could have such pure emotions.
I feel like everything I do is tainted. All of my accomplishments... In spite of? Because of? Regardless of? Am I to be defined and framed by my CSA and its impacts forever?
I had a dream the other night that I was a tour guide leading people on expeditions, and an older couple came on my trip. Somehow or other, during this trip, we figured out that they were the parents of my abuser. I told them what had happened, and they were mortified. The next day, they disappeared from the tour during the river rafting portion. I later found in the dream that they had left me a letter saying that they were sorry and ashamed to have raised such a person who hurt me like that, and would "take care of it."
I woke up not knowing how to feel. I had never considered the abuser from the perspective of the parents who raised that person. Did they know? Did they do anything about it? How did they feel about having had a child who caused so much pain and suffering to little children?
I have had paralyzing performance anxiety all my life, and have only recently begun to overcome it in dribs and drabs. If I had never been abused, would the anxiety be as awful as it has been? Could I have overcome it more easily if it didn't trigger my deeply ingrained CSA memories and reactions every time I got up in front of a crowd to perform? Who could I have become?
They always tell you not to focus on what could have been. But I just feel like I was cheated out of so much in life right from the start because of my CSA and my family's response to it. And there's really no one for me to tell about all of this. Even my therapists find it difficult to really understand and empathize with. I mean... What do you say? And every time I try to bring it up with someone I trust, they just... dismiss it. Not really outright dismiss, but they say things like "Be proud of what you've accomplished! Don't think about what could have been."
I guess this is where I'm stuck now. Thinking about what could have been. How many more decades until I get to the next stage?

2023.05.30 01:06 music_1245 High School Choir Student in Desperate need of Help

So I'm a highschool student in choir, as a Soprano 2, who struggles with what comes naturally to most singers. I have somehow made it into audition/select choirs - but I struggle with two major things: sight singing and holding my own part. I'm planning to spend the summer working on how to sight-sing (I don't play any instruments and have been self-taught to read music) but the second I could use tips for.
When I sing in small groups I find it nearly impossible to not gravitate towards the soprano 1 part - doesn't matter if I know my part like the back of my head. I once learned my entire part on the piano and had every single note memorized in my sleep, and still failed when I sang with the other 2 parts. It was a very simple song. I've tried earplugs, memorization like no other, and breaking down parts by intervals - I still fail. I've been singing in choirs for so long and I've always learned my part by memorizing it and listening to my voice part around me but its no longer cutting it. I know this sound beyond stupid but I genuinely cannot figure out how to be an independent voice part singer. Evidently, its incredibly anxiety-inducing, and I have hardcore imposter syndrome lol. Any tips would be well appreciated.

Enterprise Group (TSX: E, OTCQB : ETOLF) Earnings Exceeded Expectations And More to Come
When you finish reading this article, you may well kick yourself. The good news is that the Enterprise Group, Inc. (TSX: E) (OTCQB: ETOLF) growth is just getting started. While hindsight is 20/20, the future looks very bright for this consolidator of energy services (including specialized equipment rental to the energy/resource sector), including one of the first companies to build and release systems and plans to drastically lower GHG emissions of resource companies. (Opened in Apr 2022).

Cool as that is, it isn’t the good part the graph below shows the price growth of Enterprise (orange line on the graph below) over the last two years against all the major indices (group like a rainbow at the bottom).
If you bought the shares a couple of years ago, congrats. The second-best time is today.
I will give you the most up-to-date info and stats. If you don’t come out with a positive attitude about the shares, I can’t help you.
I will list the salient reasons why a little (or a lot) of the Company should be in your portfolio. Over and above the fact it smoked the major US Indices.
These points will be in some order, but all are powerful forces to grow the Company.
  1. The shares closed on Friday, May 26th, 2023, at CDN 0.475 cents—a 52-week high.
  2. If you bought the shares two years ago, they cost around CDN 0.20 (Returns later).
  3. FY 2022 Earnings of CDN 0.05 (Next fact is impressive)
  4. Q1 2023 Earnings of CDN 0.06 a share.)
  5. To date, the Company has purchased and canceled nearly 11 million Enterprise shares at an average cost of CDN 0.24
  6. ENTERPRISE management puts much time and effort into the company’s growth, mainly for its shareholders’ benefit.

For more context of most recent earnings (and for those more visual investors among us) announcement’s power, comparing Q1 2023 to FY 2022 is productive.

FY2022 Numbers
Revenue: CA$26.9m (up 44% from FY 2021).
Net income: CA$2.28m (up from CA$2.38m loss in FY 2021).
Net Profit margin: 8.5% (up from a net loss in FY 2021). The move to profitability was driven by higher revenue.
EPS: CA$0.05 (up from CA$0.049 loss in FY 2021).
Factors That Will Drive Future Growth. A Lot.
  • The oil and gas CAPEX market size was around USD 502 billion in 2020, and it is anticipated to reach around USD 942 billion in 2027, registering a CAGR of around 8.1% during the forecast period 2022-2027…Hence, to meet the strong global demand for crude oil and natural gas, more investment is required for exploration and production activities, which in turn promulgates the CAPEX in the oil and gas industry. (researchandmarkets.com)
  • The BC government breached the Treaty Rights of the Blueberry River First Nations, says a new provincial court ruling that could have sweeping implications for oil, gas, forestry and hydroelectric development in the northeastern part of the province.” (Narwhal)
  • With a stellar reputation, personal relationships with nearly all the resource companies in Western Canada and a stated plan to work with clients to reduce and eventually eliminate GHG emissions, Enterprise is in an excellent and virtually peerless position to benefit from The Blueberry/BC Supreme Court Decision.
  • Enterprise’s senior officers, including CEO and President Leonard Jaroszuk, have embarked on a cross-country tour, visiting investors, financial professionals and others involved in the capital markets to emphasize the growth and potential of the Enterprise.
  • Given the rise in Capex spending and the growth of the resource industry as the ‘Green Economy’ gets underway over the next several years, Enterprise is in the ‘sweet’ spot.
  • The reality of energy production growth represents several things. First, as Green Tech develops, a growing supply of fossil fuels globally will be needed.
  • Resource companies and suppliers such as Enterprise Group will need to continue, with its peers, to create the most benign (and ever more relevant) GHG mitigation production technologies and processes.
  • Oil and Gas CAPEX spending growth over the following years also bodes exceptionally well for the oil and gas service sector. From resource technology company Schlumberger:
Bottom Line
When shareholders and investors dive into the Company’s advances, they will note the following.
  1. Enterprise’s client base constantly grows, including several Tier One companies added in 2022
  2. Uninterrupted annual Cash Flow; a portion used to buyback market shares
  3. Response to Evolution Power Projects has exceeded corporate expectations.
  4. Offer clients custom technologies to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
  5. Blueberry First Nations opens a vast opportunity to add significant business.

2023.05.30 01:04 numismagus Rome this June 4-8

Hi folks, I’m from Asia and will be visiting Rome for the first time. A bit overwhelmed by all the tour packages and reviews on Viator, GetYourGuide etc. Hope to get your thoughts on some things:
  1. How insane would the hordes of tourists be this coming week? I’ve been told it’s the start of summer in Europe.
  2. Are the hop-on-hop-off buses worth it? Which line is the best? I’m considering this on Day 1 for a sweeping overview of the city.
  3. How long would I be in line for tickets to famous sites? Everyone keeps saying I should book group tours to skip the lines. Is it really that bad to queue on my own?
  4. Is there an unlimited pass for the subway (24, 48 hours etc.), and if so how much would it cost?
  5. I’m looking at day trips to Florence, Pisa, and Cascia via bus from Tiburtini Station. Is it reasonable to buy tickets on the spot or best to buy them ahead?
Thanks for any advice and I’m glad I found this community!

2023.05.30 01:04 MKULTRA_Escapee UFO information from other countries, and debunking esri.com's cherrypicked UFO sightings map

As I'm sure everyone is aware, over the last several years, esri.com's "A Century of UFO Sightings" received enormous publicity. Here is a tweet from a couple weeks ago with 4 million views: https://twitter.com/Xongkuro/status/1657553674942525440
Other people have made their own variations of the argument. For example, here's a tweet with 18 million views: https://twitter.com/bosslogic/status/1624765274498154497
3,000 points on /mapporn: https://np.reddit.com/MapPorn/comments/xfq4s9/deleted_by_use
Another older post with the map: https://twitter.com/qikipedia/status/1411671138355253256
But you can find tons of these. There has been a steady stream of references to this map since its inception, but even before this map was created, the argument has been there all along. People falsely claim that the vast majority of UFO sightings happen in the US, implying that the concept of UFOs must be a cultural issue, not a reality.
However, esri.com states in the description on their video, the data source is NUFORC, which is a US-based, English language UFO information collection org. Of course it will be heavily biased towards English language reports, primarily US, exactly as the map implies.
Previous to this, another variation of this map from Larry Hatch was floating around. Here is the distribution of sightings in Europe.
A post on Ask an Astronomer says:
But to me, it seems a little far-fetched that aliens would recognize national borders, and visit one country much more than another if the two countries are geographically close, and similar in population, population density, and economic development. So a map like this suggests to me that UFO sightings are likely to be a cultural phenomenon.
However, if you actually read the text on the page with the map on it, it says:
Note the disproportionate sightings densities for Britain and France, compared to Germany, Holland and points east. The biggest single reason is that Larry Hatch can't read German, Dutch, Polish etc., introducing a very definite "cultural bias".
That is a very different kind of "cultural bias" than people have been claiming. The actual problem is the language barrier, preventing knowledge of sightings spreading from one country to another, but people have been insisting that it actually means UFOs are all made up nonsense and the result of "UFO culture." But if you actually look for information on UFOs in other countries, the distribution of sightings is surprisingly consistent across all countries that I have found information on.
Numbers comparison between countries:
I have a quick preliminary tally on some of the total unknowns and total sightings per country below, and the US doesn't seem any different from other countries, especially when you adjust for population. It is extremely surprising that the amount of unknowns, and even the percentage of unknowns, is about what you should expect. If anyone has more info, please add in the comments, but there is already enough here to completely debunk esri.com's map.
Total Sightings collected by a government- United States: 12,618 collected during Bluebook era, plus several hundred more in later investigations, so 13,128. France: 1,600. Uruguay 2,100. Denmark 15,000.
Total Unknowns- United States: 701 during Bluebook era, total of 872. Denmark: 200. France: 400. Uruguay: 40. Germany: 500 (not official tally for Germany)
Comparison 1, Unknowns: Uruguay has about 3 and a half million people with 40 unknowns, whereas the US has 330 million+ with 872 unknowns. The US has almost 100 times the amount of people, so if Uruguay had the same population, they would have about 4,000 unknowns. Uruguay actually has far more unknowns than expected when you adjust for population.
Comparison 2, Total Sightings: Uruguay has about 2,100 total sightings, whereas the US has 14,000 collected by a government. The United States has almost 100X the population, so Uruguay should have approximately 200,000 sightings if their populations were similar.
Comparison 3, total sightings and total unknowns- France has 1,600 cases, of which about 400 are unknowns. The population of France is 65 million, or about one fifth the population of the US. This means if they had the same population as the US, France would have 8,000 sightings and 2,000 unknowns, which is very similar to the United States, which has 14,000 sightings and 872 unknowns.
[Note: the numbers are going to be off a little bit because different countries started tracking UFOs later on, different requirements for collection, etc, but it doesn't matter that much. These are ballpark comparisons from what governments have collected]
[Note 2: Between Mufon and Nuforc, they collected maybe 10 times as many reports as the government did for the US. However, if we were to do a fair comparison, we can only compare between countries in which several civilian UFO organizations from that country collected reports over similar periods of time. Restricting to government collected reports is at least a fair way to do it because we have more information. And even if we compared the US civilian-collected numbers to Uruguay's officially collected reports, Uruguay still beats the US when adjusted for population (100k+ versus 200k), and the same for Canada. Germany, a much smaller country, also has way more total civilian collected reports than the US as well.]
UFO cases collected by Governments:
United States (population 330 million, 13,128 UFO cases, 872 unknowns):
By the time Project Blue Book ended in 1970, it had collected 12,618 UFO reports... 701 reports were classified as unexplained, even after stringent analysis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Blue_Book
These 366 additional reports, when combined with the 144 reports identified in the preliminary assessment, bring the total UAP reports catalogued to date to 510.
Since its establishment in July 2022, AARO has formulated and started to leverage a robust analytic process against identified UAP reporting. Once completed, AARO’s final analytic findings will be available in their quarterly reports to policymakers. AARO’s initial analysis and characterization of the 366 newly-identified reports, informed by a multi-agency process, judged more than half as exhibiting unremarkable characteristics:
-26 characterized as Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) or UAS-like entities;
-163 characterized as balloon or balloon-like entities; and
-6 attributed to clutter.
Initial characterization does not mean positively resolved or unidentified. This initial characterization better enables AARO and ODNI to efficiently and effectively leverage resources against the remaining 171 uncharacterized and unattributed UAP reports. Some of these uncharacterized UAP appear to have demonstrated unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities, and require further analysis. https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/assessments/Unclassified-2022-Annual-Report-UAP.pdf
France (population 65 million, 1,600 UFO cases, 400 unknowns):
The team is called Geipan. That's a French acronym for Study Group and Information on Non-Identified Aerospace Phenomenon. Its boss is Xavier Passot. Surrounded by dozens of books on UFOs, and stacks of documents, he tells me his mission is to be as transparent as possible about strange sightings and to follow up on each one that his team receives. They publish their results on their website which gets 30,000 hits a month. The team receives, on average, two UFO sightings a day. The department insists an 11-page form is filled out for each one. The idea is to provide details including photographs where possible but also weed out jokers and time-wasters. ... But there are around 400 UFO sightings going back to the 1970s that the French team cannot explain. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29755919
Of the 1600 cases registered since 1954, nearly 25% are classified as “type D”, meaning that “despite good or very good data and credible witnesses, we are confronted with something we can’t explain”, Patenet says. https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11443-france-opens-up-its-ufo-files/
Uruguay (population 3,500,000, 2,100 cases, 40 Unknowns):
The Uruguayan Air Force has had an ongoing UFO investigation since 1989 and analyzed 2,100 cases, of which they only consider about 40 (2 percent) to be definitely lacking any conventional explanation. https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Ultimate_Collection_on_UFOs/eQj1AwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=uruguayan+air+force+ufo&pg=PA160&printsec=frontcover
Canada (population 39 million, 20,000 UFO cases):
The talk and presentation mark Rutkowski’s donation to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections of his extensive personal collection and files on this case and other UFO sightings and related phenomena from across Canada. These include more than 20,000 separate UFO reports filed with various agencies since 1989 https://news.umanitoba.ca/the-falcon-lake-ufo-files/
Spain (population 47 million, no useful numbers):
UFO sightings in Spain are in excess of 7,000, but less than 2 percent of these have been reported to the Spanish Air Force (people may not have known they could, or how to report such things to the Air Force). Out of 122 cases analyzed by an international team directed by Ballester Olmos, 99 had conventional causes, 14 insufficient data for evaluation, 9 unexplained. - UFOs and Government, Michael Swords and Robert Powell, page 430.
Denmark (population 6 million, 15,000 sightings, 200 Unknowns)
COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The Danish Air Force has released 329 pages of previously classified archives on UFO sightings, including details on more than 200 unsolved cases. https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2009/01/30/Denmark-releases-UFO-archives/90411233360944/

Civilian UFO case collection:
Germany (population 85 million, 140,000 sightings, of which 5 percent are unexplained, 500 cases with no possible explanation):
"Germany has a high level of UFO sightings," Robert Fleischer, the coordinator for the German Initiative for Exopolitics, told Deutsche Welle.
He said that, since 1974, over 500 so-called "real" UFO cases - reported sightings that, after careful consideration by specialized experts, cannot be related to any conventional information - have been recorded.
"However, there has never been any official recognition by the German government relating to UFOs or UFO activity," Fleischer added. "So if the Germans were to open any files relating to UFOs, all we would find out is that they pass all their information to the Americans." https://www.dw.com/en/despite-partial-disclosure-europes-ufo-files-remain-mostly-under-wraps/a-4783950
In Germany, there seems to be an endless list of hobby clubs and nonprofit associations. The Association for UFO Research (GEP) is one of them. Their databank includes 140,000 entries, and 95% of them can be explained. https://www.dw.com/en/ufos-and-aliens-in-germany/a-58077707
Japan (population 125 million):
In a small town in Japan of 5,000 people, the town had about 450 sightings in one year: https://www.indiatvnews.com/trending/news/home-of-aliens-japanese-town-has-452-ufo-sightings-in-one-year-viral-story-fukushima-japan-2023-05-03-868661 But I would prefer a better citation than indiatvnews.com.
If anyone has any information and citations to contribute, please add in the comments. I know I'm missing a lot of information on various other countries, some of which have had official UFO agencies, but it's difficult for me to locate the information.

2023.05.30 01:02 HollyWoodFreakOut Character Bios!

Lucian
————————————
Lucian is the guitarist in the band, Horned Curiosities. Lucian is very bold with what he wants and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, he is technically the fan service on social media, delivering their fans with tons of thirst traps. He is 26 years old, making him the oldest of the group. Lucian is the second tallest from the group at a height of 6”2. Due to him being athletic in high school, his body type is well built and pretty muscular. He also has a very cocky attitude and loves to flirt with men. But after a little event between him and Cyrus, their drummer, during their tour, Lucian started dating him. He loves teasing Cyrus in any given opportunity and likes to give him gifts.
Cyrus
————————————
Cyrus is the drummer of the band, Horned Curiosities. He is essentially the ‘mom’ of the group, making sure everyone is on time and prepared for any show they have. Cyrus is 25 years old, placing him in the middle along with Damon, their bass player. He is the tallest out of the group at a height of 6”4. Cyrus’s body type is on the skinner side and he is pretty slim. His social media is filled with aesthetic pictures of the band and eventually some of him by himself in breathtaking views. During their tour, Lucian was teasing him which made him blurt out his confession towards Lucian! Even in all the embarrassment, they became lovers. Cyrus loves doing favors for Lucian as a form of his love.
Damon
————————————
Damon is Horned Curiosities bass player. He stands at a height of 6”0 and is 25 years old. He loves playing video games and arcade games which he is surprisingly very good at. His social media is mostly made up of video games and pictures with his friends from the group. Though his body type is more on the chubbier side, he is very strong and fit when he flexes! After a fallout with the band at their former manager, they had to hire a new one. As soon as the new manager was introduced, Damon was already head over heels for her. He managed to woo her over with his cute compliments and they began to date.
Gray
————————————
Gray is the lead singer of Horned Curiosities! He is 24 years old making him the youngest out of their group. He is also 5”8 making him the shortest as well. Gray was officially diagnosed with ADHD and gets distracted easily. His socials are mostly made up of video games and posts random things, including silly perspective photos of himself and the others. Gray gets angry easily due to his anger issues and is quick to jump to conclusions. All throughout high school, he participated in the boxing club which he now does as a hobby from time to time. Due to that, his body type became more lean and quite fit. Also, due to his lack of fluency in Spanish and despite coming from a Mexican background, he was teased and called a “No sabo kid”.
Josephine
————————————
Josephine (referred to as Joseph by the band members) is Horned Curiosities new manager. She has a feisty personality and does whatever she can do to get the job done. When she is not in her business attire, she loves dressing up in cute Lolita dresses. Especially if they’re hello kitty related. Josephine recently started to get to know Damon more which in turn, began their dating stage. Josephine is 26 years old and is a bit chubby, exactly Damon’s type!
Maverick
————————————
Maverick is a junior in high school and is part of a friend group consisting of 4 others. The friend group is very troublesome and they love to cause chaos. He is the quietest and the most reserved one in the group. Though, Maverick has had a longer history with a member of their friend group named Declan. They have been best friends since kindergarten and are very close. During his freshman year, he met his later girlfriend, Valia. He introduced her into their friend group later on and they got along very well. Maverick is 17 years old and is surprisingly muscular despite looking kind of skinny.
Declan
————————————
Declan is the main instigator of the group and is usually the one that gets them in trouble with his dumb yet exhilarating ideas. As previously stated, Maverick and Declan have been best friends for a very long time, and because of this, Declan has grown a pretty big crush on Maverick. He isn't afraid to have little fun and flirt with Maverick even when in front of Valia and the others because they all think the flirting is one big joke. He is 17 years old and his body type is lean.
Elliot
————————————
Elliot is essentially the only nice one in the group and she mostly keeps everyone from dying and killing each other. She’s the voice of reason and is really cautious when it comes to stunts that their friend group pulls. She is 16 years old which makes her the youngest out of the group she also has a pretty slim body type.
Valia
————————————
Valia is the most daring of the group and never turns down a challenge. She’s very self confident and assertive, who won't take crap from anyone. However; she is quite envious when it comes to Declan and Maverick's relationship due to them being really close. Throughout their years in high school, Valia and Maverick are known to be the “hottest” couple in the school. Which makes their friend group sort of infamous and are known as the “unpopular popular” kids. She is also 17 years old and her body type is pretty curvy.
Viktor
————————————
Viktor, a Russian exchange student who was introduced into the friend group due to becoming friends with Elliot. Viktor is the last addition to the friend group but is certainly not the least. He provides comic relief with his broken English but is surprisingly very clear with his English when it comes to cursing out Maverick. Speaking of which, Mavericks and Viktors relationship is more of a love hate situation. Viktor has a pretty good relationship with everyone else since they actually try to help him learn better English while Maverick just tries to negatively influence it. He is also 17 and has a pretty average body type, but is slightly chubbier, resembling a slimmer dad bod.

Smoke… fire… running… “Help!!!'' Elizabeth hears her mom and brother yell from the house her father is carrying her from… from her house! Their house! The house she's lived in since she was a baby. Her father puts her down. “DON'T move!” He runs back into the house. Her eyes remain dry as the heat evaporates her tears almost instantly, she stares at the fire. She sees a blue flash. Her father does not return. Kobolds and goblins, they sack the town around her as she stares into the fire that consumes her house, her family and the town around them all … Elizabeth just stares in disbelief, meanwhile, a gnome roasts marshmallows in the ash of what is left of everything she's ever loved.
2 weeks later
She didn't leave what was once her home town with much, only a bag of coins; a little melted, and a stuffed animal, oddly and completely unsinged. Elizabeth was 10, she had walked here with a group of newly orphaned kids to this treacherous place and met strange people far removed from her old town.
After only a few days there, you could say she was having quite a culture shock. She soon realized she couldn't make it on her own so… she surrendered and reluctantly went to the orphanage with a few of the others. She didn't blend with them very well, but that didn't matter much, for long. A nobleman soon came to do charity work and scensed magic and potential in her during his charity drive and made sure all other aspiring parents stayed away from her. At the end almost all orphans were adopted except her and before he left he offered her the opportunity to be his apprentice for he was primarily a wizard .
At first she hated even the thought of this because of her bad experiences with magic and it’s creatures as well as her parents warnings against interfering and using magic. But he gave her three days to mull it over and eventually she decided it was the best thing for her to do. She considered that she would be well cared for, and magic couldn't really be that bad. Only the creatures and people who used it. Only good people should have magic.
So she learned slowly with his training, starting with the very basics of collecting materials. “Where are we going, Sir?” she asked, while eating her buttered muffin and soup presented to her by one of the few servants the powerful wizard had. Nepotism kept him from the very top but his prowess in not only magic but speeches in court had gotten many magic schools more funding. “We must go to the shroom forest for the ingredients I need for my next potion” he used as his reply, which left his lips almost before she finished her question.
So they finished breakfast and traveled to the forest early, for it takes a long time, about 9 hours by carriage to get from the capital to the forest. The wizard, Vincent, continued to teach her her first spell for most of the trip which he just called, “Dancing lights”, and she was able to make 7 bursts of dancing lights by the time they’d arrived. “IS that really all you can do?” Vincent said disappointedly. “This is a simple spell, even the least of creatures could learn it! Ugh I’ll expect more when we train again, now, let's gather my ingredients before the sun disappears from the sky!!!”
His outburst was uncalled for and her pride was hurt. She managed to conceal it and just nodded. Then once she had stepped out of ear-shot of him, she muttered “What an unpleasant curmudgeon,I thought I was doing a good job!”
Out of sight of Vincent and where they couldn’t hear each other she was greeted by butterflies who were attracted to the burst of light she’d been creating. They flew around her, their wings creating a soft, melodic hum. Elizabeth couldn't help but smile at their beauty and she reached out to touch one of them. As soon as she did, she felt a jolt of electricity run through her body and then the butterfly disappeared.
Vincent quickly reappeared, as if from the air itself, violently shooing the butterflies away. He turned to Elizabeth, a stern look on his face. "Never touch those, Elizabeth!" He hissed, through clenched teeth. "They may look harmless, but they are powerful creatures!"
Stunned, she had never seen him so genuinely angry, and yet worried. It was unnerving to say the least.
As they walked along in the woods the air slowly became humid and heavy. Soon, the trees started appearing to be shroomish and suddenly they were in a swampy marshland and the path became one of coble instead of dirt. They walked towards a village of mushroom people. They didn't look much like mushrooms, just the top of their heads, where a cap grew like a hat, making them look mushroom-ish. These are the myceli-ites," Vincent said, as they approached the village. "They are the race that live parallel with the mushrooms."
Elizabeth was fascinated as she watched the myceli-ites tend to the mushrooms, a seemingly older mushroom came up to Vincent, “Lord Chancellor Vincent, for what do I owe this honor?”
“Miss Shroomen'', he replied “Worry not, for I am in fact just here for ingredients. Do you still have your blue and black mushrooms?”
Her eyebrows shot up, for just a quick moment that it almost made Elizabeth doubt that she even saw the change in her expression, but, YES! It was there!
“W-why yes we do, just follow me.”
“Stay here Elizabeth!” Vincent said firmly.
Elizabeth nodded obediently and stayed behind as Vincent followed the myceli-ite deeper into the village.
She watched as the mushroom people went about their daily tasks. She felt a sense of curiosity and slight disgust. She didn't care how little these creatures were related to the kobolds and goblins that burned her village or that stupid gnome who almost taunted her. She held a grudge against magical creatures and would certainly never trust them fully again.
As she looked around, she noticed a young myceli-ite girl watching her with interest. The girl had bright blue eyes and a miscellaneous smile. Elizabeth smiles back at her, and the girl ran over to her.
"Hi there!" The girl says excitedly. "I'm Char. and you?”
“Elizabeth” she said, a little startled, after she remembered where she’d been only a little less than a month ago.
“I'm sorry did I startle you” asked Char.
“Yes, but it’s quite alright''.
Char looked up at her with a curious expression.
"You're not from around here, are you?"
Elizabeth shook her head, "No, no I’m not. I'm actually from a different town far away. Well, actually now I live in the capital."
Char's eyes lit up. "Wow, that sounds so cool! I've never been anywhere outside of this forest before."
Elizabeth Ignored a pang of sadness in her chest as she remembered her own home, then giggled “ yeah it's pretty cool they just built a big tower that has something new in it,... I think it's called a clock. I just know it's expensive but Vincent says they are making cheaper ones.
“Who's Vincent?” Char asked.
“Oh well he's my…'' Elizabeth paused, who were they to each other? Is he a friend, a mentor, or was she simply his servant? No, she was no servant and he didn't treat her as kindly as a friend. “He's my mentor,” she firmly stated.
“Oh, okay” Char responded.
As if on cue, Vincent returned with a small pouch. He handed it to Elizabeth and informed her it was time to go. Elizabeth nodded goodbye to Char and swiftly followed Vincent out of the village.
They turned back onto the cobblestone path. “I thought you said we would be collecting ingredients, not trading.”
“I didn't trade” Vincent replied coldly, “Come on, no more questions, we must continue your studies.''
Vincent and Elizabeth headed back to the carriage and started back to the capital.
On the way Vincent and Elizabeth improved her dancing lights trick as it was part of teaching her the basics of charming people.
“Very good, you will need that one around court a lot.” Vincent said smugly.
“W-wait, I get to go to court?” Elizabeth excitedly asks.
“Calm down, tis not nearly as glamorous as you would think.” Vincent flatly responds. “If it was, I wouldn't only be a Chancellor… I’d be more!”
Elizabeth got worried as she saw rage building in his eyes
“It's no party!” Gritting his teeth, he looked at Elizabeth and her fearful expression and his look instantly shifted, “Tomorrow you must be fitted for your court garments, mostly dresses.” He said this with a small smirk. “After you can play dress up.”
This exchange bothered Elizabeth, was he making fun of her?
They rode back to the capitol in silence. She studied for many hours but in the end she drifted off to sleep and Vincent, though willing to continue working with her, saw no point in stressing her powers any further and allowed her to sleep.
Upon arrival he carried her to her bed, “You don't know it yet but you will be the most powerful witch this continent has ever seen.” He smiled as he tucked her in and left to go sleep himself.
not done just seeing how yall like it.

2023.05.30 00:37 teronism [Online][EST][7-9PM][Saturdays][Flexible][Other][Genesys][GURPS][PBTA] Unleash Your Imagination: Story-driven Game Nights & Adventure Awaits!

The Elevator Pitch

I am creating a weekly tabletop game night group (that's a mouthful) focused on roleplaying/acting using various systems and a rotating cast of players every week. Super low stress; just picking up with whoever is available and playing whatever we're in the mood for. I'm seeking out fellow imaginative individuals who also enjoy TTRPGs and tabletop games that focus on improvisation and narrative more than crunch and crits. Bonus points for those interested in GMing or playing colab story games. Sessions will typically lasting 3-6 hours, and I usually run my games in the evenings (EST). Hoping to build a small community of friends and create unique, memorable gaming experiences.

THE GAME OPTIONS

Let's get to the meat and potatoes: I'm wanting to start up a new tabletop group and make some friends! I've made a handful of attempts in the last 6 months to start up new campaigns, some with players I've played with a bunch already, but sadly I'm at the point now where I'm not excited by the idea of shopping around a single idea anymore. SO -- instead of looking to set up a campaign table, I'd like to arrange for more of a game night weekly event with roleplaying as the focus!
Each game will be predominantly theatre of the mind but might use some maps, some of which might be combat maps, but not at all focused on providing a balance of roleplay and combat. The focus will be on roleplay first and foremost, tactical combat isn't as much my priority but if the other members of the group have that listed higher I'm fine including some of it. Systems I'm interested in running/playing include:
I'll only be running games for 5 people~ at a time, but given this is hopefully going to be a small community of friends eventually there's no limit hard limit on how many people I'd like to bring into the fold. I'm getting up there in age (my early 20s are a fond memory at this point) so I'd prefer older folks, but as long as you're not underage and you're a relaxed person looking to play some games and make some friends, I'm not too picky. Creative ability and personality is ultimately more important to my endeavors than anything else.

Bonus Points

If you also enjoy GMing, I'd love to incorporate something similar to this idea I've tried to get going a few times where several people in the group would alternate GMing privilege's to run a concurrent story line letting it evolve and go to all sorts of crazy places as the current GM tries to build off of the last one. Not mandatory, but I'd love to give something like this a try!

What I'm looking for in prospective players:

  1. Decent microphone quality: Don't sound like you're broadcasting from a submarine or a wind tunnel, okay? Let's keep our ears happy and avoid the earbud microphone crisis of 2021.
  2. Discord access: It's like a virtual clubhouse for our gaming shenanigans. Don't worry, no secret handshakes required. Just bring your virtual self and your A-game.
  3. VTT knowledge or willingness to learn: We're not all tech wizards, but knowing a bit about Virtual Tabletops (or being willing to learn) makes our gaming experience smoother than a freshly ironed shirt. Trust me, it's worth the effort!
  4. Imagination and flexibility in play: We're looking for gaming yogis here – be ready to bend, twist, and stretch your creativity like you're in a cosmic game of Twister. Expect the unexpected and embrace the chaos!
As I'm imagining things, there could be a lot of jumping from one shot ideas back into a campaign we started, then back to something else until I'm ready to go back again. I'm only really looking for players who will be cool not necessarily doing the same thing every week; I might later decide and ask the group if they're okay with sticking to one idea for awhile, but it isn't a certainty. Most likely it will look like this:
  1. Early in the week I'll let everyone know what I'm feeling like running, either using a poll to let everyone vote on an option or just declaring what we'll be doing.
  2. Everyone playing that week will have 2-3 days to either figure out a character or otherwise prep.
  3. Anyone who doesn't get a charactematerials ready by game day [but still wants to play] will be given a premade of some sort to improvise off of.
  4. Session plays as normal, and then process repeats following week.
Voice will be done exclusively on Discord, table stuff will either be Roll20, images via discord, or possibly FantasyGrounds. We might also use something like Tabletop Simulator or VR if people are in them mood. I'm perfectly fine using webcam during sessions as well, and you're free to do so if you want to. I may also record some of these one-shots for my own purposes (with forewarning and consent of course), so if that is an issue for you please let me know up front (not a big issue but wanted to throw that out there!).

About me, the guy starting this endeavor off

If you're interested in this little endeavor, send me a private message telling me a bit about What you yourself are looking for, and we can arrange a time to introduce ourselves properly and chat a bit. Don't think of it like too much of an interview - You don't need to sell yourself, I just want to Make sure that we're all looking for the same things and personalities will clash as little as possible.
Alternatively, you can fill out this Google Form and I'll contact you instead! Booyah!

2023.05.30 00:37 DaleDenton08 I think certain settlements were intentionally designed to be smaller.

I’m a big fan of the settlement system, and I always build up certain locations to small towns - Starlight Drive In, County Crossing, Nordhagen Beach, Egret Tours Marina and Spectacle Island. But I think some were designed around one aspect - farms, outposts, etc.
I’m big into the roleplaying aspect of Fallout so I like to believe that the CPG is reborn after the main story and uses the smaller settlements (Outpost Zimonja, Kingsport Lighthouse) as outposts/fortifications to expand their reach.

2023.05.30 00:36 pjlee01 Institute and Faculty of Actuaries: the student dropout rate seems to be at least 40%, the Fellowship drop out rate below age 50 at least 15%

Institute and Faculty of Actuaries: the student dropout rate seems to be at least 40%, the Fellowship drop out rate below age 50 at least 15%
I have carried out an analysis of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' membership statistics going back as far as I can, from March 2005 to the end of February 2022, so the last 17 years.
Sources used: the IFoA's published Annual Reports, consolidated financial statements, publications on "our members".
Note that these are (the IFoA being a shower) not always consistent from one year to the next. Figures that are produced in one report are not necessarily produced in the next one, and the historical figures also change from time to time. And sometimes there are even significant differences between the Consolidated Financial Statements for year X and the Annual Report for year X!
Example: 2019-20 Financial Statements says 688 new Fellows, 97 new Associates, but 2019-20 Annual Report says 1,120 new qualifiers (Fellows + Associates)??(Repeat after me: what is the IFoA? A shower) . I have taken the latter figure as it looks more consistent with the figures for the adjacent years 2018-2019 and 2020-2021).
And in particular, why the blazes did the IFoA stop publishing the number of new students from the new CEO's arrival in January 2020 onwards? Why are they hiding these?
Nevertheless it is becoming increasingly clear to me that the student dropout rate has been of the order of at least 40%, and the Fellowship dropout rate (i.e. the percentage of Fellows who leave the IFoA before age 50 (i.e. to other work - or to continue doing actuarial work without being subject to "all the rigmarole of the IFoA" as the current IFoA President in a Freudian slip put it rather well, since the IFoA admitted last year that 90% of Fellows don't need to be a member to do their work) has been at least 15%.
Caveats: as you can see from my comments above, the IFoA are sloppy and put in what look to be clearly wrong or inconsistent figures from time to time, several of the figures are missing so I have had to resort to interpolation.
As before, the IFoA really should either commission and publish an independent study, or even better: publish the full data so that people can do the calculations themselves.

IFoA membership information from published annual reports (v1)
IFoA Students, Associates and Fellows

New Fellows as a percentage of a) total students, b) new students 6 years earlier
Notice that the number of new fellows each year is between about 4% and 7% of the total number of students. If what the IFoA said over the period was true ("it takes 3 to 6 years to qualify"), then in a steady state you would expect the number of new fellows to be about 100% of the number of new students 6 years earlier. Instead it is below half of it. You would also expect the number of new fellows to be about 1/6th (or about 17%) of the number of total students, but instead it is about a third of that.
NB: the use of the number of students 6 years earlier includes an allowance for the fact that membership has been growing rather than being in a steady state.
This already gives us a strong clue that about half the number of students drop out.
In columns N and O I have calculated the implied exits from Fellows (i.e. from leaving the IFoA, retiring or dying) and from Students [after deducting the number of new Fellows who must come from Students] (i.e. from leaving the IFoA, since the number of deaths and retirements is likely to be very small- and if they transferred to Associate or Affiliate they would still be a member). I have calculated the implied average dropout rates over the whole period in cells M2-M4.
Because the IFoA used to - helpfully - (under the current CEO and Management Board Chair they stopped doing this: why? again hiding information?) publish statistics of membership by age (in 5 year age groups - showing by individual age would be better), I have also been able to carry out a longitudinal study, comparing cohorts of students and fellows 5 years later.

Fellowship dropout rate from longitudinal study

IFoA Fellows by Age
Comparing the actual populations 5 years later with those expected ignoring new Fellows for each of the starting populations of 2008, 2009 and 2010 shows us the net new entrants (positive figures which must be from new fellows less leavers) in each 5 year age group:
Changes in the age distribution over 5 years for periods ending 2013, 2014 and 2015
We can see from the positive bars in the earliest age groups (with midpoints 23, 28, 33 and 38) the likely relative numbers of the new Fellows in those age groups. The implied average age at qualification of the new Fellows was 30.5, implying a mean qualification time of around 8 to 9 years during 2006 to 2015.
Now adding in the total number of new Fellows during each 5 year period, weighted in those age groups gives us the actual number of Fellows in those groups compared to the expected number:

Actual versus expected numbers of Fellows in 2013 to 2015 allowing for initial population 5 years earlier plus new Fellows
The implied Fellow dropout rate (i.e. Fellows leaving the IFoA below age 50) is 17% during this period (more if we allow for growth in membership, so that the 450 leavers are likely to have come from a smaller number of new Fellows than the 2,691 on average during 5 year periods starting from 2008 to 2010).

Student dropout rate from longitudinal study

IFoA students by age

The average student dropout rate over the 5 year periods (End Feb) 2008- (End Feb) 2013, 2009-2014 and 2010-2015 was 40%
Overall, there are 4,109 fewer students than expected, compared to 10,233 new joiners during the average of the three 5 year periods (starting 2008, then 2009, then 2010). This is an average student dropout rate of 40%. (More if we allow for growth in student members: those dropping out are likely to have joined earlier from a smaller cohort of new students).

As ever, if anyone thinks I have missed anything, please let me know! Thanks.

2023.05.30 00:36 kolonelwoefke TIFU by lying and years later telling the truth

TL;DR at the bottom but the post is so long reddit doesn’t recognize it anymore
I’ve never told anyone this so nobody can recognize this except me and the person the fuckup happened with. It still hurts, so I hope telling it to complete strangers in this way helps at least a bit.
Some background information: We were both in a school for people with autism, and even though we were the same age, I was in the class a grade higher than her as I had skipped a grade a few years prior. Both classes had weekly activities together, and we were also in the same group for after school care. As the classes were very small (about 9 or less people per class) and I was also the calmest person in the group, it should come to no surprise that we became friends, best friends in fact.
We did everything together, during both the weekly activities and after school care we worked/played together and I was basically the only boy she talked to about anything. We could talk about anything, she could make me do anything, I even enrolled in crotchet classes to be with her.
After reading this, you might wonder:”where is the fuck up?” So here it is
It was the day after a two-week easter holiday and as usual we were alone in the classroom during break (We were allowed to do this because we both liked to read during this time and preferred this over the noise of the schoolyard) usually we talked though, so nothing special here, that all changed though when she said she had to say something special. And then she said it, she had feelings for me. That’s when the fuckup happened, I panicked and instead of telling her the truth, that I obviously have the same feelings for her, I started walking around the class, back turned to her. Then she asked the inevitable question:”And you?” And here the fuckup continued, a simple “No”. That’s all I said, a simple, life altering no. Obviously her next question was if we’d still be friends, and I thought that would happen. We’d act as if nothing happened and that’d just be it. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth.
Coincidentally, a few days later was my birthday party, it was just her and her sister, as another friend I had invited couldn’t come. And honestly, I didn’t notice anything yet, we laughed, we had fun and there wasn’t really anything different. The week after though… during the weekly activity, there were teams of two, and apparently she had already asked to be in a team with another boy, this was so strange to everyone in her class that they even told me she wouldn’t be in my team hours before we even knew what the activity would be. I was shocked, I was angry, I was jealous, I was emotions I had never felt before. I didn’t participate in that activity. She would never do a weekly activity with me again, always with that other guy, he’d get invited to her home instead of me, I wasn’t invited to her birthday party that year. She wasn’t there during breaks anymore neither, as she had to train dancing for the end-of-the-school year performance.
The rest of the year passed that way, and I went to a different school the year after (not because of anything related) I saw her a few months into the new school year and she seemed happy to see me even asking her dad if we could meet sometime again. We never did. That was also the last time I spoke to her. About a year later I added her on instagram but that didn’t really do much, I liked her posts and wished her happy birthdays, but we didn’t converse. And that’s where it ends right? Nope
Covid hit me and I became emotionally unstable due to the lack of school, so when it was my birthday and I wanted to do something to make me feel alive again, I send her a relatively short message telling her the truth. At 3am. She never responded and I apologized a month later.
As an end note, I feel very strongly about her, I cry thinking about her. And I’ll never know if it is love or something else, but what I do know is that it hurts me emotionally, and although this is probably caused by other factors like the fact that I am lonely as well, I really want to get over her.
TL;DR
TIFU When my best friend and crush told me she had feelings for me, and I lied saying I didn’t have feelings for her even though I did. Even though she said we can just be friends she never acted the same, distancing herself from me and getting closer to another boy. 4 years later I send her a text with the truth, she never responded.
I still cry myself to sleep thinking about her. And I have done for the past 6 years.

2023.05.30 00:31 Frances_P042682 Home Organization Tips: From Cluttered to Cozy

Are you tired of constantly battling clutter and longing for a cozy and organized living space? Look no further! In this post, I'll be sharing some practical home organization tips that will help transform your chaotic living space into a serene and inviting haven.
  1. Start with a Clear Vision: Before diving into the organizing process, take a moment to visualize your ideal home environment. What does it look like? How does it make you feel? Having a clear vision will guide your efforts and motivate you throughout the journey.
  2. Declutter First: One of the key steps in home organization is decluttering. Take a critical look at your belongings and ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" Donate, sell, or discard items that no longer serve a purpose or bring you joy. Simplifying your possessions will make organizing much easier.
  3. Categorize and Sort: Once you've decluttered, categorize your belongings into groups such as clothing, books, kitchenware, etc. This will help you gain a better understanding of what you have and enable you to assign appropriate storage solutions for each category.
  4. Create Functional Storage Solutions: Invest in storage containers, bins, baskets, and shelves that suit your needs and match your style. Utilize vertical space and hidden storage areas to maximize your storage capacity while keeping your belongings easily accessible.
  5. Establish Daily Habits: To maintain a well-organized home, incorporate small daily habits into your routine. Spend a few minutes each day tidying up, putting things back in their designated places, and staying on top of clutter. Consistency is key!
What's your most effective home organization hack or tip that has transformed your living space?

2023.05.30 00:30 ringringbananarchy00 Friend calls me a bridezilla behind my back after leaving my wedding party

Some background: I’m getting married in about a year and a half. The wedding is going to be in the town where my fiancé’s family lives. It’s a beautiful, waterfront venue. We don’t live near most of our friends and family, who live all over, so it was going to require travel for most people regardless of where we had it.
I asked one of my oldest friends to be MOH, largely because she had said she wanted to do it years ago, and I assumed that was still the case. She said yes. I created a group chat for the wedding party. I let everyone know plans as they arose. It’s a small community where we’re getting married, so we have to book vendors really early to ensure we have them. I also want to give everyone time to plan out any possible days off, money, etc.
I told the party that they could book whole houses for like $100/each and that I’d be happy to help them find places to stay. I also offered to help them find affordable tickets, and I sent a link for the site to get dresses. It’s a common one that sells dresses for under $100, and I just asked they get a specific color in any style. I recommended not getting floor length, as most of my friends are short and that would require tailoring. I offered to pay for hair or makeup for everyone, as I can’t afford both, but I made it clear that professional haimakeup is not required at all. My bachelorette will be in my city, a couple months before the wedding. One bridesmaid can’t come because she has to fly internationally, and that’s a lot to pay just to come back for the wedding. I totally get it, and am visiting her this summer so I can see her beforehand. I’m really trying to be flexible.
My MOH, Diane, asked a bunch of questions about the bachelorette and the wedding, and seemed excited about trying on dresses. We all joke about wedding prices and how we should do crypto scams or rob a bank to pay for everything, as I’m on a budget (though my in laws are lovely and paying for most things). Everyone in the party said they’re happy to help put together centerpieces and do basic set up and break down (MOH was the only one to not volunteer). I was in a much more expensive wedding and had to do as much, and it was easy work. The bride and groom did their fair share too.
Diane tells me about a month ago that she had a sudden expense come up and couldn’t afford to be in the party anymore. I reminded her that there was a lot of time and that another bridesmaid (Sam) offered her a seat in her car to drive to both the bachelorette and the wedding (Sam prefers to drive). Diane said no, it’s not going to work. I said fine, I understand. Everything seems normal, I asked another friend to step in and she happily agreed.
A couple weeks later, Sam tells me that she invited Diane over (they know each other through me but were trying to become friends) and that Diane complained that I had demanded she do a lot of work for my wedding, and that no one should expect the bridal party to work. I pressed Sam because I could tell she was holding something back in an effort to not hurt me, but she admitted that Diane called me a bridezilla and went on a rant about how I was demanding a ton even though I hired a coordinator who should do everything. She also said I was spending way too much and couldn’t afford the wedding. This was weeks after she had left the party.
The craziest part is that I never hired a coordinator, I was under budget (still am), and that I never asked her to do anything more than what I asked of the rest of the party. She just made all that up to a good friend of mine who was still in the party. I hadn’t expected any drama, but I guess sometimes weddings bring out the worst in people. This just seems so unnecessary. I was obviously hurt and have uninvited her from the wedding.

2023.05.30 00:30 QuietKlutzy4372 Schedule classes

My planet fitness is small and doesn’t offer group classes (if they still even do that). I can only schedule to join a 3 to 4 person class on the app. I don’t see a whole lot of people doing this, but is it worth it, esp with being a beginner and learning gym equipment/weights?

2023.05.30 00:26 CraigScott999 Genesis - Turn It On Again (Official Music Video)

Genesis - Turn It On Again (Official Music Video)
"Turn It On Again" by the English rock band Genesis is featured on their 1980 album Duke. Also released as a single, the song reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the band's second top 10 hit. The lyrics, by Mike Rutherford, concern a man who does nothing more than watch television. He becomes obsessed with the people he watches on it, believing them to be his friends.
The song is featured on the Flash FM station playlist in the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
Background "Turn It On Again" was built from leftovers from projects by each member: The musical bit used as the chorus was conceived by Tony Banks for A Curious Feeling: "We kind of put [Rutherford's riff] – the bit he didn't use on Smallcreep's Day, curiously enough – with the bit I didn't use on A Curious Feeling, and put these two together. We made it much more rocky; both bits became much more rocky. My bit was a bit more epic, and Mike's bit was a bit slower and a bit more heavy metal. And then Phil gave it a much more straightforward drum part; perhaps neither of us would have thought that we would want that on that bit [...] We put on one or two other bits, too, that ended up from there".
The song is characterised by a rhythmic structure uncharacteristically complex for pop music but common in the band's progressive rock back catalogue. The verse/chorus sections alternate time signatures, 6/4 to 7/4 (13/4), while the intro and bridge sections are in 4/4 and 5/4 (9/4). The riff written by Rutherford on which the song was largely based was originally much slower, but it was transformed with help from Collins. Rutherford explains on the Songbook DVD: "I had this riff [plays lead riff on guitar], but at the time I was playing it like this: [plays slower]. And Phil said, 'Why don't you try it in a faster speed?' and then he said to me, 'Do you realize it is in 13/8?' and I said, 'What do you mean, it's in 13? It's in 4/4, isn't it?' 'No, it's 13.'"
Collins confirms: "You can't dance to it. You see people trying to dance to it every now and again. They get on the off beat but they don't know why". Tony Banks adds: "You can't dance or clap along to it because of that time signature. When we play it live, you can always see the audience getting caught out."
Banks also recalls the use of a duck call on the track to trigger brass hits from a Yamaha CS-80 synthesizer: "…oh Phil had a duck… A trumpet or it may just have been a duck call that he used to trigger the sample to trigger the CS80 to get the sound".
"Turn It On Again" has been a favourite at Genesis's shows. Consequently, the group's 1999 compilation Turn It On Again: The Hits and its 2007 expanded reissue, subtitled The Tour Edition, were named after it, as was the band's 2007 Turn It On Again: The Tour reunion tour. In the 1980s, the band would attach a medley of 1960s pop songs (referred to by the band as the "Blues Brothers" medley, as the first song was "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love"). The song would be returned to its album form for the We Can't Dance tour and the band would later regard the medley as a poor decision.[citation needed] Peter Gabriel played drums when he reunited with his former bandmates at 1982's Six of the Best show and found himself baffled by its time signatures. "It was typical Peter: 'Oh, I can play this'," observed Tony Banks. "But once he started playing, he kept looking around going, Oh fuck! 'Turn It On Again' does funny things – it's truly a Genesis song."
Originally written and recorded in the key of B Major, it was transposed down to A for the 2007 tour and further down to G for the 2021 tour to compensate for the lowering of Collins' voice.

2023.05.30 00:22 Theman061393 World team primer - Post Cup

I'm back with the next worlds primer following the spring cups. To reiterate this is meant to be a summary of how teams/fans should feel about the likelihood of making worlds, either main event or wildcard.
For info on how regions get spots, please see my previous post. (38) Worlds Region spots primer : RocketLeagueEsports (reddit.com)
I am not going to go in depth here, I suspect that at some point rubunaul will so keep an eye out if you are interested in that. If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Should qualify directly to main event

These teams should qualify directly to the main event barring disaster.
*Team has mathmatically qualified for worlds wildcard.

Serious competitors for main event

These teams are those that are virtually guaranteed to make at least the wildcard and have a reasonably good chance at qualifying directly to the main event.
Most of this comes down to who gets the last worlds wildcard spot between NA/EU/possibly MENA.
Huge change in EU here with Moist performing well and in good position for the major they are very likely to pass OXG for the 4th spot and a chance at the main event depending on how EU4 does in the major.
For SAM, the race for the top seed is now much more interesting. With NIP and Kru now in position for the two major spots it could very easily be a three-team race going into worlds. And to make it more interesting while it is likely that SAM will get a main event spot its not guaranteed, so whoever ends 3rd will have a small chance of missing worlds entirely.

Wildcard bound

These are teams that are most certainly going to the wildcard but don't have much of a path to qualify directly into the main event.
G2 has moved down a group now. Given where they are they would need a strong invitational to make the major. Even if they do so they would still be reliant on a strong major to pass COL or NA keeping the 4th spot. And if they fail to make the major then there is a good chance they can be passed by V1 and/or SSG.
BDS now looks very liekly to make the major and thus (barring crazy scenarios) worlds.
KCP has enough of a lead over PWR (32 points) and GZG (36) to likely maintain a top 2 spot even without making major.
For MENA with Rule One going out in third the major spot now comes down to whoever wins that event, meaning that both teams now face an unlikely chance having to make the major and then having a great run.
*Team has mathmatically qualified for worlds wildcard and cannot make the main event.

Reasonable chance at making wildcard

These are teams that are competing for and have a reasonable pathway to making worlds wildcard event.
For NA Optic seems to be in the drivers seat now given their possible major spot, however they still need to stay ahead of the other teams and have NA keep their extra spot.
For EU if PSG Tundra outperforms G1 in the invitational then they will move up to 7th, whichever teams ends there will make it into the wildcard if EU gets an additional main event spot. (And if either of these teams does make a deep run and make the major they could have a chance of surpassing BDS)
SSA might actually be one of the most interesting races there are 3 teams within 4 points for the #2 seed.

Still Technically Alive

For these teams they would need to make the major, and even then, would probably need a deep run or fortunate break from other teams.

Mathmatically eliminated

Everyone else
