I (22f) graduated college early and went on to work at the company I was interning at during undergrad. While interning, I made two very good friends Gianna (23f) and Jack (27m), who also worked there. Jack and I still do, while Gianna has relocated to a different city.
Jack had previously relocated to a different city (which happened to be very close to the one that Gianna is currently living in) to work in a different department at the company, but then moved back to the city where he originally lived (where I was interning and where we all met) and now works at the department there. Jack still owns this apartment, however, and about 8 months ago I was given the opportunity to also temporarily relocate there. It was an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t pass up and Jack offered for me to stay in his apartment at the time since he wouldn’t be using it. I insisted on paying rent but he declined since I would only be there for a few months, and I was very grateful for this.
Here's where the dilemma comes in. Gianna and I got much closer while I was living in Jack’s apartment and on a few occasions we had romantic relations in the apartment. Our relationship didn't progress beyond that since l'm now back in my home city and she's living on a different coast, but we are still very good friends. A few days ago, while at work Jack and I were taking about Gianna, and he alluded to us having relations while I was living in the other city. I was immediately on edge and asked what he was talking about, as neither Gianna or I had told anyone about what had happened. He immediately got flustered and began to backtrack, but after a lot of interrogation from me he essentially admitted that he had a camera system in the apartment and would "check in" on what we I was doing. He then confessed that after the first encounter with G, he would "watch" often to see if it would happen again. I obviously freaked out and blew up on him, I felt disgustingly betrayed by someone who I thought was a kind and trustworthy person. Later that day I talked to one of Jack’s closest friends about it (also a good friend of mine) who told me that a few of their other friends would also occasionally watch what was going on WITH Jack at his apartment, which was obviously extremely disturbing to find out.
Gianna is extremely timid, shy and private. I feel like this information will deeply disturb her, but I am planing on telling her as I think she has the right to know. WIBTA for doing this? I honestly have no idea and would love some further insight. I think the other side of it would be that her and Jack barely talk anymore since she's the only one currently living on the other coast out of our original group and they weren't that close in the first place, but I do still think she should know, I'm just scared that it'll be very difficult for her when she could just be blissfully unaware. I'm very torn.

Those names are a little difficult to recognize. Is there a way to name them something more legible/memorable, such as:
- eth1
- eth2
- eth3
- eth4
- eth1: control port - I connect to the IP address of this port for administration needs mostly by SSH, but sometimes xRDP.
- eth2: network bridge - I assign this port like a virtual switch for all of my lower bandwidth VMs
- eth3: Security system - Used only by the VM for the security camera system. I have an iPad mounted in my wall that displays the output of 4 of my cameras, so this is always sending 4 1080p video streams.
- eth4: Cameras - Wired directly to the POE switch for the cameras. I use network settings to assign IP addresses to the Cameras according to their MAC addresses, kinda like a virtual router.
Anyway, I'll be working on this today, and figured I'd post this while I try to find the answer myself. I may update later if I get somewhere.

Hey, I'm fairly new to videography and have a helios I've used for a while now for photography, but I always noticed the focus ring is quite slow and tough to move. Is there anything I can do as rack focusing takes a lot of effort and causes shaking because of how much force I'm using to turn the focus ring. On the other hand, the error could be with my technique? I don't have a tripod so maybe I would need to invest in a tripod or gimbal, or a camera/lens with better IS to rack focus without shaking?

2023.06.10 19:55 nicotinepercocet car tried to fraud me by reversing and crashing their car to my car in a left turn lane where the light was red, and then accused me of hitting them. now they’re trying to press charges, but i won’t let it slide
edit: by press charges i mean accuse me of xyz and attempt to further escalate the situation. there was no damage to my vehicle, so i didn’t want to press any charges but i did open a claim ASAP. this was right by a major airport so there WILL be cameras. she accused me of hitting her but i have a witness and she doesn’t, also i have photos. when i tried motioning for her to pull over, she tried driving away from me as quickly as possible. right when the collision happened, i called my insurance and opened a claim, gave all necessary info (which is recorded). now i got a letter saying she’s trying to press charges, and is claiming damages when her car hit mine from the front(which is what i believe was purposeful to fraud me). what do i do going forward?

I currently use the Fujifilm X system, and have owned a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 with a 1.4x tc. I've captured many excellent and sharp shots with this camera, but my best shots have always been with a stationary target. The AF system just can't keep up with fast moving birds, especially at the furthest end using the tc.
I'm considering moving to Nikon for wildlife and just wildlife photography. I will never shoot below 100mm as my Fuji prime lenses are excellent already. I've been looking at the used D500 and 200-500mm f/5.6, as well as the 300 and 500 PF lenses.
My question is this: does it make sense to invest in a Nikon system just for telephoto lenses? If so, which camera body and lenses should I get? Or, given the option of starting fresh, go for Canon?
My budget is ~$3k (less money spent is better of course)

Got into accident and and I believe I wasn’t at fault but they have witnesses since there were no cameras in the st so now to the insurance I am at fault anyway. the issue is that the insurance was under my friend and he didn’t put me as a additional driver and the car was under my name. So his insurance won’t pay for the other party. So the other party now sued me for 30k even tho their car don’t even cost 3k. But maybe they add medical bills and some extra. I am in MD. So many people told me since I don’t have money to pay worse scenario if they win in court just file bankruptcy and that’s it. If anyone have experience this please advice.

I took the June LSAT yesterday…it went ok but I felt like I underperformed due to ProctorU interruptions.
During my LG, the proctor interrupted me four times at least to keep moving my camera so he could see both my scratch papers and face….
During my first RC, on my first passage, the proctor drew a BIG line across my screen. It was very distracting and I didn’t know what her intention was, so asked her to remove it. She removed it then drew a new one and some circles…..I was really mad and couldn’t focus on reading. Then the chat box popped, i thought it was popped by accident so I closed it. Then it popped the second time, the third time, I finally saw what she typed “can you adjust my camera so I can see your face”. I adjusted my camera earlier so my proctor could see my scratch paper, and also I didn’t know why she had to draw all the marks, she could just tell me? As a result I did that RC a lot worse than I could. Although there’s a chance it’s an experimental section but I don’t want to take the risk and hope to appeal for a test retake.
Does anyone has similar situations filed complaints before and granted retest?

Prayer & Ritual Sermon Notes
- What is prayer? 1A. Superstitious Prayer 1A1. Asking for boons from god or gods by plea, persuasion or bargain. 1B. Gnostic Prayer 1B1. A means by which a sympathetic or psychic connection is made between the world around you or the Universe above, and without you, with the Universe within you. 1B2. Sympathetic Magick is the oldest form of Gnostic Prayer. 1B2a. Instead of identifying with the herd of buffalo, we are hunting the power to apprehend consciousness. 1B3. Gnostic Prayer is also ritual in much the same way oboriginals danced before a hunt.
- Who or what does one pray to? 2A. If we, ourselves are gods, there can be no supernatural deity to pray to. 2A1. Gnostic prayer is not a pleding; but again, a sympathetic magick for the greater apprehension of consciousness.
- Ritual is simply moving prayer–a moving of the soul in the performance of art. 3A. A dance, a play or dramatic ritual that is the expression of that connection between the self & the Universe. 3B. Ritual focuses the mind and body in a proactive demonstration of that connection; this in contrast with prayer that focuses the mind internally. 3B1. Internally, thinking, ruminating & daydreaming become forms of astral projection. 3B2. Images & symbols in theh mind, empower the mind to a greater depth & breadth of perception. These can be expressed internally or externally acted out in rites; called mystery plays.
- A quality that belongs to both ritual & prayer is TRANCE. 4A. Trance isthe Bhakti aspect; the emotive connection that is called adoration & results in devotion. 4A1. It is love under will or the Universe speaking through the individual–a wonder. 4A2. It can manifest as an anthropomorphic or mythologica being that has the character of a Superman, or God or hero. 4B. Mythology is then the recorded prayer when expressed poetically, and a mystery play when acted out, as either a play or a ritual. 4B1. In modern culture, Clark Kent is Dionysis & Batman is Horus. 4B2. The story of personal transformation is played out; the effeminate nature of the alter ego & the god that is hidden behind the mask.
- Re-enactments of myths become mystery plays & each generation tells these myths for itself. 20th Century superheroes have become as much our new mythology developing, as UFO’s & aliens have become the new angels. 5A. We draw our values and ideals form these. 5B. Our cultural paradigm creates itself through this and our culure becomes historic in the Heideggarian sense.
- The story is always the same; a fractured consciousness to be made whole. And yet eacy generation in its uniqueness must re-tell the story in its own terms. 6A. Sophocles, Euripedes, Aeschyus & even Sartre re-told the story of Oedipus. 6A1. This they set to mystery plays. 6B. King Arthur–the king & the land are one & have their cycle of function & dysfunction. 6C. So many cultures have stories of a descent into the hell of psychic fracturing and the journey to restoration, resurrection and redemption.
- So again, prayer & ritual serves for us as a sympathetic magick that brings us to a greater wholeness or wellness in order that we might perceive consciousness with a greater depth & breadth. We are opening ourselves to what we are to ‘BECOME’ and transforming ourselves from a fractured state to a wholeness of being.
- This change into a wholesome state of constantly BECOMING is the ability to compose our lives. We are employing the formula of ‘love under will.’ 8A. This must necessarily result in the knowledge & conversation of the HGA. 8A1. The K&C of HGA is the state of consciousness by which we can see and fully apprehend our being as constantly BECOMING.

hey ya all, i have just finished it and I thought it was a parody. From the start. And I laughed a lot. I can'tbe the only, right? I mean the camera movement and the actors are very intriguing, but the story is just super ridiculous. Look at their clothing. Dean is wearing an all beige outfit, even his cap is beige. Nora is also mostly wearing, grey or all white outfit, even their pajamas are like that.. and her glasses always looked so funny to me. So misplaced. She never works as many have pointed out. The kids never go to school. The kid Carter is not traumatized by the dead ferret. Elli exists only as someone who wears lipstick and has a relationship with Dakota. The neighbors are so strange and funny, like the tropes of any scary movie: the weird adult neighbor who is traumatized, strange but harmless; an elderly couple that is watching them and wearing weird outfits; the sister that goes on about the precious history of the super white neighborhood? All these strange characters and all of them, except Dean maybe, lack personality! The most funny twist was the one with the Camera in the bed room, like wtf and the scene in which Dean was just sleeping. I just laughed my ass off. This gotta be all a weird parody on the scary movie genre that depicts the typical white American family moving in a horror house and bougie white neighborhood.

It has been about ten months since I last updated the Báthory saga. Ten months and three more disappearances. I am not sure where the dumping ground for the devoured cadavers has moved to, but I am all too aware of where Báthory is the vast majority of the time.
Even though Báthory has not spoken to me again since its warning in the wake of the medium’s grisly demise, its presence has been a constant at work.
When I arrive.
When I hold a Zoom conference.
When I pick up the phone.
Báthory’s inky outline haunts my door when it isn’t off hunting for another stomach-curdling meal. A constant reminder that it is aware of my reluctance to stand idly by while the feeding continues. A reminder that any effort to stymie its bloody feast will be met with swift, intense, and lethal violence. A reminder that my usefulness has expired and Báthory’s patience has limits.
As you can imagine, this has done wonders for my general disposition. My colleagues have noticed my constant nervousness. Students openly comment about my paranoid “vibe” and complain about the ever widening turn around on grades. I have struggled with anxiety before, but this is different. That was general anxiousness about everything that made me frustrated to stand in slow lines or push through crowds. This is a paranoia about something very real. I know exactly what the threat is and what it can do.
But how can I grade in a timely fashion when I still have to be a husband and father at home, then use my old sleeping hours to conduct the research necessary to stop Báthory? Grading is slipped in between meetings and classes during my work day. The few hours between work and “bed time” are to ensure my burden does not destroy my family, and then I browse through online sources for any glimmer of information that could banish this malevolent entity.
Honestly, the late night research hours sometimes work to my advantage. I have moved beyond keeping the scope of research limited to Native American folklore and mythology. I have expanded to any and all strains of supernatural belief across the globe. You know, a completely realistic and manageable scope. I’m not running headlong into a swirling vortex of paranoia and guilt induced insanity, I swear. You just have to have solid, healthy coping mechanisms. The off-brand sugar-free Sour Patch Kids that I devour like a hangry Kronos keep the crazies away. Down the hatch blue raspberry Poseidon.
But, back to how being a night owl researcher has worked to my advantage. Many of the repositories that I contact in search of ancient tomes on mythology and lore are overseas. The time difference means that even though it is the wee hours for me, it is normal business time for some of them. Language barriers be damned, I have Google Translate on my side. Oh, and also the motivation of not wanting to continue being an accessory to appalling murders. That helps me to get my point across the linguistic gaps to these archivists a lot too.
I have already racked up an impressive selection of books of mythology, demonology, and every other topic that could possibly lend some insight to the origins and weaknesses of my shadowy companion. Composed of ancient first editions, reprints, translations, and original copies, the stack has taken over the entire right side of my desk and the coffee table next to the visitors chair in my office. It has been slow going to get through the books. Even when I can locate a colleague that can help with translations, there is often an issue with dialects or other translation hurdles that slow the quest for illumination. Not to mention the probing questions about what exactly my research goals are.
I have spun so many incoherent stevia-fueled lies that I have lost track of what I tell everyone I am on about. The sleep deprivation tends to leave me unprepared for the question and each query receives an off-the-cuff response that never seems entirely satisfactory. It is a good thing I already had a reputation for being a bit eccentric.
Then again, the rumors about how I am linked to the death of that medium might be a more compelling reason for many to lend a helping hand to the rambling, disheveled, wide-eyed professor that storms into their office looking for assistance with analyzing passages of arcane ghost stories.
Keeping my hoard of esoteric books in the center of Báthory’s hunting grounds and conducting my research throughout the fields of prey turned out to be the opposite of a well conceived plan. When prepping a trap for a predator, you should probably not shop for the supplies in its lair.
Keep in mind, I never once claimed to be the Napoleon of monster hunting.
A few days ago I stepped from my office for a quick faculty meeting. I know for a fact that the office door was shut completely behind me, I am a bit obsessive about making sure I close doors behind me. Just be sure that it was fully shut, you will understand why I am emphasizing it here in a minute or two.
After a speedy yet frustrating faculty meeting about details that could have been an email and a shortcut to gather some more snackables, I set off to return to my lair of gothic readings. Imagine my surprise when I found the door ajar.
Imagine my surprise when I entered the room and found the wall smeared with gore and the crumpled body of a student topped with the stump of what had once been a head on the floor.
The bright green collared polo and slacks were still immaculate. His black and white sneakers were as clean as if he was trying them on fresh from the box. The only thing askew was that his neck ended in a still oozing stump and a viscous concoction of skull, skin, brain, and blood was smeared around a rather deep hole in the drywall. This wasn’t the kind of drywall hole a Mountain Dew infused Kyle creates after losing a match on Call of Duty, this was the kind of hole a sledgehammer wielded by someone with a bloody glee in their heart creates.
Naturally, after a brief shocked yelp and unceremoniously depositing my lunch on the floor I called the police. A murder had just occurred in my office. I knew the police could never catch this particular culprit, but what else was I supposed to do when faced with a corpse in my office? Wait for the custodians to take it away with the gummi wrappers and other garbage?
Imagine my surprise when the first responding officer had also been there to question me at the medium’s death. And oh boy, did he definitely recognize me. That stern face was clearly practiced. His face had the round quality of a cheerful baker in a Disney cartoon. Eyes not hardened by years of stress and worry. This was someone who could leave work at the office, but turn on the character while in uniform.
If you are wondering, he did not seem to regard my presence at another death scene as an unwelcome coincidence. His face had more of an “I knew this motherfucker was up to no good” quality to it than surprise or any other reaction. Can you blame him? First I was walking with someone who just happened to start screaming before running away from me into traffic and now one of my students looked like he was trying to spread brain jam on my office wall. He knew I am connected to the deaths somehow.
If only he would believe the truth. If I told him, I would definitely have a Netflix documentary sooner rather than later.
He asked me the normal, if you can call them that, interview questions. We discussed my whereabouts, the identity of the victim, and the timeline of events.
Not buying what I was selling, he decided to pull the security footage. I offered up no objections, the tape would clearly exonerate me. But I also knew it would not provide any evidence he would accept of another, more sinister, culprit.
Just as I had stated, the video showed me leaving my office at the time I had provided. About three minutes later, the student could be seen entering my office.
But how? I know I had shut the door.
Unfortunately, the angle of the camera did not show the latch side of my door, and thus there was no evidence that I had securely shut it. Clearly, according to the officer, I had misremembered. We had both watched the student enter with no resistance. He just pushed the door open. I asked the officer to play back the tape from after I left.
What was I looking for? The shadow that played along the wall toward my door about a minute after I left.
Báthory had set a trap for both the student and myself.
Báthory had had enough of my meddling.
But why not just kill me?
The next part of the video showed me returning, making the gruesome discovery, and calling the police after soiling myself. No evidence of anyone else ever having entered or left my office.
Except for that shadow again.
Releasing me upon my own recognizance, the officer asked if I took one last look at the scene to see if I noticed anything unusual. Aside from the Pollock-esque redecoration my wall had undergone. I indicated to the officer that I did not.
But that was a lie.
About a quarter way down the stack of books on my desk had been a hefty tome bound in faded blue and gilded with dull silver lettering. That book stood out to me among the others due to its age and quality of craftsmanship.
It was no longer in the stack.
That book had the key to Báthory.
You sly bitch.
I racked my brain to remember the origin of that book.
French? Slavic? Uzbek?
I could search through my spreadsheet, find its metadata, and track down any copies if my office wasn’t now a crime scene and everything in it evidence. I would have to find the book itself.

Hi guys im going to be applying this cycle and wanted some advice on schools to focus on and which ones to avoid. I'm okay with applying to schools with a low chance but probably cant do every single one because that's a lot of essays lol.
Background: IP Alberta, completed 4 years, MCAT: Writing August
GPA by school: UofC/Ualberta: wGPA 3.94, OMSAS cumulative: 3.84, Sask: 92.5%, UBC: 89%,
Western: 3.89
ECS: Blood bank: 1.5 years in high school (100-150 hours), Co-foundevolunteer at a food bank: 3 years, Hospital volunteering 2.5 years (110 hours), Physio assistant volunteer 3 years (Ongoing 500+ hours), Rehab for older people with disabilities (50-100 hours), two practicums (children with autism and rehab), part-time cook for 3 years, exec at two clubs 3 years (hopefully starting one this year), play competitive soccer (not pro/varsity) for 10+ years
research: 2 publications in the works but unsure when they'll be out.
