2023.05.29 23:27 ExaminationSmooth390 Homebrew Artificer Subclass

Mostly just for fun and practice, I have been working on a homebrewed artificer subclass for an automaton character (I'll post the race stats I'm working on in a comment, for those interested). I have been trying to keep it flexible, fun, and thematically satisfying without being overpowered or overshadowing other players. I am of the opinion that you win DnD when everyone involved is having a lot of fun, and that fun is most had when everything is well-balanced and everyone can do cool things and shares the spotlight. I am fully aware that everything is ultimately up to the DM I play with and that party balance is also an important factor. I have done my best to compare this to preexisting subclasses, spells, and features to keep this balanced, but I'd love outside input. As I said this is mostly a fun experiment that I don't really expect to ever get to play, but I enjoy the creative process.
Thanks for taking the time to offer opinions if you decide to do so. And feel free to use any part of this as inspiration for your own homebrewed stuff. Happy adventuring!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artificial Artificer
Expanded Spells (Similar to Battlesmith)
3rd Level Feature
Choose 2 extra cantrips from the Artificer spell list. Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Artificial Artificer Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Artificer Level Spells
3rd Identify, Shield
5th Knock, Misty Step
9th Counterspell, Fireball
13th Greater Invisibility, Wall of Fire
17th Telekinesis, Teleportation Circle

Tool Proficiency (Similar to Battlesmith)
3rd Level Feature
When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in one type of artisan's tools of your choice.
Create Familiar (Improved and reskinned version of Find Familiar)
3rd Level Feature
Crafting Time: 1 hour
Tools: Artisan’s, Smith’s, or Tinker’s tools
Components: S M (20 gp worth of a strong material such as metal or wood, glass, and precious gems)
Integrated Offense (Made this one from scratch, but kind of similar to Battle Ready)
3rd Level Feature
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to integrate your artificial body with offensive capabilities. You can integrate up to two simple or martial weapons into your body, one on each arm. While integrated, you are proficient with these weapons. When you attack with your integrated weapons, you use your Intelligence modifier instead of your Strength or Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage rolls.
These integrated weapons can be drawn or stowed as part of the same action you use to attack with them. If an integrated weapon is separated from your body, it becomes unusable unless you spend time and material resources reconstructing it.

Artificial Arcanum (Intent here is to provide options for a weaker version of Arcane Recovery or to choose one of two unique abilities. Not sure how much the flexibility might make this overpowered)
5th Level Feature
At 5th level, you have developed an internal magical energy storage system. Once per long rest, you can utilize this stored energy in one of the following ways:
Option 1: Spellcraft Charge
The advanced energy storage mechanisms within your automaton body allow you to store a reservoir of spellcasting power. You can store a number of spell levels equal to your proficiency bonus. Whenever you cast a spell, you can choose to expend stored spell levels instead of using your own spell slots. This feature provides you with an alternative means of casting spells, conserving your own magical resources.
Option 2: Ethereal Circuitry
Your energy storage system can be expended to alter the magiphysical vibrations of your physical form, allowing it to phase through solid objects. By expending your available energy storage, you can activate your ethereal circuitry. For the duration of this activation, you gain the ability to move through up to 5 feet of solid material, as if it were insubstantial. Alternatively, if an enemy successfully hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to activate your ethereal circuitry, causing that hit to miss. This ability extends to subsequent attacks made by the same enemy on their turn.
Option 3: Momentum Burst
Harnessing the stored kinetic energy within your automaton body, you can unleash a powerful burst of speed and agility. Once per day, as a bonus action, you can activate your Momentum Burst. This grants you the ability to move up to 8 times your movement speed for the current turn. Additionally, your next attack roll made on the same turn has advantage, benefiting from the momentum and precision of your swift movement. However, if that attack misses, the next enemy to attack you before your next turn gains advantage on their attack roll, capitalizing on the momentary vulnerability caused by your aggressive maneuvering.

Enhanced Familiar (This level seems a common time to improve previously acquired class features)
9th Level Feature
At 9th level, your mastery over the art of artifice extends to the enhancement of your familiar, allowing it to excel in various aspects. When you craft your familiar, you can choose one of the following options: Combined Utility, Enhanced Offense, or Enhanced Defense. Crafting a familiar in this way requires 50GP worth of the relevant material components, rather than 20)
Combined Utility:
With this option, you can combine the non-combat capabilities of two creatures into one familiar, creating a versatile and adaptable companion. By melding the essence of these creatures together, your familiar gains a range of utility features and abilities. For example, you can combine the bat and octopus to create a mechanical familiar that can fly, has blindsight, and can swim and breathe underwater. The familiar crafted through this option utilizes the higher ability scores and skill values between the two creatures, providing a powerful tool for exploration and problem-solving.
Enhanced Offense:
If you choose the Enhanced Offense option, your familiar gains a potent attack ability to aid you in combat. It gains the Miniature Fireball attack, which deals 2d8 fire damage in a 5-foot radius, requiring a Dexterity saving throw for half damage. The number of uses of this ability is limited to your proficiency bonus, uses are regained during a long rest. You can also use your bonus action to command the familiar to self-destruct, causing 3d8 fire damage to anyone within a 30-foot radius. You must have at least one use remaining and using this effect drops your Familiar’s Hit Points to 0.
Enhanced Defense:
With the Enhanced Defense option, you bolster your familiar's resilience and endurance. Your familiar gains additional hit points equal to your spellcaster level, making it more durable in combat. Furthermore, it gains the Relentless Endurance feature, allowing it to endure the most devastating blows. When reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, your familiar can drop to 1 hit point instead. This ability can only be used once and is regained after a long rest.

Artifice Mastery (Again made this one up from scratch, but tried to keep it balanced with other 15th level features)
15th Level Feature
At 15th level, your mastery over magical manipulation reaches new heights. You gain the following benefits:
Masterful Construction: When you create a construct using your Create Familiar feature, you can craft your familiar with two of the three options specified in the Enhanced Familiar feature. Crafting a familiar in this way requires 100GP worth of the relevant material components, rather than 20. Your familiar’s blocking reaction also has an increased range of 10ft.
Nullification Shield: Once per long rest, you can use your reaction to erect an arcane shield to absorb damage from an attack that makes a successful hit against you. This shield absorbs up to 5d10 points of damage before dissipating, any remaining non-physical damage is taken by you as normal. You can also cast this through your familiar if it is used to block an attack: doing this uses both of your reactions.

Eles eram tediosos sim, frequentemente me vi pulando pedaços do texto.
(Livro do Jogador, 3.5, pĂĄg. 23)

2023.05.29 22:33 isekaigametest [5e][LGBTQIA+ friendly][Asynch] ....Your character feels their life fade and wakes up in a new body, in an unfamiliar world... [3-5 players] [Isekai] [Mid-High Fantasy] [PST-ish]

(BTW, the following is just an example of how the isekai genre can begin, not necessarily how your character would enter the world. :) Just to set the mood!)
Your character rubs their eyes. It's been a tough week. They're tired, mentally and physically, after everything that went on. They couldn't sleep well on top of everything else. Their head is pulsing in annoyingly consistent waves of pain. They just want to get home.
They pause and rub their eyes for a moment, as they approach a corner on the sidewalk. They remove their hand from their face just in time to be met with a pair of truck headlights staring right back at them. There is a loud screech that shakes their entire body as the world seems to fade in an instant. Everything goes black...
In the darkness, they hear voices, see visions. It's so strange. This isn't what they thought death would feel like. It's like a dream, but everything feels so much more real and connected. Clearer than ever, and yet confusing and muddled at the same time.
Then they open their eyes.
It's blurry at first, but they can make out wooden rafters above their head. A thick, musty smell they don't really recognize. Strange. Their vision is so much sharper than it had ever been in their life. They lift their hand towards their face to rub their eyes...Wait. Is their skin...green?
Oh boy.
Hello!
I've been setting up a world for some time now and would like some players to test it out and force me to expand on it, hopefully, for a full, world-exploration campaign with an overarching plot seeking to find them all.
The idea would be that the characters are all from normal-ish earth, where they perished in one way or another, but rather than fade away fully into blackness and beyond -- they awaken into a strange new world in new bodies. For those who know anime-adjacent terminology, an isekai. (I should note, while I do enjoy some anime, this will be a lot more classic D&D type world than really anything anime-themed. I just feel the term encapsulates the idea succinctly.)
This game is meant to be what the players make of it. A sandbox of sorts, but with the plot slowly trying to find the bodies the players will be in. The world will be a medieval fantasy world, sort of similar to Faerun, in the amount of magic and technology available.
The bodies they will have in the new world will be made with D&D 5e rules, classes, and races. The bodies will not have any connection to the world they enter into -- they will have been made from seemingly nothing, but the races you choose will have roleplay consequences for your characters (though nothing that would be in RPGHorrorStories. Nothing like being discriminated against in literally every location.) The world is quite big and every region will essentially be different from the next. Nothing is homogenous.
That said, there will be in-game fantasy racism and other very unlikable things in certain regions, and none of that in other regions. But the goal is to find players whose powergame fantasy is where they face and try and change those things about the world and get to punch bigots in the face, and not to avoid those topics altogether. (Which, if that is your gaming goal, absolutely nothing wrong with that! That's just not what this campaign or world are set up for.)
As such, this will be a much more good-aligned, heroic-intended campaign. Neutral-ish characters you hope to have character development for will be considered as well, but no one who is going to try to get around it under the guise of "that's what my character would do". If they would, you and your character aren't welcome in this campaign, and I'm sure there's some great evil campaigns out there that'll suit you perfectly. But I don't want to run them.
There will be adult themes in this roleplay, so all players and characters must be adults. Chances for PC romance will be discussed with players and as a table to decide if it's a maybe/no. There will also be no unnecessary details, regardless -- should anything get that far, it will fade to black, period.
There will be a lot of homebrew spells, items, feats, races, and other things in the game. Despite this, I like to play close to RAW for rules and abilities for PCs. I will generally go outside of RAW in favor of the players and their creativity, usually offering check to do things they normally wouldn't be able to do with the RAW wording of their spells or abilities. I want my players to feel their characters get to be heroic/cool but also struggle with limitations.
I am aiming for a group of people who enjoy roleplay, exploration, puzzles, mysteries, NPC drama (or their own?) and some combat. I would say the goal is for a game to be 40-40-20 for roleplay-exploration-combat/circumventing combat.
Avrae Bot will be available for general rolls, but not for combat, due to the amount of homebrew things that will be available and used, and because I find the system not great for Reactions. Combat will be run much closer to how an in-person game would go.
I am hoping for players who will want to post 1-2 times a day and like to keep the game moving on their own or take time to roleplay with one another. I will try and be as responsive as possible, but you should feel comfortable rolling Perception, History, Religion, Arcana, or any other mental-based checks without having to ask me for permission beforehand (and you'll be able to do so in private channels with me if you don't want others to know your character's line of thought yet). Outside of an emergency, I'll be posting a minimum of once a day, and try to inform of emergencies quickly. The more people post and ask, the more I'll likely reply.
I'm also looking for players who are quite comfortable with the rules and how the mechanics work. Due to the amount of homebrew, extra abilities, and modifications the game will have, DnDBeyond will not really be a perfect option, and building a character sheet from scratch/with Gsheets will be better. If you struggle to understand where modifiers come from, this game may be a bad match for you.
As I'm building this world out, I may sometimes need a day or two, or even a week, to prepare a new section for everyone in the game, if the players really take to it. I will make sure to say out of character that I am pausing the game to do this (at least on my end; players won't be stopped from doing general roleplay with one another), and will continue the game on X day, rather than keeping everyone wondering. I will be keeping a Google Site for this game, where I will build and reveal sections as people explore, learn lore, and speak to NPCs, etc, and I will be drawing world maps, regional maps, and combat maps for it all, which can sometimes take time.
If you're still interested at all, please feel free to apply! Please note, this application is LONG and I will be asking for you to have a character concept in mind during it! Both for your body and your "soul". I will also have more info about me and my intent for the game in the application! I am really looking for people excited by the idea or exploring a new world and who hope for a long term campaign, so people who don't like reading about all this and getting on the same page probably shouldn't bother applying, as it's probably not your cup of tea.
As such, this application will remain open for at least three full days, to give people a day or two to think a bit first. You will want to at least open and read through it to think a bit if it's worth the trouble -- a lot of information will be in the application!
https://forms.gle/AsWaNymmRiBsGdLy5
I don't expect very many applicants, as this probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for those of you it is, I hope to set up a long-term, interactive, fun game!
If you still have questions after reading the application, please feel free to PM me on reddit!
Start date: 5/29/2023
Applications closing: 5/31/2023
Those chosen will be contacted: 06/01/2023-06/02/2023
If not enough players are found, these dates are subject to change until enough are lol

2023.05.29 21:55 Amorbius320 Minecraft crafting is glitched in my modpack and crashes.

I had recently made a modpack with the curseforge app 1.19.2 forge and it had been working fine for a while but as soon as i tried to add a few more mods the crafting table started to crash my game whenever trying to craft anything.
Those mods you see in the image are the new ones i had added that started this issue, i think as it had started to occur as soon as i added those, even then the issue still occurs when removed tho.
Here's a part of the latest log if it helps.

2023.05.29 21:36 LightningTalons [Online][PF2e][GMT][LGBTQPlus][18+] Looking for 3 more players to run Strength of Thousands for

Hey, my name is Liam (he/him), I'm 21, and I'm looking to run the Strength of Thousands Adventure Path for some fellow queer people. A friend of mine is already in the game, so with 3 more players we'll have a total of 4. Sessions will use Discord for voice and Foundry VTT for maps and dice rolling, with sessions happening on Tuesdays around 6pm GMT and running for 3 ish hours.
What is Strength of Thousands? Strength of Thousands is an adventure path/module that takes players from level 1 to level 20. The adventure takes place in and around the Magaambya, the greatest and oldest academy of magic in the world. Students are not confined to the campus, and are actually expected to explore, learn from, and share knowledge with, the wider world. Afterall, what good is learning magic if you do not use it to help people in need and help others learn with you?
Players will begin as prospective students and eventually become teachers at the academy with students of their own. As such, the adventure path takes place over a number of years and is very roleplay heavy. There is still a fair bit of exploration and combat, though, as the players get to explore the Mwangi Expanse (fantasy Sub-Saharan Africa, basically) and defend the school against the evil forces that try to destroy it.
It's also fairly long. I'm going to try to condense it down where I can because I like finished campaigns, but I'd expect there to be at least 50 or more sessions to get through it. Ideally players will be able to commit to the game for that long.
What is Pathfinder 2e? It's a d20 system that's a bit more complicated than D&D 5e, but is a lot better in my opinion. If you haven't played it (or any TTRPG) before, don't worry, we'll be going over the rules and character creation in a session 0. Also all of the rules are free to look through online which makes looking things up super easy.
How do I join??? Thank you for getting this far! If you're still interested in joining then please fill out this form or message me directly with your name, pronouns, age, and a bit about yourself. I will try my best to get back to everyone. --- Not important to the game, but just a note on the LGBTQPlus thing since I've had people message me about it in the past - I don't hate straight people (lmao), I just want to offer more games to LGBT people where they can play with other LGBT people and not have to worry about random people online potentially being bigotted. I apologize if this means you can't play in this game, but I'm sure you'll be able to find another one!

2023.05.29 21:32 adept42 Balancing a campaign with high AC monsters

I’m new to 5e and just ran my first session in a campaign in a homebrew steampunk setting. The PCs are starting at 1st level and are up against an evil empire whose soldiers use mechsuits to stomp all over the world. PCs can wear these suits as well with the appropriate background or feats. My idea is for the suits to be “platemail + additional benefits & drawbacks”. The only one I’ve introduced so far is a “Copperback” mechsuit that doesn’t have a min strength but confers vulnerability to fire and lightning.
What I didn’t realize is that this means most enemies will have 18AC and be far more vulnerable to spells than normal attacks. I’ve used the Hobgoblin and Animated Armor monsters as best I could to design low CR monsters with high AC. Another issue is that I’ve got 8 PCs; some are new to D&D, and some are veterans. Clever spell usage & combat tactics let them steamroll the first adventure, but I’m worried things could swing in the other direction or get stale. Any advise would be appreciated!

2023.05.29 21:10 9427 5e D&D DM looking for players

Moved to Warsaw recently, trying to put together players for a (free!) D&D game since that's the only way I know how to make friends at this point.
Requirements: Age 20-30 (I am 24) Good English (I don't know enough Polish) Tabletop experience does not matter, new players welcome (as long as you're at least a little queer)
The game would be set in my own world (which mostly adheres to the general conventions of a 5e D&D setting). I prefer to figure out the campaign's plot from the backstories of my players, but it will most likely be something skewed towards roleplay and not combat. I am not a professional DM, I don't have minis or hand-drawn maps, and I'm not particularly good at voices. However, the game is free (I get paid in social interaction, and possibly snacks)
I don't go on Reddit too often, so for faster replies contact me on Discord at 9427#6536. And also, if there's a better place I can post this, please let me know.

2023.05.29 20:17 TheAlexPlus Rime of the Frostmaiden: The Forever Winter - an Enhanced Icewind Dale Campaign [5e][Weekly][Wednesdays][6:30PM CDT][3+ Hours][Online][FoundryVTT][PAID][$15][2 of 5 seats open][Streamed]

Summer is cancelled and Icewind Dale is screwed unless you can figure out what the hell is going on...

Hello, my friends! My name is Alex. I've run this campaign twice before and I'm pretty excited to see what kind of horrible wackiness we can get up to this time around! This will be an above average experience if I can help it and I hope to make tons of friends along the way! If you're into roleplaying, jokes, subversion of expectation, mystery, whimsy, or simply "clownin' around", if you like Dimension 20 or anything Brennan Lee Mulligan or Emily Axford does, or if you're looking for a D&D game with a mix of goofy, weird, stupid, and serious with a splash of storytelling pizzazz, then this is the game for you!!!I recognize that this is supposed to be an overall serious campaign, and it is, don't get me wrong! But I'm a pretty wacky guy and this game will lean less on the harsh atmosphere and more into the interconnected story threads, personal plots if they arise, and the fear that something more powerful than you could be hiding around any corner. Utilizing Foundry VTT, I've been able to enhance the adventure with musical themes and sound effects for most scenes, automation, and animations for tons of spells, quest tracking, and several leveled maps with dynamically changing walls, lighting, and 3d vision calculation!
Icewind Dale Player Commercial
Let me tell you a bit about myself, though...
I come from a writing, directing, and video production background and have been putting these skills to good use at my digital gaming table for over 3 years now. I'm hoping I can apply the skills I'm good at to provide an above average experience to new and experienced players alike. I love to get into character and on top of accents here and there, I have my video feed switch to show images of significant NPCs when possible, not to mention all the music I have picked out for each unique encounter. I spend time picking from backstories and integrating fun easter eggs/story content for each player.
Overall, I'm a goofy guy, looking to land a joke whenever possible, but I have a knack for narrative thread and always set out to weave an interesting tale.
"...The overall value on your end was worth it, 100%. You ran an engaging, entertaining game and I enjoyed being one of your players." - Previous Player
"...This has been one of the best roleplaying experiences I've had!" - Current Player

The Abomination Vaults Adventure Path is a three-part series of connected adventures that comprise a complete Pathfinder campaign.
About GM:
Hi! My name is Vee! I've been running games consistently since 2018, mostly D&D 5e before I decided to change my focus on Pathfinder 2E. I enjoy systems that allow for good roleplaying and engaging tactical combat. I'm a chill GM who wants to see your character shine and do cool things. I enjoy watching players interact with each other and come up with their own solutions for my challenges. I like to stick to the rules as written unless the group decides otherwise.
About Game:
This campaign has already started and the characters are currently level 4 but we’re still on the first book of the Adventure Path. We are looking for 1 or 2 additional players. We play Monday at 7:30 EST.
Group consists of:Human Fighter (Rogue Archetype)Goblin Rogue (Scout Archetype)Leshy Druid (Herbalist Archetype)The current players are 5e veterans but are new to pathfinder, the group enjoys a fair amount of roleplay and character interactions and are very proactive, they like the complexity of the system but aren’t power gamers.
Sessions usually last a bit over 3 hours with a short break in the middle, payment is $20 sent through paypal before or after the session. Your first session is free.
This is a beginner friendly game, so if you haven’t played PF2E before I’m very comfortable in teaching the rules and how to make characters and I will keep providing assistance throughout the game whenever new features or mechanics are introduced.

2023.05.29 20:04 ShamrockEmu Rules-Light vs Heavy Crunch?

Seems a lot of people in here are focusing on rules-light style systems to some degree and I don't see a lot of high complexity systems talked about.
Mostly curious what the actual vibe is, so I guess just feel free to explain your reasoning for or against either style in comments (as DM or player, both perspectives are important)?
For context: I've been building a complex and highly tactical system where luck (dice) has a pretty low impact on results. To make it easy on players, I'm building a dashboard into the character sheet that does math for them based on their stats and organizes their options- but am still worried that I'm missing the mark since people online seem to be heading in the other direction of game design.
EDIT: Follow up: How do you define a crunch or complex system? I want to differentiate between a that tries to have a ruling for as many scenarios as possible, VS a game that goes heavily in-depth to model a desired conflict system. For example, D&D 5e tries to have an answer for any scenario we may reach. VS a system that closely models political scheming in a "Game of Thrones" style but has barebones combat, or a system that closely models magic from Harry Potter but is light on social and political rules. I'm more-so talking about the latter, I'll leave the comprehensive 500 page rulebooks to the big guys.

♫ Here we go, it's the lean green ninja team ♫
Many years ago, four baby turtles and a man named Hamato Yoshi were mutated in the sewers of New York City. These turtles became the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, taught the way of the ninja by Yoshi, also known as Master Splinter. After their mutation, the turtles would go on to protect the world and themselves from a variety of threats, including insidious mutants, invading aliens, and the Shredder, master of the evil Foot Clan.

2023.05.29 19:06 BTNewberg01 What are your favorite mechanics to balance the combat action economy?

I'm looking for suggestions to help balance the combat action economy between PCs and NPCs in a D&D-like game (so, d20 vs. AC to hit, etc.). D&D traditionally tries to compensate for PC action economy dominance by giving opponents dubiously-realistic benefits like a centaur getting 3 attacks for weapon/hoof/hoof (by the same logic, shouldn't a human get punch/punch/headbutt? LOL). 5E is less overt about it but still gives multi-attack to many creatures where it doesn't seem merited beyond human capabilities.
What are your favorite mechanics to balance this more sensibly? I'd prefer a relatively rules-light hack that avoids unnecessary rolling (like multiple attacks) or bookkeeping (like action points). Fast combat and simple rules are priorities for my game. Thoughts?

2023.05.29 19:06 Wolfrian [Online] [PF2e] [CST] Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and other grand adventures!

Introduction:
Hey everyone, I'm Charlie (20 y.o., he/him), and I'm looking for 4 players to run Pathfinder: Kingmaker 2e (or maybe something else, I'm easily persuaded!) for! This is going to be quite a long post, as I only want to filter through people I already know would be a great fit for the game, so please bear with me!
About You:
I'm looking for players with at least some experience in other somewhat crunchy d20 systems. DnD 5e, 4e, 3.5e, Worlds/Stars without Number, PF1e, Starfinder, d20 modern, 13th Age, anything OSR, etc. Experience in PF2e is greatly appreciated, but not necessary! As long as you get basic arithmetic, and how dice and modifiers work, you'll be good to go!
I'm looking for an enthusiastically inclusive table. I'm queer myself, and far too many people in the tabletop space are queer for there to be bigoted tables.
I'm looking for people between the ages of 18-30, but if you're above that, feel free to apply anyways! I will generally turn down people below the age of 18, however.
Important Stuff:
Ideally, we'll be playing once a week from about 6-11pm CST. This time can be negotiated slightly.
We will typically take a break halfway through, for some mental recharge and some dinnesnack/drink harvesting.
If we have a group that is overwhelmingly new to the Pathfinder 2e system, we will spend 2-3 sessions running the Beginner's Box with pregenerated characters.
If we are not entirely new to the system, we might run the Beginner's Box anyways! It's a great way to get to know your players and GM and is generally good fun.
We will be using discord for voice/video, and FoundryVTT for gameplay. I have not run a fully online campaign before, so this is a bit of new territory for me!
As noted in the note above, we will likely be using video in our games. It is not necessary for every moment and every session, but please only apply if you are comfortable with displaying video.
Please have a good mic and audio setup! There is far too much hassle that comes with constant crackling and cutting out.
About Me:
Throughout my 13 years of TTRPG experience, I've played a variety of games - from B/X, to 3.5, to 5e, to Lancer, to PbTA, to BitD, and now PF2e, which I've been playing in for about 2 years, and running for about 1.
The greatest thing I've learned with my experience is that the GM is ultimately a player too, with just a little bit more power. I love roleplaying and improv, I love tactical and crunchy combat, I love designing levels and creatures and stories, but most of all, I love collaborating with the brilliant people I meet at my tables, and throwing all pre-determined narratives and ideas to the side for the sake of which is novel and made at the table. TTRPGs are all about having fun and making shit up with a group of friends, and no matter what game or system or table we play at, I hope that we can achieve that.
Outside of this, I'm a huge music and film nerd. I'm current a student studying classical voice, and most of my time is divvied up between singing, watching movies, thinking about TTRPGs, and maybe playing some FFXIV.
That's all from me! If this all interests you, please fill out this form to give me an idea of what you're like and expect me to shoot you a DM in the near future so we can hang out and see if we vibe!
https://forms.gle/RASx62Pkjiwpib867
No matter where you end up, I wish you a good luck and godspeed on your ventures!

Hamato Yoshi, aka Master Splinter

"Remember, my son: everything you know I have shown you, but I have not shown you everything I know"
Hamato Yoshi was the master of the Hamato ninja clan in Japan when his entire life was turned upside-down. When the love of his wife, Tang Shen, came between them, Yoshi's old friend/rival Oroku Saki attacked him, accidentally starting a fire that killed both Tang Shen and Yoshi's daughter, Hamato Miwa. With nothing left for him in Japan, Yoshi left for New York City, where he purchased some baby turtles and was mutated alongside them. These turtles became the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, taught the way of the ninja by Yoshi, also known as Master Splinter. When Saki, now going by the moniker of the Shredder, discovered Yoshi was alive, he traveled to New York to put an end to their rivalry once and for all.

2023.05.29 18:20 Filthy-Mammoth [online][Heavily homebrewed 5e][PST] From Humble Farmers to possible War Heroes, will you respond to the Call to arms in the Far Reaches?

So first off, who am I?
Hello Reddit, I am Beau, am a 26 year old Guy from the Pacific northwest that has been DMing DnD 5e for 6 years, has been dabbling in other systems for the last 4, and has had Roleplaying games apart of my entire life thanks to my dad who was a veteran of a hobby since his his days in high school
I have a deep seated love of stories and storytelling, and I have found over the years that TTRPGs are some of the most Primal of storytelling mediums, tapping into the same energy and need for humanity to tell stories that our ancestors did around a campfire for centuries.
Like those ancestors around their campfire, those around the table tell a tale that is a mixing pot of different views and experiences, of yes and and no buts, of tears of both laughter and sorrow, of a connection to a story that only can be made when its your story. And that kind of connection is a powerful thing.
I love this hobby because I love stories and the way they are told, and I hope to at some point create a community of people that share that passion so that I can make many more stories for the years to come.
I know that was a lot, but I hope knowing that about me will help you understand the kind of game I am trying to run.
Next, a intro to the setting and then some info about the campaign:
Farreach is a land cold and unforgiving, those that do not respect it quickly die. be it from man, beast, or nature.
Since the gods died in the event of world’s crux Farreach has, like the rest of the world, been broken apart, small villages and city states dot the land fending for themselves over the years as the ruins of the old world lay lingering as a memory of what once was thousands of years before.
But this is all about to change.
A young man, a Certain Peter Lebedev, has claimed to be the heir to the Throne of the Far Reaches that sits in the ruins of the old capital Alevichi. He shares the name of those once mighty Czars that ruled the land before World Crux, and using it he has called upon ancient rights and Alliances to Take back the old Empire with the help of the Sorcerous Dwarves of Blackspire,
From the Ruins of Alevichi hidden behind the Northern mountains and Dwarven Strongholds of the North Peter plans to retake his birthright, be it through force or diplomacy.
But not all accept his rule.
To the South in the fertile valleys that make many Farmlands sits the city state of Reusta, here a Rebellion is Brewing. a group of like minded people that care not for the idea of being ruled over and wish to keep their independences. While they do not have the resources of the Dwarves they have the food to feed an army and the call of the defense of freedom to rally men behind.
They will push out this so-called Czar and establish an order, a republic, where each town is free to do as they see best for them and not be under the thumb of one man.
And So a civil war brews between these two, the Torm sit to the north watching their southern neighbors fight and the villages between these two factions will be caught in the crossfires.
Including the Town of Whitefield.
It is a simple place, home to only 300 or so souls. fields of white wheat grow in abundance, children play in the streets and elders groan about the on coming cold of the harsh winters. Here is were those that will one day be called great call home. Simple folk that have done little more than live in this blessed place do not realize that soon fate will come marching to their doorstep and call them to greatness.....
So what is Farreach?
Farreach is one place in the homebrew setting of Tanriszdir that I have been working on for the past 3 years. This campaign will be the 2nd campaign I have ran in this setting with many more planned in the future.
I made Farreach as a place due to my love of Folklore and fairy tales and I had been playing the Witcher and looking into the stories and culture of the Slavic people at the time of creation, naturally it bleed into the world I was making.
In farreach you will find Dark Taiga Forests, frost covered mountains and sub-zero tundra. But warmer weather can be found to the south with rolling fields, Marshy bogs and Clay filled hills. Farreach is a harsh but beautiful land that only the strong survive and thrive in, will your character make their mark in this rugged wilderness dotted with small villages? Or will you be lost to the trees and that which lurks within them?
What is this campaign about?
Farreach is a place on the cusp of a massive social and political change, 2 factions, the Empire trying to reform and the independents trying to keep their own freedoms and cultures alive, buttheads as they try to take over the north to shape it in their own image. This story isn't so much about one side vs the other however, yes you can if you want to join one of the sides in the war, or even make your own 3rd faction, this campaign is less about the war itself and more the people being affected by it. The day to day people that have to deal with a war looming over them as they try to etch out a life in a cold unforgiving landscape filled with monsters of all kinds. The players will be starting as level 0 commoners dealing with small scale problems and will find themselves burdened with more and more responsibilities as they prove themselves to be the ones most capable of taking care of the North’s problems.
What are the Players' roles in this campaign?
The players, and the party at large, are Hope. They are hope that things will get better, that life will get just a bit less shitty, that everyone will get to go home to their families at the end of it all.
Because of this I as the DM will test and attempt to snuff out this hope constantly. PCs and NPCs alike can and will die if the dice will it, horrible things will happen to good people, bad people, and neutral people, children are at just as much risk as everyone else. And there will be a give and take of consequences constantly as every action the party, and the NPCs around them take, will mold the world around them for both the better and the worse.
This is not a campaign for the faint of heart, it's not a game of heroes that never fail or who will always win in the end. It's about being the embodiment of hope in a world with very little of it, of never giving up hope while everything around you tries to snuff it out. It's about moving forward no matter what because you have hope that things will turn out well in the end.
I know all that sounds fairly dramatic, but fuck it am a drama queen, it will get you a clue of what your in for if you join the game. That and I've had players I've tried to run this game with before assume that the hardships I would send their way was me just trying to tpk them and wouldn't even try, ironically enough losing hope despite being the ones who were supposed to embody it.
What kind of game is this?
I would say that it is an Open sandbox Dark fantasy, there is some hex crawling and a lot of what direction things go is mostly on the Players and their actions.
Some people would say that my games are Grim Dark, but I'd personally say that Grimdark is a shade too dark for what I try to achieve in my games. That said of course the games I run do get fairly dark and will go places that are uncomfortable at times, make sure you are ok with that if you want to join, and feel free to ask me directly what kind of themes I expect to see
What does this game do different from regular dnd 5e?
My games are heavily homebrewed, to the point I can't put all of the changes here and instead made a doc that I will later link that is full of rule changes and tweaks that I will be using. Consider this less 5e proper and more 5e adjacent
The Party will be starting at level 0 instead of level one as commoners and will have to come into their own (I suggest coming to the table with a couple extra character concepts on the off chance something really bad happens)
This Game will go from level 0 to level 10, maybe 12. This is not a story of high powered super people and is instead made for more down to earth low level characters.
All player characters will start from the same home town and will all know each other to a certain extent, this isn't a group of strangers coming together as it is a group of people that already know each other in at least passing
This Game will be connected to another game I am running, to help simulate the movements of the war around the PCs as they have their adventures I have 2 friends playing a board game of my creation to help give the game a more natural backdrop of events, things will happen that even I the DM can't always expect.
What can I as a Player expect from you, the DM?
A well built world that I have spent years making
A willingness to let things happen that can change the course of the game and the world as a whole moving forward into other campaigns
A genuine interest in telling a story and a desire to see your characters grow over the course of the campaign
Difficult combat, min maxing not required but common sense and tactics are
Difficult choices, this campaign is not a black and white campaign of good vs bad
A sense of humor, life isn't all death and darkness
a rehaul or creations of rules as needed to help tell the kind of stories I aim for.
a willingness to bend to rule and to use the “rule of cool” but still being able to use the rules
What do you as a DM expect from me as a player?
A willingness to take the world seriously
Not poking at the rules of the game to exploit them or disclaim a lack of realism
Respect for me and the other players at the table
To make a character that is grounded in the setting and type of story trying to be told
A willingness to roleplay and to be your character in the world
A willingness to let bad things happen if your actions or the dice lead to an impossible situation
A Willingness to still more forward with the game even as Bad things happen to your character(s)
The Ability to commit to the game long term, my games take time
The Ability to take initiative, taking plot hooks that interest you, or exploring to find others that do (mostly don't stand around waiting for me to tell you what to do)
Am fine with all of this, how do I sign up and when is the game?
The Game will take place Sundays starting the Earliest at 9am pst and going as late as 3:30pm pst, the exact time will be decided once the group is put together but it will be sometime around then
I have 2 people that want to play already and I am looking for a maximum of 4 more players
The Game will take place on roll20, discord and a good mic is required to play
Read this quick Lore Blurb to get a basic understanding of the campaign world and your characters place into it
Setting Primer
Read, or at least skim, through this Document, it is filled with rule changes to the game I am running, these are not minor changes and should not be ignored when deciding if you want to play
Homebrew Doc
Fill out this application, it is a mix of personality test, confirmation that you understand what kind of game your getting into, and information for how to contact you
Application
This Application will be up until the I find players I think I can gel with. Once I have found people I will close the application, if you can enter an application there is still a chance you can get in.

2023.05.29 18:04 maethalion [Offline][5e][Flexible][Rockville][Maryland][Biweekly][Saturday] Long-term GM wanting to get back to playing in person.

Hi all, long-time GM here looking to find some IRL peeps to game with.

When, Where:

I'm looking to game locally to Rockville, MD every-other Saturday (starting June 17), probably 4 hours. I can't host, so it'll need to be at a local game store or other place until someone feels comfortable enough to host.

GM Style

My style is based on videogames like Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Neverwinter, The Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout, Darkest Dungeon, Mass Effect, Hades, Wytchwood, Citizen Sleeper, Pillars of Eternity, Kingmaker, Stardew Valley, Cult of the Lamb, Diablo, XCOM, Thea, Defender's Quest, Moonlighter, Far Cry, Shadowrun, Dishonored and other computer RPGs. I tend to set up the world, factions, powers, etc. and let the PCs play in it. I prefer more character-driven stories and adventure, narrative and fiction-focused, rather than strictly RP or Combat. I generally like to get character backstories, grab NPCs to be antagonists, and interweave the PCs backgrounds to make interesting stories and drive motivation.
I'm not a professional voice actor nor am I going to spend hours meticulously planning dungeons. It'll be somewhere in-between. I also try to leave down-time in between sessions, so that PCs can create stories and we can do some role-play in text on discord. (I can do better RP when I have time to think and get in character)

Game Tone

I can do anything from gritty to silly, as long as we're all on the same page. Don't bring a goblin wearing pink slippers to a survival horror game, and don't bring a chaos marine to help a crow find its lost pebble.
My games tend to run PG-13, with a few exceptions for horrogore/violence. I don't tend to run with any other "adult" themes as I'm a crusty 40 yr old guy and it's weird.

Games I'm willing to Run

While I'm most familiar with D&D 5e, I'd love to run literally ANY of the other RPGs I've got:
If we do run 5e, I'll want to house rule it to fit my GM style. It'll be stuff that's in the DMG or well-tested by other groups or youtubes. We'll decide on house rules before we make characters.

Character Backgrounds

I generally prefer everyone to write up new characters during session 0. This is because I prefer to start games with the PCs already friendly, knowing, and working with eachother. It can be hard to shoe-horn the OC you've spent months thinking about into a new game setting with half a dozen other people all with their own OCs.
Similar to Game Tone, I prefer to have all the PCs to have the same motivation, be it Heroic, Reluctant, Mercenary, etc. as this creates better team cohesion. And no lone wolf characters please.

Safety Tools

We absolutely will be using safety tools, especially since it'll be a new group of people. I prefer to collect people's Lines and Veils anonymously prior to session 0, so I'll send out a google form once we have enough people. We can discuss specifically which tools to use once we meet.

Contact

Please fill out this Google Form and I will reach out over Discord to establish contact, and update on number of players found. I likely wont meet until we have 3 or 4 players.
