Just a thought (that and I was in Vegas last Summer and swore I'd never go again--that place is a pit IMHO).

My son is turning 1 soon and then we’re moving very soon after. My husband and I are both military and we’re moving to San Diego in September and my sons birthday is August 12. we don’t have family near us rn but we will see them when we’re driving through, but that’s like weeks after his birthday. Even though he doesn’t know it’s his birthday, I know it’s his birthday and I want to celebrate his day on his day. I was just wondering what are good ideas of celebrating as just a family of 3 and what are cool small sentimental gifts I can get him because I don’t want to buy a big thing to then have to pack it up and move it across the country (I was planning on buy him big gifts once we get settled)

My boyfriend (28m) and I (30f) met online. At the time, we lived 14 hours apart. There was a strong connection and we talked for 6+ months before we decided to give it a serious try. We have been together for 4 years now. The first year, we managed dating long distance. I then made the decision to move in with him and it was rough at first. I come from a very large and very close family and this was the first time that anyone had moved away. It was difficult for me to be so far from them to say the least. I had no friends out there, no relatives even close by, and the group of friends he had at the time were enabling his drinking and substance abuse, which caused lots of tension in our relationship and left me feeling isolated.
Eventually we figured it out. We started making some changes and working towards our goals and I really came to enjoy this new city. I had a good job close to home and made good friends with coworkers. He dropped his old friends, quit the substances, and got ahold of his drinking. He finally began pursuing his hobbies and ended up making lots of supportive friends in this new scene he had become a part of, which welcomed me with open arms as well. However, after two years of living together, he told me that he was unhappy. He hated his job, was not getting along with his family (they aren’t very close and there has always been tension and strong disagreements between them), and he was needing a change.
At first, our plan was to move to a neutral city that is equal distance between both of our hometowns. One night during our planning, he told me he thought it would be a good idea for us to move back to the city that I’m originally from. Despite how much I missed my family, I was not immediately on board with moving back. He seemed excited at the possibilities though, and after a lot of discussion, eventually we agreed to drop our plan of a neutral city in favor of moving to my hometown. We’ve been living here for a year now and it’s been great to be back with my family. They all love him! He gets along so well with my brother and my cousins, and constantly tells me how much he likes them and appreciates being a part of a “real” family.
Last night however, he confessed to me that he is unhappy. He has tried to continue his hobby out here, but the people are not as supportive, and it’s been 5 months since he even tried. There’s also a bit of a language barrier where he works, and he hasn’t been able to make very good friends. He misses his friends back in his hometown as well as the support that his hobby gets. I would not be immediately opposed to moving back if this is what he thinks would make him happy, but after two years of being away from my family when I first moved, I realize how much time I lost.
My grandmother seems so much older now. She’s dealing with several health issues and I know my time with her is limited. My nieces and nephews have all grown so much and I’ve missed out on a lot of bonding time. Our family has finally been getting back to having our traditional Sunday dinners regularly again after Covid put a stop on everything. It’s been so nice to enjoy this time together. I’m lost at what to do, but I can’t say that I don’t see where he’s coming from. I want him to be happy, but I also want to be near my family, and I don’t want to have to sacrifice our relationship in order for both of us to have what we want. Is there any way that I can have my cake and eat it too? 😞
tl;dr - Two years after moving in with my boyfriend (14 hours away from my family), he became unhappy and we decided to move back to my hometown together. Now a year later, he is unhappy once again and wants to move back, but I don’t want to have to leave my family.

Okay so my main issue is with render distance and 'clarity', but extra FPS would be a nice bonus.
One major problem is I can't see anything in 1.20 Vanilla while flying above the nether roof, I have to resort to f3/f5 to assure myself I'm not rapidly falling/soaring down to my death. Can these all be addressed using the 1.20 Sodium? Or anything of the like which can be (safely) downloaded at the moment?

Edit: Maybe I can use an older version of OptiFine (1.20 snapshot)? Or will this get in the way of new chunk generation? I'm confused since yes it's just a mod, but the game launcher makes me select between 'Latest Release - 1.20' or 'OptiFine 1.19' for example.

Ok, so right now for my band I do the recording on my electronic drum set. However, due to it being so different from a full size kit, I can hardly do anything harder than a classic rock - like beats, and add absolutely no technique. I'm planning on selling it (I could probably pull in around $150 or $200), and buying drum mics. So, what are some good drum mics under $300. I know, that is quite the limiter. The first question would be new or used? I'm thinking it would be much better to buy the mics used, because that would cost so much less. But are there any red flags with that. And then - what are specifically some good mics that would sound good under 300. I'm thinking I will buy a 7 mic kit then expand accordingly - I have 2 crashes, a ride, hi hat, snare, 2 bass drums, and 5 toms (although I usually only use 4). I will be recording playing hard and using 2b drum sticks, if that makes a difference. Some things to note: I have my hi hat loose and sloshy, and drums tuned so that there isn't very much resonance. I don't know if there's anything else to take into consideration. I need the sound to be pretty high quality, but not amazing. Just average; it will sound good in a song with all the other instrumental parts as well. needs to be crisp. That's pretty much the only thing that is super important to me. Also another question, could I use one mic for my ride and 2nd crash? They are right next to each other, and obviously the crashes will be lower in the mix anyways. I would appreciate any help. Some background... I (34F) am in an LDR with my boyfriend (40M), we planned and booked our next visit around 3 months ago for me to fly from UK to CA,US on June 16th and since the last time we met up we had quite an expensive trip to San Diego, I asked for a more home based trip to save money and just to spend some quality "live-in" time together if we are going to close the gap eventually.
Anyway, shortly after I booked the trip he told me his Mum's birthday is at the end of June (after I leave) and she wants to do a trip to the Grand Canyon with him and his 2 older kids (18 & 16), only problem was, when she wanted to go, clashed with my visit but I was invited to come along. I was slightly annoyed as I wanted to save money this time but it is the Grand Canyon and I have never been before so I agreed to go and pay a share of $400.
I have been excitedly telling everyone about going and was actually looking forward to it. So, less than a week ago he texts me and tells me about Yosemite (it looks beautiful!) and suggested a day trip, to which I was fine with... except his mum also wanted to tag along -_- After sensing my annoyance he reassured me that she wanted to do a separate hiking trail and we'd be alone. Cool, no problem. Let's do it.
So fast forward to today... he calls me and mid conversation excited told me "Oh by the way, plans have changed". I was like "huh?" He said we are no longer doing the Grand Canyon and are instead doing a 5 day trip to Yosemite with aforementioned mum and 2 older kids. It immediately ruined my happy demeanour and I just didn't want to talk to him after that.
My reasons for being annoyed are;
- I was not consulted or asked about this, I am a single mum so this trip is also my holiday and I feel I have no control over it
- Is this going to cost me more money which I already didn't want to spend
- My trip is 11 days in total but 2 will be travel days involving 11 hour flights so with this trip now being 5 days instead of the 3 to the Grand Canyon it now leaves me 4 days with my boyfriend
- I feel I am backed into a corner because if I kick up a stink, it is ruining everyone else's trip, especially if cancelled and I am feeling guilty for that and also, since this is the first time I am meeting his mum, is this going to leave a bad first impression?
He got the feeling I wasn't in a good mood and just finished our call with "Well you clearly don't want to talk to me so I will talk to you later" and hung up.
I just feel so angry but AITA for feeling this way? Am I overreacting?

Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show The Little Mermaid on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

Unfortunately, The Little Mermaid is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release

I found interesting research on the privacy impacts of eye tracking (e.g., https://link.springer.com/chapte10.1007/978-3-030-42504-3_15).
Here just an excerpt:

Our analysis of the literature shows that eye tracking data may implicitly contain information about a user’s biometric identity, gender, age, ethnicity, body weight, personality traits, drug consumption habits, emotional state, skills and abilities, fears, interests, and sexual preferences. Certain eye tracking measures may even reveal specific cognitive processes and can be used to diagnose various physical and mental health conditions.

It is astonishing how many different parameters eye trackers can capture at once. The papers says:

In addition to the spatial dispersion, duration, amplitude, acceleration, velocity, and chronological sequence of eye movements, many eye trackers capture various other eye activities, including eye opening and closure (e.g., average distance between the eyelids, blink duration, blink frequency), ocular microtremors, pupil size, and pupil reactivity.

I find it mind-boggling to imagine the amount of sensitive insights that machine learning algorithms can draw from such data.
Given that eye tracking is on the rise in various industries, it would be important to address such privacy impacts on a regulatory level. However, considering that tech giants are already collecting so much data about us and drawing inferences all the time, the question is: How much will eye tracking increase privacy intrusion by tech companies beyond today's level?

I've finished season 2 and here's some interesting stuff I noticed: 1) In the opening scene after having killed Naquib, Black Noir waves a stuffed animal to the face of a child before leaving. Last time I saw this I thought it was just a generic attitude of I am not the bad guy but after seeing season 3 I'd be curious to know if he thought the animal was comforting the child;

2) You can clearly see some Liberty comics while Hughie is leaving the hideout; 3) The first time Stormfront meets HL she gets close to him and says *your eyes are pretty fucking blue uphere* which is a cool forshadowing of her telling him he was the perfect man they expected to lead them 4) While talking to HL (episode 3) Stan Edgar mentions how John Vought switched sides in 1944. Considering Soldier Boy officially stormed Normandy (6.6.44) his creation and testing must have been pretty quick 5) **About Annie's father** in season 1 episode 6 she tells Hughie he was *all corny jokes and expensive gifts and all of a sudden he was gone with all their money*. In episode 2×04 she tells MM *Every Sunday he took her to Dunkin Donuts, he bought her a cupcake and asked her about her life. *and he would listen l** (on the contrary we've seen in season 1 her mother did not listen and encouraged her to be bulimic). So Either Starlight is lying to score conversation points or there is **plot inconsistencs right here** 6) In episode 6 Cindy (the telekinetic mutant kept Sage Grove) crushes some guards. I **hope in a fight between her and Newman**(who blows up people from the inside out 7) After the Alt-right fan murders the shop owner Stormfront and HL tell the crowd they distance themselves from his actions and will *make a donation to Samaritan Embrace* which is pointless and kind of ridiculous since we've seen in season 1 how Voughts uses it 8) When Noir gets hospitalized after the fight with Maeve it is said that *it doesn't seem he has brain damage but it's hard to tell*. After season 1 we know it's because his brain was already damaged in the first place. 9) **Hughie and Starlight personalities in season 3 seem switched** after episode 8 (minute 9) 10) **We can see the first time Ashley pulls out her hairs**. It's in episode 8 after she was alone with Ryan probably scared by a *child HL* (him not acting like a brat opposed to his father must have been a weird as fuck experience) 11) After Becca is wounded by Ryan she tells Butcher *it's not his fault. You make sure he knows that. He's good. He's good...* Well... Guess what angry Butcher tells Ryan? Yeah, exactly that. HL on the other hand tells Ryan something so close to Becca that I am genuinely questioning whether he was listening to her dying words from a distance 12) There's a difference between Maeve threat in season 2 and Starlight in season 3. Starlight is trying to stop HL. Maeve is just pointing out she will destroy him if he attacks. The difference is just that HL going on a rampage would make impossible getting Ryan back but will submit Starlight

im only 19 but i met this guy thru social media about 6 months ago, and we started gaming together constantly. we became such good friends at first and then eventually started flirting. he lives a few states away, but we always facetime everyday for hours either talking or just being in eachother's presence. we also were able to meet up and being in person with eachother was so amazing. we also spent a week together, but it's been completely long distance since. we are exclusive, but not officially "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" which i think is okay because we are taking it slow. i am terrified of ruining things with him because i feel like i already love him. i haven't felt this way about a guy since i was 16, and there's just this deep connection between us. it hurts so much that i can't see him in person all the time. i daydream alot about living with him and i could never imagine myself ever wanting someone else the way i want him. idk i just wanted to say this somewhere.

We are neither rich nor poor, our financial stability primarily relies on our dad (55M). My mom (50F) works in an office, but unfortunately, her salary is comparable to what a student earns at McDonald's... Consequently, I believe it should be my dad's responsibility to handle the financial matters. But my dad's temperament has made him somewhat unpopular within the family. His hot-headedness and aggression often resulted in physical altercations and frequent outbursts, which made us to spend more time with mom. As we grew older, this made us distant. Personally, I've become self-reliant and independent, not needing their attention, and often feeling uncomfortable when they express affection towards me. I think my sister feels similarly, but a lot of the time we just can't figure out what she wants. She often feels embarrassed by our parents, yet once she cried because our dad unexpectedly attended her performance (without her knowing), and she cried because he was late??? (he had work to do😑). While I used to have a strong bond with my mom, things have changed over time. I also find her behavior annoying at times. Some people on the internet claim it may be due to anxiety, which can occasionally lead to aggression. I am working on changing this. I mention this because both my sister and I went through a phase of teenage rebellion, which was challenging for our parents to handle. The difference is that I managed to grow out of it, thanks to realizing how awful I was among other teenagers. I did a lot of research and self-reflection, I thought about a lot of what is wrong with me and how did I end up like this, resulting in personal growth and positive feedback from others, which made me very proud. I also just accepted that my parents are also people, and parents for the first time and it's not easy for them but I think they try their best. But I feel like my sister had no time for self-reflection because she is popular, and she is stuck, with many problems in her head. I feel like she blames others and listens to her angry music until she calms down..
Therefore, due to my mom's people-pleasing nature and my dad's emotional distance, we inadvertently became controlling. (Because dad tries to spend more time with us he tries to act more like mom, so we have two parents who says yes to a lot of things) Now my sister has "big plans" in her head. It's nearly impossible to have a serious discussion with her because she either becomes angry or starts crying. She frequently makes poor decisions, like wanting to move to a big city and attend university again (despite previously failing). This has led to arguments between my dad and mom. My dad refuses to pay for it, considering it foolish given the country's inflation and various issues. On the other hand, my mom, who has no interest in politics or the city in question (unlike my dad, who lived there), now sees him as the bad, unintelligent person. It seems she lives in a box where everything revolves around flowers and the happenings of our village. I can't comprehend how she thinks she's right. Currently, she sleeps at her mom's place to avoid facing the situation until my dad calms down and gives in (as always...)
What frustrates me even more is that my mom just doesn't believe me sometimes, even when I have proof. She simply dismisses it and sticks to her own foolish plan. It's not about my sister, for example I was talking to her about rice weevils and how they get into the packaging and how to solve the bug problem but she just doesn't care, even tho I sent her articles and pictures about it. I feel like my sister has essentially turned her into a slave, and she doesn't even realize it. They avoid discussing serious matters because my parents fear her anger or sadness. I'm at a loss. My hysterical sister is recklessly spending our money, and I can already see her returning home months later, angry at us. She's living in a dream world, constantly buying expensive and unnecessary items, driving the car without permission (resulting in high gas costs), getting her nails done, and behaving like a celebrity. I don't know if this helps imagining our money but when she wanted an iphone so bad he made dad angry and distant for weeks because it's was so expensive for us, but at least my sister finally became happy for a short time. The problem is that it's never enough, there's always something..... and I'm pretty sure she will fail in the university. I can already see her coming home, being angry at the whole world and being in her room for days.
Even if my dad refuses to financially support her, I'm certain my mom will secretly do so. What can I do without making anyone my enemy? I don't want to remain silent. If my sister won't listen to my dad, she'll only resent him more. My mom does nothing to address the issue and tries to keep the peace, which clearly isn't working. She fails to acknowledge the problems, which is incredibly frustrating. I feel like I'm watching everything fall apart, and I strongly believe that I need to take action rather than ignore these issues.
TLDR: Our family's financial stability depends on our dad but his opinion is not important to my sister at all, her irresponsible spending and unrealistic plans cause conflicts while my mom tries to avoid conflict, but always works as a shield to protect my sister. And I'm just here, not knowing what to do.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the abysmal parking situation at the Dead and Company shows this summer.
As a dedicated fan of the band and a frequent concertgoer, I have historically held LiveNation in high regard for its commitment to providing enjoyable and memorable live music experiences. However, the recent parking ordeal has left me and many other fans utterly dissatisfied!
I attended several Dead and Company shows this summer, including the performances at Phoenix, Arizona.
Unfortunately, the experience of getting into the parking lots was nothing short of a nightmare. Many fans were left to endure long hours of waiting in traffic on the freeway, with some never even making it into the show. It was disheartening to witness people being forced to abandon their vehicles on the freeway ramp and walk long distances of a mile or two just to reach the venue!
Furthermore, the waiting time to enter the venue itself was an ordeal in its own right. Fans were made to endure multi-hour queues, standing under the scorching sun with no shade or protection from the elements. This lack of consideration for the well-being of your patrons is deeply troubling. It not only poses a risk to their health and safety but also undermines the overall concert experience that LiveNation is renowned for.
Adding to the unpleasantness of the parking experience was the severe shortage of restroom facilities!
In Phoenix, for instance, a venue that accommodates thousands of concertgoers, only a couple of portable toilets were provided. This inadequate provision of toilets is unacceptable and disrespectful to your customers. It is unreasonable to expect a large crowd, who have been sold copious amounts of beverages, to endure such discomfort and resort to relieving themselves between parked cars. This is not only unsanitary but also demonstrates a lack of planning and consideration for the basic needs of your attendees.
I strongly urge LiveNation to address these issues promptly and take necessary steps to rectify the parking situation at Dead and Company shows. Here are a few suggestions that I believe would greatly improve the overall experience:
Open the facilities and parking lots earlier: By extending the opening hours, you can alleviate traffic congestion and allow fans to enter the venue in a more organized and timely manner.
Provide adequate restroom facilities: Ensure that there are a sufficient number of clean and accessible toilets to cater to the needs of the concert attendees. This will enhance the comfort and hygiene standards of your events.
Implement effective traffic management strategies: Work in conjunction with local authorities to develop efficient traffic management plans, reducing congestion on the freeways and ensuring smooth entry into the parking lots.

Captain Vohr’Doe was waiting in the hangar as Kahv’Hosh set the shuttle down, a slew of emotions raging inside her, all vying to be the leading sentiment. Though, she - of course - would probably have to lean more towards 'gratitude’, if made to pick a single one. She was more than grateful that her crew were no longer in danger - and yes, that even included him - and that those pirates were no longer a threat to anyone else, either.
And then there was the obvious awe at the humans had weaponized gravity; she had heard the horror stories of what could happen if a gravity plate malfunctioned - she had to have electrical replace the ones in the gym just a few days ago, as Kyle had pushed them up to 15G in his training - but to actually use it as a weapon?...
And, of course, there was an overwhelming amount of anger. Well, maybe not anger, per se; but there wasn’t really a word for the feeling between extreme frustration, and anger. What kept her from completely registering it as anger was her wholehearted belief that he had good intentions for having something so destructive on board her ship. But that only just tempered the vexation she felt at him having smuggled a gravity bomb onto her ship! Not only that, but there were two crates that had been marked as ‘gravity generators’, which she had initially assumed were for his comfort, to put his room - or possibly his campsite - to a more comfortable gravity. But she could see now how very wrong she was.
As the door to the shuttle opened, she watched first Admiral Shane, then Kahv’Hosh exit the craft. Kyle exited after a delay of a few seconds, and after sweeping the hangar with his gaze, he lowered it when it met her’s, looking for all intents like her nephew when he gets caught doing something he shouldn’t, and - not for the first time - an almost motherly feeling came over her. Which wasn’t so far out of the question, seeing as - according to the data provided on them - humans were by far the shortest-lived people in Galactic Records, where the shortest-lived species after them - the rahv’oyeck - averaged around 500 years, give or take a few decades.
Not to mention the fact that - for however short a time, he was a part of her crew, and as such, she instinctively felt protective of him, the fact that - as his captain - she was responsible for him notwithstanding. Plus, he really did seem to be almost ‘childlike’ at times, with a simple - almost naive - attitude towards the goings on around him. Not that he was clueless when it came to interacting with others; as many of the crew had come to find out, apparently.
But it was his obvious contrition that tempered her attitude, so that when they had made their way over to her, it had simmered down to intense irritation. Once they were standing before her, Kyle finally looked up to meet her gaze, and she felt her heart soften further at the expression on his face; not that she would let him know that, of course.
“Would you care to explain yourself, Mr. Redding?” she asked, being sure to keep the edge to her voice; she couldn't be seen as ‘soft’.
“I didn't know that they were sending it,” he began quickly, ”I only found out about it after I got to my equipment room, the first time.”
“Them,” she replied, and at his confused look, continued,
“Them; plural: there were two crates listed under ‘gravity generators’, and they were both the same size. I don't believe that the other one actually contains gravity plates stacked up; not this time.”
Kyle gave a look of understanding, and she believed that he really did momentarily forget about the other one.
“Right,” he said, “Two. Yeah, I didn't know they were gonna send them…”
“And afterward, it never occurred to you to tell me that you had two bombs on board that could make this entire ship - and everyone on board - become one dense atom?!” A little more edge crept into her voice than she would have liked at that moment. It was Admiral Shane, however, who answered; taking a step forward, he cleared his throat.
“Captain, if I may?...” It was the respect - the deference - in his voice that gave her pause, and helped to calm her thoughts a bit. She nodded in affirmation, and he continued,
“What would happen to us - in the immediate sense - if this ship were to lose all power right now; primary, and emergency backup power?”
The question seemed so random, that her mind basically blanked out, and she found herself saying the first thing that came to her mind.
“We would all begin floating, seeing as the artificial gravity would be out, as well.”
“Precisely,” he continued, “And short of directly supplying power to the artificial gravity, how could we get the plates to work?”
She began to understand his point.
“I see where this is going, Admiral, but unless I’m very much mistaken, there were no ports on that box that would accept any power crystals with the required energy to fuel that miniature black hole. Which means that it had power the whole time.”
“That's true,” he said in a mollifying tone, “But the power to the core was disconnected, and needed a code that would cause even an A.I. trouble hacking it, as it's a 300,000-page code, randomly coded in every written language known to humankind. There are even symbols in the code that don't show up on the screen, if someone were to try to hack it manually; an A.I. is needed to even crack the code within a year. And only Kay’Eighty has the codes for those two programmed into her memory.
“So,” he concluded, “While I agree entirely with you that he should have let you know about them, I can give you my word - on behalf of the honor of all humans - that no amount of damage could cause an accidental activation. While I won't say that the other one is harmless, I can assure you that there is no chance of it going off by accident. However, I won’t hesitate to take it off of your ship, if you so desire.”
She took a moment to digest everything that Admiral Shane said, and eventually came to a conclusion.
“No, I’ll allow him to keep it on the ship; I would say that there's likely never going to be a reason that we would need it, but I would have said the same thing this morning, and we can all see how wrong that was.”
“If you like,” Kyle offered, “We could attach it to like, a missile, or something, and Kay’Eighty could give you a data chip with the code for it.”
She thought for a few seconds, then nodded.
“That sounds acceptable; but what if we need it detached?”
“She can attach it to the outside on a molecular level with her nanobots, and detach it the same way.”
She nodded her head, and then sighed.
“Well, I won't pretend that I’m not happy about the way this all played out; still, I’m just glad their cargo holds and brigs showed no signs of life. At least we didn't send any innocents to their doom with that ploy. You could have at least told me what it was when I asked you why you needed the scan of the pirate ships in the first place.”
“Yeah,” he replied in that casual tone of voice that she would tolerate from few others, further enforcing that matronly feeling over him, “But we didn't have time for you to be pissed off at me, then… But - for the record - I am sorry for not telling you; I should have let you know a lot sooner.”
She gave him the sternest look she could muster in that moment, and replied,
“I’ll accept your apology if - and only if - you let me examine this fruit tree of yours.”
Kyle's face brightened, and a wide smile appeared as he said,
“Of course; you could've come seen it any time.”
She smiled at him, and turned to leave, passing Kah’Ri, who had held back - as per her request - while she talked to Kyle about the heavy ordnance he had on her ship. She heard the impact of the two, and the sound of them kissing, that was immediately mixed with the sound of hurried footsteps as Kahv’Hosh and Admiral Shane gave the two their privacy.
The meeting with the Council went smoother than she could have expected, with them simply stating that - as a interstellar ambassador - Kyle was authorized for a higher level of weaponry utilized in his protection, and as his current ship of transport, the Golden Egg had the authorization to use such weapons, if need be. They did - however - require any and all recordings of the interaction to be sent to the Council, for analysis of their capabilities.
There was also the matter of Grol’Rosh, the suul’mahr representative who had watched the probe’s descent into the dark of the planet below. The doctors felt that it was best to keep him in a medically induced coma, as when he was conscious - and heavily restrained - he was moaning and whimpering, rambling incoherently about the ‘darkness that sees, hiding the sea of flesh’, of ‘clawed feet on chitinous arms, too-long hands reaching from fanged tentacles’; and the sound, which he mentioned as the ‘screams of the damned from so many mouths, they know all, 'THEY ARE THE HOLES LIKE EYES!!!’
She noted the looks that ranged form disquiet, to disgust, but it was between the humans that she saw a look of understanding horror pass.
“But…” Kyle began weakly, looking at Admiral Shane, “That was just a movie. Wha-…?”
“Well,” the Admiral replied in a slightly dazed voice, “I think it’s safe to say that blowing the planet up is out of the question.”
“Or what?” Kyle began in amused incredulity, “A piece of it’s gonna hit a wormhole, and go back in time to Alaska sometime before the 1980’s?” The laugh he ended this with was close to hysterical, to which the Admiral shrugged.
“At this point, I wouldn’t rule anything out. However, the more likely scenario would be that it lands on a different planet, wreaksand havoc from there. Even worse would be for it to hit a previously uncontacted, sapient species’ home world. The results of a single cell of this… thing’s biomass were to make it to a planet with living creatures on it would be beyond catastrophic. There’s no amount of destruction - short of throwing it into a star, or a black hole - that I would trust the safety of the galaxy to, when it comes to the lifeform that calls this planet its home.”
Chairwoman Hahss’Chom spoke up at this.
“While I obviously have no knowledge of this movie the two of you reference, I must say that your assessments of this seem to be at least plausible. I don’t know so much about the time travel aspect, but it would seem that this would be the best summary of the events, here. It would appear that a sapient race evolved on this planet, and that their Gift was that of assimilation. At some point, it would seem they began assimilating each other, until they reached a critical mass, and ‘they’ became ‘it’. And from Grol’Rosh’s description, it doesn’t sound as if this is a pleasant experience for whatever they… it has become. I believe that it is not only a matter of protection for the wider galaxy - universe, even - but also as an act of mercy that we should put this… thing out of its misery.” There was a general murmur of agreement around the council chambers as no one seemed to want to disagree with that sentiment.
They moved the Golden Egg to the other side of the system from the planet, keeping the sun between it and them. Upon hearing about the ‘darkness that sees’, Kyle had exclaimed that that was what had bothered him so much about the planet; the darkness was watching them. They didn’t want to find out if the life form on the planet may be able to ‘stack’ itself ‘up’, away from the planet, and reach out to the ship were they to get over the dark side, but at the same time, no one wanted to be under the gaze of such a massive predator.
They were parked in that system for almost an entire Standard week, though, it should have been longer; however, with their A.I. able to make the calculations for them, they were able to drop further into subspace, where not only do the ‘shadows’ become larger - therefore reducing the ‘space’ needed to travel - but the speed of your craft rose exponentially, so it was extremely easy to overshoot one’s target, going a ‘shorter’ distance at a greatly multiplied speed.
The moon/ship was amazing to behold. It had - originally - had an outer layer of ice, with an inner ocean, and a deeper ice layer, followed by a rocky mantle, and heavy iron core. The humans - but really, the A.I. - had mined out the iron core, and used it in building the outer shell of the craft. The water was harvested - according to their records - and support columns on the inside were used to maintain integrity of the craft. It now appeared for all intents and purposes as a giant metal moon, with engines on one end, and millions of lights that dotted its surface, obviously viewports. A close-up scan showed that it was blanketed in guns, but those were obviously only big enough to serve as defense; it was apparent that this ship wasn’t built as a gunner.
Once it had come into the system - keeping out of ‘view’ from its dark side - they enveloped the planet with the craft’s tractor beam, the space around the planet lighting up to an almost gray aura, as the beam took hold. Once they had reported a full grip of the planet, the Europa Contingency dropped back into subspace, the planet ‘disappearing’ with them, only to ‘reappear’ around an hour later, the ship’s massive engines working more efficiently in subspace to move the much larger planet. Once they reappeared, the light around the planet went out as the Europa Contingency released it from the tractor beam, dropping back into subspace for an easier retreat from the sun.
No one wanted to go to look at what was happening to the planet, which would entail either getting into its range of ‘vision’, and also the possibility of seeing whatever it was that drove the suul’mahr representative insane. Readings showed the loss of mass, as the planet was burnt up in the corona of the star, and everyone watched on as the sun continued to consume its wayward planet. With the planet also having been thrown - not simply having 'fallen' - into the sun, it wasn’t long before it had been fully encased in the cleansing fires of the star.
She was also relieved to see that the humans had appropriately somber expressions, obviously taking no joy in the destruction - the mass loss of… ‘life’ - that they were responsible for. They watched the reading coming in with the seriousness of attending a loved one’s funeral, and never spoke a word, not in praise, or even the acknowledgement of what was happening. She was glad to see that they weren’t entirely aggressive, that while they had the capacity to not only think of these types of weapons, but to also create them, that they weren’t the type of people who would use them so willingly. She could see in their faces the regret they had in destroying this planet, even as it was done to save countless others; for someone would eventually break quarantine, either to try to exploit the resources ‘available’, or to use the ‘lifeform’ on the planet for their own twisted ploys. And so this was a necessary evil; though they were empathetic enough to realize it for the evil that it was.
After they had witnessed the destruction of the planet, the Admirals insisted on escorting the Golden Egg to Captala’Ellats, the space station that was the next stop on their itinerary. Not having any reason to refuse a military escort, Captain Vohr’Doe graciously accepted, and they were soon on their way; this had certainly earned a bit of a reprieve for her crew, and she wouldn’t say no to a bit of shore leave, herself.

The time it took to travel between that system, and the station went by fairly quickly for Kyle. He’d been alone most of his life, with little to no friends, so to have a group of friends now - who actually wanted to spend time with him, who would seek him out to do so - brought him to a new high that he had never acquired in his memory. But having acquired a girlfriend - one who came from a people whose culture emphasized affection - brought him to a level of bliss that he didn’t think was possible. Kah’Ri had taken to spending her nights in his room, as the only real difference between general, and officer’s quarters was a bigger gym, that also served as a bit of a lounge for the officers.

I have enjoyed golf off an on through the years but never really played actively. Mainly had just spent time at a driving range as opposed to playing courses but haven’t really done that for the last 10 years or so. So I would call myself a beginner.
I recently joined a group of buddies who actively played. Went a couple rounds with them and really enjoyed it. I picked up a newer set of clubs and set out to Top Golf today for the 2 hour range time for $15.
I ran roughly 10-15 shots with each club and recorded the “clean contact” distances (ignoring the tops, skulls, shanks, and grass burners in between).
Questions
Are these distances too short for what you would expect to get out of a club?
Should I just keep practicing and push to swing harder?
Based on these distances are there any clubs you’d suggest to fill out the bag first?
Would I expect much difference in yardage from the top golf range balls to game balls?
