2023.05.28 16:45 MasterpieceNo198 What is the consensus on correct bodyline position for pushups and inverted rows?

Can we end the debate and arrive at a consensus regarding what should be the bodyline during pushups and rows? Or is there no definite answer to it?
I see all sorts of advice about how to maintain the straight body position during pushups and inverted rows.
  1. Butt squeeze: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6ZpmqjNlCk&ab_channel=RehabMyPatient Doing this makes my thighs rotate a bit outward and my glutes are super tense which, honestly, is rather difficult to maintain throughout the entire set. Glutes become tired.
  2. Posterior Pelvic tilt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3l-aJQ6-lQ&ab_channel=MyDoctor-KaiserPermanente This is recommended by many but seem to cause too much lumbar flexion. Nick-e in his BWF Primer tutorials say to keep a "slight posterior pelvic tilt". He doesn't mention the cue to achieve this throughout the entire motion.
  3. Straight bodyline by keeping the quads and hip flexors fully extended and tensed with locked out knees and hips. The antagonist glutes are not squeezed or flexed intentionally. Then do their part in response to the quads being extended, as much as is naturally needed.
Now, this sub recommends 2 the most and 1 is the second in line. I have recently found out that 3 seems more natural to me. I tried 2 for quite some time and it would stress out my shoulders and elbows during pushups and in inverted rows I couldn't fully feel my back working with PPT.
I am not sure whether 3 is correct with so much conflicting advices.

2023.05.27 01:11 rennyyy853 Where can I get tested for ADHD in California without my parents knowing?

I’m 19M and I would like to know how I can get an ADHD check in California without my parents knowing. I still live with them, and I will be moving out soon to go to a University, but to be very honest I never feel like they help me with anything and make things worse instead.
For the past couple of years, I was having the speculation that I might have some level of ADHD. It started with TikTok videos, which I brushed off because they literally list things everyone goes through. But as I went deeper into TikTok, people began listing symptoms that I felt were a bit more distinguishing, such as picking skin or angry outbursts. Whenever I’m doing some hard homework, sometimes my mind just goes to something that makes me angry and then I get angry inside my room just because of that thought. And I’ve been picking my skin and rubbing it on my lips since I was a baby, and I could never stop.
I decided to take a couple of ADHD tests online, and for all of them they ended with a score around 4/6, which was listed as “ADHD likely.” Of course, I didn’t think of this as a diagnosis, as each test has stated only a medical professional can diagnose you.
I’ve brought it up with some of my friends, and some of them say that self-diagnoses is okay, but I don’t think so. I want to get tested by a medical professional, but I’m scared if I do it under my family’s healthcare my parents will see it, and then say a bunch of stupid shit.
I have Kaiser Permanente (it’s a healthcare plan), and a couple of months ago one of my friends who also has Kaiser (18NB) had to start taking birth control. It was a private appointment and she believed her parents would not see anything since she was 18, but then her mom in some way found out. After that, my friend told me that they were never trusting Kaiser again, and that I should be careful with Kaiser so I don’t have a problem like them.
So does anyone in California know any other way how I can get an ADHD check? I really don’t want to spend a lot of money, but it’s something that I really want to get done.

2023.05.27 00:15 marsolee Update: “I’m sitting in my car crying… how is this meant to help??”

I don’t know how to properly post updates so I hope this works. In my post a couple weeks ago, I ranted about taking this 15 minute computer game that was supposed to dictate if I had ADHD or not. A lot of you comforted, educated, and encouraged me so I really did feel better. Well, the psychologist/psychiatrist (I can’t remember which one) called me back and here’s a paraphrased summary of how that went…
“You’re average. You don’t display any symptoms of ADHD at all and we can’t diagnose or prescribe you with anything. Continue talking to your therapist, good luck”
Immediately I start bawling on the phone. I kind of went off on her, saying how unfair this whole process has been. I told her that every article, blog, video, about ADHD has been so relatable to the point of tears. She then tells me that social media has been spreading myths and rumors about ADHD and it’s affecting peoples’ diagnoses. Even more upset, I asked her how a 10 minute, 3 question “intake” and a 15 minute computer game was supposed to diagnose anybody, especially an adult woman who was homeschooled, grew up in a broken and religious home, and forced to mask all the time. She just said she was sorry I was frustrated and there was no further we could go. I told her my symptoms again, all my struggles. She did and said nothing helpful. She kept pushing that I just had anxiety, but I told her I’ve been treated for anxiety for 4 years now (lexapro) and it does help with some things, but not all of them. Again, she said there was nothing I could do without a formal diagnosis. If you’re in the Bay Area CA, maybe you can connect with this statement: fuck Kaiser Permanente.
I hung up, bawling next to my husband, ran to the bathroom and threw up. My husband said he’d heard of an out-of-network clinic and we should call them next because he agrees, my lexapro is helping but not with things like focus, memory loss, inability to sit still and work, etc etc. Still crying, I call them. I hate phone calls… but I called. She was so nice, she asked why I was upset and if I was safe. I told her everything that happened and she sounded surprised, she apologized for what I’d been through and we started the phone call screening. She asked probably about 3-4x the amount of questions Kaiser did, and even had me, my husband, and my dad fill out forms about my childhood and my last 6 months. She said after that, I’ll do 2 more one-hour assessments with a professional and after that, we’ll discuss the results, treatment plans, medication, and bi-weekly psych appointments to manage the meds.
I finally feel that we’re getting somewhere and that they’re taking into account my history, hobbies, symptoms, my whole life experience.
Of course they’re booked until July, so great- more waiting and I’m so impatient sometimes.
Just wanted to give an update and perhaps see if this new assessment plan sounds more normal to you all.
Thanks again so much for all the encouragement, I’ve never felt so heard, so understood before in my life.

2023.05.26 22:25 geekaz01d My insurer (Kaiser Permanente WA) says that I cannot fill my prescriptions at my local pharmacy/they won't count it toward my deductible. Also won't count other medical visits. Seems scammy to me?

Kaiser Permanente WA says that if I fill my prescription elsewhere they won't count it toward my deductible.
Cost to fill my prescriptions at the local pharmacy is 26% lower than the Kaiser Permanente pharmacy price. I had to call the KP pharmacy and make them quote the entire prescription to get a price. They were rather miffed when I didn't fill it immediately.
I was able to get this out of Member Services:
All drugs, supplies and devices must be obtained at a KFHPWA-designated pharmacy except for drugs dispensed for Emergency services or for Emergency services obtained outside of the KFHPWA Service Area, including out of the country. After the first fill, maintenance drugs are required to be filled at a KFHPWA Clinic or through KFHPWA mail order. Information regarding KFHPWA-designated pharmacies is reflected in the KFHPWA Provider Directory or can be obtained by contacting Kaiser Permanente Member Services.
They also don't want to count my out of network medical consultation to get my prescription in the first place toward my deductible.
This really feels like a scam.
The impression I am getting is that they have designed this system so as to take $1000/mth from us, plus make 25% on our prescriptions and charge us extra for any doctor's visits, but also ensure we never hit the deductible so they pocket the whole shebang.
I'm new to the US. I do not understand how any of this can be legal. Even if you dispense with the concept of universal healthcare and look at it as commerce, it is not in any way legitimate commerce.

2023.05.26 20:12 caffeinethegathering Pre Employment Physical with DO or MD - walk-in clinic?

I got a conditional offer with the CDFA (currently at CARB) and they require a pre employment physical with an MD or DO. I tried going through my insurance at Kaiser but they gave me a doctor’s letter instead of signing the paperwork I gave them from CDFA. CDFA can’t accept the letter, sadly, and I was dealing with Kaiser over the course of 3 weeks and just wanna get this over with. I just tried setting up an appointment at the midtown Sutter walk-in clinic but they can’t do it either :/
Any help in sorting out where to go would be great! Just getting tired of wasting time during my time off trying to get this done.

2023.05.26 05:00 hotpinkpurple Seeking advice and support regarding Kaiser (long)

Forgive me for this being long, hopefully someone’s willing to read it.
I have had a weird and awry experience getting diagnosed with Kaiser.
Back in September I went through the motions of getting assessed for diagnoses. The process was really fast and easy. I filled out a few questionnaires, spoke with someone on the phone for about 15 min and then got a referral for a psychiatrist.
It took me awhile to understand and realize that I had be referred to a psychiatrist outside of Kaiser. OK no big deal, I guess that’s how they work. I tried adderall and ritalin and eventually ended with Vyvanse, which has been like my miracle med.
In April, the psych needed me to have a referral form filled out by a doctor because of Biden ending the emergency health act for Covid. Apparently the person who referred me was a social worker and not a nurse or MD.
So nobody at Kaiser is willing to fill out this referral form so I can continue to see my psychiatrist. So now he is no longer able to prescribe me my Vyvanse. Also apparently I wasn’t actually supposed to have this referral for a psych for medication, it was supposed to be for therapy. But I wasn’t trying to get a therapist.
The Kaiser psych dept told me that in order to be prescribed stimulant medication through Kaiser, I need to go through a very thorough and lengthy assessment process.
I was diagnosed as a child but they can’t seem to find my records..
So I’m going through this process now. I had an initial interview with a nurse, and now I have to fill out a bunch of questionnaires, have a family member fill out questionnaires, do a drug test, an EKG, and a 3 hour long interview with a psychologist.
I struggle with insomnia and I can’t fall asleep without sleep aids. So I have been using thc gummies to help me fall asleep, as well as magnesium, occasional melatonin and cbd. On really bad nights I take Benedryl. I’m like this even without stimulants.
So I quit the thc gummies in order to pass the drug test, and I’ve had the worst insomnia of my life this past week. None of my other sleeping aids have been working, not even the Benedryl, not even the melatonin. Because of this my anxiety has been much higher than normal.
So when I’m filling out these questionnaires, it says "In the past 2 weeks, have you....." and I'm supposed to fill out my experiences. But the insomnia I am experiencing this week and related anxiety is not what I normally experience, so I'm afraid they will end up just diagnosing me with anxiety disorder instead. I kind of want to just add a bunch of notes to the sides of the questionaires, lol. Should I fill it like what I normally experience without this insomnia?
Anyways..... I'm pretty perplexed, because when I read other threads in here about people's experiences with Kaiser, they are all different!
Some people say it was super fast and easy, they just did an interview and got a prescription. Some people say they get drug tested, some don't. Why are some people getting diagnosed and prescribed within one interview, while I'm being told that the process is super lengthy and the interview is 3 hours? Has anyone else has to take an EKG?
I'm at Kaiser in California. I don't understand why everyone has a different experience if their assessment process is supposed to be just one way.
I'm considering changing my insurance when I am able to at the end of the year. I think the only other insurance I qualify for is Anthem Blue Shield. I have never had an insurance where everything wasnt all in one place like Kaiser. Does anyone here have experience with Blue Shield? Is it easy or difficult to get prescribed through that? Will I have to be reassessed and rediagnosed again?
Or should I just continue going through the motions with Kaiser? I hear many horror stories, but I also hear from others that it's been really easy and good for them. I'm just super struggling with this and the insomnia has been killing me.
Honestly at this point I don't even want to go back to using thc gummies for sleep if this is what I have to go through when I quit, and I'm sure I'll have to keep taking drug tests every so often if I stay with Kaiser. I feel like this attitude about thc is really outdated, especially if its used to wind down, especially if someone is on a stimulant.

2023.05.26 01:59 Similar-Guarantee605 Questions to ask the TMS clinic?

My final screening appointment, which I think is the appointment where they book the treatment schedule, is June 1st. It's a week away and I'm really so hopeful...
Being the geek that I am, I'm very curious. I plan to ask them what kind of machine they use, but what other types of questions should I ask? Not really familiar with TMS types and measurements... Maybe some of you could help me out here.
All I know is that it's rTMS, and is done in house at Kaiser Permanente. According to the tech they have two TMS chairs going more or less non stop at the clinic!
Is it standard for them to do brain imaging before TMS to determine what parameters to use? Or do only some clinics do that?
Also I'm a little nervous about accidentally saying something that might disqualify me, but I passed an initial screening (pre-referral) by my psychiatrist.
No implants, no seizure disorder. I've been hospitalized for depression many times, have bipolar disorder, PTSD, Aspergers, ADHD and substance use disorder (in remission, clean 14 months) on my chart.
I guess I'm just anxious something is going to mess it up for me for no particular reason, maybe TMS might help with my anxiety, too!
If this helps me I will do an extensive write up on my experience so that others may know there's a treatment that works for the disorder that robs you of all the reasons life is worth living.
Thanks again to everyone for making me feel so welcome here and being so encouraging. Thank you for sharing your struggles and successes here.

My first post on this sub so I apologize if I am missing anything or if my formatting is weird! Looking to finalize my school list and was hoping to get some feedback if possible! I will likely cut down on my list as I am unsure if I want to apply to this many schools so please let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
