METHODOLOGY
Link to more detailed writeup on our methodology - Step 1: A Call to Rankers right after the Conference Championship games
- Step 2: Rankers from each team nominated players to rank, with a 11 game minimum threshold. Players are associated with the team they played for in 2022
- Step 3: The Grind. We instructed users to tier positions groups into T25, T50, etc based on 2022 regular season play only. This took several weeks as the rankers tiered each position group and discussed them. There were no individual player threads and no arbitrary position caps. Just questions and rankings.
- Step 4: Users submitted their own personal Top 125 lists.
- Step 5: User lists were reviewed by myself, u/mattkud , and u/MikeTysonChicken . The rankers were expected to answer questions about their lists. They were allowed to make any changes to their list, and were not forced to make any changes
- Step 6: The Reveal… where we are now!
And without further ado, here are the players ranked 100-91 in the
NFL Top 100 Players of the 2022 Season!
#100 - Garrett Wilson - New York Jets - Wide Receiver

Key Stat:
2nd Most missed forced tackles among WRs with 22
Written by: u/MattyT7
Garrett Wilson walked into the NFL as an immediate stud. He showed the world who he was in week 2, playing a major part in the destruction of the Cleveland Browns. Wilson caught two touchdowns, including what was the game-winner, to go along with 102 yards through the air. Despite having the worst quarterback play across the league last season, Wilson earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, and it is not hard to see why. He is a demon after the catch with the ball in his hands, consistently finding ways to squeeze as much extra juice as he can out of a play. His jab step/cutback is lethal; simply put, he is not easy to stop. He may have only caught 4 touchdowns all year, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that the Jets offense was… well, not great. Even so, Wilson finished his rookie campaign with 83 catches for 1104 yards. You may not have heard, but the Jets quietly brought in a new quarterback this offseason, and the sky is truly the limit for Wilson going forward. Although he may not be the most physically gifted wide receiver in the world, he’s an incredibly crafty dude and is already one of the best at what he does.
#99 - Aaron Rodgers - Green Bay Packers - Quarterback

2nd in the league in PFF's Big Time Throw Rate, trailing only Josh Allen
Written by: u/IMissHarambe878
A “down” year for ARod sees him slip to the bottom of the Top 100 here. His stats may have declined since his back-to-back MVPs, but Rodgers was consistently carrying this Green Bay team on his back this season. Despite carrying a broken thumb throughout the campaign (in which he didn’t miss a game), he helped try to steady the ship despite inconsistency across all other parts of the team (defense, run game, inexperienced wide receivers). He nearly dragged Green Bay kicking and screaming into the playoffs but was only stopped by a gutsy Lions team in Week 18 ready to play spoiler. Fun fact, Rodgers actually put up his career high in game winning drives this year with 4.
Here is a highlights package of Rodgers’ last season in Green Bay. Some specific highlights within the video:
- 1:01 – Rodgers shows he can still throw a pretty deep ball out to Watkins v Bears
- 3:29 – Deep throw v the Jets to Lazard, probably explains why he wanted him to follow him there
- 4:37 – Rolling out of the pocket to find Aaron Jones for a beautiful TD v Commanders
- 5:06 – Absolute dime to Doubs for a TD v Bills
- 7:30 – Beautiful play action out to Watson for a TD v Cowboys
- 13:05 – Sideline pass out to Mercedes Lewis v Dolphins
- 14:11 – Absolute monster of a ball out to Watson v Lions in his final game for Green Bay
All good things have to come to an end at some point, and this year showed Rodgers wasn’t the immortal some thought he was. Considering his supporting cast and the offense around him, I think he did the best he could. Don’t let that fool you though, he’s still very much an above average quarterback and I’m confident he will be higher up this list, this time next year. Take care of him, Jets, and thank you for all the memories, Aaron.
#98 - Jaelan Phillips - Miami Dolphins - EDGE Rusher
Previous Ranks
Key Stat:
Phillips’s 70 pressures is the most by a Dolphin since Olivier Vernon in 2015
Written by: u/Yedic
Jaelan Phillips followed up a somewhat spotty rookie season with a much more polished sophomore campaign in 2022. He nearly doubled his pressure numbers, with an increase from 39 in 2021 to 70 in 2022 per PFF. He more than doubled his stops, jumping up from 16 to 36.
Check out this play, where Phillips, lined up at the top of the screen, uses his speed to beat the tackle upfield, and then works back down into the pocket for the strip sack in the 4th quarter of an important division game. Here's one where Jaelan Phillips lines up at 3t, against the LG, and then shows a nice motor to adjust for a 3rd down sack while fighting through a hold.
Phillips also showed off some impressive versatility. Per PFF's tracking, he dropped into coverage about six time a game, which resulted in the most coverage snaps out of all Edge Defenders nominated for this list, and 4th most of all Edge Defenders in the entire league. He even blocked a punt for good measure!
#97 - Talanoa Hufanga - San Francisco 49ers - Safety
Previous Ranks
Key Stat:
Only safety with multiple sacks, multiple forced fumbles, and four interceptions including a pick-6 in a single season in the last 10 years
Written by: u/TheRed_Knight
Once upon a time there was a slightly undersized Polynesian Safety from USC who played with wild abandon and a glorious main of hair, who ended up drafted in the 1st round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. His name was Troy Polamalu and as it turns out, he was one of the best to ever play the game at his position. Fast forward to 2021, and USC has another slightly undersized Polynesian Safety, named Talanoa Hufanga, who played with wild abandon and a slightly less glorious main of hair, who fell in the draft due to a poor combine showing and injury.
Snagged in the 5th round of the 2021 draft by the 49ers (praise be to Adam Peters), Hufanga played spot snaps on defense his rookie year as a rotational safety, while logging most of his playing time as a special teams gunner, with his most memorable play coming against the Packers in the NFC Divisional round, returning the blocked punt by Jordan Willis for a game tying touchdown. When Jimmie Ward suffered a moderate hamstring strain in the 2022 preseason, Hufanga capitalized on his opportunity, playing well enough to earn the starting S job when Ward came back, which in part led to Ward and the 49ers parting ways in FA.
During his 2022-23 sophomore campaign Hufanga ended up 3rd on the team/13th amongst all Safety's in tackles (97), 3rd on the team/6th amongst all Safety's in PD's (9), 2nd on the team/tied for 6th amongst all Safety's in INT's (4), including a pick-6 against Matt Stafford, and tied for 1st on the team/3rd amongst all Safety's in FF (2) EX. Despite being listed at only 6 foot 200lbs he plays significantly bigger and isn't afraid to lay wood or attack blockers in run defense. By far and away Hufanga's greatest asset is his raw instinctual play, his ability to diagnose and blow up plays based on pre snap alignment and pure gut instinct in a way offenses can't plan against. He's SF's wildcard, and on a defense laden with monsters and freaks he's perfectly positioned to reap as much damage as possible against opposing offenses.
While Hufanga's certainly has a long way to go to catch Polamalu, the similarities early in his career are apparent. History doesnt repeats itself but it sure does rhymes a whole lot.
#96 - Alex Highsmith - Pittsburgh Steelers - EDGE Rusher
Previous Ranks
Key Stat:
1st in sacks lined up on the right side of the defensive line with 14
Written by: u/ezDuke
Flashback to 2021. Melvin Ingram had signed with the Steelers in hopes of revitalizing his career opposite a premier Edge rusher in TJ Watt. All that stood in his way was a former 3rd round pick from the football powerhouse school of Charlotte entering his second season, Alex Highsmith. By midseason, however, it was clear that the Steelers saw something in Highsmith and Ingram demanded a trade in search of a starting opportunity.
Throughout the 2022 season, Highsmith rewarded the Steelers' faith in him. He showcased an array of pass rush moves to finish 6th in the league with 14.5 sacks, highlighted by his devastating spin move. He also led the league in forced fumbles, along with Haason Reddick. He actually graded even more highly as a run defender, according to PFF, and even showed good coverage skills for a LB.
Highsmith has blossomed into the do-it-all Linebacker they envisioned when they shipped Ingram off for a 6th round pick. While he still has some room to grow, there's no question that he and TJ Watt have as good a chance as any to finish 2023 as the league's best pass rush tandem.
#95 - Tua Tagovailoa - Miami Dolphins - Quarterback
Previous Ranks
Key Stat:
When throwing 5+ Yards downfield, Tua ranked 1st in EPA/ATT, 1st in Success Rate, 1st in First Down Rate, 1st in YPA and 1st in Passer Rating
Written by: u/cheesepythons
Tua Tagovailoa, perhaps the most polarizing player in the NFL presently. Some of the criticism justified and some vacuous, somewhere in the middle of all this there is the realization that what we got in the 2022 season was a much-improved player who when given the confidence, right system and weapons showed the ability of elite talent. Finishing first in league passer rating, 25 touchdowns, around 9 yards Y/A behind one of the worst OL’s in the league (24th in pass block win rate, thank god for when TA was playing) was a bright spot for his growth and maturity as a QB and team leader. On intermediate throws, Tua ranked first in EPA per drop back and completion percentage. Tua had the lowest average time to throw on these pass attempts at 2.63, the league average for throws of 11 or more air yards is 3.02 seconds. There will be arguments of course that having two of the best receivers in the league has helped, there can’t be any argument, but it is interesting to note that Tua was ranked 33rd in the league in passing yards after the catch which suggests his arm is doing a lot of the lifting as well. 2 serious concussions and subsequently missing time robbed Dolphins fans of seeing him produce at a consistent level but at 8-1 as a starter leading into December (before the wheels fell off) there was enough to have him nominated and subsequently voted into the Top 100 players for the season.
#94 - CJ Gardner-Johnson - Philadelphia Eagles - Safety

Key Stat:
T-1st in the league with 6 INTs
Written by: u/CokeZ3ro
Joining the Eagles mere days before Week 1 via trade, Gardner-Johnson would serve as the cherry on top for the formidable 2022 Eagles defense. More than just a change in scenery, Gardner-Johnson also experienced a change in position, switching from nickel corner to a more traditional safety. Safe to say, he adapted well to the change. Gardner-Johnson co-lead the league with 6 interceptions.
Gardner-Johnson often employs a ballhawk style coverage. He has a great sense for the ball in the air, and a blazingly fast approach which will often punish poor placement and deflections. Pairing with the disruption caused by the Eagle’s D-line and the coverage by their excellent corners gave Gardner-Johnson plenty of opportunities to flash those skills.
Mclaurin got Slay beat? It’s alright CJGJ will fly over to make the pick.
Underthrown? You’re done for.
Sometimes it feels like he spawns out of nowhere to make the pick.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention trash talk antics. If there was an award for instigation, C.J. Gardner-Johnson would win in a landslide. Few are better at getting under the opponent’s skin. Gardner-Johnson brings a level of grit, energy, and bravado that can instantly make the secondary better.
#93 - Ryan Ramczyk - New Orleans Saints - Offensive Tackle

6th straight year allowing less than 20 pressures in true pass sets
Written by: u/LazyFBaby
Ryan Ramczyk turned in a solid year again in 2022. However, he happened to be on the 2022 New Orleans Saints football in 2022 as well. The offense was woefully inconsistent and particularly struggled to get anything going in the 2nd half of most games ranking in the top 5 in terms of three and out percentage during the latter half of the game. Consequently, Ram was mostly ignored throughout the season where he only allowed 3 sacks, 5 QB hits and 20 pressures (per PFF). If I was to pick any performance of his to highlight it would be his work against Nick Bosa in week 12 he stonewalled Bosa all game and his only real mistake was a false start penalty. Ryan continues to be one of the strongest tackles in the NFL in terms of his anchor and his ability to deal with any pass rush moves that an opposing Edge might throw at him. Hopefully, 2023 will see his return to the upper echelons of this hallowed list
#92 - Tee Higgins - Cincinnati Bengals - Wide Receiver
Previous Ranks
Key Stat:
4th in Contested Catch % (16 catches on 26 targets) +3rd highest target passer rating (121.0)
Written by: u/Letsgomountaineers5
Tee Higgins was one of the biggest draft crushes I’ve had in some time, so it was a no brainer to pick up his write up, even though he plays for one of my favorite team’s biggest rivals. He’s just a really fun player to watch from a WR coach’s perspective. Let’s dive into a few things that makes Tee Higgins a Top 100 player and an elite WR in the NFL.
The first thing you have to love about Tee’s game is his deep ball ability. That has always been his calling card, even without elite speed. So, what makes him such a threat? Well, I would be remiss to leave off his size and frame. He’s long and broad and those two things allow him to high point footballs and shield off defenders naturally. However, what separates Tee from the other thousand long and broad people playing WR at any level up and down the country is an otherworldly ability to track a football down the field, very late hands and reactions to assist with preventing a defender from getting between the ball, and most importantly the body control of a world class ballet performer. I mean this when I say that Tee Higgins has the best body control down the field of any player in football and WR gurus like Urban Meyer, Brian Hartline, and Butch will say that body control is the hardest thing to teach a receiver to do and arguably the most sought after trait of a downfield threat, moreso than speed.
Here’s a great example of this. Sauce is playing Cover 3 to his side of the field, so he’s able to open to the QB and track the ball flight. He’s in decent trail position as like I said earlier, Tee isn’t a burner. However, Sauce is late to find the ball because Tee doesn’t give anything to the ball being flight until the last possible moment where his eyes widen and his hands go up. Sauce is even able to flip his head around and get in the line of sight of Tee, but Tee still effortlessly adjusts his body to maintain eye contact with the football and track it into his bread basket. Not often did Sauce get beat deep this year, but he sure did by Tee. Another example of Tee just sonning DBs downfield. In this matchup, the Browns are playing 2-Read. As soon as the slot WR to Tee’s side goes vertical, it becomes matchup quarters and Greedy Williams is attached to Tee. This is a ball that SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THROWN. Greedy is in excellent position on the fade. The safety is coming underneath on the deep out so even a back shoulder is typically a bad idea here. The Browns play this really well! But, still, here’s Tee high pointing the ball centimeters above Greedy’s hands and ripping it away from him, having the body control to remain on his feet even as gravity and Greedy are pulling him to the ground, and walking into the end zone.
An underrated part of Tee’s game is his route running. He’s very good on his release. The first clip of this cut up shows why. In the slot here, he stems his defender outside while pushing vertical. His delayed release and “out-in-out” stepping pattern freezes the curl/flat player in the cover 3. He’s in a bad spot to play the “curl” zone (he’s not running a curl) of the coverage because the backer to his side blitzes but Tee has him so frozen, he passes Tee off to no one and Tee is able to settle into wide open space. He also uses his body control to break off vertical routes very quickly, even without having the quickest of feet. Cover 3 to Tee again as most teams were scared of him getting over top of the defense. Tee options this go route off into a perfect flag comeback, using both his intelligence and body control to find open space. The defender is flipped open and running from the snap so he recognizes getting behind him is hard. But the defender is also in really good leverage to snap back down on fast break back to the football, so he has to really sell vertical. He closes space and cuts first like he’s going to run a fade/corner route. Then, he plants extremely hard vertically in one of the most unbelievable leg angles I’ve seen from someone that is still able to keep their feet and comes back to the football. The corner is completely helpless to stop this play.
There’s been this long standing whisper that Tee is a product of Jamarr. I attempted to illustrate as briefly as possible just how incredible of a player Tee is in his own right, but I would be remiss when discussing Tee in context of this list on 2022 play to mention how much he elevated his game with Jamarr out. Tee ended the year with 74 catches for 1029 yards. Nothing to scoff at. But with Jamarr out, he elevated his play to a pace of 110 catches for 1577 yards. Tee may be one of the only players in football that is held back by a top 5 WR talent playing across from him. He proved this year that both players serve a crucial role in this offense and if anything, he could stand to see more targets next season even with Jamarr in the fold. He can be the WR1 and when all the attention is paid to him, he seems to take his game to even higher levels. Look out for him next season climbing up this list even higher.
#91 - Quenton Nelson - Indianapolis Colts - Offensive Guard

4rd OL in history to make the Pro Bowl in each of their first 5 seasons, with 3 AP All-Pro 1st teams
Written by: u/Matt_Forte_
Quenton Nelson continues to be the best lineman on the Colts once again. Having a down year compared to his previous pedigree, he was not quite as dominant as his usual standards in pass protection, he allowed more sacks than he had previously, but some of that can be attributed to inexperienced QB play and poor pocket presence forcing him to have to hold up for longer. Nelson allowed 5 sacks out of the Colts’ 60 total allowed sacks, while starting all 17 games and coming close to the lead league among guards with snaps taken, showing he was nowhere near the biggest culprit on the team in allowing sacks. There were two plays that I felt summarized his pass protection. First, he does a great job picking up a stunt to give Ehlinger time in his first NFL start. Second, is simply a picture. The ball was snapped at 9:37, and approximately 2.5 seconds into the play, Q is the only lineman whose man is not pressuring Sam Ehlinger.
However, Quenton Nelson was still a force to be reckoned with in the run. Between his ability pull, or lead block for Jonathan Taylor, Quenton Nelson still retains his ability to be a dominant force in run blocking. Any Jonathan Taylor highlight will heavily feature a solid block from Q giving him the running lane he takes, or Q out in front leading the charge! He will do this on any DL in the league too, there were several big gains in the Eagles game where Q was able to move the very talented Eagles DTs. He routinely performed this well against some of the best Defensive Lines in the league, such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where he does a great job preventing Heyward from wrecking this TD run,
Expect Quenton Nelson to be a massive cornerstone of Anthony Richardson’s development in Indianapolis, providing a solid foundation to every facet of the run game, and a source of protection up the middle against pass rushers

2023.06.08 17:05 stego-goes-gao Current makeup of the squad
An update to
this post from two months back.
Premier League Rules
Source:
PL Website - A squad can contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil "Home Grown Player" criteria.
- The remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be home grown.
- A "Home-Grown Player" means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
If you don't have a Home-Grown Player, you can simply begin the season with 17 foreign players. If you want more players on your squad, up to a maximum of 25, they need to be home grown. So it is not a strict rule but given the number of matches and expected injuries, it is fair to expect each team will wish to utilize the 25-player limit by filling the squad with 8 home-grown players.
CL/EL/ECL Rules
European competitions have a stricter version of this rule. You can read the exact wording here at
official UEFA site. I will paraphrase it below.
- Maximum Squad Size: 25
- Minimum Club-Trained players: 4
- Minimum Association-Trained players: 8
Once again, there is no strict requirement. Just roll up with 17 foreign players, leave the other spots blank and the club is free to participate in the competition. The rules here make a distinction between "Club-Trained" and "Association-Trained" players.
Association-Trained players are Home-Grown players as above(with the exception that Welsh players no longer count as Association-Trained unless they played under FA pyramid; because Wales has a different Association; this exception shouldn't matter to top clubs anyway).
Club-Trained is the same definition as Home-Grown except the player had to spend their formative years at the specific club. This is to encourage academy investment and use, and mitigate top clubs just buying Association-Trained players and calling it a day.
Exceptions
Each competition further has exceptions on adding youngsters.
- PL allows registering unlimited number of U-21 players, i.e. they do not take a spot on the squad list if they were born on or after January 1, 2002 (for season starting 2023)
- CL/EL/ECL allows registering unlimited number of U-21 players IF they have been at the club for at least 2 years, starting from their 15th birthday.

- Will take a foreign-player spot in PL 2024/25 and beyond due to PL definition of season being "from the day the summer transfer window closes to the last league match of the season" (Source: PL Handbook) ; Will also take a foreign player slot for UEFA
- Will qualify as club-trained player in CL/EL/ECL 2025/26 & beyond if PL 2025/26 starts in August due to UEFA definition saying "the season immediately following his 21st birthday may be counted if his birthday is on or after 1 July (winter championships) or 1 January (summer championships) but before the first match of the relevant national championship." (Ramsay's birthday is July 31; rule source is UEFA document)
- Harvey Elliott
- Qualifies as Club-Trained(and Home-Grown) starting this summer for both PL and UEFA.
- Does not need to be registered on either list for next season since he is still U-21

- Continues to qualify as Association-Trained(and Home-Grown) as usual
- Does not need to be registered on either list for next season since he is still U-21
- Will never qualify as Club-Trained in the future due to being signed a year late
Transfer Options
- Current Squad Size: 20 (+2 in Elliott/Bajcetic who are club-trained but do not need to be registered for next season; +1 in Ramsay who is a complicated case; not counting Carvalho since it seems he is set to leave)
- Foreign Spots available: 2 (if 2 new foreign signings do come in, Ramsay cannot be registered for Europe)
- Homegrown spots: 6 club-trained players in Trent/Curtis/KelleheJoe/Harvey/Bajcetic starting from summer 2024 + 1 homegrown player in Hendo. Can always be supplemented with academy players if someone steps up to senior squad(or the old reliable in Nat and Rhys if they stay)
- Contracts expiring in 2024: Adrian, Matip, Thiago
- Contracts expiring in 2025: Trent, Salah, VVD, Hendo, Tsimikas, Nat Phillips
tl;dr - Liverpool can sign a maximum of 2 foreign players unless someone leaves. Also while there is not an urgent need for it, Liverpool can sign a maximum of 3 additional homegrown players to supplement the squad.
If Kone+Thuram happens and no one else leaves, then Liverpool can only sign homegrown players to supplement the squad.

2023.06.08 15:21 Justalittkeseepyboy My girlfriend made me lose a close friend and I regret it everyday
I (18)met my girlfriend (18)our sophomore year in high school and we started to date around the middle of our junior year. When we started dating I introduced her to my good friend Jane (18)who was also a junior, who I had meet during our freshman year.
My girlfriend and Jane seemed to get along and also become friends, but my girlfriend would get jealous of how close Jane and I were. She would get upset whenever Jane and I wanted to hang out after school or if I even texted or called her, because she was afraid Jane and I had feelings for each other when I assured her I only love her. My girlfriend ended up having this dream where I went to a football game with Jane and I never told her and she caught us there and she got really upset, so she told me this dream and I said that it would never come true, so I told her whenever Jane wanted to hang out with me she could go with us too. This worked for awhile.
Until my senior year it was right after our homecoming where Jane was in our group. Joe was a mutual friend of all us,but he was very close with my girlfriend, started running into trouble with Jane and some of her other friends, they said he was fake and wasn’t a good person (which we have come to find out was all true) well my girlfriend didn’t like that Jane started to grow distant with Joe. So we were at a Halloween party with Joe and my girlfriend decided to text Jane and tell her that, we didn’t like how she was acting with Joe and she doesn’t like that Jane and I are close friends and she didn’t want Jane to be friends with us anymore. So Jane upset tried to text me, but my girlfriend decided that I shouldn’t talk to her anymore so she deleted her number off my phone
I have always been hurt that I had to lose such a good friend but I can never bring it up because if I ever do my girlfriend gets angry at and and says “i shouldn’t care about her since I’m dating her and not Jane” we have all now graduated and Joe and Jane seem to have made up but my girlfriend still hates Jane and all I really wanna do is contact her and explain everything and how I truly have felt about this whole decision but i feel that it’s been way to long and I lost out and a incredibly important friendship to me.

Next, Mr. Bloom (Scatman Crothers) comes to a retirement home to teach the residents that they are only as young as they feel. 2023.06.08 05:18 anastasiaraine23 Revealing the Powerful Olympic Connections of Test Cricketers
| The Olympic Connection: Test Cricketers Who Competed in the Games What is the most significant disparity in first-class cricket between a team’s first and second-inning scores? https://152526.ekcricket.com Brian Booth, who passed away last week, also competed in the Olympics for Australia hockey. Do other Test cricketers have a record of doing this? Australian Craig Franklin questioned http://eklottery.in/ The tragically deceased test cricketers Brian Booth, who passed away last week at 89, appears to have been one of the few universally appreciated players. “A truly great human,” remarked his former teammate Kerry O’Keeffe. Firm claims to lead Australia’s Test cricketers team of “best blokes.” In 1961, Booth played the first of his 29 Test matches in England. https://indibetindia.com During his last series, the 1965–1966 Ashes, he twice captained Australia. In tests, Brian earned five hundred (plus a 98). Before beginning his international cricket career, he played hockey for the Australian national team that competed in some of the last games in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. https://iplwin-india.com Six Test cricketers, including Booth, also participated in the Olympics. The first was Claude Buckenham, an Essex fast bowler who played in four Tests in South Africa in 1909–1910 and took seven wickets in the first match in Johannesburg. Buckenham was a Great Britain football team member who won the gold medal in Paris in 1900. https://indibet2.com Another Essex athlete, Johnny Douglas, captured the gold medal in middleweight boxing in the 1908 London Olympics. Between 1911–12 and 1924–25, he went on to play 23 Tests for England, captaining the team in most of them. https://indiacricketsite.com Around the same period, Jack MacBryan of Somerset, who was originally a British soldier hockey team that had won a gold medal in Antwerp in 1920, participated in one Test match against South Africa in 1924 (famously not by bowling or batting at Old Trafford). Keith Thomson of New Zealand had a very active 1968: following his participation in two Test cricketers matches against India, he was selected for the Olympic hockey team representing his country in Mexico. He passed away in 2023, like Booth. https://melbetz.in More recently, Sunette Viljoen competed in all four Olympic Games between 2004 and 2016, capturing the silver medal in the javelin at the most recent one in Rio de Janeiro. Before focusing on athletics, she played one Test and 17 ODIs for the South African women’s squad. Suzie Bates participated in 291 white-ball cricket internationals, many of which she captained, and she also played for New Zealand’s basketball team in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. However, she never took part in a Test match. https://www.indibeti.in Unforgettable Innings: Exploring the Test and First-Class Cricket Records for Disparity 2023 After being skittled for 123 in their first innings, Glamorgan scored 737 at the weekend. Is there a record for the disparity between the innings? England’s Joe Jervis was questioned. https://www.indibete.in In a stunning change of events, Glamorgan outscored Sussex by 614 runs in the second innings of their recent County Championship game at Hove. It surpasses the 591 set by Karachi Blues (111 and 702 for 7) against United Bank in Karachi in 2016–17 as the most significant difference between two completed innings by one team in a first-class match. https://rajabets0.com The test cricketers record is 551, set by Pakistan (106 and 657 for 8) against the West Indies in Bridgetown in 1957–1958. Hanif Mohammad scored 337 points in 970 minutes during that match. In first-class cricket, there have been two further instances of 551: in 1926–1927, Barbados (175 and 726 for 7 declared) against Trinidad at Bridgetown, and in 1983, Middlesex (83 and 634 for 7 stated) against Essex in Chelmsford. https://melbetvip.in The only total higher than Glamorgan’s 737 was Leicester’s 795 for 5 declared last year. Only four second-inning counts in the history of first-class cricket have been more significant, with New South Wales’ 770 against South Australia in Adelaide in 1920–21 being the highest. https://www.indibetvip.in Cricketers from Pakistan with Names Beginning with ‘Q’ The query from last week regarding England players with an X in their last name piqued my interest. How many Test cricketers from Pakistan have words that begin with a Q? Indian Sanjeev Kulkarni was questioned. When we look at Pakistan Qs, there are more than just the five England Xs. There are 37 Pakistani Test players whose names are often written with a Q on scorecards, and at least four more whose full names also contain a Q (for instance, the most recent Test hitter Yasir Hameed’s full name is Yasir Hameed Qureshi). https://melbet1.in I won’t mention every Q player, but a solid Test squad may be played, including Waqar Younis, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq, Mushtaq Mohammad, Asif Iqbal, Abdul Qadir, Zulqarnain, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Aqib Javed. The longest-tenured cricket reporter in Pakistan, Qamar Ahmed, would have to cover their game. The 1980s seamer Tahir Naqqash, who has two Qs in his name, could take the front stage. https://melbetindian.com/ In his Test batting career, Chris Martin amassed 36 ducks and a best score of 12 (IMAGE) Chris Martin had a career-high 233 wickets and 123 runs scored in Test matches. Is this 110-point deficit the biggest one in a Test career? American Elamaran Perumal was questioned. https://iplwinz.in/ In his 71-Test career, Chris Martin, a New Zealand seamer (and terrible hitter), took 233 wickets and 36 no-balls while scoring just 123 runs. The Indian leg-spin wizard Bhagwat Chandrasekhar comes in second with 242 wickets and 167 runs (a difference of -75), making 110 the most negative difference between runs and wickets in a Test career. Old-time bowlers Bill Bowes of England (68 wickets and 28 runs) and Jack Saunders of Australia (79 wickets and 39 runs) had a differential of minus 40. https://10cricindian.com/ Aizaz Cheema, a recent Pakistani seamer, had an abysmal ratio: 20 wickets but just one run. The current South African seamer Mfuneko “Chewing” Ngam and the 1930s England legspinner Charles “Father” Marriott got 11 Test wickets without scoring a single run. https://152526.ekcricket.com In response to the query from the previous week concerning a player in an IPL game using ten balls without scoring, didn’t Dwayne Smith once reach the boundary on his 12th ball? India’s Rajesh Verma enquired. https://152526.eklottery.com You are correct that for Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Daredevils in Raipur in 2015, Dwayne Smith, a generally aggressive West Indian, spent 11 balls on zero (eight of them, including a first-over maiden, delivered down by slow left-armer Shahbaz Nadeem). The solutions provided, however, were appropriate for teams batting second because last week’s question mainly referred to IPL chases. http://eklottery.in/ Smith needed 11 balls, which is the most in either inning of an IPL game, to get off the ground, but Nayan Doshi faced 13 before getting out for a duck in Rajasthan Royals’ 2011 encounter against Kochi Tuskers in Indore. https://152526.eklottery.com Take a Deep Dive into the Olympic Connections of Test Cricketers! 2023.06.08 00:47 Angad-g How do i make a calendar like this
2023.06.07 23:56 Blisk_The_Allfather Isagi's Next Level Of Vision
Idk if this has been done before but here goes
So we already know that metavision is a broken ability, something that allows Isagi (at times) to surpass the plays and intellect of Kaiser, someone who had metavision before him. And in the latest chapter, Kaiser has shown us just how far metavision can take him, outplaying not 1, not 2 but 3 META VISION PLAYERS, of which one is the best U20 Japan Defender, aswell Aryu and Sendou. He had 4 DEFENDERS on him, and in the instant Lorenzo stopped marking him he formulated a play that out-metavisioned EVERYONE on the field in an instant
So we have metavision, the key to worldclass like Noel Noa himself says, one that makes Isagi recognised by both Lorenzo and Kaiser, and Isagi's insane football IQ. Now comes the main problem that will stay with Isagi for the rest of the series, his physical stats. No matter how next level Isagi becomes, he's got the body or the average person at best, everyone else is a lot more physically gifted than he is. It has improved as of the Ubers match aswell as his dribbling, but he's got no technique, complex skills or movement, and again, he's an average joe physically
But there's one thing in my mind that always bothered me with meta vision...was this supposed to be new to Isagi? Couldn't he already read the field before to forsee its future? And thats when it hit me
Metavision is a combination of using your full vision including peripheral to scan the field, and recording that data and constantly processing it at ahigh level to predict the fields outcome. At least, thats how its explained. But theres something interesting about it, in the sense that it DOESN'T actually allow you to predict outcomes. We've seen this with Nagi/Barou, as long as someones got something new a metavision holder hasn't seen/a high level play, their meta vision is a lot less effective. No, it allows you to know and predict all players positions. Ok then, how does this take Isagi to the next level??
Remember when I was like 'Isagi could already do this?'. To an extent he could, with his ORIGIONAL weapon, Spatial Awareness. He can basically see the entire field without looking, allowing him to essentially act as a god watching over the field as stated in the manga by Ego....you may see where I'm getting at here.
What happens if you combine metavision, a skill that allows you high level processing of the field which allows you to predict its outcome, with Spatial Awarness, something that allows Isagi basically 360 degree vision of the field at all times? 100% metavision at all times, with Isagi only needing to look at the immeadiate danger point in the future. If Isagi doesn't have to turn his head to use metavision, no one knows he can see them
It lessens the physical strain on his body as instead of having to pay extremely close attention to his surroundings all the time, he can 'see' them almost by instinct. Spatial Awareness can't be turned on and off, and it means Isagi spends less energy on all his senses being at 100%. Why does this put him at next level though? Kaisers metavision is still better aswell as his states. Simple. Everyone knows Isagi is a threat when left to his own devices, so the look at him. Problem is, they can only look on place at a time. Isagi? He knows EVERYONE is a threat to him, and he can see ALL of them without even looking WHILE using metavision. It can make it so players, friend and foe alike, never know whether to pay attention or ignore Isagi, but he already know whos going where, and they can never tell until he moves. Thanks to Hiori, he's learning to move on instinct, making it even HARDER to stop him and his plays
Along with his IQ and vision developing, if this were to happen to Isagi's vision, I believe he'd find the road straight to the top.
Soooo am I glazing or am I cooking, lmk your own theories too. Peace

2023.06.07 23:44 JamieBeeeee Cenk and co have a fundamental flaw in how they view politics
I used to be a big leftie from being a young person (age 15 in 2013) to around 2020. I was one of the people purged during Destinys infamous 'Leftie Ark'. I consumed a lot of tyt, Kylie kulinsky (especially as a kid), and post Destiny purge, a ton Chao trap house and great friend of the steam, Hasan. It's crazy hearing Cenk talk again today, as the narrative has not changed at all in at least a decade.
The narrative I'm talking about is the broad acceptance that democrats do not care about you, they give concessions because they actually agree with Republicans, they are completely owned and controlled by corporations, and they rig elections against left wing candidates (aka Bernie and friends)
(Also I'm Australian but I used to exclusively consume US politics lol)
I was fully bought into this narrative until the start of the 2020 election. If anyone remembers the democratic primary in Iowa, Bernie won the first vote, then Pete Buttigieg won the second vote by a very slim margin. I was watching Sam Seders coverage, and the take away was that it was unfortunate for Bernie, he didn't have the best political strategy, well done to Pete, and good luck for the rest of the primary even if it didn't look too optimistic for Bernie going forward.
When he ended stream I turned over to Hasan's channel, who was still streaming. The man was literally living in a different universe. He was just screaming to thousands of people that the DNC were rigging it again, that Pete was a rat fuck CIA plant, that we needed to fight for Bernie, and mostly more about how rigged it was.
It was jarring and honestly scary, that two political commentators could have entirely different world views, one based on trust in our systems and processes, and another based on sowing distrust and anger, peddling and simply fabricating conspiracy theories with no shame or apparent self awareness.
What's the point of all this? Progressive new media is black pilled on the democratic party, every good thing they do is tainted by the concessions they make to do it. If I'm watching a game of Aussie rules football, it doesn't matter how many goals the other team kicks if my team is winning in the end. It seems like Cenk and co are less concerned with their team winning, and more concerned with the other team not scoring.
IRI was great to listen to after stream last night, he outlined exactly how masterfully the democrats played the Republicans into thinking they were getting a great deal while robbing them blind, and how some Republicans were even out there bragging about negotiating and compromising with Joe Biden (as though that isn't a massive W for his political strategy)
Cenk and co are missing the forest for the trees, since the 2020 election Democrats have not dropped a single game, they're having a perfect season. Legislatively with the infrastructure bill and the safer communities act, to political wins like holding the senate and doing way better in the house than they should have, and now getting the debt ceiling increased while giving fuck all up for it, taking away the Republicans only real bargaining chip for another 2 years.
The biggest win Republicans have had this presidency was the supreme Court overruling of Roe v Wade, which democrats (and Republicans) had 0 control over and which has been fucking disastrous for Republicans electability, and there is nothing positive on the horizon for Republicans either. Right wing media is in shambles both new and old, right when we are about to enter a bloodbath between Trump and Desantis (with Chris Christie apparently coming to Stoke the flames) and on top of that the only fucking topic that Republicans care about is trans people, that's literally it. You can try to run a presidential election on hating 0.1% of the population, is just not going to fucking work. Regular people, who decide elections, simply don't give a shit.
Tldr: big rant with no sources, Cenk and co are too black pilled on the democratic party to see that the Dems have beaten the Republicans at every turn this administration.

2023.06.07 07:46 stayclassypeople The 1982-83 Bowl Season
This is the 9th post in a series going over the bowl seasons from 1974-1997. Each year I'm examining the bowls with national title implications and the teams competing for the #1 ranking. If you want to catch up on prior seasons, check out the link to the master post as well!
https://www.reddit.com/CFB/comments/13rssrf/bowls\_and\_the\_race\_for\_the\_mythical\_national/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Setting the Stage
Team | Record | AP | Coaches |
Georgia | 11-0 | 1 | 1 (34) |
Penn St | 10-1 | 2 | 2 (3) |
Nebraska | 11-1 | 3 | 3 (3) |
SMU | 10-0-1 | 4 | 4 |
*Nebraska was granted a 12th regular season game to play Hawaii at the end of the season.
Important Games: - Sept 6th: #7 Georgia avenged last years loss to #11 Clemson, 13-7.
- Sept 25: #8 Penn St defeats #2 Nebraska 27-24.
- Oct 9th: #3 Penn St lost at #4 Alabama, 21-42
- Nov 20th: SMU tied Arkansas in its final game of the season, 17-17.
- November 26th: #2 Penn St defeated #5 Pitt (9-1), 19-10
As the last unbeaten in college football, SEC champ #1 Georgia, controlled their path to win a 2nd consensus national title in 3 years. Just win the Sugar bowl and there is no argument who is #1. Penn State was #2 in both polls and accepted a bid to the Sugar creating a de facto national title game vs the Dawgs. #3 Nebraska and #4 SMU were essentially boxed out of the title race. Penn St beat Nebraska in the regular season (thanks in part due a controversial call), meaning that the Polls would almost certainly go with Penn St #1 if both teams won their bowl games. As for SMU, despite having a 0 in the loss column, it was unlikely they would leapfrog the Nittany Lions in the polls as well. I don't have this sourced, but looking at each team's resumes, it appears the pollsters valued Penn State's strength of schedule, which included ranked wins over Pitt, Nebraska and West Virginia, whereas SMU only beat 1 ranked team all season and tied the other. Additionally, if both teams won their bowl, Penn States' win over #1 Georgia would only further separate each team's resumes.
The Bowls
The Cotton Bowl #4 SMU vs #6 Pittsburgh (Jan 1st 1:30PM EST) As mentioned above, SMU's title hopes were slim, but as we all know, voters can be fickle. At a minimum, they would likely need to route, Pitt, have the Huskers lose to LSU and have Penn St beat Georgia in a sloppy game. Coincidentally, SMU found themselves in a sloppy game of their own. Neither team scored in the first half. Pitt went up 3-0 early in the 3rd, but SMU countered with an early 4th quarter TD. Pitt drove deep into SMU territory late, but QB Dan Marino threw a game sealing interception in the end zone.
Orange Bowl #3 Nebraska vs #13 LSU (Jan 1st, 8PM EST) The Huskers found themselves in a similar situation to SMU. There hopes were arguably slimmer given PSU beat them head to head. But maybe, just maybe a route of LSU would make the voters forget that. Once again, like SMU, they didn't get the style points they needed. The Huskers trailed for much of the game, and were down 17-7 in the 3rd, but rallied with 2 TDs to take a 21-17 lead. They hold on for a 21-20 victory.
Sugar Bowl #1 Georgia vs #2 Penn st (Jan 1, 8pm est)
The stage was set for a highly anticipated showdown of #1 vs #2. Georgia was led by Heisman trophy winner, Herschel Walker, and Penn St by future NFL qb, Todd Blackledge. Penn St led 7-3 after the 1st then raced to a 20-3 lead in the 2nd before Georgia stopped the bleeding with a TD to make it 20-10 PSU at the half. Georgia started with the ball in the 3rd and double dipped with another TD to cut it to 17-20. Penn St went up 10 with a 47 yard passing TD in the 4th. Georgia would again cut it to one score with a late 4th quarter TD, however, Penn St ran out the clock on the ensuing possession to hold on for a 27-23 win. After 15 years with the program, Joe Pa had was on the precipice of his first national title.
Final Results
Team | record | AP | Coaches |
Penn State | 11-1 | 1 (44) | 1 (33) |
SMU | 11-0-1 | 2 (9) | 2 (4) |
Nebraska | 12-1 | 3 (2) | 3 |
Georgia | 11-1 | 4 | 4 |
The final polls did have a mild surprise in hand, but the drama was limited to SMU jumping Nebraska for #2. Penn St was a clear cut #1 in both polls. Although Husker fans are still salty about that regular season game this day, you can't deny how impressive this Nittany Lions team was. They finished with wins over the #3, #4, and #9 teams in the final Polls en route to coach Joe Paterno delivering the program it's first national title.
Final note: Bear Bryant would retire at the end of the 82 season. His final game was a 21-15 Liberty Bowl win over Illinois on December 29th. He would pass away less than a month later due to a heart attack at the age of 69. In his 25 years, he won or shared 6 national titles as the Tide's head coach and 323 overall career wins as a coach.

2023.06.07 02:47 morgendonner [USA-MD] [H] Lots of Console + Games for Genesis, SegaCD, SNES, PS2, PS3, GameCube, Wii, PSP [W] PayPal
I'm moving and looking to downsize my collection. I can only handle selling in lots,
no piece meal single items. Everything is priced at a discount compared to the value of all of the individual items. Prices are negotiable.
Condition: With the exception of the Sega 32X and Xbox 360, every console and game has been individually tested and confirmed to be working. The Sega 32X I'm not sure if it's broken or if I'm just not connecting it correctly. The 360 power adapter needs replacing, so I cannot confirm if it will work otherwise. The PSP works but the disc tray is finicky and can pop open easily on its own. Controllers are in a range of condition, some are very used and not in the best shape.
Photos: Photo gallery link. If you want photos of a specific set, let me know and I will try and take care of that.
Location / Shipping: If buyer is in the DC, VA, MD, or possibly NJ/PA/DE areas, can meet in person to swap. Otherwise, buyer pays shipping.
If somebody takes it all that remains at once, I'll sell the remainder for $2000 + shipping.

2023.06.06 07:33 Capable-Virus-5873 Joe Flacco was the only one.
Fucking Joe Flacco. The only AFC North QB to beat the GOAT in the playoffs.
I just realized this. Ben never did it. He could never lead the Steelers past Tom Brady in the postseason. He failed. Every time. I’m a Steelers fan. Trust me, I know.
Fucking goofy Flacco though. Beats Brady and wins a ring 2 weeks later.
It’s fitting. Really.
Edit: I’m actually watching that Super Bowl right now. It’s what made me realize this. Jacoby Jones just ran it back at the start of the second half.
You can tell how that 49ers team wasn’t ready for a match of AFC North football.
Edit: annnnddddddd there’s the blackout.

2023.06.06 05:00 KirkHammettJigsaw Heyman Classic IV Qualifiers: The First Days of Disco!
| Welcome to the first round of the Heyman Classic! We’re live from the place often credited as disco’s birthplace, David Mancuso’s “The Loft”, right on 647 Broadway! This insane tournament has sixteen of the finest names in our sport, and we kick off the Age of Disco with seven incredible contests tonight! Now, before we jump in, I must remind you that while the rest of the tournament will be under double elimination rules, the first round is single elimination, essentially qualifiers. You lose, you’re out. The Loft. That’s My Eye, I Don’t Know You! British Rounds: Code Blue vs. Jay Castle Our one and only non-Heyman match of the evening! Jay Castle and Code Blue both have Heyman Classic matches, against Travis Crowley and T.M. Imran respectively, but both are taking place at WarZone. So, these two rivals are free to face off tonight. Jay Castle, desperate to put down Code Blue once and for all and usurp him, as they sit at 1-1 in their series. Code Blue, set on revenge against the man that took half of his vision away from him. Code Blue lamented not being able to use a closed fist punch on Jay Castle in their last Pure Rules contest, and Jay Castle is a skilled Pure competitor. How will all of these factors contribute to this British Rounds match? Prompt: Book a Nigel McGuinness return run (Min/Max Three Parts of 1000 words each) Two Man Sound: Desmond Caid vs. Sebastian King Two Man Sound were pioneers of Belgian Disco, but if you were to ask FBE competitors to identify which duo among our ranks would be called Two Man Sound, everybody would say Desmond Caid and Sebastian King. With Speak of the Devil and The Abortion Clinic being this place’s two auditory serials, this battle doesn’t just determine who advances to the Heyman Classic’s second round, it determines who’s the best podcaster in FBE. Will The Devil speak of victory, or will he be coat-hangered into oblivion? Prompt: Book the Blackpool Combat Club feuding with a faction of your choosing (Max One Part) Going Through These Changes: Misery vs. Nate Matthews While Joe Simon’s lyrics on “Going Through These Changes” don’t exactly fit this situation, the title couldn’t be more accurate. On one side of this matchup, we’ve got Nate Matthews, the ultimate OG, the man who became Grand Slam Champion in just seven months. He’s done almost everything there is to do here. On the other side is the newest competitor in the Heyman Classic, a recent Junior Grad, and former Junior Ace, Misery. This is old school vs. new gen at its finest. Will Nate Matthews keep the torch firmly in his grasp, or will Misery forcefully take it from him? Prompt: Book a current World Champion joining a different promotion (Max One Part) Blood and Honey: Ethan Fadely vs. Logan Wright Amanda Lear’s 1976 disco classic, “Blood and Honey”, is a tale of torturous love. That couldn’t be further from how the competitors in this match feel about each other, as there’s no love lost, but the title describes them to a tee. Blood, the evil, backstabbing snake of a man, Ethan Fadely. The Heyman-Classic winning Summer of Roses turned to an Autumn of Thorns, and an entire summer later, the roses have died. On the other side, Honey, an FBE Tag Team Champion, beloved by the fanbase. The Aether Aces vs. The Ark. Opposite ends of the spectrum, opposite ends of a feud still burning bright, but they have the same goal in mind: advancing to Round Two. Prompt: Book a wrestler winning a championship for the first time (Max One Part) Give It Up: Hunter Maguire vs. Inferno Give It Up is one of the most relevant disco songs, even to this day, as it has become a chant for soccefootball clubs all across the United Kingdom. There’s a chance that a young Inferno once sat high up in the cheap seats singing along with his countrymen, before he became the bastard of a World Champion that we have today. However, when an Irish team defeats an English one, the song is often mockingly co-opted (Case in point, the recent “Lizzie’s in a Box” chants). There’s a good chance that Hunter Maguire has pinched his nose and sang a vulgar variation at Londoners and Brummies, laughing his ass off. Only one of them will be singing the celebratory tune tonight, though. Which competitor will seize the opportunity, and which one will Give It Up? Prompt: Book a feud ending in a stipulation match that hasn’t been done in WWE/AEW/NJPW for at least five years (Max One Part) Rock The Boat: Cactus Mike vs. Kaze Tanaka The boat will be rocked, but will it tip over? Cactus Mike and Kaze Tanaka are stablemates in one of the most tight-knit factions to ever grace an FBE canvas. The Ark has not sunk yet, but one of these two competitors will, unfortunately, have to walk the plank right out of the Heyman Classic. Will Kaze Tanaka, former FBE World Heavyweight Champion, put down one of his best friends for a second round berth, or will perennial babyface Cactus Mike pull off the victory and set sail in this storied tourney? Prompt: Book a star from your opponent’s company in your company (Kaze: WCW, Mike: WWF) (Max One Part) Rise: Capital STEEZ vs. JOHN “Rise” is one of the most famous instrumental disco tracks ever. Herb Alpert’s masterpiece was tremendous on his own, but was made even more popular when Brooklyn’s Biggie Smalls sampled it in one of his biggest songs, “Hypnotize”. JOHN has a rise of his own, and that’s The RISE, the faction that he reps. However, former Heyman Classic winner Capital STEEZ is trying to pull it off again, and when he’s at his best, he’s near impossible to stop. Will JOHN pull off a Miracle in Manhattan, getting past the four-time champ and RISING to the top of the FBE mountain, or will STEEZ, less than an hour away from his home borough of Brooklyn, pull a Biggie and turn somebody else’s “Rise” into his own? Prompt: Book a wrestler in an era of WWF/WWE that they did not participate in (No Part Limit) The music stops on Friday, June 9th, at 11 PM EST. No getting off the dance floor until your bookings are posted. submitted by KirkHammettJigsaw to FantasyBookingElite [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 04:57 MaIorbas Defending the Draft 2023: Los Angeles Chargers
Preface: There’s really no way to look back at the Chargers’ 2022 season without starting at the end. The team blew a 27-0 lead to the Jaguars in the wild card round in what can only be described as the peak of decades of cruelty by the football gods directed at the Chargers. In a year that began with Super Bowl aspirations thanks to an extremely talented on-paper roster, and included a regular season of injury after injury after injury (Justin Herbert, Rashawn Slater, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, etc.), the finale could not have been more crushing. Criticism and ridicule has rained down on head coach Brandon Staley and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi,
and the latter was promptly fired at the end of the season to the rejoicing of fans everywhere. But now we begin, again. The Super Bowl hopes are very much alive. The roster saw very few changes in free agency as the front office and coaching staff clearly believe the failure of the 2022 season was generally not an issue with the assembled players. But there is a much higher sense of urgency this year, and it’s not an exaggeration to say the team is going “all in” on the final cheap year of Justin Herbert’s rookie deal. Contracts have been structured in a way that will force significant cuts after the 2023 season just to get the team to salary cap compliance. This year may be do-or-die for both Tom Telesco and Brandon Staley.
Free Agency Recap
Losses:
G Matt Feiler, LB Drue Tranquill, EDGE Kyle Van Noy, QB Chase Daniel, CB Bryce Callahan, WR Deandre Carter, S Nasir Adderley, LB Troy Reeder, DL Breiden Fehoko, WR Michael Bandy, OT Storm Norton Five starters on this list: Feiler, Tranquill, Callahan, Carter, and Adderley. Letting Drue Tranquill leave is by far the most controversial decision here, especially since he ended up going to the Chiefs. He played very well last year, but seems like the idea here is that he was a factor in the defense’s struggle against the run. Feiler was a disaster last season after a great 2021, and Jamaree Salyer should be an immediate upgrade. Callahan is still a free agent and a reunion is not out of the question. Van Noy was great as a fill-in when Bosa was injured, but the team wants to get younger at the position. Carter was a quiet signing who outperformed his contract and provided much needed depth but again, too old. Adderley was benched in the season finale and then retired. The rest were backups and rotational players.
Additions: LB Eric Kendricks, DL Nick Williams That’s it, that’s the list. Eric Kendricks steps in as the starter next to Kenneth Murray who he can hopefully help mentor into being a good linebacker. And theoretically, he will be an upgrade in run defense over Drue Tranquill. Williams was signed after the draft as insurance for the injured Austin Johnson and Otito Ogbonnia. He may not make the team. The Chargers used most of the rest of their cap space re-signing free agents like Trey Pipkins, Morgan Fox, and Donald Parham. They still have about $12.5M to work with, pending the upcoming Justin Herbert mega-deal.
Draft Needs
WR: The trio of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Josh Palmer is one of the best in the league. However, with their contracts, there’s really no chance Allen and Williams will be Chargers in 2024. This group also lacks a speed element.
EDGE: Similar to WR, the starting duo of Bosa and Mack is elite but they are expensive and getting older. The depth behind them is just Chris Rumph.
TE: Gerald Everett is solid but on the last year of his deal. Donald Parham has potential but can’t stay healthy. Tre’ McKitty is a blocking TE who isn’t a very good blocker.
CB: JC Jackson is an enormous question mark, both from a health and performance standpoint. Michael Davis is a free agent after 2023. Ja’Sir Taylor is penciled in as the starting slot corner after very limited playing time last year.
OL: This is the strongest starting five the Chargers have had in a decade but the depth behind them both inside and out is weak.
LB: Eric Kendricks and Kenneth Murray will start, but Murray is auditioning to be on the team next year and Kendricks is old. The depth behind them is just Nick Niemann and Amen Ogbongbemiga.
S: JT Woods was a 2022 3rd round pick but barely played in 2022. Alohi Gilman stepped up when needed, but relying on him to start is risky.
RB: Austin Ekeler requested a trade, and even though it looked very unlikely to happen, the team needs to think about life after him in 2024. Neither Josh Kelley or Isaiah Spiller have shown they can handle a full workload.
KPR: With Deandre Carter’s departure, the team has no one with real return experience.
The Draft
1.21: Quentin Johnston - WR, TCU In hindsight, this pick should have been more obvious. The Chargers have been very strict about their size thresholds for wide receivers over the years, and despite countless debates about Johnston vs Zay Flowers vs Jordan Addison, the big guy from TCU won out. This was an immediately controversial pick among fans as many believed the speedy Flowers or the crafty Addison would be more suited to filling the biggest need in this position group: speed and separation. But while Johnston may not be your traditional deep threat, his game speed and GPS tracking data suggest a more dynamic skillset than he showed at the combine. And one area where he does beat those two guys that was probably overlooked as a need: run after catch ability. Johnston was elite at that in college, and that looks to be his primary role for the Chargers. New OC Kellen Moore will use him like he did Ceedee Lamb in Dallas. And since he will start the year at number three on the depth chart at best, he won’t be under pressure to carry the offense as a rookie while he learns from the veterans in front of him.
2.54: Tuli Tuipulotu - EDGE, USC After WR, the Chargers’ clear next biggest need was at EDGE and Tuli was the consensus best available. The team has also shown a penchant for drafting local kids from USC and UCLA over the last few years. He was extremely productive in his final season in college where he put up 13.5 sacks playing both on the edge and the interior. In the draft process, many people questioned if he would bulk up to be a full time DT or slim down to play the EDGE. It ended up being the latter as he weighed 266lbs at the combine. Tuli will provide valuable depth behind Bosa and Mack as a rookie, while also having the opportunity to play inside on passing downs like he did in college.
3.85: Daiyan Henley - LB, Washington State The Chargers lost two linebackers to free agency: Drue Tranquill and Troy Reeder. Tranquill was the team’s best coverage linebacker, and Reeder was key depth while also being a core special teams player. Enter Daiyan Henley, who could fill both of those roles by himself. With Kenneth Murray likely off the team in 2024, Henley has the opportunity to earn a starting job over the course of the season. He is a recent convert to the linebacker position and there is still much room for growth. At the very least, he will be an immediate special teams contributor. Staley and Telesco both raved about his prowess in that phase of the game after picking him.
*
4.125: Derius Davis - WR, TCU * Another TCU receiver! This pick was definitely a surprise, as many people projected him to be a late day 3 pick. But the Chargers coaching staff said after the draft that they believed he was the best return man available, and that they wanted to draft a starter in the 4th round. Davis was indeed one of the best returners in the country at TCU, and also can add some juice on offense even if he ends up limited to a gadget role. Either way, here’s some killer speed for the Chargers offense.
5.156: Jordan McFadden - OL, Clemson In the last few drafts, the Chargers have shown a lot of love for late round tackle-to-guard converts. Jamaree Salyer was the steal of the 2022 draft in the sixth round. McFadden played both tackle and guard in college on both sides of the line, and some scouts believe he may even be able to play some center. For the Chargers he will compete with Brenden Jaimes for the swing guard role, and maybe even push Foster Sarrell to be the swing tackle. Key depth for a position group that needed it.
6.200: Scott Matlock - DL, Boise State Matlock is a solid run defender with some pass rush upside who will get to learn behind a strong trio of veteran starters. And with Austin Johnson and Otito Ogbonnia both rehabbing major knee injuries, he may end up seeing some decent playing time this season. I’m very intrigued by his upside, and Staley has a good track record of getting good play from late round DTs.
7.239: Max Duggan - QB, TCU The Los Angeles Horned Frogs are ready to take the NFL by storm in 2023 (hopefully to face the Philadelphia Bulldogs in a championship rematch). The Chargers historically have carried three QBs on the active roster, and with only two signed going into the draft, it seemed like a strong possibility they would pick one. So here’s Max Duggan, who despite leading TCU to the Natty was generally not loved by scouts. He has a ton of athletic ability but the finer points of playing QB need to be worked on. There is absolutely potential to be a long term backup to Justin Herbert though, if he can beat out Easton Stick.
Notable UDFAs Jerrod Clark - DL, Coastal Carolina: Most people expected Clark to be drafted, and the Chargers gave him a lot of money for a UDFA. I would not be surprised at all to see him make the roster as an additional run defender.
Cam Jones - CB, Ohio State: Another guy who could have been drafted, there are depth spots at corner up for grabs and Jones is an intriguing option.
Tiawan Mullen - CB, Indiana: Mullen used to have a pretty high draft stock but fell hard in the process. The Chargers are thin at slot corner and he could earn a role.
Mikel Jones - LB, Syracuse: There’s a wide open competition for ILB5 that will most likely be decided by special teams.
