2023.06.08 21:16 bubbasscheeks Should I sue Walmart for cutting pay without notice?

This one is tricky but me (m19) and my friend worked for the Walmart supply chain where we made $27 hourly. While we were there we found out about an ongoing glitch in the system that would allow us to keep $23 an hour and switch to the regular Walmart where the work is considerably easier. We switched over but HR found out about it and they closed the loophole behind us. (Rest of scenario in comments).

Turns out not using your credit is worse than over using. I’m not sure why my credit is considered “fair” when I have never missed a payment (in good standing on all thing on my credit report), and only have one credit card. 2023.06.08 20:44 KrecikBeast Is USA a bad place to live right now?

Hello im simple european guy
When i was a children i was dreaming that in my 20s im gonna move to USA and start my american dream on some big city suburbs. Right now as 24 yo person my mind changed almost 180 degrees.
I want to mark that i have never been to USA and all the facts i saw on internet, so if im saying something wrong please correct me.
So first of all iv seen hundrends of videos with people looting markets like walmart, homeless people with syringe next to the body - here example https://twitter.com/OffCyndisc/status/1664127636866580480
Im not gonna discuss gun law problems cuz i know its whole another story and different perspective from different point of views.
I also wanna ask about how your system works (i saw yt video about it and i dont know if its true). So in Europe obviously each country have own taxes law but for example:
- u get 1000$ salary per month (just an example)
10% goes for pension contribution
10% goes for health care
10% goes for kids
10% goes for other stuffs
in total u actually get not 1000$ but 600$.
but system later works
when u r old u get pension
when u r sick u go to hospital they heal you
when u get newborn child government pays you
country develops together with you cuz of your taxes.
and i hear lots of stories that in usa you go with serious problem to hospital (with insurance) however this problem wasnt covered by your insurance and later u have to pay 20k$ for your healing - is it true or myth?
i also heard that when u hit the bottom (gets unemployed) u end up fast on the streets as homeless. Later government doesnt care about you, also: is it true?

I want to mark one more time: im not hating, im not judging, im just asking. Can you tell me how sitatuon actually looks like? (not in social media). I would love to visit USA in a future, especially to see your diverse nature. Your country its so huge that it have almost everything: mountains, deserts, amazing landscapes etc. Also from popculture pov: iconic cities (New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami etc.)

2023.06.08 19:45 Gandalf031469 Some people will just fall for anything...

Summary: Victim stated that he was looking to obtain a financial loan and began speaking with a company called Advanced America. The representative from the business advised the victim that he would be able to help the victim with a loan but would first need to build up his credit score. The rep advised that the victim would need to send the company money and then the company would use the money to pay his bills. The victim provided his identifying information and bank information. A ‘supervisor’ then began communicating with the victim who advised him to send the company money in the form of Walmart gift cards. The victim complied. The supervisor then advised the victim to send money through a barcode system and bitcoin. The victim began feeling like he might be getting scammed and did not continue to make payments and the supervisor quit responding to the victim. The victim later discovered that he had been scammed out of about $30,000.

2023.06.08 19:02 Slushy69420 IC should stop certain heavy pays for Sedans

I’m talking Costco, Home Depot, Restaurant Depot, Walmart, you name it. Literally fuck you. “But OP, just don’t take the batch-“ fuck you too. IC knows which cars we have and can certainly implement a system that can calculate the EXACT weight of a heavy pay order. $5-$10 extra my ass, that’s so dehumanizing. Why am I getting Costco orders meant for a pick up truck? I’d rather be barred off from orders from a freaking bowling alley looking to stock up for cheap. Fuck you Rockway Lanes, NJ.
There’s no deliver only option anymore so that’s nice. We shop around and lug shit for (mostly) able bodied people who are capable but don’t want to cuz IC exploits people for cheap manual labor. There’s a reason they don’t order directly from the stores cuz they pay for the manpower. That’s absolutely sick. If that’s too much to ask, LET ME BE ABLE TO BLOCK STORES! I’d love to block them and it’d be the same effect.

2023.06.08 18:38 Grackle_Cackle Good job, bad coworker, what do I do?

(Ok, so let me provide a big heads up, I suck at typing out really wordy things. So I'm aware that there will be spelling/grammar errors so please bear with me.
Also be prepared to like, read a book.)

Alright, so I work part-time in O/N Maintenance.
The Poopdeck Vampires.
The Black Friday Limb Collectors.
Whatever you wanna call it. Four days a week, 8 hour shifts, constant schedule. I am very chill with this job. Of the 5 previous years of maintenance in other jobs with a dayshift, this one is my favorite.
The reasons being: There are no customers, easy set of tasks to do if you can deal with cleaning up fecal messes, you can shut off your brain and multi-task very easily without interruption, and the occasional big spills can be knocked out by the scrubber 90% of the time.
My only issue with this workplace is one co-worker. Let's call her Lisa (58f).
Let's start at the very beginning.

Months 1-3

Really smooth. My TL is super chill. Told me that the job is easy as long as the following main tasks are finished before the day is over: The floors swept and scrubbed, trash is collected and tossed, bathrooms are cleaned, breakroom and office are cleaned, the parking lot is swept. If we had extra time we could dust the apparel, pick up hangers, etc.
For our staff we had Lisa, Tom (29m? Never got to know his age so this is an assumption. Also hired a month before me), some dude that got fired for getting his 5th point, and me.
When I started, I asked if there was a direct to-do list because my previous maintenance jobs had a setup to ride through the day without trouble. Lisa told me that we didn't need it because the tasks were that easy and interchangeable. Cool?
Two months in we lost a guy because he was riding that sweet 4.5 and crashed. Rest it peace man, hope that promotion is doing him well.
We had a lot of struggles and close calls before the shifts ended, but they weren't too bad. Lisa was nice and spoke a lot to keep the shift swift and easy, and Tom was super chill.
I did get a warning from one of the stock clerks though. They told me this: "Don't let Lisa bully you too much".
With like.
A serious tone.
I brushed that off because Lisa was nice to me at the time.

Months 3-6

This is where Tom and I get familiar with the job. We're still trying to get the main tasks done and started to notice that the reason why we were getting many close calls to not finishing main tasks (or just skipping a few) is because Lisa has been doing things unrelated to the main tasks or just, uh, chilling around and talking to the stock clerks or people from the other departments. She's been working in the store for 7 years so... She knows best... right?
Management chewed out our TL and that carried down to Lisa. So Lisa ended up blaming Tom and I for not doing our jobs well enough. She claimed to be the voice of management and telling us to do things that we thought management wanted us to do.
This kinda applied pressure to the team and stressed us the fuck out.
We also saw that Lisa has just not been doing any of the main tasks so Tom and I had a talk with our TL. Turns out that Lisa has been using our TL and SM as an excuse to do some of her tasks for her or overreacted simple requests and made them sound mandatory.
After a bit of this, the pressure got Tom who eventually caved in and broke down into tears at the workplace 3/4ths in the shift. This was because Tom and Lisa agreed to meet up after last break to clear the lot, but Lisa was gone, the scrubber was gone, we put 2-2 together and he asked me to help him after 10-15 mins. We needed to sweep the parking lot ASAP. So we did it and Tom got this text message (imo dumb idea to exchange phone #'s with co-workers but that's just me), and Lisa texted a stupid paragraph about fairness and stuff. We went inside and she chewed him the fuck out even though we explained to her that we needed the lot to be finished. It was a main task.
So I confronted Lisa, trying to be neutral and say "Hey, this is not ok". She deflected that and said that "Oh, Tom needs to be a man and talk to me like you are right now. You guys needs to do your jobs.". I told her that she hasn't been doing her tasks either and being a hypocrite about it, she deflected "I'm not a hypocrite! I'm just doing my job and helping my co-workers do theirs."
This got me to put my foot down and tell the TL what happened (they even saw the text message), and that we needed a to-do list.
I kept nudging them to get it done ASAP and then bam. We had a list. Tom has also moved to shifts where he'd only wax the floors on the days Lisa and I worked. Otherwise, he's just working with TL. This leaves me to work with Lisa every day.
So the list goes as followed for only Lisa and I.
For days 1 and 3, one of us is tasked with
while the other is tasked to
Days 2 and 4 we swap.
Easy, right? You can't possibly fuck up a LIST of MANDITORY things TO DO.
A month or two later, she started doing other unrelated tasks and stressed us out. We'd nudge her to get back on track and she'll just ignore us and continue talking to people from other departments for like, 20-40 minutes. Sometimes she'd take the tasks that she did the previous day and made us repeat tasks, which I'm fine with. So I'll ignore that.
You can tell Tom lost his will to keep this job because the maintenance room has been progressively getting messier as weeks went by with wax thrown everywhere too.
Right before my vacation in December, Lisa pitched a fit about how lazy and unproductive we were and I just left it to Tom because I was not having it.
Lisa's been causing trouble monthly.
Fuck Lisa.

Months 6-12 (Now)

After coming back from my vacation, nothing changed, Tom and I would always pray that Lisa calls out and when she does, the stock clerks and TLs from the O/N stocking department will always see us in our best moods.
I still followed the list that I had our TL make in the previous few months. It's good to get the job done right away and the best thing I can do.
Lisa has somewhat started following the list too-ish? Barely? Idfk. I wasn't moving from this list.
Cue January 29th of this year.
-Day started with her not taking care of the breakroom trash. Ok fine. She's probably going to do it later on that day.
-I took the scrubber out and scrubbed the floors. Saw her in the cooler section doing something, idfc. Finished a chunk of the store and parked the scrubber to charge. I didn't drain it yet btw, I was going to do that after lunch. The trash was still in the breakroom.
-I came back from lunch to this dirty pile of pallet chips and hair fluff that you could easily tell came from the drain, placed neatly on the chair of the scrubber. So I asked Lisa, "Did you do this?" and she responded "Yeah, because somebody hasn't been cleaning the drain top, and there's only one person using the scrubber that could produce that kind of dirt".
I was irritated, because I did not drain the machine yet and she insisted it wasn't me. I tossed the dirt away.
-So I finished scrubbing and started sweeping. Then I saw what Lisa was doing. She was helping a stocker pull expired meat out of the cooler and casually chit-chatting. I went up to her and said "What are you doing? Why are you doing this?", she said "I'm pulling expired meat since I have nothing better to do". I got really irritated and told her the same tone she's been telling me to do shit, to knock out the trash in the break room.
She went to the back and took care of it, only to come back to me and say I was being very rude and disrespectful.
A vein just popped in my brain.

I told myself "you know what? it's obvious talking to her solves nothing".
So I just shut up, and never spoke to her "again".
I told my TL that I'm not having this. Then they told me to avoid Lisa as much as possible and that the other TLs will be aware that I want nothing to do with her, and look at that.
5 months of avoiding direct interactions with her and ignoring her, and things were even more productive! Less stress! Of course she still did her thing every now and then and tried to spite me silently by not doing the trash or tried to get me to talk to her, but it didn't give me an aneurism.
Heck, one of the stock TLs caught her eating chicken at a register while on the clock when he was calling her through the announcements for a big spill. It was funny to hear!!!

Then last month Tom was fired for doing something dumb and now Lisa and I are stuck alone for two days together. My schedule was slightly changed though, so I work with the maintenance TL and a new employee for the other two days with no problems at all.
Today, Lisa was trying to pry me to talk and chit-chat with her and the only thing I told her was "Not after the stuff you've pulled January and before". She's pitching a fit about talking to SM about it but at this point I somewhat just don't care. We also had another new employee btw. Poor guy.
Ofc the whole silent treatment thing is not a great way to go, but for Lisa, it did a lot since all she does is talk.
I like this job very much (not like the fullest because, let's be real, it's Walmart), but it made my life and side job much easier to handle.
I was hoping to wait it out till she retires because she'd always talk about retiring after this year.
What do I even do at this point before I go violence mode or some shit?

[EDIT]
TL;DR Have a co-worker who thinks she's top shit, is very dismissive, hypocritically blames ppl for not doing their jobs, got a co-worker to cry, made me silent on her for months, and she's still here despite this book being described to my TL.

2023.06.08 17:55 MyMiddleNameIsMartin Trying to find a job right now sucks.

So I am a recent college graduate, and am looking at mostly part time work for the summer before I go to a full time job based on my degree. I also have some part time work this summer related to my degree so I'm looking for something that is part time to supplement it as it's unfortunately not enough income to support my needs right now.
But as I'm looking I gotta say, Holy shit do these jobs fucking suck.
Places that just don't even reply when you've sent in your application. (I've been using Indeed) and the number of places that allow you to quickly apply through Indeed, but then send you an email with their real application where they want all the same information that you have on your profile. Let alone half the jobs on there already link to an outside site where you still have to fill in all the same information anyway.
Then you have jobs that reach out because you applied to something similar. Which sounds nice in theory, but then they send these messages about jobs and you're like hmm okay let me check it out! The job 9 times out of 10 sucks. And they're reaching out to try to get you signed on for them! I'm talking jobs where they aren't listing the hours accurately (usually way less than advertised), and the pay is usually $9-$12 and hour (I saw $9 an hour for a tutoring position, but they required you have a teaching cert), and they're all happy like "come join us, we think you'd be a great fit!" Like no.
Then the other end of that is the jobs that do pay $14/$15 or more per hour want your soul. I've seen some that have legitimate wanted full time availability for part time hours. And some have even said so in their listings. Let alone the fact that half the jobs that are paying this much are either health services (nursing, in home health aid, dieticians, etc) or are things that you need some sort of special certification for that you already would've needed to go to school or studied specially for it in order to get that special cert.
I'm lucky enough that my parents are still cool with me living with them for now until I can afford to get out on my own and all, but how the hell can anyone do that when even the average grocery store jobs (like stockecashier) are going for $10/$11 an hour?

2023.06.08 16:42 Aggressive-Pen-604 It is time to created a Union in Ft. Collins.

No one wants to work for spark and now there is not enough drivers, sending drivers from their area far away to complete other Walmart orders 9 miles away plus add 12 + more when you get there to deliver. Not counting on your drive back to your zone. Ding drivers with their metrics with a timer is wrong spark! First you can't make in time , second more miles with no pay, third you can't expect drivers to drive 20 miles with 2 orders and pay 8-11 dollars. If they want to do that at least keeps us close to our zone so we can make it time for the next hour. Sorry I have to update my comment. I was angry and didn't make sense earlier. Maybe I still don't.

2023.06.08 13:25 TheCoastalCardician Have AT&T prepaid? Want iPhone 14 Pro? Don’t go to Best Buy.

Went to Walmart at 8am, “I’m not allowed to sell one without the OML guys here and even then it doesn’t work with prepaid.”
Best Buy around noon: “we cannot sell iPhone 14 Pro to a prepaid account.” I truly thought there was some miscommunication because the associate was so rude. Maybe I accidentally insulted his intelligence when asking him “why can’t you sell me an iPhone 14 Pro” instead of just accepting it? This forced him to radio his manager and say “can we finance iPhone 14 Pro to a prepaid account” I had to remind him I’m paying in full and maybe he should tell his manager this (you know, the truth).
“Go tell him yourself!” walks away to help another customer
So, I did. At that point I was more concerned about how I was treated but I had to still ask why they couldn’t sell me a phone. The short of it: Best Buy has a thing worked out with the carriers for postpaid contracts only. They are literally not set up for it.
At this point I just drove to the Apple Store. Over an hour drive (why I didn’t go in the first place). It was impossible to bring my spirits down that day, but I might’ve felt a little “poor” after leaving Best Buy, but it was more shock then anything.
I love this phone! I had to take the phone to the AT&T store to get the eSIM set up. Seems like it was too easy for a store like Best Buy to NOT be able to do. Weird af. I’ve learned I’m never shopping at Best Buy ever again.
Posting here just in case someone is in the same position. Cheers. :)
PS: I called Walmart the night before and Best Buy on the way that day making sure I could come in and purchase this way.

2023.06.08 12:51 LGBTQIA_Over50 Help- what places hire middle aged women with experience? USA

I have multi-industry skills and advanced degrees. I can leave off the advanced degree and keep one on the resume.
I need income now. I can't get hired into survival, barely get by, gas money jobs. Yet I need gas and food money now.
"But you won't stay, so why should we hire you when you'll look somewhere else?"
Is pan handling the alternative?
I have to eat, maintain a car, pay credit card balance, car insurance renewal, have a place to live. That isn't possible on a $20/hour job.
$20/hour equals $16/hour net minus dental care and benefits
"You should apply to the professional leadership jobs"
True, but I can't get those. We are dealing with anti credentialism now (Google it). That means those who spent years developing critical thinking skills are unemployable because if a manager interviews me and I have too much education and they don't have any, they'll hire their friend.
I can't do physical labor. Yet I applied for a passenger conductor job at Amtrak. Will they hire me? I dunno. I can walk and talk with people. I can't lift very heavy machine equipment. I have all the office, technology and professional business skills.
I need an income to cover an apt, utilities, a car, insurance, gas, food, clothes, dental and medical care. One root canal and crown is $3,800. My one car repair cost $1,800.
What is the "get a job to bring in money while you keep looking?"
Employers won't hire me if I work at McDonald's. McDonald's won't hire me period. I can't do fast food work because it requires janitorial work, doing the work of more than one person when people call out, high stress on low pay, and no way to pay for an apt to have a place to live.
Hotels won't hire me. I applied for general manager, but those jobs are filled by 20 and 30 year olds. Pay is $55-$60k minus taxes and benefits. Night auditor, and front desk are the equivalent to fastfood gas money, customer facing, demanding, "hurry up I need to go ma'am," demanding jobs.
The local Walmart has non English speaking people. They won't hire me. They are work opportunity tax credit hires (Google WOTC).
Starbucks is too fast paced and chaotic between mobile orders, drive thru window and having to wear a one sided ear piece headset at all times (i can't do that while walking and talking to customers face to face while the ear piece is on).
I need something with early morning hours, that is safe and will pay me more than $20/hour.
Please help me with ideas. I am aging out of the workforce and no one wants to hire me due to my age. There are a lot of scammer ads on Reddit and Indeed.
I'll be panhandling soon due to lack of pay. I can't wait tables or bartend. Thats too fast paced and chaotic like Starbucks.
Temp agencies can't market me because they are sales people who have no industry experience. I worked in HR and staffing companies aren't HR people. They market work opportunity tax credit hires to save the employers money and those employers general terminate the assignments on a whim. Staffing agencies are glorified pimps.
I don't need to prove my value. I have value. Employers want to pay cheap and force people to cohabitate. My resumes are well written, down to one page, and customized to the job. If people get jobs based on who they know, then my resume won't do anything.
What ideas do you have, and I'll respond intermittently.

2023.06.08 07:07 Iamhere2vent_ Never used spark but I have an active account and plan to take orders tomorrow morning

I am not sure what to expect. I do instacart & shipt so I’m familiar with shop and deliver and pick up and deliver but Walmart is new. I need some money and the pay with instacart is really poor some times so I’m hoping for something better. I’ve been looking at the orders that came through today and I see a lot of bulk orders of 18-19?? Insane. I want to understand better what to expect if I accept an order like that or what can I expect as far as I pay (estimate or average) if I work a full 8-10 hour day tomorrow. Any advice is welcome!

2023.06.08 06:54 Icy_Plenty_7117 I need to get something off of my chest fellow Dads

This isn’t necessarily a Dad thing, I reckon it kind of is because my daughter initiated the interaction, but mostly I’m sharing here because this might be the only pure place in the internet. I’m not a big emotions guy, sometimes it’s my superpower when shit hits the fan and I’m the only one keeping it together, the downside is I rarely deal with things like I should, i compartmentalize, ignore and bury things.m, which is obviously not good and I know that.
Ok, so my daughter is 18 months old. She’s in this stage where she CAN say Hi but she really prefers to give people a big huge smile and an ear piercingly loud squeal, which then makes herself giggle. This evening is was pushing her in the buggy at Walmart in the refrigerated section where the cheese is. My wife was going down her list while I entertained the kid. There was an older gentleman on one of the store’s handicapped scooters coming towards us, my daughter made eye contact, smiled, banshee screamed and then giggled. I smiled and said “how are you this evening”. He half nodded and said something about his phone being missing and be was digging in his pockets. I assumed he meant missing but on his body or on the scooter. I go back to our regular scheduled shopping.
A few minutes later he comes by again, looks frantic and is clearly searching and retracing his path. My daughter is now being fussy and my wife is dealing with her so I asked him if he is still missing his phone. He said yes and seems quite concerned. So I unlocked my phone, opened it to the dial pad and handed it to him to call his phone. He seemed shocked but dialed, I heard it ringing and jogged towards the sound. It had fallen and slid under the shelf, he never would have found it just by looking. I brought it back to him…and he cried. Sobbing really, thanked me profusely, we exchanged names and through the crying he managed to say he was glad there was still good people in the world. Now my kid is full on having a meltdown, so I shake his hand again, asks if he’s good now and ran off to catch up to my family.
I didn’t think much about it at the time. The crying surprised me but I was so focused on my wife desperately trying to explain to my daughter that no, she didn’t need a package of raw chicken legs and then the meltdown that it didn’t really sink in. Until now, when everyone is asleep and I’m by myself. I know the world is a crazy place and people do terrible things to each other, but kindness isn’t gone. And I don’t mean me, this isn’t me looking for an attaboy, small acts of kindness happen all over, especially if you are paying attention, and while the news is all bad I think people as a whole are mostly good.
I don’t know what that man had been through today, or this year or in his life. He looked to be late 50s/early 60s, there’s a lot of life experience in that many years. But what prompted the strong reaction? The potential financial impact of losing a very nice smart phone (fancier then my couple year old iPhone), was be relying on the phone to call for a ride home? Was he worried about someone finding the phone and getting in to banking apps or something? Had he had bad experiences and a good one was shocking? Was there a special picture of a loved one on the phone? Was it my trusting him to hold my phone while I go get his? (Because it did cross my mind as I jogged off to go find his phone, that a stranger now had mine, but I wasn’t worried about him trying anything, plus even if he was faking needing a scooter I still could easily catch him). Was there an added layer of shock because he was an older black, possibly mixed race man and I’m white, 35, bald headed with a long beard and armfuls of tattoos? I’ve lived in the rural south my entire life and while racism absolutely happens still, and personal experience varies, I’ve never acted any less friendly and chatty or helpful to strangers based on skin color (or anything else) and never had a reaction like that.
I know that only that old man holds the answers to my questions, and that’s ok. I’m really just needing to type this out, to process it in my head, and try to understand why I’m feeling SO MANY emotions, I’m tearing up right now. Something about HIS reaction is really getting to me now that the house is quiet. Be kind to strangers, offer a helping hand, and let’s raise our kids in a way that one day nobody has to be shocked that there are good people. Thank you to anyone that reads all of my rambling.
