Venue between MD and VA
2023.06.08 20:43 IndecisiveLlama Venue between MD and VA
Long time lurker, first post :)
Currently live in SW VA, we are both from the DC suburbs. We had a very small Covid wedding and are hoping to have our big event for our 5th anniversary and need a good venue.
Requirements are that it can hold up to 400 guests, allow outside caterers (this is flexible tbh) and is somewhat close (within 2 hrs drive) of both DC/MD and SW Va. due to the fact that we have family/friends in both locations with disabilities that would limit them to car travel and only a 1-2 day event. Thinking of Charlottesville as a halfway point but open to other ideas as well! No budget restrictions.
Thanks in advance!!

2023.06.08 20:33 jungfan123 For people new to Sheffield and in town for the gigs - I’m a Hillsborough local, here’s some answers to frequently asked questions! AMA in the comments!
Hope you all enjoy visiting our city!!
”How shall I get around?” You can get taxis on Uber or City Taxis (our local firm, they have their own Uber style app), or download the app Moovit for live public transport info. Trams are generally more reliable than buses.
”Where shall I go for a drink tonight?” If you’re staying in the city centre, get yourself down to the Frog and Parrot (‘The Parrot’s Beak’ from Cornerstone) - they’ve got a nice outside seating area and have done the place up Arctic Monkeys themed for the gigs! Kelham Island (on the way out to Hillsborough from the city centre) also has some great bars and pubs. The Gardener’s Rest is a classic pub with riverside seating, and Riverside is great too. Heist has a great selection of local beers.
Hillsborough also has some brilliant pubs and micropubs. The Northern Monkey is my favourite, good prices and it’s got a great back room with a speaker you can connect to and plenty of games (also look out for the Alex Turner monkey mural!). There’s also a massive Wetherspoons right next to the tram stop with a huge garden, but please try to support our local businesses while you’re here!
”How shall I get to and from the gig tomorrow/Saturday?” I’d advise getting the tram into Hillsborough (yellow route towards Middlewood or blue route towards Malin Bridge) early afternoon to hopefully avoid the inevitable huge crowds. You can download the app Moovit to get public transport info.
You pay on the tram, the conductor will come round. It’s £2 for a single or £3.70 for a return, and you can pay contactless, card or cash (cash preferred). The tram company’s advised that if you want to get the tram back at the end of the night, you should get a return now to avoid holding things up.
They’ve said it could take up to two hours to get the tram back into the city centre after, so another option is to walk back into town. It’s about an hour but there’ll be a whole load of people doing it and it should be a laugh! Alternatively, go and have a drink in Hillsborough before making your way back into town.
”Where shall I go after the gig?” Into town (the city centre). Maida Vale plays Monkeys style music, but everyone I know is going to the Leadmill afterparty. The Leadmill is an iconic venue in Sheff, the Monkeys played there a lot when they were getting started. They’re shutting down the whole road and having a massive Monkeys themed street party on both Friday and Saturday night! You can get tickets here:
https://leadmill.co.uk/event/arctic-monkeys-after-party-friday/ ”Where shall I eat?” Kommune is a great food hall in Kelham Island, there’ll be something for everyone there. There’s honestly so much great food in Sheffield it’s hard to choose what to recommend though! We have loads of authentic Asian food here because of the massive student population, so it’s worth having a try of some of that! Henderson’s Relish is our local delicacy, but you’ll want that on a pie not on it’s own 😂 If you comment with a particular cuisine you fancy and your rough location, I’ll come up with a recommendation!
”What shall we do in the morning before the gig?” You could have a mooch around the Millennium Gallery, the Winter Gardens, or go have a look round the lovely independent shops on Division Street!
Let me know if you have any other questions!

- Governing Law
These Official Rules, and any action related thereto, will be governed by the Federal Arbitration Act, federal arbitration law and the laws of the State of California without regard to conflict of laws provisions. Except as otherwise expressly set forth in Section 15 “Dispute Resolution and Arbitration” the exclusive jurisdiction for all Disputes (defined below) that you and ZAM are not required to arbitrate will be the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California and you and ZAM each waive any objection to jurisdiction and venue in such courts.
- Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
- Mandatory Arbitration of Disputes. We each agree that any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Official Rules or the breach, termination, enforcement, interpretation or validity thereof or participation in the Contest (collectively, “Disputes”) will be resolved solely by binding, individual arbitration and not in a class, representative or consolidated action or proceeding. You and ZAM agree that the U.S. Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of these Official Rules, and that you and ZAM are each waiving the right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action. This arbitration provision shall survive termination of these Official Rules.
- Exceptions. As limited exceptions to Section 15(a) above: (i) we both may seek to resolve a Dispute in small claims court if it qualifies; and (ii) we each retain the right to seek injunctive or other equitable relief from a court to prevent (or enjoin) the infringement or misappropriation of our intellectual property rights.
- Conducting Arbitration and Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (the “AAA Rules”) then in effect, except as modified by these Official Rules. The AAA Rules are available at www.adr.org or by calling 1-800-778-7879. A party who wishes to start arbitration must submit a written Demand for Arbitration to AAA and give notice to the other party as specified in the AAA Rules. The AAA provides a form Demand for Arbitration at www.adr.org. Any arbitration hearings will take place in the county (or parish) where you live, unless we both agree to a different location. The parties agree that the arbitrator shall have exclusive authority to decide all issues relating to the interpretation, applicability, enforceability and scope of this arbitration agreement.
- Arbitration Costs. Payment of all filing, administration and arbitrator fees will be governed by the AAA Rules, and we won’t seek to recover the administration and arbitrator fees we are responsible for paying, unless the arbitrator finds your Dispute frivolous. If we prevail in arbitration we’ll pay all of our attorneys’ fees and costs and won’t seek to recover them from you. If you prevail in arbitration you will be entitled to an award of attorneys’ fees and expenses to the extent provided under applicable law.
- Injunctive and Declaratory Relief. Except as provided in 13(b) above, the arbitrator shall determine all issues of liability on the merits of any claim asserted by either party and may award declaratory or injunctive relief only in favor of the individual party seeking relief and only to the extent necessary to provide relief warranted by that party’s individual claim. To the extent that you or we prevail on a claim and seek public injunctive relief (that is, injunctive relief that has the primary purpose and effect of prohibiting unlawful acts that threaten future injury to the public), the entitlement to and extent of such relief must be litigated in a civil court of competent jurisdiction and not in arbitration. The parties agree that litigation of any issues of public injunctive relief shall be stayed pending the outcome of the merits of any individual claims in arbitration.
- Class Action Waiver. YOU AND ZAM AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. Further, if the parties’ Dispute is resolved through arbitration, the arbitrator may not consolidate another person’s claims with your claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this specific provision is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this Dispute Resolution and Arbitration section shall be null and void.
- Severability. With the exception of any of the provisions in Section 15(f) (“Class Action Waiver”), if an arbitrator or court of competent jurisdiction decides that any part of these Official Rules is invalid or unenforceable, the other parts of these Official Rules will still apply.
- Languages. These Official Rules may be made in multiple language versions. In the event of a dispute as to the terms of different language versions, the English version shall prevail.
- Country Specific Notices.
- If any provision of these Official Rules is invalid under the law, rules, or regulations of a particular country, it will only apply to the extent permitted.
- No Affiliation with Social Media Channels.
- This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with, any of the social media channels used in connection with this Contest. This year I have come up with a new system of selecting runs that isn't exactly first come first serve (though being on time for sign up window is still really important), so you all don't have to sweat speed filling out the application like an ebay auction ha. I'll explain the selection process at the bottom of this post. Like last year there will be an in person component to the event and this time around I'll have a couch camera going on like agdq and so forth ha, so that should be pretty cool. In order to pay for the venue for the two days, I am running a donation drive with the goal of $700. Please Please, if you are a fan of shmup slam, donate what you can to this goal as soon as possible ... otherwise me paying out of pocket for the venue is going to blow up my finances. I am going to keep a very detailed and up to date donation tracker on THIS SPREADSHEET, so you can see how much has been donated. If you don't want your name to appear on your donation for some reason, just make a note of that :-) Also throughout the stream I'll run a credit reel with the names and amounts that everyone has donated to the event. If you want to contribute past the venue fee, what I'll do with any additional money is purchase equipment for the irl event that I need (like some gaming monitors, last year I had to scrape up crappy monitors for thrift stores ha). At the end of the event I'll release a budget of what the donation money was spent on. DONATE HERE: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/ElectricUP Explanation of This Year's Run Selection Process So I have given this a lot of thought, and I think I have devised a very fair new method of selecting runs for shmup slam. What I'll do is that I'll sort through all the runs that have been submitted, look through their time availability and all that, and I will personally choose about 30% of the runs based on metrics like how difficult is the run, how unique, am I really wanting to see it basically. Also the in person submissions are guaranteed, since they took the trouble to actually come to the event in person which is super cool. P.S. I won't be doing a run this year since I want to give that slot to the public at large. In this process I will also filter out runs that I think there might be some kind of scheduling concerns with (like if your run is really long or not matching up with the event, but don't worry if I have a concern about your run on these grounds I'll message you about it to try and see if we can get it to fit or not), However, after I have selected the 30% of my chosen runs, and then filtered through the remaining viable submissions (and remember you don't need to be a superplayer to submit to slam, you just need a run that is personally challenging to you and has some stakes), then the remaining 70% will be placed on a spreadsheet and will be chosen lottery style ha. I will use a random number generator to then select from the remaining candidates. I will also stream this lottery process so that should be pretty entertaining I hope ha. So that is how the runs will be selected this year. I'm stoked. -Mark MSX submitted by Mark_MSX to ElectricUnderground [link] [comments] |

2023.06.08 19:41 GodzillaTechHero Complaint letter to LIVENATION
LiveNation
Customer Service Department
Subject: Complaint Regarding Horrible Parking Experience at Dead and Company Shows
Dear LiveNation Customer Service,
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the abysmal parking situation at the Dead and Company shows this summer.
As a dedicated fan of the band and a frequent concertgoer, I have historically held LiveNation in high regard for its commitment to providing enjoyable and memorable live music experiences. However, the recent parking ordeal has left me and many other fans utterly dissatisfied!
I attended several Dead and Company shows this summer, including the performances at Phoenix, Arizona.
Unfortunately, the experience of getting into the parking lots was nothing short of a nightmare. Many fans were left to endure long hours of waiting in traffic on the freeway, with some never even making it into the show. It was disheartening to witness people being forced to abandon their vehicles on the freeway ramp and walk long distances of a mile or two just to reach the venue!
Furthermore, the waiting time to enter the venue itself was an ordeal in its own right. Fans were made to endure multi-hour queues, standing under the scorching sun with no shade or protection from the elements. This lack of consideration for the well-being of your patrons is deeply troubling. It not only poses a risk to their health and safety but also undermines the overall concert experience that LiveNation is renowned for.
Adding to the unpleasantness of the parking experience was the severe shortage of restroom facilities!
In Phoenix, for instance, a venue that accommodates thousands of concertgoers, only a couple of portable toilets were provided. This inadequate provision of toilets is unacceptable and disrespectful to your customers. It is unreasonable to expect a large crowd, who have been sold copious amounts of beverages, to endure such discomfort and resort to relieving themselves between parked cars. This is not only unsanitary but also demonstrates a lack of planning and consideration for the basic needs of your attendees.
I strongly urge LiveNation to address these issues promptly and take necessary steps to rectify the parking situation at Dead and Company shows. Here are a few suggestions that I believe would greatly improve the overall experience:
Open the facilities and parking lots earlier: By extending the opening hours, you can alleviate traffic congestion and allow fans to enter the venue in a more organized and timely manner.
Provide adequate restroom facilities: Ensure that there are a sufficient number of clean and accessible toilets to cater to the needs of the concert attendees. This will enhance the comfort and hygiene standards of your events.
Implement effective traffic management strategies: Work in conjunction with local authorities to develop efficient traffic management plans, reducing congestion on the freeways and ensuring smooth entry into the parking lots.
Communicate updates and instructions: Provide timely and accurate information to concertgoers regarding parking procedures, traffic conditions, and any potential delays or changes. This will help manage expectations and reduce frustration among fans.
I believe that by implementing these suggestions, LiveNation can significantly improve the parking experience at future Dead and Company shows, enhancing the overall satisfaction of your loyal fans. As a customer who values LiveNation's commitment to delivering exceptional live music experiences, I hope that you will take this feedback seriously and make the necessary changes.
I look forward to a positive response from LiveNation regarding these concerns. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

2023.06.08 18:56 Turkinator0917 Keeping Pork Butt hot for Community Event
Hi everyone! I was tasked with cooking for an upcoming community event that will take place at a local park. I was asked to provide lunch and dinner and they will cover all the costs. My idea was to cook hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch, simple and easy to carry, and have a large taco bar for dinner, thinking street tacos. I want to use pork butt because it tastes good and is relatively easy to smoke/cook ahead of time. I know if it would be feasible to reheat the precooked meat at the park using the charcoal grills provided at the pavilion. (If it helps, this will be used to feed about 30 people)

2023.06.08 18:55 milesteggolah Crew/band meal getting skipped
I know you're not supposed to bring in outside food or drinks to catered venues. And I understand vendor staff, including us live sound techs, shouldn't eat or drink while working. I'm wondering how/when/what the heck we're supposed to eat. Both me and my main A2 are vegetarian. When they don't offer veg options we get so hungry by the end of the night - and were the ones that stay til 1am for breakdown then drive home and hour. We need to be able to find a way to eat something at some point in the night. We can't exactly take a break when the event is over, not can I leave the tablet for speeches when the band eats their meat entrees. At a corp gig now. Got in line with their employees and walked by all the BBQ and chicken, set back up now I'm starvin watching all these people eat and listen to the worst professional development speaker I've ever heard. Can we start having pizza delivered? Is it ok to eat my own sandwich while I babysit the speakers and house music? There's 12 people with the band eating, so when there's no veg options, we don't get sympathy because they just served 12 free filet mignons to rude musicians

2023.06.08 18:48 SweetLeoLady33 Making peace with wedding disappointment.
I had a pretty nice wedding, probably above average budget, we spent about 75k. However, some of the elements that I wish were captured in the day just were not. I don’t think my planner fully understood my vision, nor do I think she executed the modern aesthetic very well. I cheaped put on the planner so that’s on me.
Every time I see photos at my wedding venue that look more like what I wish my wedding would’ve looked like, I get really sad. The day went well without any major mishaps or weather events & everyone got along, it was also very fun. It looked nice, it just wasn’t the look that I had in my imagination, and by no means, took my breath away.
How do you get over the feeling of disappointment when it wasn’t really bad, it just wasn’t what you envisioned your dream day to be?
It’s especially disheartening when I see other people’s beautiful weddings that actually do take my breath away.

2023.06.08 18:43 notyourdingus We are DJing a wedding Saturday but the bride has given us no info!!!
I’ll try to keep it short! My friend and I run a small Wedding DJ business. We are fairly budget friendly and have had the chance to work with a lot of amazing couples!
Here’s my current situation…. I have had a bride contracted since October 2022 and throughout this time she’s been so hard to get ahold of. I’ve called, texted, and emailed her many times. Even the initial booking was tough… I sent 4 emails over 4 weeks to get a deposit after a signed contract in the beginning.
Now she is paid in full and we are set to do the wedding this Saturday but the problem is we have no information! I mean 0. She changed the venue but never sent us the address… we ask for songs, timeline, and itinerary 30 days before and it even speaks to this in our contract and we have nothing. I usually give a little bit of wiggle room with this but now it’s 2 days before and she has stopped responding to myself and my business partner about the event for mon
We don’t even know the address!!!! We’ve been asking for a meeting and paperwork for weeks now and nothing… I don’t want this person to have no music or entertainment but at this point I’m not sure what I should do.
I also don’t have her significant other’s information and she’s not on social media what so ever so I have no other forms of contact besides email and phone.

The Nations Cup is the second LAN organized in the Heroes International series, after the first tournament in Miami last year. This time the event takes place in Europe, at the
XPERION Arena in Berlin, and each team is a national team of players from the same country - four teams from EU, one from the Americas, and one from Asia. They will compete for a prize pool of at least $5000. Matches will be played with Meta Madness rules - each hero can only be picked once in a series, and a few most popular heroes from the qualifiers are pre-banned for the entire tournament. The participating teams are:
- United States: Kure, LegacY, Liam, Madara, Unaverted
- South Korea: Crow, Hide, Kcb, kirisaku, Lockdown
- Germany: Deathknight, Dynouh, HasuObs, Nic, Ultralisk
- Sweden: Henn1ng, Jia, lauber, Skogh, Svamp
- France: BananaH, Daykwaza, Mascarade, Nagrom, yasu
- Poland: Alvarus, itrax, Lavekall, RydzuSA, Twice
Entry for spectators at
XPERION Berlin is free and the venue opens at 10am. The entire event will be live streamed at
Khaldor's Twitch channel with Khaldor, Trikslyr, and Bahamut casting, JoyK joining as an interviewer, and Transparent observing the games.
Additional community streams in different languages should be available too.
The event is partially funded through a
GoFundMe campaign from which the funds go towards covering travel and hotel costs, increasing the prize pool, etc. Also, for every $1000 raised, one more hero is pre-banned for the entire tournament - currently that's 6 heroes: Blaze, Brightwing, Rehgar, Genji, Johanna, Anduin.
