2023.05.29 02:51 Indoctrinator Speedbooster math on MTF

I just want a clarification on some of the math involved when using full frame lenses with a speedbooster on MFT.
If I mount a 85mm f1.8 full frame lens (f-mount) on a MFT camera (GH5) with a .71 speed booster, that “turns” the lens into a 60.35mm f1.278.
Now when I mount this on the GH5 does it keep those specs or do I still need to multiply my focal length by 2 and increase by 2 stops like when factoring the full frame equivalent for MFT? (Where a 12-35 f2.8 MTF lens is equivalent to a 24-70 5.6 full frame lens.)
So is the 85mm f1.8 lens (with .71 speedbooster) on MTF a:
60mm f1.2, or a 120mm f2.4 full frame equivalent?

Shooting football with a manual lens - Canon nFD 300mm f2.8 on a Fuji XT3
I recently pulled the trigger on a Canon nFD 300mm f2.8 lens (I plan on using it with my film cameras) but decided to test it out… during a MLS match 😅. I used it with my Fuji XT3 and yes, i got a lot of photos out of focus, but the ones where i nailed the focus are sharper than I expected. Image is tad flatter compared to my Fuji lenses, so I had to bump the contrast a little bit. Beyond that I’m really impressed with how it performs.

2023.05.29 01:35 lirdleykur 7-15 June trip - seeking itinerary, hiking, and packing advice!

Hi friends! My partner and I are headed out for a 9-day trip next week, arriving early on the 7th and leaving the evening of the 15th. We were originally hoping to do some hiking in Landmannalaugar and Kerlingarfjöll but looking at road openings, thinking that it may not be possible until the tail end of our trip if at all. (I know, we should've gone later, but this is the time period that both overlapped with his work schedule and mileage ticket options.) Bearing that in mind, couple questions to help us make the most of our trip:
  1. For anyone that's been in the area recently, do you have a hypothesis on if the roads will open at all during our stay?
  2. Is it worth hiking those areas so early in the season even if the roads do open?
  3. What are your favorite other spots for longer day hikes? We're already looking at Þakgil and Stórurð but I'm sure there's other awesome spots out there! Maybe on the north side too?
We don't have a set day-by-day itinerary yet (our experience doing other road trips abroad leads us to want some goals but allow for flexibility to see where the day (and the wind) takes us. We've marked a map with some points of interest (we are obviously not staying at ALL the campgrounds, just plenty to reference for wherever we might end up based on what we do during a given day.) Please share any 10/10 highlights we're missing, or some things maybe we should skip.
Main goals:
Helpful notes:
PS - I have an iPhone 13 mini and he has as Samsung Pixel 6a. I own a Canon T4i and an older Tamron 18-270mm lens, but I haven't used it regularly in a couple of years so I feel out of practice. Considering not taking the DSLR and sticking to phone pictures so I don't overwhelm myself and spend more time appreciating the experience than fiddling with settings I barely remember trying to get the perfect shot (and to save 4lbs when hiking, ha.) Is this a terrible idea?

2023.05.29 00:12 declanwigand Traveling to Alaska, need some advice.

Hey everyone, I’m a long time DSLR photographer who has recently been exploring the world of film. I have my father’s canon AE-1 to learn on and I’ve shot my first roll of black and white ISO 100 film. (Ilford delta 100). I’ve been experimenting with exposure, taking some shots multiple times to see how the camera reacts to light and undeover exposure.
My dilemma is, I’ve just recently finished this first roll of film, and my plan was to get the film developed in time before my Alaskan cruise to see if the camera was functioning ideally and if it was worth bringing across the country. But I realize now it won’t be developed in time, so what should I do? Should I load up on some film and bring it to shoot with despite not knowing how well the photos from the first test batch turned out?
If it makes a difference, the camera and lens seem to be in perfect condition.

2023.05.28 23:54 RemoteSeal Recommendations for Z lens

Hi Everyone,
I'm currently switching from my old D700 to Z8 and I'm wondering, which lenses to buy in addition to my F mount lenses - 24-72mm f2.8; 72-200mm f2.8;14-30mm f4. Any recommendations/ideas what Z lens would be a good to add?
I usually shoot nature/street and occasionally portraits.
Thanks all for the replies.🙏🏻

2023.05.28 23:51 Gloore Considering upgrade choices from 70D + 55-250mm for wildlife photography

Hey guys!
As I said in the title, I'm considering a few of the upgrade choices for wildlife photography (especially birds). As is the case now, I find my 55-250mm lens pretty bangin' for birds in parks, but I could use some more zoom to not stress the animals by being too close to them. Right now I'm thinking of:
So, that's the research I did for now. I considered changing brands, but I don't know much about those. I'd be grateful for any help and additional ideas, though I might not reply in a timely manner (being midnight in EU)!

2023.05.28 23:22 Adventurous_Ebb_2288 Will a Sigma 18-50mm with a Canon EF Mount be compatible with the Canon EOS 5D Classic?

Title above. I’m looking at a Sigma lens that has a standard Canon EF mount and I am aware the Canon EOS 5D Classic has an EF Mount, however upon contacting the seller says it was attached to a Canon T3i camera prior, which I believe is a crop sensor camera, which I also believe has a Canon EF mount as well if I’m not mistaken… not EF-S or anything else unless I’m wrong, so would this lens work/be compatible for my full frame camera? Pretty sure I need an adapter if it will work? Thanks

2023.05.28 23:01 The_Jack_Burton Lens adapter question

I'm quite new to all of this, and I've just learned there are lens adapters for different cameras. I've also learned that the tech for lenses grows much slower than camera bodies, so they'll stay comparatively "good" for a while. I've inherited my dad's cameras, the newest being an Olympus E-M5ii, for which I have 3 lenses. He also had an Olympus E-620 and 520, which have 4 lenses. Is there an adapter to use the E-620 lenses with the E-M5ii? All I can seem to find is adapters for brands, like Olympus to Canon and the like, but not between versions of the same camera.

2023.05.28 22:01 KoryMajorTuba Projector Distance

When using the projector throw calculator on projector central, is it in your best interest to mount the projector at the minimum distance it gives you for any given screen size?
For example, a 126 inch screen size gives a range of mounting distance of 12'5 ft - 26'2 ft.
If you mount it at the minimum distance, the image will be brighter, even though your lens is maxed out its zoom?

2023.05.28 21:10 noribruno Outlast/Whistleblower timeline

I know with all the hype around Trials this post will probably be ignored, and I know it's a bit silly, but I need you to help satisfy my curiosity. I would like your opinion on the total duration of Miles and Waylon's misadventure in terms of hours, taking into account what we know from the canon: 2 hours before the main events Waylon sends the email to Miles, to then be locked up > Miles in those 2 hours arrives at Mount Massive and enters it around 9:45 (this can be understood from some clocks) > when Father Martin cuts off the power Waylon is released and their stories coincidence > Miles is sedated by Father Martin for no one knows how long > Waylon is sedated by Eddie for 12 hours.
Mining Waylon's experience with those 12 hours of vacuum, I'd at least like to know how many hours hypothetically passed between when Miles entered and when he was shot.

2023.05.28 21:00 Comfortable-Radish94 Osprey Photography Question

Hi all,
On Tuesday I'm going to an early morning guiding session to do Osprey photography for the first time.
I'm wondering the following though.
I'll be at water level for head on diving shots where the Ospreys will be around 10 metres away.
Am I better prioritising resolution with my Sony A7RIII or Shooting speed with my A9.
Conditions are looking bright and very favourable so which lens would you use with the aforementioned body out of this selection:
Sony 100-400mm Gm Sony 135mm Gm Canon 400mm 5.6 Canon 70-200mm 2.8
Canons adapted with MC-11
Thanks VERY much for any advice offered.

2023.05.28 20:52 Icy-West7588 5 inch 650mm newtonian on az-gti in eq-mode?

So I currently have a 130slt that I bought for visual but ended up getting into astrophotography with the alt-az mount but I was looking to get an eq mount and since I'm on a budget, I decided on the az-gti and getting a lens or small refractor. I was thinking of buying the mount first and trying to use it with my current telescope and buying the other optics later, but I was wondering if it'd be too much for the mount?
I'm looking at 1.6 arcsecs/pixel with my dslr (t6i) and the ota weighs something like 4kg.

2023.05.28 20:13 SamsungKnight59 Difference between Canon Mark 1 lens vs Mark 2?

So I've been seeing canon lens, both zoom and primes nearly identical in focal length but have huge price differences between them because of the "II" in the name.
What's the major benefit of choosing the II over the other?
How different is the build quality between them?
Since the Mark II's are newer, is it usually better to get that version instead?
