2023.06.10 18:23 iamnotbutiknowIAM Enhancing the speed performance of my 2021 GC

Im pretty happy with speed performance of GC in sport mode, but can’t help but envy the SRT and Trackhawk, so I asked ChatGPT what it suggests to improve speed performance on my V6 3.6L engine. Here’s what it suggested, wondering if any of you have made any of these modifications and how they improved your speed.
  1. Engine Tuning: One of the most common ways to increase performance is by tuning the engine's electronic control unit (ECU). This involves reprogramming the ECU to optimize fuel and ignition timing, which can result in improved power and torque.
  2. Cold Air Intake: Installing a cold air intake system can provide your engine with a denser and cooler air supply, potentially improving horsepower and throttle response. This modification allows for better combustion and can enhance performance.
  3. Exhaust System Upgrade: Replacing the stock exhaust system with a performance-oriented aftermarket exhaust can help increase horsepower and improve exhaust flow. A less restrictive exhaust system can lead to better engine efficiency and a more aggressive sound.
  4. Supercharger or Turbocharger: Adding a supercharger or turbocharger to your engine can significantly boost its power output. These forced induction systems compress the incoming air, resulting in more fuel being burned and increased horsepower. However, installing a supercharger or turbocharger is a complex modification and may require professional assistance.
  5. Performance Chips or Programmers: Performance chips or programmers can modify the ECU to optimize performance. They can adjust various parameters such as fuel mapping, ignition timing, and throttle response to enhance power and torque.
  6. Lightweight Components: Replacing heavy components with lightweight alternatives can improve the vehicle's overall performance. Consider upgrading to lighter wheels, carbon fiber body parts, or lightweight seats to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle and improve acceleration.
  7. Transmission Upgrades: Upgrading the transmission can improve power delivery and acceleration. A performance torque converter, upgraded clutches, or a shift kit can help your Jeep Grand Cherokee shift more quickly and efficiently.
  8. Suspension and Handling Upgrades: Enhancing the suspension system can improve the vehicle's handling and stability, allowing you to maintain higher speeds more confidently. Consider upgrading to high-performance shocks, struts, and sway bars to enhance overall driving dynamics. stability, allowing you to maintain higher speeds more confidently. Consider upgrading to high-performance shocks, struts, and sway bars to enhance overall driving dynamics.
  9. Differential Gear Ratio: Changing the gear ratio in the differential can optimize acceleration or top speed. A lower gear ratio can provide quicker acceleration, while a higher ratio can allow for a higher top speed. However, this modification may affect fuel economy and engine RPM at highway speeds.

2023.06.10 18:08 BudgetWeevil1668 Does anyone sell a decent rotors anymore?

I was a mechanic for 10 years in the early 2000s, and we used to be able to get decent rotors from the aftermarket and would cut rotors until they approached their wear limit
I still maintain all my families vehicles(multiple jeep grand cherokees, 2 Ford fusions, gmc terrain, chevy 1500), but I can't find decent rotors that last. No matter where I buy them- NAPA, carquest, O'Reilly, Powerstop- they all warp in less than 2/3 pad life and it seems shops have all abandoned their brake lathes. I'm certain it's not procedural, and I never used to have this issue. What's going on? Where do yous guys get your brake frisbees?

Red sparkplugs
Hello everyone, I recently experienced multiple misfires in my Jeep grand cherokee laredo 2010 EGR engine. I replaced my ignition coils, cables and sparkplugs, also i changed my catalyzers cuz they were clogged. My sparkplugs looked like this when i replaced them. Now, a week later, my engine is back to misfiring. What does the color on the spark plugs mean? Maybe I have another problem that is causing misfires? My O2 sensors are fine, my camshaft sensors are fine. I cant diagnose the problem! Also no vaccum leaks. I fueled my car and suddenly is started misfiring. I changed my fuel distributor today and the car felt more energetic but still misfiring! Can someone give me an advice ?

2023.06.10 04:17 WolfeTaylorAwaken 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8

I just got this Jeep for pretty cheap, but it’s not running. I’m getting a p1391 code (intermittent loss of ckp or cmp). I’ve done a few things but I’m stumped. Basically the Jeep is have a tough time cranking over, when it eventually does it’s got this rattle to it, then it quickly dies.
So far what I have done is:
I’m thinking maybe it’s something to do with the flex plate, because of it’s close relationship with the crank sensor. I’ve tried “flashing” the pcm but have no clue if that’s even doing anything. Any ideas or suggestions?

2023.06.10 01:54 Yohelppppp 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee for Uber / Uber Eats?

Is it worth driving for Uber or Uber Eats with a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Looking to make some more money to pay off student loans and don’t know if I’m going to lose more money than I earn. For reference I get about 18 MPG and gas prices near me are currently $3.69.

2023.06.09 22:25 Charliec3ntral What to replace my Jeep with?

I currently drive a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ 205k miles. I was quoted about $2500 to fix my failing steering gear box and power steering pump. The transmission is also showing signs that it is on its way out. In addition, the fuel economy is getting a little ridiculous (13-15 mpg at best). It doesn't seem wise to fix it, so I am beginning to look for something else. I am looking for something smaller, more reliable, and better on fuel.
Restrictions: - $15k price - 2014 or newer - less than 100k miles
I dont have a preference for manual or automatic, or whether it's a sedan, coupe, or wagon. I'm in New England, and while having better capabilities for winter would be ideal, it's not a deal breaker.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.

2023.06.09 21:13 HonHonHonCroissants 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Quoted for Over $2k+ of Repairs - Are they Necessary?

My check engine light started flashing today, so I immediately took it to a local shop for a diagnostic. It's got about 110k miles on it if that matters.
They say I need new spark plugs, a new oil filter housing unit and oil change, replaced thermostat, coolant flush, and complete fuel port fuel service.
I said yes to the spark plugs immediately but thought I would do my research on the rest or at least shop around - is that okay? Will any of these other issues cause my car to explode before I can get it to another place (probably a week or two from now)?
I'm really struggling with money right now so I don't want to take on any repairs that don't need immediate attention. TIA!

2023.06.09 19:55 skiitifyoucan Grand Cherokee L vs Subaru Ascent?

Curious if anyone has any experience of this comparison?
Have owned multiple Mopar vehicles (98 XJ modded , 01,03 and 04 Cummins 2500s ) and multiple Subaru.Currently driving an Ascent and it meets all of our needs but very boring to drive. I really don't love the CVT and I don't love the direct injection motor due to fouling of intake valves. I know the base model Grand Cherokee L is not super interesting to drive but I think it will be more enjoyable than the Ascent.
We also drive on the beach and I'm sure the Jeep will do just as well as the Ascent, which does just fine with low pressure and good tires . We'd be looking at the base model with the 18" wheels, with the basic add-ons of tow prep and the technology package with the heated seats and mud flaps.
tldr nothing we really NEED from the Grand Cherokee L that the Ascent doesn't have or do, just looking for something more enjoyable to car guy.

2023.06.09 18:08 Visible_Act_186 $1,500 reward for a set of golf clubs that were in my car when it was stolen on the night of 6/6-6/7.

It was a white Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited parked on Brush St outside of Bodega/City Modern. I know the car is long gone but I assume the clubs will be sold somewhere and i'd like to get them back if possible.
If anyone sees them or knows of places to check I'd be super grateful.

Stability & weight distribution hitches
Hi guys, not sure if this is totally the right sub but it’s my best guess based on typing “towing” “hauling” “trailering” into Reddit until I found something useful. I have a Grand Cherokee that I plan to use for infrequent hauling of decent-ish weight trailers. I’m pretty committed to needing a weight distribution hitch with sway control. Issue is, I’m not planning on hauling the same trailer each time. I’ve seen a few hitches that have clamp on, but the problem is they clamp on and over the bars that form the tongue of the trailer - the trailer I’m specifically going to be hauling soonest does not have an opening there for the clamp. The tongue is a solid piece of steel. See photos for reference. Any thoughts/recommendations?

2023.06.09 04:31 heymanwhatever I have a 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee that turns off over bumps

Sometimes it will let me start it back up and it drives fine until I go over a bump. I’ve changed the battery the alternator and put a new ground wire to the engine block and frame. Someone is telling me it’s the ecu others are telling me it’s a grounding issue. I can’t find anything online that shows all the ground locations. Any help would greatly be appreciated
