So our first session (new GM, new Players, 5e refugees), HighnDry went reasonably well. Squeezed the whole thing into 3 hours, could easily see it having taken 4-6 hours, but such is life with jobs and children. They took to task chains well, and it was clear they enjoyed having their own useful specialty skills. They marched into the 567-908 outback intent on fighting something, which I took as an opportunity to introduce (and learn) the combat system. I wasn’t at all prepared for them to go looking for danger, so I slapped together a “thing with teeth and claws” and gave it high athletics(dexterity) so it could dodge everything, while illustrating that taking a reaction to avoid damage reduced its chance to hit. Some characters took damage, seeing that simply getting hit once can easily inflict lethal damage, but it gave our medic a chance to try out his skills.
Good stuff, but left me wondering - how do others here run combat to be interesting without just being a likely TPK? Do you plan for combat encounters to be likely in each game session, and do you try to “balance” them? How often does spacecraft combat lead to a boarding action and close quarters combat? Dice Modifiers have a tendency to stack up, how do you keep track on the fly? What tips would you give a new GM with new players who really like being dominant combatants?

My friends and I are getting into Necromunda for the first time. I’ve read some articles and watched some videos (there is so much to know!) My buddy that got Goliath and I have played 4 learning games and now we are about to start a big Dominion campaign with 10 people.

I just played a Blight game (p40) on Sanctum of Wrath. Played with lethal, bbq, deadlock, shadowborn, crow and c21. First chase started near the shack side with Meg, she ran to a straight tile, and just prethrew the pallet as I was rushing over, forcing the break. Then she used my fatigue duration to run to the next pallet, camped it, and as I rushed over prethrew again. Rinse and repeat across the map from shack corner, to the other corner on shack side, to the steps of the temple on the side across from shack. I eventually caught her with C21 and hug techs, but her prethrowing every pallet bought the team enough time to do 2.5 gens (3rd popped a few seconds after I hooked her.) I must have broken at least 10 pallets in the first 3 minutes of the game, which you would think creates a massive dead zone, but with 2 gens left and 1 hook stage I was essentially lost. So my question is, why is it possible for survivors camp/drop every pallet on the map the second you see it, and still win, especially against a killer with so much gap closing?

I have an ASUS Vivobook 15 8th Gen Intel for the past 4 years. Upgraded to SSD and 8GB RAM 2 years ago but I’ve been having issues since last year because of the Windows 11 updates even if they’re supposed to be compatible. Brought it to a repair shop and they want to replace the GPU for $327. Am debating now if I should bother spending for the replacement or just save up for a new unit. I don’t use it for gaming. I mainly used it for making presentations and digital content. Any advice would be much appreciated

Me and my girlfriend purchased a blue heeler from a backyard breeder in May of last year. I worked at a dog daycare and loved the blue heeler’s that came in and they quickly became my favorite dog, so when i saw the opportunity to purchase one i quickly jumped the gun on it. She was a very energetic puppy when we got her she loved all our friends and was the sweetest little thing (8weeks). I did some basic research about this breed before buying her and saw a couple articles about their herding history and their energy level and loyalty, i also saw a couple articles about protectiveness and how they are prone to biting ALOT. So i made it a point to get her outside and socializing to the best of my ability, we took her out for walk around people, we had people over, we took her to places where kids and adults and everyone would pet her and say hi and she LOVED it i mean it was her favorite thing to do, she used to excited pee when people greeted her she was the sweetest, all the way up until about 6 months.
6 months was her age when she got spayed, after this she started exhibiting weird behaviors once in a while, for example she snapped at my girlfriends dad. And started becoming territorial of me and my girlfriend, she started growling at strangers and not wanting to be around anyone that wasn’t us, we did obedience training and it helped for a little bit, we still take her out on walks and practice socializing and she’s does OK at best, nobody can pet her but she doesn’t get excited like she used to.
It isn’t until people start coming into our home that she turns into a different kind of dog. She is purely aggressive towards anyone that comes into her space and doesn’t like strangers. She will bite, show her teeth, lunge, and stalk whoever comes into our home until they leave. This is TOO much for us and are thinking about rejoining her, we want to work with her but training an aggressive dog is a whole other ball game. professional trainer that are willing to risk getting bit are crazy expensive, and doing it on our own also is a struggle because we aren’t sure what to do, i have one friend who is willing to act as a decoy but who wants to help us with our dog and risk getting bit? we are in such a difficult situation and are coming to the end. We love her so much, she is the perfect dog, obedient, doesn’t growl at us, never bit us once, listens to us, loves going outside, she is great. Her only flaw is her protectiveness, and it’s a bad one. We don’t want to risk her biting someone and want to fix it but have no idea what to do. someone please help.

Today really made me feel like a piece of shit. Recently I’ve been behind on a few bills because of an injury at work causing me to be on light duty and making my paychecks go from 100+ hours/ 2 weeks to 60-70 hours. I’ve been struggling to eat and keep my car fueled and haven’t been sleeping due to the stress.
Today was one of my best friends and his daughters birthday and they invited me to go bowling with them. I scrounged all week to pick up an extra twenty dollars so that I could play at least one game of bowling and have a beer. First I showed up at his house and they were doing presents, and I felt like such a shithole for not being able to afford anything for a guy who has helped me out so much and his daughter who is basically my niece. After that, and a few laughs that set me back on an okay mood, we went to the bowling alley.
As soon as we pull in, I get a notification from credit karma saying that my score took a 60 point hit because of my delinquent bills and the stress began. My brain began to go into overdrive and soon all my fears were closing in on me. All my brain could do was scream. I bowled one game that I could afford and got a glass of water, and soon two of our other friends showed up with their kids and such. So here I am being upset and trying not to breakdown while my friends and their families have a good time, so I return my shoes and slip my friend the money for the game I bowled plus a beer he bought me that I refused because I didn’t like taking handouts.
Unfortunately they were my ride, so in my condition or beginning meltdown, I walked out the door and kept walking. “It is my problem and I’ll deal with it, no need to bring everyone else down” was the one thought on my head. It wasn’t until I had walked 5 miles that I realized how foolish I was. I could have been having beers with my friends and bowling! But I kept walking. 8 hours and 16 miles later I finally made it to my apartment. My roommate (who is my birthday friends sister) told me that I had effectively brought the mood down for the whole thing, when all I wanted to do was just the opposite.

Hi. I'm putting together a computer system that allows you to do basic stuff but without requiring to connect to the internet. The reason I'm doing this is because I've noticed that the internet tends to stress me out with pointless things, and devices are getting to the point where internet is required to even turn on or do anything useful.
What I've done so far is taken a debian install and added the whole repository (or app store if you'd like) as well as a copy of Wikipedia with the kiwix software. Both those only total about ~175Gb, well below the size of modern hard drives. I've added a number of other repositories like video game roms, wikiHow, book repositories and such, but those two things are the main thing and it's free of legal problems.
I've used it and tinkered with it for a few weeks now. I can write up documents, can install software that I need, don't really worry about drivers (at least ones in the repo), play a few games, look up stuff on Wikipedia, watch movies or music that's available offline, etc. All of this without having to ever touch the internet.
It's actually been pretty easy to do. I think I can make a USB installer so that it's as easy to install and use as debian normally is. My question is that is there any desire apart from me for something like this? Is there any projects that are doing this but are further along? Thanks.

So I have been playing on xbox for years and I'm heavy into the game lately due to duviri, but my xbox series x hdmi port just broke. I'm getting it repaired but I want to play my xbox account on pc, I am aware they don't have cross save yet, and I know they are working on it. In the meantime I can't play and I'm losing my mind, is there any safe emulators I can use just to play the game, my pc can handle it and I'm not starting over on pc, I have an alt pc account already but it's so under equip, and the quests haven't been finished so I cant go back. I also don't wanna break any game rules, I don't want to risk my main account. I'm not trying to bypass trading or anything I don't need the Plat right now I need to grind the game.

2: Be literate. No one liners. I like to write..it's annoying when I send a 2-3 paragraph response and I get 3 lines...just...no. I am not accepting people who are just starting out! If you aren't experienced in writing or roleplaying, kindly stay out of my inbox.
3: Be okay with playing canon characters. I'm mainly doing fandom roleplays right now and it's going to be Canon x my oc. No, I'm not doing double ups. Do not even ask, because the answer will be no every time. I do not give a shit if you think that makes me 'lazy' or 'selfish', if you've got a problem, you can simply ignore or block me. Commenting on my post to bitch and whine about me not doubling up will only result in me blocking you. The ONLY time I'll double up, and if I'm confident enough, I'll only do female characters. I suck at males. Got a problem? Not my issue. Block and move on.
4: Roleplay in third person. I can't and won't adapt to first. Don't even bring up the idea of you playing first person and me playing third. Believe it or not, I've been asked this twice and that is just a hell no for me. The only time I do first, is when I'm writing into my book.
5: if you don't know how to share ideas, then don't bother messaging me. I'm tired of carrying the story when the other person doesn't help. If you've got ideas, then PLEASE speak up! Your opinion on the roleplay matters too! I'm an easy going person, and easy to get along with (dispite my rules).
6: DO NOT control my character. I control what she says, does, hears, sees, ect. I don't control yours, so don't control mine. HOWEVER, if it's highly necessary and needed, then run it by me first and ask me. Just leave me some wiggle room so I can make a decent response. Failure to comply by this rule, results in immediate drop of the rp.
