I have a 40v string trimmer that’s about 3.5 years old and recently stopped running for more than 5 seconds. I can’t get anyone to tell me where to take it other than a place over an hour outside of Atlanta, GA. Has anyone had success with the warranty process?

Want to know what powered yard tools I need to clear up the yard. I have and avocado tree, bush, and lemon tree that needs trimming. The avacado tree might need trimming higher up later on. I have a Milwaukee string trimmer were u can swap the attachments out. I have M18, Makita 18v, Makita 40v, Ryobi 18v, and worx 20v batteries. I prefer cordless as having to deal with an extension cord makes me not want to use corded tools and gas tools are not permitted in my area anymore.

I have a Ryobi 4 Cycle String Trimmer and the tool vibrates like crazy. For reference I'm 5'11 and 200 pounds, I wear a wrist strap AND anti-vibration gloves. Could I be wearing the wrong type of gloves? Does anyone else have issues with these kind of trimmers?

2023.05.29 20:23 Dbernard1111 Ego mower Advice needed

Looking to buy my first battery mower. Any advice on the Ego 2142sp (2x5ah 56v) vs the 2156sp (10ah 56v)? I have a bunch of Ryobi 40v tools but after doing some research it seems that most agree that Ego is the way to go. Bought my first home 8 years ago and had to buy what I could afford at the time... An underpowered toro recycler has mower. I literally have regretted it since day one but have been too stubborn to upgrade. It often bogs down and stalls on longer or even slightly damp grass. That being said, I'm willing to spend more now to have too much mower for my needs and not immediately regret it. I only have about 1/3 of an acre in my flat, but bumpy suburban yard. I prefer to mulch when I mow.
The 2156 seems to be the latest and greatest which I like so I'm not starting a few years back in terms of tech. The price reflects that at $849. The 10ah battery seems to be more than enough for my needs.
The 2142 seems to be an older model but has similar specs and is only $699 right now. I kind of like that it has 2 batteries so if one does it would cost less to replace. I see that you can upgrade the blades to get the same setup as the 2156 for around $45.
Any thoughts on which way I should go? Any significant reason not to get the cheaper 2142? Am I missing anything is one better than the other?

Hi, I have a 40v HP ryobi weed eater. When I put the battery in, it works perfectly fine. Then I put it down and let it stop spinning and when I pick it up again it will not start when I pull the trigger and I have to take the battery out to get it work again. And suggestions?

4ah vs. 6ah battery on Expand-It Weed Wacker
Long story short, I’m stuck maintaining the City’s portion of grass on canal bank behind my house. The battery 4ah comes with weed wacker, but my mower comes with 6ah (both 40V). Will I damage the electric motor in weed wacker if I use 6ah batteries?

I already have the Quik-lok system.
I can get the stand-alone for $12 more than the Quik-lok. Any advice on which I should get?
I’m thinking the Quik-lok will be nice if I ever have something tall, but is it frustrating to use on loweshorter bushes?

2023.05.29 05:24 yuniorsoprano Can someone please help me choose a Ryobi bundle?

Hi all,
As the title says, I'm trying to choose a Ryobi bundle. My wife and I are closing on our first home in a little less than a month, and I'm pretty much starting from scratch in terms of tools.
Some other relevant background: I'm in the NYC area, so my property is pretty small (4000 sq ft), but I am on a corner and there are lots of trees on or near our lot, so I think it'll be important to have a high quality leaf blower.
Also probably relevant: I'm ignorant about all things tools and DIY, so please bear with me.
Ok, so I'm looking to buy a lawn mower, an edger, and a leaf blower, and I'm trying to choose between these three options.
OPTION 1: https://tinyurl.com/ucnrttm5
OPTION 2: https://tinyurl.com/yvs9vvfw
OPTION 3: https://tinyurl.com/28yab96u (lawn mower only) + https://tinyurl.com/5yw945a4 (edger and leaf blower)
The benefit of option 3 is that it seems to be a much less expensive way to go, but I don't know enough to know what the trade-offs are for that cheaper price.
I would appreciate any feedback at all.
Also, can someone explain to me the benefits of buying everything or most things within the same ecosystem when it comes to battery operated tools? The main benefit is that all 40V Ryobi products can use the same battery and charger, is that right?
Thank you in advance for helping a newbie get acquainted with this stuff!

2023.05.28 18:23 standardissuegreen Did Kobalt redesign their 40v batteries? A new battery won't work in my old mower.

Searched all over and can't find any other post (or any other website) concerning this issue. That can't be the case, as I'm sure others have run across it.
I have an older Kobalt KM-1940 40v mower. My lawn is small, it works great, and I can normally mow it all with just a single charge on a 2.5 ah battery. The 2.5 ah battery I have been using for the last few years is a replacement one I bought at Lowe's.
Wanted a new 4.0 ah battery. Instead of buying just the battery, I bought a weed trimmer that includes the 4.0 ah battery for not much more money.
Tried to put the new 4.0 ah battery in my older lawnmower and it will not run. After looking at it more, the new battery clicks when I push it in, but the springs inside the mower then push it back out just enough so that the battery does not make sufficient contact with the mower's battery connections.
Pulled the battery out and looked at the newer and older side-by-side. Here is a photo:
https://i.imgur.com/MNfn3kK.jpg
New battery is on top, older on bottom. The vertical ridge about 1/3 from the right of the batteries is the catch that the bracket will grab onto to hold the battery in the mower.
You can see on the older battery where that catch is closer to the right than on the newer battery. Thus, on the older battery, the catch/bracket combination hold it further into the mower, allowing the battery to make a connection.
Anyway, it's pretty clear the batteries were redesigned. I guess I may just return the new weed trimmer and buy a Milwaukee, as I've got a ton of Milwaukee batteries. The last thing I want is to have multiple similar versions of a Kobalt battery.
Anyone else have this problem? My guess is it may have been a "big deal" a few years ago, but my lawn is so small my lawn tools last a lot longer and I'm slow to the issue.

2023.05.28 17:34 HobbitQueen8 Not every thornbush has roses

TL;DR: Metaphor for narcissism
Husband and I were doing some yard cleanup last week, and hidden under some basic brush was a plant with thick, red thorns. Husband, who does fancy himself an amateur gardener, told me that this was a rosebush, and it was being choked out by all the wild brush (we had really let it go). I told him, ok, that’s fine, but right now it’s real jungle-y back here, and everything is getting cut back, and if they are roses (he again assured me they were), they they’re just not gonna be growing back.
Husband and I both grew up with narc parents. Mine played psychological warfare, his either ignored him or treated him like a house servant.
As Husband goes inside to look after the baby, and I continue attacking the wilderness that has become my suburban backyard, I think about this “rosebush,” with its thickened branches and too-big thorns. “This isn’t a rose bush,” I thought, annoyed, catching my arms and jeans on it all. “Not everything with red thorns has roses!”
And it made me think of how Husband views/deals with his parents. They don’t give a shit about him, and yet he’s still in contact with him. We had to basically insult them to get them to visit and meet their (second) grandson. (The “second” is very important - when I was still pregnant, MIL told us, disappointedly, “You can try for a girl next time!”) I think the only reason Husband still entertains their messages is because MIL keeps telling him she’s going to send him money - and it’s a lot.
All this to say (and thanks if you’ve read all this!), not every thornbush has roses. It’s a bush, and it’s tangled, and complicated, and what family isn’t, right? But yours has got these thorns, and they prick at you, and nag at you, and generally make life unpleasant. But there’s pretty flowers under here, isn’t there? Something sweet-smelling that can grow, that can make you happy? You just have to look past all these big, red thorns, and … aren’t these flowers supposed to be in here somewhere?
No.
Because not every thornbush has roses.
So you take that hedge trimmer to that bitch.

2023.05.28 07:47 Scoreycorey515 Section full of sticker bushes, help.

My neighbor behind me has like a strip of sticker bushes and trees that grow through the fence that is up. The tree limbs puce the cattle fencing and the sticker bushes are taking over. I went through it once a few years ago with some rental equipment, but it came back with a vengeance. I went through with a hedge trimmer and chain saw and cut a lot of it down, my plan is to get some commercial grade barrier and lay it down, but I want to make sure the roots are dead, what's the best way to make sure nothing is going to grow on the area, it's about 100ftx 15 ft strip.

2023.05.28 00:13 muscledaddyrwc Do kids sleep 24/7?

When we moved into our house we had child free neighbors. Our block is not conducive to kids, small lots and sloped so no yards to play in.
Since then, both neighboring houses have sold and now have babies in them. For the last 3 years I've been trying to find a time to do yard work which, unfortunately for some, involve hedge trimmers and such. No matter the time of day, I'm told "stop, the baby is asleep". Yet they can't tell me a preferred time of day that I can work!

2023.05.27 22:15 Jordaneer What is my best deal for getting a weed eater?

I got an ego mower (not positive on the model but it's the dual blade 21 inch mower with 7.5 ah battery) back at the end of April and then quickly discovered I needed a second battery so I could charge one while using the other one and so I bought the 615 cfm leaf blower combo kit because it was about the same price as a 4ah battery but it included the battery charger and the blower for effectively free and since I didn't have an ego blower, I figured this would be a good one to get.
I do lawn care for a few people and as I was doing one of the lawns yesterday that is pretty big (over 2/3 acre) and it's grown significantly in the past week and so that used up my batteries faster than they could recharge so it seems like it makes sense to get an ego weed eater that comes with a battery, especially because I kind of hate the Ryobi 18v brushless one I use now, it has really bad trigger lag and vibrates a lot.
I'm looking at this one as what seems like the best current deal? Are there any better ones I should look at?

Rewiring hedge trimmer, where does the earth go (UK)?
My mum accidentally cut through the the power cord on her hedge trimmer (Soverign HTEG34C-450). She opened it up to rewire it and doesn't know where the earth should go. The cable has an earth, but doesn't seem to be connected to anything inside the trimmer, she doesn't know if it was never connected or came lose when she opened it perhaps.
Any suggestions of whether it needs to be connected or if it's fine to leave it disconnected?

2023.05.27 19:30 deloresbeaven Battery’s dying quickly

I have a dewalt tree trimmer, hedge trimmer, and power washer. I use the 20v/5ah battery in them. Yesterday the tree trimmer worked great on the first cut. Then it stop working on other branches. I’d bring it down and put it on the ground, worked fine. But as soon as it hit another branch, it died again. The same with the power washer. It would decrease the water flow suddenly. Then after a few minutes work properly again. Is this user error? And if so, what am I doing wrong?
