The Secrets of Interstellar and Interplanetary Travel
2023.06.10 19:09 asd8dhd The Secrets of Interstellar and Interplanetary Travel
DISCLAIMER I almost didn’t post this. Not because I think it’s too wild or doesn’t make any sense. In fact, quite the opposite. The information I present here, which is the result of countless hours spent re-watching videos, listening to audio, and cross-referencing official information, is something that now seems to me to be far too viable not to be correct. I have actually tried to prove this theory wrong and… well basically I can’t. So, please bear this in mind as you read. This could end up being one of those rare occasions when we’re actually onto something. Either way, I hope you enjoy the post. First point; this is going to be a
long post. Given the subject matter, it needs to be. Second point; I have not added any images or videos directly
into the post but have instead included a great many links embedded within the text itself. This should ensure that the post is no longer than it needs to be but should still allow you sufficient opportunity to fully scrutinize every part of my theory, so that you can determine for
yourself whether or not you think it holds weight.
I have organised all of the information under specific headings designed to make everything more accessible. Each section focuses on a particular aspect of the main theory. Even if you think that some of what you are reading may not be relevant, I can assure you that everything written here has been included as an important part of a much larger puzzle, and so I would advise that you patiently make your way through the entirety of the post. In an effort to ensure that your time invested here is appropriately rewarded, and in the spirit of preserving the scientific method, I have tried to keep flavor text and blind speculation down to an absolute minimum.
Note that I will be listing various aspects of this post as being confirmed correct or incorrect as and when we have official information to verify such facts. So here we are, after five long years of waiting, the inevitable release of
Starfield, like the event horizon of some nearby black hole, is almost upon us. With the Showcase now a mere 24 hours away, it is time for us to take a look at what makes this particular game so special, as well as discovering just how we will be given the means to fly among the stars.
And so, without further ado, let us begin.
Hitchhiker's Guide From watching gameplay footage, and also listening to various devs talk about Starfield, we know that at some along the early part of the story, we will find ourselves on board a
Constellation Starship, which is appropriately named
Frontier. With us on the ship is
VASCO, an adorable robot assistant who will eventually become one of our possible companions. But how did we even end up on this ship? Well firstly, I do not believe that Frontier is
our ship, or at least not at first. And so, we’re probably here in the capacity of a ‘guest’ of some kind, or more likely, a hitchhiker.
If we take a look at
this scene, we first hear a male shouting
“that’s the Crimson Fleet!” and then a female saying
“Everybody get ready!” After this, we can see that the group we are with is attacked. We already know that we uncover some kind of
unknown artifact whilst
mining for ore near the beginning of the Main Quest, and that the aforementioned Crimson Fleet is essentially an organised collective of space pirates. But what we don’t know is
why they attacked us. This is not something I will be diving into in this particular post, although I do have some theories about this. But the relevance of the series of events here described cannot be understated, as they seem to be the launching point for our entry into Constellation and the adventures that follow.
Next, if we look a little further, we can see that
this seemingly-important member of Constellation is not with us when we arrive at their
Headquarters on
Jemison, which suggests that he may have been killed during the above mentioned attack. Also note that, in-spite of not having a voiced protagonist this time round, we can clearly hear
somebody talking over Frontier’s comms system, which means that there must be a designated pilot. Given the fact that we don’t see anyone who is
confirmed as being the pilot (although it may actually be
this person), it is safe to assume that this designated individual was with us during the flight but was first injured in the attack on the planet’s surface and was then taken to Medical Bay after we successfully land on Jemison.
It is my belief that, after perhaps being exposed to some kind of energy pulse from a grenade or something similar, the first member of Constellation we see was outright killed (hence why we are then asked to join up ourselves, perhaps to take over his role). The pilot, however, clearly survived as we can hear him talking to Control over the comms system during what is actually an extended two-way conversation, but I think that his
vision was somehow compromised so that, even though he is able to speak, he is temporarily unable to see. The good news about this most unfortunate situation is that it opens the door for us to quickly step into the hot seat and, with the pilot acting as our guide, we will experience our very first
Starfield flight tutorial.
Radio Chatter If you listen to the beginning of both the
Official Teaser Trailer and
Official Gameplay Reveal for Starfield, you will hear both halves of the radio conversation I have referenced above, or at least the parts of it that Bethesda have given us so far. The first of these is spoken by somebody being referred to as
Control, and the second by Frontier’s pilot. I previously
posted a link to an audio I made and put up on
Soundcloud, which gives us all of the confirmed parts of this conversation carefully spliced together and enhanced for clarity. Note that some of the audio, despite these enhancements, is a little hard to make out.
The final, in-game conversation is going to be a fair bit longer than what we have here and will be based on the specific processes that are required before attempting a
Grav Jump. I don’t think we will hear this conversation every time we perform a Jump (especially given that our protagonist does not speak), but the first time we experience this early step-out moment, a detailed and appropriate pre-launch conversation will only serve to enhance what I’m sure will be an awe-inspiring experience.
Note that, at the end of this post, I have provided a link to a written transcript detailing what I think is being said in the full version of the above conversation. In the meantime, here is a breakdown of the confirmed parts of this audio. This is slightly different from the version I previously posted, due to new evidence clarifying exactly what is being said here. I have left line-spaces to help show where the missing parts of the audio will eventually go:
PILOT: "Control this is Constellation Starship Frontier." CONTROL: "Constellation Starship Frontier, we have you on scanners." PILOT: "We're ready to start on your signal." CONTROL: "Performing Road Systems check. Helium-3 tanks, check. Seals are intact." PILOT: "Maintaining Exit Vector course, Steady 'till Ready." CONTROL: "We are still go." PILOT: "Coordinates input, plotting Jump course." CONTROL: "We read you Constellation." PILOT: "Sky-Bus is converged, we're looking good." CONTROL: "Jemison route looks good." PILOT: "Allocating Auxiliary Reactor Power." CONTROL: "Prepare for departure. Graviton Loop Array Spool, check." PILOT: "System checks are green across the board." CONTROL: "Your space Lane is clear." PILOT: "Grav Jump commencing in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1." Road-Trip At first, this seems like a typical, albeit futuristic version of an Air Traffic Control conversation. After all, much of what is being said does sound very familiar, and the rest seems appropriate to Starfield’s apparent Hard Science Fiction theme. But it’s only when you start digging a little deeper that you realize that something else is going on here as well.
Note the following terms taken from the above transcript:
Road,
Exit,
Course,
Coordinates,
Bus,
Route,
Departure and
Lane. All these words share a very noticeable common theme. They are all in some way related to
Road Networks. Note also the phrase “
green across the board," which sounds like it could also be a reference to
Traffic Lights.
Zooming Along Next, let’s look at
this map, which features the home of a certain
Software Development Company you may have heard of. If you zoom out a fair bit, you will see two large Cities, namely
Washington and
Baltimore. Zoom out a little more, and you can now see the cities of
Richmond to the South and
Pittsburgh to the North-West. Zoom back in over any of these four major cities, and you will see that there are many more smaller locations within each of the city limits.
Now scroll the map over to any of the areas outside of these cities, and you will find a multitude of other important locations. These include
residential areas,
airports,
medical facilities,
sports and leisure facilities,
research facilities,
manufacturing facilities, tech companies,
supermarkets),
hotels,
places of worship, and many others. All the above locations are important in one way of another to the continued functioning of our society, and all can be placed within two distinct categories. These are
Population Centers and
Infrastructure.
You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat Now imagine that there has been some kind of
catastrophic flood in this area, and all these locations, although somehow miraculously intact, are now separated from each other as a series of individual islands in the middle of a newly formed ‘ocean’. Suddenly, the existing Road Network, along with any cars, busses, and other road vehicles, would become useless. You would need to use a completely different system, one designed to properly accommodate these changes, which would of course have to incorporate such elements as
harbors,
shipping routes, and
vehicles capable of travelling along a waterway.
Now let’s zoom out again, this time further. Much,
much, further. Each location has now been transformed into either a
planet or a
moon, spread across various star systems covering a vast region of space. Each one of these planets and moons will have its own individual features, resources, possible inhabitants, and infrastructure requirements. With such a quantum leap in terms of scale, if we
now wanted to travel between these locations, which could in many cases end up being several light years apart, we are going to need something far bigger in terms of scale, complexity, and technology.
Shown In 60 Seconds During the
first ever 60 seconds of Starfield footage we all saw, shown in the form of the
Official Announcement Teaser at the end of
BE3 on June 11th 2018 (which redditor
InToddWeTrust2023 has very nicely referenced
here), we were given some surprisingly important clues which now form the cornerstone of this theory. Not only have these clues stacked up with every consecutive trailer released, as well as many of the other official videos and various other snippets of information, but their sheer level of consistency places them well outside the realm of possible coincidence.
Some of these additional clues were given to us in the two videos referenced above which contain the comms audio. The second of these two videos, namely the
Official Gameplay Reveal, dropped, as would be expected, at the end of
last year’s Showcase on June 12th 2022. Some of the most crucial information we have been given to date regarding my theory is actually contained in the 70 seconds shown
before Todd even begins to speak. We will discuss the relevance of all of this a little further on in the post.
Lo-go/no go First, some Space related terminology. In Mission Control speak, a
Launch Status Check, also known as a
go/no go poll, is part of a very carefully designed system implemented by US Space Agencies to ensure maximum safety and the best possible survival chance of both the ship and its crew prior to launch. This, or something similar, will undoubtedly form an integral part of the pre-launch, or rather, pre-
Jump procedures incorporated into Starfield, especially given what we know in relation to its specific
influences, attention to detail, and focus on realism.
But let's look for a moment at a different type of launch. Let's look at the process of carefully managing the flow of information when you are launching a long-awaited, multi-million-dollar triple-A video game and you happen to be a major player. With the combined might of
Bethesda,
Zenimax, and now
Microsoft, there is clearly a great deal of scope in terms of how they were able to execute all of the steps involved in this process. One critically important factor, and one that has been masterfully implemented in the promotion of Starfield, is the use of familiar iconography.
If we look at the iconography seen during the promotion of Starfield, we can see that there are two main elements. These are the circular
Starfield logo, first unveiled in 2018, and of course the recently updated
Bethesda Games Studios logo, which has existed in various iterations since around 2006. Both of these share a common, simplistic yet effective design, and the BGS logo in particular is now light years ahead of its
original design as seen on box art and in promotional materials for
The Elder Scrolls VI Oblivion. At the time of Oblivion’s release, the long-term use of this particular logo, which incorporates the now familiar
Fallout Vault Door, was a little uncertain due to restrictions with the associated licence (more on this below). But once this matter had been resolved, it would make a lot of sense that they would then develop this logo into the much sharper, more modern version we see today.
Licenced to Fly Way back in April of 2007, Bethesda realized one of their biggest long-term business goals by finally securing the
full rights to the highly acclaimed Fallout series. Prior to this, in 2004, they had been granted limited rights which would allow them to develop
Fallout 3 and then two additional games, but they clearly wanted
full and unrestricted access to the franchise and all of its assets. Since this time, in addition to Fallout 3, we have seen the release of
Fallout New Vegas,
Fallout 4, and
Fallout 76, as well as a number of smaller projects, including
Fallout Shelter. This is all the proof you need to confirm the fact that, in-spite of some initial setbacks, Bethesda’s insistence on going the extra mile with regards to securing the full franchise, was most definitely worth it, and was seen by many as a landmark achievement.
Looking at the most recent entry to this ever-expanding series, namely Fallout 76, I would like to draw your attention to two of this particular game’s trailers. First, we have the
Fallout 76 Official Trailer from 2018, and then
The Pitt Story Trailer from 2022. In the first of these two trailers, at around the
35 second mark, we see the new BGS logo once again, and then near the end of the video we see a smaller version, neatly tucked away over on the left-hand side of the usual copyright notice. If we then look at the second trailer, at around… Hold on a second, let me rewind that a bit… wait, what?
This is where things start to get really interesting.
One Small Step Okay, going back to the Fallout 76 trailers, although the smaller version of the BGS logo can be seen at or near the end of each of these, only the first incorporates the larger, ‘splash-screen’ version. “
But why is this even important?” you may ask. “
They may have simply forgotten to include this detail in the second trailer.” I can assure you that this is most certainly
not the case. In fact, I am one-hundred-percent confident that this was quite intentional. I would even go as far as saying that this one, seemingly insignificant detail, actually brings us a step closer to unlocking the secrets of Starfield. Essentially, Bethesda have taken full advantage of how we all
think we remember certain details, and as such, this is an example of truly expert-level hidden marketing on their part. I also believe it will form the basis of at least one of the big reveals during the showcase.
One Giant Leap Let’s go back one more time to the
Announcement Teaser and the
Gameplay Reveal for Starfield. Look at how drastically different the BGS logo is in
both of these videos compared to any of those used in promoting Fallout 76. What will really blow your mind here is the fact that all four of the trailers mentioned above were first shown to us during the
same two Showcases we have just been discussing! In other words, the first of these videos for both Fallout 76 and Starfield were both unveiled at the 2018 Showcase, and the second of each at the 2022 Showcase. And yet each respective pair make use of drastically different versions of what we all thought was the exact same logo. This means that Starfield has been designed, from the ground up, to be viewed and experienced in a totally different way than, and completely separate from, any of Bethesda’s previous titles.
To clarify this point, after extensive research, I can confirm that this new, animated BGS logo, with the vault door rolling off to the left and then ‘opening up’ just before the text appears,
has never been featured anywhere in an official capacity that is not directly related to Starfield. It is completely unique to this specific IP. This fact ties together everything we have looked at in the post so far. It also lets us see things from a completely different ‘orbital’ perspective. For example, I believe that this information gives us the
real reason why Bethesda worked so hard to secure the full rights to the Fallout franchise in the way that they did. Not only did they wish to create awesome games set within the Fallout universe, but they also needed total freedom to make use of a specific part of this franchise that so that they could then incorporate it into their next, very
very big, space related IP.
For Mankind Okay. This is the part you’ve all been waiting so patiently for. This is the big reveal. For months now, perhaps even years, we have all been drip-fed the idea that Starfield is essentially “
Skyrim in Space.” The reason I think that we have been told this is to misdirect us away from an intrinsic, interwoven connection between Starfield and Bethesda’s other major franchise, which is of course Fallout. But just to put your mind at rest, I do not for a nanosecond believe that the reveal will be, “
We fooled you all, it’s actually Fallout in space!” no matter how cool that might at first sound.
What I do believe is that Starfield will be
so different and
so unique when viewed alongside anything else that Bethesda have published, that it will quite literally take your breath away.
This game,
the spark of which was first ignited 25 years ago, is Todd Howard’s true passion project. Everything else was simply the path he took to finally get here. This is the story he has always wanted to tell, the story of Mankind’s true legacy. And it all starts, just as it did when Interplay released the original
Fallout) game back in 1997, with a familiar, but staggeringly different Vault Door.
The Vault There is a very special and completely unique
hidden Vault in Starfield. Not only is this particular Vault unlike anything you have previously seen anywhere within the
Fallout universe, but it is also unlike anything you have seen in
any game. Period.
This hidden Vault is actually the key to both interstellar and interplanetary travel. And it also happens to be the
single biggest construction project in human history, extending across a span of almost one-hundred light years. And it is not even close to being completed, even after more than two-hundred years of construction.
This Vault is, by its very nature,
completely invisible and shielded away from view. It is quite literally hidden in plain sight, and it can only be accessed through one of its specially crafted Vault Doors. But what does all of this mean for gameplay, and how does something like this even work? I’m glad you asked! Let’s strap in and prepare for launch, because we’re all in for an incredible ride.
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen... to The Starfield
Entering The Starfield The following is my own interpretation, based on scientific reasoning and a huge amount of detailed analysis, of exactly how I think this system works. It is, as ever, backed up with several links throughout, as well as additional evidence for which I shall provide a separate link at end of the post. I am expecting perhaps some differences in terms of specific details once we get hold of the final release of Starfield, but I am confident that I am at the very least well within the ballpark with all of this. Okay, here goes.
The Science Behind the Magic Starfield is the name given to a vast network of interconnecting tunnels, spanning the entirety of the Settled Systems, providing us with a very fast and highly practical means of travelling between different planets, and even different star systems. These tunnels exist within a localized, folded state, known as
Tunnel-Space. The construction of the Starfield is made possible thanks to a technological breakthrough which allows gravitational waves (or
Gravitons) to be woven together to form something known as a
Gravity-Tunnel, which is then stretched out and connected between any two existing stellar objects, such as two planets in a given system, of even two stars from different systems.
In order to maintain the integrity of each tunnel, it is wrapped in a special type of
Exotic Matter known as
Superfluid Helium. This has a number of highly unusual properties, including
negative energy density and
negative energy pressure. This essentially makes it the physical-space equivalent of time going in reverse, meaning that it is capable of counteracting the effects of any conventional physical force, including
the gravitational pull of a black hole. As such, it will hold the structure of the Gravity-Tunnel together for an indefinite period of time over a potentially infinite distance through space.
Within the Starfield are a large number of
Nodes and Junction Points. Nodes are used to connect together all of the planets in any one Star System, and Junction Points then connect different Star Systems together, making use of much larger Gravity-Tunnels that are the equivalent of
Interstate Highways. Note that all flight between any given planet and any or all of its moons is handled locally, outside of the Starfield.
Because all of the stars, planets, and moons in the Settled Systems are in a constant state of flux, by which I mean their relative
distance and
positions) are constantly changing in respect to each other, the tunnels within the Starfield have been designed to be able to expand and contract almost infinitely so that they can accommodate any changes in these two factors depending on when, where, and how you travel.
Although the main tunnels are designed to transport people, resources, waste, and other items directly relating to either Population Centers or Infrastructure, I believe there is also a
sub-system) that will allow much smaller objects, such as probes, to carry
data-packets that can be upload at one location and then downloaded at another, effectively solving the problem of inoperable delays in communication between remote locations.
Inside of each Gravity-Tunnel is a bi-directional
singularity, which can be switched between two opposite
polarities whenever required with the help of the surrounding Exotic Matter, allowing for two-way traffic inside what is essentially a one-way system. This means that, as long as you are able to ensure the correct polarity of all connecting Nodes and Junction Points along your route (as in “
Sky-Bus is converged” and “
Jemison route looks good”), you will be able to travel, in theory at least, from any point A to any point B, as long as all of the required interconnections exist within the system.
When travelling through the Starfield, you will set a specific route, known as a
Sky-Bus, which is a specified pathway that runs from your staring location to your destination. You will then, with the help of
Starfield Control, access the tunnels using a
Gating System which I will explain below. Incidentally, I believe that the accepted in-universe name for the actual transit network that we are making use of within the Starfield is the
Sky-Bus Tunnel System.
Each tunnel in this system actually has two separate ‘Lanes’, one on the left for outbound traffic, and one on the right for incoming traffic. As I have explained above, each of these tunnels can only accommodate a single direction of traffic flow at any given time. And so, a safety measure had to be incorporated to prevent any accidental attempts to travel the wrong way down a tunnel and destroying yourself and your ship.
At each end of any given Node or Junction Point is a
Gate. These are the ‘Vault Doors’ I have been referring to. The Gate comprises of a gigantic metal outer-ring connecting to an inner Vault Door. This Vault Door will either be at the center (closed position), or the left (open position) of the outer ring. The open/left position will allow outbound traffic to leave the orbit of the current planet they are in proximity to. To allow inbound traffic, the entire outer ring, with the Vault Door locked in place, will rotate clockwise through 180 degrees to the open/right position to allow access to the inbound Lane. When the outbound Lane is then once again required, the structure then continues to rotate in a clockwise motion until it reaches the open/left position once again. When required, the Vault Door will return to the neutral position at the center of the ring, and the tunnel will be locked.
Regarding Grav Jumps: Whenever you wish to perform a Grav-Jump, you must first request permission from Starfield Control, who will guide you through the process. Once the route is set and your Exit Gate is locked in place, by activating your ship’s Grav-Drive, along with it’s incorporated spooling system, you will first lock on to the front of the tunnel entrance.
Next, using a system similar to an
Aircraft Catapult, you will be pulled into the tunnel at great speed, where the Graviton Loop Array will hold your ship in-place inside the tunnel, and will also ensure you don’t accidentally go down the wrong path. At the other end, the spooling system described above then acts as an
Arresting Cable, slowing you down over a very short distance.
If all of the above is actually correct, especially the last part, then I think I will be having
this on repeat in the background before Grav-Jumps!
Finally, here is the
link to my additional supporting evidence and other materials, including some stuff I haven’t had a chance to really go into yet. Feel free to throw any questions at me, and I’ll do my best to answer them. In the meantime, Showcase will commence in 24 Hours…

2023.06.10 19:08 adamwhorelock A MGS Retrospective (from a first timer!)
I had the pleasure of playing MGS1-3 completely blind for the very first time in 2022 (you may have seen some of my art in this sub!) In anticipation of beginning my MGS4 playthrough (and because I’ve had a couple of people ask my thoughts on the series), I thought I’d write up something of a retrospective. (Warning: Contains spoilers for MGS1-3 and MGR:R!)
For some context: I went into this game franchise completely blind. I could count on one hand the things I knew about Metal Gear Solid; I knew there was a boss at some stage who required you to switch controllers; I knew of ‘Snake’ from smash bros; and I’d heard the ‘ashamed of your words and deeds’ discourse regarding Quiet. While I was sick and recovering from a major surgery, I decided to finally jump into a game recommended to me
over and over by a dear friend:
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
MGR:R The first thing I noticed about MGR:R was that its protagonist
Raiden was super cool! He also was very obviously not Snake. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the gameplay and the overarching themes of terrorism, extremism, nationalism and the military industrial complex. The music made its way onto my Spotify; I began to realise several memes with which I was familiar (including several memes
about memes) had originated in this strange game. I could go into more depth about MGR:R, but the most important thing is that it convinced me to give the mainline MGS games a shot. Even though I knew the gameplay of those would differ considerably, the politically charged storyline intrigued me-and I was promised this would remain a theme throughout all Metal Gear entries.
...And I figured since that cool cyborg ninja I just played as for 9 hours must be a side character from one of the MGS games, I’d better learn his backstory.
Highlights:
- The first time Rules of Nature’s lyrics kicked in.
- Senator Armstrong’s monologues (nanomachines, etc!)
- Jetstream Sam.
MGS1 I am terrible at stealth games. When I played through Death Stranding, I did not know you could stealth through the BTs. I simply took a run-and-gun approach to every instance in that game. MGS1’s gameplay would have turned me off, but its constant exposition and evolving narrative compelled me forth despite my hesitance. I found myself quickly endeared to the cast: both good and evil. The mystery of what happened on Shadow Moses and the legacy left by Big Boss intrigued me. There were several instances in the game that caught me completely off guard, and I was thoroughly impressed by the narrative.
Highlights:
- Psycho mantis! The whole fight. What a cool dude. And quite tragic!
- After being captured and tortured by Ocelot, I retrieved my bag and found a strange new bomb inside. Oh well, I thought. I must not have noticed that I picked this up at some point. I wonder how to use it. When Major Campbell alerted me that Ocelot had planted the explosive in my bag to KILL me, I was reminded of a similar experience I had in Death Stranding… in which I similarly noticed the addition of a strange nuclear device in my inventory and promptly thought “oh this is just another normal delivery!”
- At some point during my playthrough I couldn’t help but pause and wonder where I had heard Liquid’s voice before. I did as many have done in my position and googled it, whereupon I found my answer: his voice actor was the male blood elf voice from WOW! It seemed his voice actor also voiced Master Miller in MGS1. “That makes sense,” I remember thinking. “They must have gotten the actor to do multiple voices while he was in the studio”. Pretty standard stuff. Suffice to say, Liquid’s reveal caught me embarrassingly off-guard.
Final thoughts: MGS. What a game!
MGS2 My first thought upon starting MGS2 was “Hey! Quinton Flynn is in the credits! Raiden must be in this one! How exciting.”
I played through the opening, excited by the prospect that Otacon would be functioning as my Save Girl this time. When the game switched characters, I was OVERJOYED to see the return of my favourite cyborg ninja! Although he seemed neither cyborg nor ninja. Oh well! I already know Raiden is cool. I did not realise he was the protagonist of an entire Metal Gear game! I later learned that this game was intentionally marketed to disguise this fact. I also foolishly assumed that everyone else was as overjoyed as me to see Raiden again after playing MGR:R…
Moving on.
This game changed my life. I don’t say that lightly. I’ve spent the past 5 years studying a discipline directly linked to the themes of this game. I have written papers on the relationship between terrorism and the media. For a game like this to have been released in 2001 blew my mind. There is little else I can say. Out of the 3 mainline MGS entries I have played, MGS2 is (just barely) the game I would rank in the number 1 spot.
Highlights:
- All the stealth segments! MGS1 had trained me well to actually play through MGS2 with some degree of care. I took much greater care to avoid killing people in MGS2. I'm not sure why. It just felt like something rookie Raiden would do.
- Vamp. I’m bisexual and playing this game made me realise that this is the first (and possibly only time) I have heard a character in a video game be explicitly described by other characters as Bisexual (and not just hinted to or ‘confirmed’ as such through social media). Also he was very cool and sexy. Go Vamp!
- The scary ai scene. I need scissors 61. Could not have said it better myself!
- Raiden getting a sword. Hooray! That’s the Raiden I know and love.
Final thoughts: After I finished this game I had to sit down for 24 hours and reflect on my life. I was sure this series had peaked for me and that MGS3 could not possibly be able to live up to the standards set.
MGS3 I mentioned before that I am bisexual. After playing MGS3 I believe I am even more bisexual. MGS3’s cast endeared me like no other. It has been 6 months since I have finished this game and my phone wallpaper is still an image of The Boss. Overall, this game by far had the most enjoyable mechanics and boss fights. I mistakenly left my game for about a week to do assessment shortly after beginning to fight The End and returned to find he had DIED in my absence. I was also very confused at first about who I was playing.
“
Wait a minute, this isn’t Solid Snake”. This is the man I now know will come to be known as Big Boss. And of what little I knew of him from MGS1, I believed Big Boss to have been a detestable war criminal.
As such, I decided early on in my playthrough to play him quite violently! I seldom left survivors and did not bother to use non-lethal force. I also announced this loudly and offhandedly to my friend who was very familiar with the games. He would inform me later that he had to mute himself in discord to laugh at me.
Highlights:
- The boss. She’s a real historical figure to me. I will never forget her. It would not be controversial to suggest that video games (especially of this era) seldom provided complex female characters. She is a standout amongst all characters, female or otherwise. Throughout this game, I regularly referred to The Boss as my wife.
- Ocelot! Hey Ocelot is in this and he’s a baby! What a weird guy. I guess this means he is the only character to have appeared in all 3 of the mainline games I have played! Cool! I have come to affectionately refer to Ocelot as my weird gay son.
- More bisexuality! Always a delight! Even when it's coming from a freak.
- The Sorrow. I have mentioned that I decided to play this game violently. I do not know if the Sorrow boss fight has a cap on how many soldiers can spawn, but I am certain I hit it. I do not remember exactly how long that segment took, but it was at least 20 minutes of walking. I have decided that henceforth I will play all future entries as a pacifist. Lesson learned.
- Raikov? That’s not Raiden.
- “The Boss” fight. I had to attempt this fight more than five times, as I could barely see the screen through my tears. When the game held me hostage until I pulled the trigger to kill, I became permanently scarred.
Final Thoughts: After completing MGS3 I cried on and off for about 3 days. I occasionally still think of The Boss and tear up. As I write this, I come unbearably close to doing so again.
In Summary I have not yet played MGS4 but I
have installed the disc into my PS3 and
just barely opened the game. The game’s menu depicts a man standing in a graveyard filled with white flowers; the very same flowers which symbolise The Boss. The menu screen then pans away as the man shoots himself.
That wasn’t even the game! That’s just the menu screen!! I don’t know what MGS4 is about. I don’t know what Peacewalker is about either, nor MGS5. I am looking forward to (and am also terrified of) continuing my journey through these games. I look forward to seeing Raiden’s return (as I’m sure everyone did) and eventually experiencing a MGS game with modern day controls.
Thank you for reading my Metal Gear Solid retrospective.

It’s built not only for best-in-class launch copywriters… But for coaches, consultants, course creators, and ANYONE who stands to benefit from nailing down their launch and funnel copy faster and with more genuine impact. IN THIS TOP-SELLING PROGRAM, YOU’LL GET ACCESS TO: 2 “Core” Modules That will initiate you into the “Coaching The Conversion™ method, and how to leverage a new, more empowering definition of “direct response” that opens up the floodgates to greater intimacy, empathy, and conversions. 5 “Launch” Modules breaking down every single phase of your launch or funnel in full detail (including some you didn’t even know existed). You’ll learn exactly what’s at play during the Segmentation & Confirmation, Pre-Launch, Launch, Sales and Closing phases of your funnel and how to quickly craft the messaging that coaches your prospect into the final conversion in a powerful, non-sleazy way. 25+ Email Templates None of that BS “plug’n’play” or “swipe and deploy” stuff that shoehorns your message into lifeless boxes that robs it of all life and power. It’s where the conversion either happens or it doesn’t. In cold hard numbers that don’t care how many Clif bars you stress-ate in the process. It’s where the most admired online business owners transform interest, desire, and engagement and into what you actually want: Sales. So what is “it”? It’s your long-form sales page. And the truth is… most copywriters and marketers avoid long-form sales pages like the plague… treating it like a close-talking lepper with coffee breath… instead of the 24/7 salesperson your sales page – that final step in your marketing funnel – should be. So why do marketers (and even pro-level copywriters) avoid sales pages? Because writing a long-form sales page is intimidating AF. It’s the Night King of the Whitewalker army. It’s the Beef Wellington on Hell’s Kitchen. It’s the Lord Voldemort of your marketing funnel – aka the funnel asset that shall not be named. A long-form sales page is where you’ll spend dozens of hours writing THOUSANDS of words that will either confirm your claim as a top player in your space… Or will tell you with Gordon-Ramsay-esque candor that your marketing wasn’t as good as your business coach told you it was. There’s real pressure in that. But there’s even real-er payoff in being able to do it faster – and more profitably – than anyone else in your industry. A payoff that even affords you the right to make up words like real-er Confronting, yep? Conquerable. Absolutely. In CTC Sales Pages, you’ll go through the exact process I’ve used to write over twenty 6 and 7-figure sales pages for the likes of Amy Porterfield, Copyhackers, and many more. 2023.06.10 18:45 Which_Ad_6090 My boyfriend of 5 years told me he does not want to have kids. Help.
Hello everybody,
I (female, 27) have been together with my boyfriend (male, 27) for 5 years now. We moved in together quite early in our relationship and everything was great until November of last year, when we decided to get a cat. I had been wanting to have a cat for a long time and in 2021 I asked him if we could get a one. He told me he was not really a cat/pet person in general and he didn’t think it was a good idea, since we both work full time. It made sense at the time so I accepted and never mentioned it again. Until August 2022, when HE suggested we should get one, as he knew it would make me really happy. I was over the moon and we got our kitty in October 2022. In December 2022 we got a 2nd kitty. Cats are very social animals and they are way happier if they are not alone. My boyfriend was not very sure about it, but I convinced him.
I looove them so much. Yes, they are a big responsibility, and yes, the do make a lot of work. But I don’t care, they’re a 100% worth it. I am the one who takes care of them, my boyfriend does not need to do anything. He had to feed them a couple times since I was away for work, but that’s it. A couple of months ago we had a big fight. We have been having some trust issues (I caught him lying a couple times, hence my trust issues) and the situation was really tense between us. During this fight he told me he did not feel comfortable anymore at home, because of the cats. He told me they make him nervous when they run and play (they’re kitties?), it bothers him that we have now a cat tree and that there are cat toys laying around the house,.. you get it. During this fight he also told me he wanted us to give the cats away. I stopped him and told him that I am not the kind of person, who gets pets to give them away later. My family and I have always have pets and our last dog was with us for 17 years, until she passed away. I love pets and I see them as a part of the family. Once they are there, they do not go anywhere. Since the day they I got them, they became my responsibility and I could never do that to them. I would never forgive myself. I told him we would find a solution and make it work.
Again, I am the one who takes care of them. I clean the cat toilet twice a day and always vacuum and dust everything once I get home from work. I keep the house clean. But cats are cats, you cannot control them like a dog. Don’t get me wrong, they are not bad behaved cats, they are really cuddly and they follow me everywhere…. But they are cats.
The situation between us was still tense because of the trust issues, but I thought that we were on good terms regarding the cats. A month ago we had another fight that had nothing to do with them, but he told me he could not live with them anymore and they had to leave. He says he can’t relax when he gets home from work because they are there. I remembered him I would not give the cats away. I also remembered him HE was the one who suggested getting one and I do not think he is being fair, he also knew how it was to live with cats (his parents had 3 when he lived with them). He told me he knew it was his idea and he regretted suggesting it.
I thought it could not get any worse, but then it did: he said “if I am being honest, I do not think I even want to have kids.” I froze and asked if he was being serious. For me, it was clear that we were on the same page about kids (my fault I guess). We had never have a serious conversation about it, but when we spoke about our future, I always mentioned kids and he never said he did not want any.
He said it was not a 100% NO to kids, but he could not imagine his life with kids right now. I told him I could not imagine my life with kids right now either (we are still young and are focussing on our careers), but that I am a 100% sure that I want to have kids in the future. I have always known I wanted to become a mom. I told him I did not want to pressure him but that I would really appreciate if he could be honest with me (and with himself) since this is kind of a deal breaker. I also told him I did not expect an answer vey soon, since it is a life changing decision, but in one year or two I would like to know for sure. We left it at that.
Today we had another conversation/fight. As I mentioned, the situation is tense between us, but we have been trying to make it work. Today he told me once again that the cats have to leave. I said they are not going anywhere. He said he couldn’t believe that they are more important to me than him. I told him it has nothing to do with it, but that they are not toys you can take or give away as you please. We went back and forth for a while. Then the topic children came up again. This time he told me he is pretty sure he does not want to have any. Not now, not in the future. I didn’t know what to say. He asked me if I was a 100% sure I do want kids, I said yes. I asked him what he expected me to do now? Give the cats away and then not have any pets ever again and not have kids either? He said yes. He asked if he is not enough to make me happy. I told him he makes me really happy but I have to be honest with him and with myself. And I know I would not be happy without kids. There was a lot of silence.
He’s gone with a friend now. I’m home thinking about everything we said. This is a deal breaker, right? I am starting to doubt myself. What if we go separate ways and I never meet anybody I want to have kids with? I do not know that to do and I am really scared. Is this the end? 3 months ago I was sure we would get married and have a family together. Last year I was waiting for a proposal!
I also live in a foreign country. I already lived here before we met, I didn’t come here because of him. But it makes it a 1000 times worse being away from my family and friends. I am really sorry if my English is not perfect. It is my third language. I am also really sorry because of how long this post is. I just needed to get it all out. Thank you so much if you find time enough to read it and give me your advice ❤️

2023.06.10 18:42 JulietKilo_ Thinking about ghosting all my friends (long post)
This is going to be a very long post and I'm on mobile. Thank you in advance if you take the time to read my emotional ramblings.
I had an usually large friend group in college. I'm talking 15+ people in an active group chat who would hang out regularly. I met them through my boyfriend at the time, who I ended up dating for almost seven years. I knew these people very well and even lived with some of them. I thought our friendship was independent of my relationship.
After struggling for a year and a half, I broke up with my ex in the first quarter of 2022. I told him that I wanted to postpone thinking about marriage and he told me that he had already purchased an engagement ring. I immediately felt guilty and obligated to suppress my feelings of doubt. This was a terrible decision and led to an emotional affair on my end. I told my ex I was developing feelings for someone else and suggested counseling. We were long distance at that point so counseling was difficult and neither of us followed up on that conversation in the way we should've.
The other guy wasn't great. While I did lie to him and say that I was single, I made it extremely obvious that I wasn't ready for a relationship. I told him "I am not ready for a relationship. Don't wait for me." This guy became manipulative and emotionally abusive as soon as I tried to distance myself. He would call me until I answered, spam me with text messages, and show up unannounced at my apartment. He was drunk almost every time he did this. It scared me, I was already in a vulnerable place, and I was confused. I let this go on for far too long. This lasted April 2021 - October of 2021. My ex was made fully aware two months into the situation, and a good portion of our friends knew as well.
Now let me be clear: I am fully aware that having an emotional affair is wrong and I deserve consequences for that. It does not matter what was going wrong in my relationship or that the other guy was manipulative; I made the choice to become involved with someone else and continue to be involved. It is my biggest mistake and my biggest regret in life. It was a disgusting thing to do and I truly don't recognize myself during that time . It's wrong. Period.
Anyway, my ex and I continued to work on our relationship for five months after the affair was completely over. While I loved him, I decided that the relationship wasn't healthy and I wasn't happy. It felt like we were both walking on eggshells with each other. I didn't want us to end up hating each other, so I ended the relationship.
Things seemed okay with our friend group for months, at least 6 months or so. I entered another relationship and everyone seemed to change their opinion of me. It was admittedly fast, and I can understand why people would be uncomfortable. People (my "friends") began ignoring me, alienating me, and stating I was emotionally manipulative and abusive. One of them said that my apologies were fake, empty, and that I was using my therapy as an excuse to show I've grown but that's not true. That hurt a lot because I had spent months in therapy, months crying, months hating myself for my horrible actions. There are other things I can't mention in this sub, so to be told my therapy was an excuse was incredibly damaging the self-worth I had began building. She's not completely wrong, though I was emotionally abusive. I didn't know it at the time, but I was. I ignored my own feelings for the sake of someone else's, and I didn't know how to properly communicate what I was feeling because I had been shut down my by ex in the past. That's not necessarily his fault, as I don't know if he knew he was doing it. I didn't realize it myself until after our relationship had ended and my best friend pointed it out. I didn't have a backbone and I ended up hurting him much more than I would've had I been able to communicate.
While I am deserving of backlash for my affair, I do feel there is more to the situation that I am not being told. My best friend, who has remained neutral, informed me that my ex was under the impression we'd continue to work on our relationship. When I got into my new relationship, he thought I cheated on him again. This was never an conversation we bluntly had. We had a conversation where we admitted we still had feelings for each other and agreed upon what our biggest issue was. Neither of us took the initiative to say what should happen from there, so of my friend is honest, my ex made a huge assumption.
MAIN POINT Of this large group, there is a small handful of them who have reamined neutral and continue to reach out to. My best friend is one of these people, and she knows the full story from both sides.
It hurts knowing that the group is carrying on without me as if I was never important and as if I was replaceable to them. If my best friend is telling me the truth, it is hurtful to know that they're allowing people to treat me like shit based on an assumption my ex made.
I KNOW that my affair was wrong, but I truly feel there's much more happening here. My ex told me himself he was ready to move past the affair and wasn't going to tell anyone else. I feel fucking crazy, no one will be honest with me, and I don't want to sit around feeling like an afterthought. Despite the fact that these four people were here through everything, listened to me, supported me for years (including the affair period), I want to cut them off. It feels unfair to them, but I don't know if I want them around..... Am I overreacting? Is this selfish of me? Because again, I know I fucked up. But experiencinf consequences a year+ lager feels weird and like theres more to it... I can't keep hurting over the same thing

2023.06.10 18:31 pest0pasta_ Contrasting monologue and song help
Hi all, I’ve gotten to the second round of an acting competition and I now need to perform a (contemporary) monologue and song that contrasts to my first ones. I performed Sophie’s monologue from ‘honour’ by Joanna Murray Smith and I sang ‘part of your world’ from a little mermaid. I’m thinking of ‘Hopelessly devoted to you’ as my song choice and Mabel’s monologue from an ideal husband. My issue is I’m not sure if Oscar Wilde’s plays counts as contemporary I can’t seem to find answers online and I’m not sure if that song is contrasting enough. What exactly am I looking for when it comes to a contrasting song? If anyone could kindly help me it’d be much appreciated!

2023.06.10 18:18 i_hate_cfs Been seeing significant sustained improvement from a few different things
Hello friends,
Long time CFS sufferer here. I just wanted to share a few things that has allowed for a significant sustained improvement for 6 months now, I'm probably something like 75% better at least. I will list them and then discuss the logic behind why I think it's working.
- Zoloft (SSRI) - started at 25mg, worked my way up to 50mg daily
- High quality Omega 3 fish oil supplement - not talking about the lower quality ones you can buy off Amazon, rather talking about super high quality ones you can get online directly from the manufacturer. Not going to list brands as I assume that's not allowed here, but the EPA/DHA ratio on mine is 3:1 EPA to DHA. The total omega 3 content in its entirety is a bit under 2500mg per serving.
- Religious use of various calming techniques aimed at calming the nervous system. This includes meditation, staying off of all chronic illness forums/reddit, and taking any step possible to reduce both physical and mental stress (pacing included of course, I take it easy on bad days). Also adopted the idea that recovery is possible, which was extremely difficult at first, but just kept watching recovery stories and drawing parallels between them.
The logic behind why I think all of this works is due to CFS being a disorder of the nervous system (this is the opinion of the WHO, but it can vary between who you talk to). It makes logical sense in the sense that many, if not most of the CFS symptoms are symptoms of dysautonomia, a nervous system disorder. Now, why is your nervous system in this state? I believe it is due to chronic underlying stress/trauma (even if you don't think you were ever stressed), coupled with a "straw that breaks the camel's back" triggering event such as mono, covid, etc., which then induces this CFS-like nervous system state. The answer to recovery then would be calming the nervous system and reducing inflammation in the nervous system.
Zoloft - at first I started taking this only due to more and more panic attacks I was getting. It worked brilliantly for those, but then later on I also was doing some research and have seen evidence that SSRIs can improve stress response regulation, which is huge with CFS patients. See this paper here:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3223314/ Omega 3 - research has shown it can reduce inflammation in the nervous system. Even if the omega 3 isn't the primary driver of the recovery, it still has many other benefits (reduced triglyceride levels, possible dementia/alzheimer's prevention, etc.). I do think the dosing matters though, >1mg EPA per serving at least, and the 3:1 ratio. There are many studies on this, here are a few I just quickly pulled down:
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2022.933704/full https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7468918/ Other calming techniques - self explanatory. Really you just need to find something that works for you, and you have to be extremely consistent with it. Probably the more important thing was taking the gigantic weight off my shoulders that it IS possible to recover from CFS. I truly believe the stress of believing you are screwed for life is a major road block to recovery.

2023.06.10 17:53 Housing_Throwaway9 Advice about a back flowing sink not being repaired
Hey all, I live in Brooklyn and I've been having issues getting apartment repairs and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of resources to look into.
The story is—February 2022, the kitchen sink started back flowing. It got to the point where my wife and I were bailing about 15-20gal of water out every day. After some prodding, the super referred us to a plumber who, after several calls, came out, didn't fix it on the first try, came out again, and sort of fixed it so it wasn't back flowing for about a month and then not back flowing more than an inch or two into the sink and only irregularly at that. We more or less forgot about the issue until the beginning of June when it began to back flow again like it had originally. We called the super on June 2 and he again referred us to the plumber who didn't answer his phone, and then we proceeded to call both the unresponsive and otherwise unhelpful super and the completely unresponsive plumber all weekend. The plumber finally called back and wouldn't schedule a time with us, but said he would be there when he could. By Tuesday we called the super again because at this point the pipe (which was old) had rusted through and there was now a hole in the drain, and he managed to get the plumber to come right away. Plumber fixed the pipe, refused to acknowledge that the issue was anything other than a clog in the drain making the water back up, and then left quickly once there was no more water in the drain. About 5min after he left, I went to use the sink and it wouldn't drain at all, and over the next few days it resumed back flowing worse than it ever has, and won't drain at all. He came back Thursday after a really angry message sent to management about the issue and how we were being treated by both the plumber and the super, and we managed to convince him the problem was deeper in the plumbing of the building, which he finally agreed with. Told us before he left Thursday that he needed a longer snake to get to the clog that was causing the back flow and would return Friday. He didn't come back and now neither the super nor the plumber are responding.
My question is, what are some avenues we can use to either fix this problem or remove ourselves from having to deal with it? We called 311 at some point in this process and they've been slow to help. We got a call from HPD asking if the problem had been resolved and nothing else. I'm aware that Repair and Deduct is likely relevant here, but we're planning on moving out of the city in the fall, so a court battle over rent owed would be a massive pain in the ass. Constructive eviction may also be an option if we can swing getting out a few months ahead of when we planned, but again, I'm sure this would end up involving a court case about unpaid rent after we've left the city.
Anyway, does anyone know of any resources I can use or have any advice of avenues to pursue (recognizing that it is not construed as legal advice)? Or other subreddits to post this to? It's been two weeks of this, my body hurts from having to carry buckets of water from the sink every day, all the water is gray-water from other parts of the building, and my wife and I are afraid to leave the apartment empty for more than a few hours for fear we'll come home to a flood.

2023.06.10 17:51 Housing_Throwaway9 Advice about a back flowing sink when landlord is dragging their feet on fixing it
Hey all, I live in Brooklyn, NY and I've been having issues getting apartment repairs and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of resources to look into.

Current symptoms are similar to POTS, or IST, but not reflected on any tests. I've been suffering from tachycardia after a mild covid infection back in mid Jan 2022... Symptoms developed nearly 2 months afterwards, and have been ongoing since, drastically effecting quality of life. Autonomic testing results including QSweat, and Tilt Table all completely normal. Had ABI with, and without exercise both normal. All EKGs and Echos normal, and was told my heart is structurally sound. However I experience random tachycardia resting heart rate around 80 jumps into the 120s - 140s while doing nothing strenuous seemingly associated with postural change. Followed by brain fog, fatigue, exercise intolerance, blurred vision, confusion, pre syncope, coat hanger pain, leg pain that seems vascular but changes locations, air hungedyspnea, angina.
I was told to keep chasing and treating each of my symptoms, but have gotten no answers in 15 months. It is definitely not anxiety, because I am not anxious when these episodes initially occur. Please help me narrow down what this could be.

A DEFECT IN NEUROLOGY, NOT A DEFECT OF HUMANITY ADHD: A National Crisis
2023
To Larrakia Country I write to you from the lands and home of Larrakia, in the Northern Territory, which I am grateful to call my home too. Their elders, leaders and children are the owners and protectors of this land and its stories and songs. I am grateful for their hospitality and grace, considering the intolerance and violence that they continue to endure. I dedicate my work and myself to support their stewardship, in whatever role I am asked.
To my sons You are incredible people already. This is one of the biggest things I think I will ever do to make the world you are growing up in a better place than the one I was born into. We have already endured so much together, yet you go from strength to strength. The Blue Witch’s days are numbered.
To E, A, J, M, Ki, N, P, B, Ke, and all the Spirited Children Some might think I paint a bleak picture in this document. You all know this isn’t even the half of it. You deserve the life you want to lead, anything less is a failure, and should be unacceptable to all.
To Dad, Star, Cat, Moh. It is a comfort to know you are somewhere better, when we are left here.
A DEFECT IN NEUROLOGY, NOT A DEFECT IN HUMANITY ADHD: A National Crisis
Abstract ADHD is the biggest and easiest dealt with human challenge of our time. It is a debilitating impairment, that is lifelong and brings no inherent benefits or superpowers. It has likely been a part of hominid neurology for 300,000 years, and in that time it has been systematically rejected by genetic evolution as an enormous set of risks to the survival of the human race. It brings earlier death, more disease, isolation, hopelessness. Making the people who live with it even more remarkable. I have seen neglect, abuse, cruelty and ignorance that would make Dickens blanch. ADHD is routinely rejected, shunned and left in-addressed by Psychiatrists, Paediatricians, Nurses, Teachers, Judges, Police, leaving families in ruins, good and vibrant people be turned to husks, and children as young as 7 turn to suicide.
Not understanding it, not treating it costs our economy $20.5baud a year, if not more.
The need for a national effort to tackle the challenges is paramount to the future success of all Australians.
Self and Evidenced Truths.
- People with ADHD deserve recognition as living beings with rights, dignity, and aspirations despite our impairments.
- Fundamental to those rights, dignity and aspirations being observed we deserve guaranteed access to our medications, support, workplace arrangements and other accommodations across our lifespan.
- ADHD is a current and emerging Australian national crisis that demands immediate response in kind.
- ADHD is a chronic neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorder that impairs many aspects of living, at all points of the lifespan (Faraone et al., 2015).
- People diagnosed with ADHD face higher risks of other neurodevelopmental disorders, of suffering child abuse, experience school exclusions and engagement, discrimination, financial predation, other mental health problems, physical disorders, substance use, accidental injuries, chronic health problems and premature death, including suicide attempts and completions. Children are twice as likely to die by age 10, adults are 5 times more likely to be dead by age 25 (Barkley et al., 2022).
- Stimulant medications should be used as soon as possible and practicable following a diagnosis. Several Stimulant medications are safe and effective for treating ADHD and for preventing many adverse outcomes. Non-Stimulant and Non-medication treatments are less effective. (Storebø et al., 2015).
- ADHD costs Australia $20.4 billion per year in lost productivity, wellbeing, and public services (Deloitte Access Economics, 2019).
- There is a need for more awareness, education, and training explaining what ADHD is, as many people with ADHD remain undiagnosed and untreated due to ignorance, bias, or incompetence (Faraone et al., 2019).
- Australia’s attitude towards ADHD costly, uncoordinated, and unfair. This harms people with ADHD in multiple ways, such as limiting their ability to manage their symptoms, increasing their financial burden, and reducing their social support (Australian Clinical Practice Guidelines for ADHD Working Group, 2022).
As a Matter of Urgency
- The Commonwealth Government must fund a co-designed national awareness campaign for ADHD, highlighting its medical nature, the importance of early and persistent intervention and its impacts across the lifespan, and all aspects of modern life as a matter of priority. a. With particular focus on key peak bodies; Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency and its members, the Australian Council of Unions and its Members, Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority Curriculum, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Australian Finance Industry Association, Law Council of Australia, Police Federation of Australia, Universities Australia, and Australian Council for Private Education and Training.
- The Commonwealth Government must expand the professions that can screen, assess and diagnose ADHD to include Teachers, General Practitioners, Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Midwives and Remote Area Nurses, as well as expand telehealth options for remote areas.
- The Commonwealth Government must establish a national framework for ADHD assessment and support that clarifies roles and responsibilities of different agencies and ensures seamless transitions across life stages and reduce costs for government.
- The Commonwealth Government should mandate that bachelors, postgraduate degrees, and Community Service certificates and diplomas in health sciences, enrolled and registered nursing, education, community health, criminal and industrial law and allied health fields include compulsory modules in ADHD, co-designed with people with ADHD.
- The Commonwealth Government must delist methylphenidate, amphetamines, and their various formulations as Schedule 8 drugs and relist them as Schedule 4, they must also expand Medicare and PBS coverage for ADHD medication to include all people with a diagnosis of ADHD. This would reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with ADHD medication use as well as simplify the prescription and dispensing process for people with ADHD and their prescribers.
- The Commonwealth Government must fund presentation sensitive research on ADHD and its comorbidities, as well as presentation responsive training for anyone who cares for, educates, works with, or employs people with ADHD.
- The Commonwealth Government must direct new training and mentoring programs for practitioners, staff and community and health service delivery areas, focusing on Peri-Natal Services, Daycare and Primary School staff. Rationales Personal Experience My personal experience is as a father of a child with ADHD and as a sufferer of undiagnosed ADHD myself. My professional experience with government, hospitals, mental health, drug and alcohol case management, and the elderly, has led me to being an Advocate.
I suffered countless unnecessary medical, emotional, economic hardships and injustices throughout my life because of my undiagnosed ADHD. As a child I experienced routine ridicule, shame, and punishments. I was regularly abused and excluded by teachers, both immediate and extended family, peers, and random members of the public, verbally and physically. For symptoms, colloquially and incorrectly referred to as behaviours, of my Combined Presentation of ADHD. Combined Presentation of ADHD means that I have both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms. Symptoms are the observable signs of ADHD, such as difficulty paying attention, being easily distracted, fidgeting, talking excessively, not saying much, daydreaming, working memory issues, etc. Symptoms that informed my personality and identity, that I was targeted for, abused for.
As I grew up, contrary to popular belief that ADHD symptoms get better as people age, the effects of my undiagnosed ADHD quickly got worse. The lack of access to university due to needing to work to support myself and look after my ailing father put me in unskilled retail positions, which became administrative positions before accidentally falling into Community Services. Through those careers, the constant workplace bullying and harassment prior to my diagnosis, needing to leave positions that were constantly either short contract or put up for recruitment where my skills, knowledge and wisdom meant nothing has left me with a colourful and varied career. The experience is nice but puts me at a significant disadvantage as I get older. My undiagnosed ADHD made it possible for me to perform well in different jobs. But as I juggled time management, organisation, communication, and self-regulation I would be burnt out as I self-medicated with work, and I would become expendable. Less time in positions, less experience, less expertise, less money, less able to provide for my family, less able to take part in society.
Despite my experience with health systems and supporting disabilities, my son who is 5, is facing similar barriers already and he is aware of himself. Being unable to access practical support for his disability, medication has been rationed as though we should be grateful to be receiving any assistance at all. We are 6 months post the last review, and the practitioner we saw last, hopefully mistakenly, provided us with incorrect information. Both his school and education department in the Northern Territory refused to allow therapists into the school to do observations without onerous and impractical limitations, not least of which was opposing observations in classes which effectively means no inclusive practices. It has come to the point where, to conserve his and my own mental well-being we will have to close his plan out. This shows how the education system continues to fail to accommodate the needs of children with ADHD and violates their right to inclusive education, and not much has changed in 30 years.
The emotional and physical toll of everyday life with ADHD and past traumas makes life an ongoing struggle. My Combined Presentation ADHD, physically, is managed, but even that is tenuous. My health is up in the air, as getting regular reviews with a psychiatrist is impossible, despite the medication I am on being perfectly safe and the prognosis of my condition is unremarkable while on medication. Regular reviews with a psychiatrist are essential for monitoring my medication dosage, side effects, and effectiveness, as well as for addressing any other mental health issues that I endure. You’ll need to start another Inquiry before I talk about those though.
ADHD has meant more serious consequences, and harder to rectify situations: homelessness joblessness, discrimination, isolation. I am still standing but am never safe from them. These are some of the ways that ADHD, diagnosed and undiagnosed, has impacted my life. Due to the lack of recognition, respect, dignity that I deserve as a person, disability or not. I received my Diagnosis less than 3 years ago and already I have experienced the best stability and success I have ever had. In this 3 years I have been homeless, unemployed, suffering severe trauma and depression. All dealt with alone.
My NDIS application is now 18 months into its appeal. I wonder if it will survive longer than the AAT?
ADHD assessments and diagnosis: Children and adults with ADHD often face various gaps and barriers in accessing appropriate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services for their condition. These include lack of awareness and recognition of ADHD among health professionals and the public; stigma and discrimination associated with ADHD; variability in diagnostic practices and criteria; limited availability and accessibility of specialist services; high out-of-pocket costs for diagnosis and treatment; lack of coordination and integration of care across different sectors; insufficient monitoring and evaluation of treatment outcomes; and lack of evidence-based guidelines and quality standards for ADHD care. These gaps and barriers contribute to the underdiagnoses and under treatment of ADHD in Australia and limit the potential benefits of early intervention and quality care.
ADHD management: Qualified and experienced practitioners who can assess and diagnose ADHD in children and adults are in short supply, especially in rural and remote areas. This leads to long waiting times, inflated costs, and inconsistent quality of assessments, and cascading health outcomes. People with the Inattentive presentation of ADHD, which is predominantly girls and women, face significant gender bias in ADHD assessments, support services and research. This leads to under recognition, misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment and supports of both inattentive presentation ADHD and female-specific issues related to ADHD. Different sectors and levels of government fail to coordinate and integrate their support services for people with ADHD. This creates gaps, overlaps and confusion in accessing education, health, disability, and social services. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) staff, and feeder service staff incorrectly prevent and discourage people with ADHD as a primary disability from making access requests. This flows to review mechanisms, including the Australian Administrative Tribunal. This excludes and isolates many people with ADHD from accessing not just NDIS support, but any support at all. Many people with ADHD cannot afford or access ADHD medication, especially those who are not eligible for Medicare or PBS subsidies. This limits their treatment options and affects their quality of life.
The impact of ADHD on individuals, families, and society: Children and adults with ADHD have a significantly reduced life expectancy and are more likely to die prematurely from various causes, such as accidents, suicide, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and substance abuse. The reduction in life expectancy ranges from 9 to 13 years for people with ADHD compared to those without ADHD. The risk of premature death is higher for those with more severe ADHD symptoms, comorbid disorders, and untreated ADHD. In Australia, this means that (statistically) about 1,900 deaths per year would be attributable to ADHD, but further study would be necessary to investigate. Children and adults with ADHD are more likely to suffer from various chronic physical and mental health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, allergies, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and antisocial behavior. These conditions can impair the quality of life and functioning of people with ADHD and increase their health care costs and utilization. In Australia, the annual health system cost of ADHD is estimated to be $546 million. Children and adults with ADHD face various economic challenges and disadvantages, such as lower educational attainment, lower income, higher unemployment, higher poverty, lower productivity, higher criminality, higher health care expenses, and higher social service costs. The annual cost of ADHD to the Australian society is estimated to be $20.4 billion, which comprises $12.8 billion in financial costs and $7.6 billion in wellbeing costs.
Awareness of ADHD: ADHD is not a result of poor parenting, low intelligence, or moral weakness. ADHD is a lifelong condition that can persist from childhood to adulthood and affect various aspects of life. The importance of recognising ADHD as a genetic, neurological medical condition, requiring medication as a first line of successful management, and not a behavioural issue, cannot be overstated. Health professionals, educators, employers and the public lack awareness and understanding of ADHD, which causes stigma, discrimination and underdiagnoses of ADHD. Research funding for ADHD in Australia is inadequate, which hampers the development of evidence-based practice guidelines, interventions, and policies for people with ADHD. This also limits the opportunities for innovation and collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by ADHD. Children with ADHD typically receive a disproportionate percentage of school based harassment, both from peers, and education staff. Routinely EAPs are formulated in opposition to recommendations made by specialist practitioners, and children are severely punished for not meeting the often odious or impossible goals. Detentions, responsibilities, suspensions, supervision and expulsions are common place. In the classroom, ignorant and unqualified teachers harass students and parents to stop behaviours they, from no basis, deem developmentally inappropriate. Time off to be with the excluded children is often supported by employers, higher education facilities, until they decide that enough is enough. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that has a strong genetic basis. ADHD is associated with structural and functional differences in the brain, especially in the regions involved in attention, executive function, emotion regulation and reward processing. ADHD is also influenced by environmental factors that can affect gene expression and brain development. The name ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is inadequate and misleading for several reasons. First, it implies that the core symptoms of the disorder are only attention deficit and hyperactivity, while ignoring the causal and key features such as impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and executive dysfunction. Second, it suggests that attention deficit and hyperactivity are always present and equally severe in all cases of ADHD, while ignoring the heterogeneity and variability of the disorder across individuals, subtypes, and contexts. Third, it conveys a negative and stigmatising view of the disorder as a deficit or a problem, while ignoring the strengths and potential of people with ADHD.
Conclusion The writing is on the wall, whether you read it or not is irrelevant to its truth; improve the outcomes for people with ADHD and the entire nation will benefit, go on ignoring its magnitude and we will continue the cycle again, until the next generation finally addresses it. Addressing it represents net savings for the Commonwealth Government, and the states and territories. I think we could find other ways to spend $7 billion dollars than on badly managing ADHD in Australia.
I am happy to answer more questions or speak to any of the points raised herein.

2023.06.10 17:01 Adam_RJ Guidewire says Customer Centricity will Determine Success for Insurers in Latest Report
The report, entitled “How Insurers Can Support Their Customers in Uncertain Times,” examines how factors such as the cost of living, new technology, and data privacy are affecting consumer attitudes towards insurance and insurers.
The study was conducted by market research agency Censuswide and surveyed approximately 1,000 insurance consumers aged 18 to 55-plus years old in the UK, France, Germany, and Spain. The results show that while cost-of-living concerns continue to affect insurance spending for some, others are more interested in new technologies and data privacy.
Guidewire data points to proactive and preventative services
According to the report, there is an increasing demand from customers for more proactive and preventative services from insurers. Sixty-six percent of those surveyed in the UK said they would want access to services that warned them of potential damage before it happened, up 6% from 2022. Interest across Europe is even higher, particularly in Germany (79%) and Spain (82%).
Usage-based insurance (UBI) is also growing in appeal, particularly among younger consumers. Although the number of people in the UK with a UBI policy has only increased by 2 percent in 2023, the study found a greater shift in this direction among younger consumers. UBI use has grown by 5% for those aged 35-44 years, whilst the number of 18–24-year-olds with a UBI policy has increased 13%. Amongst those that do have a UBI policy, 35 percent say that they chose one because of the higher cost of traditional cover.
Data privacy has emerged as a key issue in consumer attitudes towards insurers, with more people becoming comfortable with data use in insurance.
However, the report found that people are still wary about how their data is being used. “Trust around how insurers use customer data is essential to innovation and change in the industry,” said René Schoenauer, product marketing director – EMEA, Guidewire. “Insurers can really remedy this misunderstanding and should highlight how smarter, sensitive use of data equals better pricing, flexible personalised coverage, and even services that prevent damage and loss happening in the first place.”
Big Tech are becoming significant competitors to the insurance incumbents
The study also found that while competition from big tech companies such as Tesla, IKEA, and Amazon is still a concern for insurers, their appeal to customers is showing signs of decline. Thirty percent of UK insurance consumers said they would use the new Amazon Insurance Store available in the market, whilst a further 30% responded that Amazon is a trusted brand and so see no reason not to use it. However, 17% said that they would be concerned with Amazon having more data on them and so may not use it, whilst 13% answered that they would not use it at all.
The report found that four in ten (42%) consumers are still considering whether to reduce their spending on insurance. In 2023, home contents insurance is the most likely cover to be cancelled, overtaking travel insurance which led in 2022. This is being driven largely by younger consumers, with over a quarter (28%) of those aged 25-34 years and one in four (25%) of those aged 18-24 saying that they would cut spending on home contents insurance. By contrast, older groups are less likely to cut insurance spending with almost three out of four (73%) of over 55s saying it was unlikely they would make a reduction.
“That the cost-of-living is still top of mind for many is hardly a surprise given the economic outlook. What is striking is that while younger people would consider cancelling their home contents insurance, older customers do not want to reduce their spending on insurance despite financial pressures.”
Schoenauer added. “Given that the financial situation may remain difficult for householders for some time, this suggests insurers need to develop and deliver new, flexible usage-based offerings to their customers as quickly as they are able to. These should be available for selected, important possessions, or provide protection for specific damages. It is exactly this kind of innovation that will show insurance customers that their insurers continue to understand their needs and that they are there to support them no matter what challenges they face.”

| ➡️ https://www.genkicourses.site/product/ry-schwartz-coaching-the-conversion-ctc-circle-10-2022/⬅️ Get the course here: [Genkicourses.site] [Get] RY Schwartz – Coaching The Conversion CTC Circle (10/2022) - Full Course Download What You Get: Program #1 CTC Launches (to master your launch and funnel sequences) 10X Launches is the first copywriting program fully engineered to speed up the execution and amplify your results of your emails no matter what kind of funnel or launch strategy you’re rolling out. Instead, you’ll get FULL breakdowns and walkthroughs of the go-to templates I turn to over-and-over again in 6 and 7-figure launch campaigns. Meaning, you get to craft your OWN high-converting launch emails in about 25 minutes flat and fire them into ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign (or wtv you’re using) while your coffee’s still hot. Program #2 CTC Sales Pages (to master your long form sales page) This is it. It’s where the best paid copywriters, coaches and course marketers on the planet earn their keep. Program #3 & #4 Six Figure Emails & Seven Figure Emails (for even more email conversion badassery) Welcome to the “Johnnie Walker Blue” of our email template series. This is the premium blend for more advanced marketing palates. All pulled straight from my highest-performing launches for industry titans like Amy Porterfield, Todd Herman, Traffic & Funnels, and Copyhackers. What you’re getting are 13 advanced email templates that you can use in a pinch when you need to write a standalone sales email, a webinar invitation, a post-webinar replay, downsell, or flash sale. To be clear, these aren’t those sketchy and lifeless “swipe and deploy” templates you may have seen swimming around the shadier parts of the online marketing cesspool. These are loose, flexible templates that guide you through deep-dive masterclasses teaching you the advanced psychology behind each one. Meaning, you actually understand WHY they work, and are fully empowered to engineer them to best serve your audience. Program #5 Minimum Viable Launch 2.0 (to quickly rock profitable and lean email launches) We’ve taken the single most impactful part of 10x Launches; the part that countless students have credited with producing game-changing ROI in record time… And given it a fresh-for-2022 facelift. Not only will you be getting access to a stack of NEW templates that we’ve added to the stack based on repeated tests and real-world results. But we’ll be offering you the one-click automation uploads to bring the whole sequence straight into your ActiveCampaign to save you and your team about 5+ hours of heavy-duty integration time. Program #6 Application Funnel Amplifiers (for creating powerful pre-call enrollment experiences) Fact: The enrollment experience begins the moment your prospect books a call. If you mail it in for those 12-72 hours between when they book the call — and show up to it, you’re missing a golden opportunity to begin coaching the necessary transformations. In this brand new program, you’ll learn how we to consciously engineering your entire application experience to pre-empt objections, create magnetism, and stack the odds in favor of having a successful enrollment conversation You’ll get practical answers to: - When you should be transparent about your pricing BEFORE a sales call
- How to strategically structure your application questions in a way that actually coaches your pre-customer into your program (yes, the questions are copy)
- What to put on your booking confirmation page to create incredible momentum and a “point of no return” into your program
- What tools and systems we use to create a seamless application and booking experience
Program #7 Next-Level Automation & Optimization Stack (upcoming and ongoing automation tutorials) As the CTC Membership evolves, our resident Wizard, Philip Powis will be actively adding a library of importable one-click automations (into ActiveCampaign), leveraged software playbooks, and a running list of the most advanced (and cost effective) tools and systems that he recommends for fast-scaling course and coaching businesses. Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybo****here's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.
“They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2022) FULL𝓂𝑜𝓋𝒾𝑒 ONLINE
Is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Available On Hulu?Viewers are saying that they want to view the new TV show Transformers: Rise of the Beasts on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free ****odes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Streaming on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Transformers: Rise of the Beasts season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, though Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will overtake it any day now.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
