2023.06.10 22:45 TonyMcTony [Pyanodon] Py Sci Pack 2 automated at 190 hours
| Since I sunk so many hours into this mod, thought I'd provide a sort of journal entry for my progress. This will be a long-ish post, so if you are not interested in my horrible life decisions, just scroll through and enjoy the pictures. I hope with this post, i can give some insight to the people behind me progressing in the modpack. And i hope to keep myself sane enough to keep going and write about my adventures to the next sci pack milestone, and eventually Pyrrhic Victory! Background: I started Factorio about a year ago, didn't really like it at first when i was playing through the tutorial, and actually stopped. I remember thinking "wow I just pipe water to the boiler, add some coal and my stuff are all powered?" that was sort of a turn off for me. But then after giving it another try, i decided to stick with it and try to launch a rocket. I played the default setting at first, and didn't like the pacing. I found myself advancing too fast through the tech tree. I got halfway through Blue science and didn't even really have a solid production of the components yet and felt like i was drowning. I restarted with marathon mode and it really clicked for me. Letting me learn about the basics before giving access to too many toys. In that mode i learned about dual loading belts, blueprints, trains (signals and station limits), and making 'somewhat' tileable/expandable productions. I didn't get into bots and i don't think i will. I only used Logistic bots to refill my inventory from malls and construction bots to remotely adjust my mining outposts. Launched the rocket in my marathon mode, and decided to seek more! Before i thought to jump into the big mod packs, i tried to do a marathon mode Space Extension game to learn about scaling. Wow that was not for me. I got incredibly bored of making the same thing in larger scales so i quit. So i looked for the next best thing in the list. Saw this Pyanodon pack and said, why not. Jumped straight in. The run: I started my foray into PY a few months before PyAE came out, and was sort of glad that i did around this time, so i didn't have to re-learn everything. I didn't really get too deep into PYAL yet. I had a few restarts due to realizing a lot of my errors, and decided to stop restarting about the same time the Caravan patch came in. The Caravans were so much fun, i stopped having any thoughts of quitting the mod. I started the game with the Py default settings (no biters and no pollution... my computer is old), and tried to keep it as pure as possible. The only mods i used other than the full PyAE pack were: - Even distribution (to save my mouse and index finger during the burner phase... clicking all the coal was a pain in the ash)
- Vehicle Snap (There is a lot of driving in this game, i think that's what Py intended... for you to explore. I got tired of veering off and hitting my electric poles so i made 1 tile wide brick "highways" to aid my driving, and use the mod to snap in the cardinal directions)
- To-Do list (I actually didn't use this mod much... i felt like i needed a to-do list to write the to-do list, so i gave up trying to make use of this)
- Playtime+ (Time flies fast when you're having fun. And this lets you see that :))
Since the devs of this mod pack revel in pain and suffering, i thought by keeping it as lean as possible, it would fulfill that goal. I've never used any of the other recipe searching or planning or calculator mods, i'll explain it later on if i remember.... *Sidenote about RSO* The base game resource generation is a bit janky when it comes to PY. I had to roll the map a few times because i'd say 5/10 the starting resource patches would overlap and you'd have an impossibly hard start if there's not enough iron or copper. While RSO solves this, it messes up spawning of the farther resources (So you can get unlucky and have no Zinc spawn closeby, but also on the flip side, lucky and trivialize the early game power puzzle if you get a Geothermal water spot that spawn 3-5 patches in a spot, you can run a centrifuge without any powerplans if you get 3-4 spots of 3-5 patches of geothermal! [Py default will only spawn 1 as they are very powerful in early science]) Here's the full map that i've explored. To find far resources (Salt/sulfuGeothermal etc.) i set up a fishturbine+radar in the 4 cardinal directions, let them scan fully, then move them clockwise to the intercards, let them scan, and etc. it was quite effective. Here's a closer look at the main area, with tags to identify general purpose of the spot Base showcase: K enough babbling, onto the important stuff. Start with the achievement - Py Sci 2 automated. I was going to get it under 190 but i forgot to ship my mechanical parts lol. A better view of the area. Primers, Retrovirus&DNA Polymerase, Good alien Sample and Py Sci 2. Eventually i might export science packs through that pre-planned train station (i.e. move PY sci 2 to Chem sci). Borders with the Arqad area since i needed vrauk cocoons and Arqad Venom Self sustained Arqad area. Makes its own ingredients for Vrauks and its food. I ship in Ralesia/Flora and Tin with Caravans, and have a train station bringing in red-hot coke and the Arqad combs Further down south from Arqad, i have my Korlex milk (& Casein/Tuuphra), Zipir, Paragen, Flavanoid makers. I had a tiny amount of fish makers here and quickly realized that it was quickly overwhelmed... had to expand another fish factory. The line of biomass will eventually reach my intended biomass processing area. For now it is not backing up anything (got one of those 800 slot warehouses holding animal parts [see my log sci area later]. I will make that biomass processing area soon.... Further away, at another tin patch, i started a fish factory. Here is also where i tried to play with the Aerial Discharge base. They are quirky but sorta not that worth it. I use 3 to go between this tin outpost (steam to mine) and my glassworks outpost to make steam to process tar (next screen) I realized that glass is getting used more and more and i needed to ship it (Mech parts, Biosamples, etc.) So eventually i had to create this little outpost where it receives overflow fuels (Petroleum and Gasoline) and also on site tar processing and burn all the fuel byproducts (Anthracene, aromatics, carbolic etc.) I ship out the pitch and creosote to help make red science bricks and sand casting and rails. The Aerial base here is the other end of the path from the Tin patch for fish. Steam is used to break down tar. I ship in syngas to power the oil burner for steam with an underflow. Biosample and redhot coke to the Arqad/Py Sci 2 area from before. I never automated Biosample before this (can easily hand craft for the initial ones for synthesis of Alien Life). Caravans bring in Titanium/Steel and Lead. Train ships in glass. At this point i started REALLY voiding stuff since it was getting too complicated to hook them all up to be used. Yes i can bring this muddy sludge to my moss area but it was not worth it. I never void anything with fuel values though (Except trace hydrogen in remote spots) since you can easily hook it up to overflow to a oil burner -> Steam engine. On to the best part (in my opinion). My Mechanical Parts 1 subfactory. I use 6 caravans here. My rationale is that these ingredients are used in small amounts, so 200 brains (200 round trips) of 1500+++ ingredients each trip should last me a life time. I ship in: Quartz Ore, Green circuits, Zinc plate, Rubber, Solder, and Tin plates. The Small parts and copper caravan outposts are exporter stations. I ship in glass from rails, make plastic from the wastewater from the Fish factory you saw earlier. AND.... I have a 'Janktown Express' train that brings in 4 obscure ingredients to the Mech parts factory. It brings in Titanium (just because its in the area) with the three ingredients requiring Antimony Oxide - Vitreloy (Brakes), Iron-Nex-Antimony (Shaft) and Lead-Antimony (Batteries). This is the original 'Janktown Express'. My very first train that i used to take 4 components to the Logistic Science area from the Antimony area. To this day this train is still on its own rail line and not connected to the main rail grid. Sorta like those 100 year old historic trolley trains that run through a main City. Side areas: Onto the other parts of my base, if you're still interested. Here's the Logistic sci factory area that the Janktown express drops off the 4 components to. The Auog/vrauk slaughter houses are just south and ships all the chopped up parts into a giant warehouse where it supplies the animal sample maker. Circuitry sends overflow parts to the composter for biomass. Cottonguts and Moondrops are just north (not pictured) Here's my Niobium area that i rushed since i was DYING for the niobium underground pipes. (Not sure if you noticed how much F-in pipes i have in my base yet). It's coupled with the oil sands processing area where i turn oil sands into Syngas. I like this avenue because it let's me use up all the waste products in my base. (Most) stone, and all gravel and sand are shipped here to make Filtration media/Activated Carbon. Stone is crushed into Gravel and excess gravel crushed into sand. Activated carbon turns the flue gas that Oil Sand processing produces into Syngas, and Filtration media turns the Bitumen from Oil sands into Syngas as well. It does mean i cannot burn syngas for nothing (like just using it as fuel for glass/smelters) as it WILL eat up all the stone/gravel/sand. Also have to ship in Zinc and Carbon Dust (from my Coal power plant area) via caravans Py Sci 1 maker with some landfill spaghetti before i was able to reliably mass produce landfill. I vent chlorine here since there's no good use for it (yet), and you will get A TON of it from NaOH. Here's the bulk of my power generation. I have only 3 geothermal deposits so far but even they are not able to power one centrifuge. (3 geo = ~150MW, 1 centrifuge = 207MW). This power plant provides 118x6 MW, produces ash in big quantities (and ships them out). Coal processing lets me mass produce coke through Red Hot Coke, and tons of coal dust for the Filtration Media area from before. I ended up making trees here, i think it was because of Coke -> CO2. I originally wanted to make bricks here as well (ash -> rich clay) for when i really need to jack up red science but i never followed through... i think it was not as efficient use of ash as i thought. I ship out coke here for train fuel, since you will make a LOT of them. Also i ship out hot air here as well to the smelter area. I really appreciate the tar deposits since there's a very simple tech that lets you make simple power setups. Tar + Vacuum = Coke + Heavy oil will let you run both Oil and Coal power plants to make power in a compact setup. the Tar deposits don't look like they will run out anytime soon either. I might make more of these tar deposits around the map later on. (I haven't touched crude oil yet, but will probably do so next). Nat gas (the last of the 3 bitumen seep resources) is required for Arqads. and Finally, a wide shot of the (starter) centre of my base, based around the crashed ship. This shows the seaweed/moss/ralesia areas better as well as the Auog/Vrauk areas, and Cottongut/Moondrop areas up top. The middle right side area was a LOT more congested with early smelting but i eventually moved them out to another area. Yes there's a lot of slaked lime pooled up that i am waiting for the next research (salt products) to use them. (Hope you like the creative use of landfill to cross lakes). Final Word: Some regrets that i had, and thought i'd share: - I really liked Caravans since they had near instant transfer (Faster than any stacked inserters... 1500 items per swing!). But i think i had a misguided vision when i used them for delivering raw ores to my smelting lines. They will require more maintenance from me (putting brains/food in them) as usage goes up. I am not looking forward to squeezing trains in to replace those caravans. But caravans for low quantity items are still amazing for their simplicity.
- I probably automated Py sci 2 too early? I still have a lot of Log sci techs to go lol. Still have Phosphorous, MIBC, Molybdenum, guar and lubricant techs to research (and the TURD upgrades, if im interested in any). I remember i was completely done with Py1 sciences before i got my first Log sci pack at around 50 hours.
- I hopped into Quartz 2 WAY TOO EARLY. i totally underestimated the amount of fine sand you need. My god you need a lot. It really crippled my petri dish making capabilities (and then crippled my Py Sci 1). I made a ton of sand makers and then ended up with a billion muddy sludge, and i finally gave in to voiding it indiscriminately (Overflow valve -> sinkhole). This might be the reason why i still have so many log sci techs to research. I will likely hook up the glass outpost to dump molten glass to my py sci 1 area before long.
- Not taking the time to learn and figure out how to deal with creatures that use 10++ barrels of liquids and barreling machines. I had my arqad/korlex facilities back up so many times because the barreling machine was full and they could not take out any more empty barrels causing a jam. I think eventually i realized that those facilities do not start taking any ingredients in until it shits out all the empty barrels. Once i started paying attention to this fact, i was able to solve this headache.
Some words for the dev team: - This modpack is amazing. I think not using any QOL mods really makes this modpack shine. I believe using calculators or recipe searchers, just basically turn this masterpiece into building Ikea furniture. I.e. you look up Py Sci 2, it spells out exactly what you need to make it and which buildings, and then you just follow it to the tee, place them one after the other, hook them up and voila, you (after a long time) have Py Sci 2.
- The buff to reinforced concrete, while INCREDIBLE (i can zip from one side of my base to the other, and don't have to rely on a car and avoid crashing into my own shit), made all the other cool tiles obsolete. Reinforced concrete is comparably much easier to make, and give the max speed (350%), while the other tiles (asphalt/iron oxide tile/etc.) give only 250% or matches the 350%. The higher tier cooler tiles should go up to even 500%. Also, i am not sure if the better tiles give faster driving speeds too? that would be nice too (if you don't rely on trains to get around).
- Caravans. Whoever made Caravans able to path through trees and pipes, made these guys so much fun to use. I remember before this minipatch, i had to design my buildings in ways that the caravan ogres don't get stuck. Now they almost always are able to find a way through unless you put overflow/underflow valves in tight pipe setups or they get stuck on another caravan lol.
- Solar and Tidal power seems a bit weak (at least at mk1). They are a pain to make and only give 5?MW (AND variable). Maybe if you bite the bullet and make a TON of them right when it makes sense to, it will pay off eventually, but so far the coal and oil powerplants overshadow the renewables. I assume when i get the processed biomass up and running it will be one more strike against Solar and Tidal.
Finally, i hope to continue this amazing modpack and maybe one day make that "PY COMPLETED" post like some of you have done so already. I really cannot believe how fast those guys who posted the PY COMPLETED posts have beaten this pack! PYAE only came out in december 2022? I cannot remember how many times i open the game, look at one of the recipes and immediately went to bed. I think it there were a good 3 or 4 times where i opened up the recipe for Good Alien Samples at night after coming home from work, take a look, and just shut the game down. If you made it this far down the post, thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed this post as much as i enjoyed playing Py. submitted by TonyMcTony to factorio [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 22:44 Sir_Squirrls What we found
When I was a kid I always loved playing detective, running around finding clues all that fun stuff. I have always been good at decoding and solving puzzles. Over time I got better at it, and now I constantly do escape rooms. I love the adrenaline rush, it’s something I would never not love. Now all that information is important.
I went out to a restaurant with my friends, it had great food and was overall a blast. I went to the bathroom not to long after arriving, and not to get to personal here but I have always been a awkward person when it comes to using a urinal so I usually use a stall. When I went to lock it I noticed there were some symbols on the stall. I new exactly what the symbols were, it was pigpen cipher. I took a photo of it used did what I needed to in the bathroom and left. While we waited for food I showed my friends the photo and they decided I should decode it while we wait. So I did. It translated to “4th window to the left from the door.” Which was right behind me, so I got up looked around the window, and boom there was more pigpen. Took a picture went back to the table and decoded it. This one translated to, “3rd streetlight right of door” So when we got done eating and payed, we went out looked and once again found more pigpen. We looked like 4 odd random dudes standing and starring at a random streetlight on some random dark windy night. I decided it and it said, “below in front blacklight” We looked down and saw nothing, me and one of my friends realized we needed to get a blacklight. We went to the family tree right by the place and bought a blacklight, then came back shining the light on the ground. Then there on the ground just as expected we’re words, an address to be exact. We went on Google maps and typed in the address and found out it was some abandoned bar. Us being the dumb 18 year olds we were decided to go, because we didn’t think of what could go wrong. It was some plain abandoned bar, we looked around and shined the blacklight to see if anything was there. We almost gave up cause nothing showed up until the light was shined on the entrance. There were words that said “Please get help” But yet again we didn’t think much of it, we honestly thought this was some dumb prank done by some 13 years olds trying to scare the shit out of people. But that was the stupidest thing we did. We went in looking for clues of any sort, and found a arrow pointing to the back. We were led to a dark room, and then the door shut behind us do to the high winds. So we turned on our phone lights, as me and my friend who was the stronger one tried to open the door, our good at lying friend tried to figure out what we should tell our parents on why we have been gone 2 hours longer then said. Our friend who was the curious one walked further into the room, but he quickly came running back with some disgusted and fearful face. He said we needed to get out now, and started to hyperventilate while crying hard. We all looked at him, worried and started to move a bit quicker at getting out. As soon as we got out he ran around the side to throw up, but ran back bawling his eyes out with a terrified expression. I want to the side of the building to see what he saw, and oh man did I wish we never came here. You could see footprints that looked new, and they where far apart so it looked like someone was running. Then a bit further up was a body, all cut up and bleeding. You could see their bones and tissue, the body looked like it was only there for a few days. Blood was everywhere and the more you looked around the more of peoples body parts you saw. It was mortifying. I threw up so much and ran. I yelled we needed to get out of this area and call the police. We called the police and told them everything that happened that night and what I saw, along with my friend.
That is a night I will never forget, and want to relive. It still replays in my head every day.

2023.06.10 22:40 Leather_Housing_1910 Easement trouble
Kind of a long story. Our neighbor (an old farmer who we knew well and were friendly with, had an easement on our property so he could use our road to access his fields as he had a farm. He ended up passing away and his (very greedy grandkids who never gave him the time of day) ended up chopping down his “family forest” that he loved and they use our road all day long letting anyone and everyone in and out at all hours of the day, leaving the gate open (we have goats that free range sometimes) and we live in an area with a lot of robberies and drug use and have already been robbed more than once. The easement agreement states that only people who NEED TO USE THE ROAD AND THAT LIVE ON THE PREMISES is allowed. Yet today again there was another uninvited guest who does not live here. They have five or more cars (that don’t live here) coming in and out all day from 6am to midnight and sometimes later. They shoot guns at all hours of the day, tear up and down the road doing burnouts with their trucks and don’t lock their side of the gate leaving us wide open to more robberies. What rights to we have? We’ve spoken with two attorneys and after months of paying and no correspondence we are not sure what to do. What rights do we have? We’re tempted to call the police when these unwanted guests show up but don’t know what’s in our rights. We have everything documented, and we’d like the easement removed as they have plenty of land to build their own road but as far as I’m aware there’s no way to end the contract for the easement. This has been going on for about 5 years and it’s getting old not being able to take my dogs on a walk because I’m afraid that they will run them over (also they let their dogs roam all over our property that tries to fight with my dog) and our goats as well. I very much need advice! Thank you to anyone who has suggestions in advance this is my first post and I’m at my wits end as it doesn’t even feel like my own home anymore and it feels like I have no rights. I just want to have them have their side and us have ours. I’d like to be able to let my goats out more often and to let my dogs run freely.

2023.06.10 22:39 hobbes3k I don't really see a lot of fancy Chinese food pics here, so I thought I share the nicer ones from our current trip.
| Unfortunately, my Chinese is elementary school level, so I don't know what any of the dishes are called. But if you really want you know (aside from "it's a crab"), then I can ask my wife or her family for the Chinese names. My wife's parents has been taking us around to nice dinners around the Suzhou, China area (west of Shanghai). And let me tell you, the Chinese love to order food! And they usually over-order since that's more "polite": I think it's partly because a lot of people from their generation didn't have consistent meals, especially the poor during the Cultural Revolution, and now it's so easy to order excessive amounts of food on whim (but that's another topic for another day). At some places with just the four of us, her dad would order like 12 full-size dishes. And of course we can't finish a third of them. I'm not sure which of the dishes are regional, but definitely not all of them (like the famous Peking duck). Obviously from the pictures, you can tell my parents-in-law love seafood, especially crabs and shrimps. There was one particular fancy restaurant where there was a mini seafood market next to the lobby with a lot of tanks where you can pick which fresh seafood you want. They even had turtles and frogs there. We obviously don't eat like this everyday. In fact the majority of the time, they eat very simply cooked food at home made by a helper. We have been going to a lot of nice restaurant lately because any remotely close family members want to meet us because it's our first time in China since our marriage last year. submitted by hobbes3k to chinesefood [link] [comments] |

2023.06.10 22:38 LuckyDuckyss Camino primitivo - sleeping outside, need help :)
Hi Im planning on walking camino primitivo in august. I was thinking on sleeping some nights outside.
I have never slept outside alone. I always slept in camps but I want to try wild camping on camino.
My gear list: Sleeping bag (-3 degrees celsius comfortable) - is it too warm? Sleeping mat Sea to summit nylon tarp Thermal blanket for emergencies Extra layer to put under sleeping mat and to put my backpack on
Is my gear suitable for the mountains in mid-late august?
Are there specific areas in the mountains where it could get extreme in night?
I wont sleep in forest because I know I would die of fear. Are there any areas of primitivo where wild life is very active and would potentionaly come to me (wolfs, bears, dangerous snakes etc.)? I heard that there are horses but I think I would manage a horse if it came to me. Im just scared of dangerous animals. Can I leave food in my backpack next to me? In my country we dont really have dangerous wildlife so we just leave it on us. Is it a good idea in spain?
Is there anything I should watch out for? Im not really a big outdoors person but I think Im not dumb and I will not sleep too far from cities so there is always a chance to walk in a night.
I will be glad for any tips!

2023.06.10 22:36 throwaway2278101 I am a survivor of the MSU school shooting. AMA
| Aight take two of this (hopefully no problems posted this time). Not sure why I’m writing this, can’t tell if i want a reference while everything is relatively fresh or if I just need to get my story out of my head. Catharsis maybe? Halfhearted attempt at healing? Who knows. But here goes I guess. I am verified on another post, and that’s my id at the top. This is my account of that day (Sorry in advance cuz this is gonna be a novel) At the time of the shooting, I was in my dorm. I lived in the north part of campus, though for anonymity reasons I cannot say which building. MSU north campus is set up so that there are a bunch of dorms on the western side. Moving eastward, there is the union, the medical center, Berkey, the art museum, and then a couple more dorms on the far east side (kinda like bookends). I was in the dorms on one side and some of my close friends lived on the other. For scale, from one set of dorms to the other is about a 10 minute walk (I have a bike so I could do it in two minutes easily). All these buildings are set facing Grand River Avenue, which is basically EL’s main strip. That’s where the target, chipotle, cvs, all the bars, etc are. It was a Monday night, but msu kinda has a party culture, so this area was pretty busy. I had actually talked to my grandparents at about 3:30 pm ish about going to the Union to “study”. The food court there has insanely good pork nachos, and if I’m being honest, I really just wanted queso. However, I was stressing about midterms and had a shit sleep schedule, so I ended up falling asleep. I tend to have a pattern where I’ll come home, take a giant nap, eat dinner, do homework like real late, and then get like 4 hrs of sleep. If I hadn’t fallen asleep when I did, I would have gone to either the Union or the gym around the exact time everything happened, and i would have more than likely crossed paths with the shooter. I remember waking up about 15 minutes before the alert first went out. Because of timing and my proximity to it all, it’s not unlikely that I actually woke up to the first volley of shots (I don’t remember this part, only the second volley). I was really groggy and kinda was just sitting in my bed when the alert came in. Lansing isn’t the safest place, so it wasn’t uncommon to get an email saying “shots reported at the intersection of A and B”. Usually these were from the east side of Lansing, not East Lansing proper. This was different though. The subject was just “Shots fired”. I saved the email, so below is the contents of the first emergency alert: “MSU Police report shots fired incident occurring on or near the East Lansing campus. Secure-in-Place immediately. Run, Hide, Fight. Run means evacuate away from danger if you can do so safely, Hide means to secure-in-place, and Fight means protect yourself if no other option. Monitor alert.msu.edu for information.” As I read this email, I began to hear “pop pop pop pop pop”. Looking back, this matches more closely with the Union shots (the second attack). I kinda immediately went into panic mode. I’m an out of state student, so I called my mom. She kinda picked up happily, but when I said “mom I need you to get on the parent fb page, they’re saying shots on campus”, she went into info overdrive mode. I immediately get out of bed, close the blinds, and turn off the lights. At some point i push my desk in front of my door (I lived on the first floor by an entryway). I kinda had a hard time with this because I couldn’t get it over my rug, but I eventually got it. I grabbed my pepper spray and hid in my closet. My mom was on ft with me and my dad was sitting next to her with the police scanner I sent to him playing. At that point we start hearing the first responders get to the Union and Berkey. I could hear a shit ton of sirens, and I vividly remember hearing the 911 dispatch call out at least two casualties, one of whom was dead on arrival (pretty sure this was Brian). At this point I was texting my best friend (she went to college about two hours away), a family friend, my ra, a group chat of online friends, and constantly refreshing yikyak. I don’t have Twitter but my best friend does, so I was getting pretty much all the info from everywhere. I think what usually gets lost here is that we all legit thought this was a terrorist attack on campus. People were running into dorms and screaming. A lot of these dorms are older (especially in north) and have heavy wooden doors. In a crisis, people slamming doors while screaming sounds a lot like gunfire. 911 calls were coming in from all 5200 acres of campus. People were convinced that the shooters were running with Ak-47s along the river (this turned out to be students running and a team of off duty officers). They actually evacuated Akers, which is pretty much as far from the Union as you an really get, because they were so sure the shooter was in the cafeteria. People were knocking on doors pretending to be police, and at one point, there were rumors of explosives being placed around campus. The scariest part was when the police scanner said that the shooter was in the exact same location as my friends were hiding in. I was convinced for a while that I would never see my friends again. The lockdown lasted for 4.5 hours. MSU is a huge ass campus, so they called in troopers from around the state and the fbi/swat teams as well. They flew helicopters around (the sound still gives me panic attacks) and systematically cleared every building on campus. There were still reports of single shots, but eventually people started to realize that it was probably over as no one new was getting hurt. There were a couple of funny moments though, the major one being when the 911 dispatch pages an ambulance for a girl experiencing neck pain from a car accident two weeks before (it broke the tension and the irony was great). Just after midnight, they found the fucker a couple miles off campus. Pretty much right after shooting up the Union, he fucked off to the residential sector of EL. He shot himself as police closed in and was declared dead on scene. At this point I was still in my closet and heard them as they found him / call time of death. I don’t think i slept that night at all. Once the lockdown was lifted, pretty much everyone who could left campus. I spent the night on the floor of my friend’s room. Around 6 am I went back to my room and packed a bag. We knew classes were gonna be cancelled for at least the next two days, and I knew I sure as hell wasn’t coming back that week. I’m pretty sure I eventually fell asleep around 9 am. I got picked up by my father around 12 pm. My mom wanted to immediately go get me, but my dad convinced her to wait until morning. At that point I was pretty much the only person I knew that was still on campus. Going outside was the weirdest feeling ever. Campus was dead quiet, and I could see a bunch of yellow police tape. I just remember sobbing in my dad’s arms and telling him “im glad I got to come home”. submitted by throwaway2278101 to masskillers [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 22:34 furtive Trip summary: 4 nights in Vegas at MGM Grand
We did 4 nights in Vegas this week, Mon through Friday, staying at the MGM grand.
MGM Grand Hotel: nice hotel, well located not too far down the strip. We had a grand king room and it was clean and well appointed and while not brand new, didn’t look worn down or dated. it was a perfect fit for the budget, and the confidence of having a smoke free room was great. We didn’t eat on site except for a lazy buffet day/pool day. Crowd was all conference and low key from Mon-Wed, not too busy at all, then on Thursday the unwashed masses began to appear, and the nightlife also became much more vibrant.
MGM Buffet: I got a two for one voucher through the myVEGAS Slots app and about 9 days of play. The buffet vouchers always seemed to be sold out but about 48hrs before my departure I managed to get one. Buffet was fine, the food and selection was good, the look was a bit dated. New menu items started showing up around 11am. Probably not worth the price for two full adults, but with the 2 for 1 it was worth it, the wife was very happy and I saved $30+ because of the app.
MGM pool: Lovely, we spent two full days here. All pools and river were open except the Splash pool, which looked okay but was closed the whole time, probably because things weren’t crowded. No problem finding good free seating, much harder to find free seating with shade but we got lucky on the Tuesday and there was decent cloud coverage on the Thursday. All seating on lazy river island was reservation only. Way quieter on a Tue than on a Thu. Didn’t get a floatie, they were $25-30+tax depending on the size, but never felt we needed one. Bag check was low key.
Cheap eats: we did Shake Shack and In n Out burgers and both were great, with Shake Shake winning by the tiniest of margins. Oh, and Evel Pie for a quick slice away from the bustle of Freemont.
Expensive eats: we did Momofuku and enjoyed the menu, best item (hard to believe) was the brussel sprouts and cauliflower.
Cheap activities: We enjoyed the volcano at the Mirage more than the fountain at the Bellagio, maybe because we came in with zero expectation. Too bad it won’t be there for long, glad we saw it. Pinball Hall of Fame was also a great value, we split $20 between the two of us and were there for well over an hour. Conservatory at Bellagio was way too tacky for our tastes.
Other activities: Blue Man Group was great, make sure you buy tickets from the MGM site and not from the BMG/Ticketmaster site, saved about $40/seat that way. Cirque de Soleil O had the most impressive stage set I’ve ever seen, magical really. Omega Mart was fun, we had 11:20am booking but would recommenf you book for 10am and make sure you’re on some drugs first. Vegas Neon Sign museum was good but short and felt a bit like a graveyard, lots of potential but $20/head was a bit high. Freemont was Freemont, but driving from Freemont down the strip at night was great and felt like out of a movie.
Side note: We rented a car on the Wednesday and did Red Rock National Park, Area 15, In-N-Out Burger, Pinball Hall of Fame, Neon Sign Museum and Freemont all in a day, it was totally worth it and added to the Vegas/Desert experience. Our only regret was that we could have spent 4-8 hours hiking at Red Rock but had tight 11:20am reservations for Omega Mart so that part felt rushed (we’re from Canada, seeing cactus and sand in the wild is wild!)
Other tips: don’t buy booze in the hotels/casinos, way cheaper at CVS/Wallgreens, same for food/snacks whenever possible. Uber from airport was $6 cheaper than taxi.
Canadian Tip: ATMs are a scam here. Casinos/hotels charge $9.99 just in ATM fee, it was 1/3 of that at Walgreen/CVS. And that’s not the half of it. Get your cash once and be done with it, and watch out, they will offer to “exchange” your currency during the purchase path, decline because there is a huge markup, let your bank do it instead. For example, I took out $400 USD, ATM offered to do the exchange with total coming out to $607.88 CAD but by declining that and having it use the exchange from my bank I paid $561.24, saving me $47 in scam markup.

https://discord.gg/2EQPEZ8 Server Restart Intervals Are At 5:40AM PST - 11:40AM PST - 5:40PM PST 11:40PM PST
BASE BUILDING: AT THE MOMENT TRADERS DO NOT SELL NAILS/FOOD/ARMOR, for a more survival feel we made base building a little more grindy than other servers for a better experience (MOD: BASE BUILDING PLUS), THERE IS NO BUIDLING NEAR PVP ZONES, HIDEOUTS, OR TRADERS (500m from Hideouts/Traders, 300m from PVP zones). Get your grind on and have fun with more of an immersive pvp building system. We have BasicTerritories/PVEZE Flag Zones. You need a flagpole to make a base & you need a flag fully raised on your pole to enable PvP. Since we use PVEZ the flags help in case you need to defend against a raid. The flag also helps keep all your items secure from poofing away. Sadly bases can be raided even with your flag pole lowered. So it’s recommended that you keep your flag pole raised.
ALL BASES HAVE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF VEHICLES THEY CAN POSSESS! Each base can have a max of 3 Land Vehicles & 2 Helicopters (This Is To Help Prevent Lag)
PVP ZONES/PVE: All PVP Zones contain either a military spot on the map, or Custom Keycard areas, Custom Key Cards spawn randomly around the map or in airdrops/military bases/bunkers.THERE IS ABSOULETLY NO KILLING OUTSIDE PVP ZONES, what ever damage you afflict on another Survior, that damage will come back to you, this a noob/pve setting of a server so show some respect.
KEYCARDS: There many different keycards you can get but they all are different. Some have different loot, some have mixed loot. Rare keycard rooms give 10x better loot than normal military/bm loot. There Is 2 Red/Black/Violet/Green Rooms. 1 Yellow/Blue/Med Lab/White Rooms.
Right Now The Keycards Ranging From Best To Worst Are Red, Black, Yellow, White, Violet, Green, Blue, Med Laboratory. There will probably be more in the future. Red Keycard Loaded but is suuuper rare.
(NOTE: Right now please don't fly into keycard areas. We recently added helis again and some areas are possible to fly into (AI will probably shoot them down but still we want keycards to be used to access keycard areas. ALSO When you open a keycard room it will stay open until server restart because the loot crates wont reset until after restart)
THE BUNKER: Right now there is currently 1 bunker on the server. You need a White Keycard to enter it & when you enter it turns to total darkness. You'll need a light or nvgs too see anything after entering. This place is worth checking out but be careful of possible chances of Zombies/AI. The bunker is really nice for finding blackmarket items and chances decent/guns/armoammo.
TRAVEL TRADER: We recently added a trader that can change locations and also change what they Buy/Sell! The Travel Trader Can Spawn At Any Keycard Locations (Based On When I Move Them) & Trades Rare Items Other Traders Might Not Sell Or Might Buy/Sell At A Discount!
TRADERS: Traders are all around the map and they only sell certain items there. Very high powered weapons cannot be bought a civ traders, they will most likely be purchasable at Blackmarket or not purchasable at all, you will need to scavenge your way around the map if you want to be the best, there are no handouts. Normal Civ Traders will have the essentials there to survive.
AI/BOSSES: AI spawn at all keycards/hideouts except Blue/Green Keycards. They have a chance to spawn anywhere else. There are 3 Bosses on the server. Killa, Zryachiy, the Goons. Killa spawns at Red/Black/Yellow Keycards. Zryachiy spawns at Prison Island. The Goons can spawn at Red/Black/White/Med Lab. The Goons are the rarest Bosses to run into right now while Killa and Zryachiy are about the same. Killa and Zryachiy can have guards.

2023.06.10 22:24 Muffinfeds Interview with QAHALOM Founder
Interview with Leslie Arbouin Vargas. Founder and CEO of QAHOLOM.
Tell me about QAHOLOM. I had been thinking of becoming independent for many years. During this time, I was working in Multi-Latin and Multinational companies like Grupo Familia, Jerónimo Martins, Ernest & Young Consulting. The time came where I decided to take the giant leap forward with all the experience I had accumulated. I had the motivation to be a grain of sand in the country and help with employment opportunities for people and help bring my business idea to the country. I wanted to take advantage of the knowledge I had gained in IT and use that in a closer circle. In addition, the generations of today don’t have as many obligations as we did when were growing up so I wanted to create an economic company where it could be maintained over time rather than risk of being replaced at any time. With all these factors and looking to start a new company in 2016, I decided to retire at my previous position to go after my business idea. Let me just say it’s not easy to decide to leave everything and get out of your comfort zone to lose your monthly salary to pursue your business idea.
Anyways, I left my previous company and dedicated myself to study for three months to create the business plan and business model. I’ve always been very fond of information technology, of the importance of information and the potential that information has. That was my main vision during those three months. This was back in 2016 so remember that back then the terms of artificial intelligence, robotization, digital automation knowledge was still ethereal. I wanted to make those technologies that were already available in Colombia at that time, in companies like Bancolombia or Sura. The processes existed in these very large companies, and I wanted to be able to democratize that access to smaller companies. I began to see that many of these features are charged on demand. The development of the cloud came with great force, through the clouds of Amazon, Microsoft, Huawei. They had been implementing consumption by demand for interesting technology. I was quite interested in this so I decided to go more into the demand management path. After a long time thinking about this, I decided to start.
I was following our company’s phrase phrase: “The future isn’t predicted, it is created”, a phrase from Abraham Lincoln. And from so much thinking and saying “Where is this going to go? What am I going to do?” In that moment it was very hard for me to understand where the technology was going. I said to myself, “Just roll up your sleeves and start with what there is”, and that’s how I decided to start… without even knowing very well what I wanted to build. I was looking to manage complete automated business processes, and not get into the world of pure automation because I don't think pure automation has much value compared to an automated management process. Another pillar was the human value. We never justified a project by the number of people that are replaced, but by the scalability that can be given to the business through the way people work with the technologies. People start to change their mind and they start to change their professional profile and really enhance their value. We approach projects more from that point of view than from the replacement of human resources.
We began with our first client who believed in us and again, we didn’t know what technology to use or how to build it. We slowly began to find the way. We kept looking back at the company phrase I mentioned earlier. It has to be this way, by doing and if not, there is no other way. From there we found the method, the form, how to sell. At first it was very difficult for people to understand me, what we wanted to do, it was even hard for me to explain it because I didn't know how to put it together very well either. Over time we were able to explain our services well. The Pandemic arrived and although it was scary for all of us, it was very important for us because there were more ears in terms of digital issues and it facilitated the entrance to the organizations. We started contracting people and thanks in large part to the pandemic, we never decided to open a brick-and-mortar office. Today, I have many employees that aren’t in Medellín and are in different Colombian cities and countries.
Our business is focused on offering the possibility to digitalize your workforce through a mix of technologies: Digitalization, cognitive learning, robotization, artificial intelligence, and visualization. We master digital work. What we do is we use a virtual machine, and we put it into the organization just like when a consultant arrives at a company. The company then gives me access for that computer so I can enter and access the tools with which the virtual machine needs to work internally, for example, e-mail and operating systems like SAP or Oracle, base applications like Microsoft 365, company databases. We also integrate our application so organizations can interact with the information because it’s not just automation, it’s managing the process from end to end. There will be points where users need to interact with the organizations. For example, “Give me your opinion on this. Send me this form so I can include it on this billing process”, so they work with the human teams. We charge under the SAS model. So, let's say for the companies, they don't need to erode their capex initially. They can charge as an operating expense and there are many, almost all of them already enter it as an operating expense. What do companies get? It allows companies to have complete control of the process, visualize processes that were previously invisible, as they weren’t digitized, improve productivity, have the employees focus their attention on things they actually want to do.
Of course, there’s always the fear that employees will be replaced by machines, but what actually ends up happening is humans shift to the tasks that they actually enjoy. I’ll give you an example, we worked with a client, Pintuco, and they had the same fears. We did a workshop with the employees and the boss, and we asked them what they needed in their jobs, what did they always ask their boss about, but the boss didn’t have the human resources to approve that request? They told us that are always stuck in the computers instead of working with the vendors. The conversation got very interesting with the employees saying that they don’t have time to talk to the vendors and clients. Now, they have an additional sales force that accompanies the customer, the vendors because the information needs to pivot back and forth from inventory to transportation. So after we came in, that team became an additional sales force, no one was let go. They’re now able to sell better and sell more.
What inspired you to create QAHOLOM? I don’t think there was anything specific. It came out of many things, what you want from life, what you want to contribute society, what are you passionate about, what you want for your future. I can’t pinpoint something specific, but I always was motivated to be an owner of a company. Since Uni I carried this motivation, and it was normal to have fears about starting it. I always think if a Uni graduate who wants to create a company like QAHOLOM, what would their journey be like? Well, honestly it would be almost impossible. The reason being that you’re just a Uni graduate with no work experience and you’re suddenly approaching CEOs of big companies and you’re trying to sell how you’re going to scale their business with technologies. It’s going to be a hard road convincing them of all of that when you don’t have experience. Anyways, I always had the vision of wanting to be an entrepreneur.
Tell me about what you do on a typical day. What do you do at your job? Everything. Most importantly, I sell everyday. I call potential clients whether it’s the first call or it’s the second call, or to charge them. I have meetings with the team to know what they’re doing. We use digital tools to be able to work wherever we are. We use tools that help us construct diagrams, models, and brainstorming because this is key in our area. I work with the accountant to look at the invoices, charges. I meet with partners who I’ve had the pleasure of calling partners thanks to doing business with them. It starts when you are in a company, you are very involved in your topic. You meet many people with many interests, and you can see a possibility for business in other areas. I help develop ideas talking with people, small businesses who are just starting to grow. I’m always working on everything!
What do you love about what you do? I love seeing people grow, change, and improve. We have a focus on the education side too. We have two people in distant locations who we hope can use the tech we use. Right now, we are helping them in this educational process so that one day they can join the company or other companies within the same sector. That’s a big focus for QAHOLOM, being able to help people grow professionally. In the company, I have people from Chocó, people from very humble backgrounds. We finance part of their educations; we help prepare them with technological knowledge. All of this is something I’ve always been passionate about. It motivates me to grow more so I have more money to finance education for people who want to self-improve.
Another thing is being able to contribute to the economic employment here in Colombia, to be able to provide a formal employment to someone and give them a good salary. Transfrorming society even in the smallest circle that you are a part of – that’s something that motivates me. Lastly, I love information at the professional level, how can one transform companies from the use of information technology?
It's funny, I’ve had zero turnover since I started the company. There was one person who left on their own terms because he asked for a promotion, but I couldn’t give him one at the time. The next day he came in and finished the company. This was three years ago, he had access to everything through the Cloud and deleted everything! So, when we woke up there was nothing. We were fortunate enough that Microsoft helped us from India and other countries, and we were able to recover a large part of our operations. Our clients understood what happened and waited for us. After two months, we were able to re-establish our full operations. I tell this story because it’s like if you brought someone in to work for your factory and they light your factory on fire. After him, no one has left our company, everyone has been happy working at QAHOLOM. That’s beautiful to me because I initially thought I was going to have high employee turnover, especially in the technology sector which is used to high turnover.
What’s the hardest part about what you do? The hardest part is the most passionate part, maintaining the team and maintaining the self-development of the people. It takes time and effort to motivate them, stay present, see the work advance, maintain the discipline, maintain the methodology, etc. The people are the most beautiful part and the hardest part at the same time. The tech is hard but once you study it, you learn it, if the methodology is complex, you work on it in a disciplined form until you get it. People always have moving variables so it’s the most challenging work.
Tell me about some plans QAHOLOM has for the near future. We want to become the biggest support labour force through digital technology. If someone wants something incredibly fast, we want to be able to train that algorithm to meet that demand. So the challenge right now is perhaps to increase the speed of training on algorithms and mediating the incorporation of new technologies. Today we’ve incorporated Azure OpenAi and that’s helped us improve our training speed significantly. Right now the goal is to take on the new challenges of technology and improve the training of the digital labour force.

2023.06.10 22:23 paragorika Lupus rash?
Hi! Last year I started getting a lot of weird symptoms like joint pain, leg cramps that wake me up at night, a heavily flushed face after eating or going out in the sun, many usual foods now cause stomach pain, hazelnuts and eggs started triggering allergic reactions that I have never had before. Also, my fingers would sometimes turn white and numb as if blood would stop flowing to the phalanges. The generic blood test showed anemia and elevated monocytes.
All of the symptoms would come, stay for a few days and go, except for the red face after eating so my first thought was diabetes even though I am most likely underweight. When I went to an endocrinologist this February he suggested I get checked for lupus. I also got diagnosed with PCOS (idk if this could be relevant xd)
The symptoms are indeed very lupus-like, however, I have a different kind of red rash. It appears only on my cheeks, or when one time it was a very heavy one, it spread all over my face except for the area around my eyes making me look like a red and white panda. Next, it never stayed for more than a day in a row, it would reappear sometimes after eating (especially something high in sugar).
Has anyone had a similar experience with the red rash?

2023.06.10 22:18 invisible_ring New Grad Compensation
I have an offer:
Base: $120k RSUs: $80k over 3 years One-time bonus: $15k
I just completed my Master's. I had 1.8y of previous non-US tech consulting experience. This is an entry-level role in a FAANG-adjacent company in the Bay Area and I'm pretty excited. I have no other offers or interviews.
Is this good? Should I try to negotiate the RSUs or the bonus? (The base is non-negotiable.) Or thank my stars and accept it as is?
Do I even have any leverage for negotiating?
And what is my TC exactly? This is my first job in the US btw.

2023.06.10 22:17 Cool-Room6395 What would you say is a good part time job for autistic folks.
I’m an almost 20m and haven’t had a job. My first job was at a Pizza Hut, but I suck at listening to instructions and socializing. Also I get easily overwhelmed.
My main idea was to become a delivery person for Amazon or something. One I don’t have delivery people’s food, I would be driving place to place on my own. I would get physical action from loading trucks and moving boxes and delivering them. And I hear drivers and delivery people get paid a lot more than say retail or whatever.
Problem I haven’t got my license yet I have a permit and have completed the class part of the dmv program all I need to do is the final exam and get my license, but I hate driving and my mom is a pretty shitty teacher yelling and putting pressure on me instead of understanding my limits and feeling comfortable on the road.
There’s also school and I’m planning on getting a job as a computer programmer so I could learn to code and work from home. Which is great because transportation is an issue and I wouldn’t have to worry about social crap. Also coding would be cool as just a practical thing cause I’m a creative person and want to develop games, websites, and I’m into animation and stuff.
So any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
PS: does anyone know if there’s a subreddit that is basically about beginner life advice like doing taxes and paying bills. Also with budgeting and what have you.

2023.06.10 22:15 Terrible_Yolk12 What should I do after not getting a promotion I believe I deserved?
For context, I (24M) work as a sales analyst for a big (not huge) company in my country. I have been at the company for almost 3 and a half years, and at my current position for almost a year and a half. I know it is not a lot of time, but for refference, out of all the analysts in the area (12 in total, not counting another 3 who quit in the last 6 weeks because they found better jobs) Im in the top 3 regarding seniority (in time) in the area (and the only one who has been in the company for over 2 years). Recently a Sr position opened in the area, and I requested the position, together with a workmate who started in the company about 6 months ago. Given that I often work overtime (even though I am not paid to do so - it is legal in my country), I have the most knowledge of the business given the time I´ve been here, and the fact that my boss regularly tells me that he is very happy with my work, I really thought I was the logical choice for the position. Last week my boss and I had a meeting in which I was told I was not getting the promotion, but my workmate was. When I asked why him and not me, he told me it was because my coworker had managed to make "transformational changes" in his position, which I had not; to which I responded by saying I am constantly swamped and answering requests form different managers, and have to dedicate my own time whenever I want to do something "extra" or improve an existing process/task. Even though he acknowledged that I have the heaviest workload and the most challenging position in the area, he said that I never approached him asking to postpone other tasks in order to spend time making these "transformational changes". Before this, I really saw myself working for a long time in this company, but now I really dont feel like my work is appreciated. I'm going to stop doing overtime (which often included weekends) and basically start to do the bare minimum, since I don't believe my effort is being valued. Should I start looking for a job elsewhere? O ir is it too drastic?
PD: I also want to clarify that I have nothing against the guy who got the job. I know the is s good worker, but I´ve talked to some other coworkers and they told me they were also surprised when they heard I didint get the job.

2023.06.10 22:15 repulsims 37M SoCal - looking for friends to voice[chat], watch things and game with!
Ahoy there! It's been pretty lonely lately, so I figured I'd put myself out there and try to make some new friends. I'm of SouthEast Asian descent born and raised in Southern California. Definitely more of an indoor person, but I'm making an effort to go outside more and explore new places. Also a bit cringe so don't say I didn't warn ya!
I'm a huge fan of anime, science fiction, fantasy, documentaries, procedural crime shows, and series like Futurama, The Simpsons, Love Death Robots, and The Twilight Zone. I also enjoy playing a bunch of PC games (open world survival, fps, rpgs, fighting games, ect), so hit me up if you want to game together! I'm open to trying anything that looks fun.
Currently trying to improve all areas of my life and trying out new hobbies, listening to new music, watching new things. Mostly trying to get outside my comfort zone and do things I normally wouldn't. Feel free to send a message if you're up for a friendly chat/voicechat but I'm going to ignore all "hey, sup" messages. Not asking for a lot of effort tbh, just tell me a little about yourself. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What movies, foods, games, or songs are you really into? I look forward to getting to know ya!

2023.06.10 22:11 South_Suggestion359 Is this normal ? Saw this tube dripping something earlier today after I parked
| So earlier today I was just driving home minding my business, then when I got home I noticed that there was a drip under my passenger side tire/door area. I got under the truck upside down under the curb to try and see it but couldn’t see anything. Afterwards, I opened the hood and looked in that general area and found this tube that looks like it may have been cut or something? I have no idea. I don’t know much about cars and stuff like that, but! I wanna learn! Anyways, I wanted to post this on here to ask if anybody knew what this is and if this is normal for this tube to be open and dripping? Is it by mistake or design? Kind of odd if you ask me. If this is by design, they could have designed it a touch better, maybe? Anyways, any and all help is appreciated! (: And sorry that this is so long, I’ve posted twice already and had me delete it bc it wasn’t “enticing a conversation” enough. So yeah ! submitted by South_Suggestion359 to ToyotaTacoma [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 22:10 KrakenSpanker Beyond the Pale festival 2023 - Qs for whoever attended last year!
This year’s lineup is going to be
incredible! We’re travelling from Canada for the occasion, and wondering how to prep (already being veterans of multiple outdoor fests).
Questions for those who went last year:
- did food vendors accept cards or cash?
- was there any built-in lighting at night around camping areas? (We’re trying to decided how many flashlights and lanterns is optimal)
- were the festival grounds more on the muddy or grassy side? (Hoping to the pagan powers that be that weather stays sparkly for everyone)
- any bugs to worry about out at Glendalough?
Thanks…can’t wait to see you all there!
(If any other queerdos will be in attendance, especially those who are PUMPED about the summoning of our patron saint of ferocity Grace Jones, feel free to connect…we can create a camping neighbourhood ;))

2023.06.10 22:08 ohdammitpacho I want to sue my abusive grandma for custody of my sister, is this even possible?
Hi guys, this is a wild ride and I have to pullout a lot of detail to make sure it wasn't too long. Please feel free to ask for more info. Anyways, here's the tea:
When I(22F) was 12 years old, my mother(50sF) lost custody of her 5 children. My father(50sM) fought for full custody, but the youngest two were not my fathers children. The youngest (11F), had a different father that had partial visitation rights and the second youngest (18F) had a deadbeat dad that only has seen her thrice in 18 years.
My father unofficially adopted the second youngest, and he was, by all definitions of the word, her father.
However, my grandmother(78F) hated it. She didn't like my father (or me because I'm "just like him") because he wasn't the religion she follows, because he drank and his race (he's not white).
When my father fought my grandmother for custody of second youngest, he was granted temporary custody and visitation rights. Once in court, my father even called my sister and asked "Am I your dad?" and she replied matter-of-fact "uh, yeah duh".
At the last minute, my grandma decided to sabotage him by accusing him of molesting his children. She convinced a good amount of the family (her children) that he did, even though she didn't have any evidence and his daughters vehemently protested such accusations.
He lost, and my grandmother was granted custody. 5 years later, our dad passed away, and our grandma officially adopted the two of them. At that time, I promised them I would come back when I was grown up to "save" them.
Well now, at 22, I moved into one of my grandmothers properties (lease and everything) in preparation for my sisters 18th birthday so we could move out together and she can get the start I wasn't given.
Since moving, my grandmother claims that I'm "evil", that I'll push my youngest sister not to believe in god, to be gay, and to be provocative. For clarification, I'm not married but I've been with my bf for 5 years and he's the only man I've ever been with. she thinks I will convince her to have premarital sex because of this.
My grandmother kicked the second youngest out at 18, claiming she was too old and tired to take care of her any longer, but then refused to consider letting my youngest sister stay with other family.
Now, she wont let me see my sister at all, and packed her schedule full of extracurriculars specifically so she couldnt see me (she would be at home less, farther away from me). She is stressed out of her mind, way too much for any 11 year old to be. She breaks down over the smallest things because her internal dam is just full of stress and sadness.
My grandmother doesnt feed her real food. Only microwave meals and all of the food in her kitchen is rotten or expired.
After my grandmother broke her leg, she became her personal maid. She doesn’t get a free moment just to be a kid. My grandma constantly puts her down, calls her ugly (and lies about it) and lets her (pedo) son(s) inside the same house that my sister lives in. i know they are pedos because I have been sexually abused by them and so has my oldest sister, my second youngest sister, and my mom.
Im not sure if this still holds true, but my grandmother has been physically violent before. When my second youngest sister was 5, our grandmother (who is 5'10 and, at that time, heavily obese) sat on top of her, with my sister laying face down on the floor and wouldnt get up. I tried to get her off of her, and she literally tossed me out of the room and locked the door. She also pushed my heavily pregnant mother down the stairs.
Her son(50s) RECENTLY came into her house drunk, and asked my sister how old she was, and WHERE she sleeps. I was there for this and all of the events I just described, and it was horrifying.
And whats worse is that my grandmother claims that my definition of ‘abuse’ is different than hers, and so therefore it was not abuse. I fear for my youngest sister’s mental, physical and emotional health.
When my sister cried to our grandmother about this stress she replied “you dont know what stress is” or “did (OP) tell you to say that?” the only way im able to talk to my sister is through snapchat, which my grandmother doesnt know she has access to. Im heartbroken for her and my grandmother will not listen to reason.
So, I'm considering suing her for custody of my sister but I don't know where to start. I believe that she is in a neglectful and harmful environment and my grandmother and her children ruined all of my siblings, including myself. We all have heavy trauma from the abuse she and her sons inflicted upon us.
My grandmother is way more financially stable than I, and even just considering suing for custody is a few months out until I can get a bigger apartment. I am 95% sure my sister would choose to live with me if given the opportunity.
The family i have made for myself, away from my grandmothers family, is a bit unconventional and im worried with the heavy religious bias in my area, that it would become an issue. It consists of my boyfriend and I and my sister and her boyfriend.
I am willing to do everything necessary to become a fit parent in the eyes of the law, like getting married, having two cars, etc but I need to know if this is even possible. At the very least, I want to get visitation rights, but i dont know where I stand in relation to rights to her, since im her half sister, and not her parent.
I would appreciate any advice, as im a bit lost on what to do and I can't stand by while my grandmother ruins another life. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

2023.06.10 22:04 CoffeeWelder A cautionary tail about hiking.
This happened a year ago. My gf and I are seasoned campers/hikers. We went to one of our favorite remote places in an area of Appalachian Mountains. As we were coming to one of our regular spots, we came up against 3 hunters. They did not look so friendly. They were being passive aggressive and warned us that “we just might get shot bc we aren’t wearing orange. We just might look like dear to someone”. At this moment something isn’t right. But I say(not the best thing) “well, you might be to stupid to be hunting if you think we look like dear”. They did not change there stand-offish/aggressive posture(with rifles in hand). As I had my hand on a revolver in my pocket, my gf tried to break the tension with mentioning that we forgot to put on our orange hats in our back packs(don’t really have). Then we part ways. I’m trying to tell my gf that something is up with those guys. She keeps blowing it off. We get to our spot 20mins later. Right around 45mins to sundown. I am chopping wood while she is working on food/other things. The hatchet breaks/ricochets, hits me in the wrist and cuts some tendons. She noticed something and laughs “did u cut your hand off lol(not knowing). For a second, everything ran through my head. I know the cut was serious. But the first thing I thought of were those hunters. I just said “we got to go”. She started packing quickly as she saw my wrist. We were packed and put the fire out. With my wrist wrapped up, we walked quickly back to the main trail. I stopped and look behind us down the main trail, to what was a vary long road like trail going up the side of a mountain. Near the end(300~yards) were the trail curved. Those hunters were sitting over there. They could see our fire through the trees. I have no doubt in my heart they were watching us and waiting for it to get dark. My gf did not notice and I never said anything. All I could think about was something bad happened so something worse did not. Took 1.5hrs to get to the truck and 2hrs to get to a hospital. After getting surgery in my hometown, I made a full recovery. I will never be convinced that it was all coincidental.

2023.06.10 22:04 SortOfHauntedPeach Food
Okay I finally ate- I got two slices of pretzel pizza. It's so freaking good. We had to get meds. Then we had to go to Walmart and the kid bought me an Ursula pride tank top and we got a huge bag of cat food and he got a bunch of books and a Stray Kids cd. Then we had to get bleach from Sally because he wants green hair for Melanie Martinez. I'm going to bleach my white streak and do it ultra purple. Then he got a milkshake and we got pizza and headed home. It was a lot but it reminded me of when my mom and I would go out to lunch together and it was really nice in an almost painful but more wistful (?) way. My son looks adorable and feels better so that's a win.
I have an undercut and a textured long bang area. It looks really cute. Sometimes I'll get my hair cut and not like it but I really like this one. The thick eyebrows really look nice and my skin is translucent almost with a nice light pink blush. Lose more weight, yeah, but I'm looking alright.
Anyway. My buspar was raised to 30 twice a day so I'm letting that kick in and my Lyrica. I'll wait to take a muscle relaxer until bed because it might stop the PTSD attacks in my sleep and they make me drowsy anyway.
But yeah. I feel really good!
