Source: Sovereign citizen Dave Oneeglio starts charging for website membership Sovereign citizens are up in arms after a decision by prominent conspiracy theorist Dave Oneeglio to start charging for access to his radical beliefs. February 2, 2023 Sovereign citizens in one of the movement’s most popular Aussie chatrooms are up in arms over a decision by their de facto leader Dave Oneeglio to begin charging $20 per month for access to his conspiracy theorist website. Oneeglio, who runs the chat under his username Dave Oneegs, announced he would be adding a monthly payment option for access to his website, supposedly to make his radical conspiracy beliefs more accessible — except that it is significantly more expensive than paying annually upfront. Oneeglio is frequently spotted online peddling radical and, at worst, dangerous anti-government conspiracies that fall under the sovereign citizen umbrella. His most recent move, though, has garnered backlash even from within the community. Followers slammed the decision to grant access to Oneeglio’s website for $20 per month — $239 per year — as opposed to the currently available $192 annual payment. “Dave, read the room, mate. The market sets the price for what a product or service is worth, regardless of what you believe it’s worth. And your audience is telling you that you are overpriced,” one user, Tash, wrote. “No point getting offended and defensive by that and making people feel like s**t. You will NEVER win people over that way.” “You’ve completely lost the plot if you think that people are going to pay more than their streaming service subscription that they can turn on 24/7 for something that comes out on Tuesday’s (sic) and Thursdays,” said another user, Fox Hunter. “I’ve supported Dave since the beginning but tbh (to be honest) I feel like he’s talking down to me and attacking me because I can’t afford to sign up to his website. It’s pretty tone deaf to tell people what they can and can’t afford. I’m on a disability pension so there no way (sic) I can afford $97. And I don’t think that’s my fault but Dave makes me feel like it is,” wrote a third. The critics earned the vitriol of Oneeglio, who insisted even a “homeless person” could front up the cash. “I guarantee a homeless person can find $5 a week. I guarantee it! We have a media that has decimated this country … and I’m doing something about it,” he wrote in one rambling response. “The team and I and everyone who is supporting are tired of complaining and we are actually going to DO. something about it. If you can’t find $5, that’s fine … It’s not because you don’t have it … It’s because you don’t see the value yet in how important this is and u will spend the $5 elsewhere.” He later doubled down, posting a videoed rant in which he accused the chat’s members of “shooting (him) in the back”. “Why don’t you actually put yourselves in our shoes just for two seconds and think, wow, these people have been going non-stop for three years now. They might actually give a s**t about this country, they might actually be doing their best that they can,” Oneeglio said in a vlog from his car. “We don’t plan on stopping but just stop trying to shoot us down when we’re fighting for you. Had enough of it. Over and out.” Inside the conspiracy beliefs The term “sovereign citizen” encompasses a broad range of ideologies, including anti-vaccine, anti-mainstream media and anarchist beliefs, but at its core refers to an insistence that the government and its actors are illegitimate. The movement shot into public consciousness late last year after three of its members, the murderous Train trio, shot dead two Queensland police officers and a bystander. One of the Train brothers was a member of Oneeglio’s own Telegram channel, and had referenced the conspiracy leader in his writings. It is not suggested that any member of the group, including Oneeglio, was involved in the events at Wieambilla. Unsettling screenshots of conversations being had inside the chat showed participants sympathising with the Train trio and even praising the cold-blooded killing of Constable McCrow and Constable Arnold. One of the most disturbing comments came under a post from Oneeglio himself asking how his followers were “feeling”, after sharing a photo with the phrase: “When war is declared, truth is the first casualty.” “How is everyone feeling? I feel flat and unsettled. Something feels very ‘wrong’ on some level today. Please share a comment below,” he wrote under the image. One follower replied to this comment, urging others in the group to “take up arms” just like Nathaniel Train and his brother had. “It feels very strange today. One of our fold has finally carried out their promise to make a difference. It will make a difference,” they wrote. “They can’t keep suppressing us forever. Time to take up arms like our brother Nate.” In other posts, commenters referred to one of the Train brothers as a “modern day Ned Kelly”, warning the “same thing might happen” if police officers tried to come onto their land. Oneeglio has created a career for himself off the back of the movement and his Telegram channel, which has more than 61,000 subscribers. The self-purported “influencer” has even started a merchandise range. One shirt has the lines “Pharma funds the media, the media funds your fears. Your fears fund your disease, your disease funds pharma,” while another design states, “no weapon formed against me shall prosper.” In recent months, he has been linked to numerous public clashes between sovereign citizens and police. Oneeglio is currently facing a legal fight over allegations he used money raised for northern NSW flood victims inappropriately. Oneeglio, also a friend of controversial chef Pete Evans, has been charged with one count each of failing to comply with lawful requirements, conducting unlawful appeals for support and person assisting an appeal converting money for own use or failing to properly account for the money concerning the flooding in Lismore. The Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) recently told News Corp that charges against the 48-year-old had been filed following an investigation. Magistrate Colin Strofield adjourned the matter to March 17 to set a trial date if required. submitted by Dorothy2023 to amibeingdetained [link] [comments] |
2023.06.05 08:02 Matoko2 AITA getting death threats from FB market place
I was looking to by some swich games, i can a cross a listing to good to be true games for only£4 each. By this time we have started exchanging details for shipping and payment. she insisted on bank transfer which is not preferred. So I ask to see all the games with a piece of paper and the date and time as all the games look like screen shots of other listings I saw. The seller then sends me a photo of her "husbands" driving licence to Prove legit. By this point I have reached out to other sellers of the listing that are very light profiles that sell games of all conels as they own a game shop and use FB market place for selling games online. So is say to the seller that I am not buying the games as I don't trust this as it loocks like a scam to me. The seller then sends me a screenshot of Google maps saying she and her husband are coming to kill me if I don't by games by tommorow 2pm.

2023.06.05 07:51 HeadOfSpectre Blue Lagoon
I knew that Ray liked to party, but this was a little too much. He was on the dance floor with a spaced out look in his eye, dancing like he’d just stepped out of some 1980s music video. The people around him didn’t seem all that put off, but they were probably almost as high as he was.
Almost, being the operative word in that sentence.
Look, I get it. I like to
party too from time to time. But you gotta be smart about it. You gotta know where your limit is, and I don’t think that Ray knew his limit.
***
I’d never actually been to this part of town before, but hey, there’s a first time for everything, right? Ray and I had just closed the deal of our careers and figured a little celebration was in order. I’d initially figured we’d just have a few drinks and maybe get laid. But when he broke out the molly, I wasn’t going to say no and the next hour or so after that was fucking
killer.
Then we’d ran into that dude at the bar.
This guy was… well, he looked like he was
on drugs, not like he sold them. He had messy hair, a grin that said: ‘
I just farted!’ and I’m pretty sure he was covered in glitter. He was wearing a hot pink suit, with a neon blue bowtie, on top of a regular black tie. Yeah. Two ties.
Anyways, he must’ve realized that we were also high off our asses, because as we took a seat at the bar he came right over to us, wearing that
‘I just farted’ grin and chatted us up.
“Hey man! You two having a good time tonight?”
“Fuck yeah we are!” Ray replied, “Fucking love your getup, man!”
“Aww hell yeah, brother!”
The Glitter Man went in for a high five and Ray reciprocated.
“You having a party?” He asked.
“Yeah, just closed a fuckin
BIG ASS client. Fuck yeah, we’re having a party!”
“Oh man, then I’ve got just the thing for you! Check this shit out.”
Glitter Man reached into his suit jacket and took out a gunmetal gray cigarette case. He opened it, showing us a collection of small neon blue pills inside.
“These right here? These are gonna kick your night up a whole other notch,” He promised. “You want in?”
Ray stared down at the pills, and I could see his eyes widening like a kid who'd just walked into a candy shop.
“Fuck yeah, I want in!” He said with barely a moment of hesitation, and that is when I stepped in.
“Wait up, the fuck are these?” I asked. “Molly?”
“Nah, man. It’s a new thing. Been calling it Blue Lagoon. Trust me, this is the shit! One pill… and you’re never gonna forget tonight. I got a buddy who swears this shit lets him see into other worlds.”
“How much?” Ray asked.
“Tell you what, man. I’ll hook you both up for ten bucks a pop!”
Ray started reaching for his wallet, but I stopped him.
“Dude, we don’t even know what this shit is!” I said.
“C’mon, loosen your asshole and live a little, Geoff!” Ray replied, pulling away from me. “Sorry about my friend, man. He just needs a few more drinks.”
“Hey, no worries!”
Ray handed over twenty bucks and Glitter Man dropped two pills into his hand, before taking off.
“See you around!” He said, and that was it.
“You in this with me?” Ray asked, offering me one of the pills.
I didn’t answer, so he started making a ticking clock noise.
“Times almost up…” He sang, “You gonna get the stick out of your ass and party like a man, or are you gonna pussy out?”
I took the pill, sighed and put it in my mouth.
“ATTA FUCKIN’ BOY!” Ray cried and slapped me on the back, before taking his own pill. “Thought for sure you were gonna go all fuckin’ soft on me!” He teased, “Go full Mr. Mackey from South Park. ‘
Drugs are bad, M’kay!’” He laughed at his own bad impression of the show.
He turned back to the bar, reaching into his pocket for a pack of cigarettes.
“Hey, my buddy and I are gonna have two dry martinis!” He said, “Dirty as you can fuckin’ make them!”
He popped one of the cigarettes into his mouth, and that was around the time I noticed that the world around me seemed… off…
I blinked slowly, looking around at the people in the bar. I could’ve sworn that I saw flowers blooming on their skin, but it was hard to get a look at them. They only ever seemed to be there when I wasn’t looking directly at them. From the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something moving behind the dance floor. Some tall, wandering shadow although I couldn’t get a good look at it either. I think that it might have looked at me, with eyes on stalks like some kind of slug. But I couldn’t be sure. It disappeared completely when I tried to look at it head on.
I looked over at the bartender, a relatively plain looking brunette. She glanced at me briefly as she shook our martinis, and I swore that I could see flowers growing out of her hair, wreathing her head in vibrant colors that were impossible to really describe.
I looked over at Ray, and he was staring at her too. I’m not sure what he was seeing, but whatever it was, it had to be beautiful! The man beside me had roses growing out of his eyes and whenever he laughed, I heard a chorus of angels singing. He was holding a giant chameleon that he kept petting, and it was looking at me.
“Think this is DMT?” It asked.
“Who the hell knows?” Said the man. His head was mostly flowers now.
Ray absentmindely handed me my martini, and I took a sip. It tasted like heaven. It tasted like a fresh donut, right out of the oven with the glaze still melty and warm. I wanted to cry from just how beautiful it was!
A hazy mist swirled around me, lifting me up to new levels of paradise. As Ray and I went to the dance floor to join the party, I felt at one with the universe.
A beautiful girl with flawless dark skin danced with me, as we danced I realized that my place in the cosmos was here! Right here!
And then I saw it, really, truly saw it. The grand tapestry of all things. It was right there in her eyes. Right there for me to see. An expanse of events, all seemingly unconnected save for the fact that they contributed to some great, glorious final outcome. A perfect future for all mankind, for all that existed beyond mankind. Hundreds of lives, thousands, millions, billions… perhaps even an infinite amount, all moving parts in an enormous machine, working toward the completion of a single function. Pawns in a grand game whose outcome had been determined outside of time. Every little piece would in it’s own way, fall into place exactly when it needed to, at the moment it needed to, each one carefully guided by a grand design, that operated exclusively through others. An outside force, that pushed them to trigger the events that would lead to the favorable outcome, and arguably, the only outcome, but there really was no big picture to be seen. The end result was something far less finite. It was a state of being. A higher state. A type of perfection that went beyond perfection. Oh, the knowledge of it burned so bright in my skull!
I hugged the girl that I was dancing with and we kissed. She told me that she was proud of me before promptly dissolving into a cloud of butterflies, and as I watched them fly away I laughed, knowing that they too were part of the fabric of the universe! I admired the crowd dancing around me, basking in their radiance. They seemed to go on forever and I could see every aspect of their lives in each of them. Their hopes, their dreams, their aspirations. I loved each of them, and looked into each of their souls, looking at what the greatest possible version of them might be.
From the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow. The same one from before, possibly? I looked at it, watching as it surveyed the crowd. Despite its darkness, I could see its shiny white teeth and beady eyes. The eyes shifted to me for a moment where they lingered, but the shadow didn’t move.
Water flowed around me, distracting me from the shadow again. Fish swam past me, daring me to chase them and I obliged. They promised to take me to a mermaid and teach me how to live in the sea with them. Then I promptly threw up all over some poor girl who was just trying to dance, and after I apologized to her, I tried to explain to the fish that I just needed to sit down for a moment, but by then they’d already turned into seagulls and were just casually shitting on the dude they were sitting on.
I stumbled over to one of the booths and collapsed into it, trying to catch my breath.
“Would you like some cheese, sir.” Asked the sentient platter of cheese on the table underneath me.
“My name is Brie!” Said the brie.
I stared down at the platter, before picking up a cube of cheddar and trying to eat it. For some reason it tasted like a napkin. This was because it was actually a napkin.
My skin felt cold, my hands were shaking a little. The music was way too loud and my mouth was dry.
I looked up.
There were no fantastical creatures around. No fish, no seagulls, no flowers, no talking cheese. Just a normal nightclub.
My head was kind of throbbing.
I took out my phone to look at it. It’d been about an hour since Ray and I had gotten our martinis. Had time really passed that quickly?
Speaking of which, where was Ray?
I looked around for him, before finding him still on the dance floor, dancing like a goddamn maniac. He didn’t seem to be coming down the way that I was. Maybe I’d puked some of the drug up when I’d vomited and it had cut my trip short?
Speaking of which, what the hell was that? DMT or something? I was pretty sure that I’d just hallucinated everything that had just happened. Those had to be hallucinations, right?
I shook my head, before trying to ground myself in the moment. I still felt dizzy and weak. I ended up going to the bar to just get some water before finding another seat where I could rest for a while while Ray partied his little heart out… and after another hour, I started thinking that maybe something was wrong with him.
I noticed that he only seemed to take a break once, and when he did, it was only to head to the bar to get another hard drink. While he was there, I noticed him slipping a familiar gunmetal gray cigarette case out of his pocket. He downed some pills from inside and chased them with a generous sip of whatever he’d gotten. Then, swaying like an idiot he put the cigarette case back in his pocket and lumbered back to the party.
That
idiot.
He must’ve bought the whole fucking case off of that weird guy we’d seen earlier! It was one thing to try some weird new drug like a dumbass, but this? This was insane!
I considered going up to him to ask him just what the hell he’d been thinking, but given how out of it he probably was, I knew there wouldn’t be much point to it.
So I resolved to just watch him, and make sure he got home safely like a responsible friend/co-worker. I didn’t really want a repeat of the Vancouver Incident where I’d had to drag him crying like a baby out of a convenience store at 4 AM because they were out of gummy bears. (He’d promised me that it would never happen again and up until now I’d held him to that.)
I guess if nothing else, Ray didn’t seem to be violent or anything while he was high. The bouncers in this place looked pretty tough, and I really didn’t want to have to watch them beat the crap out of him. And it wasn’t until around 2 AM when the party was dying down that I started to notice Ray acting strange. Well… strange compared to the way he’d been acting for most of the night.
He’d seemed more unstable on his feet and seemed less interested in dancing now. He kept looking around frantically, and I saw him take out the cigarette case to look for more pills.
I figured that this was probably the time to get up and stop him.
“Hey, hey… relax, man,” I said, coming up to him and stopping him from taking more of those pills. “Take it easy, alright?”
He looked over at me with wide, bloodshot eyes as I spoke to him.
“Geoff?” He asked in a small voice.
“Yeah, it’s me. Put the pills down. How many of those have you had?”
I took the case from him and looked inside, only to feel my stomach sink a little when I realized that it was empty.
It suddenly occurred to me that I probably should have been watching him closer, to make sure he didn’t take
all of the goddamn mystery pills, and I quietly kicked myself for not thinking about that sooner!
“Well shit… you feeling okay, bud?” I asked.
“Fraid…” He slurred, “Universe is… wrong…”
His eyes suddenly widened, filled with a horror that I’m not sure I could properly describe.
“THERE!”
He pointed at something over my shoulder and I looked.
Behind me, sat the unknowable terror that lurks in all places where something ceases to exist and only absence remains…
absolutely fucking nothing.
“Maybe we need to get you to a hospital…” I murmured.
“No hospital! N-no hospital!” He said, “Please… Geoff… j-just get me somewhere safe! Please!”
Yeah, I was definitely getting him to a hospital. I’d already made enough dumb decisions for the night. I didn’t really feel up to making one more.
“Alright, let’s get you someplace safe,” I said with a sigh. I took out my phone to call us a cab. “C’mon, Ray.”
He grabbed at me like a scared child as I led him out of the club, jumping at every shadow that we saw on the way out.
***
“So what exactly did he take?” The nurse asked me. She had a sort of deadpan, matter of fact tone and barely even looked at me, while Ray screamed bloody murder in the next room. I gotta say, I wasn’t exactly beaming with pride as I confessed to the nurse that Ray and I had partied in defiance of every 1980s anti-drug PSA we’d grown up with. But it needed to be done.
“I think the guy called it Blue Lagoon,” I said. “I don’t know how many he had, but it was a lot.”
“Blue Lagoon?” The nurse asked, “That’s a new one.”
“Yeah I’ve never heard of it either. I took one of the pills too,” I said. “I was seeing shit for about an hour before I came down. Like, mermaids, talking cheese, flowers… that kinda stuff.”
“So it’s a hallucinogen?” She asked.
“Yeah, I’ve never done DMT but I was thinking it might be similar to that? I don’t know.”
“We’ll take some bloodwork shortly, see if we can’t figure out some more,” She said before leaving me.
I quietly went back to Ray’s room, and watched as he fought against the restraints that bound him to the bed.
His face was bright red from all the screaming and he was sobbing like a little kid as he struggled.
“IT’S COMING! IT’S COMING FOR ME!”
I didn’t bother trying to talk to him. He was still pretty out of it, and he’d been screaming about something coming for him.
“GEOFF!” He sobbed, looking at me. I saw him trying to reach for my hand, “Don’t… don’t leave.. Don’t let him take me, Geoff… please… you gotta let me out of here, YOU GOTTA LET ME RUN!”
“Relax, you’re gonna be okay,” I promised. “I’m gonna stay right here with you.”
The words didn’t seem to do much for him. He just kept fighting and sobbing.
At around 4 in the morning, I finally slept. It was in a chair in one of the waiting rooms, since Ray was still screaming too loud for me to sleep in his room, but I slept. I figured that when I woke up, Ray would have sobered up a bit and we could both go home.
I was wrong.
When I woke up, there was a police officer standing over me, gently shaking my shoulder. My first thought was that the nurse we’d talked to had reported us for taking drugs (which I thought they weren’t supposed to do!) but no.
He just wanted to ask me a few questions about Ray.
My memories of talking to the police are hazy. I don’t entirely remember how the conversation went, but I knew that they’d asked me about where we’d been that night. They asked me if Ray had gotten into any fights, or if I knew anyone who might want to kill him. It wasn’t until around halfway through the conversation that I figured out that Ray was dead.
I never saw the body. It was covered when they wheeled it out of the room.
But I saw the blood.
Good God… all that fucking blood… more than I thought could fit in a person.
From what I heard, none of the nurses saw what happened. At some point, the screaming had just stopped and when they’d come in to check his vitals again, they were greeted by the gory mess that used to be Ray.
After the police talked to me, I didn’t hear a lot about the investigation into Ray’s death. To my knowledge, they never identified any suspects. Hell, I don’t even think they’re entirely sure about what killed him. I heard somebody say it could have been some kind of animal attack, but I think that got shot down pretty quickly, since where the fuck would the animal have come from?
The police cleared me as a suspect in the case pretty quickly, since I’d been asleep when it had happened and there were plenty of witnesses who could confirm I was in the waiting room, passed out.
I imagine that they talked to some people at the nightclub we’d been at too, but I don’t think anything ever came of that. I’d been watching Ray for most of the night. He’d been dancing and having a good time. The only time I hadn’t been keeping an eye on him was when I was hallucinating, and I highly doubt he picked a fight with someone who’d be willing to break into a hospital to murder him during the hour that I was indisposed! There was literally no logical reason he should have died the way he did! There wasn’t a single person I could possibly think of who could have killed him!
Person being the operative word here.
Before he died, Ray had been screaming about something coming for him. My memories of the hallucinations I had after I took that pill are a little hazy, but I remember the shadowy thing I glimpsed among the crowd a few times.
I remember the pitch that the guy who’d sold us the pills had made:
‘I got a buddy who swears this shit lets him see into other worlds!’
Call me crazy… but I’m wondering just how true that pitch was. Maybe not everything we saw after taking those pills was a hallucination. Maybe they let us see something… touch something… and they let that something touch us right back.
I don’t know for sure. But that’s the closest thing to an answer that I’ve got. Either way, I’ve been sober ever since that night and I think I’m going to stay that
way. submitted by

I like to party too from time to time.
But when he broke out the molly, I wasn’t going to say no and the next hour or so after that was fucking killer.
Then we’d ran into that dude at the bar.
This guy was… well, he looked like he was on drugs, not like he sold them. He had messy hair, a grin that said: ‘I just farted!’ and I’m pretty sure he was covered in glitter. He was wearing a hot pink suit, with a neon blue bowtie, on top of a regular black tie. Yeah. Two ties.
Anyways, he must’ve realized that we were also high off our asses, because as we took a seat at the bar he came right over to us, wearing that ‘I just farted’ grin and chatted us up.
“Hey man! You two having a good time tonight?”
“Fuck yeah we are!” Ray replied, “Fucking love your getup, man!”
“Aww hell yeah, brother!”
The Glitter Man went in for a high five and Ray reciprocated.
“You having a party?” He asked.
“Yeah, just closed a fuckin BIG ASS client.
‘Drugs are bad, M’kay!’” He laughed at his own bad impression of the show.

Either way, I’ve been sober ever since that night and I think I’m going to stay that way.

2023.06.05 07:23 daisyyellow21 Help me decide!
| I already purchased the 2nd dress (ivory with the flowers all over) a year ago. After meeting with a seamstress and discovering how much I needed to alter, I got worried and went back out shopping (i know thats a no no but I did) and I fell in love with the dress in the first photo. Never imagined I would be wearing a champagne colored dress but I love the style. Need some advice on if I should stick with the dress I own, or sell it and get the new one submitted by daisyyellow21 to weddingdress [link] [comments] |

Four other official shops that work in conversions of media (they mentioned VHS on their sites) did not reply to my emails...nothing, not even a no. I have never struck this before with so many companies ghosting, my tapes sent them running for the hills haha
I contacted a girl through FB messenger as I saw she had asked a question about getting her VHS tapes converted. It was months ago so I asked her what company she chose and was she happy with the results...
I sent her photos of my tapes and told her that I had recently been declined help. I said "One guy told me he didn't want my mould on his equipment"😅
She blocked me🤣 I didn't realise that kind of sounded rude like a joke...It wasn't meant to be! That was literally was what he to me in the email LMAO
I couldn't even get help from someone else who wanted to save her VHS home movies
Mine are bad but I have seen worse while researching
I think I have finally found help, I will let you know
Here are my scary tapes
https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/ They are extremely important, Childhood birthdays and a wedding that features family that are no longer here. I said this in my emails which makes their silence sting a little to be honest. I even asked if they could refer me to someone else and still nada
Has anyone here restored tapes? How were your results with the film? Was there still viewable footage after the cleaning? Thank you

2023.06.05 06:19 veronella 4 Days in LA (bb one-bagger's maiden voyage!)
| trusty ol' Timbuk2 (circa 2010!) Flight Outfit / Day 1: Urban Exploration Day 3: Beach-Hopping Tried posting this a few min ago, and all the text in the post disappeared. 😭 Re-posting now, minus the full packing list because I just can't. 🫠 This was my first true one-bagging excursion as a historical over-packer, and I'm really proud of myself! I've been really inspired by everyone's posts here for the last few months that I've been lurking. It was really fun to finally put all the tips I've gleaned into action. The trip was just an extended weekend to visit my friend in Los Angeles. We were planning a variety of activities...from sailing, to casual beach walks, to dining at nice restaurants. This made for a slightly challenging pack into the single "personal item" allotted for my flight. I spent 2 evenings prior to my trip trying on different combinations of clothing to sort out which pieces to bring for optimal interchangeability. 😅 I used my old standby Timbuk2 laptop commuter bag that I've had for over a decade. It fit the airline's size requirements and worked out nicely! It was great to be able to use something I already had for my main bag. Also brought 2 small bags-- this Wilderdog utility pack for my in-flight essentials and this Envelope Convertible Cross-body bag from Portland Leather. I was ready to stuff the hip pack into my backpack if needed, but didn't get any flack for it when I boarded. Some of you might remember this post I made about trying to find my unicorn hip-pack/cross-body bag. I ended up finding this Wilderdog pack after making that post, and am pretty happy with it! Was also glad to have the nicer purse with me, which helped to dress up some of my more casual clothing. It's super slim, so it easily slipped into the laptop sleeve of my backpack when it was empty. Kudos to the commenter who recommended it on someone else's post in this sub! (I tried to find the original thread I stumbled upon, but couldn't, for the life of me!) The outfits in the photos were my 2 main "base" outfits. I had a couple of other sleeveless/short-sleeved shirts to trade out with the pants, and then depending on the activity/temperature, would switch between the cardigan & yellow fleece pullover and/or add the dark green jacket, and switched between the Taos sneakers & Birkenstocks. I also had a nice dark blue scarf (forgot to stage it in the pic) that I could use for warmth & dressing up my outfits as needed. The leggings doubled as pajamas along w/whatever shirt I'd worn that day. I didn't end up wearing every pair of socks I brought, but it wasn't a big deal to have an extra pair or two. All in all, I think the clothes I brought worked out! I did end up buying another pair of shoes at a surf shop on Day 3 while we were out beach-hopping, because I'd started getting blisters from my Birks (and had left my sneakers back at my friend's place to dry out after they got wet sailing the day before). Not the cheapest purchase on-the-fly, but I'm glad I was able to find a pair of shoes that were actually comfortable (as opposed to cheap flip-flops), and ones that I'll get a decent amount of wear out of (unlike cheap flip-flops). These are the shoes I bought: Sanuk Pair O Dice Slip-ons in washed black Sooooo glad I went with these Dovetail pants instead of my "comfy" jeans. Jeans would NOT have been up to the maneuvering I needed to do on the tiny boat we sailed on! 😅 Lots of squatting and kneeling and such. The one drawback to these pants, though, was that they took a very long time to dry after getting the cuffs wet. I will say though that they made for great travel pants! So many pockets, and a very comfy elastic/drawstring waist. But as much as they felt like sweatpants, they looked nice enough to go straight from the airport to lunch at a renowned pizzeria! 😁 The one thing I absolutely did NOT need to pack was the book I brought lol. Since it was a social-focused trip, the only opportunities I had to read were on the flight or while waiting at the airport. But the flights were short (just over 2 hours in each direction), and I'm much more inclined to listen to music and look out the window when I fly than read or watch something. So I think I'll leave my books at home for future trips, unless I know I'll be having substantial solo leisure time at my destination. Packing for this trip helped me realize that 1) I can do it! I can actually do it 🥲 2) I need to purge my closet of clothes that no longer fit me (probably the most challenging part of this whole experience) 3) As much as I rely on "how I'm feeling in the moment" to dress at home, it will be FINE while traveling to wear a predetermined outfit that I don't feel 100% cute in. The whole point of traveling is the experiences I'm having, not how cute I think I look while having them. submitted by veronella to HerOneBag [link] [comments] |

2023.06.05 05:51 CaptainPsyko Starting mostly from scratch; NY Apartment assistance needed. Help especially needed with Rugs/Color ideas.
https://i.imgur.com/3R2KgqV.jpg Let’s start with the floor plan; I sketched a few furniture pieces on there just as a fit check. I’m moving into a new place and moving out of a familial living situation where I’m taking furniture with me but have… significant holes in my set. I have three incredible couches (see here:
https://imgur.com/a/kKXxGRj/ ) the dark leather one is going on the office space where you’ll also see I marked off space for my desk and (white) 4x4 kallax full of books. The lighter leather ones are a three and 2 seat pair; I’m also taking that gorgeous marble end table between them and - not pictured because it’s in storage, a big 5 ft triangular coffee table made of the same stone.
Here’s a few photos of the space itself,
https://imgur.com/a/tKk2vJA/ - the first two are of the living room, as seen from both directions, which should give you an idea of how the goofy pillaarch impedes things and kind of darkens the room. Can’t repaint, but could probably get in there to do peel and stick wallpaper or something before the move if it would make a dramatic difference.
Things I need help with:
I need a rug that will tie that living room together with the horrible landlord beige wall paint. I also need a few other rugs for other rooms. I have no idea how to pick rugs.
Living room also needs a good TV cabinet/sideboard of some sort, but i think I have a pretty good eye for my taste for that stuff and if I can figure out the rest of the room, I figure I’ll know what I want for that.
I need a dining room table and chairs. More importantly, I need help figuring out where to best put said dining table and chairs, and then what to do with the rest of the mostly open foyeend of the living room space that I have kind of opened up there. I think I probably want to set up a little bar station/coffee station outside of the kitchen at a minimum, because the kitchen is tiny and lacks power outlets for my coffee stuff.
I need more storage in the bedroom because it doesn’t have a closet. Is a wardrobe the right call here? If so, are the various IKEA closet units any good? I like the organization/modularity options on a lot of them, but haven’t really shopped that piece elsewhere.
I’m also curious if my bedroom can be rearranged from that current setup to something more functional when adding a closet of some sort. The placement on my sketch is p arbitrary.
I don’t move into this new space for a few weeks, so nothing is down yet and I have time to get this plan right.
My own furniture tastes tend vaguely towards MCM, but not exclusively so. I like natural wood tones and matte color palettes. In terms of art that will be hanging, I have a smattering of inherited Japanese woodblock stuff, some colorful cartoony paintings done by a relative, and probably need a few more pieces. I’m largely starting over here though so I am interested in letting my other choices set the decor tone to some extent.
Help me.

2023.06.05 05:27 itsBigEasy Let's call this rock bottom
I have had a day now to reflect on the last month. A major relapse on my over a decade long battle with compulsive gambling. Now at 30 and with a higher salary the total monetary value of the losses in this episode is much higher. But I can end it today in a position that I can recover from.
There have been many times over the last 10 years where I have gambled away every dollar I had and had to live off a shoestring or cash load or pawn shop to survive to the next paycheck. There was even an episode of stealing from my parents. All though my losses at the time were in the hundreds or the low thousands it was everything I had. I can't think of a time back then where I had 10k to my name.
In the last couple of years I got a much better job than I had back then and I nicer salary. More importantly I have not been gambling. I managed to save 80k. My problem is sports betting. In the last month I wiped away half of that. That represented my 15k in savings 10k in spending account. And a further 15k in my credit card. With my next paycheck and selling my 10k crypto portfolio I was able to payoff credit immediately. That just left my 40k stocks portfolio which luckily for me would take time to sell and has been enough of an inconvenience for me to need to stop and think about what I was doing.
After the first 2 weeks I was 20k down and just could not let it go. I had to make it back. And here we are now. Down another 20. My bet size for sports bets and multis is much larger now than it had been in the past. I was placing a lot of 2 or 3k bets with roughly 3x payoffs and of course missing. One betting agencys responsible gambling division even contacted me and I agreed to letting them block my account. I managed to lost another roughly 4k through other agencies since then but now I have closed all those accounts.
It's pretty fucked and very disappointing. You all know the feeling. I was vaguely looking into getting into housing market as my net worth approached 100k. That is now set back at least 6 months. On top of the money my health and performance at work took a huge hit. For me compulsive gambling and binge eating go together plus poor sleep and lack of interest in my job.
Anyway I know the only way out now is to completely stop and let go of the money I lost. I am very grateful not to be in debt and to have money for rent and food. I have a new girlfriend and it's early enough that she did not know my financial situation. So no one to explain a missing 40k to.
I only hope it is not a black mark that will mean I won't be able to get a home loan In the future.
In these next few months I am going to put my head down and focus on saving and getting in awesome physical shape. Plus try to focus on learning some new skills outside of work that will help me with my career and something else to hopefully be passionate in.
Something is out of wack with my outlook on life when I can free fall like this so willingly. Putting all my hard work at stake. Why do I act like I have nothing to lose. Like my future is not worth building towards. Or that it's something worth risking. Good things take time and effort. Gambling is a quick, cheep, empty and a sham shortcut.
This is day one for me and I plan to use this post as a diary for weekly updates to keep me motivated and focused.
Tldr: I lost half my 80k life savings in a month at 30. Thankfully no debt or dependents and as much as this sucks I am going to turn my life around starting now.

2023.06.05 03:40 DisciplineJaded Who makes custom butane lighters / torches?
Does anyone know of an online shop where I can send someone an object or photo to have a custom butane lighter / torch designed around it? My use case is that I am trying to have a butane lighter in the shape of religious candles that are in a weave pattern to light for the holidays and have a capacity at about the same time it would take for the candle to burn all the way.
I don't need the flame to be intense, just mimic a cheapo bic lighter flame. Reason for this over a regular candle is simply logistics. No wax to clean up, longer use life, and economical fuel source. I'm also fine to grab the materials myself and try to DIY it.
