2023.06.08 20:58 SunwindPC I'm genuinely surprised how well Prey runs on the Steam Deck. I'm playing on Ultra, but even on the lowest settings this game looks amazing, I just hope I don't break my Deck over it
2023.06.08 20:56 AdmrlHorizon Just got a steam deck 1tb
So misleading title. But also not. Today I purchased a steam deck that had been fitted with a decent 1tb ssd for 500 euro. The device was 2 months old! I think it was a steal but lmk, every other offer second hand was 400-500 for a 256 model (literally no idea why when u can easily buy em new. That’s why I didn’t buy one just yet till I found this offer which is almost the price of a 512 but with double storage). Super excited loaded up my first 2 games. Risk of rain 2 and remnant from the ashes. I feel I’ll like this little thing especially since I sold my pc 2 years ago and haven’t touched my steam library till today! Any tips for stuff to do? I’m already underway with decki loader and have windows dual booted for shits and giggles.
Ps: past 2 years I’ve been a console person so a switch was basically the perfect “pc” like console I could get. Ik rog ally is very interesting but I value Moders and support and Ik valve won’t let us down
Edit: I was shocked how big it was. Thought it’s smaller (not complaining). And wasn’t expected how sharp the display looks at the size

2023.06.08 20:53 BritishActionGamer Sackboy: Optimized Settings
Optimized Quality Settings:
Max Non-RT Settings as Base Ambient Occlusion:
Medium,
makes AO slightly noiser while sometimes looking stronger than High. Dynamic Shadows:
High,
looks really similar to Very High with slightly changes to shadow softness/filtering in areas. _______________________________________
Optimized Balanced Settings:
Optimized Quality Settings as Base Ambient Occlusion:
Low,
can be pretty noisy at lower resolutions/if you use TAAu. Additional Scene Lighting:
Off,
reduces the light sources used throughout the level, similar to PS4. Sackboy Fuzz:
Off,
adds a layer of fibers to Sackboy. _______________________________________
Optimized Low Settings:
Optimized Balanced Settings as Base Ambient Occlusion:
Off,
the game's prebaked lighting means it doesn't look completely flat without AO. Dynamic Shadows:
Medium,
simplifies volumetric lighting, aswell as dropping shadow draw distance and resolution slightly Enhanced Object Detail:
Off,
removes the details added to the PS5 version of the game. _______________________________________
RT Optimization:
Unless you have a high end Nvidia GPU or very high end Intel one, I recommend most users avoid RT as it's very expensive without improving visuals significantly.
RTAO is especially poor in this game, often looking similar or worse than standard AO.
While RT Shadows are only used in select scenes, as the game still uses shadow maps and prebaked lighting in most areas.
If you have the performance spare to afford RT Reflections,
they can improve visuals quite abit, just avoid the performance crippling Ultra.
_______________________________________
Performance Uplift:
31% at Optimized Quality, 39% at Optimized Balanced and 61% at Optimized Low. You can boost performance further via the use of DLSS on Nvidia cards, other vendors don't have as good of an option.
You can add temporal upsampling via INI files, but it suffers from more shimmering than other UE4 games with TAAu,
and has issues with depth of field. On Steam Deck, I recommend running at Optimized Low at Native 720p, or Optimized Balanced with 75% TAAu.
Just make sure you set the game to 1280x720 instead of 1280x800 if you are using TAAu, for some reason the upsampling has more issues at 800p despite it being letterboxed eitherway? If you want better battery life, I recommend running at Optimized Low at 75% TAAu and drop TDP to 10w. You can lower your TDP even further if you are happy with dropping your refresh rate aswell, 9w would only really need a drop to 50 or 52hz.

2023.06.08 20:43 chaz1432 Will the Game Porting Toolkit eventually allow DX12 games to run on iPhone? Like a Steam Deck.
I'm just wondering if there is a technical limitation to the game porting toolkit that stops its metal porting abilities to work on the iphone. I'd love it if the community came out with something like that.

2023.06.08 20:36 BigCaah Beelink and Emulation
Hi all, new to the world of mini PCs, and here for one reason - retro gaming emulation. I posted this over in a mini pc subreddit, figured I’d get more specific advice here.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s playing the Atari 5200, NES, SNES, N64, and then moved along to the Sony consoles. I still have a few of my old consoles, but as the hardware fails I’m looking for a way to keep the memories alive.
I’m no stranger to setting up emulators. I can generally follow directions, and spent the better part of the last couple years designing and building an arcade cabinet that runs MAME up through PS2. I figured out that playing old console games with a joystick and arcade layout doesn’t exactly provide the best experience, and the older I get the less inclined I am to stand and play a 50+ hour RPG for long periods of time. So I moved everything for consoles to a hard drive, and started to research portable solutions.
My weakness is in figuring out what hardware will run the programs well.
I had been leaning towards something like a Steam Deck, but I feel I don’t play portable enough to justify a handheld device, and I have zero interest in other pc gaming (my daily driver is a PS5). I found Retro Game Corps and his reviews/spreadsheet of mini PCs while researching solutions, and was surprised to see just how well some of them run console games. I’d like to be able to run PS2, GameCube and Wii at native resolutions, prioritizing frame rates over upscaling. PS3 would be great for a few RPGs and Tekken, but I’ve still got a console hooked up somewhere.
So now I’m having analysis paralysis.. I see that the Beelink SER 5 with a 5800H, 16GB of RAM, and a 500gb-1tb nvme runs anywhere between $315-$375 on Amazon. It also looks like the 6900HX processor in the GTR6 will do it better, but at over $600 I may as well buy a Steam Deck.
In your learned opinions, would it be worth waiting for prices to continue coming down on the 6900HX, or will the 5800H do fine for my purposes? Im not married to the Beelink brand, but they seem to hit a sweet spot of price and performance, and I’d prefer to purchase through Amazon.

2023.06.08 20:20 Aquib_Arko Device Recommendations to Run Shovel Knight and Celeste
TLDR: Which device I should buy if I want to play Celeste, Shovel Knight, maybe just maybe Hades and Hollow Knight, without breaking the bank. Hopefully under $250.
I want am very new to the community and I am looking to buy my first handheld. I have previously dabbled in retro emulation on Android and PC. I am looking for a device to buy where I can play retro games plus some Celeste and Hades. I don't want to pay too much to buy a steam deck or a ROG Ally or AYN Odin/Loki.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please also let me know if I should manage my expectations or increase my budget a little bit more.
Thanks!!

2023.06.08 20:02 Snowballo Is there a way to cut the hdmi signal while Steam Deck is on dock in GAMING MODE?
I know it is a dumb quesiton maybe. :P I've my deck connected to my PC monitor and I've to switch between my PC and my Deck (while in Gaming Mode). When i want to go to Desktop Mode and my Deck is connected to the Dock I usually: 1. I'm on PC doing my stuff (HDMI 1) 2. I Turn On Deck 3. Switch to Steam Deck (HDMI 2) 4. Go to Desktop Mode 5. Deck reboot in Desktop Mode and I can see stuff on the screen of the Deck 6. I usually enter my Steam Deck from my PC using Anydesk
If I want to to this process without changing HDMI source I've to unplug my HDMI cable from the dock.
Is there a way or a switch, or something else to avoid this? A button or a software or something else that makes my see my Steam Deck screen while it is connected to the dock.
Thanks for help.

2023.06.08 19:50 Dry_Cardiologist6758 The bad outweighs the good maybe what do you think?
Now I'm not here to troll or be trolled so I wanted to know what your likes and dislikes are on Diablo 4 so since I made the post I'll start: Pros: the story is good enough, the side quests are plenty, the classes have unique abilities like the wizard enchant or necromancer book of dead., You can always respect, The game runs great on steam deck, the ability to make non legendary items legendary is cool. The graphics are good and so is the music. But now the cons: the game must be beaten to get unique drops, the enemies have way too much health and bosses have too many stages, the drops are nothing to feel excited about, the clan search has errors, the log in has errors, the chat tab has no global, the socal tab is lacking any social features like party search, the game punishes you for gaining levels, to get your mount you have to struggle with astroth early on, skill trees limit you and restrict you leaving you no flexibility.

So I’m playing botw on wii u and I bought the dlc before the eshop closed down but I screwed up and deleted all data (tried to rip the games files so I could play it on my steam deck) but now I only have the xenoblade side quest so is there anything I can do other than modding to get the dlc?

2023.06.08 19:14 duo12decimal Gaming laptop for steam library
So I posted on steamdeck but have been advised I may get more help here, here goes-
Bought a steam deck and for what it was and the cost it was great, but preferring a bigger screen and not something handheld- a friend wanted to buy it from me and would have more use for it as they travel with work so it's been sold to them.
Now I'm looking for a laptop equivalent to continue playing my library of games (RDR2, God of war, Dayz, Halo, Sekuro and more-most of my library was deck verified or playable on deck)
I would prefer to keep the cost down as much as possible so looking to spend around £750, maybe less, maybe more if need be, its not set in stone, so I can continue playing the steam games I have.
Battery life isn't so important as it will be used mostly at home, but in terms of specifications (cpu, graphics and Ram) i really have no idea what I'm looking for or needing. If I can play the games at console quality (ps4/1080) I would be more than happy.
In the UK market, so would anyone be able to advise what I should be looking at or looking out for? Don't mind second hand if it gets me something better, and don't mind upgrading the ram or hdd if needed.
Thanks in advance all
