Sprinkler system not sealing
I noticed turning on the water to the sprinklers this hear that this top part is spraying out. The top comes right off, isn't attached to anything. The inside is super loose too. Am I missing a piece? Is that something I can get alone or do I need a whole new assembly?

2023.06.07 21:22 ooglek2 Continuous Use (spring/summer) 10" Freeze-Resistant Sillcock/Spigot/Faucet

Every year for the last 5 years I have turned on my outdoor water faucet / spigot and installed a timer and a 30psi flow restrictor to feed my drip irrigation system.
Everything works great, but my freeze-resistant faucet from Mueller B & K ASSE 1019A 10" has started leaking out of the handle screw and the head.
I've looked into repair kits, but since this is screwed into my copper and accessible in a crawl space, I figure I can replace it without too much hassle.
What I'm finding though is that even if I spend the money on a Woodford over a Mueller, Prier, Everbilt, Plumber's Choice, etc, NONE of them are "rated" for continuous use, which is what I believe I am doing by leaving the valve open between May and October (6 months per year).
What I have NOT found is any spigots that are rated for continuous use.
What I am guessing, and what I'd like to confirm, is that freeze-resistant faucets are great but are NOT designed for this type of use, and likely I'd be better off installing just a normal faucet / spigot that does not have the freeze-resistant 10" length and simply drain it manually every year (there is an easy shutoff for that single pipe, so I can shut it off and drain it without affecting the house).
Am I on the right track?
If so, I'd really appreciate high-quality recommendations for the spigot / faucet, as well as the easiest way to install it without a plumber involved. The current Mueller 10" is screwed into the copper, and the hole through the cinder block (8") foundation is large enough to accept a slightly larger pipe dimension /extension if necessary.

2023.06.07 20:56 chonkmeister-general What Is The Strength Of A Rope?

I am making a tie out for my dog using rope so I need to work out the strength of the rope to buy.
The descriptions are often like this:
The Everbilt 3-Pack of 3/8" x 50 ft Diamond Braid Polypropylene Rope is perfect for your heavty-duty fastening needs. Comes in 3 colours per package, each 50 feet or 15.24 metres long and 3/8 inch or 9.5mm thick. Each can support up to 150 pounds or 68 kg of weight.
https://www.homedepot.ca/product/everbilt-3-8-in-x-50-ft-diamond-braid-polypropylene-rope-3-pack-/1001761620
I am assuming that this means you can slowly add weight up to 150lbs until it snaps, which would imply that it should be fine for dogs under 150lbs.
However, a dog is more likely to run after a squirrel until it gets pulled back by the end of the rope (assume a harness so it doesn't kill itself).
Is this now a different value?
If so, how do we calculate if this rope is strong enough for a dog of 65lbs/30kg? Youngs modulus?

Nice to get stuff off the floor. Concrete is just a month old so I can finally start moving the big tools in. Lots of other ryobi stuff that lives in other places (truck toolboxes, etc)

2023.06.05 00:33 sonosguy Pressure tank has no water to drain

Hello! Someone please help. I have a cabin that I'm finally renovating. We had a well dig 12 years ago, bottom of well is 65 feet deep 100 feet from home. Not deep at all. Before we had power, we used a generator to pump water. We ran power so now on nyseg. Apparently the well company installed a 20 gallon pressure tank buried next to the well 12 years ago, the pump motor is shot and I think it was from a failed pressure tank. That's burried. I consulted the well company and they said I can just get a 32 gallon above ground pressure tank and not worry about the broken pressure tank. So I spent all weekend replacing the pump motor (now have a red lion 1/2 HP 13GPM and I think rated for only 40psi) and have a well rite 32 gallon pressure tank both brand new. It's 2 wire and a ground 230v system connected to a dual pole 15 amp breaker with an everbilt pressure switch. Wired correctly and when I turn on the breaker, the pump pulls water great and pressure climbs but stays at about 20psi, the pressure switch is 40/60 and the tank was precharged at 38.5 (I verified before turning it on) and it stays at only about that 20 psi until I open the main exit valve that will be going to the rest of the house not connected yet. It's jumps to about 35 psi to 40. Has a drip leak at a few connections but nothing I could imagine not letting it build pressure. I leave it on for about 5 minutes or so then turn it off. Pressure Guage doesn't move down which is good, but the brand new tank is empty. I know that because I open the spigot to empty the tank and about 2 cups of water comes out when it should be about 15 gallons. Which leads me to believe the pressure tank is not filling. Doesn't make sense to me since the t pack is pretty simple in theory. The inside of the pipes looked brand new and its hard for me to imagine it's already clogged. Thank you for any help or suggestions you have!

Mold or wood staining?
Hi all, newbie to woodworking here, any advice greatly appreciated:
Built a cabinet for my garage last spring using 3/4" Birch Purebond ply from HD. To use the offcuts, I pieced them together with zinc coated corrugated fasteners and Titebond III. After a week of drying, I sealed it using Ecos water based varnish. Everything was dry when assembled. Fast forward a year later and I'm now noticing black spotting only around where the fasteners were used, nowhere else. Not sure how long the spotting has been present.
The shelf just holds holiday bins and hasn't seen water, lives in an unconditioned garage. The spotting appears to be under the varnish, I cannot wipe it off.
Reddit experts, do you think this is mold or staining? The spotting looks suspiciously like mold to me and I don't want to risk it contaminating my garage or spreading if so. No other parts of the project have any discoloration.

Thank you for your help!!

2023.05.31 03:49 Dak4008 DIY Shelf Help

Hey guys.
I don't know if this is the best subreddit to post this on but here we go. I am planning on making a DIY shelf to hold around 60-90 pounds so it can hold my pc or whatever stuff I decide to put on the shelf. I am looking at these items for building it: Shelf Brackets would these work well? I am planning to cut down the shelf so then it fits just my pc. it weighs around 30 lbs. Do I have to put another bracket in the middle or just use two of them?
Thanks!

I am wondering if anyone has some advice on how to re-tighten this gate spring. I went one turn too far and the tension has completely disappeared (spring popped when I opened the gate). There is one hex at the top (which you are supposed to tighten) and one at the bottom.

Caps for U-posts?
We use these types of U-posts to hold up wire fencing around our vegetable garden. However I can’t find any caps/tops for them to use as a prevention from accidental scratching/cuts. I’ve tried caps that are more designed for T-posts but they don’t fit. I can’t for the life of me find anything. By any chance, has anybody used these types of U-posts and put on protective caps on top of them?

2023.05.30 18:40 chonkmeister-general Knot Suggestion For Making A Rope Tie Out

I am planning on making my own cable tie out of 1/2" rope since it has a working load of 230lbs.
https://www.homedepot.ca/product/everbilt-1-2-inch-x-50-ft-polypropylene-heavy-duty-32-strand-diamond-braid-rope-with-230-lb-safe-working-load/1001181335
My plan is to put a loop on either end, wrap it around a tree, feed one end through the loop on end A and use a carabiner on end B to attach to my dogs collar.
This sort of thing https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61tYaKCsEAL._AC_SX522_.jpg
What do you think the best knot is to make a loop on the rope for this?

2023.05.28 09:13 Fabulous-Midnight278 garage sink install

trying to install a kitchen faucet with my hose faucet as the water line. I found a helpful video that said to get a dishwasher install kit, which had some of the parts needed – 3/8-in. compression x ¾-inch garden hose (FHT) 90-degree elbow - but then I think I need a y-connector (since I don't have hot/cold, or maybe it just hooks to one?) & some adapters in order to connect the hose from the kit to the kitchen faucet hose?
would either of these work to connect the two 3/8 FIP lines?

2023.05.28 05:04 yllw98stng High Flow 3/4” Spigot

High Flow 3/4” Spigot
We had to replace a piece of pipe that fed our garden spigot/hydrant this spring. The pipe is 1” PVC which is reduced to 3/4” at the spigot. Looking inside the spigot, the orifice inside is very small, maybe 1/4”. We would like to get as much water out of the spigot as possible but want to retain the look of a traditional spigot. The faucet pictured has a very large orifice, but appears to be meant to mount on top of a pipe. Our faucet is coming out of a wall so the one pictured would angle back towards the house.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a 3/4” wall mount spigot with a large orifice?
