Originally posted in legaladvice forum: I have scoured the communities for the right forum and ultimately chose this one, so I hope I made the right choice. I am trying to contact my ex while protecting myself from being charged with harassment and this is a difficult situation to formulate properly as a question, so I’ll try to give a brief overview of the situation. Warning, it gets a little weird and all over the place but I’ll try to keep it consolidated.
I was with my ex for 4.5 years. He had some complicated dental issues due to inherited soft tissue genetics (not drug use or poor hygiene) and I decided to help him because honestly he was just not motivated enough to research how to navigate a solution between insurance coverage, consultation, etc. so I handled it. It was determined that he needed to have all his teeth extracted and have dentures made. So we did, and I put it on a credit card (July 2022) with a written agreement he would pay me punctually and before the 12 month 0% introductory promotion expired.
Fast forward to now- late May 2023; our relationship has become tumultuous basically due to his irresponsible, negligent behavior and inability to uphold his agreement to keep payments up. We were cohabitating up until late April 2023 and the latest argument sent him running to his mothers to seek refuge.
Well low and behold, he leaves his dentures behind accidentally. He proceeds to ask me to return them to which I only responded that “you cannot expect me to return them when you haven’t paid for them in 4 months and the deferred interest will be hitting on the next statement. If you come up with the balance (roughly $1800.00) I’d be glad to return them.”
2 weeks go by and I hear nothing from him. So naturally, I decide to reach out. Send a casual text checking in to see if he’s ok. No reply. Call, no answer. Call a second day, no answer. So I make a call to police non-emergency and ask them to conduct a welfare visit to ensure that he is ok. 20 minutes later I receive a call from County Police (I live in Delaware) and the officer tells me that he is fine but that he does not wish to be contacted and any additional attempts to do so will be considered harassment. 😳 Excuse me?! I’m floored.
I begin to tell the officer the situation and he is clearly not interested and keeps repeating himself that I take it to Civil Court. Fine, I already know this and that’s not the solution I’m seeking. I tell him that I’m going to continue to contact him because A. surely he must want his teeth returned?! and B. we have an upcoming payment to resolve. He repeats himself that if I contact him again I’ll be arrested.
So my perplexity lay in the fact that this officer could not have possibly even forced the proof of burden on my ex to show evidence of harassment because he clearly would not have any evidence of harassment to show proof of aside from an “are you ok” type text and 2 declined calls.
Almost 2 weeks have gone by since this and I now want to contact him. I have a text prepared and I want to send it but I also want to cover myself from any false complaints of harassment.
I researched the legal definition of harassment and came up with:
The Intent of the Crime In order for a behavior to be labeled as harassment, the intent of the accused must be to harass, annoy, or alarm the victim. A prosecutor must be able to prove intent to convict a defendant of harassment. A defendant who never intended on causing any harm by calling a victim or sending a text message should not be convicted of harassment.
Now I know that my contact has not and will not seek to harm or intend to annoy or alarm him. I have prepared a text and here is what it says although it is saved in draft form because I do not want to be charged with any offence as no offense is being committed in my opinion. However I would greatly appreciate the opinion of someone with better experience and knowledge of these particulars.
For all intents and purposes, here is the draft of my intended text message:
In the state of Delaware, illegal harassment is defined as any unwelcome conduct that causes physical harm or injury, or that creates a reasonable fear of physical harm or injury, to a family member or household member. This can include behaviors such as threats, intimidation, or physical violence. Delaware law also recognizes emotional abuse as a form of domestic harassment.
In Delaware, making a false complaint to police is considered a misdemeanor offense. If convicted, the penalty can include a fine of up to $1,150 and/or up to one year in jail.
My intent is to arrange return of your property. I cannot do this without contacting you.

So I have a lot of dental anxiety and pain sensitivity and I find dental cleanings really difficult and often painful. I end up avoiding them and then need more expensive dental work. I’ve promised myself to go get regular cleanings.
Anyone have a recommendation specifically for cleanings that are gentle, pain-free, calm friendly staff and maybe they even offer numbing and or relaxation services (music or things to distract you?)
I’m looking specifically for offices that offer good cleanings for anxious patients rather than a good overall dentist. I have a good dentist for fillings and check ups but not sure I want to go there for cleanings.

I've been a longtime coffee enthusiast but am new to this subreddit. I purchased my current machine - the Rocket Cellini Evoluzione V2 about 10 years ago. It changed my life and has been an incredible machine. Over the years I've taken good care of it but it's starting to age and I'm getting upgrade-itis.
I've been looking at the Profitec Pro 500. I'm happy with the HX and don't really care to have a double boiler, since I'm the only one who drinks coffee in the house and rarely make more than 2-3 coffees back-to-back when entertaining, so a double boiler isn't necessary to pump out shot after shot. My morning routine is to make a cortado when I wake up and then usually have another one after dropping the kids off at school. I have a WeMo plug/app so the machine is on and pre-heats about 20 minutes before I'm ready to make my coffee. It's a glorious set up.
I'm at the point where I either need to spend approx $500 to keep my current machine in good repair (the pressurestat needs replacing among other things) and I'm just not sure if it's worth continuing to repair.
Any thoughts out there on continuing to service the Rocket or go for the Profitec. I'd love to buy another Rocket but I realize I would be overpaying for the brand and the Profitec has similar (if not better) components but is cheaper for an equivalent machine. The Rocket machines are just so sexy though. Either way, I'll be sticking with the E61 group head so I can keep using my bottomless portafilter, etc.

I have a team member reporting directly to me who lives in Fairview. Our head office is in Ortigas. Our nature of work requires us to do a lot of fieldworks and ngayon mostly provincial, the likes of Nueva Ecija, Laguna etc so late talaga nakakauwi. This is clearly disclosed during the first job interview pa lang and also part pf the contract.
When we go to our fieldworks, it’s either you take your 1. personal car 2. commute 3. or if available, you can book the company’s logistics van pero kadalasan hindi to available since maraming kinacater
So this employee dahil walang personal car and ayaw magcommute, nagsuggest sya na magcar and driver rental na lang. Took this up with our manager and they agreed to it, granted na makakapagissue ng OR yung service.

I send them to field works in pairs and preferred ko na magkaron sila ng common pickup point, if not sa HO, somewhere convenient for all of them basta hindi direct sa house nila. My point is hindi namin kilala yung mga drivers and kung madalas sila ihahatid makakabisado na saan sila nakatira.

And bakit daw laging sa Ortigas yung usual pickup point namin pano naman daw siya na tagaNorth? And out of all the team members, sya daw lagi late nakakauwi dahil sng layo nya.

Kinonsider ko yung pagod nya dun at layo sa bahay para din safe sya. So karamihan ng requests nila as long as reasonable and para di rin sila overhwhelmed sa trabaho inaapprove naman. Eto lang talaga and hindi ko mapayagan.
Am I being unreasonable? At the end of the day, I am liable pa rin sakanila and I am just looking out for them. I also find it unfair yung statement niya kasi parang pininpoint nya na kapag Metro Manila yung projects or hindi kalayuan yung inuuwian ng ibang members, hindi sila as pagod as her. And the fact na ginagamit niya as an excuse na sa Fairview sya nakatira when she accepted a job located in Ortigas knowing how far the office is from her home.

I have a team member reporting directly to me who lives in Fairview. Our head office is in Ortigas. Our nature of work requires us to do a lot of fieldworks and ngayon mostly provincial, the likes of Nueva Ecija, Laguna etc so late talaga nakakauwi. This is clearly disclosed during the first job interview pa lang and also part pf the contract.
When we go to our fieldworks, it’s either you take your 1. personal car 2. commute 3. or if available, you can book the company’s logistics van pero kadalasan hindi to available since maraming kinacater
So this employee dahil walang personal car and ayaw magcommute, nagsuggest sya na magcar and driver rental na lang. Took this up with our manager and they agreed to it, granted na makakapagissue ng OR yung service.

 | Here's my report for the southbound Texas Eagle this past Saturday. I boarded in Chicago and disembarked in Alton, IL. First some notes about Chicago Union Station. For all coach passengers Amtrak uses the Great Hall as waiting room space. It's a great space but oddly enough they could use more seating. While entering the great hall there was a sign saying Train 21 Texas Eagle Passengers Check In. I checked in and they gave me a seat check with ALN written on it and told me to get on the train at Door 1. This office closed about 45 minutes before the train departed and I saw many on board without seat checks. They called us all about 20 minutes before departure, lined us all up and marched us down to the track where we boarded. There were signs (Door 1,2,3,4) and attendants at each car door asking us our destinations. Looked to be a five car train, three coaches, diner, and sleeper at the front behind a GE loco. Door 1 was the last car, a nice Superliner coach. All the short haul St. Louis and Illinois passengers were in the last coach. The car was about 75% full. I didn't have a seatmate but many did. I grabbed the last seat on the left side as I wanted to look out the rear window en route. On time at Joliet with a BNSF stack train racing us the last mile into the station. But as we accelerated past 80mph south of Joliet the wind began to whistle around the rear door. It was annoying. Noise cancelling headphones made it bearable, but it was enough that myself and a few others tried messing with the rear door to stop it. Nothing much worked. As much as I enjoyed looking out the back at 100mph across the Illinois prairie, the whistle made sitting in the last seat less than optimum. While the Amfleet/Horizon/Venture equipped corridor trains can hit 110, Superliners are limited to 100. We had to wait a few minutes for a northbound UP stack train and were 5 minutes late into Lincoln. The train arrived in St. Louis on time. I snagged a beer and some chips from the dinecafe and service was fine. I do miss the observation/lounge car and hope it eventually returns to the Eagle. Chicago 21st St. Looking out the back at Pontiac Pontiac, IL new depot. Here's a pro tip for those thinking of using the very nice Alton, IL station. Parking is a pay to park gated lot. The rate is $8/day or $35 for a lost ticket. I was in Chicago for two weeks. My car was just fine and my "lost" ticket meant I only paid the rough equivalent of 4 days. The parking lot also miraculously healed my 22 year old car. I had a check engine light on when I pulled in back on May 15th, and the light was off when I pulled out on Saturday! All in all a nice trip. |
