We have 2 nights at the Grand Hyatt and have reservations for Tidepools, Beach House, and Keoki’s Paradise. Which 2 would you keep? We are on our honeymoon, so any restaurants with less hectic/crowded, romantic vibes would be great. Also prefer outdoor seating or open air settings. Thanks!

My wife and I are traveling next week. She’s been trying to try Omakase but I don’t eat seafood and I don’t want her going by herself. Is there any restaurants that will let me sit with her or at least have non seafood dishes? Any recommendations would be recommend.

2023.06.10 19:36 PhilPlease Summary of my June 9, 2023 trip at Disneyland

Hi all, lots of people gave me planning tips so I wanted to return the favor by summarizing my trip, in case it’s helpful. I traveled with my wife. We live in So Cal so we drove to the park the morning of. We did not buy any add ons (like Genie Plus or Lightning Lanes)
Rope drop: my wife and I went straight to Adventureland and boarded Indiana Jones (20 minute wait)
Immediately after, walked onto Jungle Cruise (no wait). Then walked into Pirates (no wait, but broke down for ten minutes). From there, got a churro (no line) and walked onto Winnie the Pooh (no wait).
Walked to galaxy’s edge. Lines were long so went to cantina (walked in without reservation, then left after a few minutes after the stormtroopers came in).
Went to Fantasyland. Rode Pinocchio (no wait), Snow White (ten minutes), the carousel (five minutes), and the storybook river cruise (five minutes). Then walked onto Small World (no wait).
This is when the park started filling up somewhat (around 11am). After, headed to Tomorrowland and rode Star Tours (25 minutes) and Buzz Lightyear (35 minutes). Got a pretzel (no wait) before hopping into Star tours line.
Crossed back to adventure land to get some dole whip with mango chimoy (can’t mobile order, so waited about fifteen minutes and soaked in the vibes). Then snacked on beignets at hungry bear (mobile ordered - no wait).
At this point, rise of the resistance had broken down. We went back to galaxy’s edge and ate lunch at the restaurant (I think it’s called landing port). Food was excellent. Atmosphere was amazing.
Then went to smugglers run (45 min wait). As we neared the end of the line I saw on the app that the wait ballooned to 180 minutes. Meanwhile ROTR was still closed.
After, went to chill in galaxy’s edge. Saw the mandalorian. Walked past ROTR. The cast members at the entrance were letting people in and told us the wait would be 40-50 min. In actuality the ride was still broken. As we waited, many park guests exited the line from the front. Several said they had waited two hours. We waited for an hour and then bailed. I checked the app throughout the day after and the ride stated down for another two hours or so.
After leaving ROTR, we veered to frontier land because we hadn’t seen it yet. We browsed the shops for a while, then went to Main Street to get coffee at Starbucks (15-20 min wait). It was definitely worth the wait because we were really tired and needed the coffee. We sipped our coffee and relaxed, pursuing the main street sites, shops, and exhibits.
After, we did the tea cups (10 or 15 minute wait). Then the parade marched past us, so we got to see the parade. We didn’t have the best view (we were near small world), but we got a pretty decent view of everything and enjoyed the parade.
After, we stopped by toon town just to take in the sites. Rodger rabbit had an hour wait, but we didn’t want to go on it. The new Micky and Minnie ride was not taking standby wait anymore (just lightning lane). But toon town was really cute (spent about ten minutes just walking around).
Next, we headed to the Mark Twain for a sunset cruise. It was a highlight of the day. Really nice ride. Very impressive ship.
Then we hopped off and walked around New Orleans Square at night. Really beautiful when sun sets. Then, we did the same for Galaxy’s edge. We bought some dinner (sausages - pretty delicious and no wait) and then took in the sites. We also checked out the gift shop. (By this time ROTR was reopen but the lightning lane was over an hour wait because the ride had essentially been broken all day)
We ended the day by walking around fantasy land, through tomorrow land, to the front of the castle. We arrived around 9pm and waited for the fireworks show. We got a great spot and enjoyed the show.
After the show, we did some last minute shopping in Main Street and downtown Disney. After waiting out the crowds for a bit we took the tram back to the parking lot and were out of the parking lot around 10:30/11pm.
—————— Biggest tips: Be at the parking lot no later than 7:30am and make sure you rope drop. We got on pretty much every ride.
Don’t expect to get on ROTR or the new Micky and Minnie ride. It’s slammed. If you really want to go, you have to prioritize it and recognize you’ll have to pay for extras (stay an extra day, buy lightning lanes, and/or buy genie plus) or you’ll have to be willing to go on fewer attractions so that you can make it in one of these two rides. You also need a little luck - the reason I didn’t rope drop ROTR is because everyone rope drops it and because it’s often broken down at the beginning of the day. So I didn’t want to roll the dice and risk losing that two hour window where few people are in the park.
The rides are fun but definitely pick and choose what you go on. If a ride doesn’t interest you very much, then don’t spend an hour waiting for it. For instance, we skipped a few rides like Autopia because we didn’t care for that ride. Same with some roller coasters (they’re cool but my wife doesn’t like roller coasters and Disney coasters aren’t worth waiting more than an hour, to me. But I’ve been going for years so I’ve been on all the coasters a million times.)
Instead, one of the best parts of the park is soaking in the good vibes, hanging with a snack, and just appreciating all the immersive decor.
Similarly, I recommend revisiting parts of the park during different times of day. The ambiance totally changes at sunset and then during the evening. The best examples are Main Street, Galaxy’s Edge, and New Orleans Square.
I think one of the best things we did was rope dropping adventure land. Most people rushed to ROTR or Space Mountain, which had pretty big wait times. If you were one of the lucky few who made it to the front of the line, it may have been worth it, but most people probably had to wait a while. By contrast, rope dropping adventure land enabled me to go on a bunch of rides in the first two hours. It took stress off the second half of the day. I also saw that many of these rides had huge lines after eleven.
Bring a backpack. Pack an extra pair of shoes, water, and sunblock.
Lastly, I recommend doing a river cruise through the Mark Twain at sunset. I also recommend getting to the fireworks show at least 30 minutes early, but no more than 45 minutes early.
A final tip - research before you go. Familiarize yourself with the park layout, get the app, watch YouTube videos, and get a game plan. You should have a sense of what you want to do and how you’re going to accomplish it.

2023.06.10 19:34 OtherwiseFly5407 Counter (canned) kimchi sourness?

Hey :) So I’ve recently gotten into Korean cuisine and I love it! A nearby restaurant serves amazing Kimchi-Bokkeum and I tried doing it at home. I’m running into a problem with not just this dish but any dish containing Kimchi: The Kimchi is a bit too sour. Because I don’t have time to prepare the kimchi myself, i usually get some canned kimchi from the Asia-supermarket. I’m quite happy with it, but as I said, my dishes often turn out too sour. I’ve tried countering with sugar but it didn’t seem to help a lot. Do I just need to add more? Are there any preparation tricks or ingredients I can use to counter the kimchi’s sourness? In the restaurants dish, there’s just this slight hint of kimchi-sourness, what are they doing differently? (tbh i don’t really think they make their own fresh kimchi)

2023.06.10 19:23 avocadoooforlife Have y'all ever genuinely forget to pay in a restaurant after eating and just left like that?

So today, i went to eat at a restaurant with my cousin. The food was good and we were too full from it... so we walked out forgetting that we had to pay our bills. The person in charge had to chase after us. Genuinely felt so bad about it because we walk quite a distance away from the restaurant without even realising or remembering that we had to pay... even the person in charge had to chase us. Hopefully they know it wasn't intentional sigh hahaha feel so bad

2023.06.10 19:22 Safe_Canary8447 Had a gun flashed at me.

I was doing a pickup at a Rallys in a decent neighborhood. Had some graduation thing or something happening which had teens ordering like crazy and also filling restaurants. (Not my hometown.)
They had 1 drive-thru line marked for delivery drivers only. Waited for 10 minutes, but got my order and was ready to go. There was a car ahead of me with two teens in it. Apparently they ordered for like 10 people. I flashed my headlights once to let them know someone was behind them that needed to move. There were parking spots on the other side of a short concrete barrier just a few feet away. I was ignored. Waited about five minutes and then honked. Ignored again. After a few more minutes I got out of my car and walked up to the two kids standing next to their car. Kept a few feet away and said, "Hey, could you please move your car. There’s some parking over there and I need to make a delivery.
Kid lifted his shirt and flashed me a gun. I was like, "Hey I don't want any trouble, I just need to make a delivery." He responded, "Whatever" and moved his car barely out of the way.
I'm fairly certain that he was just posturing, but it pissed me off! I was in that neighborhood, because the busiest areas near my house are downtown in some rough spots and I don't feel like putting myself in danger for a little money.

2023.06.10 19:21 peterson2111 Ever - Chicago Illinois (**)

This was Ever. At the Helm of Chef Duffy, formerly of (***) Grace, you step into an awe inspiring space worthy of the finest restaurant; complete with $1,000 chairs, and hanging food from the ceiling. You grab your first drink from anywhere in the opening hallway.
You are served 10 courses throughout the evening. Everything ranged from Good, to very good, but nothing blew me away in the sense that I’ll be thinking about it in a month. Duffy’s signature, the liquid nitrogen frozen hamachi curls, was definitely the stand out dish of the evening. Props also go to the rabbit, A5, and final dessert course. The caviar was underwhelming and a very small portion compared to other Michelin restaurants, whilst the asparagus and scallop were fine. Evening could have used two more courses as well.
Service left something to be desired compared to other (**), which is where I felt the experience felt flat. Ever seemed like 1.5 star cooking, in a 3 star building, with .75 star service. Everything was very rugged. Waiters didn’t transition smoothly, they didn’t sync with each other properly, dishes came not in sync, or at the wrong moment while the somollier was still talking. Chairs wouldn’t be pulled open, and there wasn’t the attention to detail I’ve seen at many other places. There was no continuity of service, and general flow of the evening just felt very very VERY rough. It’s like they knew everything they had to do but the execution was off. The service captain, however, was wonderful.
Overall, the potential in this space is massive. Add 1 or 2 standout dishes + cleanup the service and I can see a third star. Until then, would probably reccomend a skip (for now).

2023.06.10 19:19 burn_the_ice 25 [M4F] New York - Seeking a Chill Nerdy Girl to Vibe With on LI

Here’s what I look like: (https://imgur.com/a/QWQaZE3) I’m pretty tall (6’3”) with a lean build.
I’m a central Long Islander who’s just looking for good vibes with someone down-to-Earth, and hopefully also located on Long Island. Someone I could share memes and watch movies with. Someone I could talk to for hours into the night and share music and memes with. Weebs and gamers are especially welcome. If you’re on the awkward or introverted side, it’s far more likely to endear you to me than turn me away. I deal with demanding people and responsibilities being dumped on me at home AND at work, and nothing would make me happier than to meet someone I can let my guard down and decompress and geek out with.
I got promoted to project manager at the testing lab I work at about a month ago, and have been working long hours to acquaint myself with the position and get comfortable. In addition, I teach weekly ESL classes to Spanish and Haitian Creole-speaking locals. I’ve had to financially support my mom (long story short: my father is a complete non-factor in my life) and manage our home for the past few years, which has locked me into “workaholic” mode. With the promotion/raise, Mom’s health improving, and less need to work long shifts now that I’ve got my shit together though, it looks like I may be free to start relaxing and enjoying myself. Free to “live” a little, so to speak. My ultimate goal, career-wise, is to break into financial or managerial accounting, but hopefully not be married to my work and have time to take things easy and enjoy the little things in life between work.
Just about anyone who knows me would describe me as calm, collected, blunt, and generally on top of things. I don’t mince words when I see that something is wrong, and I like to see issues resolved or at least communicated as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I have a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that a lot of people seem to find hilarious. For anyone who cares (I personally don’t), I’m a Libra and apparently an extreme ISTJ. (A buddy made me take a test) Outside of my work and personal responsibilities, though, I tend to be pretty relaxed and unconcerned about most things. A lot of stuff just isn’t worth losing sleep over, you know? That aside, I tend to appreciate the more quiet and simple things in life, so I tend not to get along with loud or materialistic people, or people who always need drama and noise in their lives.
Just a few things I like to indulge in, when I can:
- Going out for excursions and exploring Long Island (lately I’ve been interested in exploring new parks and restaurants)
- Learning about animals and watching animal/pet videos
- Reading/Literature (I’m on a hunt for rustic, realistic/historical fiction kind of novels like Pearl S. Buck’s “House of Earth” trilogy or more psychedelic or dark works like Haruki Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore or Ozamu Dazai’s No Longer Human.)
- Documentaries about history, social phenomena, true crime, and nature
- Studying foreign languages (I know 4) as well as learning about foreign countries’ history, culture, and recent/current goings-on
- Anime and manga. Thoroughly familiar with Naruto (not Boruto, though), Dragon Ball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, and Attack on Titan, but now I’m more interested in more experimental, dark, and lesser-known/standalone works like Samurai Champloo or Texhnolyze or Mushishi. My most recent readthrough was Holyland.
- Gaming, although I’m as casual as it gets. I only have a Switch at the moment, and mostly play Smash, Saint’s Row, Animal Crossing, Sifu, and Street Fighter, although I’m getting more and more interested in fighting games by the day. I’m hoping to get a PS4 sometime in the future. Also currently replaying Pokemon HeartGold and Black 2, so Pokemon nerds, feel free to hit me up!
- Putting together folders of cool images, backgrounds, aesthetics, and scenery.
- Listening to music and putting together playlists. I’m super into metal, alternative, bossa… Anything on the mellower side, I guess, although I’ll listen to just about anything besides country. Tell me all about your favorite artists.

2023.06.10 19:15 No_Service7344 10 Days in Italy: A Trip Report of My First Time in Europe

The Itinerary—
Day 0: Nonstop flight to Rome
Day 1: Landed in Rome early in the morning and got an early check-in to the hotel. Got oriented to the city by walking around Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain
Day 2: Visited the Trevi Fountain quickly before our 8:55 guided tour of the Colosseum Arena and Forum. In the afternoon, visited the Capitoline Museums and walked around Tiber Island and a bit of Trastevere
Day 3: 7:45 guided tour of the Vatican and St Peters Basilica. After lunch, walked around Campo di Fiori and visited Piazza Navona as well it’s underground
Day 4: Attended a cooking class where we made pasta and tiramisu. Afterwards, visited the Roman National Museums
Day 5: Day trip to Orvieto. Visited the duomo, underground caves, and St Patricks Well
Day 6: Early train to Florence. Walked around the Duomo before lunch. Afterwards, climbed Brunelleschi’s Dome. For the rest of the day, walked around the Ponte Vecchio area.
Day 7: Took a guided day trip to 2 Tuscan towns. Spent time walking around Siena before a winery tour and lunch in a Tuscan winery. After lunch, visited San Gimignano before heading back to Florence
Day 8: Visited the Uffizi right when it opened and then climbed Giottos Bell Tower before lunch. Saw the David afterwards before relaxing in the evening and enjoying a Florentine T-bone steak
Day 9: Morning train to Venice. After checking into the hotel, visited St Marks Basilica, wandered Dorsoduro, and rode in a gondola
Day 10: Got up at 4:30 to watch the sunrise, wandered around the San Marco area without the crowds and then did the secret itinerary tour of Doges Palace. In the afternoon, walked around in the Cannaregio area before spending the evening at St Marks Square
💶 The Cost for Two People—
Attractions and Tours: €1200 ——I did a small group tour for the Colosseum, Vatican, and Tuscan winery
Hotels: €1700 ——All 3 star hotels near the city centers
Meals/Drinks/Gelato: €1000 ——Ate a light breakfast everyday and ate out at a sit down restaurants for almost all meals (skipped maybe 2 dinners if I had a big lunch)
Flights: €3300 ——Nonstop flight from the US to Rome and 1 stop from Venice back to the US
Transport within Italy: €300 ——Prima Class on Italo trains, ubers, vaporetto pass, transport to/from airport
TOTAL COST: €7500
Travel tips I learned: 1. Book tours for important sites and get into sites right before they open or close. I got the earliest tour for the Colosseum and shared the arena floor with the 4 other people in our group. Surprisingly, it never felt crowded in the Colosseum
  1. Only book SMALL or private tours. Both tours for Colosseum and Winery had 6 people total whereas the Vatican tour had maybe 15. For me, having 15 people in a group was way too many. I think that for crowded/popular sites, spend the money for private tours or tours that have less than 10 people.
  2. Don’t only visit the big cities. I enjoyed Orvieto and Siena way more than Florence and Venice. (Rome was my favorite stop though)
  3. Get up early or stay up late. I got up for sunrise at Venice and it was magical. Completely different than during the day and 10 times better

2023.06.10 19:15 0x706c617921 What’s up with restaurants not splitting a bill in California?

I’ve lived in San Diego for the last year and I’ve noticed that restaurants often don’t give the option of splitting the bill.
For most of my adult life I’ve lived in North Carolina and I’ve noticed that over there, it was a standard practice to ask if you want the bill to be split up or not.
What’s up with this?

So I’m in a bit of a spot. I’m currently dating somebody who is an undergrad STEM student. His education is very tough and he relies on his parents for financial support. I am a humanities student but I do jobs etc and make my own money and fulfill my own expenses. We’re very much in love and he’s a great guy. However handling finances have been a bit off lately. He is in a different city for his undergrad so we get to meet very less. He’s back for the summers. I usually pick him up and drop him home as his house is on the way. However fuel prices have been very high but he doesn’t offer to pay for gas ever and we usually drive around or travel in my car. His parents sold their car and they just have a single car which his parents use for work. We usually hang out at his place as I have strict parents. Whenever we go out (which is rare) he doesn’t offer to pay. Recently I asked him to take me out for food or something and he showed me his bank balance which was almost 0. And jokingly said sure I can take you to a restaurant and you can pay. Now I’m not sure what to do in a situation like this. I feel like having consumed a lot of instagram content, I’ve idealized the concept of a male that usually pays for you and drives you around or at least there is a 50/50 when it comes to finances. It’s not happening here and I’m not sure how to feel or go about this. He’s a great guy in most other aspects. I need help with how to approach this situation. Any suggestions are welcome.
TL;DR: Bf is perfect and loving but doesn’t pay for anything and expects me to provide conveyance for meet ups.

2023.06.10 19:08 Mtntop24680 The worst server at my service bar… finally had to complain to a manager about her last night.

A (not so short) short rant, if you’ll indulge me, because I woke up still in a bad mood this morning.
I work at a seasonal resort. My little bar seats about 15 and I’m also responsible for the service bar for a decent sized restaurant. I’m relatively fast, 90% of the servers compliment me on how quick their drinks get out and jump to get me ice, glasses, whatever when the bar gets backed up, then tip over their required amount. The service bar is a tiny window into the restaurant, so I’m pretty isolated back there and it’s hard to flag someone down if I need something, so they do a good job keeping an eye out for me.
But one server. My god, this server. She rings in a drink, then immediately starts hovering. She yells through the window at me while I’m talking to bar guests. She takes half her order and stabs the ticket before the rest of the drinks are made and then never comes back for the rest of them or gets upset they weren’t made even though the ticket is gone. She tries to take other servers drinks, but refuses to run them when I tell her they aren’t hers. She can’t identify any of our beers or wines so she just rifles through them looking for hers. Tried to take a lager when she was waiting on a brown ale. She just stands there staring at me until hers are ready. Every interaction with her is absolutely maddening. Reportedly she’s known to have similar issues with the kitchen.
They seat the restaurant in waves, so I usually get a burst of tickets from all the servers at once, about every 15 minutes. One night, even though I was stacked 9 tickets deep, all cocktails, on her side, with a full bar, she threw a fit because her margarita took 6 minutes to come out. Told me she was going to have to apologize to her table for the long wait.
Last night I finally called the manager into the bar because I couldn’t take it anymore. A ticket of hers went missing, no idea how. She very well may have picked it up before it was made, she’s done it before, or I just lost it somehow. It happens. And then she didn’t notice or say anything for 30 minutes. I’m of course blamed and scolded for it happening because the table is pissed. She’s “afraid to ask me for drinks” because I’ve told her she can’t ask where her drinks are the second she sends them through. Anyway, manager doesn’t do anything after I complain. It was just a trainee manager and a trainer from corporate there last night anyway.
I work the next three nights with her. Pray for me. And share your awful server stories so I feel less insane for hating this lady.

2023.06.10 19:02 GarbageVirtual6290 Worst date

I went out with this guy for dinner today, we have met couple of times before also. We went to a pretty decent place for dinner today, and this guy wanted to pay the bill in some points, which the restaurant told us are not applicable. And then this guy who is literally 36 years old, told me he did not bring any cash or other mode of payment and asked me to pay and told me we would split it later. Before I can even pay the bill, he just walked out and later paid me only 30% of the amount and said I'll give next time 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ And insisted that he will book me a cab, which he did. But again I had to pay for that also. What the fuck is going on? Like it's a shit show rn, can't expect basic manners also.

2023.06.10 18:59 Northwood31 Honeymoon in Norther Spain

Hi all,
My wife and I are planning our honeymoon in Spain for August. Looking for some feedback on out itinerary before we book everything (a few things are already booked but we are still in the free cancelation window). We have never been to Spain before and this is our first trip together internationally.
We arrive in Madrid on in mid August and leave Madrid two weeks later.
  1. Arrive in Madrid at 6 a.m. and either rent a car or train to San Sebastian (around 2 p.m.) - another flight is also a possibility but I have read that it is a very scenic drive/train and with the scheduling all three get in around the same time. Car would allow us to make a few stops along the way. We are open to any suggestions of stops along the way - either scenic, historical, or wine related in the Rioja region.
  2. Say in San Sebastian 4 nights. So many people have told us that this is one of their favorite cities in Spain and in the world. My concern is that 4 nights might be too much. The first day might be a bit of a wash with travel but it would be a full 3 to 3.5 days.
  3. Drive to Bilbao and stay 1 night. Explore the city and the museums.
  4. Drive to Gijon area - stay 3 nights. Seems like there is so much to do in this area. Day trip to Ovideo and the surrounding coastline. Including the coastline towns from Bilbao to Gijon.
  5. Drive to Picos de Europa - hike and stay two nights. This could be done on the way from Bilbao or coming back from the Gijon area. With travel, not sure if this is best as two nights or only one. Mirador Santa Catalina and some of the surrounding hiking trails are on the list.
  6. Drive back to Madrid and stay 3 nights. Explore the city. Mid morning flight on the third day.
Few concerns are too many nights in San Sebastian and possibly one to many nights in Madrid and Picos. We would like a mix of seeing different places and not feeling rushed. We love hiking, eating, and exploring new culture but also want to feel like we are taking the proper time to enjoy the area. Open to any additional suggestions - including specific restaurants, activities, and places to stay (including any festivals) and appreciate any and all feedback.
