2023.05.29 23:06 rougenoirrouge mike ross is unbearable
im at the start of season 4, and i just cannot deal with mike. ive never liked him, ive always thought he was way too much of a sensitive crybaby, i can't relate to that so it's simply annoying for me to watch, but he was still watchable. enter season 4 and from the very beginning he is just unbearable to the point i think harvey should just expose his ass. am i the only one that thinks mike is incredibly selfish as well as way too fucking sensitive? like for fuck's sake he's a grown adult but throws a fit over everything (which i guess makes him perfect for rachel). adding on to all of this, he's completely unfair to rachel as well and i do not like her but during the time she was picking a college out he was being completely unreasonable, and this isn't the only time he's unfair to her. anyway that's the end of my rant, good day to all.

2023.05.29 23:04 InvestmentMassive511 Best friend cancelled on me then went to the bar with other friends... and my cousin.
I need advice on this situation: My best friend (Marie) of 8 years cancelled on me and went to the bar with other friends... and my cousin. We had plans to go riding 4-wheelers and camping with my parents this past weekend. It had been planned for about a week and a half. Keep in mind we had been on trips like this with my family before, she's like a sister to me and has no problems going on trips with my family. We live 2 hours away from each other and the distance hasn't been a problem before either. She had planned to come down Friday morning after work, she works overnights. She texted me Friday morning and told me "I'm sorry, I'm not gonna make it down today. I'm exhausted, it was a long night at work." I told her that it was no problem. My parents and I actually changed plans from leaving out Friday to leaving out Saturday morning because my dad had to work Friday. I let her know that she could come down Saturday morning if she still wanted to come, but if not I completely understood. I've worked overnights before and know how exhausting it can be. She said, "Yeah I'll probably stay home, we got next weekend tho." We have a float trip planned for this coming weekend with all our friends. I was bummed that she couldn't make it, but completely understood. I still had fun with my parents on Saturday, I did wish she was there though. On Sunday morning, I woke up and scrolled through Snapchat stories. I came across my cousin, Elizabeth's story from Saturday night. It was a video of Mike, riding a bull at a bar. Mike and Marie are friends, they bar hop often with each other. I thought it was really weird that Mike was on Elizabeth's story because she only hangs out with Mike when he's with Marie. My cousin, Elizabeth and best friend, Marie work at the same factory on the same shift. They are also friends. In this video, I turned up the volume and could hear my best friend, Marie, shouting at Mike while he was riding the bull. I immediately felt like WTF. I feel like Marie cancelled on me to go hang out with my cousin and other friends at a bar. Part of me wanted to just not say anything, but I felt super hurt by the situation. She was too exhausted to follow through on the plans we had, but could go hang out at the bar. I've been thinking about the situation for the past couple of days. I never thought she would do something like this to me. I decided to kind of confront her about it. On Sunday, I texted her, "Have fun at the bar last night?". She replied, "It was good. There wasn't anybody there so we had the place to ourselves. Lots of pool tables and Mike rode the bull riding thing." In which I replied, "Glad you weren't too exhausted to enjoy it." She hasn't replied anything and it's Monday afternoon, meaning it's been 24 hours. I don't know what I should do. I've been looking forward to the float trip that we're all going on this weekend for months now. Part of me still wants to go, but part of me wants to wait until last minute then not show up. At this point, I don't even think I'd have fun because of this situation. I honestly feel like it's just so disrespectful. I would have taken it better if she just told me the truth about wanting to go to the bar instead. I feel stupid for believing her excuse and being so understanding too. Maybe she didn't have that pre-planned. Maybe she got some sleep on Friday then decided to go out on Saturday night. Part of me wants to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I'm hurt over the situation. To my knowledge, this is the first time she's done this to me. She usually follows through on plans. Any advice on what I should do? How should I move forward? Is she the best friend that I thought she was?

2023.05.29 22:50 London-Roma-1980 NON CONFERENCE MATCHDAY 10 RESULTS
Strap in, everyone, because we have a long road ahead of us. In addition to the NINE games between Top 25 teams, FOUR upsets happened. That's right, the Top 25 was below .500 in its entirety today. So let's see how they did it.
*****
#1 UCLA 90, #9 Syracuse 79. The key to beating a 2-3 zone is to shoot over it. Fortunately for the Bruins, they can.
Reggie Miller had 25 points and led an onslaught that included 13 three-pointers as the Bruins (10-0) took out the Orange (8-2) to maintain their winning streak, now at 47 games and counting.
"The shots were falling tonight," Miller said after the game. "We got what we wanted in terms of looks, and we got them to go in."
In addition to Miller's 5 three-pointers, Russell Westbrook had 3, Kiki Vandeweghe had 2, and Gail Goodrich, Kevin Love, and Jrue Holiday each had one. Syracuse, for their part, shot well, with Carmelo Anthony hitting six threes on his own to get to 22 total points, but it wasn't enough.
"They're #1 for a reason," Orange coach Jim Boeheim said.
#8 Michigan 68, #4 Duke 61. The Power Five have been cracked.
Michigan's defense held Duke to 29% shooting and Juwan Howard led the way with 16 points as the Wolverines (9-1) stunned the Blue Devils (8-2) before a court-storming crowd at Michigan Court.
"This is why you play the game," Howard said amidst a crowd of fans. "We shook up the world tonight. We wanted this one. You beat Duke, you've done good!"
Grant Hill led the Devils with 13 points, but the entire team struggled.
"We were cold tonight," Hill said. "Props to Michigan; their defense smothered us. Not much you can do."
#3 Kentucky 67, #2 North Carolina 64. Who do you call on when you have everyone? Someone's bound to be open, and such was the case here.
Louie Dampier found Devin Booker in the corner as time expired, and the Wildcats (9-1) stunned the Tar Heels (8-2) to send them to their second last-second defeat of the non-conference season.
"We ran a pick and roll off the ball to get [Michael] Jordan off of me and get me open," Booker said, recounting the final play. "Louie knew where I was, he got the pass off after driving for the double... everything just fell into place."
Both teams turned up the defense in this one. Dan Issel led Kentucky with 15 points, while Jordan led North Carolina with 13. Outside shooting was particularly hard to go by, as Booker's winner was only the fifth three-pointer of the game combined.
"We did almost everything right," Tar Heels coach Dean Smith said after the game. "Almost."
#5 Kansas 75, #14 Arizona 59. The top teams have shown anyone can step up at any time. Kansas proved it tonight.
Kirk Hinrich caught fire, getting 20 points with five three-pointers, as the Jayhawks (9-1) knocked off the Wildcats (7-3) to produce a potential future matchup with Kentucky.
"We've been seeing how other teams have done," Hinrich said. "It's important we keep winning. We want that last one seed when the dust settles."
Mike Bibby had 15 points, but also committed 8 turnovers as JoJo White's defense proved to be too much for him.
"I had a bad day," Bibby admitted. "This loss is on me."
Arkansas 90, #23 Iowa 83. Are they going to be ranked now? It's not certain what else has to be done.
Joe Johnson went off for 24 points and the full-court pressure held Fred Brown to 5 points as the Razorbacks (8-2) pulled off their second straight top-25 upset, this time knocking off the Hawkeyes (7-3).
"We're just going to keep playing the way we're capable of and we'll be in good shape," Johnson said. "We got off to a slow start, but now we're showing the world what we're capable of."
Don Nelson led the Hawkeyes with 18 points.
#12 Connecticut 92, #21 Alabama 80. A quick rise to the top by the Tide made people wonder if the SEC would have a wild race. Now, it looks like this Tide is receding.
Andre Drummond had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Huskies (8-2) to a big road win over the Tide (7-3) that may solidify them as favorites in the Big East.
"We had an advantage inside, and we knew we could use it," Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said after the game. "We needed this win, you know? A chance to show the Big East still goes through us."
Alabama attempted to turn up the pace against the big men of Connecticut, but Kemba Walker and Ray Allen were able to break the press on offense. On defense, super sub Richard Hamilton helped slow down the opposition, getting 4 steals in the second half.
Latrell Sprewell led the Tide with 18 points.
#9 Notre Dame 67, #17 DePaul 65, OT. Most of the game was a battle inside. But it was outside shooting from a very unlikely source that won the game.
John Paxson hit two three-pointers late in overtime to lead the Fighting Irish (8-2) to an overtime victory over the Blue Demons (7-3).
"All of our players can contribute," coach Digger Phelps told reporters after the game. "We hear a lot about Adrian Dantley and Bill Laimbeer, but we're a team of stars. We feel we can beat anyone."
With the game tied at 58 nearing the end of regulation, George Mikan looked to have won the game with a hook shot. However, before he could shoot, he was whistled for a three-second violation. Paxson's heroics in overtime then meant the difference.
"I lost track of time," a dejected Mikan said in the locker room. "I'm sorry, Blue Demon fans."
#25 Illinois 66, #19 Georgetown 56. Illinois coach Lou Henson wanted to focus on defense as much as offense. It's safe to say his team was ready to respond.
A focused effort held Allen Iverson scoreless on the day as the Illini (8-2) stunned the Hoyas (7-3) in a defensive struggle with neither team able to get open shots most of the day.
"That's what I was hoping for," Henson said after the game. "We wanted to get our defensive strength before we faced teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota... I think today we showed we can win ugly as well as win beautifully."
Derek Harper, who led all scorers with 17 points, was the primary responsibility, but Iverson found himself constantly double-teamed with Donnie Freeman and Deron Williams. While Iverson did wind up with 9 assists, the shutout clearly bothered him, as he picked up a late technical foul arguing a no-call.
"We need to work on getting Allen involved more," Hoyas coach John Thompson admitted. "You can't just win inside in this game."
Cincinnati 81, #18 LSU 60. Maybe the adjustment from the AAC to the Big XII will be easier than we were led to believe.
Oscar Robertson had a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Jack Twyman had 21 points as the Bearcats (8-2) stunned everyone by trouncing the Tigers (7-3) in front of the Cats' home fans.
"That was an incredible win," Bearcats coach Ed Jucker said after the game. "They kept talking about their starting five, but today we showed you need a lot of depth to get anywhere. We got that depth and we got a chance to win it all. I hope Kansas is paying attention -- they're not sweeping us this season."
Defense also proved to be a big deal. Robertson and Nick Van Exel constantly switched off on Pete Maravich, holding the scoring machine to only 8 points on the day. Bob Pettit was able to take some advantage to score 17 points, but the Tigers had no help from the bench, as the Cats' bench outscored the Tigers' reserves 21-3.
"Gotta be more than the first five," center Shaquille O'Neal said after the game. "We can only do so much and if one of us is in trouble, we gotta get stepping up."
#15 Southern Cal 78, #16 Maryland 55. Don't sleep on the Trojans now. When they're going against teams in the second and third tier, they are deadly.
Bill Sharman led all scorers with 24 points as the Trojans (8-2) steamrolled the Terrapins (7-3) to make a statement about their goals for this season.
"We think we can steal a Final Four spot," coach Sam Barry said after the game. "Today proved we have the talent to do it. If the shots fall, we can beat anyone."
Gene Shue led the Terrapins with 13 points.
#6 Michigan State 61, #13 Texas 60. The Longhorns seem to be willing to live and die by Kevin Durant. The Spartans knew it when it mattered.
Draymond Green knocked away a pass intended for Durant on the final play of the game to preserve a victory for the Spartans (8-2) over the Longhorns (7-3) on the road in a critical matchup.
"We saw where they were going, we knew they had one big star and if we denied him, we didn't think anyone else could step up," Green said after the game. "I know how to beat Durant, we know how to win the game, and we're just that good."
Magic Johnson had 14 points and 7 assists to lead the Spartans. Durant, for his part, led all scorers with 21 points, but couldn't get the last two, as Avery Bradley's inbound was knocked away.
"Close isn't good enough in crunch time," Durant said to reporters.
NC State 74, #20 Minnesota 65. Last year, the Wolfpack were controversially sent to the NIT despite going 18-14 in the toughest schedule in the country. If they keep winning, they may take it out of the committee's hands when all is said and done.
JJ Hickson had 5 blocks of Kevin McHale on the day and David Thompson scored 20 as the Wolfpack (8-2) stunned the Golden Gophers (7-3) to pick up a road win.
"We deserve to be ranked, and we deserve to be in the [NIBL] tournament," Thompson said after the game. "We've said all year our goal is to be undeniable. If we qualify for selection, we're going to make sure they have to take us. That means winning a lot in non-con, and that's what we're doing."
With Thompson driving and causing collapses of the defense, the outside shooters also had their chances. Spud Webb and Tom Gugliotta hit three three-pointers each over the Gopher defense.
"This was a bad day," said McHale, who despite being blocked led the Gophers with 14 points.
Villanova 79, #24 UNLV 78. Villanova likes to play slower, while UNLV likes to speed it up. Villanova, it turned out, did just enough to keep the Rebels from getting the win.
Randy Foye had 20 points and Kyle Lowry blocked Ricky Sobers' last second putback attempt as the Wildcats (8-2) held off the Runnin' Rebels (6-4) to most likely knock the last mid-major out of the Top 25.
"Our backcourt carried this one," Villanova coach Jay Wright said after the game. "We wanted to show that Paul [Arizin] had backup, and that's what we were able to get. Everyone played their role, and we kept this team -- a very good offensive team -- to just enough to take the win.
On the final play, Sobers inbounded to leading scorer Shawn Marion (18 points). His three pointer was off the mark, and in the scramble, Sobers got the loose ball. He tried a quick shot to beat the horn, but Lowry was ready.

2023.05.29 22:11 DouggieMohammadJones Behind the Bastards' first episode on Vince McMahon really made me realise how bad of a father Fritz Von Erich was.
The host of the podcast basically said that Fritz made Joe Jackson look like a good father, and if everything covered in the episode is true, then that's a very fair summary of how bad Fritz was.
Starting off from the time David, Kerry, and Kevin were just adolescents, he would immediately follow up their sports training after school with 3 hours of wrestling training every night, even though they just wanted to focus on high school and sports.
David was exhibiting a lot of bad health signs before he died, and people outside the Von Erich family insist it was a drug overdose that Fritz tried to sweep under the rug. Fritz is basically the guy that got them hooked on every drug under the sun so that they could perform night after night after night. So him insisting David wrestle while he was in bad health AFTER maybe being the reason he was in bad health to begin with pretty much directly caused David's death. After David's death and at his funeral, Fritz hiked up the prices for coloured photographs of David to 10 dollars because he knew people would buy it. Just pimping out his dead son basically.
When Kerry had his motorcycle accident that required the amputation of part of his foot, he was whisked away to the hospital for major surgery, and right after the procedure was done, Fritz took him away to do a wrestling show that injured his foot even more and caused him to require a bone fusion that made the rest of his wrestling career horribly painful. It's speculated that the drugs in Kerry's system was the reason for his motorcycle accident, which would indirectly damn Fritz because Fritz is the one who encouraged his boys to get hooked on painkillers so they could perform. Kerry would end his life in 1993 after nearly a decade of horrible pain from the injury.
Mike Von Erich, who by many accounts never wanted to be a wrestler at all and was pushed into it by his father, underwent a shoulder injury that required surgery. In Tel Aviv, Israel, he underwent surgery, and then contracted toxic shock syndrome which nearly killed him, gave him permanent brain damage, and caused him to drop from over 200 pounds to somewhere around 150 pounds. A week after he beat the toxic shock syndrome and began his recovery, Fritz wheeled him out in front of a crowd of people to announce his return to wrestling. Mike was slurring his words, sitting in a wheelchair, and obviously could never actually return to wrestling. It was just adding more humiliation and pain to him when he was barely making it as-is. He would later get into a car accident himself, and took his own life after failing to live up to Fritz's expectations. By some tellings of the story, he left a note to his younger brother Chris, as well as a bottle of painkillers (the same thing he would use to kill himself), saying to use them when the time came. The reason for this is he suspected Fritz would push him the same way he pushed all of his other sons.
Chris Von Erich was called up a few years after the deaths of Mike and David to fill in for the family and continue their legacy. The problem with Chris is that he was a very small man, from a lifetime of illness and taking prednisone to deal with asthma and upper respiratory conditions. This made his bones very brittle and he couldn't even take normal wrestling moves without it seriously hurting him. Like his brother Mike, he also experienced severe depression and drug issues, and felt immense pressure to perform for his father, which culminated in his suicide in 1991. Kevin found his body after discovering the suicide note.
Kevin Von Erich is the only son of the 6 to make it out and have a relatively normal life, but even he has dealt with a lot. When his father was entering dementia, he pointed a gun at Kevin's head and threatened to kill him. This is probably not really Fritz's fault, but I think it's a testament to how he could be controlling and refused to get help the way he also refused to get his sons help when they needed it most.
I think it's under-appreciated how much of the tragedy of the family is a direct result of Fritz's machinations. Often it barely gets talked about, if at all. Even the Dark Side of the Ring episode pulled punches about how involved he was in all of this. Grooming teenaged boys into being indentured servants to him, basically. And most of them died. It's horrible.

2023.05.29 22:08 AzAzGod What do I do next!?
2023.05.29 22:07 Malice_Qahwah The day the music lived. (One-shot)
Elvis isn’t dead, he just went home.
Exploratory scout DSX862-QQ1 was cruising along at approximately 80% of lightspeed on an outer spiral arm of the galaxy it was native to. Its mission, issued by the Greater Council Exploratory Committee, was to seek out new life, new civilizations, points of scientific interest, and potential future colonies.
80% of the speed of light was a tremendous pace, even for a craft built by a galactic community as ancient as the Greater Council, but its particle shield was more than up to the task, and it allowed the scout to scoop interstellar dust and hydrogen to refuel itself, slowly charging its drives for the next pinch-jump. Each jump would catapult the little craft a hundred light years forwards, followed by another sub-light cruise to analyse, recharge and listen. It wasn’t expected to find much out here. Life had evolved in the warm, bright galactic core, entire civilizations meeting within decades of reaching orbit of their respective home worlds. Resources were plentiful, many of them had been talking for centuries before meeting face to face, with only years of communications lag, instead of the decades or centuries between the species evolving further out, in the colder reaches.
Out here, on the arm, everything was cold. Even the search for possible colony sites and resources was more a formality, record keeping for the sake of the endless bureaucracy that infested the Council.
So, it had come as a tremendous surprise to the scouts simple intelligence when it picked up the ghostly whisper of a deliberate radio signal.
Pulses, blips, zaps, hisses, all were the normal background noise of the cosmos, but this was a firm BUZZ. Soon followed by strings and knots of beeps. The scout rotates, following its radio antenna ‘nose’ to lock in a direction towards the noise. It spooled up its pinch-drive, and jumps, a few lightyears, not enough to drain its energies, but just enough to allow it to triangulate. Then jump again, to get a third point. A fourth, a fifth.
A yellow star, a few billion years old, spectral and gravitational indications speaking of gas giants, rocky and icy bodies, and a potential habitable zone with a world skimming just along the outer edge of the habitable zone. The source of the signals.
The scout spooled its pinch-drive once more, preparing to make the thirty something lightyear jump to close with the noisy world.
It also began the process of waking up its Commander.

Kevin Karl and the Karlsons wound down their last song of the evening, sweating under the stage lights and bathed in the adoration of the crowd. This was IT, the high they had all dreamed of, had chased through bars, opening acts, and finally, after just a few years, headline act of a whole show!
They’d bopped along to the other acts on that night, friends all, they’d been on tour together for weeks across the entire USA and would be playing two more shows before wrapping up for the year.
Off-stage, past the cheering, singing, breathless fans of rock and roll, brought together by the joy of the new genre that seemed to defy boundaries and break the locks of society. When they played, no-one saw the colour of their skin, Joeys scars, Mikes club foot. The band couldn’t make out individuals in the crowd. They saw humanity, united and beautiful, wrapped in the music they played.
One of the opening acts were gathered back stage, still bouncing, and their singer passed over a reefer cigarette. Kevin took a drag, feeling the smoke sooth his nerves as he passed it on, then he choked and laughed. “That was some show, could you feel them?”
The other singer, Jack ‘Wabbit’ let out a howl, “Hell yeah baby, felt like lightning, smooth lightning all through… wait, that gives me an idea for a song!”
He was off, crouching awkwardly as he pulled a pencil and notebook from somewhere and started scribbling.
Kevin chuckled, took a beer from Joey, and started walking towards the car. While far from brand new, it was big enough to take the band in relative comfort, while the instruments and gear followed in trucks. He climbed in back, sprawling across the bench, and closed his eyes. It was a thousand miles to the next venue, they were already running late to start getting organised, but he needed just a moment.
He was woken by a nudge. “Hey, Kev, you want a ride down to Jacksonville? Wabbit says his cousin has a plane, can take you both to Florida, rest of us will come down with the trucks, faster then the Catalina can get us there.”
Kevin blinked, groggy, but hanging on to getting to the next stop in comfort.
“Damn, yeah, I’m in! No way I’m passing up a planeride in comfort!”

The commander of DSX862-QQ1 listened to the sounds of the boisterous world her small ship had discovered. To say it was barely habitable was an understatement. Plenty worlds had higher gravity, but not the weather extremes this one had. Others had far worse weather but lacked the deadly pathogens that were detectable in the outer reaches of the atmosphere. Others still had some version or variation of every horrific threat this single world had, but never so many of them wrapped into one pristine appearing blue and green ball of life that seemed determined to survive by any means necessary.
She was impressed that life had evolved to multicellular levels at all, never mind to the point where it had achieved radio broadcast, powered flight and, if the latest scans were accurate, atomic power, weaponry, and the rudiments of space flight under development.
This world was only a few centuries from needing a first contact delegation, she could sense it.
If they survived. She’d seen plenty of far more peaceful civilisations wipe themselves out before achieving their full potential after all, and the light-delayed data her ship had gathered on the way in indicated that the primary species of this world **really** liked to fight one another.
Well, it wasn’t as if the Greater Council was perfect. A few hundred worlds, usually half at odds with the other half, or outright warring with the non-aligned groups surrounding them. Over what, she could hardly imagine, resources weren’t scarce, habitable worlds almost common, matters of religion seemed pointless to her.
Rather than be caught up in the endless squabbling, she’d worked to be assigned a scout ship, and only went ‘home’ when the databanks were full or the hull degraded.
She flipped idly through the signals her ship was pulling in. Mostly simple vocal signals, some barely encrypted, likely military, the rest completely in the clear. For a while there had been a simple video signal modulated as well, the computers now busy going through it to compile a useable language interface.
Her digit stopped, as one transmission caught her attention. There was a voice there, the words as yet unintelligible, but it was laced through, interwoven with, strung around a **sound**.
It wasn’t the first she’d heard of music from this world, nor even the first she’d heard following this particular set of musical rules, but there was something about **this** voice… It reached inside her, and she felt her soul reach out to embrace it.
It was memetic, the warning symbol now flashing on her display confirming what she already knew, but memetics were weapons, hazards, dangers to be filtered and avoided, while this?
It spoke of pain, it sang of loss, and heartbreak and joy and unity and togetherness. It sent her thoughts on strange tangents where her actions saved worlds, brought together warning species, enabled peace…
She shook off the effects as the music faded out and a smooth voice mumbled something, before the next song started. That too, touched her, yet lacked the sheer power of the first, and she was able to shut off the recording with a shaky digit.
She fumbled the ships controls, aligning with the source of the original transmission. A rickety looking steel tower with several high-powered emitters inside a small building next to it. Clearly not the source of the music itself, merely a civilian broadcast station, the music an entertainment medium.
She turned her attention then, to discovering what, or who, had created such a wonder.

Kevin stared at the airplane. It looked fresh, but old.
“War surplus, picked her up for a song when she was gonna be dumped out in a desert!” Wabbits cousin was a skinny boy, barely out of his teens, but with the quick and sure motions of an expert when he touched his beloved machine. “I heard you guys playing last night, gotta say, it changed my mind about black folks. Always thought to myself, to each their own right? And the laws are that way too, it made sense, but man, the way you sang, how the band played, I wanted to meet you, to say, you got me to see more. Like how the world looks from way up high, we’re all just one piece of something, right? And I think the world might be less ugly that way. So, I said to my cousin, man, I want to help out, my folks left me a pile of cash, I have my baby here, and if you want, I’ll take you where you gotta go.”
He stopped, looking at the ground, and although Kevin was tempted to accept the offer on the spot, but the kid was offering to sideline everything to ferry around his ass?
“Well, damn, listen man, thanks, and I’m grateful you’re giving us a ride to Jacksonville, but lets take it easy right? See how you feel after the flight and if you want to come to the show, sure, I’ll get you in. I can’t pay for regular flights though, I’m already paying for my car! Besides, as much as I need to get down there and make sure everythings golden, I can’t go leaving my band behind every time!”
“Oh, right, no it’s cool, if they want a ride too its all good. I want to make a change, and helping you out helps me do that, right? If you want to talk money, heck, I could bankroll a few shows, take a percentage in return, but its not about the money. Man you changed me, in a good way. I think you could do the same for people like me! You, uh. I stopped hating, you know? Feels good.”
Kevin started to wonder if he shouldn’t have just curled back up on his car bench and stayed asleep. “Okay, I’m on board, if you want to take the rest of my guys too, that’s great, we all get to our next stop on time, you get a show, and if you still want to help us out, we can look at more shows after the tour. Sound fair?”
They shook hands. Pete, as he turned out to be named, started fussing with his airplane again, and removing what he termed ‘junk’ from the hold and other parts of the craft, which to Kevins untrained eye all looked vaguely important, but were ‘heavy’.
He boarded with his band, and Wabbit, who had his own guitar with him, and as the airplane started taxying, amidst the reefer smoke, and snippets of song Wabbit was working on, they settled down for the flight.

DSX862-QQ1’s commander was hampered in her efforts to locate the origin of the music she had heard by the lack of any real information link between radio and physical locations. There was undoubtably ground-based cable she couldn’t tap, but there was no evidence of a wide area data network, and given the technology of the ‘Humans’ she wasn’t surprised.
Just frustrated.
Nonetheless, she was able to identify the singer, and his ‘band’ who played the instruments that had so perfectly twinned with his voice. She wondered how a purely non-verbal species would have received his music. Would they have felt what she felt just through the radio signal? Something she would learn, in time. Her plan was simple, she’d locate her subject, and deploy a drone to follow him. Wherever he played, her drone would invisibly follow, recording his music in perfect fidelity.
She’d return home, and share his music. Something no-one had heard before, had never experienced, and perhaps, it would make them see, and feel, what she had when hearing it.
The ship pinged, it had located a small heavier than air craft that had a high probability of carrying her quarry. It was moving at less than a third of the local speed of sound, but was being strangely buffeted. The computer flashed warning symbols on sections of the craft. Simple, but not primitive, the craft was perfectly designed for the task it was meant to perform, very good engineering had gone into creating it.
Yet it was failing, structurally, air pressures flowing over it far in excess for which it had been designed, one of this worlds unique weather phenomenon threatening to rip it apart.
Amidst the horror of realizing she was about to witness the death of those individuals who had touched her very soul, she recognized the craft was operating in excess of two hundred percent its designed stress ratings.
It was a toughness that bought a few seconds of thought. Of decision, and rash, perhaps illegal, action.
Digits brushed controls, summoning a hum from the depths of her ship. The fuel capture system was not meant for rescue, in fact, using for anything other than non-living mass was considered a breach of several laws. First and foremost, it was a very focusable disintegration array, making it a terrifying weapon. Secondly, it could collect the energy released by the disintegration and funnel it into storage cells to fuel the engines.
Thirdly, and this was the illegal part, her scoutships sensors could record exactly how the disintegrated matter had been arranged, down to the subatomic level, and the array could be reprogrammed to then reverse the process to convert the captured energy back into the original thing.
Used on an interesting rock, this was fine. On a living being it was murder at best and non-consensual cloning at worst.
Her digit pressed down firmly on the energize symbol that appeared below her hacked override code.

The aircraft finally surrendered to the windsheer pulling at it, fragmenting in a shimmering cloud of metallic fragments that erupt in a fireball as unspent aviation fuel is ignited.
Of the passengers and pilot, no trace was ever found, their deaths mourned by millions, in part for the loss of young people who had given the world such wonderful music, but also the sense of loss at the music they would now never be able to play. A pilot who had changed his beliefs and committed himself to promoting the ones who changed him for the better, a brilliant young singer and songwriter, and a band who could touch souls, lost forever.
The great changes they had been about to unleash would not take place. Or at least, not take place as quickly. The seeds had been planted, as other young people took up their instruments, raised their voices in song, and set out to change hearts and minds their own way.
Over the course of the centuries before Humanity could reach the stars as a single family, a steady stream of visitors dropped by the musical ball of rock. To observe, to listen, to rescue, when the opportunity arose.

2023.05.29 22:07 arguablydickish Haken at the Rickshaw Theater: To those that helped me after I passed out while waiting for the doors to open.
Thank you to Steve and Kyle, the father and son duo, who where there by my side ready to call 911 and thank you to Michael the security member who took over and that helped with making sure I was cognizant and physically ok.
If you have been down on Hastings St in Vancouver, you probably know how sketchy it is. Homelessness, drugs, garbage everywhere. It is a dystopian hellscape in stark difference to the other parts of Vancouver. Not a good environment for someone concert-going by themselves that also suffers from pretty consistent, but usually manageable, anxiety. Leading to the moment, I started remembering the news of people being stabbed and realized that I would be coming out of the concert alone at a much later hour. I became overwhelmed, panicked, lost control of my breathing, and blacked out; falling on the ground and hitting my head on the pavement. I am ok: a bit of a stiff neck and a ton of embarrassment. I consider myself lucky. I awoke to Steve talking to me and Kyle starting to call for an ambulance. Thankfully, I was very responsive. Mike came over quickly and took control. He helped me review my body and short term memory. Honestly, I am super grateful for his presence. I was able to focus on him and calm down quickly. He helped me inside to sit down and recover away from the outside environment, providing water. All I wanted to do was get home. I am super fucking bummed that I missed the concert; I really wanted to purchase merch to support Haken but I was worried about being in a crowd while still recovering....so I left.
I am sure the concert was amazing and I hope those on here that went had a great time! Sucks that this will be probably the only time I will get a chance to see them. I only discovered Haken a month ago and Fauna is on non-stop repeat for me. A fucking masterpiece. I can't wait to see how they progress their sound. Fan for life.
Could someone tell me what the setlist was last night? Were there Fauna LP's for purchase?
Cheers.

2023.05.29 21:56 Think_Interaction_50 All right guys I figured it out: Harper gave Cameron a blowjob when she went up with him
After re-watching season 2 for the 3rd time, I can say I am pretty confident that what happened when Harper and Cameron went up was a blowjob, Mike White is a genius, and the answer was there all along through 3 subtle clues (possibly more).
Clue 1: Episode 6, when Daphne shows up at the breakfast table when Ethan and Harper are arguing Daphne randomly says "Just looking at all those sausages made me want to puke", then the shot immediately switches to Harper, who angrily shoves a butter and jam sandwich (heavy on the butter) in her mouth.
Clue 2: Later on in Episode 6, when Ethan, Harper, and Cameron are on the beach right after the "incident", the shot is of Harper, speaking to Cameron. It is no accident that she happens to be drinking a white creamy drink (piña colada) through a straw, grabbing the straw as it's in her mouth, as she glances over at Ethan. Not only is the drink garnished with a pineapple (if you know you know) there is emphasis on the drink, as Harper goes up to Ethan to offer her drink to him, "do you want to try this it's actually pretty good".
I'm still watching the episode so there might be more hints, but something i've learned from Mike White is there are no accidents, everything is done on purpose. Just wanted to share and if anyone else has other opinions or clues please let me know!
Ok literally seconds after in the same beach scene I just saw another clue
Clue 3: 3 very clear direct shots of Harper eating the pineapple, really savoring it, as Ethan looks at her in dismay.

2023.05.29 21:35 PM_ME_LAWN_GNOMES Men and Women CAN Just Be Friends: An Angry Plea Against Archaic Stereotypes
I'm at my wit's end, and I need to vent. I've been receiving an infuriating amount of comments and assumptions that because I'm close with my brother-in-law, Mike, it must mean we're having an affair. Can you believe this? How did we regress to such antiquated thinking? Why can't people understand that men and women can be just friends?
Mike and I have been friends for years, long before he and my sister got married. We share interests, we talk about everything, including his relationship troubles. And all of a sudden, we're supposedly entangled in some illicit affair?
This is beyond ridiculous, and it's frankly insulting. As if my relationship with Mike, my friend, is some tawdry secret rather than a genuine friendship. Not every relationship has to be romantic or sexual in nature, and it's high time people understood this.
This has gotten me so riled up. It's 2023, people. Can we please normalize platonic relationships between men and women? I am so done with these unfounded accusations!

2023.05.29 21:09 Unable_Secretary8953 Mike Tyson Vs Chimpanzee
Mike Tyson bare knuckled while the chimpanzee has boxing gloves on and can’t take them of.
The Chimpanzee will not be able to grip and use his fingers while wearing the gloves so it’s a big disadvantage for the ape.
Mike Tyson is 5’11 an average chimp is around 4’11 Tyson is a foot taller, very big advantage for him.
Chimpanzees are 3-5 times stronger than the average man but with gloves their strength and grip are very reduced so I’m not certain if they can beat Mike bare knuckled.
Fight takes place in a boxing ring.
