hey everyone! i’m currently planning a trip for my partner and me between mid-end october this year. we'll be flying into Rome and out of Florence. would appreciate some feedback/ideas on our itinerary.
we love history, nature, good food (doesn't have to be fancy - more hearty/homely). we do like wine, but not incredibly well-versed or picky. hit us up too if you have some recommendations for amazing bookstores or libraries in the places we're headed to - Rome, CT, Florence, Tuscany (Val D'Orcia). itinerary below, with some open-ended stuff in italics. thanks so much!
Rome [staying near Vatican museums]
day 1: arrive in Rome @ 0830, leave bags at AirBnB near the Vatican museums. free day to explore (maybe visit the Appian way? or anywhere that we could walk/cycle around to take in the city; some greenery would be nice!)
day 2: early access tour at Vatican with breakfast, explore St Peter’s Square/Basilica in the afternoon/evening
day 3: find an English mass/LTM, visit the Colosseum/Roman Forum
Cinque Terre [staying in Vernazza]
day 4: early train to La Spezia/CT, check in at AirBnB at Vernazza, explore the town for the rest of the day
day 5: early Monterosso<>Vernazza hike, wine tasting/vineyard tour in the afternoon evening (recommendations welcome!)
day 6: pesto making at Nessun Dorma, explore the other towns/more hiking for the rest of the day
Florence [staying near Arcetri]

some questions/recommendations needed:
- is the Colosseum worth the trouble of getting a ticket, or would it suffice to appreciate it from the outside?
- understand that mid-Oct might not be great for swimming in CT - however would it be suitable weather to grab a mat and sit by the water for a picnic and reading?
- we're not huge art nerds but can appreciate the historical context - would you recommend to visit both the Uffizi and Gallerie dell'Accademia in Florence, or other museums like the Galileo Museum for a different experience?
- which routes are best to drive from Florence to Val D'orcia? we're not fussy about which towns to stop over both from/to the Florence airport - just that we only have one driver and would like to minimise too many detours! (we also don't feel the need to visit all the towns in Tuscany)
- any good hiking/cycling recommendations in Val D'orcia?

I've seen people say Russia isn't a developed country but I was recently checking Russia's HDI by cities/Republics and it seems the most developed cities/Republics rank as high as fully developed cities/states in the West.
Even when compared to the most developed states in the US it seems Russia's most developed cities/Republics are as developed as them.
What do yo guys think? Those who have lived in the most developed cities in Russia, when you visit the most developed cities in the West don't you find a lot of difference in terms of quality of life?
Maybe the reason why people say Russia isn't a fully developed country is because of some cities and Republics that haven't been able to develop as much as cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg?

Hi all! The name is Tulsa and the game is roleplaying… that was cringey I know, but just ignore it okay? Okay. Anyways, I’m on the hunt for some new partners (not replacing anyone of course) that are interested in angsty, romantic and, of course, dramatic plots. In said plots I’d prefer to play the F in M/F pairings, it’s just what I’m most comfortable with : ). Aside from that though, I am 24 which means all of my partners NEED to be 18+, there is no wiggle room on this. Please don't lie and say you're of age if you're not, it's dangerous.
We can discuss rules, limits and triggers privately if we decide to move forward, however there is one rule I’ll let you know of now since it puts some people off. I don’t double. I will gladly play multiple side characters, however I will not do one pairing in exchange for another (you playing my love interest and us doing a separate plot where I play yours). I find it hard to focus and they never end up fair in my experience. I hope that makes sense lol.
Right now I’m specifically on the hunt for three fandoms/pairings: Criminal Minds, Stranger Things & Teen Wolf.
In CM I’d be looking for someone to play Spencer Reid opposite of my character, Olivia Chandler. Olivia is a Gale Weathers type if you know Scream at all, but FAR less of a bitch. I think there’s a lot of longevity for this pair as Olivia is afraid of commitment whereas I see Spencer just hesitant when it comes to romance at all, especially if we set this after Maeve. There’s a lot to her backstory that I think could make for an interesting twist a little further along, but we could do different cases and such and it would be fun! As all of my characters do, Olivia has her own backstory written up and available upon request.
While I haven’t watched S4 of ST yet (atp I’m just waiting for S5 to rewatch all of it lol), I know most of what happens, but this plot would take place more of s2-s3 and maybe in an AU space s4. I’d be playing an original character, Nancy and Mike’s troubled cousin from New York, and would want to pair her alongside Billy Hargrove. I think they’re ‘fuck this small town’ attitudes would work well along with other things.
As for Teen Wolf, I’d love for someone to play Derek Hale against my canon-divergent version of Paige Krasikeva. For those who don’t remember, Paige was teenage Derek’s girlfriend who was scratched by an alpha and Derek had to kill himself. In my version, Derek thinks he killed her but Peter brought her back to life and sent her off with her parents who moved. Now she’s back in season 3A as an adult music teacher at the high school with no memories of Derek or werewolves.

Battle of the Kuril Islands
As a result of winning the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the summer of 2023 and regaining most of the lost lands (without Crimea, which fell only in 2024 after negotiations with Admiral Igor Osipov), Russia collapses and many areas declare independence and the rest is ruled by warlords (Siberia, Kuriles, southern Russia eastern parts of European Russia), the Federal government (led by Medvedev, who is still trying to continue Putin's policy) in Moscow and Veliky Novgorod, the national government (a coalition of pro-Western parties, maintained by NATO troops, the areas of Smolensk, Kursk, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Karelia, Vladivostok) and by communist rebellions (mainly Tatarstan and Siberia). All of Russia is in chaos and looks more like Somalia than a civilized country. The Kuriles were occupied by the 810th Marine Brigade, the 4th Mechanized Regiment and many broken coastal and island defense units.
With the help of the US, Japan decided to take over these islands. Izumo, together with several American destroyers, conducted a raid on the southern Kuril islands - Shikotan and Iturup
Operation "Young Boy". April 1, 2024
450 paratroopers and 750 Japanese marines with the help of 20 NAVY SEALs and 50 Rangers conducted the first raid. Several dozen planes took off from the "Izumo" helicopter and amphibious units from the Kunisaki landing ship.
The paratroopers (who had to use helicopters for logistical and operational reasons) overran the radar and the battery of 120mm guns within a few minutes. The first units landed on the southern and northern coasts. After a short fight for the base No. 453 in the north, the units met in the main arsenal of the coastal battery. Then 12 Russian Su-25 planes arrived. After a short bombardment, 2 of them were shot down and escaped.
After 4 hours the island was cleared and garrison units arrived.
Operation Tsar. April 2, 2024
Phase I
1,200 paratroopers and 2,000 Japanese Marines supported by 350 Marines and 5 Abrams M1A2 tanks were to take over Iturup Island. This island was much more important than Shikotan. The airport, many artillery batteries and most importantly - the General Staff of the Onrona Corps of the Kuril Islands. Thanks to the capture of this base, further operations would be won in advance - the Russians would have no chance in defense without the general command.
Phase II
Twelve Japanese F-4s supported by 24 F-16s bombarded the coastal artillery, allowing the US destroyers to get close enough to conduct detailed and accurate fire on the targets. Under cover of gunfire, 1,200 paratroopers (already using cargo planes) landed in the middle of the island. Colonel Imiro Dakahaki decided to attack the airfield directly, instead of guerrilla combat as recommended.
Phase III
American marines, supported by Japanese, landed near the southern naval base. The bloody fights (as one Abrams tank and 120 soldiers were lost) ended with the success of the Americans (400 Russian prisoners and 1200 wounded, about 230 killed). Only then was the alarm raised across the island.
Phase IV
American units separate from the Japanese and lead the offensive to the north. Many times shot at by single units, they reach their goal without much damage. However, the whole airport is on fire, the planes are destroyed and the Russians are still there. It turned out that the Japanese units had been destroyed in the course of the fighting and most of them were dead or prisoners of war.
Phase V
After making sure, American forces stormed the airport. Tired Russian soldiers surrendered after 40 minutes of fighting. The island fell the next day.
Operation "Prostitute in the Doorway"
More than 340 close support aircraft, 130 fighters, 300 multi-role aircraft and 60 bombers bombed the Kuril Islands as part of this operation. The fleet, on the other hand, began blockading the islands. You must be wondering why? When the public opinion learned about the massacre of Japanese units near the airport, they were against further warfare on such a large scale. By November 2024, most of the islands had fallen and eventually the commander of the defense of the Kuril Islands and the civilian administrator of these areas signed the Peace Treaty between the Kuril Islands Army and the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

Eventually, the Japanese agreed to grant autonomy to the islands and release the Russian prisoners with their light weapons. The operations were considered a success and after a UN resolution, these areas were recognized as an "autonomous region of the Empire of Japan".

Navalny, who is now serving a nine-year prison sentence for fraud charges that his supporters dismiss as politically motivated, was arrested upon his arrival at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport in 2021.
Sending a message to his supporters from prison on Sunday, Navalny said that he believed "Telling the truth and upholding justice will become something ordinary and not at all dangerous in Russia."

I would appreciate some advice. My boyfriend told me not to worry about it, but I tend to be overly nice and would like to hear other opinions. My parents who live in Illinois asked me to find them a Shih Tzu after their previous one passed away. I found a breeder in Lecanto, FL, (I live in St Augustine) and they offered delivery and my parents were relieved because they’re in their 70’s. The delivery was successful, but today I learned that the breeder encountered a flat tire in Georgia while driving home and has to stay overnight as it is Sunday and no tire shops were open. The breeder admitted that she did not account for mishaps in the delivery quote. The delivery fee was $1,000, which my parents had already paid. My question is whether we should compensate the breeder for the tire mishap, even though it was not included in the original contract. Btw, she didn’t ask for it but wanted to know what everyone thinks.
