2023.06.08 21:04 abcMF Update on my GRX70QA

I switched out the lipstick alnico II pickup that I had previously installed for a very hot alnico v single coil (9.4k). I also added a kurt cobain tone sticker that 100% affects the tone and a full set of strings which is now missing the high e string (it snapped due to all the tuning and detuning ive been doing in order to work on the guitar). I've got a new graphtec nut coming because my default plastic nut is hanging on by a thread (I hope, usps said it was delivered but mail person never came to my house so im just hoping its delayed by a day) still rocking the GFTron Modern Lead in the neck and the GFS Fat PAT in the bridge. I really like that combination, I'm still working on getting the pickup heights where I want them, especially for the single coil, they seem way more finicky than the humbuckers. I've also got a pickup selector shield that says unholy 💀 holy, unholy being the bridge and holy being the neck coming in as well Anyways, that's it for now. If anyone has any other cool mod suggestions for me I'll listen it doesn't matter if they're redundant or not. I'm just having fun with it.

2023.06.08 21:04 ApologeticAnalMagic The Last Revelation was a ridiculous step up in comparison to the previous entries.

I used to love TR3. Just replayed it recently, and honestly, it annoyed me much more than I expected. Did not love the levels as much as I used to, did not love the murky textures that make everything a pain to look at (I mean this on an actual physical level, the amount of strain I had to put on my eyes to make out a medipack from the ground was ridiculous), did not love the small annoyances that come with a game this old (you can't look while swinging from monkey bars without lara moving, you can't turn corners while shimmying, you can't turn left or right while sprinting, some ledges you don't grab just because the game decides you can't grab them, etc.), all in all, just did not care for it nearly as much as I used to.
Funny thing is, I think TR2 still holds up on account of it being so old that it's retro, the textures are bright instead of murky, the levels are interesting and everything breathes. And the level design is tight af. TR3 just falls in that weird middle ground, same traps, same weapons, just more of everything but with the added bonus of much more obtuse puzzles and genuinely confusing texture work.
Now enter The Last Revelation, and holy shit it's night and day. This is probably the definitive experience when it comes to the classic games. The textures are just insanely improved (I mean in terms of definition and adding interest to areas, of course the graphics are still old as all hell, but who cares about that), much clearer, brighter, easier to look at, and generally crisper. The mechanics have been tightened considerably, to the point where I feel like most of my complaints from 3 were adressed, level design is top notch, and so many things were added to make up a dynamic and interesting gaming experience, it really did innovate a whole ton without actually breaking free from the same engine. Rope swinging, ground levers, high wall levers, pulling rope switches, combining items, rotating whole rooms, even a game of Senet, flyby cameras, the crowbar, torches, I could go on, it just innovated like crazy compared to the previous 3. Even the puzzles were a major improvement, finally it's not just about finding some type of key stand-in object or pulling some levers/pressing some buttons. The puzzles in this game are much closer to what you would find in a more modern game. And for the 1st time, the story actually makes sense without me having to decifer the cutscenes lmao this is a nitpick, the game where I think the story is the hardest to follow on account of there not beign much of it is the 3rd one. The problem has always been the cutscene quality hindering the communication of the story imo I've known these games since I was a child so I know the stories anyway, but I always felt like they were poorly communicated. Not here, though, it feels coherent at last. Maybe I just haven't gotten to the egypt fatigue stage of the game yet, but so far, top grade.

2023.06.08 21:03 Potential_Initial_70 Seeking Advice To Know If Weight Loss is Necessary

(new account just because this is a throwaway)
16F, 5’5, and 243 pounds. Just found out my bmi is 40.4 and I’m over 100 pounds more than my maximum healthy weight
While I don’t care about weight loss personally as I love baking and sweets more, I’m curious if people here can provide info on if I should lose weight for health reasons? Idk I feel like people older than me could provide a wise outlook on what I should do
Idk I know this sounds stupid because I’m obviously fat I guess I’m just asking if it’s necessary to lose weight or if I can just continue life without it?

2023.06.08 21:00 MenuHeavy6327 Looking for some guidance for my upcoming trip

Hey everyone, so I was looking for some of your advise in regards to the trip I plan on doing later today. I was planning on doing a 3.5 g dose of penis envy. I’ve done 2 trips before. The first one was 3.6 grams (a little spread out tho) of Texas Orange caps. The 2nd was a chocolate bar 3.5 grams. Not sure the strain but the chocolate bar was called Myc Tysons punch out bars. I didn’t really tweak or anything during these trips I was actually fascinated and just vibing. I know PE’s are more potent but I wonder how much more than these other strains. Do you guys think it is too much? Also, I want to know what time I should take them. It is 3:00 pm and I like tripping at night because I got cool lights in my room but I don’t want it to run too late. What would be the perfect time to hit that sweet spot?

2023.06.08 21:00 guufull The Rise of Smoke-Free Countries: A Glimpse into the Present and Future

Hey Reddit community,
I wanted to take a moment to discuss the exciting progress being made around the world towards becoming smoke-free countries. With the increasing awareness of the harmful effects of smoking and the growing demand for healthier environments, several nations have taken significant steps to create smoke-free spaces and implement stringent tobacco control measures.
Let's start by looking at some of the countries that have already achieved the status of being completely smoke-free. These nations have implemented comprehensive smoking bans and have successfully reduced smoking rates among their populations. Notable examples include:
  1. Bhutan: This small Himalayan kingdom was the first country in the world to completely ban the sale and consumption of tobacco products. It has prioritized the health and well-being of its citizens by promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle.
  2. Iceland: Iceland has implemented strict anti-smoking laws, including a comprehensive ban on smoking in public places and workplaces. It has made remarkable progress in reducing smoking rates and creating a smoke-free environment for its residents.
  3. Ireland: Ireland's journey towards becoming smoke-free began with the implementation of a workplace smoking ban in 2004. Since then, it has expanded its efforts to include a ban on smoking in bars, restaurants, and other public spaces. Today, Ireland boasts one of the lowest smoking rates in Europe.
Now, let's turn our attention to the future and explore some countries that are actively working towards becoming smoke-free. These nations have introduced ambitious tobacco control measures and are making significant strides in their efforts to create a healthier, smoke-free environment. Some examples include:
  1. New Zealand: With its vision to be smoke-free by 2025, New Zealand has implemented a range of initiatives, including increasing tobacco taxes, restricting tobacco sales, and providing smoking cessation support. The country is committed to reducing smoking rates and improving the overall well-being of its population.
  2. Australia: Australia has consistently been at the forefront of tobacco control efforts. It has implemented plain packaging laws, increased tobacco taxes, and introduced graphic warning labels on cigarette packs. These measures have contributed to a decline in smoking rates and have paved the way for Australia's goal of becoming a smoke-free nation.
  3. Finland: Finland aims to be tobacco-free by 2040. The country has implemented a comprehensive tobacco control strategy, which includes smoking bans, tobacco taxation, and support for smoking cessation programs. Finland's proactive approach demonstrates its commitment to creating a smoke-free future for its citizens.
It's inspiring to see countries around the world prioritizing public health and taking bold steps towards becoming smoke-free. These initiatives not only protect individuals from the harmful effects of smoking but also contribute to reducing the burden of smoking-related diseases on healthcare systems.
What are your thoughts on the progress made by these smoke-free countries? Do you believe that other nations should follow suit? Let's discuss and share our perspectives on this important global movement.
Note: This post is meant to highlight the achievements and ongoing efforts of various countries towards becoming smoke-free. It is essential to research and verify the specific tobacco control measures implemented by each country mentioned.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and insights!

2023.06.08 21:00 Lost_Judgment2302 31 [M4F] #WestCovina- Handsome goofball looking for game night, movie night, and cuddle buddies

Where to start? A little about me:
I'm 6'2", 220ish, growing out my light brown hair, green eyes, light beard, tatted. Very hygienic and often smelling great, confident but not too cocky, often trying to make those around me smile and laugh. Passions for playing and writing music, cooking meals for those I love, and animals, all the animals.
I know carpentry, welding, sleight of hand, landscaping and gardening, massage therapy, how to survive in the wild with only a backpacks worth of things. I have many hobbies and often am trying to learn new things. Currently learning how to crochet, but I also paint, sketch, pottery, and diy. I love gaming, and that includes video games but also my board game collection and card games, traditional, trading, and drinking.
Polyamorous for two years now. I actually met a partner on Reddit after I posted an ad like this and she responded with a lengthy and well thought out response(please take note). I met my other partner 8 months ago on feeld and quickly she became close to the two of us. Now we're all practically inseparable, although the girls do not date each other(yet, I always say), they prefer to date just me and share their time.
I'm home during the day by myself mostly while the girls are each at work or school. But in the evenings and on the weekends we're all usually curled up on the couch together or going out and getting into shenanigans. Big fans of shopping runs, especially for things none of us need, going to the beach, hitting a local bar and playing pool, but more often than not you'll catch us inside, just enjoying each other's company. I can confidently say those two are the best of friends, and I'm just trying to share this experience with others.
Now, I want to be clear, none of this is about looking for sex or anything of that nature. But all of us identify as polyamorous, both of them identify as bisexual(demisexual), and I'm not opposed to things taking a natural turn.
I broke my foot recently so I don't really drive anymore, but I can always host. If you've made it all the way down to the end I'm excited to meet you. Send me a chat and let's see if we're close enough to meet up. Sending a face pic goes a long way.

2023.06.08 20:59 CatchWild2808 Nonstop rectal (internal) discomfort - please help me :(

So I guess here I am about to make one of these. The amount of inquiries & information on here sometimes has me questioning just how much of this problem is psychological. There is most certainly a physical component of it.
Here goes:
I am a 32 year old Caucasian (figured maybe it would be worth mentioning) male. I am very active and in great physical shape, muscular build with very low body fat and have a good diet (or so I think?)
Sexual orientation: Straight (mentioning only for medical clarification.)
Medication: None other than benefiber and vitamins). Took Accutane when young for 4 years. (From 14-18) back in 2004.
Diet:
First meal: chicken breast, half cup oats, half avocado.
Second meal: chicken breast half cup oats half avocado.
Third meal: post workout protein shake with half cup plain oats avocado.
Fourth meal: whole plain Greek yogurt and half cup plain oats.
Through trial and error I’ve found the oats to be easily digested and help me have (which I do like clockwork every day) a morning bowel movement.
My problem is as follows:
The discomfort begins and builds daily. Everyday it seems to almost reset (pain level wise) and progressively gets worse throughout the day. After my regular morning bm (which I’ll mention is always segmented. I use the toilet a few times where I’ll get up and sit back down to avoid hemorrhoids which have plagued me in the past, and I’ve gotten better at handling through understanding of what they are.
If I could describe the feeling of the sensation it’s a feeling like something is always in there with accompanying burning depending how I’m seated. The problem generally is exacerbated by sitting down AND working out. I have really dialed back my efforts in the gym as a result and confirmed with my doctor (on the same scale) that I’ve lost 25 lbs in about a year and a half. It is alarming but he said I’m a better bmi now so I’m trying to look at the glass half full.
One thing I’ve been putting more focus on lately is my use of a daily Enema. I use a fleet enema, empty out the solution and put warm water in there. I switched to bottled purified due to fear of the water source/chlorination and the corresponding dryness I’m experiencing. I was concerned about doing this so I ran it by 3 different healthcare professionals and they all validated using the Enema with plain water daily*. I was a bit surprised by this as I was almost hoping they would tell me to stop.
I started using the Enema so that I could focus more at work and get my business out of the way without having to deal the the uncomfortableness/pain of incomplete evacuation. I have read mixed things online about regular* enemas and their safety. I’m concerned it may be drying me out. I tried to use a suppository for the first time and was so alarmed at how dry it was inside me It was hard to slide in. This was a turning point.
Today is day 2 of no enemas and I’m getting emotional just writing this because of how psychologically dependent I’ve become on them I suppose. Two days and 9 years ago I stopped drinking alcohol. I was hurting myself and I was in denial. (Not everyday drinker but reoccurring black outer.) I thought it would be an appropriate day to kick a new addiction.
Yesterday was hard both physically and mentally. The physical aspect made it even harder on me mentally because it made me question whether the Enema has a legitimate function in helping me.
Ending questions:
Is doing a daily Enema with purified water OK?
If the damage is done and I should stop, what must I do to rehabilitate myself (restoring good bacteria etc.)
How long would it take to feel normal again physically?
Does this seem wrong and perhaps I’m experiencing something else?
The last thing I’m going to post is these pieces I found in my stool. My primary care physician told me it was just undigested food but it doesn’t look like like anything I ate (diet listed above is uniform without change for months. (Oh shoot it won’t let me haha Reddit noob here - I have the photo if anyone wants it? )
Thank you in advance to anyone with expertise in this area, what an amazing resource!

2023.06.08 20:58 TangerineOld2284 Altered Beast but a Puzzle Game?

So what if altered best was a puzzle game where you first start as the beginning character and can kill enemies to level up, and every time you finish a world or something you can unlock a new ability which can help you do more puzzles.
Examples: The werewolf can use the dash to get past longer jumps and use his projectile to easily kill enemies, or the dragon can fly to get around tight rooms, as well as use electricity to kill enemies.
However, to somewhat balance the power ups you need some form of collectable, and ever second or so the collectable will go down and when it goes under 1, you'll go back to whatever level you were at.
Also, I think the health bar from the original game will stay the same, I was thinking about alternatives, but I think the original is good.
Not sure what mechanics I could think of for the puzzles but whatever.

9 Best Health Benefits of Consuming Walnuts

https://preview.redd.it/n85adwr5bu4b1.jpg?width=1014&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66c88686910b6cf49110a7bf1e0da6e8669ffb31
Walnuts are not only delicious but also packed with numerous health benefits. Here are nine of the best health benefits of consuming walnuts:
  1. Heart health: Walnuts are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is an omega-3 fatty acid. These fats help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
  2. Brain health: The omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts, especially ALA, are beneficial for brain health. They support cognitive function, memory, and may help reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia.
  3. Anti-inflammatory properties: Walnuts contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that help reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is linked to various health conditions, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
  4. Weight management: Despite being calorie-dense, walnuts can be beneficial for weight management. The combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats in walnuts helps keep you full for longer, reducing cravings and overeating.
  5. Cancer-fighting properties: Walnuts contain several bioactive compounds, including antioxidants and polyphenols, which have been associated with a reduced risk of certain types of cancer, such as breast and prostate cancer.
  6. Blood sugar control: Walnuts have a low glycemic index and are rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats. These properties contribute to improved blood sugar control, making them a suitable choice for individuals with diabetes or those at risk of developing it.
  7. Improved gut health: Walnuts are a good source of dietary fiber, which supports a healthy digestive system and promotes regular bowel movements. Additionally, walnuts contain prebiotic properties that nourish beneficial gut bacteria.
  8. Bone health: Walnuts are a natural source of several minerals important for bone health, including calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Consuming walnuts as part of a balanced diet may contribute to maintaining strong and healthy bones.
  9. Skin health: The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in walnuts can promote healthy skin. They help protect against oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and support collagen production, which contributes to skin elasticity and a youthful appearance.
Remember that while walnuts offer numerous health benefits, they are also calorie-dense. It's important to consume them in moderation as part of a well-balanced diet.
  • What are 5 benefits of eating walnuts?
Certainly! Here are five key benefits of eating walnuts:
  1. Heart health: Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to improve heart health. The healthy fats found in walnuts help reduce LDL cholesterol levels and decrease the risk of heart disease.
  2. Brain function: The omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants in walnuts are beneficial for brain health. They can improve cognitive function, memory, and concentration. Regular consumption of walnuts may also help reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.
  3. Weight management: Despite being calorie-dense, walnuts can aid in weight management. The combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats in walnuts helps you feel fuller for longer, reducing overeating and cravings.
  4. Antioxidant properties: Walnuts are packed with antioxidants that help protect the body against harmful free radicals. These antioxidants can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, which are associated with chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
  5. Nutrient-rich: Walnuts are a nutrient-dense food, providing a wide range of essential vitamins and minerals. They are particularly high in vitamin E, magnesium, and copper. These nutrients play crucial roles in supporting overall health, including immune function and bone health.
Incorporating walnuts into your diet can provide these benefits, but it's important to consume them in moderation, as they are calorie-dense. A recommended serving size is about 1 ounce (28 grams) per day, which is equivalent to approximately 7 whole walnuts.
  • What happens if we eat walnuts daily?
Eating walnuts daily can have several positive effects on your health. Here are some potential outcomes of incorporating walnuts into your daily diet:
  1. Improved heart health: The healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids, in walnuts can help lower LDL cholesterol levels, reduce inflammation, and improve overall heart health. Regular consumption of walnuts has been associated with a reduced risk of heart disease.
  2. Enhanced brain function: The omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants found in walnuts are beneficial for brain health. They can support cognitive function, memory, and concentration. Eating walnuts daily may help protect against neurodegenerative diseases and age-related cognitive decline.
  3. Weight management: Despite being calorie-dense, walnuts can be beneficial for weight management when eaten in moderation. The combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats in walnuts helps promote satiety, reducing the likelihood of overeating and aiding in weight control.
  4. Antioxidant protection: Walnuts are rich in antioxidants, such as polyphenols and vitamin E, which help protect the body against oxidative stress and inflammation. Regular consumption of walnuts may contribute to overall antioxidant protection and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
  5. Nutrient intake: Walnuts are a nutrient-dense food, providing essential vitamins, minerals, and beneficial plant compounds. They are particularly rich in vitamin E, magnesium, copper, and other nutrients. Including walnuts in your daily diet can help ensure you receive a variety of important nutrients.
However, it's essential to remember that walnuts are also high in calories. While they offer numerous health benefits, it's important to consume them in moderation and consider their caloric content as part of your overall daily calorie intake. A recommended serving size is about 1 ounce (28 grams) per day, which is roughly equivalent to 7 whole walnuts.
  • How many walnuts should you eat in a day?
The recommended serving size for walnuts is about 1 ounce, which is equivalent to approximately 28 grams or 7 whole walnuts. This serving size is considered appropriate for reaping the health benefits of walnuts without consuming excessive calories.
However, it's important to note that individual dietary needs may vary. If you have specific health conditions or dietary restrictions, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian who can provide personalized guidance based on your unique circumstances.
Additionally, while walnuts are nutritious, they are calorie-dense. Consuming large quantities of walnuts can lead to an excessive calorie intake, which may impact weight management. Moderation is key when incorporating walnuts or any food into your daily diet.
  • What happens if we eat 10 walnuts daily?
Eating 10 walnuts daily can still be within a reasonable range, but it's important to consider the calorie content and overall dietary balance. Here are some potential effects:
  1. Nutrient intake: Eating 10 walnuts provides a good amount of beneficial nutrients, including healthy fats, protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Walnuts are particularly rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, magnesium, and copper. Consuming this amount can contribute to meeting your nutrient needs.
  2. Heart health: Walnuts are known for their heart-healthy properties due to their high content of omega-3 fatty acids. Consuming 10 walnuts daily can further support heart health by helping to lower LDL cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
  3. Caloric intake: It's important to be mindful of the calorie content of walnuts. Ten walnuts can provide approximately 185-200 calories, depending on their size. While walnuts are nutrient-dense, excessive calorie intake from any food source can contribute to weight gain if it exceeds your overall daily calorie needs.
  4. Weight management: Eating 10 walnuts daily, along with a balanced diet and regular physical activity, is unlikely to cause weight gain on its own. However, if the additional calories from walnuts are not offset by reducing calories from other sources or increasing physical activity, it could contribute to a caloric surplus and potentially impact weight management.
Remember, everyone's nutritional needs and calorie requirements differ based on factors such as age, sex, activity level, and overall health. It's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian who can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific needs and goals.
  • Which time is best to eat walnut?
There isn't a specific time of day that is universally considered the best to eat walnuts. You can include walnuts in your diet at any time that suits your preference and fits well within your overall meal plan. Here are a few suggestions:
  1. As a snack: Walnuts can be a nutritious and satisfying snack option. You can have them as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack to keep your energy levels stable and stave off hunger.
  2. With breakfast: Adding walnuts to your breakfast can provide a boost of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Consider sprinkling chopped walnuts on top of oatmeal, yogurt, or adding them to your smoothie or cereal.
  3. In salads: Walnuts can add a delightful crunch and nutty flavor to salads. Toss them into your salad for added texture and nutrition.
  4. In baking or cooking: Walnuts can be incorporated into various recipes, such as baked goods, granola bars, or as a topping for roasted vegetables. They can enhance the taste and nutritional profile of your meals.
Ultimately, the best time to eat walnuts is when it aligns with your personal preferences and dietary habits. Just remember to consume them in moderation, as they are calorie-dense. Aim for the recommended serving size of about 1 ounce (28 grams) or adjust the quantity based on your specific dietary needs and goals.
  • Who should not eat walnuts?
While walnuts are generally considered safe and nutritious for most people, there are a few situations in which certain individuals may need to exercise caution or avoid consuming walnuts:
  1. Nut allergies: Walnuts are a common allergen. If you have a known allergy to tree nuts, including walnuts, it is essential to avoid them completely to prevent allergic reactions. Nut allergies can range from mild to severe, and even small amounts can trigger an allergic response.
  2. Gallbladder issues: Some individuals with gallbladder problems, such as gallstones or gallbladder disease, may experience discomfort or digestive symptoms after consuming high-fat foods, including walnuts. If you have such conditions, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian for personalized guidance.
  3. Digestive issues: Walnuts, like other nuts, can be hard to digest for some individuals, particularly those with digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In these cases, consuming walnuts might lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, including bloating, gas, or abdominal pain. It's best to listen to your body and adjust your intake accordingly.
  4. Medication interactions: Some medications, such as blood thinners, may interact with the omega-3 fatty acids in walnuts. If you are taking any medications or have concerns about potential interactions, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider for guidance.
As always, if you have specific health concerns or dietary restrictions, it is advisable to seek personalized advice from a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian to determine whether walnuts are suitable for your individual circumstances.

2023.06.08 20:58 Frox00 Looking to start out with active bookshelf speakers - Triangle LN01A or Kanto YU6?

Hey, I'm looking to get started with some active bookshelf speakers and I'm mainly looking at the Triangle LN01A and Kanto YU6, because I've found deals for them at roughly ~$400 and they both seem solid. They look pretty comparable specs-wise so I'm not sure which one might be a better fit (or maybe it's neither?). Some context:
• This is for the living room of my house (about 300 sq ft). I'll use it mainly for music but I'll also connect them to a TV for movies occasionally. I have a turntable but I'm most interested in streaming
• The idea is to move whatever I purchase up to my office a while from now, when I have a better idea of how to configure a passive system in this space. The layout is a little odd and I'll have to position whatever I get on the sides of my fireplace. I'll also note that the mantle is crazy small at only 8.5" deep, so it looks like anything worth getting will have to be put on stands. So that's an additional expense here
• I will not be getting a sub right away but it's an option for the near future if it would really help
• My overall budget is ~$650
Like I said, I'm leaning toward the 2 in the title after my research but I'm open to suggestions. I just know I want something better than my Megaboom speaker and my old sound bar now that I'm in a new space lol

2023.06.08 20:56 Life__Long__Learner Best practices for writing testable ES6 modules

Hello All,
I have a question around best practices for writing testable ES6 modules. Namely, how can one achieve isolation of a function where one module's function calls another function within the same module.
NOTE!! I have not tested this code. It's for demo purposes only. Please do not put it in your production site.
Take the example below.
// example.js
export function foo() { bar(); } export function bar() { console.log('but get this'); }

And a test written in jest
// example.test.js
import jest from 'jest'; import {foo, bar} from 'example.js' test('It should mock bar', () => { bar();// output: 'but get this' bar = jest.fn(() => console.log('expecting this'));// Error: cannot override read only property bar expect(bar).toHaveBeenCalled();// Never runs, because... the Error });
This highlights the general issue I've observed across all testing frameworks I've looked at (Mocha, Jest, and Node.js test runner). Because bar is a read only property it cannot be stubbed.

This can be avoided by stubbing the entire module such as below.

// example2.js
function foo() { bar(); } function bar() { console.log('but get this'); } export default { foo, bar }

// example2.test.js
import jest from 'jest'; import module from 'example.js' jest.mock('example.js'); test('It should mock bar', () => { bar();// output: 'but get this' module.bar = jest.fn(() => console.log('expecting this'));// no more error! bar();// output: 'expecting this' Yay! expect(bar).toHaveBeenCalled();//output: 'but get this' WHAT!?!?! });
Hopefully this accurately highlights the issue I have. In the example above we are able to stub bar "In the test files scope", but the second we call one of the non-stubbed modules it will see the version of "bar" that exists within it's own modules scope! Therefore, bar cannot (as far as I have found) be mocked, stubbed, or spied on.
No, this isn't my first time using modules and, yes, I understand how they are scoped. My question is concerned with whether there is way around it and, if not, why isn't there?
So, what's the big deal random reddit guy? Just let the function run, it's only a console.log statement. Those are everywhere. And you are correct other reddit guy, guyet, or gyu. But consider one more example
// example3.js
function foo() { bar(); } function bar() { fetch('/really/large/dataset?q=over9000')// <- Ha } export default { foo, bar }
Now does my point become clear? We now have a side-effect from bar() that halts testing and leads to inconsistent tests.
So, finally my much anticipated question for those of you who are still awake.
  1. How in the #@!jd#4$% can I stub bar in this example?
  2. Should I stub bar in this example?
  3. If we cannot isolate a function is it still a unit test?
  4. Yes, you could just stub fetch, I know. But, what if bar calls 20 different 3rd party apis for some reason? It'd be better in that case to just stub bar() instead of all 20 calls.
  5. Is there something inherently wrong with this code? I see no issue with it, but it's so hard to test I'm starting to think there is.
  6. Should ES6 modules have a better way of dealing with this?
  7. Thank you for reading?

2023.06.08 20:55 CheezyBeard2 Beard oil...bar?

Hey there bearded brothers. I know there are beard balms, but does that count as a liquid with the TSA? I was curious if anybody knew any beard oil bars? I will have a shampoo bar and all but the oil is where I'm not sure about in my bag.

2023.06.08 20:54 ecptop I was flying by an area and saw a boss but he disappeared, was this intended?

Repost because I realized my original title may spoil people.
Without spoiling too much can someone help me? I was up on some islands by the zora domain, I made a flying bike and started heading towards the sky tower by the zora. On the way I saw a big 3 headed fire dragon below so I decided to check him out.
On my way down he flew up to me, pretty high into the air. I shot him with a few bomb arrows and a boss health bar popped up. I was like oh, alright let's fight. Dropped to the ground and waited for him to come down and he never came down, just stayed super high in the air for a few minutes. I looked away for like a second then looked back to spot him and he was gone.
Hes never reappeared and I even waited for a blood moon and went back and can't seem to find him. I'm kinda bummed because I really wanted to fight him. Did my game glitch or am I missing something and I'll stumble upon him later.
