Soul Society is known to be Bleach's most iconic and popular arc which is what elevated the series to great heights but at the same time it is what eventually ruined the series, let me explain.
So the first major arc Soul Society, is where the main cast goes to an unknown territory where they have to rescue their beloved friend Rukia which lead to many iconic moments of the series such as Ichigo's bankai and his fight against Byakuya. But with it also came the popularity of the captains and Aizen himself.
The captains were so popular that they overtook the main cast in terms of popularity. But the most beloved character was the main antagonist himself Aizen Sosuke who is arguably the one who attracted most of the new fans to Bleach and was the reason why Bleach is as popular as it is today which isn't a stretch to say since the sales of the series went down after Aizen's defeat, but that is another thing.
The issue is that now Kubo and his editors brought the captains to the spotlight while the main cast was mostly benched in the background not allowing them to grow. And to make the captains relevant Kubo had to create antagonists for each of the captain to have a battle against for the sake of fanservice which lead the series to have a bloated cast of characters. Due to this the arcs kept on dragging which made the arcs a bit boring. This was also the reason why TYBW arc had such a rushed ending despite being 200 chapters long and it was due to the captain fights which took too much time and hence when it was time for Ichigo to take the spotlight the time had already run out for Kubo and lead to a very rushed ending.
The second issue was that Kubo was trying to recreate Soul Society in a much larger scale due to its immense success which was Hueco Mundo arc. This again made the story feel repetitive. I personally enjoyed the arrancar invasion arc more than Hueco Mundo arc due to this.
Of course the Soul Society introduced us to Aizen who became an icon for Bleach later on and he is the only thing that I loved in the later arcs. Honestly he is what attracted me to the series and I feel like most of the viewers lost interest after his defeat.
In short Soul Society was a good arc and made Bleach so popular but it also changed the series and took it in a different direction than what it was meant to be imo.

The Tough Reality of Running an Independent Retail Shop in Downtown Everett [LONG!]

It's been just over two years since my wife and I opened the doors at Chai Cupboard, our loose leaf tea and spice shop in downtown Everett, and I thought it would be a good time to share how things are going for our little mom and pop shop. Can we call ourselves a mom and pop shop if we're only in our 40s? Whatever, I'm going for it.
In short: It has been and continues to be difficult!

Starting up

Let's start with what it took just to open our doors. We spent about $32,000 of our own money (no investments, no loans) to start up. This included things like buying the initial inventory, all our jars and other supplies, furniture, and putting in new flooring.
Finding a good location in downtown Everett was a challenge. It seemed like every space we looked at was either way too large (2,000+ square feet), way too expensive ($2,000+ a month), or both. The space we eventually landed in is around 1,100 square feet and costs us just under $1,800 a month. Plus electricity and gas. Plus parking. Plus basic building maintenance, repairs, and real estate taxes. You would think that those last few things should be the responsibility of the landlord that owns the building, but this particular landlord owns such a large portion of downtown Everett that they are able to dictate the terms of the lease to dramatically favor them and there's basically nothing you can do about it. Fun!

Keeping the lights on

Okay, so let's talk about ongoing costs. All together, running the shop five days a week, we need to make about $100 a day in profit to pay our basic bills. That means we need around $200 a day in sales to break even after paying for our inventory and other supplies. So far in 2023 we're making an average of $117 per day in sales. That's up from $100 per day during the same period in 2022, but still far short of where we need to be in order just to break even—and these figures are with no employees, just us (mostly my wife) running the shop entirely by ourselves. If we wanted to hire just a single employee at $20 an hour for 20 hours a week, the wages, taxes, and other costs would add up to another $2,000 a month or more than $100 a day.
All of this means that we're putting about another $1,500 into the shop every month out of our pocket to keep the doors open. To date we have made around $55,000 in revenue, but spent a total of about $128,000, meaning that over $70,000 has come directly out of our pocket to try to make this work.

Expanding our horizons

Since it has been difficult selling enough loose-leaf tea and spices to make ends meet, we have been working on a few different ideas to try to bring in more money. The biggest of these plans was to open a full tea bar, serving things like tea lattes and iced tea. Unfortunately, our space is not equipped with the proper kitchen to obtain the necessary permits from the health department.
Our landlord was open to letting us pay to upgrade their space (how generous of them!) and we were able to get a grant from the city for about $16,000 that we thought would cover the plumbing improvements and appliances we would need. Unfortunately again, once we opened up the walls we discovered that the existing drainage was nowhere near sufficient for the amount of sinks the health department requires. Fixing this would require considerably more work than we originally expected, including cutting a trench into the concrete floor. Between the extra drainage work and the extreme inflation that ratcheted up the cost of everything else while we tried to figure it all out, the total cost of the project ballooned to over $50,000. We applied for a second grant in hopes of still moving forward, but were denied. So the full tea bar idea is dead unless we find a whole new location with a proper restaurant kitchen, which would of course have much higher rent, somewhat negating the benefit of opening the tea bar at all.

Thankfully as long as we only serve hot tea in a to-go cup, we are not classified by the health code as a "food establishment," so we can still do that without all of the extra sinks. We have been able to set up three tea brewers on a custom stand that I built out of hardwood, and at least provide a basic cup of tea to-go.

Building the physical and digital space

Speaking of building furniture, the shop has given me a good excuse to spend some quality time with my woodworking tools. I built our custom shelves that hold all the jars, as well as the custom main counter, and I'm quite pleased with how they all turned out.

Surprisingly, building physical objects like the furniture has been easier than building things in the digital space. While we have had a basic website set up since before we opened, building a proper online shop has been a bit of a pain. Aside from the challenge of synchronizing all of our inventory with an online storefront, to get it properly set up we need to take individual photos of all 200+ of the teas and spices we sell, which is a daunting task.
Once we do get the online side of the store set up with all the photos, another idea we've had to increase sales is to set up a tea sampler subscription box, but the economics of subscription boxes is pretty rough. There are competitors in the space that sell a tea box for $20 that includes shipping. It would be difficult for us to make and ship a box of teas for less than $20 in actual cost to us.

So, what's next?

We have really enjoyed running the shop, learning more about teas and spices, and meeting all the lovely people who have come in over the past two years. To date we have had nearly 2,000 customers, about 25% of which are repeat customers. We have had zero problems with crime, and only one unpleasant run-in with an individual having a drug-induced psychotic episode. Downtown Everett is a great location, and we love the increasing number of events that are happening downtown like Sorticulture, Salty Sea Days, and the Wintertide Festival & Market.
We're convinced that our shop is a valuable addition to Everett, but it's tough to keep pouring thousands of dollars into it every single month, and to be so far away from even being able to hire a single person to help out. It is beginning to feel like running a small independent retail shop in downtown Everett may not be viable with the current cost of rent, lack of significant downtown foot traffic, and most people's default mode of shopping online first. We've still got over a year on our current lease, so we're going to continue trying to make this work, but looking around at the other businesses downtown, it's easy to see why they're mostly restaurants, breweries/bars, coffee shops, or retailers who have been around forever and own their own building.
And of course, I haven't even mentioned the other big complicating factor: In just a few weeks we're having a baby! This means we're going to have to dramatically cut back how many hours the shop is even open, due to the aforementioned inability to afford to hire any additional help.

2023.06.05 08:34 Pleasant_Meat503 I need some advice on what to do about trading in my car. I am in a dilemma, and I don’t know what the right thing to do is.

About 7 months ago, I bought my first car for $14K. The sales person took advantage of me & lied to me about many different aspects of the car. For example, a week after I bought the car, the bumper flew off while I was driving, and the dealership said tough luck. I later fixed it and found out the bumper was only held on underneath by duct tape and screws when that happened.
The bigger issue though is that about two weeks after I bought the vehicle, I noticed some transmission issues, and I looked up the car and saw that it was in a class action lawsuit for the bad transmission. Fixing the car would cost me anywhere from $4K to $5K, and I don’t have that kind of money anymore after putting a down payment down on this vehicle.
I decided I am going to trade my car in this week, so I went to a dealership today, and they said want to give me $9K for my car, which is the high end on the Kelly blue book suggested amount. However, the salesman did not drive my car, and there are no warning lights to indicate that my car has any engine issues. My salesman likely does not know of the issue just by doing a light inspection. (Just for reference, I went to another place that did drive my car, and they offered me $7K after noticing the transmission.) My salesman also did not ask me if anything was wrong with the car either. I was ready to tell him my story about the transmission, but he didn’t ask me the history. He told me his business is pretty new, so maybe he just doesn’t know about this specific car problem and how it presents itself? I am not sure, but I feel like I need to tell him about the condition of the vehicle.
I’m dropping my car off on Friday to pick up my new car, but I feel so guilty. Do you guys think it is morally wrong to not say anything? I don’t know what to do about this. What would you do? My family says this is just something the salesman deals with in his business, and I shouldn’t be worried for not saying anything. They are no catholic, so I am not sure if I would feel okay just not saying anything. Thank you in advance for your advice.

I'm looking into becomming a teacher for a remote town, in a national Forest. There is no available housing for over an hour drive. In the community , a few individuals own parcels, surounded by either logging companies, national forest or the local tribal trust. Is there any way to get the government to change this? There are literally no new construction since the 1970 (federal Land Act of 1976) Is there a way to pittition for more housing for the community? Drive thru 'town' , long the highway, you see a house with 4 trailers/ camper crammed into a half acre, then an acre of brush, then a double wide, surround by a cluster of campers. Four families squeeze together, because there is no land for sale. Or If I just put a tiny house down on an 'empty' spot, how much trouble could I get in?

Hey Reddit,
Using a throwaway account just in case, but I could use some advice and I just have zero idea of what to do/how to not get totally screwed over.
The tl;dr: My spouse is an alcoholic manchild, we own property & have a kid, and I want a divorce because I just can’t do this anymore. I’m worried I’ll get f**ked over during the divorce.
So, the long version: My husband (40M) and I (35F) have been married for 7 years, and have a 6yo child.
Having my child was the best thing that I could have done, but I have very much come to regret marrying her father. While we both drank when we met (I was working in the bar industry at the time), I quit during the pregnancy. While I did drink somewhat after, I kept it pretty low-key. I left the industry for a different career path recently so I could have something more stable for my child.
My spouse, however, has just kept getting worse with his drinking. In 2020 we both had a rough year (my work vanished while his picked up), but we managed to buy a house in our city (not a cheap thing, but it was the only opportunity we would have had to land it). It got to the point that he went to rehab at the end of the year, leaving me and our daughter alone for the holidays.
By then, it was already pretty obvious that he wasn’t going to stop on his own, and I supported his choice to go. Sobriety lasted briefly though, and now it’s 2023.
At this point, I handle just about everything- cooking, cleaning, lunches, most childcare, errands, laundry, finances, scheduling appointments, the pets. You name it. Our sex life is dead, because I just do not view him as a romantic partner anymore. He’s been upset about that lately but… I just cannot.
I’m exhausted. I have been trying to figure out what to do, and I know that divorce is the only way to get my life back. He refuses to go to therapy, he has PTSD, and he won’t go to marriage counselling either.
There are a lot of issues that I’m not sure how to circumnavigate here:
So… any advice? I’m trying to find a lawyer currently. But I just feel like I’m drowning, and I’m so worried that he’ll try to screw me over. I don’t want anything from him, I just want to protect my kid, and to get away from this sham of a marriage.
Can he actually win majority custody of our daughter? Can he force us to stay in the city? And can he block/delay sale of our house?

I have some pet peeves that I'd like to complain about. Enjoy, and let me know if these things bug the hell out of you too!
  1. People who go the wrong way against clearly marked directions. Examples: Going against the arrow in the parking lot, using the exit door to enter, cutting through the uscan area when entering the store instead of going around. I hate this so much. These things are clearly marked and are there to keep traffic moving in an orderly fashion. When you walk into the store through the exit door, you're in the way of people trying to leave. When you cut through the uscans, you're in the way of people trying to checkout so they can leave. Go the direction the signs tell you to damnit! They're there for a reason!
  2. Drivers who think they own the road. You know what I mean. They're speeding and tailgating and weaving through traffic as if I'm in their way. Excuse me, but you're not more important than anyone else out here, and wherever you're going will still be there if you arrive two minutes later. We all have places to be and your effort to be first in line is pointless and dangerous. Also, I wish I had a link, but I saw something where they had two people drive to the same place, one person obeying all traffic laws, and the other trying to get there as fast as possible. The fast as possible guy got there only like 3-5 minutes sooner than the law abiding guy. Is five minutes really that important to you that you're willing to risk all our lives? Get over yourself and slow the fuck down!
  3. Obnoxiously loud engines. Maybe I'm missing something, maybe some vehicles require something that makes them obnoxiously loud in order to function properly, but I somehow doubt it. I also doubt that you need to advertise the volume of your engine while going through a tunnel or waiting at a red light. Your vehicle is already eye catching, you don't need to rev it up to get us to look at you. When we do look, it's out of annoyance, trust me, we aren't looking with envy! Also, we usually assume you're lacking in some other area.
  4. People who are rude to or yell at cashiers. As a former retail employee, let me assure you that whatever is pissing you off, it is NOT the fault of the poor cashier you're harassing, and they probably can't fix it either, without having to track down a manager, causing everyone to wait on account of your dumb ass. You picked up bleach that was on sale and it's ringing up full price, so you start getting loud with the cashier, even though there was a sign (not made by the cashier) indicating that the brand next to the one you picked up is the one on sale (not set by the cashier), and you want the sale price (which they can't give you because that shits been set to ring up that way, they can't bend the register to their will). (And if they could, they wouldn't because you're being an asshole and treating them like shit.)
I think the common theme of my pet peeves in entitlement. I really can't stand someone who thinks they're above and beyond, that whatever they've got going on should take priority over what everyone else has got going on, when they're no more than an NPC like the rest of us. Get the fuck over yourselves and realize that everyone is going through shit and doing the best they can, instead of trying to force yourself to the front of the heard of cows on their way to slaughter.

I and a friend were buying tickets for us and 3 others. I was on TM and he was on G&T. I got through and bought 4, he couldn't get through so joined the TM queue and also couldn't get through there, so I joined the G&T queue and got through quickly where I bought another ticket. The event info states there's a 4-ticket limit per person for ticket sales for the tour. Is this a ticket limit for tickets owned or a limit for tickets purchased through one specific agency? - that's what I thought it was in the moment
I've been sent the 5 tickets with no problem even though they were bought when the sale started. Think it could crop up as an issue? If it might I'll try and sell one on and get a friend to buy a resale if so.

although I'm no longer talking to my LO and have no desire to see them again, i realize how awful i was towards them. while yeah, they screwed up a few times as well, i was the one that ruined whatever peace we had left between us. i kept thinking by continously apologizing despite them wanting NC, I'd fix things. i completely crossed a line when i broke NC again and said really out of pocket things from anger, when i should've been the bigger person and left them alone.
now i'm labeled as a narcissistic and obsessive person. i can continue living without them in my life, but my behaviour and the hurt i caused them will forever haunt me. i can't even apologize to them again because that's not what they want. and an apology won't fix the damage i caused either. and i don't want them thinking i'm still obsessed when really i only want to take responsibility for what i've done.
i'm don't even know if by doing that, it's for my peace of mind or their's. after being called narcissistic, i'm questioning my intentions so much. everyone that knows me says i'm being too hard on myself, but i really don't deserve the pity. i'm even questioning if i sound manipulative right now. i don't know anymore. what my LO said will forever make me more wary of myself.
i can't let my limerence happen again. or at least not to the point of harming someone.

so i(22f) and my boyfriend(23m) went to this AYCE sushi place two years ago. the food was great and we usually tip 15%+ so there were no complaints.
we decided to go again today. we walked in, was sat down, and ordered hot tea and started writing what we wanted for the AYCE.
now, before we arrived, we were looking at the menu online and skimmed and saw some one star reviews about the chef, who happens to be the owner. we didn't think much of it since our experience previously went well.
well, once the server picked up the paper she went over to the chef and spoke to him about something, and then he came right over and told us that he cannot serve us sushi and proceeded to take our menus.
we sat there confused, and he proceeded to say something among the lines of, "I recognize your faces, you guys complained last time you were here." as i explained we were here two years ago he just told us the tea is on the house and that was it.
we took our time drinking the tea and when we left, i had an idea. i ordered about 10 sushi entrees (specifically stuff that couldn't be put back) that was about $180 online and set it up for takeout. i also added that i'd tip 20% of it.
it took them about 40 minutes to call us to tell us our sushi was ready, and we asked them, "Quick question, is the tea on the house?" and they hung up.
honestly, it'll probably just go to the other chefs and that one server(there was only one working that day), but it's still a loss in sale. i'm not a very confrontational person, so this was a huge win for me.
another note: we checked the reviews when we were home, and it turned out the chef was quite prejudiced against Asians, despite him being Asian himself. my boyfriend and i are also Asian, which is probably why he kicked us out for no reason.
