The second period of the Cenozoic, the Neogene saw the world start to shape into the way of the present. The Neogene in general had a much more stable climate than the Paleogene, though there was still a notable cooling trend that peaked at the end, causing the first Pleistocene Ice Age.
Miocene
The Miocene was a time of recovery for the planet, as the world was recovering from the Late Paleogene mass extinction, the climate was finally starting to stabilize, and appeared noticeably cooler than the hothouse of the late Paleogene. Soon enough, the stage was set for a new chapter in the history of life.
Though deserts were still widespread, it was not as hot and far more wet at the beginning of the Neogene, and as a result, the deserts quickly shrunk throughout the period.
In North America and Asia, this period is often called “The Age of Raptors”, due to the great diversity of the dromeosaurs. With the tyrannosaurs gone, and with the unstable climate of the Paleogene finally starting to level off, dromeosaurs started to grow into giants, and the 29 foot long Archoraptor from about 22 million years ago in the Early Miocene, not even 5 million years after the end of the Paleogene, shows that the dromeosaurs wasted no time grabbing hold of the top predator niche. The largest of these “Mega Dromeosaurs” was Borealoraptor, who at 36 feet long and 5 tons, was about as big as the Jurassic Allosaurus.
In South America and Africa, Spinosaurids were also experiencing a new age, carcharodontosaurs were eliminated in the two continents and left exclusive to Asia as a result of the extinction, and that allowed spinosaurids an opportunity to fill in the spot of terrestrial predators, a chance they very quickly took, with forms like the Amazonian Bulbsnout appearing 17 million years ago, a success story that lives into the present. Other forms also started appearing, with Suchodontosaurus being one of the largest carnivores of all time.
In Africa, Spinosaurids started taking a different direction. Instead of becoming bulkier and heavier built, they took inspiration from the carcharodontosaurids, developing more gracile and agile forms such as Hamonychus, with many leaving their old water-dwelling ways behind.
Despite so many new land based Spinosaurs, some still stuck to their roots as semiaquatic fish eaters, with many such as the Gojirasuchus becoming more adept swimmers. This is also where false Shark whales have their roots, with Carcharomimus from about 13 million years ago being the earliest known.
Despite being confined to Eastern Asia, Carcharodontosaurids still stayed relatively common, Dinodontosaurus was one of the most well known ones, likely thanks to having the longest known teeth of any theropod, barely beating out Tyrannosaurus and the European Bulbsnout at 14 inches long compared to 12 inches and 12.5 inches respectively, definitely earning the animal the name “terrible toothed lizard”.
Sauropods on the other hand were on a steady decline throughout the period, being restricted to North America, evidently having been knocked back off their game by the Paleogene extinction. Only 2 species are known to have reached the proportions of their predecessors, those being Ornithocephalusaurus and Gravicaudasaurus.
Around 9 million years ago, there was a strange event known as the Neogene Oxygen Spike, where oxygen levels suddenly nearly doubled in the span of just one million years. While the relatively sudden rise in oxygen went unnoticed for most continents, in Australia this lead to the rise of the arthropods. Already the dominant land animals as a result of both dinosaurs and most other reptiles going extinct on the continent, the sudden rise in oxygen allowed them to grow to sizes they haven’t seen since the Carboniferous.
Springtrap centipedes, at around 11 feet long and weighing nearly a quarter of a ton, are the largest known arthropods on earth and have lived until the present.
Several other arthropods attained larger sizes, with 4 foot crickets and 6 foot earwigs also known from Late Miocene Australia.
Pliocene
The Pliocene was noticeably cooler than the preceding Miocene, due to lower amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere. This cooling trend eventually resulted in the End Neogene Glaciation, which kickstarted the Ice Ages.
This period signaled the beginning of the end for the Age of Raptors. Around 3 million years ago, a land bridge temporarily formed, connecting North and South America. This allowed animals from South America to migrate into North America, namely the Spinosaurs.
The arrival of the Spinosaurs proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Mega Dromeosaurs, and they were likely out-competed for food by the southern invaders, and by the start of the Pleistocene, only 3 species of Mega Dromeosaur were left, Ferrunychus, Gravinychus, and Titanoraptor, and all of these were found in southern Canada, where the Spinosaurs hadn’t reached yet.
For the sauropods on the other hand, the formation of a land bridge was their saving grace, as many species migrated into South America and diversified heavily, Serpenmimus, Poseidosaurus, and Stegoplodocus are examples of this sudden radiation.
End Neogene Glaciation
The Neogene concluded with the End Neogene Glaciation, also known as the Pliocene-Pleistocene Glaciation. This was nowhere near as bad as the glaciation that kicked off the Paleogene, these ice caps only only extended down to about where Maine is, and in the Southern Hemisphere, they likely extended far enough to gently graze the southern coast of Australia.
The ice age is the first one of the Quaternary and is thought to have lasted nearly 70,000 years.
Aftermath
Unlike the Paleogene Ice age, this one isn’t associated with any significant extinction events, but the drop in sea levels likely caused a land bridge to form between North America and Asia, allowing North American animals to migrate into the larger continent and diversify further.
*A/N: nothing really to say here other than the fact that I decided to nerf the sizes of Australian arthropods, so Springtrap Centipedes are more in line with a mid sized alligator rather than a saltwater crocodile.

This was inspired by Northstars placement of H, which I think he got from Nerps.
This is an extraordinary option of Middlemak. Specific details:
1) The most fundamental change is that it puts all the vowels on one hand and most consonants on the other. This maximizes alternating hands (since 75% of all bigrams are between vowels and consonants) while still maintaining a good amount of Qwerty similarity to make it easy to adopt and keep shortcuts the same.
2) Second, this is a pretty impressive reduction in SFB (from Middlemak) by getting rid of NK, KN, NY, NF, and NM (and even AZ). None of those are humongous, but they do add up.
3) It reduces NFBs (from Middlemak). (Explanations on points 3 and 4 get pretty big, the short of it is that it reduces NFBS, massively reduces rolls, and puts in more alternating.) Full details:
3a) Left pinky: being N reduces the ring-to-pinky NFBs even more. WN, SN, and XN are much less common than WA, SA, XA.
3b) Right pinky: being A is slightly worse because it gets rid of the H inside roll. It basically splits the previous HI inside roll to half IA and half AI.
3c) RIght index: being H reduces NFB by replacing ON with OH.
4) It massively reduces rolls, replacing them with alternating hands. Full details:
4a) Left pinky: being N reduces overall rolls with the pinky by a massive 53%. The inside rolls reduce significantly, and the outside rolls to N go to almost nil.
4b) Right hand pinky: being A reduces overall rolls with the pinky by slight 11%. There is an increase in outside rolls with the pinky (previously having H there meant there was basically no outside rolls).
4c) Right index: being H reduces overall rolls with the index by 45%. There is also an increase in outside rolls (because H to vowels is common), but the reduction from removing N is huge.
Added up the three letters on both hands and it’s an impressive 43% reduction in overall rolls.
5) I expect this would reduce pinballing even more, because H is less common than N in the middle of words and in-between vowels.
6) Putting H, as the sole common consonant, on the same hand with the vowels works very well. H has half its bigrams with vowels and half with consonants, so putting it with the vowels means ~half the bigrams are on the opposite hand. That’s not as high as the vowels (86% of bigrams with consonants), but it’s quite high all things considered.
7) This still maintains a good amount of Qwerty similarity. Not just the ZXCV, but pretty much the whole bottom row of ZXCVB_M,.? including the punctuation. On the top row it keeps QW in the same spots. On the middle row it still “keeps” part of the SRT order. The letters TG and NYJ switch on the same finger as well. I think Qwerty similarity can’t be overlooked to make it easier to learn.
Downsides:
1) It introduces ND and NG on the same hand. These really don’t feel too bad going from pinky to index inside roll. And this is pretty small considering the amount of rolls taken out.
2) The hands are a little more unbalanced, with the right hand doing a bit more. But it’s very reasonable and still more balanced than most layouts. There’s no changing that without moving one of the uncommon letters Q, Z, X, V to the vowel hand, which would create knock on changes and likely result in a full change layout.
Conclusion:
I think this is a great option to maximize efficiency with most vowels and consonants on opposite hands.
(I do find it interesting that my variant changes 3 letters on the homerow. Most variants change letters around the edges.)
Middlemak (and Middlemak-NH) I specifically put less common bigrams (OY and OK) on the center column. These are also low with E.
Canary(ansi): There are a ton of NFBs with O and the centre column with OF and OM. Canary ortho still has a lot with OM on its centre column.
CTGAP(final/5) has similar NFBs with O and the centre column compared to Middlemak.
MTGAP is top notch in this regard by putting punctuation on the centre column. Very low pairings.
Nerps has a notable handful more than Middlemak with BO/OB. Not huge but not nothing.
(APTv3 doesn’t have the O on the middle finger. Putting O on the ring-finger-upper-row pushes the NFBs further away but imo puts O in a weaker position.)
If people really want I can put in charts for this. Have them in excel but it’s a lot of data.
Moving on, I’ll add some breakdown charts:
Notes: Sorted by SFB count (see next chart). Ratio >1 indicates right hand dominant, <1 indicates left hand dominant. The hand balance ratios are based on each hand's frequency/distance, right hand divided by left hand. E.g. Middlemak: 51.2% right hand frequency divided by 48.8% left hand frequency equals 1.05. Colemak: 53.2% right hand frequency divided by 46.7% left hand frequency equals 1.14. Hand Balance ratio based on Frequency and Distance is a simple multiplication of the two ratios. I did this because having more frequency and more movement on the same hand amplifies the hand dominance. Or if one hand has more frequency and the other hand has more movement, that would mitigate it to some degree. This is by no means the most definitive way to look at it, but it's what I've managed to come up with. The "Corrected comparison number for left hand dominant" is a hard math thing to explain (that I hope I'm right about anyway). E.g. for Workman listing 0.80 gives the wrong impression the hand dominance is equivalent to 1.2 (20%). But it's actually 1.26 (26%), obtained from 1/0.796=1.26.
I’ve debated how to show this and decided to go with the full nuclear information. Data is from Mayzner revisited in millions (which only has letter bigrams and doesn’t have punctuation data, that’s what the 0’s are).
Notes: This is with index finger pressing C location, how I think most people type. Adding in punctuation the numbers would be higher.
Notes 2: I think some people have misinterpreted what I mean with index pressing C. I mean on the bottom row: Pinky presses Z. Ring presses X. Middle presses nothing. Index presses C, V, B. This is not angle mod, which is: Pinky presses nothing. Ring presses Z. Middle presses X. Index presses C, V, B. Index finger pressing C (not angle) is how I think most people naturally type on a normal ansi keyboard, but it’s hard to know for sure. Most of the time this doesn’t make much of a difference of SFBs. Nerps, APTv3, Canary above have been given as angle mod because that’s what the creators specifically wanted, and it does make a difference. For index pressing C, they go up. Nerps to 38,832, APTv3(ansi) to 30,893. Canary(ansi) to 27,296. On the flip side Middlemak and Middlemak-NH if using the angle mod go down just a tad, not enough to be worth giving numbers. That means Middlemak and Middlemak-NH works for all 3 of index finger pressing C, angle mod, and “proper” ortho typing (Index finger pressing C actually gives the highest SFB count). (I could do yet another chart for 3 total on SFBs, but I think this is enough. Note the ortho chart below for APTv3 and Canary uses their ortho specified layouts.)
Middlemak-NH: This is very impressive and in league with full change layouts. All while keeping Qwerty similarity.
If you want overall percentages with index finger pressing C:
This is from Colemak-DH analyzer. This is quite a bit different and the differences between them are greater. Engram even switches places. This is from a) different corpus used and b) accounting for punctuation. On a) I used Mayzner Revisited which is a massive 5.6 trillion characters (does not have punctuation or spaces). Not sure what Colemak-DH uses but KLAnext considers 1 million to be big and slow. On b) Mayzner Revisited doesn’t have punctuation. Note that Middlemak doesn’t change punctuation while CTGAP, APTv3, and Canary do change them, presumably to reduce SFBs.
Ok I confirmed the big gap is from punctuation. Changing Middlemaks ,./ to ’,. and ’ to / (like Nerps, CTGAP, similar to Canary) gives dramatically lower SFB%. They are listed as (rotate punctuation). I’ll leave it up to the user to decide if they want to change punctuation.

*I decided to not include H for Middlemak because of the direction that the bigrams go. (Fyi if H was included, the NHMFKJ would be 31%, and the consonant % minus homerow would still be MFKJ 12%.) But the location of H matters because it’s almost always followed by a vowel. Putting H with the rest of the consonants means the pinballing can start there. Putting H alone on the pinky gives an inside roll.
The way I would read this to make probabilities, eg for Middlemak, would be 1.0*0.8*0.205*0.8...= 0.132 vs Colemak of 1.0*0.8*0.337*0.8...= 0.216 for a quadgram. For a pentagram: Middlemak would be 1.0*0.8*0.205*0.8*0.205 = 0.0269 vs Colemak of 1.0*0.8*0.337*0.8...= 0.0727. You can keep going. Starting with 1.0 to establish the word starts with the consonant on the vowel hand.
There are issues with this, it's based on frequency rather than actual specific _gram information or words.
The Consonant % minus home row is given because the home row is easier to type on. The consonants that are not on home-row are more awkward to move to.
There are more charts at middlemak/wiki that breakdown all the finger distances, frequencies, etc. Very interesting to see if you are concerned about specific finger workload.

Quick thoughts on other layout’s O and centre column NFBs.
One of the issues with putting O on the middle-finger-upper-row is that the EO column has a ton of frequency that pairs with the centre column. Think of Colemak’s HE, but now you have an O as well. I think you have to be careful or they will add up pretty quick.Middlemak (and Middlemak-NH) I specifically put less common bigrams (OY and OK) on the center column. These are also low with E.

Quick thoughts on columns
A lot of these layouts share similar columns. For consonants RL, TD, SW. Many vowel clusters are similar. A lot seems to come down to the C and what to do with it. It’s interesting to see Canary put C essentially by itself, which means 4 common letters are put off the homerow. Nerps and CTGAP make SCW. APTv3 makes SC.Moving on, I’ll add some breakdown charts:

Hand balance is a difficult topic. The two most obvious metrics for hand dominance are 1) the frequency of the letters, and 2) the distance the fingers have to travel (which is different from frequency because you don't travel to the home-row). But any pinballing from having too many vowels and consonants on the same hand doesn’t show up in those numbers. The SFB of Middlemak is still pretty low, but it does come out a tad higher than Colemak’s. Middlemak-NH comes in lower than Colemak (for index finger pressing C).I’ve debated how to show this and decided to go with the full nuclear information. Data is from Mayzner revisited in millions (which only has letter bigrams and doesn’t have punctuation data, that’s what the 0’s are).

The way I would read this to make probabilities, eg for Middlemak, would be 1.0*0.8*0.205*0.8...= 0.132 vs Colemak of 1.0*0.8*0.337*0.8...= 0.216 for a quadgram. For a pentagram: Middlemak would be 1.0*0.8*0.205*0.8*0.205 = 0.0269 vs Colemak of 1.0*0.8*0.337*0.8...= 0.0727. You can keep going. Starting with 1.0 to establish the word starts with the consonant on the vowel hand.
There are issues with this, it's based on frequency rather than actual specific _gram information or words.
The Consonant % minus home row is given because the home row is easier to type on. The consonants that are not on home-row are more awkward to move to.

The second most useful alien hoax would be a putatively peaceful visit that bestowed the gifts of more advanced government and more advanced spirituality. Of course, those gifts would be global government, global currency, and global religion, and no potential for some crazy citizen to do any harm to others. Such a “peaceful” alien hoax would also promise additional gifts of technology, once we had “progressed” to the point where no crazy citizen would have the freedom to use that technology to hurt anyone.
Although most useful idiots would be more likely to believe, and thus more willing to kill, for the invasion story, nearly as many would be just as extreme for the “good alien” story. After thinking through the possibilities and writing this article in August 2016, I discovered that Bill Cooper had elaborated on an alien hoax in an earlier interview, but I don't know if he ever thought of all the details of an alien hoax that I layout here before they killed him about eight weeks after 9/11. In that same interview, he explained how the same conference in 1917 that proposed an alien hoax to form a global government could instead use a global environmental threat to justify their global government.
One might assume the Players would pull it off just as soon as they believed they could get away with it, but as long as their agenda were progressing, they wouldn’t waste their best false flag unless they saw a window of opportunity closing. For example, what if those internet bloggers started waking up too many people, or what if known technology were catching up to secret technology to such an extent that the hoax would soon become less convincing?
Given that the Vatican has already started preparing people to expect the “peaceful” alien hoax, and given that it would be easier to pull off, I expect it to happen before the invasion hoax, and probably in the 2 – 10 year time frame.
Suppose not enough people were convinced by the “peaceful” alien hoax. In that case, the Players would have the “peaceful aliens” launch a limited attack to punish a few of those cities having the most non-believers. If that still wasn’t enough, they could have another fake alien race try to exterminate us for being so uncooperative, but then the “peaceful” aliens who had already punished a few non-believing cities could claim that we were worth saving and defeat the bad aliens in a spectacular light show in the sky. Imagine how grateful everyone would be. Then, surely, enough people would be on board for the Players' agenda.
Suppose the bad aliens used some beams from space to destroy ground targets. Would you believe it? Consider that governments have been working on such weapons for decades.
Real aliens wouldn’t exterminate us by physically attacking us. They would simply create a virus that would kill us. Therefore, the Players might choose to use a virus, which again is plausible human technology, and they would claim that they got the vaccine from the good aliens. Of course, the vaccine would also be a eugenics program, and its ill effects would simply be blamed on the original virus, when they were in fact caused by the vaccine.
If there were a real alien involved, consider that he may simply be a passive observer and not one of the perpetrators. Also, consider than one alien is not proof of an invasion. It would be more likely that he were a captured scout and that his technology were being used against his will. Flow trading is my preferred style of trading. Simply put, you look at options trades that are being placed and use it to help make determinations about where a stock might be headed (or if it may stay range bound). You look at various calls, puts, the size of the trade, and the timeframe of the trade. Option flow *can* (but like anything in life/trading, doesn't always) work if done correctly. Think about it- there are professionals with way better technology, way better research, way better algorithims than we will ever have access to. Lets say they have information that a certain stock will trade to XYZ price. Well, they can profit off of that by buying the underlying options- and that's what we follow. This is the "smart" money. Just Follow the Flow? Not blindly. Remember, options flow show us the order but NOT THE WHY. Yesterday someone posted about NVDA July $500C being bought. Great! But what if that trader is short 12,000 shares of NVDA? On a 0.06 delta trade, that's a perfect hedge. The reality is we do not know what the intention of the trade was. Maybe it was a long bet. We don't know. Then What's the Point? Like everything, option flow trading is a TOOL. Nothing more. Identify where the smart money is positioned, and incorporate the other techniques to select high probability trades with positive reward/risk ratios. An Example of What I Look For: Few days ago, I went long NFLX out of the money calls. Why? As I posted many times, the technical setup was superb. The stock was consolidating its gains after a move up and ready for the next leg. But why now? They were buying longer dated calls for a few days. But yesterday I saw something very unusual. Someone came in and sold 1000x weekly $425 in the money puts for $27 each while the stock was at $397. Selling puts is a major bullish sign that someone thinks the stock is going to go higher, and go higher quick. The next day we woke up to two street high price target upgrades. Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations,with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film,but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses,but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Thor: Love and Thunder, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. Finishing up the top five is Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Watch ‘Filmmakers for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other of the season's awards contenders have. A Google spokesperson said that while Google is downsizing with the subleases, it plans to maintain vibrant campuses as a key part of its corporate culture.
“As we work to ensure that our real estate investments match the needs of our hybrid workforce, we’re ending leases for a number of unoccupied spaces,” the spokesperson said. “We remain committed to our longstanding presence in the Bay Area and investing in the local community.”
Google parent Alphabet’s chief financial officer announced in February, as part of the company’s earnings report, that the company would take a $500 million loss to reduce its global office space footprint as it also slows hiring.

I got lucky. That's all I can say. I started going and then at a certain point (around level 20, it did not take me long to get there) I switched to Munchkinland and started betting a little higher. Around level 40 I got brave and started betting at around 500 million (I accumulated many credits at this point through some lucky big and mega wins). I kept getting bonuses and Pickys and betting so high was levelling me up fast. I just hit level 101, decided to go a little further because I still have over 56 billion credits and stopped at level 103. It is currently pending and I've taken a screenshot of my pendings just in case I get jettisoned from the app randomly (not saying that's going to happen).
I will say if you try it, and you're good at feeling it out it's easy to tell when things are going your way or if you're just bleeding. If you are bleeding chips play smart and back off for a little while. If it doesn't look like it's a winner, then let it go.

Hi all,
It's about that time again! For the fifth year in a row, here is my (unsolicited) overview of Roma's squad, current mercato, potential signings, and loan dealings.
Every year I try to give these a theme - last year, the name of the game was versatility: getting players who could cover multiple roles as we had a severely reduced squad due to FFP rules. We saw exactly how that came to bite us both in the league - where we were LITERALLY playing the kids to give the first teamers a break - and in the EL Final, where forced substitutions left us going into Penalties with no designated penalty takers.
With no expectation of squad reductions this season, the name of the game for this exercise is depth - our first team is good, VERY good even, but the question is "what options do we have on the bench or in rotation that can keep that level of quality?" and the answer this season due to injuries (Wijnaldum, Kumbulla), transfers and personal issues (Zaniolo, Karsdorp), or registration issues (Solbakken) has been categorically no. Simply put, it is not fair to put the weight of expectation on Benjamin Tahirovic (who is too young to purchase Alcohol in the United States) because our midfield of Matic and Cristante cannot play every game. Pair that with the long term injuries to Kumbulla and Abraham - both of whom will not be back until 2024 - and we need bodies, plain and simple.
Our current FFP situation also means that we will likely need to end this mercato in the black - which means relying on free transfers, loans, and spending money VERY judiciously.
Houssam Aouar: Aouar is a gamble in my honest opinion. A few years ago, this man was the Robin to Nabil Fekir’s Batman, and while I don’t think either of those players has had the career they had hoped to have, on his day this man can be unplayable. Emphasis on the “on his day”. On good days, Aouar has Jordan Veretout’s work ethic, and Jeremy Menez’s feet. On bad days, he has Veretout’s feet and Menez’s work ethic.
On the positive though, he can play (like Pellegrini) both in the center midfield as an 8, or more attacking as a 10. This can give us options off the bench to either rotate or change a game as necessary.
Evan Ndicka: Now this one I’m very happy about. Ndicka is left footed, very physical, but very intelligent as well which means he has a good eye for a pass as needed. He reminds me quite a bit of Antonio Rudiger in that he fits a very similar profile and played for a Bundesliga club at a similar level. I have no reservations - I think he will be a hit, but like Aouar will benefit tremendously from a full pre-season.
Goalkeepers
Pietro Boer - Let’s start with the easy one: Boer is a third choice keeper that is home-grown at club. Useful for registration, costs us peanuts, has never complained. Keep.
Rui Patricio - From the easy to the hard one: Rui’s decline this season has been sharp, but consistent. His great saves remind us that, once upon a time, that’s a solid goalkeeper, but that has been paired with just… odd mistakes - not Robin Olsen bad, but pretty bad nonetheless. This is no longer a starting International Goalkeeper (that honor goes to Diogo Costa nowadays). He would still make an excellent second-choice goalkeeper at a top club - which might be a good selling point as he still has admirers in the Premier League. Sell.
Mile Svilar - I really wanted to love Svilar. Football Manager Stans rise up, because ALL of us have signed Svilar at one point or another. Svilar still strikes me as potentially a very good keeper, but he has been unable to dislodge Patricio from that starting berth. I think he will end up staying around, and I hope he can prove himself to everyone in a starting role next season. Keep.
Defenders
Gianluca Mancini - We start with Mancini because as of right now, he is the only defender that looks certain to stay. He is definitely the second coming of Materazzi in temperament… if not in talent just yet. He still as a few years on his contract, Mourinho likes him a lot, and he provides leadership on and off the pitch. Keep.
Chris Smalling - While Smalling has been our best player (not just defender) at quite a few points this season, I am always concerned about long-term performance with him. I think he should be renewed - his play has merited that - but if I said “leader at the back, wins everything in the air, incredibly useful on set pieces” I haven’t just described Smalling… I’m also describing one Federico Fazio. Players like Fazio and Smalling are incredibly reliant on their physical attributes - but that physicality at older ages is one major injury away from disappearing completely. Renew him - but no more than two years. Keep.
Marash Kumbulla - Ah, the anti-Smalling. If Chris Smalling’s play has merited him to receive a contract renewal, Kumbulla’s definitely has not. However, due to his ACL injury, Marash is staying for another season in Rome… even if he probably shouldn’t. Keep.
Roger Ibañez - Now comes the other shoe. Roma needs to raise 30 million euros by the end of June to comply with their FFP agreement with Uefa. Failure to do so will likely hamstring us again in the coming Europa League, especially without Champions League money. With Abraham’s injury, and Ndicka a done deal, the clearest place to monetize in the squad is with Roger Ibañez. Our relationship with Roger has been a love-hate one, where we love his grinta and his ability to score in crucial moments, but his brain-farts have cost us on the pitch… repeatedly. Sell.
Full-Backs
Rick Karsdorp - It’s unclear what Karsdorp’s situation with the manager is. On the one hand, Karsdorp was reintegrated into the squad after his falling out with Mourinho and did continue to play, but how much of that was convenience and a “wait until the summer” mentality rather than anything truly genuine. Karsdorp is also currently recovering from an injury, which he should be fit from before September. He has a contract until 2025 - I’d consider him out the door should we receive a good offer… but I doubt we will. Keep.
Zeki Celik - I think it speaks volumes that Mourinho at times has preferred to play Spinazzola or Zalewski on the wrong side rather that give Celik the start. I don’t know if this has been due to poor form, injuries, or simply needing another season to “gel”. Regardless, I don’t think selling Celik at this point will accomplish anything. Keep.
Matias Viña - Remember him? Bournemouth has not exercised their option, so Viña is returning to home base. Unlike other loan moves, however, his time with the Cherries was fairly solid - including an outrageous goal against Chelsea. Why he’s not being renewed, I’m not sure but the Premier League exposure definitely helped us if we choose to cash in. The question is… should we? We are crying out for depth and Viña is a textbook “depth” option. I think we should approach this like Karsdorp - if we get an offer, consider it, otherwise Keep.
Leonardo Spinazzola - On paper, this is our best fullback. In practice, all of us know that the best ability is availability and Leonardo has just… not been there when needed. He is also - critically - the wrong side of 30, which in this position can cost you that turn of pace that is needed. I think, like Ibañez, this is a player we should cash in on now, especially as he enters his final year of contract. Sell.
Nicola Zalewski - Fortunately, this one is easy: Nicola has the distinction of being both young and home-grown, takes no space in registration, and Mourinho loves him. Keep.
Midfielders
Nemanja Matic - Boy was I wrong about Matic. I expected him to be too slow and lumbering for Mourinho’s game, but instead was exactly the midfield veteran we needed - a tall, Serbian Roy Kent. At his age, there is no-one realistically coming in for him, and his contract was automatically extended. Keep.
Bryan Cristante - The unsung hero of this season, Cristante has been consummate professional we all know he can be. Unless we get outrageous money for him (doubtful), this is a Keep.
Edoardo Bove - Like Zalewski, he has been the cream of the crop of youngsters brought through by Mourinho. The argument here is not - should he stay or should he go, but rather should we keep or should we loan. Bove does need minutes… but in his defense, this season he’s gotten them and earned them on the pitch. Keep.
Benjamin Tahirovic - I feel so bad for Benjamin. He was thrown into the fire and while he didn’t do poorly… he didn’t do well either. Like Bove, he needs minutes… unlike Bove, his play hasn’t warranted giving them to him. If there was ever a player who needed a move to Sassuolo, here he is. Sell (with Buy-Back Clause).
Ebrima Darboe - I feel really bad for Darboe. He had the breakout season of his life only two years ago, but has been heavily hampered by injury for the past year and a half and is only returning to training… now. So what do we do with him? He needs minutes to gain back fitness, not just for us, but him and his sharpness. I doubt Sassuolo will bite, but I think a newly promoted team or an Udinese might. Loan.
Gonzalo Villar - Yep, he’s coming back. Like Viña, Getafe is not exercising their option to buy - he never even put on the jersey! - and like Karsdorp he also rather publicly fell out with Mourinho. In this case, though, the falling out was quite a bit more justified, as Gonzalo has proven himself to be both mentally and physically frail, while being technically gifted. There is value in this player, but no team has really been willing to take a risk on him. He has spoken publicly about a willingness to prove himself to Mourinho - I’d be willing to give him that chance, if anything due to a lack of options. Keep.
Attacking Midfielders/Wingers
Lorenzo Pellegrini - Do I need to discuss this one? Keep.
Paulo Dybala - Recent statements have really put the speculation to rest: Dybala appears to want to stay in Italy and in Rome specifically. Keep.
Stephan El Sharaawy - He has demonstrated a willingness to be a servant for the club, even agreeing to a pay-cut with his renewal package. Keep.
Cristian Volpato - See Tahirovic. He desperately needs the minutes his potential deserves. There has been a lot of chatter of him going off to Sassuolo and I think it makes the most sense. Sell (with Buy-Back Clause).
Ola Solbakken - Had his minutes cut drastically by the registration shenanigans due to Zaniolo transfer, but was solid in the league and has room to grow. Keep.
Justin Kluivert - Once again, Kluivert is returning to home-base. While I would like to see us make use of him, he has made it categorically clear that he doesn’t want to be here. Bournemouth are said to be interested, but I see him potentially doing quite well in France or Spain. There’s a particular club in Spain in particular who I think might bite… but more on them later. Sell.
Carles Perez - Like Kluivert, Perez is also returning from a loan (I’m seeing a pattern here), but unlike Kluivert I don’t see anything worthwhile that Perez might bring to this team. Sell.
Strikers
Tammy Abraham - Up until recently, he was the most likely in the squad to be monetized with West Ham and Aston Villa both interested. His ACL tear scuppered that plan, and is now likely to stay in Rome for one more season. I hope it’s redemption for him after a fairly poor season. Keep.
Andrea Belotti - SPEAKING OF POOR SEASONS! I cannot explain exactly what has happened to Belotti, but I’d guess that his poor form in the league is more due to a poor team form than his own. The service and creativity behind him was simply lacking, and without Abraham’s physicality to win long balls he was kind of left to his own devices, pressing defenders and midfielders as needed… which he did. His automatic contract extension was activated, however, so expect to see Andrea in Roma colors next season. Keep.
Eldor Shomurodov - This is a weird one… although this signing has been odd from the get-go. Shomurodov’s loan is likely not going to be made permanent by Spezia - especially if they get relegated - and this season he has been completely been cut out by N’zola’s heroics in front of goal. That said, Abraham’s injury means that there is a good chance Shomurodov will be playing in Roma colors next season - especially if we cannot get a striker in. Keep.
Goalkeeper
Emil Audero - Audero has been Serie A’s most unsung hero for a few seasons, keeping a mediocre Sampdoria side up when they clearly didn’t deserve to. Sampdoria’s financial woes can be very helpful to us, however, as we could essentially pick him up for a song (ie 6 million or less). There will likely be a bidding war for both Vicario and Carnesecchi this summer, but I’d rather go for solid and less flashy between the sticks.
Dominik Livakovic - This is a PSA: Livakovic still plays for Dinamo Zagreb… somehow. This is a world class, internationally rated goalkeeper that is entering his final year of contract. If we can beat the competition, this would be a great pickup.
Center-Backs
Kostantinos Mavropanos - With Stuttgart facing a relegation playoff, it’s possible that one of Europe’s best young(ish) center backs might be available for a significant discount. With the legacy that Dellas and Manolas have left with this club, having a Greek defender back at the club feels… right!
Diego Llorente - Played on loan with us for six months and impressed when he played. With Leeds just relegated and the player pushing to stay in Rome, it’s possible we get a good discount (there is no way we should spend 18 million on him though).
Fullbacks
Cristiano Biraghi - Biraghi is entering his final year of contract at Fiorentina and has been a solid option everywhere he has played. More defensively minded than Spinazzola or Zalewski, but still willing to run down the left and play a cross - he leads la Viola for progressive carries. Importantly, he is left-footed so he gives us a different play down the left than our two current left-backs.
Kai Wagner - If you don’t rate MLS, feel free to skip but Kai Wagner has been the one of the league’s best left-backs - former Schalke player before moving to Philadelphia and really exploding. Was set to join Leeds but their relegation changes that completely. Their loss is our gain - his contract expires in December, could be an excellent pickup.
Adrien Truffert - Had a breakout season for Rennes last season, who have an excellent eye for talent in recent years. Truffert has been marketed as being available for 15 million this summer - which is perhaps more than we’re willing to spend, but if Spinazzola is sold for a comparable fee, then this might be a solid like-for-like replacement.
Sergio Reguillón - His loan at Atletico has come to an end, and it’s looking like Reguillon is hitting the market once more. Mourinho is supposedly a big fan and they’ve worked well together before. This would likely be a loan, and only after Levy pays up for Ibanez as he’s likely to pull shenanigans. Still - this could be a great, essentially free, pickup.
Wilfried Singo - Last one on this list, Singo’s has had a great few years for Torino but has publicly come out and said he will not sign a new deal. This would be a solid alternative to Karsdorp as they play relatively similarly.
Midfielders
Youri Tielemans - This has been discussed quite a bit - Tielemans is available on a free this summer, and is pure class at deep-lying playmaker. My only concern is that he does not play as defensively as Mourinho might like, but this is still a great player and a great opportunity we should not let slip.
Florian Grillitsch - Like Tielemans, Grillitsch is available for a free this summer. Unlike Tielemans, however, Grillitsch has not had a great season after his move to Ajax this season - mainly due to injury. That said, this is a physical player who can play well with his feet - very much in the mold of a Strootman.
Nikola Moro - Moro has been an unsung, unspoken of, hero of Bologna’s season with Serie A leading stats for progressive passes, carries, and successful through balls. He is currently on loan with an option to buy from Dinamo Moscow and it seems increasingly unlikely that Bologna will use that option. We should absolutely make an offer as Moro has shown himself to be an excellent and reliable midfield option.
Davide Frattesi - Let’s try this again, shall we? This is likely going to happen this summer - with a players plus cash mega deal with Sassuolo. This is not quite the profile I outlined but would provide a dose of dynamism to a rather sluggish midfield.
Strikers
This one is complicated - because the profile I outlined doesn’t exist at our price-range. In an ideal world, we would take advantage of the absurd situation at Chelsea and pickup Kai Havertz on loan as that fits the criteria exactly - Striker and Attacking Midfielder in one (Richarlison also comes to mind). So here’s my best choices although none of them is exactly perfect for what we want.
Sheraldo Becker - One of the lynchpins of the Union Berlin cinderella story, Becker is explosive when he gets going and fits a counterattacking team perfectly. Becker is very publicly available for a cool 20mln this summer, but may be able to be negotiated down as this is last year of contract. The issue is that Becker is more a wingeattacking midfielder than a striker. He has played there in a pinch but it doesn’t play the most to his strengths.
Alfredo Morelos - Morelos has just left the Ibrox at the end of his contract looking for a bigger club, but no-one has bitten yet. He is an out-and-out goal scorer, who played as an 11 in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Here, the problem is the reverse - can he play at second striker as a Raumdeuter-type player?
Mauro Icardi - Here we are again, linked with Mauro Icardi for a price as close to “free” as is possible. Is it worth it to bring the Icardi soap opera to a powder keg like Rome? Honestly… if there’s one thing Icardi does, that Icardi always does, is score goals, something we desperately needed this past season. Again, like Morelos though, can he play alongside a number 9 as a second striker?
Last one, which I’m including purely for the banter of it but…
Mario Balotelli - WAIT stop don’t Alt-F4 this just yet. Hear me out. Mourinho is one of the few coaches to get Balotelli to act like an actual footballer, and he has a great rapport with Stephan El Sharaawy. I think these two things in combination might get one last gasp out of Italy’s last truly great talent, with the added benefit that he can play both the positions I outlined above. Sion has crashed out of the Superleague in Switzerland after losing their playoff, so Balotelli will likely leave on a free. I would go for a gamble on him with an Adriano-esque behavior clause that lets us tear up his contract for behavioral issues.
Also, for what it's worth, he's fairly good at Penalties. Which I bring up... for reasons.

It's about that time again! For the fifth year in a row, here is my (unsolicited) overview of Roma's squad, current mercato, potential signings, and loan dealings.
Every year I try to give these a theme - last year, the name of the game was versatility: getting players who could cover multiple roles as we had a severely reduced squad due to FFP rules. We saw exactly how that came to bite us both in the league - where we were LITERALLY playing the kids to give the first teamers a break - and in the EL Final, where forced substitutions left us going into Penalties with no designated penalty takers.
With no expectation of squad reductions this season, the name of the game for this exercise is depth - our first team is good, VERY good even, but the question is "what options do we have on the bench or in rotation that can keep that level of quality?" and the answer this season due to injuries (Wijnaldum, Kumbulla), transfers and personal issues (Zaniolo, Karsdorp), or registration issues (Solbakken) has been categorically no. Simply put, it is not fair to put the weight of expectation on Benjamin Tahirovic (who is too young to purchase Alcohol in the United States) because our midfield of Matic and Cristante cannot play every game. Pair that with the long term injuries to Kumbulla and Abraham - both of whom will not be back until 2024 - and we need bodies, plain and simple.
Our current FFP situation also means that we will likely need to end this mercato in the black - which means relying on free transfers, loans, and spending money VERY judiciously.
Transfer Dealings Done
Now to our credit, we have gotten a head start on at least two players:Houssam Aouar: Aouar is a gamble in my honest opinion. A few years ago, this man was the Robin to Nabil Fekir’s Batman, and while I don’t think either of those players has had the career they had hoped to have, on his day this man can be unplayable. Emphasis on the “on his day”. On good days, Aouar has Jordan Veretout’s work ethic, and Jeremy Menez’s feet. On bad days, he has Veretout’s feet and Menez’s work ethic.
On the positive though, he can play (like Pellegrini) both in the center midfield as an 8, or more attacking as a 10. This can give us options off the bench to either rotate or change a game as necessary.
Evan Ndicka: Now this one I’m very happy about. Ndicka is left footed, very physical, but very intelligent as well which means he has a good eye for a pass as needed. He reminds me quite a bit of Antonio Rudiger in that he fits a very similar profile and played for a Bundesliga club at a similar level. I have no reservations - I think he will be a hit, but like Aouar will benefit tremendously from a full pre-season.
Squad Breakdown
NOTE - I am not including loan players who have returned to their respective clubs (Wijnaldum, Camara, Llorente)Goalkeepers
Pietro Boer - Let’s start with the easy one: Boer is a third choice keeper that is home-grown at club. Useful for registration, costs us peanuts, has never complained. Keep.
Rui Patricio - From the easy to the hard one: Rui’s decline this season has been sharp, but consistent. His great saves remind us that, once upon a time, that’s a solid goalkeeper, but that has been paired with just… odd mistakes - not Robin Olsen bad, but pretty bad nonetheless. This is no longer a starting International Goalkeeper (that honor goes to Diogo Costa nowadays). He would still make an excellent second-choice goalkeeper at a top club - which might be a good selling point as he still has admirers in the Premier League. Sell.
Mile Svilar - I really wanted to love Svilar. Football Manager Stans rise up, because ALL of us have signed Svilar at one point or another. Svilar still strikes me as potentially a very good keeper, but he has been unable to dislodge Patricio from that starting berth. I think he will end up staying around, and I hope he can prove himself to everyone in a starting role next season. Keep.
Defenders
Gianluca Mancini - We start with Mancini because as of right now, he is the only defender that looks certain to stay. He is definitely the second coming of Materazzi in temperament… if not in talent just yet. He still as a few years on his contract, Mourinho likes him a lot, and he provides leadership on and off the pitch. Keep.
Chris Smalling - While Smalling has been our best player (not just defender) at quite a few points this season, I am always concerned about long-term performance with him. I think he should be renewed - his play has merited that - but if I said “leader at the back, wins everything in the air, incredibly useful on set pieces” I haven’t just described Smalling… I’m also describing one Federico Fazio. Players like Fazio and Smalling are incredibly reliant on their physical attributes - but that physicality at older ages is one major injury away from disappearing completely. Renew him - but no more than two years. Keep.
Marash Kumbulla - Ah, the anti-Smalling. If Chris Smalling’s play has merited him to receive a contract renewal, Kumbulla’s definitely has not. However, due to his ACL injury, Marash is staying for another season in Rome… even if he probably shouldn’t. Keep.
Roger Ibañez - Now comes the other shoe. Roma needs to raise 30 million euros by the end of June to comply with their FFP agreement with Uefa. Failure to do so will likely hamstring us again in the coming Europa League, especially without Champions League money. With Abraham’s injury, and Ndicka a done deal, the clearest place to monetize in the squad is with Roger Ibañez. Our relationship with Roger has been a love-hate one, where we love his grinta and his ability to score in crucial moments, but his brain-farts have cost us on the pitch… repeatedly. Sell.
Full-Backs
Rick Karsdorp - It’s unclear what Karsdorp’s situation with the manager is. On the one hand, Karsdorp was reintegrated into the squad after his falling out with Mourinho and did continue to play, but how much of that was convenience and a “wait until the summer” mentality rather than anything truly genuine. Karsdorp is also currently recovering from an injury, which he should be fit from before September. He has a contract until 2025 - I’d consider him out the door should we receive a good offer… but I doubt we will. Keep.
Zeki Celik - I think it speaks volumes that Mourinho at times has preferred to play Spinazzola or Zalewski on the wrong side rather that give Celik the start. I don’t know if this has been due to poor form, injuries, or simply needing another season to “gel”. Regardless, I don’t think selling Celik at this point will accomplish anything. Keep.
Matias Viña - Remember him? Bournemouth has not exercised their option, so Viña is returning to home base. Unlike other loan moves, however, his time with the Cherries was fairly solid - including an outrageous goal against Chelsea. Why he’s not being renewed, I’m not sure but the Premier League exposure definitely helped us if we choose to cash in. The question is… should we? We are crying out for depth and Viña is a textbook “depth” option. I think we should approach this like Karsdorp - if we get an offer, consider it, otherwise Keep.
Leonardo Spinazzola - On paper, this is our best fullback. In practice, all of us know that the best ability is availability and Leonardo has just… not been there when needed. He is also - critically - the wrong side of 30, which in this position can cost you that turn of pace that is needed. I think, like Ibañez, this is a player we should cash in on now, especially as he enters his final year of contract. Sell.
Nicola Zalewski - Fortunately, this one is easy: Nicola has the distinction of being both young and home-grown, takes no space in registration, and Mourinho loves him. Keep.
Midfielders
Nemanja Matic - Boy was I wrong about Matic. I expected him to be too slow and lumbering for Mourinho’s game, but instead was exactly the midfield veteran we needed - a tall, Serbian Roy Kent. At his age, there is no-one realistically coming in for him, and his contract was automatically extended. Keep.
Bryan Cristante - The unsung hero of this season, Cristante has been consummate professional we all know he can be. Unless we get outrageous money for him (doubtful), this is a Keep.
Edoardo Bove - Like Zalewski, he has been the cream of the crop of youngsters brought through by Mourinho. The argument here is not - should he stay or should he go, but rather should we keep or should we loan. Bove does need minutes… but in his defense, this season he’s gotten them and earned them on the pitch. Keep.
Benjamin Tahirovic - I feel so bad for Benjamin. He was thrown into the fire and while he didn’t do poorly… he didn’t do well either. Like Bove, he needs minutes… unlike Bove, his play hasn’t warranted giving them to him. If there was ever a player who needed a move to Sassuolo, here he is. Sell (with Buy-Back Clause).
Ebrima Darboe - I feel really bad for Darboe. He had the breakout season of his life only two years ago, but has been heavily hampered by injury for the past year and a half and is only returning to training… now. So what do we do with him? He needs minutes to gain back fitness, not just for us, but him and his sharpness. I doubt Sassuolo will bite, but I think a newly promoted team or an Udinese might. Loan.
Gonzalo Villar - Yep, he’s coming back. Like Viña, Getafe is not exercising their option to buy - he never even put on the jersey! - and like Karsdorp he also rather publicly fell out with Mourinho. In this case, though, the falling out was quite a bit more justified, as Gonzalo has proven himself to be both mentally and physically frail, while being technically gifted. There is value in this player, but no team has really been willing to take a risk on him. He has spoken publicly about a willingness to prove himself to Mourinho - I’d be willing to give him that chance, if anything due to a lack of options. Keep.
Attacking Midfielders/Wingers
Lorenzo Pellegrini - Do I need to discuss this one? Keep.
Paulo Dybala - Recent statements have really put the speculation to rest: Dybala appears to want to stay in Italy and in Rome specifically. Keep.
Stephan El Sharaawy - He has demonstrated a willingness to be a servant for the club, even agreeing to a pay-cut with his renewal package. Keep.
Cristian Volpato - See Tahirovic. He desperately needs the minutes his potential deserves. There has been a lot of chatter of him going off to Sassuolo and I think it makes the most sense. Sell (with Buy-Back Clause).
Ola Solbakken - Had his minutes cut drastically by the registration shenanigans due to Zaniolo transfer, but was solid in the league and has room to grow. Keep.
Justin Kluivert - Once again, Kluivert is returning to home-base. While I would like to see us make use of him, he has made it categorically clear that he doesn’t want to be here. Bournemouth are said to be interested, but I see him potentially doing quite well in France or Spain. There’s a particular club in Spain in particular who I think might bite… but more on them later. Sell.
Carles Perez - Like Kluivert, Perez is also returning from a loan (I’m seeing a pattern here), but unlike Kluivert I don’t see anything worthwhile that Perez might bring to this team. Sell.
Strikers
Tammy Abraham - Up until recently, he was the most likely in the squad to be monetized with West Ham and Aston Villa both interested. His ACL tear scuppered that plan, and is now likely to stay in Rome for one more season. I hope it’s redemption for him after a fairly poor season. Keep.
Andrea Belotti - SPEAKING OF POOR SEASONS! I cannot explain exactly what has happened to Belotti, but I’d guess that his poor form in the league is more due to a poor team form than his own. The service and creativity behind him was simply lacking, and without Abraham’s physicality to win long balls he was kind of left to his own devices, pressing defenders and midfielders as needed… which he did. His automatic contract extension was activated, however, so expect to see Andrea in Roma colors next season. Keep.
Eldor Shomurodov - This is a weird one… although this signing has been odd from the get-go. Shomurodov’s loan is likely not going to be made permanent by Spezia - especially if they get relegated - and this season he has been completely been cut out by N’zola’s heroics in front of goal. That said, Abraham’s injury means that there is a good chance Shomurodov will be playing in Roma colors next season - especially if we cannot get a striker in. Keep.
Squad Needs
To my mind - this is including the Aouar and Ndicka transfers - this team needs at least one more player per role.- A Goalkeeper to replace either Rui Patricio as first-choice keeper, or Svilar as second-choice keeper.
- An additional Left-Back to replace the departing Spinazzola - preferably left-footed to provide a different kind of player to Zalewski.
- An additional fullback as coverage for both wings (either footed).
- A deep-lying playmaker who can give coverage for Cristante, either to rest or when he is needed as an additional defender.
- A rotation defender who can slot in to give coverage for the injured Kumbulla.
- A versatile attacker who can play both at striker, and as a second-striker alongside Dybala for coverage.
Targets
Let’s tackle these in order, shall we?Goalkeeper
Emil Audero - Audero has been Serie A’s most unsung hero for a few seasons, keeping a mediocre Sampdoria side up when they clearly didn’t deserve to. Sampdoria’s financial woes can be very helpful to us, however, as we could essentially pick him up for a song (ie 6 million or less). There will likely be a bidding war for both Vicario and Carnesecchi this summer, but I’d rather go for solid and less flashy between the sticks.
Dominik Livakovic - This is a PSA: Livakovic still plays for Dinamo Zagreb… somehow. This is a world class, internationally rated goalkeeper that is entering his final year of contract. If we can beat the competition, this would be a great pickup.
Center-Backs
Kostantinos Mavropanos - With Stuttgart facing a relegation playoff, it’s possible that one of Europe’s best young(ish) center backs might be available for a significant discount. With the legacy that Dellas and Manolas have left with this club, having a Greek defender back at the club feels… right!
Diego Llorente - Played on loan with us for six months and impressed when he played. With Leeds just relegated and the player pushing to stay in Rome, it’s possible we get a good discount (there is no way we should spend 18 million on him though).
Fullbacks
Cristiano Biraghi - Biraghi is entering his final year of contract at Fiorentina and has been a solid option everywhere he has played. More defensively minded than Spinazzola or Zalewski, but still willing to run down the left and play a cross - he leads la Viola for progressive carries. Importantly, he is left-footed so he gives us a different play down the left than our two current left-backs.
Kai Wagner - If you don’t rate MLS, feel free to skip but Kai Wagner has been the one of the league’s best left-backs - former Schalke player before moving to Philadelphia and really exploding. Was set to join Leeds but their relegation changes that completely. Their loss is our gain - his contract expires in December, could be an excellent pickup.
Adrien Truffert - Had a breakout season for Rennes last season, who have an excellent eye for talent in recent years. Truffert has been marketed as being available for 15 million this summer - which is perhaps more than we’re willing to spend, but if Spinazzola is sold for a comparable fee, then this might be a solid like-for-like replacement.
Sergio Reguillón - His loan at Atletico has come to an end, and it’s looking like Reguillon is hitting the market once more. Mourinho is supposedly a big fan and they’ve worked well together before. This would likely be a loan, and only after Levy pays up for Ibanez as he’s likely to pull shenanigans. Still - this could be a great, essentially free, pickup.
Wilfried Singo - Last one on this list, Singo’s has had a great few years for Torino but has publicly come out and said he will not sign a new deal. This would be a solid alternative to Karsdorp as they play relatively similarly.
Midfielders
Youri Tielemans - This has been discussed quite a bit - Tielemans is available on a free this summer, and is pure class at deep-lying playmaker. My only concern is that he does not play as defensively as Mourinho might like, but this is still a great player and a great opportunity we should not let slip.
Florian Grillitsch - Like Tielemans, Grillitsch is available for a free this summer. Unlike Tielemans, however, Grillitsch has not had a great season after his move to Ajax this season - mainly due to injury. That said, this is a physical player who can play well with his feet - very much in the mold of a Strootman.
Nikola Moro - Moro has been an unsung, unspoken of, hero of Bologna’s season with Serie A leading stats for progressive passes, carries, and successful through balls. He is currently on loan with an option to buy from Dinamo Moscow and it seems increasingly unlikely that Bologna will use that option. We should absolutely make an offer as Moro has shown himself to be an excellent and reliable midfield option.
Davide Frattesi - Let’s try this again, shall we? This is likely going to happen this summer - with a players plus cash mega deal with Sassuolo. This is not quite the profile I outlined but would provide a dose of dynamism to a rather sluggish midfield.
Strikers
This one is complicated - because the profile I outlined doesn’t exist at our price-range. In an ideal world, we would take advantage of the absurd situation at Chelsea and pickup Kai Havertz on loan as that fits the criteria exactly - Striker and Attacking Midfielder in one (Richarlison also comes to mind). So here’s my best choices although none of them is exactly perfect for what we want.

Conclusion
Well... that was a long read, kudos for making it to the end. This summer looks to be another summer of transition - but there is a lot to this squad that is salvageable. After the Final, a lot of us were perfectly willing to blow up the team and start over, but that's not my take here. We were let down in that final by our squad depth - when preparing for penalties Mourinho looked at a bench that had Volpato, Tahirovic, Camara, Karsdorp and two goalkeepers - not exactly a stacked bench full of specialists. We can talk dirty play, bad refereeing, and poor penalties all day though, but what killed us at the final hurdle and indeed all season was our lack of depth. Rebuilding the squad is not a way to achieve that.
