Eulogy to my Father
2023.05.29 23:19 ferocious_puppy Eulogy to my Father
My father passed away last month at the age of 60. Although he had a number of illnesses, with one being from a young age, his death was unexpected. This is incredibly hard to come to terms with as I expect anyone on this subreddit would appreciate. Reading posts of some people on here who have lost loved ones at a young age or in terrible circumstances puts my loss in perspective but its still no less raw or devastating. I read a eulogy at my fathers funeral which I'm going to add below. It's long and most people won't read it but I just want to tell as many people as possible how amazing my father was. I have omitted any names from the eulogy and replaced with NAME. I will say though my dads name was Mark and I hope anyone who reads this sees how incredible he was.
Thank you all for coming.
My Dad was the person I looked up to the most, especially the older I got where I grew to appreciate the incredible man he was and how he lived his life. He had things very hard from a young age with multiple conditions, but he never let that define him. He appreciated the good things in his life, and not once did I ever hear him dwell on the bad that happened to him, his attitude was always to enjoy what he could surrounded by the people he loved for as long as he could no matter what was thrown his way. My dad possessed many qualities which include being kind, thoughtful, funny, loving and he is the strongest person mentally I’ve ever met and I’m proud and fortunate that he was my dad. The challenge to show those qualities became harder especially in the last few years but he never stopped living and being the man he always was, laughing, joking, and enjoying himself around his family.
His sense of humour was witty and dark, and he loved to wind people up, especially my mum. Even in his final hours he had his sense of humour. He was lying in bed that morning and he had a remote to move the bed into different positions. My mum heard him call her, so she went in and the remote was on the floor. My dad said sorry NAME can you pick it up, so she did. 10 minutes later she heard my dad call her again, so she went back in, the remote was on the floor again this time my dad had a grin on his face, my mum picked it up and gave it to him and warned him not to drop it again. He did of course drop it again and my mum saw a big smile on his face like he always had as she came back in. She knew he was winding her up and was smiling as well and I’m sure my dad thought about doing it again, but he knew one more time and it would be wrapped around his neck.
Two of my oldest memories I have of my dad are of stories he liked to tell because he found them funny to talk about over the years and I know he would like me to mention them. I don’t know whether it’s a coincidence they both involve alcohol, but he was a SURNAME so of course he enjoyed a drink.
The first is when I was around 5 and my dad and I were watching tv and he was enjoying a glass of whiskey. He went out to go to the bathroom and I seized my opportunity, grabbed the whiskey, and had a swig. My Dad came back into the room with me screaming it burns it burns pointing at the glass. My dad knew what needed to be done and rushed into action grabbing a can of lager and having me drink some to get rid of the whiskey taste. It did work to be fair and when I was older, I hated whiskey and enjoyed lager, which explains a lot.
The second story I want to share is another from when I was young. My dad would always go out drinking with his brothers NAME and NAME on boxing day. It was usually a nice casual drink and a chance for them to spend time together. However, on this occasion my dad got very drunk. So drunk his brothers had to carry him home which was an incredible feat by itself as he was not a small man. What was even more impressive is they managed to get him home but avoid my mum. They achieved this by leaving him sitting by the bins outside and knocking the door and running off. I don’t blame them, and I think it was a very smart move. However, what they didn’t expect was my dad to get up and manage to fall inside the bin. That was the sight that greeted my mum.
My dad was a great father to me and my sister NAME. He was limited physically in some of the things he could do with us but he more than made up for it in other ways and he was always there for us when we needed him. The only thing my father got wrong when NAME and I were growing up in my opinion is he should have been a bit harsher on NAME. She was always terrorizing me, and I was always calm and never did anything to instigate things, but she couldn’t be stopped. I think my father showed a bit of favouritism there.
At Christmas and other occasions, he enjoyed having everyone around and eating, drinking, playing games and having fun. Trivial pursuit was something he always wanted to play, probably because he would often win. He would always play as the blue counter, his favourite colour and if my nan was there which she usually was she would go on his team as she knew he would get everything right and she could sit back and sip her dissarano. I’m sorry nan but I really don’t think your going to win many games in future.
A memory of Christmas that sticks out is when we were playing a golf game on the Nintendo wii and it was my dads go. He was very competitive and put a lot of effort into his swing as he had to make up for the fact, he was playing sitting down. On this occasion he tried a bit too hard and also forgot to tighten the strap causing the wii remote to go flying off his wrist and straight into the tv destroying the screen. I will never forget the look on his face, a combination of shock and disbelief.
My dad also enjoyed playing real golf, many times with me and his son in law NAME but always with his mum. He caught the golf bug later in life but would play almost every week, sometimes twice a week for the part of the year they could use a buggy on the course. His father also used to go with them to drive the buggy and the sight of it all on the course was terrifying for others playing. A typical sight would be his father with his sunglasses on no matter the weather, driving the buggy with my dad in front and my nan sitting at the back trying to hold on as his father drove way to fast hitting every bump he could find and just about staying upright. He would then drop them off next to their drive which had gone maybe 50 yards at most, which considering their limitations wasn’t bad. They would play their shots with his father laughing hysterically and taunting them from the buggy as their balls went another 50 yards. To just be on the golf course playing with the pain my father was in and the limitations he had was an inspiration to me. He didn’t care what anyone else thought as he was doing what he enjoyed.
There are many more memories I could talk about and many more things he enjoyed doing but we’ll be here hours if I go into everything, and nobody wants that including me. NAME will go into more of my dad’s hobbies and life later, but I hope what the memories I’ve talked about show is how my dad loved being around his family and always lived life to the fullest. I wish we had more years with him, but I can say with confidence that he was happy and content that he had an excellent life.
There are a few milestones I want to talk about that I know would be important to my dad.
My Mum and Dad met working in a bakery. The day he got married to my mum I know he would have felt so lucky to have found someone he loved and could spend his life with or as my nan put it when preparing for today, he married the best tart in the bakery. They were always there for each other, and I know my dad would have very much appreciated the emotional support she gave him especially the last few years. It wasn’t easy for her either dealing with my dad’s illness but I’m so proud of my mum and dad for how they dealt with everything. Susan and I could not have wished for better parents.
The day my sister NAME and I were both born but especially me were big moments for my dad and changed his life forever, hopefully for the better but maybe not always. Also, important moments were when his Grandchildren NAME and NAME were born who may not know how lucky they are to have had my dad around for the time they did but they will when they are older as they look back to Grampys example and guidance.
My dad was so happy that NAME and I had both found what he had with my mum. For NAME it was NAME and for me it was NAME. NAME and I have chosen the easier option of having dogs rather than children which my dad, despite saying he never wanted a dog around or had any interest in them ended up loving having both NAME and NAME around. He would play with them despite it being hard for him and enjoyed taunting them with toys and chews and they would taunt him back by leaving things just out of reach for him.
The day my sister NAME and NAME got married was an emotional and wonderful day for my dad. Getting to walk his daughter down the aisle was a happy and proud moment for him. we didn’t know if he’d be able to do it beforehand, but he wasn’t going to miss the chance, so he got through it as he always did. My dad was not known for speaking in large crowds or being confident at it, in fact it was the opposite. However, the speech he gave at NAME wedding was incredible, funny, emotional, and memorable. He spoke from the heart without anything prepared and I am so proud he not only got through it but delivered an unforgettable speech.
There was never any pressure put on me or NAME. The only thing he wanted for us was to be happy and if we were happy that was ok for him.
I want to finish by sharing what some of his closest family wanted me to say on their behalf. This is their words read out by me.
His Wife NAME says, Mark was the love of my life, my soulmate with so many happy years together. Those years were rich with happy memories with our family. No more pain and suffering now my darling, rest now. My everlasting love always.
His daughter NAME says, I could not have asked for a better dad. You were always supportive and patient in everything I did. Your Grandchildren NAME and NAME will remember you as wise and funny, you always took an interest in what they liked. I will miss you incredibly, but you will forever be in my heart.
His Mother NAME says, Words cannot say how much I will miss you. I get comfort that you are not in any pain now. Sleep my darling until we are together again.
His brother NAME says, I will love and miss you always, brother.
His Brother NAME says, Dear Brother I will start by saying at least you are now at peace and pain free. You will be deeply missed by us all, after all you were the diplomatic one of the family. Mark was the most patient and calm member of us all and nothing was any bother for him to do. Love you Mark God bless you and thank you for being my brother, Love NAME.
His Son in law NAME says, thank you for welcoming me into your family with nothing but love and kindness. We shared a love for formula 1 and I’ll think of you whenever I’m watching a race.
His Niece NAME says, Uncle Mark was always kind and caring to me and you could tell how much he loved his family. Whenever I visited and complained about something he always found a way to spin it in a positive light and give me a new perspective. My last memory is of him in his chair putting his jumper on which got stuck after his arms were through. He made me jump because I thought he was headless and gave us all a good laugh. I feel lucky to have had him as an uncle.
Finally, for me he was my hero. I owe him everything. I couldn’t have wished for a better man to look up to and learn from. My respect for how he lived his life despite the challenges he faced is immeasurable. He never complained, never worried, never gave up, he lived his life to the maximum he could, doing the things he enjoyed around the people he loved right until the very end.
Dad I’m going to miss you beyond words and its going to be hard, but I will draw from what you taught me and live my life the best I can. It is said that a person is never truly gone as long as they are still talked about. Well, the impact You had on those around you means stories of you will be passed down for generations. The memories I have of you will stay in my head and the love and respect I have for you will remain in my heart forever.

2023.05.29 21:54 bb9873 My issues with the finale
After watching the finale, I really wanted to love it but ultimately I felt it had some major issues that meant it was quite underwhelming to me.
Firstly, in season 4 the major arc for Kendall's character is him becoming more Logan-like after he becomes CEO. He skilfully handles public speeches (the funeral and living+ launch), manipulates others into doing his bidding (e.g. Hugo and Colin), exerts emotional and physical abuse onto Roman (just like Logan did) and becomes further estranged from his children. This is a major development for him compared to the previous seasons and suggests he is finally becoming the killer Logan had envisaged for the CEO role. So what exactly is the point of all this character development for Kendall if he doesn't complete the transformation by becoming the CEO?. Why make it appear as if that Kendall is finally ready for the CEO position? The point of Shakespearean tragedies is that the characters have fundamental flaws that they can't overcome and which ultimately lead to their demise. This is the case for Kendall in the earlier seasons where his flaws ultimately prevent from being CEO. And yet in this season the writers go to great lengths to show how Kendall has overcome the mistakes he made in his first stint as CEO, but in the end snatch it away from him not because of his own mistakes but an abrupt 180 from his sister. In my opinion, this ending simply does not fit the arc of Kendall this season. It would have been more coherent if the writers showed Kendall making fundamental mistakes as CEO after Logans death. This would drive home the point that ultimately Kendall is unsuitable for a job he covets so much. Don't show him doing a decent job in his period as CEO if you want to emphasise he's not suitable for the job.
Secondly, I disliked how they repeated the trope of Ken losing a board meeting due to a last minute switch by a sibling. This happened in S1E06, only this time Roman is replaced by Shiv. To me this is simply lazy writing because there's so many other ways the siblings could have lost control without reusing a plot point from season 1.
Thirdly, Shivs abrupt turn on her brother needed more context. She is willing to install him as CEO in the Bahamas, and then doubles down when she hears Tom is the US CEO choice. Then she gets cold feet at the board meeting without any apparent explanation. I've seen people theorising numerous factors e.g. loyalty to Tom, spite, seeing Ken act cocky in Logans office etc but none of this is explained to the audience. All this would have required is an extra scene or two to signify her reasons. But the bigger issue is that her choice to betray her brother is simply nonsensical. Shiv is willing to do whatever it takes to get power, yet she chooses the option that gives her the least power. She was offered head of ATN news by Ken but is now the wife of a puppet CEO who could be easily replaced. People have defended this by saying that there is no reason for Shiv to trust Ken because she's already been left in the cold, but Matsson and Tom have already betrayed her too. Not to mention, that Shivs relationship with Tom is built on domination and power dynamics. She loves holding the power in the relationship but chooses the option that completely shifts the dynamics. It just doesn't fit her character.
Finally, its quite annoying that we didn't get a resolution to the election. This goes back to a critique I have with the show in general in which plot points are introduced which are suggested to have an impact but in the end they amount to nothing. This became a big issue for me with season 3. The season 2 ending suggested that the cruise scandal would fundamentally shift the characters positions and the overall status quo and yet the scandal was brushed over in season 3 and it amounted to nothing. And this happens throughout the show which really reduces the tension and stakes. Why should I care about the election when we're not told what happens with it? Why should I care about Gojo's fudgy Indian numbers when it's brushed over 2 episodes later? Why I should care that Tom and Shiv are about to get a divorce when they flip flop between staying with each other throughout season 4. The writers refused to deal with the consequences of the election in the finale just like they refused to deal with the consequences of many of the other plot points they introduced in the show.

2023.05.29 19:24 reluctantlyredundant Did ye aye?
2023.05.29 19:05 Revolutionary-Try505 Teeth.
If he had just decided to be a dentist, he could have turned out okay. Maybe.
Alec never went to school, but even though he was frowned upon and neglected from crucial experiences for his dream career, he still used to find a way to stay optimistic, just like how leaves would always grow back in beautiful colours after harsh and seemingly endless winters. But not anymore. He lived at the edges of a complex yet basic neighbourhood that felt more liminal than homelike; Every house always looked exactly the same as the one before, and this effect seemed to last infinitely, an endless road cowering between the walls of brick and trimmed hedges. The sky always seemed to be stuck in a perpetual state of dismay, with tints and tones of shadows projecting onto the environment below. His house, however, stuck out from the repeating patterns of the sky above and the formations of the basic houses around him. Alec’s house seemed different, felt different, even smelt differently to the others. Instead of evergreens in front of his house, he had chosen spring flowers so that he could watch them rot in the summer and freeze up in the winter. This left an inescapable fog of scents that would descend onto any person that passed by, an unappealing mixture of rotten foods and the slimy liquid found at the bottom of food bins. His actual house, the one inherited from his mother after her peaceful death, sat by in neglect and almost looked sad to look so far from picturesque.
His yard, and even the driveway both sat forgotten amidst the sea of weeds and tendrils, imprisoned.
Alec would leave the house once a day, at exactly 13:13. He looked young, unusually young, yet old and hunched at the same time. He always wore the same earl grey cardigan that faded his twisted form into the sky that cried above him. He stood silently, menacingly for hours on end, just looking out into the abyss above, his hands and pockets filled, even overflowing with old, stained teeth. To the old neighbours, the ones that had abandoned their homes within the first month of Alec’s appearance, he looked delusional, even psychopathic. This enigmatic ritual may have presented Alec like this, but it was far from the truth. Even though he had a lack of education, Alec was smart, dangerously smart, and presented himself like a lunatic man to avoid the ones looking for him, or their molars.
His mother. In her casket. Dead. Not alive. Not breathing.
“She doesn't deserve all this” Alec screamed at himself, confining the raw and unfiltered anger within his head, its minacious intent scratching and clawing at his mouth to open. He couldn't do anything to stop these thoughts, but knew they would be detrimental to his mother, even within the next few minutes. His fascination with teeth, something that had carried through from his childhood when he still believed in dreams and luck and wishes and fate, still brought him the ecstasy and joy it once did. He couldn't help it. Their pearly surface riddled with bumps and imperfections brought him a plethora of emotion, and enlarged his curiosity to a possessive extent, forcing, compelling him to do things he knew he shouldn't… He just wanted to see other peoples smiles without the cover of flesh and the shadow of a skull above. Just how their teeth smiled. Only their teeth.
His mother. Her mouth closed. Open. Closed again. Glancing around in fear with a lack of clarity and composure. Open again. It's cold inside. It's dry. He can feel them. He couldn't help it. He's sorry.
The last thing Alec remembered from that day is leaving his mother with her jaw at an inhumane angle, and the teeth digging and cutting into his hands, the new blood mixing with mothers dried saliva and oozing onto the floor, leaving a trail across the floor of the. The what? He didn't even care where his mothers funeral took place, not even where she had been placed into the earth, left to rot and be wasted amongst the other corpses that dotted the surface of the earth, or Alec's perception of it.
The teeth. They were the ones that filled every surface of his clothes, and left indentations on his now ruined hands. It gave him a sense of morality and hopelessness every time he saw the sight, for he knew that his past actions had left a scar upon him and his future, his vision of peace and relaxation now disfigured and clouded by the very thing he loved. Teeth. After sparking his fear and paranoia, Alec systematically counted every single tooth he had, and placed them, even pushed them into the very places they had once scarred. Like pieces in a puzzle, or that's what he thought. Begrudgingly, Alec paved his way through the swamp of overgrowth to reach the shell of a happy and welcoming home. The door, under which sat a burned and ruined doormat with the words `Welcome Home’ plastered across it, now barely legible, had a dilapidated frame that bent and pushed the older panels behind and to the side of it. Alec once promised his mother that he would fix it, but that was before her death and his succumbing to his true desires. No matter. Alec pushed past it anyway, shutting the bare panel of the door with an urgency, denying the faintest sliver of light into the murky labyrinth of objects before him. However, Alec ignored all this, just as he always had done. Instead, he began a long descent down a flight of stairs that seemed hidden deliberately, and the only lighting cast a sickly yellow wash over the already polluted steps that seemed to repeat similarly to the neighbourhood above. Alec was used to this, though, for he had taken this trip many times before, after finding it just before his mothers death, back when he was still studying to become a dentist, for the lowest qualification so he could finally do something and not expect to gain income or stability through luck. Back when he still hoped. Maybe.
Alec had been walking for miles now. The stairway around him morphed into hollow archways that directed into a vast panorama of nothingness, yet still the stairs continued to descend down into the void of the earth, the husk of a shell.
“Finally” Alec thought. That trip had taken a lot longer than anticipated, even for Alec. His hands, now freshly corroded and eaten by his mothers teeth, had been lying uselessly at his sides since the mustard lights had faded from functionality, the arms that were once his were at a downward angle gushing out drips of crimson that had been soaked up by the now brown and grimy cardigan he wore. This abominable sight no longer struck him in odd ways, the lack of emotion a mirror that reflected the void he felt inside without his one true love. Since he had taken longer on the descent, he felt at a loss for what to do, only to slip through the hole in the wall that had appeared to Alec’s vision in the darkness that had descended over Alec as he had trekked deeper into the “basement”. The hole was overrun by mould and rust, and the now infected brick crumbled away at the slightest touch. It gave out an indistinguishable scent, something so piercing and detrimental to the senses that you were left walking blindly in the already visionless tunnel. It was a thin wall, however, and the grimy coat of algae that covered every surface had disappeared from existence the further that Alec walked. To Alec, the tunnel’s walls always felt slightly tighter and more confining the larger distance you travelled, as if the walls themselves were hunting the trespasser within, unhappy to have visitors.
The dirty floor had long since transformed into a smooth tiled surface, and the deeper Alec had walked the brighter the light in front of him had become. He barely fit within the tunnel now, the walls squeezing his own body into impossible shapes and proportions. His hunger had grown, and with each crawl forward it increased further, with it slowly absorbing his entire body until it had taken it for control. He remembered scratching at the walls so as not to lose his sense of direction, the blood from the cuts staining underneath his fingernails and splattering on the surfaces around him.
He had finally made it. Alec had done it. He was in the room. The right place. At last. Maybe? Through his starvation and pain, he managed to make out a room that looked not dissimilar to the layout of a supermarket, with different isles and shelves dotting the clean, perfect floor that appeared so close yet so far away, like the bottom of a fountain overflowing with old coins whose dulled surfaces appeared luminous yet dark within the shadows of the fountains basin. Although he was the one to dedicate all the will money to this area, it still surprised him with its beauty and luxury. However, Alec’s conception of this environment was entirely different. In reality, the “supermarket” appeared despondent, restricted to a lack of cleanliness and sanitation, every surface covered in sheets of dust, like how ash settles on everything after a fire. To Alec, the room seemed like a haven, or even his version of heaven on earth, but in reality it was crumbling and decomposing through the thick air that was barely penetrated by the small LED light that hung from the ceiling, on a rusty, half eaten chain. The isles below sat in perpetuity, frozen within the muggy air infested with moths and swirls of grime. On these isles, there lay his lover. Teeth. Just teeth. Only teeth. They had been stored in jars, row after row of piles of teeth, just there, and they watched as Alec moved towards them in a possessed, enthralled manner. They watched as he took no time and dropped his mothers teeth into a coexisting pile on the floor, the molars and canines of other people mixing into one another. The teeth watched as Alec cried in euphoria, as he chose a new set of teeth to use tomorrow. He chose his fathers.
Alec barely knew his father, but in the times he had seen him on the miniscule television screen he had sat at for hours as a child, he knew that his father loved himself more than others, but more importantly that he also had an obsession with teeth. He too was a dentist, he too would always stare into people's mouths as they talked, drawn in by the bumps and ridges across the surfaces of the stones that lay within peoples mouths. His father judged people by their teeth, whether or not they cared and looked after them or if they just did nothing. That's probably why Alec hated his own teeth. He blamed himself for his father and his mothers divorce, for the downfall of a once happy family. Because of his teeth. That's probably why Alec ripped all his teeth out. Because his father made him hate his teeth.
Alec, his mind swimming in the trauma and suffering he faced as a child, stumbled across the supermarket holding the new jar and dropped to his knees, whilst the blood from his hands made the contents of the jar and the near surroundings burst with a new colour of a deep, red crimson. Breathless, he cried there for a while, rejoicing in the memories of his past with a newfound sense of fear and disgust at his similarities to his father. The void within him and the hunger had subdued slightly, allowing the humanity within him to sympathise for his far past. The floor around him no longer looked clean to Alec’s own imagination; he could finally make sense of the blood and muck that had oxidised and hardened around him, or the putrid environment he resided in. He hated it. He wanted this all to stop. He said he was sorry. Didn’t he?
Alec just laid there for hours as he clutched the jar of teeth in one hand, and with the other he scratched endlessly at the dried blood and cuts on his hands, hoping, praying that it would leave his skin. It must have been hours before he moved again. The already dimmed light seemed to have dimmed further, to almost replicate the darkness somewhere above him. Slowly, barely, Alec shifted his entire body across the room, to the centre of the supermarket floor, where there lay a mirror. Its surface was a spider's web; the cracks and scratches a network of tunnels across the reflection of Alec as he stared deep into his own mouth. The mouth that lacked teeth. The mouth that was swollen, so swollen. The mouth that was filled with greens and blues and purples and reds; deep, infinite reds that seeped out and flooded the mirror below, Alec’s reflection drowning in its own blood.
Alec saw this as true beauty. His hunger, his longing and obsession had overwhelmed him again. It made him feel happy, and it made him smile. A deep, endless, sadistic smile that showed his rotten and infected gums, a smile that reflected his knowledge in a blood-curdling, horrific way. A smile on the face of a person that knew absolutely nothing, yet knew absolutely everything about you. A smile on the face of a faceless person, of a person that has isolated themselves from society for so long, in an illusion of a neighbourhood and the fake existence of neighbours, and a basement, or even the existence of a supermarket in the first place. The only real things were the teeth, the teeth that now had spilled from the jar onto the mirror, islands amidst the red sea. Alec picked one up.
“If they were my fathers teeth, and if he was always so sure of himself, then they must be nice teeth”, he thought. Convinced, he slowly placed it into his mouth, the sharp edges cutting his gums further, but trapping themselves in it. He repeated this. Again and again, tooth after tooth until every single one had a place inside his mouth. He didn't care whether they were not his, or if the blood from his gums covered up their pearly white quality, as long as he knew they were nice teeth and he could finally smile without getting looks of disgust and fear from others. If only he had become a dentist, where he could always wear surgical masks or look at other peoples teeth for free, he might have not ripped out his own teeth. Or his mothers teeth, for that matter. Or his fathers. Or his brothers. Or his wifes. Or his sons.
Satisfied, Alec left the supermarket with his new teeth in his gums, ready and happy to repeat it all tomorrow. He walked back through the tunnel, now as wide as they ever really were, in the direction of a light that was never really there.

- Sidenote: In an old episode of this show, not knowing Bam would be working with Mark the Bagger in the future, Bam discloses that while working at the grocery store, Mark was caught luring a child into the back and having the child perform oral sex on him. There were no charges filed because, “He’s Retarded”.
- Bam plays more audio involving the Bagger and Pop-Pop. “Daddy Noooooo!”

THE SOUNDS – TRACK 2 - 80’s vice vaper wave intro
- The guys play HD female moans and sucking sounds, which turns Bill on as he starts looking around the studio to see which girl made those noises. “I’m a very emotional person!”
- Dico starts handing out small snacks that he's brought from home, Bam doesn’t normally eat at home due to his Bulimia.
- “Let me guess: some sort of experiment?” “Spearmint? I’d rather have Wintergreen!”
- Hanna’s Hilarious Laugh from the first film Haggard is played.
- Gina Lynn, the porn star featured in Bam’s new film, brought a whole bunch of her sex toys and porn she’s featured in. Bam likes to scatter them around the castle for fun along with the tranny pornos he’s gotten from his Hustler interview.
- Gina Lynn and her husband Chad have open and graphic conversations about their sex lives and personal lives including domestic violence resulting in hospitalizations.
BLOODHOUND GANG - ????
- While shooting Johnny Knoxville’s cover for the rolling stone, Dico and Bam were cornered by ‘some faggot’ promoting an internet soap opera, he even demanded they take some of his autographed posters.
- The guys promptly threw the posters in the thrash can closest to the front door so the guy could see it in the way out.
- Bill gets amped about the fight and squeezes Chad’s Cheese steak again. - ShitGoose was overheard by Buddy Bill telling Bam’s Mom April that Bam was snorting too much Adderall and drinking too much.
- When confronted by Bam, ShitGoose denies these allegations, but once Buddy Bill heard his denials, he tells ShitGoose he overheard the conversation between him and April.
- ShitGoose begins to cry and confess stating that he was just worried about Bam’s drug and alcohol consumption.
- Later that night though, after mixing alcohol and Klonopin, ShitGoose was seen rolling in hay and attempting to break dance.
- Seth Meisterman and his girlfriend Salina have some goats on Bam’s property. While ShitGoose was fucked up on Klonopin and alcohol, he let his large dog 'White Fang' loose and it ended up killing one of the baby goats.
- Chad believes the last episode of Radio Bam was too harsh on ShitGoose. “you gotta love the guy”.
- Gina Lynn was covered in stripper pole bruises and wore a skirt that was soo short that it was ‘above the ass line’ according to Missy. Her tits also kept gaming out during filming so Bam is considering making the movie rated R instead of PG-13
- Gina needed underwear because her pussy kept popping out as well (doesn’t wear underwear). So Missy let her use one of her sexy pair of boy shorts underwear, but after she returned them to Missy someone stole them.
- While filming for MingHags, Dico pissed in lindens drinks most of the evening and he had no idea.
- The guys discuss how they will be individually screening the movie at their houses once it is finished.
- “I have a nose problem!” buddy bills breakable nose and the drugs that have been through it to cause his brain aneurysm.
- After playing video games all night on cocaine with a lady, Buddy Bill went to the bathroom to piss, next thing he knew he was on the ground covered in piss and couldn’t see colors. Turns out he had a brain aneurysm.
- Linden starts instigating Buddy Bill to see if he can hit him in his nose again.
- Buddy Bill plugs his boxing match at the double tree hotel this Friday! He’s fighting a buddy he has a motorcross grudge against.
- Buddy Bill had heard awful things about this particular boxing organization if they don't get their fighter money back, or the ticket money back.
GNARKILL – GAY FAGS End of show

2023.05.29 17:40 pogo6023 Remembering a fallen Alabama veteran
Rafael Parker of the Massey Community in North Alabama was my uncle who died in North Africa in combat against the Germans in the early 1940s. It happened around the time I was born. Unfortunately, I never met him, but he was my father's brother and I remember well the day his body arrived home after the war, and his funeral with full military honors. I wanted to remember him on this Memorial Day, and pass his name along to others who didn't know him. He was a good man whose life was cut short much too early.

2023.05.29 14:38 MoheMasoud [Letter]
Hey Dr. Jordan.
First of all, the name Jordan is a beautiful name i think. I'm a 34 years old male from Israel. Call me mohe. I work hard each day of my life, married with 2 astonishing boy and girl. My wife is pretty and kind to me. I work as a police investigation officer here in the capital. I'm writing you for 3 reasons: First of all, to say Thank you for being you, for helping me through tough times in the past and in what i'm enduring now and in present days... You have been the voice of reason, objectiveness, reapect while pushing science and facts forward. I like listening to you on Youtube and i got 2 of your book and read them immediately. I found the 12 rules for life simple but very correct and on point. I connected to almost evert sentence you said, it's like i knew what you about to say (also in audiobook) before you said it.
Secondly, i seek directions! My father whom has been ill for long long time, suffered a lot of pain, because several conditions one of them brain strocks and half paralyzed, DIED a month and half ago!!
I loved him, he was extremely kind to all even people who treated him disrespectfully. He always told me, before you judge, put your self in their shoes! He invested a lot in his home and family. And he died in a sunny normal day unexpectedly, between my arms while i tried to do my best to save him. I saw the last breath (here we call that the soul) leaving him! I took care of him for the best of my abilities in the past 3 years, showered him, changed his dippers and feed him and took him places and more, while my brothers did little for him which angers me. I remember, you said, one of the hardest things to achieve and a sign of strength is to be the strongest & the most reliable person in your father's funeral. I tried to live by those words each hour passed after his death and i think i did well, i'm the youngest of my brothers but they always referred to me in any matters to solve them. But...deep down it's hard for me! I miss him. Home is empty! He suffered alot! I told him only one thing over and over again while he slept on the cold floor without heartbeat with his blue eyes still open and looking at me - Forgive me! Forgive me for not doing more! I didn't expected this experience to have such a scar and impact on me. I'm a strong man overall i endure a lot of things, but this one feels different.
Above and to add furthermore...I don't feel fulfilled at my job and work. I hate what i do. I work far from my town, my bosses seem like they care about anything but me, even tho i give it all at work, i'm still unappreciated. And the things that i do and decisions that i take are not aligned with my values and principles. I attent my work with almost 0 motivation. But on the other hand all my friends and brother and a lot at my village work in such jobs and it's what the small community expect from me. I know that the devil that i don't know are not always bigger that the one that i already know, you said that a lot. But still i'm not sure. So quiting and starting over feels like a bad idea sometimes. I don't know what to do, i feel strangled and energy-empty, which surprise me, because i always been funny and good hearted and nice person. Both matters combined, work and family issues, are heavy on me. I don't know what to do regarding my father's death and my work. Thank god i have a supporting family so far.
And thirdly, when are you gonna come to Israel?! I would like to meet you and listen to your lectures in person. I think i watched almost all your videos on YouTube!!
Thanks again.

2023.05.29 14:14 FrenchBunnyBallerina Am I the asshole for “ruining family events”
I, female 23 and married to male 33, however he really has nothing to do with this story. It’s my sister in law Female (35) who we’ll call SIL for this story, because I’m not typing sister in law every time I reference her. I’m tired lol.
I recently had my first child. It was amazing and fantastic, he was a NICU baby so I’m extra cautious. I probably annoyed family by not inviting them over to see the baby (I never arranged a date but Easter happened when he was around four months old, so they all saw him there; however I did not offer for anyone to hold him and no one asked.
SIL has had two children already and was pregnant with her third. I have known Anna since I was 12 and she was getting married to my older brother and knew she came from a very conservative family. She has always breastfed with a cover around our family, however at the Easter table I breast fed my child. I will say he latched right away, I was somewhat restricted view from my place at the table in my grandmothers house anyway. He was quick to latch, due to having so much practice- my point being Minimal time my whole boob was exposed (maybe 30 seconds at most). When I said “oop someone’s hungry, baby do you want some milk” her youngest child (boy 6) asked “how does someone only eat milk” and I answered “it’s kinda like a protein shake”.
I would like to add SIL is expecting another baby and I assumed that she would feed her baby as normal in her home without covering (maybe I assumed wrong).
She didn’t say anything at the time about home openly breastfeeding (which I was a little shocked at) but frankly I’m not feeding my child with a cover over his head in my own home. I will cover out of respect for others in two places (church, and then the one time I went to a family funeral). I invite anyone who disagrees with my policy to eat a meal with a blanket over their head.
She also corrected me when I made her child wash his hands before sitting down to eat (we do family style buffet line) and made him take the dinner roll he touched on a separate plate instead of putting it back on the main serving tray (her kids are ALWAYS SICK).
Anyways queue to this weekend. We have always grilled out on Memorial Day as a family for as long as I can remember. This year my mom had already bought all the steaks and all the food before they announced they had “other plans as a family”, which is the same excuse they used a few years ago after they didn’t come to Christmas due to wedding drama after I got married (I chose very small very private and frankly would’ve eloped in Europe if my parents had let me).
So, am I the asshole for ruining events by breastfeeding my child?

2023.05.29 06:25 Affectionate_Cry_144 I hate every one of my siblings
I hate all 3 of my siblings. I am 29, my siblings are all in their 40's. I became my mothers primary caregiver when I was 14. I would go to school, come home amd take care of her. Just as I was getting old enough to drive, she lost her ability to drive so I became her taxi. I made all doctors appointments, all medical decisions and planned all outings to attempt to keep her from getting depressed and being stuck in the house. I love my mom deeply and I've never regretted it. She was a single mom to all 4 of us and always did whatever was necessary to take care of us. She quite literally would've crossed oceans for anyone of us.
When I turned 24 she got very sick, very fast. One of my brothers lived with us, the other brother lived about 20 mins away, and my sister lived an hour away. They all left me to make the decision to take her to the hospital, left me to bring her back home and figure out meds and a new routine. She got sick again and they left me to figure out the hospital again, go see her everyday (she was in there for months) and pick out a nursing home. Then they left me to pull her out when the home was mistreating her and I had to figure out therapists and how to take care of her on my own at home and still work to keep a roof over our head. Had to go to the hospital again, decide on a surgery, take phone calls from doctors, be there to speak to doctors. Then they left me to decide to pull the plug by myself, pick out a funeral home by myself and pack up our house by myself when she passed.
My now husband proposed to me in October of 2017, she got sick beginning in January 2018 and ultimately passed away in July of 2018. What was supposed to be one of the best periods of my life was filled with loneliness, grief and just anger. Angry because my mom was my best friend and I knew she was dying. Angry because all she ever did was be good to us and my siblings are fucking assholes who don't give a shit. Angry because if I hadn't had my fiance by my side then I would've had no one. Angry because my mom passed away 3 months before my wedding.
I hate my siblings for leaving me to try and manage everything on my own. Not sure if I can ever forgive them. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to care for my mom but im so sad that she noticed that my siblings didn't care about her or anyone else.

2023.05.29 04:20 Delicious-Length-392 Savannah or Atlanta Suburbs?
Hey there! My husband and I are 26 years old and are moving to Georgia! We currently live in SWFL and for many many reasons, are leaving.
We found that his career field offers a lot more opportunities, growth and higher pay in Georgia. Our town and surrounding neighborhoods also have a median age of 70. So it’s not family friendly at all. We have almost no community here. Plus, the housing costs here have dramatically increased with so many people moving here and the cost of home owners insurance went up about 40%.
We just came back from about a week trip to visit the area since my husbands family lives in Georgia and we feel much more comfortable with the affordability with either of these areas.
My husbands job will either be in Atlanta or Savannah, so we would probably move to a nearby suburb. Which would you pick and where do you recommend?
Spill the tea please.

Advice for Planning Your Move
Moving to a new state can be an exciting and challenging experience. Here are some tips to help you plan your move to Georgia:
- Research the Area: Before you move to Georgia, it’s a good idea to research the area you’ll be living in. Learn about the local schools, healthcare providers, and other important amenities. You can also research the crime rate in the area to make sure you’re moving to a safe neighborhood.
- Budget for Your Move: Moving can be expensive, so it’s important to budget for your move in advance. This may include the cost of hiring a moving company, renting a moving truck, or purchasing packing supplies. You should also factor in any additional expenses, such as storage costs or temporary housing.
- Declutter Your Home: Moving is the perfect time to get rid of any items you no longer need. Go through your belongings and donate or sell anything you don’t want to take with you. This will not only save you money on moving costs, but it will also make your new home feel less cluttered.
- Create a Moving Checklist: Moving involves a lot of tasks, so it’s important to create a checklist to stay organized. This should include tasks such as packing, notifying utility companies of your move, and updating your address with the post office.
- Get Moving Quotes: If you’re planning on hiring a moving company, it’s important to get quotes from several different companies. This will allow you to compare prices and choose the company that best fits your needs and budget.
- Consider Using a Moving Service: If you’re looking for a more affordable option for your move, consider using a moving service like Moving Truck Driver. This service specializes in driving U-Haul and Penske rental trucks for people looking to move, which can save you a lot of money compared to hiring a full-service moving company.
By following these tips, you can help ensure that your move to Georgia goes smoothly and stress-free.
Creating a Moving Checklist
Creating a moving checklist is an essential step in the moving process. It helps you stay organized and on track, so you don’t forget any important tasks. Here are some tips for creating a comprehensive moving checklist:
- Start Early: The earlier you start creating your moving checklist, the better. Ideally, you should begin at least two months before your move date. This will give you plenty of time to complete all the necessary tasks without feeling rushed.
- Break it Down: Creating a long, overwhelming list of tasks can be daunting. Instead, break your moving checklist down into manageable chunks. For example, you could create separate sections for packing, notifying utility companies, and updating your address.
- Be Specific: When creating your checklist, be as specific as possible. Instead of simply writing “pack,” break it down into specific tasks like “pack books,” “pack dishes,” and “pack clothes.” This will help you stay focused and ensure that everything gets packed properly.
- Prioritize Tasks: Not all tasks on your moving checklist are created equal. Prioritize the most important tasks first, such as booking a moving truck or notifying your landlord of your move. This will help ensure that you get the most important tasks done first, and avoid last-minute panic.
- Set Deadlines: To keep yourself on track, set deadlines for each task on your moving checklist. This will help you stay motivated and ensure that you’re making progress toward your move date.
- Get Help: Moving can be overwhelming, so don’t be afraid to ask for help. Enlist family members or friends to help you with packing and other tasks. You can also consider hiring a professional packing service to help you get the job done.
Researching Your New Neighborhood
Researching your new neighborhood is an important step when moving to Georgia. Here are some tips to help you research and get to know your new community:
- Look Up Local Amenities: Start by researching local amenities like schools, healthcare providers, grocery stores, and public transportation. This will give you an idea of what’s available in the area and help you plan your move accordingly.
- Check Out Local Events: Check out the local calendar of events to get a sense of the community’s culture and activities. This can also be a great way to meet new people and make connections in your new community.
- Learn About the History: Georgia has a rich history, and learning about it can help you appreciate your new home. Research local historical sites and landmarks, and plan to visit them once you arrive.
- Check Crime Rates: No one wants to move to an unsafe neighborhood. Research the crime rates in your new community to make sure you’re moving to a safe area.
- Join Local Facebook Groups: Joining local Facebook groups can be a great way to connect with other residents and get a sense of what life is like in your new neighborhood. You can ask for recommendations on everything from restaurants to dentists and get a sense of the community’s vibe.
- Visit Your New Community: If possible, plan a visit to your new community before your move. This will give you a chance to explore the area and get a feel for what it’s like to live there.
By following these tips, you can get to know your new community and ensure that you’re making an informed decision about where to live in Georgia.
Conclusion
In conclusion, moving to Georgia can be an exciting adventure, but it can also be a stressful process. By following the tips outlined in this article, you can make moving to Georgia as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Start by creating a comprehensive moving checklist and breaking down your tasks into manageable chunks. Prioritize your most important tasks and set deadlines to keep yourself on track. Research your new neighborhood and get to know the local amenities, events, and history. Join local Facebook groups to connect with other residents and get a sense of what life is like in your new community.
When it comes to finding housing, consider using a reputable moving service like Moving Truck Driver, which specializes in driving U-Haul and Penske rental trucks for people looking to move. This can help you streamline the moving process and make your transition to your new home in Georgia as smooth as possible.
In conclusion, by taking the time to plan and prepare for your move to Georgia, you can ensure that you’re making an informed decision about where to live and that your move is as stress-free as possible. Good luck with your move, and welcome to Georgia!

2023.05.29 01:15 Hamon4 AITA for being upset that my family scattered my grandmothers ashes without me
I (23f) unfortunately lost my grandmother 2 months ago. She had been unwell for around a year and the death was expected however she was young and active so still a shock. It is also worth noting that I am studying to be a doctor (set to graduate this year) so I was aware of my grandmothers prognosis earlier than the rest of my family.
I have been visiting my parents and family this week and staying with them as I live/study/work around 5 hours away. The decision was made to scatter my grandmothers ashes this morning. I honestly probably wouldn’t have made the journey for this alone but since I was already staying I was keen to be included with the rest of the family that wanted to join.
We had planned to meet at 11 this morning so I woke up at 9:30 to get ready. My mother and brother were both not home when I woke up which I thought was strange but I got dressed assuming they would be back to drive together as we had arranged.
I have since been told that the time everyone was meeting had changed form 11 to 10am but nobody had told me that the time had changed.
I’ve been avoiding my mum all day for not telling me that the time had changed and I’m devastated that I didn’t get to say goodbye for the last time. I understand that scattering ashes is probably not that big of a deal but due to my career choice I’ve been very stoic through everything including driving my cousins around for the funeral and wake as I was ‘the strong one’ and ‘used to death’. I suppose I was hoping that this more low-key goodbye might’ve been the chance I got to properly say goodbye without worrying about my emotions getting in the way for myself and others.
I know my mum has been understandably upset about losing her mum so it might’ve been a genuine mistake but AITA for being upset?

2023.05.29 01:08 MyFuneralHomeStories Chapter Two: three drinks, Two dead & One Candy Bar
I was pouring drink number three when my phone rang… I'm 20 years old, a little drunk and in about an hour, I will have almost shot my colleague in the chest in front of three police officers and two frozen dead bodies. Weird. I can't say that I'm mentally ready for what I'm about to see this evening, who’s ever really ready to walk into a garage with a Chevy Cavalier riddled with bullets and two frozen gang bangers inside. My name is Grant and These are My Funeral Home Stories.
Chapter Two: three drinks, Two dead & One Candy Bar It's about six o'clock on the 3rd Tuesday in February and factoring in the windchill, it's negative 14 degrees outside. I've been off of work for about an hour and I'm not on call tonight…So naturally, I'm just finishing up my second drink and considering whether to order pizza or Chinese tonight. I use my finger to stop by drink from bubbling over and the phone rings. It’s Andy, one of the directors from the funeral home that’s on call when Ned and I are off AND apparently the person he's on call with this evening is unreachable…If it's your job to be on call, you don't want this to happen. It's almost the equivalent of a no call no show at any other job. If you're on call, the only thing you have to do is wait for the phone to ring and when it does ring, you answer it. It’s really not that hard.
Andy is calling me to ask if I would fill in and go on a police call with him. There was a shooting and apparently there are two frozen dead bodies in a car… inside the police station. OK. Why are they at the police station? Great question. Apparently it was too cold outside to investigate and process the crime scene so they moved the crime scene into a heated garage inside a police station. This all sounds incredibly interesting to me but there's only one problem… I'm drunk. Well, on my way to drunk and I'm not old enough to drink. I'm not going anywhere near a police station. I explained to Andy that I'm in no condition to drive to the funeral home and he'd have to find someone else. He interrupted me and said, “ but you're not old enough to drink. Stay put. I'm picking you up. See you in 10.” He hung up the phone before I had time to argue.
Welp. Looks like I'm going to the police station against all better judgment. I finish my third drink as I put on my black 3 button double breasted black suit by Chaps that I picked up at Kohls. (Side note: all my other suits were at the dry cleaners. I hate this suit. It makes me look like a walking rectangle.) It's our funeral home’s policy that we dress cleanly and professionally while in public. This means you ruin a lot of good dress clothes but at least you look sharp… and you can write off your dry cleaning as a job related expense.
I run a razor over my face sans shaving cream because I’m in a hurry and our funeral home also has a strict no facial hair policy. No mustaches, no goatees and definitely no beards. I'm not sure why this is a rule, It just is. I take an extra long look at myself in the mirror to make sure I have myself in order. The last thing I want to do tonight is walk into a police station looking like a sloppy, drunk unshaven underage mess. Could I get fired for getting an underage drinking ticket while on a death call? I sure hope not. I hear a horn honking in the driveway. I peak out the front window, Andy’s out front in our 2004 black Pontiac minivan. It’s a pretty slick…Instead of back seats, our van has a polished oak floor with rollers spaced evenly down the length of the van. These rollers aid in sliding caskets in and out without scratching the van or caskets.
I’m almost ready. I decided to wear a heavy wool four button top coat, scarf and rubberized dress boots by Ecco, all black of course. (Side note: Always spend extra money on ‘nicer’ boots. You don't want your socks wet on death calls.) Although I hate the suit I have on, I am wearing my favorite necktie. It's white, black and navy blue diagonally striped made from handwoven silk by Ralph Lauren. Very sharp. Remember this tie…
my favorite tie, it’ll come up again later. On my way out the door I stuffed a handful of garlic flavored chips in my mouth and pulled a Nestle Butterfinger candy bar out of the pantry. The garlic will help cover up the three Jack and Cokes I just had and put a little food in my stomach. The Butterfinger…well, that's my reward. I'll eat it on the way home. I fucking love Butterfingers and why not reward myself for what I'm about to do? I'm not even on call tonight. I deserve it.
From my house to the police station, it’s about 10 minutes… a straight shot with no traffic. Andy starts nervously giggling almost immediately when my door closes and buckle my seatbelt. Funeral Directors are generally interesting people but our pal, Andy, he's a real card. I'm going to tell you a few things about Andy and hopefully won't sound too judgmental in the process. Andy had a gastric bypass surgery three years ago and as has lost about 150 pounds andI don't think he's gone clothes shopping since his weight loss. All of his suits look like they're about five sizes too big. His skin is loose around his jawline giving him a permanent droopy dog expression. It's weird seeing someone whose clothes and skin don't fit their body. He's a nervous guy and he's always afraid of getting in trouble…but somehow he's blindly confident. That's it for the positives.
Andy talks the most deliberate and malicious shit about everyone in the office. It's pathological at this point, I'm not sure he's even aware of it. You really have to watch what you say around this guy… I mean, if you don't want it repeated or used against you, don't say it around Andy. Andy's jumped from funeral home to funeral home around the country settling in towns just long enough to fuck things up and make a quick exit. He’s was a total creep and we found out a few years later that he was stealing from one of our funeral homes. He had his moments but for the most part, I didn't want anything to do with this guy…Especially after drinking almost half of my $36 bottle of Gentleman Jack. Actually, I'm probably just drunk enough to enjoy his company.
We turn on to Roosevelt, the police station is on our right. Andy has managed to keep the van under control even with the several inches of black ice and snow covering the roads. Andy tells me that we're to call a number when we're outside the police station parking garage and an officer will open the giant chain gate to let us in. The car with the dead bodies is in a separate heated garage inside the building to thaw out for processing.
It just dawned on me, I'm kind of hammered and last time I checked I'm
still not old enough to drink… I feel my anxiety levels rising…I’m not super eager to walk into a police station in my current condition. My plan is to keep my head down and stay as far out of the officers’ breath smelling distance as possible. I'm so happy I decided to eat those chips before I left. I can still taste the garlic. Garlic breath is better than booze breath. I'm fairly certain they won't lock me up for having bad breath.
Andy calls the number, the gate opens and we drive down a pretty drastic slope and enter the garage filled with a fleet of police cars. There must be 40 decked out Chevy Impalas polished up and ready for dispatch. We pull forward and an officer signals us to stop next to a plain gray door in the center of a the cinder block wall on our right. Andy loaded two stretchers in the van this evening. One standard, one oversized, we get out of the van and unload both without incident. The officer walks to the back of the van and tells us to follow him.
We walk through the gray door and quickly move through three different beige hallways, no windows, just ugly plain cinderblock. I realized that I've completely lost my bearings. When we come to the end of the hallway with another gray door. I feel a combination of claustrophobia and vertigo hit me all at once or maybe that was drink number three kickin’ in. The officer opens the door and Andy and I wheel our stretchers into a 20 by 20 garage lit by the brightest fluorescent lights I've ever experienced. The temperature of the light in this room is unnerving among other things.
'Welcome to the crime lab garage' I think to myself. Immediately upon entering the room, I'm almost knocked to the floor by a smell that burns my nasal cavities. It wasn't the smell of rotting flesh or piss and shit, I’ve smelled all those things before. This was new. It’s so unique but the more Im exposed to it the more I realize I’ve smelled this before at the funeral home but I can’t place it….Then it hits me almost as intensely as the smell itself. Ammonia, that's it! It smells like someone took two or three large bottles of ammonia and just poured them all over the room. I look at Andy as we park the stretchers. We make eye contact and I pointed my nose while simultaneously making a confused face. “What the fuck is that?” I whisper.
Andy pulls two pair of blue heavy duty surgical gloves out of the front pocket of his stretcher, hands me a pair and then proceeds to blow my mind. He quietly tells me that the strong ammonia odor is coming from the blood. Apparently when someone dies suddenly all the blood cells in the body make one last screaming effort to stay alive and dump a ton of waste into the bloodstream. The waste is what gives the blood a strong scent of ammonia. You know when someone says they can smell blood in a movie or TV show? I think If this is what they're talking about.
Now that I have my gloves on and have adjusted to the smell, I take off my overcoat and suit jacket and tuck my tie between two buttons on my white dress shirt. This is simply precautionary. There is nothing worse than dipping your tie into something gross. It's almost always UNcleanable.
In this moment, I'm able to take in my surroundings. Perhaps it's the alcohol but something feels off. Under rows and rows of fluorescent lights there’s a maroon Chevy Cavalier riddled with bullet holes with all four of its doors and trunk wide open. Upon initial inspection, my eyes are drawn to two dead men in the backseat and rusted hood with a smattering of bullet holes. It seems that most of the shots were through the windshield, windows and door panels. The windshield is barely able to hold itself up.
Andy and I walk around the car to figure out our plan of attack. He flips open a black vinyl body bag, unzips it and places it on the ground next to the car and he tells me his plan. “If they’re frozen in a seated position, we won't be able to move em that easily… So we'll wiggle them out, lay them on the body bags and zip up the disaster pouch around them.” This sounds good to me. We move in.
We decided to start with the body in the driver's side backseat. The door’s already open and the hinges appear to be hyper extended. The crime scene techs probably bent the hinges while they were scrubbing the scene. Now up close, I’m finally able to take in the two dead men sitting in the backseat in front of me. These guys must have been a couple years older than me, both wearing Timberlands, black jeans and black jackets… like big puffy down jackets. One man has a New Era baseball cap on backwards while the other has a black stocking cap atop his head. I didn't see any logos but the brain matter, bullet holes and blood may have made it hard to notice. The ammonia smell inside the car is completely overwhelming. Blood is literally covering everything in the backseat. Chunks of thawing brain and meat are all over the headrest. I pick up a piece near the seat belt and squeeze it with my middle finger and thumb. It's still a little frozen so it crunches a bit before turning into mush between my fingers. I wiped my hand on a clean part of the interior.
Bullet holes are weird…For something that can end your life so quickly, they don't leave much of a mark on their way in…BUT the way out is a totally different story. I have no idea how many times these men were shot but they’re covered and destroyed by bullet holes. Chin, hands, thighs under the eyeballs and everywhere else. There wasn’t a part of either of these men’s bodies that didn’t have at least one bullet hole… I didn't see their feet though…if I’m being completely transparent.
This is gore. This is a complete horror show. Someone wanted these men dead… like seriously dead. Was it the driver or could it have been the front seat passenger? There must have been someone sitting in the front seat, right? Why else would two grown men sit in the backseat together if there was an open front seat? By the number of holes, I come to the conclusion that at least two people had to have shot up this car….Far too many holes for one shooter and it was definitely people they thought they were close to…
With half my body in the car, the smell of ammonia is blending with the smell of shit…which is undoubtedly oozing from one or all of the many holes in these men's stomachs. Thankfully, the taste of the garlic chips and whiskey I had earlier keeping me from gagging. Both men looked like they were sleeping like someone's dad or brother in the backseat on a road trip but riddled with holes and covered and smelly blood and falling human chunks.
There's only enough room for one of us in the car’s backseat door opening so Andy gets in the driver's seat backwards and reaches back around the front seat to help shimmy the body out. I press the button and unbuckle the seatbelt, it whips back into its home position startling Andy and I. Everything in this car is covered with blood or some sort of human matter. My gloves are literally covered in blood from just unbuckling the seatbelt and now the taste of the ammonia smell is dripping its way into my mouth through my throat. The officers are having some sort of quiet discussion standing by the door we came in earlier. It's not uncommon for police officers to be completely apathetic about crime scenes when the funeral home arrives. The investigation is basically over tonight these officers couldn't care less about their scene. They just wanted to get these bodies moved out of the garage so they could get home to their families. I get that… but their lack of supervision is troubling, especially with what happens next.
I am now completely hunched over the body in the back passenger seat while Andy is supervising from the front turned around in the driver's seat with his gloved hands on the headrest. I tell Andy that I think I'm strong enough to grab this man’s right forearm and slide his body out on my own. When I grabbed the man's forearm, I immediately feel something isn't right. I've grabbed lots of dead people's forearms before. None felt like this though. It was so hard and rigid….don’t get me wrong I understand this man is frozen BUT whatever I'm grabbing on to isn't human. It's something else. It's hard and feels like metal one of those cheap metal canes you'd buy at a drugstore. The three drinks circulating through my bloodstream make me curious but pensive. I tell Andy that I'm not touching a man's arm and that there's something else in this man’s jacket.
I interrupted the police officers conversation. “Hey, something isn't right here.” An officer and I switch places as he pulls out a tactical knife and starts cutting away the sleeve to the blood soaked down jacket. “It’s a FUCKING GUN.” I look over his shoulder and see the open sleeve of a jacket revealing a sawed off shotgun. The inside of the coat was some sort of bright orange material so the short barrel of the shotgun stand out…and so did the trigger but not because of its color. It stood out because of frozen dead man’s finger hooked over and frozen around it. Did I mention the gun was cocked. This means that the slightest movement would have caused a sudden discharge… The gun would have fired directly into the driver's seat, the seat where Andy was supervising from AND apparently Andy and I noticed this at the same time.
The next sound we hear was an officer saying, “Gun! Loaded gun!”
Andy and I step back while the officers deal with the gun… he's freaked out…I can tell by the blotchy greenish yellow color he skin has turned in the last 30 seconds. Andy says, “I don't like guns. I don't like guns.”
“It's cool, man. Nobody got shot.” I say not being too sympathetic. I'm definitely drunk now and the idea of a frozen dead man shooting my partner in the chest is kind of hilarious, even if it would have been my fault. I giggle internally. Andy quickly moves towards the door and says, “I need to get some fresh air” and scurries out like an asshole letting the door slam behind him. Almost at the same moment the door closed. The three officers approached me from behind, “We got it out….It was loaded. Your buddy's lucky you didn’t shoot him in the chest.” I just snicker and tell the officers my partner needed some air and that I'll make the removals myself. How hard could it be? I'll just grab and pull.
Frozen bodies move in one piece while regular room temperature bodies are just floppy deadweight. These fellas are frozen solid…they felt like moving a heavy chair or peculiar shaped table out of your friend's car. Square peg in round holes, it was actually considerably easier than I anticipated.
The sound of the two bodies hitting a cold cement after pulling them out was very satisfying…a simple loud hollow frozen thud. I'm surrounded by awfulness and all I can think about is how proud I am that I just handled this crime scene on my own. I can't wait to eat that Butterfinger waiting for me in the car. It's a fitting reward but also something to get rid of this ammonia and garlic taste overpowering my senses at the moment.
Andy still hasn't come back and we're about to zip up the last body bag. An officer had put on a pair of gloves to help me maneuver the second man's rigid bent knees into the body bag. This man's body was like a complicated Tetris piece. Once in, we each grab a zipper on either side of the black vinyl bag and zip our respective ends until they meet in the middle. I nod my head at the officer and say, “That's how it's done!”
The officer looks at me sternly and says, “Did you just come from a party?” I look at him confused and respond, ”What?”
The officer tells me that he just got a waft of alcohol. “It reeks like booze over here.” I closed my mouth quickly and my heart begins to beat out of my chest. I must smell like a distillery… so much for those garlic chips. Laughing, I say, “On a Tuesday? Come on, man!” The officer stands up and says, “Let's run a tox screen on these guys to find out how fucked up they were before getting blasted.”
Looks like a dodged a bullet. How did he smell my whiskey breath over the ammonia smell? Does my breath just smell like straight rubbing alcohol? I feel bad that these dead guys got blamed for MY alcohol breath but, at least, I won't be walking out of here with an underage drinking ticket.
Calming down and feeling relieved. I looked down on my shirt and see that my necktie, my very favorite Ralph Lauren necktie, had fallen out of my shirt at some point and had been dipped into some smelly smelly blood. Fuck! Of course I ruined my favorite necktie on a night I'm not even supposed to be working. I undo the knot and throw the tie into a biohazard bag. The rest of the removal was kind of a blur because I was laser focused thinking about that Butterfinger I left in the car. The alcohol plus all the blood smell I kind of made my stomach sour. My mouth starts to water thinking about that candy bar.
One of the officers helps me wheel the stretchers out to the van in the main area of the police station parking garage. I can see exhaust coming out of our van. It's on? Did we leave the van running? I open the back of the van to find Andy laying down in the center of the wooden roller board taking up the entire back of the van. The sound startles him and he quickly jumps up to a seated position and says, “I'm sorry man, guns really freak me out. I almost got shot…. I thought I was gonna pass out.”
I notice a yellow rapper sitting next to his right leg. He noticed that I noticed. “Oh yeah, I owe you a candy bar.” He says in a nonchalant manner.
All at once, my dislike for Andy hit me like a tidal wave. I ruined my favorite tie and this asshole ate my candy bar? Andy, sensing my disappointment and anger, didn't say another word and I imagine what it would have been like if that shot gun would have gone off.

2023.05.29 01:04 MyFuneralHomeStories Chapter Two: 3 drinks, 2 dead & 1 Candy Bar

2023.05.29 00:58 shwisscheese Can you live in Atlanta making $60k a year?
My brother got a job that pays $60k a year. He says all his money goes to child support($600 a month), taxes, health care, and his car. He doesn’t pay rent because he still lives at home and doesn’t need to buy groceries but still does occasionally(says he needs to build muscle so he eats excessively). I’m trying to figure out why he’s struggling . Can he really not survive living alone in Atl, Georgia?

2023.05.29 00:11 CaptainChristopher02 My Floridian Arxur Daughter (Part 15)
| Art by u/HaajaHenrik / Content Warning: Mentions of Pancakes between two consenting adults'. It's really nothing but I'll put it in case someone prefers a warning. Love you guys. / Memory Transcript Subject: Chalta Rodriguez, Adopted Arxur Youth Date [Standardized Human Time]: November 24, 2136 Finn is a good friend. We would walk around the park with our families, and he would tell me about all the fish in the ocean. “Okay so like- there’s this fish. It looks like it’s melted but it really isn’t because it lives in really deep water. And you know when like- you like- have someone hug you really tight you go squish!” fin said. “Yea! Mommy and daddy give the best hugs!” I thought of last night, when I showed all my weakness and was given a big warm hug from my family. “Well, what if you were always hugged so hard… that when everyone let go you’re body went mushy! Because those hugs were the thing that was- um, keeping your bones tight together! That’s what a blob fish is.” “If we went to water that deep, would we squish?” “Yup! It’s also really dark down there too! You wouldn’t be able to see your hand in front of your face!” I checked to see if I could already see my hand in front of my face. Yup, that would be dark. “Wow,” I said softly. “Hey Chalta, can I see your claws?” “Sure.” I gave Finn my hand and he started looking and playing with my claws. They weren’t very long, only about half the length of his fingers, but Fin didn’t mind. He gently rubbed them and pressed his finger against the pointy end. “They’re very shiny and pointy,” Finn said with an exited smile on his face. “Thank you! Mom helped me clean them this morning. They’re so pretty now. Hey Finn, can I see your claws now?” “They aren’t as nice as yours but sure.” I played with Finns claws. They were short like daddies. Cut really close to the end. I wonder why humans didn’t keep them long. How would a human hunt? I also noticed that his hands are also warm and very soft. Even softer than mommies! Arxur have much rougher skin to protect us. How did humans protect themselves? “Finn,” I asked. “How did humans hunt without claws?” “We threw rocks.” Throwing rocks, that was their weapon of choice? “Why rocks?” “We could throw hard and accurately so we could hunt from a safe distance, or if food was running too fast.” “How did you know that would work?” “Well… there’s a lot of rocks everywhere, and the deer over their looks like they could use one. I guess we threw one too hard one day and some cave man went ‘hey I got an idea’.” “What’s a deer?” “An animal we used to eat a lot. I think we still do.” “Are they tasty?” “I dunno, maybe.” “If you threw a rock at a deer, could I eat it later?” “Sure, I don’t need a rock.” “…” I like talking with him, he makes me feel happy. We kept walking until Finn stopped in front of a sign that said, The Kraken. “Oh cool, a roller coaster! Mommy can I ride it with Chalta!” “R-r-roller c-coaster?” I asked, remembering the screaming humans. I looked up and saw the deathtrap he was talking about. Why would I ride this? Why would anyone ride this?! But what if he thinks you’re weak? We tell him he’s stupid! But I wanna show him we’re brave, also that’s mean! Fine! Be my guest, but when you’re falling to your death it will be your fault. “S-sure they can’t be that bad r-right?” I said, knowing it can be that bad. “Chalta sweety, I don’t even go one those, and I know you don’t want to either!” Mommy said, remembering how I reacted earlier today. Finn’s mother overheard and realized why I wanted to suddenly go. “Listen to your mother, don’t try impressing Finn if you don’t want to.” Carlos and Salisek looked at each other. “Carlos no!” “What?” “You were going to go on that death trap!” “Finn, wanna ride with me?” Big brother was so brave! I wish I was brave enough to- Wait, if he can do it maybe I can too! “Okay Carlos!” Finn said, “You and me! Bros!” “Count us in too!” Daddy said with his arm around a proud looking Tarvik. Mommy realized she had lost her husband to the coaster crossed her arms in frustration, “Okay than, Chalta you can wait with us girls.” “A-actually mommy… can I go?” Mommy gave a big sigh. “Yes bebé, but if you’re feeling uncomfortable come back. Even if it’s a little bit m, okay?” “Yes mommy.” I walked with the boys up the very, very long line. Every time I thought we were close there was just more line! I looked at a photo of the ride we passed to see how high we were going and… oh. Oh, that’s high. I turned to Finn, “Um… is this safe?” “Yea! They strap you in real tight!” “Why are all the humans screaming?” “They’re screams of fun!” Daddy snickered. “Kinda reminds me of my honeymoon.” I didn’t know what a honeymoon was, but it sounded like a pretty scary roller coaster. Big brother’s eye’s shot wide open. “There are two kids here!” Honeymoon must be an adult secret. “What? We went to Disney! We got fast passes and where riding Space Mountain and Tron all day!” “That’s not what is sounded like!” Big brother is so silly. He makes me smile. Finn was laughing too. After what felt like days, Daddy said it was only 30 minutes, we finally made it to the end. Four seats per row. Me and Finn sat next to each other with Big brother and Tarvik next to us. Dad sat with some strangers in the back, but I wish he was next to me. I was really scared. After checking the uniformed humans checked the restraints, the ride was ready to start, and I could feel my heart beating faster than it ever has. Finn grabbed my hand. His grip helped me feel safer. “It’s okay Chalta, I used to be scared of these but now I’m not! You’re safe with me, I’ll protect you!” Finn said proudly and I wrapped my tail around his leg and tightened my hands grip. “Y-you better not let go!” It’s starting! Oh no! I want mommy! 3… 2… 1… The ride started… slowly? This isn’t so bad. Wow, we’re going high now. Really high. Wait how are we getting down. Oh, oh no. We’re dropping at speeds I didn’t know I could survive! Are we going upside down? Again! How are we moving like this? This… feels… AWESOME! It feels like I’m flying! I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When we got off the ride I was filled with a sense of relief after finally returning to the ground. Tarvik also looked relived and proud of himself. “Did you see that! I conquered the beast didn’t I. Ha, only humans could come up with something so dangerously fun!” The boys giggled with each other while Finn and I raced back to our Mommies resting spot so we can tell them how brave we are. A ran as fast as I could and gave mommy a big hug. “Mommy, mommy! Did you see me? I was so brave wasn’t I! It wasn’t so bad; I’m not scared anymore!” Mommy held me close and smiled. “Yes sweety, you were very brave! I’m so proud of you! You and Tarvik.” “Hey what’s that supposed to mean,” Tarvik said sounding a little angry. Big brother gave him a back pat. “Tarvik, I don’t think you realize that you’re probably the first Venlil to ever ride a rollercoaster. And you did it of your own free will. That’s almost unbelievable, yet here I am, standing in front of the living legend!” We all giggled, but now I was feeling hungry. “Mommy, daddy. Can we go eat something?” “Sure,” mommy said. “These lady’s drank most of the water and ate almost all the sandwiches anyways. And I know the boys want their fill.” Big sister looked embarrassed. “H-hey! It’s hot out here. My fur and size and all the walking aren’t helping either.” Speaking of water, I was getting thirsty. “Water sweety?” Mommy said before I could ask her myself. “How did you know I was thirsty?” “My mother senses where tingling.” I took a sip of the water and noticed my legs were aching. We were close to a restaurant with all sorts of fish to eat. So… close… can’t walk… Finn noticed my struggle. “Chalta are you okay? Do you need a break? Wait… are you hibernating?! It’s winter so I understand.” “What’s hyper mating?” “No silly, hibernating!” Finn said with a giggle. “Some animals do it when it gets cold. They sleep for a really long time.” “Oh, okay. No, I’m not hibernating. My legs are tired. I didn’t know humans could walk so much!” Finns’ mommy spoke up. “Darling, if you want, I could rent some strollers. We could also take a break.” I suddenly felt like I was about to trip over my own weight when Finn caught me. “Chalta if you can’t walk, I can carry you.” “You can do that?” Mommy looked worried. “I… I don’t think that’s such a good-” Finn didn’t hesitate when he picked me up like a princess and carried me to the restaurant. The whole family looked surprised. I was too, how was he able to pick me up? Was I that light? I could tell he was struggling a little bit, but he kept going, determined to make sure I enjoyed a nice meal. “Wow you’re really strong!” I said to Finn. “Thanks, it’s from helping mom with all the groceries!” “And those weights dad has that I keep telling you not to play with!” Finn’s mom said. “If you don’t want me to pick up the weights than why do they have a handle?” “Because you can hurt yourself!” My mom spoke up, “Why don’t you just lock up the equipment?” “I do! But somehow this little gremlin keeps getting past everything. Locked doors? No. Locked windows? No. Hide them? Always finds it! Punish him? He considers it a challenge. The closest I got was putting a piece of broccoli on all the equipment because he hates it. Wanna guess the day he started liking broccoli? It was the day he decided to force the stuff down his throat so he could use the weights. At this point I might as well hire a personal trainer, so he gets proper gym lessons and maybe just gets bored.” “You still love me though, right mommy?” “Of course! You little muscle baby!” Big brother gave Finn a head pat while he carried me. “You know Marleen, I know a thing or two about fitness. I could teach him some things if you’re okay with it.” “That would be wonderful. At lease he would have someone watching him and maybe learn not to hurt himself.” Finn was still carrying me, and I could feel the warmth from his body. It was wonderful! It reminded me almost of how daddy carried me on the day we first met, but this was different. Dad’s felt like a comfort, but Finn’s felt like… a protector? “Come on Chalta let’s go on an adventure!” Finn’s pace picked up and finally put me down once we got in line. I felt much better with some water and rest. Once we ordered and got our food we finally got to eat. I took one bite of the food called sushi. It had raw fish, with tons of vegetables that mom said should be fine in small amounts and pick off if I wanted. *munch* “Mmm, so good!” I said aloud trying to contain my excitement. After the sushi I had fish sticks. They were amazing, almost as good as chicken tendies! The French fries where good too, even if they were vegetables. I was fine at first, but then my stomach started telling me to stop eating plants for the day, so I had more fish sticks. “Aw, I ran out,” I said, disappointed that I couldn’t enjoy any more fish sticks. I gave my fries to the table to share, but Finn still had some fish sticks. Maybe I can ask? No that would be rude. He should enjoy fish sticks too! “Hey Chalta! Have the rest of my fish sticks, I know you need them more than me,” Finn said as he placed the tasty fish on my basket. *gasp* “Yay! I love you, Finn!” I said hugging him close while Dad spat out his drink. “You’re my best friend!” Daddy calmed down. “Oh, thank god!” Silly daddy. I love him too. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I felt bad about leaving but it was getting late. I said goodbye to Finn with a nice hug. Our moms told us that we could talk to each other again anytime we wanted and could even set up play dates! I was so happy! The ride back home was smooth, and everyone headed to their rooms. Mommy pulled me aside and asked me if I wanted to sleep with her and Daddy since everyone needs a bed. Big brother came and gave me uppies. “She can stay with me and Salisek, we talked about it. Go and enjoy some alone time with dad.” “Thank you sweety.” Mom went up to her room while Big brother and sister took me to theirs. After we got ready, they laid me between them for the night. I nuzzled up against brother’s soft and warm arms, and sister’s fluffy body. It was so cozy, but before I drifted off, I asked Big brother to sing me a lullaby. Big sister gave an excited smile and wrapped us all around her tail. “I’ve never heard you sing! Please sing to us.” Brother giggled and sang in a soft, surprisingly beautiful voice, "The song is called Send Me a Peach," “I never dreamed that there'd come a day When I'd find myself far from your arms Now that I am, I can hardly stand Not to be near your sweet southern charms Send me a peach from ol' Georgia Down where the Savannah flows If I could have one bite of Georgia I would feel right here at home I miss the shady old lanes there Walkin' with you by my side Just send me one peach from Georgia Just so I know you'll be mine I hope that you won't forget me Before my road leads back to you Though the winter may bring the whole world to its knees The spring shall return with its fruit The wind here is ready for winter It seems to turn everything blue So just send me (Send me) send me one little peach Just a sweet, sunny piece of you” Big sister whispered, “I love you.” As we all dozed into a peaceful sleep. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Memory Transcript Subject: Elena, School Teacher, Loving Wife and Mother Date [Standardized Human Time]: November 24, 2136 For the first time in almost a couple weeks I was finally alone with my husband. He was reading in bed when I did my little ‘routine’. I jumped in and peppered him with kisses while he giggled profusely. I missed that wonderful laugh. “My love,” my darling dearest said. “I know you’ve missed me, but our house is full. Are you sur-” I put my finger over his lips and got into the ‘paint me like one of your French girls’ position. I know he loves that. “I have been without your presence for far too long, never mind your touch. Your wife has needs. Your wife wants to feel you all around, and for you to feel her all around. Are you gonna keep her waiting any more… mi amor?” My husband sighed and pulled me right next to him. He gave me a wonderful, passionate kiss. “Okay my love, let’s just be quiet. We have guests AND a new daughter, okay?” I nodded excitedly. “I love you so much.” We looked into each other’s eyes for the first time in a while. With him leaving and the new baby alone time was sparce. But moments like these… they were priceless. We gave each other another passionate kiss before we started making love. I love my husband. 2023.05.28 23:41 SquareProgress3407 AITA- For not wanting to invite my mother's friend to my wedding?
I (24M) and my fiancée (24F) recently announced we are getting married and have set the date. We have decided to have a small wedding and it will be just family except for 2 or 3 people who are our friends. Everyone has been excited and there has been no issues up until I told my mum about the reception, and she asked for a plus one.
For context, my mum and dad broke up when I was little and both married other people, he and his wife will be attending the wedding. My Stepdad passed away almost 2 years ago. This is the first big event since his passing.
I informed my mum over the phone that we had booked the reception. She asked if my brother’s girlfriend was invited to which I said yes as they will have been dating for two years by that point. She asked if could bring her best friend (we will call her Sarah) as her plus one. My family have known Sarah for a long time, but I have grown not found of her due to some of her actions. I told my mum this which led to her trying to tell my fiancée to tell me to let her come and to which she replied no and explained why we did not want her there. We told my mum that we understood she did not want to be alone but that she wouldn’t be as her parents and sibling will be there.
Our reasoning behind saying no is the following:
- At my stepdad’s funeral Sarah discussed planning a meal between the two families, Sarah’s and my mum’s and stated to my fiancée that she was specifically not invited. I witnessed this conversation as there was just the three of us there.
- At the funeral she spent most of the night seducing a friend of my stepdad’s and later going home with him after agreeing to spend the night comforting my mum. Who later had to lie to Sarah’s boyfriend about where Sarah stayed the night.
- Sarah has repeatedly told my mum that she needs to get herself back out there including the day after the funeral.
My mum said it was fine that we did not want Sarah to come and I apologised but I just didn’t want Sarah there. A few days later she messaged me asking me to come over for a chat later in the evening. Both me and my fiancée were worried sick all day as we knew what the topic of conversation would be. My fiancée was not invited to this chat.
She started the chat by saying that she had been talking to people she knows about us not wanting Sarah to come and the fact that I do not like her. She then proceeded to berate me for not liking Sarah as she has supposedly done many good things. She then said that I have no right to not like someone, but she wanted to try to understand why I feel the way I do, when I tried to explain my reasoning, she did not listen to what I had to say and spoke over the top of me. She proceeded to tell me things about other people that have nothing to do with me and are also not invited to the wedding. She ended the evening by telling me to leave her house and has not spoken to me since.

2023.05.28 23:17 volkanos The Zhilnn
MAP ORIGIN MYTH Young Titi had just celebrated her seventh nameday. She couldn’t help but feel happy about her newly braided hair. Soon she would look just like her big sister Jani, who already had two braids on her brown hair, she cheerfully thought. As Titi’s prancing drew prints upon the soft yellow sand, the setting sun slowly approached the serene waves. The fishing canoes were just returning to the village’s pier, the strong armed villagers taking the catch of the day back to their hovels. The impending dusk meaned it was time for Titi to return home. Father had always beaten her if she arrived after dusk. It was dangerous to be out at night, he would always say, the hill people could take her away and she would never again see her mommy or her little brother Kiru. But Titi wasn’t all upset about returning home. Afterall, today she would hear granpa Koyo’s stories! The old man could barely see anymore, but it felt to Titi that the older and blinder he got, the better he became at storytelling.
As she returned back home, Titi’s mommy was already cooking today’s meal. By the smell of it, the hovel’s wood-carved bowls would soon be filled with fish stew, enriched with sourghum and yesterday’s leftover horse meat. Titi didn’t enjoy stringy horse meat, but her belly already rumbled nonetheless – most often she wouldn’t have as rich a meal as today’s. Her rambling was soon interrupted by the frail voice she so fondly remembered: “Titi, you young pony legged brat!” As granpa Koyo caught Titi’s attention, she could see that the old man was already sitting cross-legged by the hearth, her little brother Kiru at his lap. “Come by the fire with your granpa. I have a story to tell you, one only your big sister knows about!”
Titi couldn’t hide her excitement as she quickly scrambled to her granpa’s side. Her little brother Kiru sneezed as she got close – he always did it when she played with her uncle’s horses at the afternoon. “I know what it is! It’s the one that tells about the big hairy red horse, isn’t it?” Titi had heard her big sister Jani bragging about not being scared of it once. She turned to Jani, who was helping her mommy prepare today’s meal. “It’s this one, isn’t it?”
Her sister didn’t even look back as she aloofly answered: “Shut up Titi, I’m trying to keep the fire going!” Titi could never understand her sister’s apparent disinterest of granpa’s stories, she thought, abashed. “Granpa! Please, tell us the story!” Titi’s excitement quickly replaced her momentary sorrow.
It took a few heartbeats for granpa Koyo to answer: “Oh, little one! You shall hear the story of how our very people came to be, of how Great Zhi brought our ancestors across the world to this blessed land. Sit tight and listen!”
Several generations before our current time, our people dwelled in a cold, harsh land where food was hard to get. They didn’t have houses back than, so they slept on temporary animal hide shelters along their seasonal hunting grounds. Making a living out of the steppe was strenuous, with game and wild herbs ever harder to find. Many children starved, their mothers’ dry bossoms not able to sustein their ever growing hunger. Conflict with other local tribes was commonplace, turning the already tough life into a waking nightmare. Long did this suffering last, until a previously unbeknownst hero revealed himself under a moonlit night.
Zhi was his name, and he came to our people riding his great white horse, whom he named Jahnn. His unblemished skin, long sky-dark hair and strong build immediately set him aside from common folk. Most impressive of all, Zhi could speak our language, and so he began teaching the ancestors about the Way of the Horse. Such as Zhi’s prowess that in a fortnight our people already mastered horse breeding. Hunting was no longer essential as before, and the folk cheered their newfound plentitude.
Yet, all was not well, for Zhi also came with dread news. The malignant red horse, Araw, and its evil spirit, Makk, were bound to come and bring impending disease, hunger and death. Zhi revealed that he had come to usher our ancestors to a land of plenty, where the sun shone bright and where the grass was green, a land where Araw could not ever reach. There, they’d be safe from the evil spirit’s influence, and would be able to prosper for a hundred generations. Scared, our ancestors were divided about Zhi’s heed. Many, convinced that Zhi had already shown them all they needed to prosper on the steppe, decided not to come. A few, scared of the dreadful tale, prepared to journey away.
The journey was tough, as Zhi had warned. Our folk crossed uneven ground were horses would break their hooves and men would stumble. Women cried out as their children grew exhausted of the journey. Hunger was once again commonplace, despite mastery of the Way of the Horse. Was Zhi wrong? When doubt was about to boil into open anger, a lone wayfarer crossed their path, his furs and shoes ragged, his skin covered in bruises and pustules. Such was his stench that many couldn’t bare his proximity. His nearness revealed him as one of our own. The red horse had come and the man was the only survivor of those who were left behind. It went exactly as Zhi had warned.
Grief overcame our ancestors, doubt and anger now replaced by melancoly. If not for Zhi’s sheer determination, our people would have given up their own hope, slowly dwindling away until the evil spirit finished them. Zhi’s promisses of a new life, however, ignited renewed hope on our folk’s hearts. Zhi’s leadership was of paramount importance back than, such that our ancestors adopted his name to refer to themselves as a people. And thus did our ancestors arrive at where we are today, the land we call Zhilnnia. As soon as they reached the open coastal plains, they sighted what none had never laid gaze before. The endless salt water expanse that we today call the ocean spread before them, lit brightly by a warm sun. And, surprising everyone, there were people living by the sandy beaches. Zhi told our folk that these men, women and children who lived by the sea and called themselves the Illn were friendly folk who would teach them the Way of the Water. In turn, our ancestors would have to teach them their Way of the Horse.
It was as if two long departed friends met each other again. Gifts were exchanged, and one side showed fascinating crafts to the other. Zhi arranged marriages between sons and daughters from both folk, and in a few generations the two folks were indistinguishable from one another. With Zhi and Illn together as one, the Zhilnn were born. Zhi’s mission was complete and as with his appeareance, he soon vanished without a trace under a moonlit sky.
Titi was fascinated by the story. So much that she lost herself in her thoughts again. How handsome must Zhi have been? Her rambling was interrupted abruptly by a loud cough, a sigh and by her granpa falling atop her. Startled, she recomposed herself, lifting herself up from the ground as her little brother Kiru cried aloud. Titi looked around and saw that her mommy, her big sister Jani, and even her recently arrived papa were all staring at her granpa Koyo, concern of their faces. It was then that titi saw his sightless gaze locked into her, his mouth frozen in a perpetual last gasp.
“It was his last story” her mama said, tears sprouting on ther brown eyes.
“Quickly, we must bring Fivi in” her father seemed distant “Before his bones cool and his spirit can’t reach the stars” He hastily left their hovel, intent on seeking the shaman.
Titi was scared. What was happening? She could only cry as her mother embraced her. Even Jani seemed shaken. Her sobbing eventualy subdued as Titi entered a troubled sleep, dreaming about the lonely wayfarer with her granpa Koyo’s face.
OBJECTIVE INFORMATION The Zhilnn are a pastoral-agricultural folk, with a bit of maritime tradition mixed in. They don’t master any of the three particulary well, being well-rounded. Zhilnn villages are spread across Xhantea’s coastal plains, being more densily present at river estuaries, where fishing, pastures and farmland are easiest. Some villages especialize more in one aspect than other. The Zhilnn are prone to trading, being on the way of possible maritime trade routes across Xanthea and Gorgonea. Raiding by their nearby cousins, the Chiim, puts their expansion in check. Zhilnn villages are led by local chieftains, who rule under a clan-like disorganized structure. Shamans, usually female, are respected mainly because of the Zhillnn’s burrial traditions (the dead are put into burial urns and laid to rest in funeral mounds), but also as healers, hearbalists and spiritualist guidance. The Zhilnn believe in spirits, good or bad, with the Red Horse (Araw) being the most dreadful, while Zhi and his White Horse are the holliest. Zhilln Villages are small, usually no more than a few hundred people at best.
