I find myself in a bit of a predicament and thought I'd reach out here to see if there's anyone who might be interested in joining me for a dinner reservation in Chicago, at a Japanese & Mexican Fusion restaurant this Saturday 6/10 at 7pm. I unfortunately can't cancel. I hope I can find someone who's up for a fun evening!
About me: I'm a 35-year-old financial advisor based in the lovely Chicago suburbs. In my free time, I enjoy a wide range of activities. I'm a big basketball fan and love playing whenever I get the chance. I'm also a regular at pub trivia nights because I love putting my general knowledge to the test. Concerts are another passion of mine, and I'm always up for a live music experience.
I consider myself an avid traveler and love exploring new places, near and far. When I'm not out and about, I find solace in video games and can easily spend hours immersed in a captivating virtual world. I'm also a movie buff and enjoy binge-watching TV shows during cozy nights in.
Now, back to the dinner situation. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I can't cancel the reservation, and it would be a shame for the seat to go to waste. If any lovely ladies out there would like to join me for dinner and enjoy good conversation, please feel free to send me a message.

So here I am on Reddit looking for some good advice on what your personal favorites/preferences are. I'm overly exhausted trying to make a judgment call on Google reviews. Zooming in on Google maps to see "hidden gems" and etc.
I've figured out some amazing spots like bavette's & Siam noodles for Thai. But my research and ability only goes so far and I need your guys help 😂.

I'm sure this isn't an original post, but I find Reddit posts 6 years later doing sub niche research often. Maybe it can be an updated stepping stone. I tried to break it down by category this time instead of the bland "where do I go"

I work overnights. I am off at 6AM. I am giving up my backyard breakfast bourbon barrel stouts and tacos seem like the best replacement.
I want Mexican meats, Pastor, Barbacoa etc. I work in SE Austin near Airport & Bolm Rd so I’ve been going to El Secreto de la Abuela and, frankly, it’s become more miss than hit. My last Pastor taco may as well have been dunked in marinade and the Barbacoa was more than half fat and leaked through the bag and onto the seat.
I went to Beto’s today and was floored by the Pastor, and the tortillas were fantastic. The Barbacoa was a bit bland though. That said, it will be a regular on the rotation.
I live North of Wells Branch, east of 35 so I know there are many options on my way home, I just don’t know where to begin.
I’m open to anything from hole in the wall places to gas station taco trucks. I have no interest in hipster tacos like Tyson’s or places that sell any food other than Mexican food. The more authentic the better. I would prefer places that are minority owned and operated and employing minority staff opening between 0600-0700.
Bonus points if the Barbacoa is weekend only and open fire cooked.

It’s been several years since I visited your great city and I’ve been planning a sort of celebratory return trip after a difficult year dealing with illness. I have been reading articles for a couple weeks and thought I had things pretty well sorted out, but then found this sub and have read a lot of differing opinions. We will be staying downtown for 5 days and budget isn’t too much of a concern but if there is a better meal that is cheaper I won’t pass that up. We will spend at least 3 of those days downtown due to commitments and don’t plan to rent a car but can get a Lyft/Uber as needed the other 2 days.
Sushi - I was thinking we would hit 2-3 spots and was all set to go to Ken Sushi Workshop and then one of Sushi Ota or Tadokoro, but seen a lot of people recommending Azuki and Soichi. Also considered Full Moon and Kinme Omakase, but don’t see them mentioned often at all. What is your top 5 sushi list?
Mexican - I was planning to grab tacos or burritos for lunch 3-4 of those days and had settled on The Taco Stand, Tacos El Gordo and Salud, but again I either don’t see those mentioned often or lot of comments they are overrated. What are your top 5 taco/burrito spots?
Ceviche - We really like ceviche (particularly Peruvian) and were planning to go to Crudo Cevicheria & Oyster Bar, but seeing lots of mentions of Karina’s. Where is the best ceviche?
Breakfast - This was the last thing I had not yet looked into, but given I’m doubting most of my selections figure I’ll just ask what are your favorite breakfast spots? Tend to like savory over sweet but either with a good cup of coffee will work.
Other - I was planning to splurge a little at least 2 nights and thought Callie and Campfire looked very good. I don’t see much negative about either so feeling fine about these but figured I would mention them. Is there a truly can’t miss restaurant we should prioritize for a nice dinner for 2?
