2023.06.08 20:28 MesJay19 Soffit and Facia question

I've done my fair share of siding jobs over the years but how the eaves tie into the gable on a house I purchased is something I want you opinion on before I go and do it. Just want to do it the most aesthetically appealing way. I'm thinking of just a normal bird soffit box, but ill need to tear into it a little bit to do that, no big deal but also, with the overhang on the eaves being 2 ft the bird box would be quite bulky which might not look the best
Here's a picture of what I'm talking about:

2023.06.08 19:02 TheBeardedDave Controlling non-Genio devices from Mirabela Genio Motion Sensors?

I came across a couple of mirabela genio motion sensors today at a really good price, so picked them up with my intent being to use them to control smart globes in our kitchen and living area, with the specific use case I have in mind at this stage being simply that the lights in these areas turn on dimly when motion is detected, then turn off 5 minutes later (allowing for someone to use the bathroom, get a drink, warm the bottle for our toddler, etc).
What I am finding though is that it is unfortunately difficult to locate the matching globes, in the quantity I need (at least 6) at a reasonable price. There are other well priced brands on Amazon though which look like they'd work just fine, as long as I am able to trigger them via the Mirabela Genio motion sensors.
As an example, I am looking at the "V-Tac LEG RGB Smart Lights" (Link: https://www.amazon.com.au/Pieces-V-Tac-Smart-Spotlight-Google/dp/B08T64MK98/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=genio+gu10&qid=1686241560&sr=8-5)
What I kind of have in mind is that when the genio motion sensor detects movement, rather than trigger the light directly (assuming there is no way for the genio app to speak directly to the app for the v-tac lights), but it COULD generate a notification, which perhaps then has something along the lines of an IFTTT type app detects and sends the appropriate "set V-tac lights to 5%, then turn them off after 5 minutes" type message to.
So the workflow would be:
Does this sound like it should work? Any recommendations on particular brands or apps to investigate to make this work? Initially, I have 2x light fixtures with 3x GU10 globes in each of them that I would like to get this working with. From there, ultimately I would like to replace at least another 3x GU10 globes and a number of downlights to set up as part of a similar system, and from there will be all sorts of pure wankery aesthetic lighting around the house lol. What I have in mind is that, at night, if someone gets up and walks through the house they are effectively met with warm lighting as they move through the home, which then shuts off behind them as they head back to their room. (I have kids... I'm sick of turning lights off 😂)
As long as I can get things talking to eachother, I don't care how many different brands I end up with or how many different apps I have installed on my phone - as long as I am able to get the various workflows functioning how I want, preferably with PIR motion sensing as a fairly core part of this functionality. I will also likely be including some of the mirabelo genio window/door opening sensors in a similar fashion (ie open the bedroom door, and I'd like both the kitchen and bathroom lights to illuminate softly; open my toddlers door and I'd like a light strip under his bed to illuminate, etc).
Ultimately I see the majority of my "smart" devices being controlled by a combination of PIR motion sensors, window/door magnetic sensors, a "streamdeck" style controller and also some control via both google home and alexa. I rarely tend to use the actual apps to control these things, hence not being too bothered by how many apps it requires installation of, as long as there is minimal interaction required with these apps beyond initial setup.
Ideally, I would like to keep things as "off the shelf" as possible. I don't mind having to mess around between multiple apps to get things talking and interacting how I'd like them to, but I don't really want to have to start flashing custom firmware or messing with hardware or building a custom raspberry pi type bridge etc to make this work.
I like the idea of doing this with "smart" lighting options, rather than basic PIR controlled night-lights or similar, for a couple of reasons:
1) This is so much cooler;
2) Ultimately, I have a lot more in mind in terms of smart lighting in my home office and entertainment areas, so I see this as kind of the starting point for all of that
3) I'd also like to eventually do things like add music to the workflow, adjust which lights turn on and for how long based on which specific sensors are triggered, etc.
Throwing it out there to you far smarter folk for your thoughts on how you would do this! Including any show stoppers or particular challenges you expect me to face. Probably worth noting too that although I've started with the Mirabelo Genio PIR sensors - that's only because they were on clearance for $10ea. If it simply won't work with them and I need to go a different route, let's hear it!
Thanks in advance!
Dave

2023.06.08 18:19 Bright-Bet2950 Help making the right solar panel choice!

We are currently in the process of setting up a new system and have received two quotes worth considering so far. The initial quote is from Sunrun, they have already conducted an on-site assessment of the roof. The second quote is from Green Power Energy, the only other option we found on TheQuoteMatch, but they have not visited the property yet. We have also obtained a few quotes directly from a few local companies, but they did not seem reasonable at all. This install is for a system in New Jersey, where our current energy usage is approximately 8000 kW/year.
The SunRun quote is for an 8.84 kW system using 26 JA Solar JAM60S10-340/MR panels with optimizers and a SolarEdge SE6000H inverter. The price they provided is $35,500 ($4.00/watt). They are suggesting 98% coverage with this system. While aesthetics are not a major concern for us, as a tiebreaker, I do prefer the visual design of Sunrun's plan a little better because the panels are more discreet from the street. We have faith in the agent, but we are uncertain about how far that faith should extend to the entire company.
The Green Power quote provides more extensive information compared to Sunrun. It is for a 10.8 kW system (estimated 8661 kWh in the first year) using 30 QCell BLK-G10+ 360 Q.PEAK Duo panels and IQ8+ microinverters. The pre-rebate cost is $33,500 ($3.10/watt). Although it is 20% larger, they are only suggesting 99% coverage. I have come across more positive feedback about Green Power, but most of it is not specific to New Jersey.
Taking into account the finance rates quoted by both companies for a ten-year loan, the SunRun system actually turns out to be slightly cheaper in terms of the final price, even though it offers fewer kilowatts. I have two main concerns: (1) based on what I can tell, microinverters are generally preferred over optimizers, especially considering the potential for heavy shade over part of the roof, and (2) at least one other company has informed me that my house is not suitable for solar, and I have heard similar things when I inquired about it a few years ago. This makes me nervous that these nearly-100% coverage estimates might be unrealistic when faced with reality, as it strikes me as odd that a company wouldn't even attempt to design a system.
I am also wondering if these prices are expected to remain high or if waiting a few months might alleviate some of the prices. At this point, I have accepted that I will likely miss the summer, which is unfortunate since that's when I would truly see the value. However, if it is likely that either of these systems can be installed quickly (Green Power mentions that their panels are USA-built, for instance), that could be a deciding factor as well. I am not interested in a battery at the moment, but it seems like both of these systems could easily be supplemented by a battery in the future when the prices come down.

2023.06.08 17:03 BottomShelfVodka The day my husband’s cat got us evicted from our townhome.

[July - September 2013]
The next 3 months were rather boring. We didn't have the money to blow out in town, so we spent most of our time either swimming in the community pool, or we were in the house playing Borderlands or watching Netflix. This was when Devon and I binge watched the full series of Breaking Bad, Weeds, and Sons of Anarchy. Aside from that, nothing too eventful occurred...until around mid September when we were evicted from our townhome.
Peanut remained high strung after we introduced the kitten. He went from being a sweet, snuggly kitten himself to being a 6 month grumpy old man. He was miserable and insisted everyone around him should be miserable as well.
He wasn't outright mean though. He never hissed or growled after the first week of the kitten's presence. He just started doing spiteful shit. He would hide in the shadows and attack our ankles when we'd walk by, or he would lay camouflaged on the hardwood floor in the middle of the night, ready to attack any unsuspecting victim passing him on their way to the bathroom.
One day, as I stood at the top of the stairs, I spotted Peanut downstairs. He was lounging on the back of the couch, sunbathing in the window, just minding his own business.
I'm not sure what came over me, but I excitedly yelled out "PEANUT!!" while running full speed down the stairs to pet him.
Well, that fucking spooked him, to say the least. I'm pretty sure he interrupted that excessive eagerness as me trying to murder him. One moment he was on the back of the couch; the next moment he was outside.
I didn't even know that was an option.
Not surprising considering the rest of the house was cheaply constructed out of paper mache and chewed bubble gum, but my husband's cat smashed out our fucking window. How.
I opened the front door to recover our poor, scared, evil baby kitty. I don't think he even knew how the fuck he had just teleported into the front yard either.
I cuddled him in my arms and apologized to him profusely for being so terrifying. When I brought him inside, I inspected his fur for any loose glass. He was unscratched and unharmed, thankfully, but I'm sure his adrenaline was through the roof.
Considering our account was still in the negative, we couldn't afford to fix the window immediately. Our solution was to tape up a few free boxes from our local liquor store. It was a good enough fix to block out the Mississippi heat, but it wasn't exactly aesthetically pleasing for curb appeal.
When we moved into the townhome originally, we decided to pinch a few pennies by simply not disclosing that we had a cat and a dog...and now another cat. You'd never suspect us to have pets though: no ammonia odor, no fucked up blinds, no chewed or clawed furniture. We've always kept a clean house, we just happened to have a smashed window bandaged with a few flattened out cardboard boxes and tape. No big deal.
A few days after the window incident, there was a knock on the door. It was the head of management. He came to congratulate us on having the fanciest looking house on the block, and he wanted me to help him remodel the rest of the houses to follow suit.
Lol nah, of course not. He was actually there for a "maintenance check"
...but he was actually, actually there because he wanted to know how the hell we broke that window. To avoid being penalized with a pet deposit, I tried to come up with a quick lie on the spot, but before I could answer, Peanut decided to greet the angry landlord by walking circles around his legs, covering the man's black slacks in his trademark orange fur. Angry landlord was not a fan of cats...or of me.
He wanted to take "a look around".
Why. He already saw the cat. Just increase my rent and go home already.
Nope.
As he made his way through the living room, headed toward the kitchen to "check the appliances", he was greeted by another eager fuzzball who popped out to surprise him from behind the counter.
Hello, Punk. I'm so glad you decided to make an appearance.
Now, all the commotion has Chloe's attention. Why not introduce her as well?
We were busted. Game over.
Angry landlord expected back pay from us for all the months we had skipped out on the pet deposit, but since we couldn't pay it, he told us we could not continue our lease after the end of the month...only two weeks away.

2023.06.08 16:59 sciguy11 Pretty sure I am somewhere in the ace spectrum

Long post. Trying to get some perspective on myself.
I (mid 30s male) was often called "asexual" during high school and my 20s. I also posted this on asexual, asexuality, and demisexuality, but wanted some other input.
Back then, it was more pejorative than descriptive, at least growing up. The label, also meant "complete absence of sexual desire", as there was no real "spectrum" back then.
I also have, at least compared to my perception of others, low-ish libido.
However, I always thought I could not be asexual (based on the definition of "complete absence of") due to two major factors:
  1. I (male) am only attracted to women. Basically any romantic feelings or infatuation growing up was towards a female person so how could I be asexual? I equated this with heterosexuality apparently some feel that this is not necessarily the case.
  2. I am married and have sex with my wife periodically, and it is a pleasurable experience physically and emotionally. We were both virgins when we got married so that may also affect my perception of sexual interactions between people.
However, I am never "lost in passion" and am very aware of what's going on around me and am somewhat "technical", "mechanical" or "scripted" (I am thinking about angles and how to make it good for my wife). Even "making out" or foreplay feels very step-by-step for me (do this first, do this next, etc).
Obviously the physical sensations are good, but I feel like my brain is, again, being very "procedural". My wife has sometimes mentioned that "there isn't a checklist or fixed routine that you have to go through each time".
To elaborate, I never feel like my body is doing things impulsively (except maybe orgasm?). I am very aware of what of going on, and my brain goes through this sort of step by step process ("according to cosmo or askwomen or sex, she may like this. ok so she likes this, so do this. she likes this next, so the next step is this. she says do this tempo, so do this"). I never feel like I am letting my drive take over. It sometimes feels like a game of chess...
I know movies are not a good example, but many movies show people so entrenched in passion that they are tripping on things while making out, etc. Never happened with me.
On the contrary, things that seem to fit here:
  1. I can go weeks without sex. Only after about two or three weeks will my body feel like I "need" something. However, this just seems physical as I never felt the need to watch pornography or have visual stimuli. Again, my male (and female) peers found this odd.
  2. When masturbation was mentioned in health class in high school, my thought was, "That's weird. Why would anyone ever need to do that?". For a long time I also thought sex was only for procreation (how else are humans going to procreate naturally?). My peers found this odd as well.
  3. I never had "raging hardons" that people sometimes mention. I never had the urge to masturbate because I saw a beautiful woman. I seemed to be an exception here, too.
  4. Overall, my brain finds women attractive, but doesn't trigger much else physically, unless it's in the moment itself, and only with my wife. It also only seems to happen when we are actually in thy act. She could walk aroud the house in "sexy" clothing, and while I would surely like what I see, I wouldn't be constantly "in the mood". You know those short clips on tiktok or YouTube where a woman wears lingerie and walks into a room to "surprise" her husband or boyfriend, and the guy drops what he is doing and wants to start making out? I don't think that happens with me, unless I make myself do that (if that makes any sense).
  5. Never had erotic or sexual dreams or sexual daydreams. I can visualize things, sure, but I have to think about it, versus it "just coming to mind" , intrusively.
  6. Never understood my friends saying they "need" sex. I understand libido, but never understood needing sex.
  7. I don't think I could have a sexual interaction with anyone except my wife (basically, comitted relationship).
  8. Even when I had "crushes" I never thought about sex (except maybe "well, we will want to have kids", etc) and pretty much thought about having a relationship with care, emotion, hugging, travelling places together, going to a national park, having fun, etc.
  9. When we got married, we didn't have sex for a few months. Neither of us felt any pressure to do so and eventually did when we felt the time was right for us. People used to joke saying "control yourself" and "hopefully there are no honeymoon babies" and I was thinking "I mean, it can't be that difficult to hold back can it?"
  10. Some movies show a woman using her hands to "fan" herself when she see someone who she finds "hot". I don't think I have ever felt that way [or the male equivalent] since puberty.
  11. People mention things happening "in the heat of the moment". I don't think I have ever felt something like this.
  12. Related to the last point above. People mention cheating "by mistake" and "it just happened". I can rationally understand someone cheating on someone after developing a long relationship with someone else, but don't really understand when people say it happened "in the heat of the moment".
A few interactions that may help illustrate this more:
  1. When I was in college, a cheerleader friend sat next to me, extending her legs out. She then asked me how her (shaved/waxed) legs looked (look, I just got them waxed/shaved, what do you think?) running her hands across them. I said they looked nice and then got up and left. My point is that I didn't feel any arousal and actually forgot about this until I started writing this post.
  2. Another college friend expressed her feelings for me once. Among other things, she mentioned fantasizing about us being together sexually. For various unrelated reasons, I said I was not ready for a relationship, but I wondered about this part since I had never had sexual fantasies with anyone whom I was interested or infatuated with. Apparently, people do?
Sexy commercials don't "turn me on". AgainI can appreciate aesthetics, but I don't get "in the mood".
If I looked at a lingerie catalog, I would feel like "wow she is gorgeous". I would also feel this type of "gorgeous" is different than if I saw a handsome male model or even a beautiful woman in a business suit (with the latter being closer to the lingerie example but still quite different nonetheless). However in all cases, I would NOT feel "the blood moving", feel the need to masturbate, or feel the need to have sex with my wife.
At the same time, if I am with my wife and there is not much time pressure, we can have sex. As I mentioned earlier, while the physical sensations are good, it does feel somewhat procedural to me.
Anyways if you made it this far, what are your thoughts? Feel free to tell it how it is (trying not to have the reddit echo chamber stereotype lol)

2023.06.08 16:22 DamnItDinkles Herb Drying Racks? What do you use?

Been in the group for a while but moved back home as my husband and I are buying my mom's house and we're currently doing renovations and making changes. She has an overgrown herb garden we're planning to get back under control but she recently took some clippings. Before she would dry them on the table or counter but the kitchen is small and the table is currently occupied with misc boxes due to renovations. The kitchen is a galley-style and the side of the end cabinets would be perfect to mount something permanent for drying herbs and flowers and the like, but when I tried to look up stuff online it's all fake herb drying racks that are mostly for decoration and the practical ones hang from the ceiling instead.
I looked on Etsy and the ones I'm seeing are essentially just little peg boards that I could buy for significantly cheaper somewhere else or make myself. Last night I taped them all hodge-podge style because I needed to access the counter, and it's working for the most part so I figured I'd ask here what everyone does/uses for drying their herbs.
Edit to add that I'm avoiding the ceiling hanging ones as we have standard/low ceilings and my husband is 6'1" so I don't want to hear him grumble about something in his way.
Here's some links to what I was looking at potentially doing;

2023.06.08 15:51 ChristopherCFuchs The Criminal Underworld of Borel District (lore+visual)

Despite the dark aesthetic, you look on this painting fondly. Master Arasemis has always said that the key the overthrowing the House of Avaleau is to cause the people of the capital of Eglamour to rise up against them, starting in the slums of Borel. The Order of the Candlestone has many contacts in Borel. And there are useful merchants there, such as Vorval’s alchemical candle shop.
Not limited to this painting hung near the students' quarters, you've actually been to the Borel District. You like that Borel is a maze of secret alleys and interesting people. It annoys you that Fetzer does nothing but complain when you and the other students must do a task there. He complains about the stench of the slum, the sight of its open sewers, and the pitiful condition of the poor people there. He even complains about the Candlestone safehouse there, despite it being a cozy place with everything the students need.
You think the problem is that Fetzer had a privileged upbringing, and that he doesn’t seem to take the lofty goals of Candlestone as seriously as you do.

Context: This is an excerpt from the Earthpillar Online: Thorendor Castle interactive. This epic fantasy WIP uses DungeonDraft maps of a castle with hundreds of paintings and lore. Alchemical objects, artwork, bookshelves, chests, and doors are clickable like an old school choose-your-own-adventure. You can wander each room to learn more about the Earthpillar world you’ve read about in the novels (or get a taste of the writing if you haven't), without stumbling into spoilers. 2023.06.08 15:48 xxxLady_Zxxx Create Mod Starter House - Challenge

Everybody has seen all the starter houses people have showcased over the years in vanilla minecraft.
I'm wondering if someone would be up to the challenge of designing a starter house using items and machines from the Create mod.
It can purely aesthetic or purely functional or a mix of both. Everything has to work, though.
Let's see your designs and bonus points for showing us how you did it!

Unintentional Terrazzo discovery. Keep or cover?
We recently had to replace our cast iron pipes on our 1959 home, and when the workers tore into our floors to trench, we discovered that we have terrazzo floors underneath the existing tile! The workers were able to preserve our tiles so they can easily be replaced, but now we’re faced with a dilemma: Do we replace the tile, or get rid of all the tile in our home and restore/polish the terrazzo? (I added additional photos of existing tile around our house.) For context, we live in Miami and the general design scheme in our home is boho/midcentury modern. (Lots of wood and wicker furniture, plants all around) Would love to know opinions from an aesthetic perspective as well as technical. TYIA!

2023.06.08 10:43 7DAYSBOX The Hidden Costs of Clutter

Clutter affects the aesthetics of our living spaces and has a significant financial impact on our lives. From storage expenses to lost opportunities for effective use of space, the hidden costs of clutter can add up over time. A San Jose junk removal service can help you to clear out. Alternatively arrange a San Jose rental dumpster and clear out your own clutter.
Let’s delve into the costs of clutter.
Storage Expenses: The Price of Accumulation
One of the most obvious costs of not clearing out what is no longer needed is the cost of storage. Whether you rent storage units or invest in closets and cabinets to house the things you rarely use, they all cost money. Take a closer look at the items you're storing and evaluate their true value. Consider selling, donating, or recycling items that no longer serve a purpose.
Missed Money-Making Opportunities
Clutter can obstruct potential money-making opportunities. You may forget valuable items buried in piles of clutter. They may become damaged over time. When you regularly clear your clutter, you’ll identify valuable possessions. Even if they have no value for you, they may have value for someone else. Create space for new ideas and even rental income when you hire out spare rooms or storage space.
Clutter's Impact on Property Worth
Clutter has a negative effect on property value. Prospective buyers want to imagine themselves in a clean, organized space, free from distractions. Cluttered rooms can make spaces appear smaller and detract from the property’s appeal. Investing time and effort in decluttering and staging your home can significantly increase its market value and attract potential buyers.
Home Maintenance
Blocked HVAC systems, obstructed vents, or water damage concealed beneath piles of clutter can lead to more extensive and expensive repairs. Keep your living spaces clear and organized and you can easily access and maintain essential systems and ensure that issues are promptly addressed promptly, saving you money on delayed repairs.
Poor Use of Space
Clutter consumes valuable space, preventing you from fully enjoying your home. Unused rooms become storage areas rather than functional living spaces, leading to a missed opportunity to maximize your property's potential. When you clear up you can create extra living space, for a home office, or even a rental unit.
The Intangible Costs of Clutter
An overwhelming environment can increase stress levels, decrease focus, and hinder our ability to work efficiently.
Call us at 7 Day Box to rent a San Jose dumpster or use our San Jose junk removal service and start to clear the clutter today.

2023.06.08 09:30 Ebony_Dream [ Will Contain Spoilers ] My Thoughts after almost 100 hours into the game. [ Long Post ]

Firstly I will state in advance I haven't completed the main story completely. I have gotten all the memories to get the Master Sword and three of the Dungeons. I have seen a bit more when my friend was streaming it as well. This is simply going to be my thoughts and opinions on the game as I've seen and experienced it so far as someone who loved BotW and Zelda as a Whole. This'll be quite lengthy as I went into a bit more detail then I initially planned as well as not being great at initially condensing my thoughts at times. There's a TLDR at the end with everything simplified with less details for those who want to skip what basically became a bullet point essay.
Firstly I will start with the positives.
That's the main positives of things I just enjoyed about the game on its own as they are in the game. Now I want to talk about some things that I liked conceptually but not quite as much with how they were implemented into the game.
Now onto the things I just straight up don't like and/or don't get within Tears of the Kingdom. If you've read up to this point then I really appreciate you taking the time to read everything.
Well I believe that is more or less everything and if you've read all the way to this point then just thanks, really. I appreciate it if you read this all cause I know this was a lot but I had a lot of thoughts. At the end of the day I still enjoy the game for what it is and still plan to complete it and a lot of it's extras side stuff. That being said doesn't mean I can't have critique or simply not care for certain aspects. For me there's a lot of potential in this game that I feel was missed out on among other things.
[TL:DR]
Things I really liked or loved were The return of Varied Dungeons and Bosses. I felt this was much needed in breath of the wild and I'm glad TotK have them. All the little caves you can find and explore and the wells to an extent as well. They made the world feel more interesting. I absolutely adored the Depths and the challenge it brings. I loved the return of more enemies bringing in more enemy variety. Being able to use my horses from BotW and the changes to Bullet Time.
Stuff I liked the concept of but didn't care for the exception of was Ganondorf as I feel like he was a bit weak characterization wise with missed opportunities. Gloom is awesome in gameplay and coming across it but how it's handled in the story was weak and should have just been an extension of Malice explicitly. Sky Islands the lands of missed opportunity as well as not being that interesting to explore. How Zelda and the Past was handled just feels underdeveloped, especially Zelda's role in most of it. The return of Poes is just a disappointing pick up with no interesting enemy attached like in the past. The sage abilities are cool in concept and it's kinda nice having pseudo companions but activating the abilities is annoying and discourages me from using them at times. The fuse ability taking away cool items and making elemental arrows more tedious to use also disrupting the flow of gameplay.
Parts of the game I just didn't really like at all like the lack of any continuity in either story or sheikah tech with all the sheikah tech basically vanishing without a trace or explanation to the limited or lack of mention of previous events. The cumbersome material system when going thru it for arrows or weapons on the fly. Having to spam A to pick up Rupees and Poes where in BotW you just ran over Rupees to pick them up. The Secret Stones being called Secret Stones. The Story as a whole is just lacking in my opinion and not as good as BotW in execution. Just not a fan of the Zonai as a whole. Also lastly Zelda stole my house and I want it back.

2023.06.08 05:44 SellNo6689 Why do other humans think we are naive while it's the opposite ?

Of course we are not the best to detect other humans emotion but we are still smart.
Let me explain y'all a short story I experienced.
I'm a passionate about art and technology, so of course I jumped in the NFT hype, made some decent money with it , and as an artist and I learnt a lot about this ecosystem.
I had the idea to create my own art gallery to help different artists worldwide.
I got approached irl by some guys I knew a bit from university who are working in marketing and adversiting. They said they could help me setting up the startup/art gallery with legal (lawyers, taxes etc) and developpement/marketing. And said to me they love art and know a lot about art and crypto.
So we had a business meeting with a dev, and the guys who work in marketing and some investors.
Before I was about to talk the boss told me in front of everyone "Man I hate most NFTs projects these are not art, I love real art"
Of course the NFT market is full of low effort creation with lack aesthetic, but you don't need to be an art expert to notice that. He just told me that to prove to everyone he knows a lot about art and NFTs.
So we started to discuss. Theses guys own a like 2-3 little startup so they have some experience in running business but I found something odd.
- They know nothing about NFTs, except the dev who was here
- They know nothing about the traditional art market (e.g art gallery take a cut of 50% from the artist)
(auction houses like Sotheby's, Christie's etc pays the artist with a delay of 6 month or more)
- Digital art only represent 5% of the art market
So I realized I had to work with people who pretend to know everything and were only here for a cash grab, trying to get some passive income from the artists revenues sales.

So a week after the meeting, to be sure I sent to them a contract with some shares, details, % etc. And I planned a second meeting to discuss about contract and all legal stuff. Sent them a detailed e-mail with everything.
And oh surpise they suddently didn't answered me. Because I asked them to be clear about their intention.
I just realized sadly most of human run companies and startup not because they are passionate about it but just for a cash grab which is very sad.
So yeah theses dudes thought I was a naive guy that would accept everything just because I'm an aspie.
I think most of the people think people that are in the autistic spectrum are easy to scam which is the opposite I think.

2023.06.08 04:36 Mission_Culture9853 Discussion about Wall E Dream Bundle

I’m just thinking about the Premium Shop and personally how i think things should be priced at. Tell me what you think?
Companion Packs - 500 Moonstones (don’t see them worth more because they do nothing besides just being by your side)
Furniture Packs - 1000 Moonstones (Its just to decorate so not a crazy price.)
Tool Skins - 1500 Moonstones (Completely optional and not needed besides from going with the aesthetic of your character. Not expensive, but not cheap ether)
House Skins - 2000 Moonstones (Also optional, but now that you can place multiple houses, i see this as worth it and it’s the only thing i see as worth it when it comes to the Premium Shop)
Dream Bundle - 2000 Moonstones (The idea of a side quest it nice, you do get resources, and a limited edition character skin with some clothing and decor. This should not cost more than a house skin in my opinion.)
Its reasonable, its achievable, and if you need more moonstones, you buy the packs. Also if things are going to cost this expensive, they need to make moonstones more accessible aside from the Blue Chests and the Starpath. When we get a memory orb, 50 Moonstones?

2023.06.08 04:35 landscapelights WALL BULKHEAD LIGHTS

WALL BULKHEAD LIGHTS
Wall bulkhead lights, also known as bulkhead wall lights, are a type of lighting fixture that is specifically designed for wall-mounted applications. They are commonly used in both indoor and outdoor settings to provide functional lighting and enhance the aesthetic appeal of a space. The term "bulkhead" refers to a partition or structural barrier, and these lights are named after their resemblance to the nautical bulkheads found on ships. The design of bulkhead lights typically consists of a sturdy, often circular or square housing made of materials like metal or polycarbonate. The housing is attached directly to the wall, creating a seamless integration with the architectural elements of the space.

2023.06.08 04:26 Yarbles The Official Report of the May RVA Reddit (no we haven't) Bookclub

It was a fine day in May and we pulled up and talked about some books. We covered Blitz by Daniel O'Malley and, because it was recently Mother's Day, I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. And we spent way more time on them than we usually do, so we must have liked them. Quite a few people read the Blitz. Incorrigible_muffin had previously covered it, but was disappointed in the a payoff, and said the two story lines didn't really resolve. Aurora_the_Off-White said that she liked it, but agreed that it wasn't on the same level as the first two.
She said that Blitz could have a strong philosophical payoff even if the storylines didn't have an strong resolution. If someone read Blitz by itself without the first two novels, they might enjoy it more. Carbonjen thought there was a lot to like about the writer, saying he writes women well. Muffin said there were a lot of interesting possibilities in the world he created. The author covers the British and American versions of supernatural bureaus, but there were many of these throughout the world.
We talked about the story's structure. The main character's lost memory lets the author explain the supernatural elements in detail and do the worldbuilding without any distracting exposition. Munsontime had a thought, asking if it was technically the same person in the body or a completely new personality that developed after the wiped memory. If a personality is a product of the experiences and memories the person accumulates, then it's probably a different person.
Munson blitzed through the first two and is currently on the third. He was surprised at the spelling of the main character's name, Myfanwy Thomas, having listened to the audiobook. I was surprised and a little disappointed that the pronunciation is just "Miffany". Princess_MoNaanKay stopped by to return the first book int the The Checquy Files, The Rook that I had lent out. I thought she was returning it specifically because we were reading The Blitz, but she said she's decided to see other bookclubs. So we just need to move on and live our best bookclub life and hope she finds happiness.
Jennette McCurdy was apparently in a show called iCarly. I had never seen it or heard of it, so I think I missed a lot of context from the book. Everyone else in our group really liked the book - finding it insightful and funny. Most people agreed that the things the author's mom did stood out, and so did the actions of Dan Schneider, who was the creator of iCarly. But she didn't go into that in depth. Muffin said the system that pipelines kids into the entertainment business is fundamentally responsible for many of these abusive situations, and the actions of the mom are a product of that. Aurora thought that the author used humor to cope with loss and grief.
We talked about long wait times for getting books from the library. Carbonjen actually bought Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica because she was not optimistic about it becoming available through the library. She didn't have as many spicy romance recommendations as last time, but did have a couple. She thought Pestilence by Laura Thalassa was good and a fun concept. It's the first of The Four Horsemen series; a romance involving the four horseman of the apocalypse.
She liked The Siren a lot less. I think this was the one by Kiera Cass. Apparently the characters said the word "fishcunt" too many times and it became grating. She also didn't like how a lot of the characters in A Court of Thorns and Roses were developed in the story. She mentioned Brutal Prince only to say it was brutally bad, and is reading Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and liking. And that makes Muffin happy.
Sassypapaya recently read Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, which is very popular around these parts. I think she said she read The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and may have had good things to say about Lightlark by Alex Aster, or that may have been someone else. She was too far away from me for me to follow the conversation from that side of the circle very well. She asked about Verity by Colleen Hoover and Muffin said that Colleen Hoover was a step up from Stephanie Meyer.
Munson and his friends have a rule for their bookclub: you can't use the term "Beautiful Prose". But if he was forced to provide an example of beautiful prose, then he might use it when talking about Another Country by James Baldwin. He described it as "Kerouacky" - intimate and sexual especially for 1961. It's about the Jazz scene in NY in the 60s, with themes of race, gender, and sexual orientation in its cultural context. A slice of life story in the gay, black, jazz scene in New York. The Trial of Henry Kissinger by Christopher Hitchens is next for his other bookclub, Apparently Hank is bumping up against age 100. It was estimated that his cold-blooded policy directives are responsible for 4 or 5 million deaths. We talked briefly about Red Rising by Pierce Brown, which was the biggest book in the world for a minute. Munson said that, as a sci fi guy, he had already read many similar stories before and it just wasn't a big deal for him.
Assaulty recently read American War by Omar Al Akkad, and talked about how people end up on different sides of a conflict. Many times people don't have a choice about which side they end up on, and American War addresses some of these themes. She asked for more like this book. Asterion7 suggested Paolo Bacigulupi works such as The Water Knife and Shipbreaker, which are near future works with major themes of climate catastrophe. For this kind of thing I always recommend Afterwar by Lilith Saintcrow. Saintcrow a romance writer and I was really surprised by this book. It's gritty and hard, and a little spicy but not romantic.
Assaulty also read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and likes reading about creative partnerships like this. She told us about Nevada by Imogen Binnie, which is one of the inspirations for Detransition Baby by Torrey Peters; This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone; and The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks, the first book of the Night Angel trilogy.
Muffin told us about The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson, the next book after the The Yellow Wife, which features Lumpkin's Jail. The House of Eve takes place in DC and Philly and ties in with the events of the first boo., The author will be giving a talk on June 8th at the Library of Virginia, and Muffin wanted to read this before seeing the author.
Please join us for a talk by award-winning author Sadeqa Johnson on her new novel, The House of Eve, the follow-up to her book Yellow Wife, which won the Library’s 2022 People’s Choice Award for Fiction. In this moving work of historical fiction set in 1950s Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., the stories of two women collide in unexpected ways as they both make decisions that shape the trajectory of their lives. The House of Eve was an instant New York Times best seller and was selected by Reese’s Book Club as the February 2023 pick. A book signing will follow the talk.
The Carole Weinstein Author Series supports the literary arts by bringing both new and well-known authors to the Library of Virginia through online or in-person events. Free and open to the public, the series focuses on Virginia.
Coconut read the second book in the Great Cities series by N.K. Jemisin called the The World We Make. Asterion7 picked up Trust by Herman Diaz, a Pulitzer prize winner. He also read We Are All the Same in the Dark by Julia Heaberlin and liked it enough to finish it, but not much more than that.
assaulty is looking for a gateway to Sci Fi, and asked about the distinction between Sci Fi and Fantasy. However many people there are in the room, that's the number of different opinions you're likely to hear at any given time. Some say it's magic versus technology. If Sci Fi doesn't have magic, what about Star Wars and force lightning from those Sith guys? So maybe Star Wars is actually Fantasy and Star Trek is Sci Fi. But what about wormholes and different dimensions and the super annoying character Q? It's a subject worth exploring, but there might not be an answer. To me those are just two different themes with strong aesthetic styling.
Assaulty may have read Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler or it might have just been recommended to her because she is interested in Sci Fi and liked The American War. Skyvrbyvr loved Octavia Butler's Kindred giving it 5 stars. She says it's not just beautiful prose: she respects that Butler is not afraid to create gruff and real people - characters that are somewhat unlikable but somehow still relatable.
Aurora had a huge list of completions and I have no idea if these are all hers or not. But this month she read a bunch of first books across several series. I think heard Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo; Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams the first of the The Dragonbone Chair series (I think she deemed it meh); Elantris by Brandon Sanderson also caught a meh; and Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, the first of the Gentleman Bastards series.
The last one generated a lot of interest as a lot of us have read it and really liked it. Like The Checquy Files, the first book is fantastic and there are diminishing returns after that, though I haven't read the last two: The Republic of Thieves and The Thorn of Emberlain. Munson says that if you read Sanderson, then The Stormlight Archive series is the way to go. Aurora also has Circe by Madeline Miller on hold at the library.
We talked about a few books about music, I think all of these are from Munson, including Meet Me in the Bathroom by Lizzy Goodman: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City 2001-2011; Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain; and Sing Backwards and Weep, a memoir by the singer Mark Lanegan. We also talked a little about Nardwuar, a music interviewer who is amazingly in-depth but often described as offputting.
Munson says he can sometimes be invasive and not enjoyable but agrees that he is talented. Nardwuar is likely autistic and we were informed that "neurospicy" is no longer acceptable. Obviously, I'm cool with someone else deciding what they find offensive and following their recommendations, but I wish we had something to pivot to. We talked about how the line between normies and nerurodivergents can be pretty thin and while gatekeeping mental health can be frustrating, it's also infuriating that people resist any accommodation for neurodivergent people.
I knocked off a few books, including On a Night of A Thousand Stars by Andrea Yaryura Clark; Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata, and Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins. The last was comparable to Station Eleven in terms of quality and themes. The story wasn't as good, but the prose was pretty exceptional. The author was able to do some things I hadn't seen before. I'm reading The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, and listening to a couple courses about Human Pre History, First Civilizations, and pre-Alexandrian Empires.
Apparently George RR Martin joined the writer's strike and is not writing anything, not that you could really tell. We talked about the 8th season of Game of Thrones, and how those two producers just ruined at least hundreds of millions of dollars in sales of DVDs, downloads, books, and comics. One of the most disastrous effects of incompetence on a brand I've ever seen.
We talked about Patrick Rothfus's Name of the Wind and how the main character was a bit of a Mary Sue, but the narrator might have intentionally been portrayed as unreliable. Someone brought up Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits by Laila Lalami, and we added The Moor's Account as August's non-dorky read. Some of the guys don't want to me call it a Muggle book anymore, and would rather call it a regular book. Maybe we need to keep looking for the right term.
We talked about books with actual paper pages versus reading on a device or listening to audiobooks. Carbonjen says she prefers the Kindle Paperweight because her dogs chews up actual books. I read paper, epub, and listen in about equal proportions. I was listening to Dodge, or Fall in Hell and was not liking it, but started liking it better when I flipped to the epub version. Munson says he uses safari reader on his laptop and will set it to autoscroll. We also compared strategies for downsizing our libraries. Very few people keep every book they buy anymore, especially if you have moved your collection a couple times.
We talked about the St. James Muse, trails on the James, the resurgence in skating, and art classes at the VMFA and Visual Arts Studio. We also talked about all the pedestrians being hit by cars and how squaring street corners can slow cars down. Right now corners are rounded, encouraging cars to take them at speed. And how dash cams are an essential equipment for cars now. Chop Suey is now Shelf Life and Wonton is now "Wonny". But has retired and been replaced by two new cats, presumably who are earning much lower, entry-level wages.
Someone brought up BookTalk.org, saying they mostly got ass recommendations out of it. I've used https://www.whatshouldireadnext.com and it isn't so bad, but really isn't any better than Goodreads. I've used Shepherd a couple of times, which can be really good if you're looking for exactly the type of book that has been covered in one of their lists, but it seems to only accept general categories.
