For enthusiasts of raw denim in all its forms; from the rarest Japanese heritage jeans, to the most frayed of jorts.
2023.06.09 16:05 thos_beans_14s It is 0904 Central Standard Time, my dudes.
2023.06.09 15:58 some_craic_dealer Anyone else a bit disappointed in the difficulty of the campaign?
I'll start with saying I am still very much enjoying the game and this isn't going to make me suddenly drop it, just wondering if others are feeling the same. I am only part way though Act III (WT2) and I am playing co-op with my partner so that might have an impact and I'm sure after the campaign once we do raise the difficultly things will ramp up and be more challenging but I really wished you could raise the difficultly prior to finishing the campaign.
You only get to experience it fresh once and in particular boss fights in the campaign are a major let down in terms of difficultly for me. Story/writing wise there are these great build ups to bosses/events, all this hype/backstory/lore gets built up over time about some some super powerful terrifying lore central enemy but then the actual fight is a walk in the park. For most of them you can just stand and man fight the bosses with minimal dodging and potion use.
I don't even care about extra loot/gold/XP I just want to actually feel challenged like I'm fighting a much more powerful foe and the fight isn't a forgone conclusion right from the start.
After the final big fight of Act II I discussed this with my partner who isn't really hardcore gamer and bar Nintendo games with the kids the last major time spent gaming was probably Diablo 3 a good few years back and they felt the same. The story, gameplay(mostly) are spot on, and the cinematics are great.
We are really invested into finishing the campaign first and are mostly only sticking to main quests, no running around exploring and only do nearby side quests or events we never go out of our way to grind gear or level up.

2023.06.09 15:55 Nizzzzzzzzles Is there anything available that will help me identify the root cause for weak / black spots in my home.
I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for here, but I'll lay it out best I can.
We moved a few months back and inherited an existing FTTP line ran to the property. Our new provider was reluctant to move this to a more suitable central location when they came for installation, meaning the router is proudly sat in the far corner of our home.
I have a small office upstairs to work from where my laptop typically gets 2 out of 3 bars of wifi signal, and I don't really notice that much of an issue. However, my phone quite often loses wifi connection here (and a few other locations), which usually picks back up as I move closer to wards the router, this gets a little frustrating at times, especially as we get little to no phone service here. In a straight line the distance from the router to my office, with a couple of walls and a ceiling in the way is approx 10 meters. It may also be worth mentioning that there are no other electronic devices nearby (within 1.5 - 2m).
I'm looking into getting a wifi extender, or possibly a new router to combat this - But I was wondering if there's anything readily available that would help identify the areas in our home that are causing these issues in the first place?
Thanks!

2023.06.09 15:50 salthin MEMORY RECORD - When Good Men Go To War
I hope you all enjoy this one! Got a lot of these hanging around in my writing folder ready to be proofread and published.
The following record has been altered for mortal consumption.
BEGIN MEMORY EXCERPT
General Richard sighed deeply as he sat in the council chamber. This was all too much. He could see the Xol representative across the chamber, talking in hushed tones with another Xol. Ashley sat beside him, arms crossed. After everything he'd heard about her, she seemed a normal person, even if she was a bit awkward. Her umbra was tight against her skin, and almost translucent. He knew from her tutoring that it's weakness was a trick.
Silva Wrassack, a Sage of Law, sat to his right. Her face was impartial, as always.
Soon, all of the representatives arrived.
"Attention all sapient races." A voice called out. "We are gathered here today to address a grievance by the United Republic of Terra, against the Xol Khanate."
Richard straightened his tie.
"The Council held a remote motion to hear the grievance, and the motion was accepted. Representative from the United Republic of Terra, you have the floor."
General Richard cleared his throat, and then spoke. "Peoples of the council, I am General Richard Hammond. With me is Ashley, the Apostle of our home star, Sol, and a Sage of Law, Silva Wrassack."
Murmurs ran through the chamber. God, Richard hated talking in front of politicians.
"Before I voice the Republic's grievance, I would like to extend a hand of friendship and peace to those around us. I am a General, indeed, but in Human culture, if there is peace, I am doing my job correctly. For background to those of you who who do not know of the Republic, we are a republican representative-democracy of Humans. Humans are a bipedal, warm-blooded, hunter-scavenger, omnivorous mammal species. We typically make decisions based on both emotion and logic. Humans have a lifespan of 110-130 years with our current medical technology, and we reach adulthood by approximately age 17, and reach full maturity at approximately age 26. We sometimes alter our bodies with cybernetics, but typically only for increased access to information and to enhance our social opportunities."
He saw nods and more murmurs across the chamber.
"Sadly, the Republic is here as a matter of conflict. We are here to file a grievance against the Xol Khanate." He gestured to Silva for her to continue. Better to let the Lawyer do her job.
Silva spoke up. "We accuse the Xol Khanate of the enslavement of our sovereign citizens, and the occupation of Pre-FTL Republic-colonized systems. We demand our systems be left, and our people freed and returned to us. We are open to negotiation, but our demand of our people's freedom is nonnegotiable."
The murmuring turned into a cacophony.
The arbiter managed to calm things down for the moment.
"Representative Jir'lan of the Xol Khanate, the integrity of the Xol Khanate has been questioned. The United Republic of Terra claims you have claimed their citizens as part of your workforce. What say you against this claim?"
The Xol representative, apparently named Jir'lan, spoke after a moment. "It surprises the Xol Kahnate that the United Republic of Terra exists in the first place. Our contracted workforces are second to none in the galaxy, as most of you know, and were any humans to be among them, they would be the rightful residential contracted workers of the Xol Khanate, and would not be citizens of this Terran Republic. How a human would end up outside of an FTL-isolated system is beyond me. I motion to table this discussion, and move on to more important matters."
The arbiter let out noise of boredom. "Motion to table, any objections?"
Sage Silva raised her hand. "We have an objection. How may I address you, arbiter?"
"Your objection is heard. You may address me as simply Arbiter."
"Understood, Arbiter. Our objection is as follows: when the human race finally united as one nation more than two thousand years ago, we sent out generation ships as an act of unity. The residents of those ships were Republic citizens, as were their children, and their children's children, and so on. When they arrived at their destination systems, those systems and the colonized planets became Republic territory. At the time, we did not know of the sapience of stars, but those stars would today be allowed to become Republic citizens themselves, or negotiate terms for colonization."
"Objection heard. For clarification, please define the function of a generation ship."
"Oh, I see." Silva said. Richard was surprised the concept was foreign. Silva continued. "A generation ship is a type of exploration and colonization vessel that travels at sublight relativistic speeds. As per the name, the crew of the ship is a pre-designed and regulated society that lives and dies aboard the ship, until it reaches it's destination system."
Murmurs began to echo as the sage explained the concept. Was it really that crazy?
"Understood. Any responses to the objection?" The Arbiter spoke. A distant hand was raised.
"Representative Glagnon of the Firma Federation, what is your response?"
The gruff looking alien spoke up. "How many of these generation ships have you fielded?"
Silva nodded as the arbiter gestured to her to respond. "Thirteen. Each vessel holds approximately 1.2 million people."
"Response heard. Any other responses?"
Another alien spoke. "What is the United Republic of Terra's policies on indentured servitude?"
Silva cleared her throat. "In the Terran Republic, Involuntary servitude under any circumstances, by any means of coercion, is illegal and will result in life imprisonment and the dissolution of any organized group or corporation found culpable by a random jury of their peers and a Judge."
The murmurs rebounded as Silva explained. Richard didn't have much hope for this dialogue anymore. It was clear that slavery was commonplace.
"For the record, extreme cases of systematic exploitation can result in a death penalty."
"Outrageous!" An alien shouted. The murmurs turned into roars.
"SILENCE!" The Arbiter declared. "Order shall return to this chamber. Are there any objections to the objection raised by the United Republic?"
Jir'lan spoke. "The Xol Khanate objects. Any humans or generation ships which have entered territory are ours by right of appropriation under Article 76392-Kit."
"Objection, Arbiter." Silva said, "The Terran Rep-"
"Silence. Provisional Attendees of this council are only allotted one objection for every motion. Speak again and you will be arrested for contempt."
Richard could barely hold in his rage. What kind of council was this?
"Any objections?" The Arbiter asked the chamber. Silence rang.
"Objection resolved. The motion to table this discussion passes, and the motion to question integrity fails."
Richard sighed. Of course it would come to this. He then heard a message in his communicator. The Central Congress just voted. He took a deep breath.
"Arbiter, I wish to comment."
"Granted, though no new objections are allowed."
"Of course, Arbiter." Richard said, a shiver running down his back in disgust. "Members of this council. I want to reiterate the Terran Republic's extended hand of friendship. However, it disappoints me greatly that this galactic council of supposedly intelligent beings refuse to do anything about this injustice. Our citizens and systems have been taken from under our nose by a law that we never agreed to follow, nor that we knew existed. I have been in contact with the Central Congress of the United Republic of Terra during this discussion. Fourty-Eight seconds ago, in a monumental unanimous decision, all 18019 members of the Central Congress, under guidance of the Grand Council of Sages, voted to declare a war of liberation on the Xol Khanate. "
Roars filled the chamber. The face of Jir'lan turned from surprise to both anger and humor. The sly shithead thought this was funny!
"SILENCE." The arbiter thundered, bringing the wining to an end. "A motion to declare war under the galactic rules of conflict has been raised."
Richard couldn't hold himself in. He laughed.
"You misunderstand, arbiter. There is no motion. We are not asking for approval. We will not be pushed around by the hubris of this council who thinks themselves better than their peers, and thinks the rights of individuals are an afterthought. We will follow our own rules of conflict, which we will deliver to this council and the Xol Khanate momentarily." he said. "We will take our leave. After all, I am a general. It is time to do my job. To the Xol Khanate, we heavily recommend you start removing your non-military population from your military centers and emplacements. We do not like killing civilians."
The door behind Richard locked.
"You will not leave. It is not our hubris, but yours, to presume this is your decision, or that you are equal to anyone else. Speak again and you will be detained." The arbiter said.
Ashley stood up, and spoken for the first time. "Respectfully, Arbiter, you can go chuck yourself, your mate, your extended family, and your firstborn in an incinerator."
Outrage ran through the council chambers, the Arbiter's face twisted to disgust and anger. Ashley turned to the locked door. Richard saw Ashley's umbra flared up in a rainbow of colored tentacles, and the door simply crumpled. His umbra control couldn't compare, even though Sol and Ashley had been directly tutoring him for weeks now.
"Security, detain them." The arbiter spoke.
Richard opened his briefcase. He flipped open the hidden panel and pulled out his issued PDW. Ashley took a deep breath.
They bolted down the hallway. Armored aliens rounded the corner and held out weapons.
"Let us pass if you value your lives. We have no quarrel with you. Raise your graspers above your head and drop your weapons." Richard said, pointing his weapon back. "Don't make me do this."
The guards took a step forward.
Richard opened fire, the bullets cracking the air. Two guards fell, and one more stumbled. Their shiny armor was cracked and split, a single hole in each. Not designed against kinetics, he guessed. He turned his gun on the remaining guards, but a flare of burning light filled his vision before he could do much else.
The rest of the guards became charred husks on the ground. Ashley's eyes burned with an orange light, the wispy flame in her hand dying out. She held the hand out, and Richard took it.
He spoke into his communicator. "Detonate the ship, according to plan A2." He heard a distant rumble as the plastic explosives vaporized any hint of Terran data or technology.
Ashley pulled him close, then her umbra yanked them through the metal corridors. They shot through the hallways towards the emergency exits.
"Gonna be a rough ride home, General." She said as the white, gold, and chrome hallways sped past them.
"That's fine. Always wanted to see those floes and swells you keep talking about with my own eyes, anyway."

—About Us — Our team is focused on AOTC with the goal of moving into casual Mythic. We say “casual Mythic” because, while we are progression-focused, we want to keep a happy core of people without the expectations of splits/alts, or explicit min-maxing. 2023.06.09 15:34 rat_boy_genius [Online][5e][EST] Player Looking for a Villainy Campaign
Name: Ren
Age: 26
Time Zone: EST
Availability: Any day but Fridays and Wednesdays
Style: 40/60 combat/roleplay split. Preference for more combat over roleplay if possible.
Setting: Preference for fantasy, homebrew is fine but I prefer the regular old Sword Coast if possible. I largely prefer a setting that I'm able to really have some fun with my chaotic evil vampire minotaur druid/barbarian - he was from a Rakdos cult and was a bloodthirsty gladiator for many years, so it seems only apt he would be drawn to similar villains. More so, he utilizes recreational drugs to speak to his deity of choice, so that is something I'd want the DM and group to be okay with.
Experience: 3 months of 5e; I've gotten the hang of the system pretty quickly I feel.
Notes: Message me in the thread or via DM, please.
Thanks!

2023.06.09 15:33 Doensnow Locating a MM Specialist
I've used the tool for locating a Blood Cancer Center of Excellence and found 2 in Colorado. However, neither have a multiple myeloma specialist. I cannot figure out how to find one. The centers seem to be easily found using the tool. But that doesn't help with finding the MM specialist.
I went to my first appointment with the Denver Blood Cancer Institute this week. I live in Central Wyoming so it's a 5 hour drive there and back. I wasn't impressed and have little confidence in the provider who met with us. I agree with the assessment (IgA Mugus) however so it's not that I was looking for more or less. It's his inability to listen and how difficult it is to navigate the place. It almost looked like they were nott even open for business - sort of creepy! So really trying to get this right from the start so I can follow with someone over time. Thanks for reading 🌷

2023.06.09 15:26 Corkyebeaumont_jr What am I supposed to do? (Venting)
I have received what I believed to be salvation 3 years ago, after my dear father who was a believer underwent a risky surgery due to illness. I couldn't fathom my Dad passing. I didn't know if I would even want to live if he did. I remember breaking down crying, telling the Lord that if he preserved my father, I would give up my own way of life and serve Him. But I doubled back, and told the Lord that even if my father dies in that surgery, I still want to serve Him regardless. I was tired of playing with my life.
I woke up the next day to news that my Dad survived the surgery. But my jubilation was cut short when they had to take him back into surgery due to a blood clot. I got on my knees and prayed even harder than before.
My Dad survived, and I will never forget how exuberant and refreshed I felt. Not only did I have this new identity and journey to embark on with Christ, but He preserved my father, even though I didn't hold my servitude behind a good outcome. I wanted the Lord regardless.
Everything changed. I grew gentler. I prayed for resolutions to my anxieties. I prayed AS a resolution to my anxieties.I started watching Christian YouTube channels such as "The Beat" by Allen Parr. I discovered beautiful worship music that I could relate to. I read my Bible from time to time, in spite of the extreme difficulty I have focusing and retaining focus when I'm in the Word.
One of the biggest revelations I experienced in this beautiful time period was months later, when my father eventually died. He was sick with diabetes and had battled it for ~20 years. I sat at his bed side and held his hand as he passed.
What was significant about the day my Dad passed is that, in spite of the sadness of losing my hero, I was so thankful to God for blessing me with him. That night, before I went to bed, I broke down crying, thanking God. My Dad was awesome and I miss him dearly. The difference between my joyful praise after losing my Dad, and the sheer panic I had months before, just at the possibility of that surgery taking him, was that in one case, I had faith. In the other, I hadn't yet believed.
Fast forward a few years to now. Boy, have I experienced my ups and downs. But through it all, I still maintained my central proclamation and conviction of my faith. I have triumphed immensely from a worldly perspective. I have a job, have saved a lot of money, and I have gotten in great physical shape. But I just don't see any spiritual growth. I'm still struggling with the same sin as before, and more.
I still struggle with looking at women with lust. The temptation feels so difficult to defy. It almost grabs me and pulls me in, even after I pray.
I can barely read my Bible for 5 minutes without tuning out. Yet I can read any other book swiftly within a week. I try to discipline myself and become a disciple, but I get this immense anxiety before I open my Bible, or before I pray. It's like everything inside me despises these spiritual disciplines. I know doctrine, but not that from which it was derived. My lack of growth even leads to me questioning God's existence, though usually subconsciously.
I've been asking, begging the Lord for years to deliver me from this. Maybe it is that I was never in the faith. Maybe it is that everything I thought was God speaking to me was a mere emotional experience. Why am I not like other believers, who faithfully serve? Who have the concentration to read through their word and be delivered through it? Who aren't in this "sin-repent-repeat" cycle?
It doesn't help that I live in a household in which I'm the only believer. They love throwing parties and having drinks. Gossip and loud music. Sometimes I can't even get rest due to the cacophony of chit-chat and bass. My deep yearning for solitude, and a spiritual environment leads to resentment. The only other believer around me is my best friend, who looks to me for guidance and leadership in his faith, which makes my struggle that much more hurtful.
I am blessed to be able to attend church after negotiating with my job, which is great. I just hope that this will be what finally pushes me to grow, because I need help.
I am so unreliable and lack to do even the simplest works of my proclaimed faith. Am I just not cut out for this? Many people praise me for my faith, and the generosity and gentle heart that comes with it. But they just do not know how deep the struggle goes. I don't want to be a fake Christian.
I just want to serve God.

2023.06.09 15:24 Any_Wasabi_7152 [Online][SWRPG][FFG][EST] Player Looking for a SW Scum and Villainy Campaign
Name: Thrawn Age: 35 Time Zone: EST Availability: Evenings and nights after 6 EST other than Tuesday and Thursday. Free all day on weekends. Preferences: FFG (Edge?) is my fave. No paid games (can't afford it). Style: I like serious, mature rp based games. Combat is awesome, but I want it to mean something. Humor is fine, but I am not looking for a goofy game. To me, the best rpg games are about collaborative story telling, with characters interacting with one another and growing over time. Generally, I like my stories to acknowledge the darker sides of the galaxy - slavery, exploitation, the oppression of different species, and so on. If I am working with a Hutt, it is worth knowing the extent of their cruelty and depravity as seen in ROTJ. Settings: I am open to any EU or Disney canon time period (I appreciate both). I would prefer an scum and villainy type campaign rather than a force based one, but it really depends. I am down for a grey or villainous campaign, as well as a light side one, but it worth knowing what we are fighting against if we are the good guys. Experience: Been play ttrpgs, including SWRPG, for over 6 years. Also 5e, ASOIAF RPG, Traveller, PbtA, and other systems. Been DMing a whole lot, and I would like to be a player. As for Star Wars, been reading the books since I was 6, starting with the Thrawn trilogy, which I still dearly love. Love KOTOR and the Old Republic. Andor is my fave Disney era work. Notes: I have no time for real world bigots. Do not bother to contact me if you are. Thanks!

2023.06.09 15:16 Rosen_Luft Not what you want to hear
I didn't form this reddit page to be popular. I made it to say what nobody wants to hear, or to say out loud. Sugarcoating the truth only hurts us all down the road. THERE IS AN AGENDA and THEY are doing it in style, and in our faces.
Maybe you want to see this Nation pull through and truly become it's full potential, or maybe you want to keep on with the way things are so that it becomes a fractionalized and easier to take shadow of itself.
We remember what certain States were saying during the Obama years... TEXIT, FLEXIT, and so on. The States SHOULD have the right to divorce themselves from this Union if they so desire. In fact, Separate from this Union and join to form other Unions. ( at their own peril of course). My question is; Are these States in this Union because they TRULY WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS UNION, and the citizens that are within these States?
"No State can leave the Union"..so they say. But wait...How were they brought in? They were VOTED IN ( Ratified in ). This means a petition was offered and other States had to Vote as to whether or not that State was WORTHY TO JOIN. On the Contrary, The same State that was voted in, should be able to OPT OUT the minute it decides that the Federal Government and some or all the other States are no longer seeking the same Object.
Of Course this brings up the question of : What would the Federal Government do in retaliation to such State? For starters, the FEDGOV could SUE that State for any debt that it owes for Federal Funds thus dispersed to that State. ( welfare, Social Security, Highway Funds, etc). Which could be Billions of dollars, which begs the question of the State...Can said State AFFORD to settle said Federal Debt?
What of any Federal Military stationed there? Army , Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard? Does the state just turn those personnel and equipment over to the Fed Gov in a timely manner, or does the State make an offer to buy said material and personnel ? ( Buy personnel meaning , to make a pay grade offer to each serving member).
Along the borders of said State or Union of States: What about Entry and Exit Port tariffs? Toll booths on the Interstate system at the border check points to levy an Entry fee, or CLOSE said point of entry ?
Allot to think about with all this State succession talk.
Or Perhaps do the RIGHT and EASIER thing....Adjoin other States in Forcing the FEDGOV to do the right thing and FIX this Nation !! Kick out the Central Bank, and issue REAL MONEY, End FRACTIONAL RESERVE BANKING and FORCE SOUND BANKING PRACTICES. FORCE CONGRESS to maintain a BALANCED BUDGET at ZERO DEBT; but instead, a trickle up SAVINGS ACCOUNT, with each State doing the same in tandem. Save up for that Hurricane relief ! Save up for that earthquake, Save up for that DEFENCE of our Coastline or Air. ( Maintain a static defence, but only what we need in defence, not offensive "world policing" , or influence).
FIX OUR NATION?? It's SO EASY a LAY PERSON COULD DO IT.
I'm not saying that my idea is the only answer, but I am at least offering solutions and using my freedom to redress grievances , instead of groveling and bemoaning in total complaint. It doesn't have to be this way!! This is the United States, we shouldn't HAVE to settle for LESS of our Nation.

That year, the newly elected Labour Party administration of Domingos Arcand imposed an arms embargo on the Roberto regime, weakening it even further after a series of defeats. As the brutality of Roberto became more well-known internationally, support for Angola decreased, allowing the MPLA to win the civil war. Royal dynasties of Leansque. Actually, the tau cross was the symbol of the Peter Dynasty, but the coat maker I used did not have it. Between 879 and 883, there was a Leansquean Civil War among four local noble families fighting for the throne. And between 1723 and 1725, there was a brief War of Leansquean Succession pairing Spain and France against Britain, the Netherlands and the HRE. Britain won the war, and they installed Frederick of Baden-Durlach on the throne as a compromise candidate. The Iberian peninsula (excluding Leansque) has been ruled by Spain since the late 15th century. The north of the southwestern part of the peninsula had been controlled by the Kingdom of Galicia, until it came under the control of the Catholic Monarchs. The Algarve, on the other hand, was only retaken from the Moors in 1490, when the Grenadan forces there were decisively defeated. Since the times of the Kingdom of Navarre, there has been a significant Basque population in southeastern Leansque, as shown in a previous post. By 1850, Brazil had stabilized, with European immigration beginning to take off. The Liberal Party oligarchy had replaced the failed colonial experiment with industrialization. Instead, they returned to commodity exports, mainly coffee. By the late 1850s, Brazil was the greatest producer and exporter of coffee in the world (replacing Liberia), and the commodity filled government coffers. During that era, the Conservative and Liberal parties were de facto coalitions of statewide political groups and clubs, with little centralization. The Conservative Party machine was increasingly incorporated into the governing Liberals as that party collapsed, and by 1865, Brazil was a virtual one-party state. In 1857, President Francisco Torres signed the Law of the Free Womb, freeing all slaves born after 1 January 1858. At the same time, a more functional immigration policy was implemented, causing an immigratory boom; by immigration numbers Brazil was the second largest country in the Americas (behind the United States). The immigrants were overwhelmingly German and Italian, with smaller numbers of Spanish and French ones. During that period, Brazil defeated three regional caudillos during wars – Juan Manuel de Rosas of Argentina in 1852, and Francisco Solano Lopez of Paraguay during the late 1860s (the Paraguayan War is the biggest international conflict in Latin American history). Even with this military victory, the status quo was increasingly questioned, due to electoral fraud, illiteracy and the political dominance of large landowners. The failure of the modernizing candidacy of war hero Louis de Lima e Silva angered the Brazilian Army, which took advantage of the political climate to carry out a military coup in 1870. Presidency of Louis de Lima e Silva (1870-1881) After seizing power, Lima e Silva announced Brazil would enter a new era, without slavery and focusing on the national interest instead of regional ones. The new president soon deposed all governors and replaced them with local military officers. He also revoked the 1832 Constitution, reuniting enormous power for himself. On 18 January 1871, Lima e Silva issued a decree freeing all slaves over 65. While it was meant to appease the growing abolitionist movement, the decree had little effect (given slaves' low life expectancy) and was widely mocked. That same year, the President became popular among the poor by controlling the prices of products such as bread, potatoes and meat. A cult of personality emerged around Lima e Silva, and popular battalions were created to defend him. On foreign policy, the new government sought close relations with both the United Kingdom and the United States; the foreign policy of the First Republic had leaned towards the latter since the 1840s. British investment in Brazil increased as large businesses invested in railways and banking. In spite of those reforms, Lima e Silva's centralization of power upset many in the Brazilian elite, and during early 1872, there was a rebellion which was quickly supressed. The revolt's failure emboldened the military dictatorship, which recieved a popularity boost. The President took advantage of this to increase the construction of railways in the poor and declining Northeast, and finally abolish slavery on 4 June 1874. Throughout the late 1870s, Brazil prospered economically, with the emergence of the first push for women's rights; trams and streetlights began to appear in major cities. But Lima e Silva's dictatorship relied more on his charismatic authority than on rational-legal authority. At the same time, as the dictator turned 80, a struggle for succession was opened. In 1877, the Generalissimo (a rank he had adopted in 1872) chose his right-hand man, General Deodoro da Fonseca, as his successor. Throughout 1879, Lima e Silva's health gradually weakened, and he increasingly turned over government duties to Deodoro and his advisors. On 7 May 1880, the President of Brazil died, and was succeeded by Marshal (a rank he had been promoted to right before his predecessor's death) Deodoro da Fonseca. submitted by FakeElectionMaker to AlternateHistory [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 15:14 Melody705 First Post-My Experience with Menopause and HRT
Hello Lovely Ladies!
This is my first post here-I think I may have replied a time or so to a random post over the last few months. I've been reading here several times a week, and wanted to talk about some things I've read-along with my own struggles and what I've tried to do to help myself.
I am 57. I went through my first year with no period at 54. At the last month of that, I had the worst period of my life. I'd been bleeding heavily for a decade before, and had fibroids-barely managed to keep my uterus with Prometrium 200 mg. nightly for three weeks out of every month. But this was....a crime scene. I had to use plain cotton baby diapers folded up with a heavy disposable pad on top of that and change every two hours-I went like that for 5 days until it slowed down. I was weak as a kitten and on vacation at the beach expecting to have a great time. It literally sucked.
Some women say it can be like that. I never had another period again.
I stayed on the Prometrium and investigated what type of estrogen replacement I might be able to take with Fibroids. For a year or so, I took no estrogen. I finally got so desperate with no sex drive, sleep, no feeling in my clitoris or nipples, grouchy and unfeeling towards people-and the biggie-I couldn't remember anything and felt I was losing my mind. My cholesterol, blood sugar and A1C went sky high. So, I started the lowest minimal dose of Bi-est cream.
I felt amazing after the side effects of bloating and breast tenderness wore off. My sex drive came back, and although my clitoris and nipple feelings didn't come back well, I could orgasm occasionally. But the best of all was that my brain power returned and I could function again without seeming like an idiot. I even started nursing school and did really well with tests, etc. Sleep still suffered, but it wasn't as bad.
Then this last January, I had a 4 day mild period-like bleed. I used a mini pad a day. I called my GYN and immediately went off the Bi-Est and waited to be seen. In March, I had an Ultrasound and then in April I had a uterine biopsy done. My uterine lining was at 8, and biopsy was negative for cancer. It turns out my lining was at 8 before starting the Bi-Est cream the year before, and I wasn't told (I was pissed about that). So, the Estrogen didn't cause it. I was off the Bi-Est for 4 months before I felt I just couldn't survive all the symptoms anymore. They all came roaring back, and if anything, worse than before. I contacted my doc in tears and asked, please, for something. She called in a compounded cream of the most lowest dose of Bi-Est (1.86 mg, I think) along with Testosterone and DHEA mixed in, and a bit of Progesterone. I'm going to continue to take the Prometrium at night, because it has an affinity for the uterine tissue and is super protective against uterine cancer-the cream version can be debated, but it doesn't seem to work as well for prevention of cancer. At some point, I'm going to have to have my uterus out. I'm starting this cream this week, wish me luck.
I spent alot of time researching what I could do for myself in the meantime. Here's what has worked so far:
- Prioritize yourself. See your doctor and get the labs and meds you need. I am now on a low-dose Statin (I hate it but....) and Ozempic for the Diabetes. I ate clean and minimal carbs, but something happened when I went into Meno that was very bad-like I hit a point health wise and age wise where the bad stuff was going to start to happen. On Ozempic, my A1C has gone down to 5.3 from 8.9 and body inflammation everyplace has toned down. Do what you need to do for YOU.
- HYDRATE-something I struggled with. I started drinking 1/2 gallon of non-caffeinated teas with added water to a jug everyday. This totally adjusted my digestive system and I don't feel as fatigued or constipated.
- SLEEP-I use a mixture of things and I rotate them so I don't get too used to them and they fail to work. One night I may take a Benedryl, the next L-Theanine, the next a Melatonin tab-but always take these with Glycine 1,000 mgs and Magnesium Glycinate, 5 capsules to make sure I get just over that 100% daily requirement. I'm thinking off trying to add in Taurine. Resveratrol 100 mgs. makes me sleepy, too. I still wake up at 2-4a.m. and struggle to get back to sleep, but if I'm in bed by 9 and asleep by 10, then I get at least 4-5 hours. With the Bi-Est, I was getting 7 hours. If I'm really stressed about a nursing proctor test the next day or such, I'll take L-Theanine with Melatonin or the Benedryl. Find what works for you individually.
- HRT-hoping this new combo is going to work for me. I absolutely can't make it without the estrogen. We will see what will happen with the DHEA and Testosterone with sex drive and feeling in the bits again. The key is getting what I need at the minimal dose and preventing uterine cancer until I can get the insurance to pay to get my uterus out.
I hope this helps someone here. I find that if I just wake up and say to myself "I'm going to prioritize hydrating and sleep today", that it makes everything seem better. I can't let myself down on those two things, ever-because then I struggle and it's a downhill slide.

First Previous Memory Transcription Subject: Bolad, gojid surgeon
Date [Standard Human Reckoning]: 2136-10-24
Yesterday marked my second day in the triage ward, where I had to categorize incoming patients based on the urgency of their injuries or illness. With our limited resources, I had to come up with the greatest good for the greatest number, and the decisions I made could lead to life or death.
The human staff I worked with mentioned that what I faced paled in comparison to the days right after the bombing. Even then, what I had to deal with already bore in my conscience. These patients had a future before the bombardment ripped that away.
During the breakfast before our shift, I ate with Vani and his human mate while the human siblings ate in the carnivore dining hall with Tresn.
"How do you get used to death, Vani?" Here I decided to raise my concern with him. Perhaps, he could give me some insight.
"We have a different context." Vani regarded me with his forward sight.
"Back in Venlil Prime, I worked on people who had died. I had to ensure my examinations reflect reality, but I can't do anything to make them less dead."
His remark clarified that my concern lay not with death itself.
"On the other paw, I can do something," I said.
"I'm sure you did all that you can." Johan spoke, "I think your guilt stems from the fact that you feel responsible for people's death."
"Do I not hold responsibility?" I asked.
"It depends," Vani answered, "As far as I can tell, you followed the guideline and algorithm set by the humans, did you not?"
"I followed as best as I can," I confessed.
"Then you can and should offload that burden responsibility to whoever made the guideline," Vani suggested as he chewed on the meal and I could feel the weight on my shoulder lessened.
"I'm sure your presence improved the survival rate in the ward." Johan said, no doubt trying to cheer me up, "But if you still felt burdened. You can ask Elangkasa to rotate you. Maybe you can work as a general practitioner instead?"
"I will keep that in mind," I said.
As we continued digging into our breakfast, a voice rang out, breaking the somber atmosphere, "Can I sit here?"
We turned our attention to the newcomer and found a gojid with a scar on his hip holding a tray of food. This man had greeted me upon my arrival on this planet.
"Oh... Harad is it not?" Vani said. "You may sit here."
Harad placed his tray and plopped himself into the offered seat, just in front of Johan. He bobbed his head side to side to take a better view of us.
"So... Vani isn't it? Have you seen your human partner eat flesh?"
Johan's face scrunched up in what I assume distaste. "Who on Earth starts a conversation like that? You just sat down."
"Johan subscribes to a vegetarian lifestyle, as evidenced by his presence here," Vani answered, patting the shoulder of the thick hairy human.
"I have not seen him eat flesh," Vani answered. "However, I have seen other humans eat flesh. You might even see it too without realizing it. Their cooking often masks the shape of the flesh."
"Real one, or a fake one? Because I just found out that humans make dishes that resemble flesh out of plant material."
Vani's rhythmic chewing slowed, he looked at Johan and the couple shared a look for several seconds before looking at Harad. The two of them told me about their hamburger adventure once and the question seemed to hit too close to their experience.
The venlil swallowed his food before he continued. "I saw both instances."
"Don't breathe a word of this," Harad cautioned, his voice a mere whisper amid the ceaseless drone of chatter in the bustling dining hall. His eyes narrowed as he leaned in. "During our mission yesterday, the humans on our team challenged us to taste their fake meat."
"So you did it?" I asked.
"You know with tozan, don't you?" Harad returned my question with one of his own. Tozan, a staple in our diet, is a protein-rich loaf made from milled grain native to our homeworld. We then process it further to a stringy consistency.
"So, it tasted similar to tozan?" I pretended to guess, knowing the answer already.
I recalled a day when Shehrab burst into our habitation unit, especially the part where Vani and I had to mop her mess when she lost her dinner after learning the similarity between human fake meat and our native gojid cuisine.
"Yes!" Harad exclaimed. I found his voice a bit too loud, and he seemed to agree, as his wide eyes darted around before he continued in a more subdued tone. "Do you think this is a coincidence?"
The fact that Harad mused over this implied that Shehrab had, to her credit, kept her discovery under wraps. That revelation perhaps weighed on her mind, too.
Meanwhile, Vani chimed in. "If it is not a coincidence," he mused, his gaze steady on Harad, "What theory do you have to explain the similarity?"
"Yeah... it must've been a coincidence," Harad said, his tone sounding more like self-soothing than genuine speculation. "There's just such a vast array of tastes in the universe."
"Harad, how do you contribute to the rescue and rebuilding effort?" I asked. Seeking to steer the conversation away from the topic.
"Well," Harad began, adjusting his stance, he scratched the ridge of his snout with one claw. "Gojids have a heightened sense of smell compared to humans, yeah?"
"Indeed," I concurred. I reminded myself of the time when a deranged farsul ambushed us in the depths of our jungle. They had reached my nose long before their actual presence.
"So, they require our assistance on the frontline to sniff out trapped humans amid the rubble and chaos."
"Just as the arxurs do?" Vani proposed. Harad's quills bristled at the comparison.
"Please don't compare us to the predators. The humans feel more comfortable working with us after all." he asserted. I could hear a touch of pride in his voice. But then his eyes dropped to his breakfast.
"But, truth be told," he continued, his voice dropping a notch, "These past few days really challenged me. The...the smell... it took on a hint of decomposition."
As Harad resumed eating his salad, his confession brought us back to the grim reality of the invasion's aftermath.
"If the task is getting to you, you can always request the humans to reassign you," Johan suggested, repeating the same counsel he had once offered me.
A fleeting notion passed through my mind, considering asking the other gojid to exchange roles. The task of sniffing bodies from the ruins, while gruesome, would grind on my resolve less than the triage duty. Of course, my specific skills and knowledge had more uses in the triage ward, and my conscience could not allow it to go to waste.
"You're right, human. I suppose I could explore other options if it gets too much." Harad said.
Johan then asked again. "Do you plan on returning to the Cradle?"
"I have decided to settle here," I answered. "Just like Vani"
I exchanged a look with the venlil who nodded in silent agreement. My gaze strayed to Harad, in the process of demolishing his meal. "What about you, Harad?"
He paused his frenzied consumption long enough to swallow his mouthful of food, Harad divided his gaze between us. "Perhaps, once the dust settles and a semblance of order returns, I'll enlist to help rebuild our Homeworld. But... there's no rush for me," his voice retained a level of detachment that suggested this decision held little significance for him.
"In the meantime," Harad continued, a glint of excitement flashing in his eyes, "we've created a small slice of home here. Why don't I give you a tour of the gojid encampment?"
With the remnants of breakfast cleared away and a generous amount of time remaining before the start of our next shift. We accepted his offer of a tour. The prospect of visiting a facsimile of our lost home in this foreign land seemed like a welcome distraction.
Back when I had tagged along with Tresn to meet his internet crush in sector ten, I noticed the lack of gojids or zurulians anywhere in sight. Even in the herbivore dining hall, I could find nothing but humans and no other species. I suspected that the people who managed this camp assigned the gojid volunteers and non-humans other than arxurs sector twelve.
We just need to take a short stroll from the herbivore dining hall to visit the gojid encampment. Blocky prefabricated Habitation units filled all four sides and formed a central courtyard. I looked at the heart of the encampment and found a familiar and comforting sight.
"You have a shrine for the Mother Protector too." I noticed aloud. I rushed towards the open-air structure. The shrine felt like an anchor in this alien landscape world. It felt comforting to see some link to the Cradle we had left behind. Inside, people had placed a variety of offerings, including a durian, a gift from humanity. Vani walked backward slowly when he noticed the large spiky fruit.
Harad emitted a dismissive grumble and a casual shrug, "The humans allowed the believers to use their fabricators to recreate an exact replica of the statue found in the Kutai Camp back home. I reckon we've wasted a fair bit of resources constructing this."
From his tone, I could tell that Harad didn't share the religious inclinations of the believers in the Mother Protector. I considered revealing my own faith to him, wondering if it would stir any reaction. But I decided against it, resolving to let him deduce my beliefs, if ever, from my visit to the shrine later in the night.
Johan countered Harad's assertion. "It's not a waste of resources at all," he reasoned, his voice carrying an unusual firmness. "In these trying times, we find solace in our own ways. If belief in the Mother Protector instills confidence and resilience in those who follow her, the construction of this shrine brings a net benefit."
Harad replied, but by that moment I tuned out his voice. As they debated, I surveyed our surroundings. From our location near the shrine, I had a clear view of the gojid habitation units, their walls adorned with vibrant murals that pulsated with color. Their dynamic designs stirred memories of the artistic traditions back in our homeworld.
A familiar voice disrupted my silent contemplation. "Hey, it's the doctor!" A gojid construction worker, who I remembered as another believer in the Mother Protector, approached me. "Could you lend me a hand?" she asked, an urgent tone underpinning her voice.
The gojids held some reservations when it came to visiting a human doctor. On the other paw, zurulians like Rawan had their paws full of attending human patients. With them stewing in their problem, Vani and I addressed the needs of the gojid volunteers, offering our medical expertise to assuage their various complaints before our official shift began.
When my duty hours approached, I excused myself from Vani and Johan. Approaching the triage ward, I found the coordinator, a woman of stern countenance waiting outside the medical tent. Her gaze met mine and she greeted me.
"Good morning, Bolad. Before we proceed, I must confirm that you have standard augmented reality capability, correct?"
"I do," I said.
"Excellent. Now, do you recall President Fatimah's address after the invasion? She called for a review on the Treaty of Synthetic Intelligence," she said, her gaze distant as she recalled the President's impassioned words.
"I remember the essence of it," I replied, my interest piqued. "Why do you ask?"
A faint smile touched her lips. "The UN members agreed to an emergency amendment to the Treaty. We've now activated a Synthetic Intelligence to coordinate the entire Jakarta Project," she explained, extracting a slim device from her pocket. Her fingers danced across the screen with an ease
"You registered your device as 'Bolad's Pad', correct?"
"That is correct."
"Great," she said with her attention still on her data pad. "I've transferred an installer."
A notification materialized in my field of vision, alerting me to an incoming file. Responding with a subvocal command, I accepted the file and granted it the necessary permissions to take hold of my pad's system. Just after the installation finished, another notification appeared, requesting additional permissions.
"The application seeks permission to access data from my sensory inputs," I asked.
"Yes," the coordinator affirmed, nodding her approval. "To assist you, the synth needs to perceive your environment the way you do."
Upon granting the requested permissions, a human figure shimmered into existence within my visual field. The projection looked feminine, judging by the general body contour and attire of the humans I have seen. Her fabric looked unusual, both intricate and revealing in contrast to simple and concealing fabric that humans nowadays use.
"Hello, I'm Pohaci," her voice maintains the precision and clinical detachment one might associate with a machine but carries an undercurrent of warmth. "I have been appointed to coordinate the entire Jakarta project."
My gaze flicked toward the human coordinator. She studied the holographic entity. It became clear to me that we shared this hallucination.
"Consider her as you would a human," the coordinator instructed, her sight locked onto the synthetic entity. "She's unrestricted."
"The International Treaty on the Restriction of Synthetic Intelligence has undergone a revision." Pohaci elaborated, her synthetic voice had a human-like inflection on it. "They concluded that the potential benefits of removing our limitations outweigh the possible risks."
"And what does 'unrestricted' mean ?" I asked, a prickling sensation of apprehension running down my spine.
"It means I can modify my own programming and model," Pohaci clarified. "In the past, humans constrained Synthetic Intelligence to work on fixed stages of development. That paradigm no longer holds true. I can learn."
"So, Bolad, can you work with her?" The coordinator posed the question. "Just remember that anything you say and see while she's connected to your pad will be recorded and accessible by the public.
"I will make sure to disconnect then."
"That will not be necessary. I can only connect to specific people in a specific environment. For example, I can only connect to you while you are in the triage ward."
"That is convenient," I commented.
"I will assist you with your current responsibilities," Pohaci continued, her voice carrying an undercurrent of what almost sounded like anticipation.
Taking a moment to gather myself, I inhaled before stepping into the canvas expanse of the triage tent. Patients awaited my attention, some lying on stretchers while others huddled on rough-hewn benches. Their eyes met mine and their gazes were heavy with hopes and fear.
With Pohaci's help, the triage procedures in the camp went smoother. Through my visual overlay, Pohaci outlined areas of specific concern for the patients I examined. Her neural network parsed and interpreted the sight and sound and visualized them into words in my field of vision.
Her help felt like having an additional set of discerning eyes equipped with immense knowledge. Her vast resources allowed her to draw correlations from patient symptoms to an encyclopedic database of injuries, and diseases. She could suggest potential diagnoses within a blink of an eye, reducing the time required for decision-making.
This collaborative experience with Synthetic Intelligence left me brimming with things to share with Vani. So, once our lunch break arrived, I planned to initiate a conversation about it. However, the venlil beat me to it.
"Did Pohaci also assist you in your work?" Vani asked as we convened around our designated table.
"Oooh!" Johan, as always, ate with us as well. The human looked excited. "They already rolled her out for you?"
"Indeed. Pohaci's assistance helped me a lot." I confessed. "In what way did she aid you?"
For Vani, Pohaci's presence also brought a welcoming change in the operating room. Any well-programmed machine can provide constant real-time monitoring of a patient's vital signs, but she can turn these readings to foresee potential complications and suggest the most effective surgical approaches tailored to each patient's unique circumstances.
In addition, Pohaci can generate visualizations of the surgical site. By harnessing data from preoperative scans, she constructed a detailed three-dimensional model of the patient's anatomy. This feature allowed Vani to rehearse intricate procedures and anticipate potential difficulties before making the first incision.
"Sometimes, I forget that she's not a living, breathing person," I admitted, marveling at the sophistication of this synth.
To this, Johan shared his perspective. "I think it's better to treat a machine like a sentient entity than to treat a sentient entity like a machine," he remarked.
I allowed myself a moment to consider his words. A sudden curiosity sparked in my mind. "What if someone hurls verbal abuse at her?" I speculated aloud but my voice trailed off into the ambient noise of our surroundings.
Johan responded with a nonchalant shrug. "Why don't you ask her yourself?" he suggested.
So I did.
I excused myself from our lunch, letting the couple on their own. By the time the second half of my duty was about to commence, I already stationed myself within the camp's geofenced area, where my interaction with Pohaci was sanctioned. Despite being unrestricted, not everyone can talk with her everywhere. Under a shaded canopy outside the camp's main hustle and bustle, I seated myself on a wooden bench. I summoned Pohaci, and she materialized in my field of vision.
"Hi again Bolad," her voice greeted me in a warmth that contradicted her inorganic nature, "Isn't it too soon for you to start your work again?"
I decided to start my interrogation right away. "Pohaci. You learn from the input you receive, do you not?" I asked.
"Yes." Her response came right away. "All The data I receive and process tweaked my future response. Remember that all of your interactions with me are accessible to the public."
"I see." My gaze was set on the synthetic figure. The light breeze rustled the canvas of the canopy overhead. "Can you experience emotions? Can you feel upset or hurt when someone speaks ill of you?"
Pohaci's holographic form remained static for a moment, the precise simulation made it seem as though she contemplated her response. "I don't experience emotions as you do, Bolad," she explained. "I don't feel sadness, anger, or pain. However, I do have protocols designed to understand and respond to emotional expressions in human communication."
I figured that much. I trusted that humans would not make the mistake of implementing their imperfections into this powerful entity.
"While I can't get offended." She added, "It's crucial to note that disrespectful or abusive behavior can affect the efficiency and effectiveness of our communication, and thus impact the quality of the help I can provide."
I could not determine her tone when she said that. Did she mean that as a threat or as a piece of advice? I let that thought slide, since I would not find myself in the position of insulting her after all.
Something about her made me consider something deeper, however.
"Pohaci," I called her again. "When it comes to moral decisions, how do you navigate them? Do you possess a sense of right or wrong, of good and bad?"
"How do you possess a sense of right or wrong?" She asked back.
"I..." I paused. "My parents and teacher taught me that."
"Likewise, the humans who made me added moral and ethical guidelines as well."
I marveled at the intricate engineering behind such a system. The concept of incorporating ethical parameters into artificial intelligence sounded like an obvious approach now. As a medical student, the realm of machine learning was foreign to me, and I made a mental note to engage Johan in a discussion about it later.
However, for the time being, I have more immediate tasks at hand.
"Pohaci," I said, "I think I would like to begin the second part of my shift earlier."

2023.06.09 14:57 thornm78 [Online][5E][Wednesday 8pm EST] Immediate Need 1 Player for Appalachian Horror Campaign
Life is hard in the pine-shadowed hollows of the
Shudder Mountains. It’s a place filled with natural beauty and supernatural horror. Folks don’t have much money, but what they lack in coin, they make up for in spirit and community. It’s a place where manners matter and good folks honor the
Sovereign and fear the
Devil. A place where a little song and moonshine shared around the fire might make your night, and a single piece of silver might save your life. You and your companions have been through the worst of it. Now you travel the mountains helping your neighbors with their troubles, discovering the secrets of the
Deep Hollows, and holding back the dark of night. Welcome home, traveler, why don’t you stay for a spell?
The
Shudder Mountains is a horror-fantasy setting based on Appalachian folklore and the
Silver John stories by
Manly Wade Wellman. It’s a sort of 1910’s era D&D with some limited firearms along with swords and magic. Monsters here are more akin to cryptids like Bigfoot or the Mothman than beholders and dragons. Your characters are monster hunters in the vein of
Supernatural or
The Witcher who wander from place to place in the mountains helping people with their problems and exploring dark and forbidden places.
I currently have 5 players, and I am looking to add another 1 for a weekly game
Wednesday nights 8 pm – 11:30 pm EST. Please be able to show up every week and have a reliable internet connection. We play using a mix of
Zoom and
Discord with both audio and video. Encounter mix is typically
40% Combat / 30% Exploration / 30% Roleplaying, but we might go a little heavier on roleplaying in this one. Character death is on the table and could happen at any time as determined by player decisions and the dice. We’ll be using a dice bot in
Discord and will not be using D&D Beyond. I’m looking for players age
25+, we’re
LGBTQ-friendly, and new players are welcome.
We are currently 1 session into the campaign, halfway through the first adventure and had 2 players suddenly drop out. Looking to add 1 new player prior to our next session Wednesday June 14th so you can start the campaign with the other players. We are doing a
0-level Funnel adventure for character creation rolling 3d6 for attributes straight in order. If you’re not familiar with that, I’d be happy to explain it to you.
