Anybody else have genetic diseases they never knew they had till too late?
2023.06.09 15:05 new2thisNov2021 Anybody else have genetic diseases they never knew they had till too late?
I just read an article about chronic disease or illness fakers. I am thoroughly disgusted that even more people are more ignorant than I thought possible beyond my immediate family.
Right before the age of 40 I passed out waiting for a table at a nice restaurant, slowly drinking a beer. Luckily I had not been a heavy, medium, or even light drinker for almost 10 years. All I really had physically wrong with me at that time was testosterone therapy, come shoulder surgeries, and chronic, sometimes horrible pain. Oh, I was also told I had a great, really great bronze California tan.
After that incident right before age 40 I had every test I could have done to explain what happened. Witnesses said, im 6'3 195+ lbs, I just turned white, became instantly soaking wet, and fell straight backwards like a 2x4.
After all the tests were completed I discovered my Iron(its really called ferratin) was at a level of 3,900 (normal safe levels are 50 to 200 roughly. I was given a genetic test for hemachromatosis, which is pretty common, and not a super big deal when treated early. In fact, anyone with hemachromatosis cam firmly state that we people, all people, black, while, whatever are related. Black people have a genetic disease called sickle cell disease. If not treated and allowed to run rampart sickle cell turns into hemachromatosis. Nuff said.
The main treatment for hemachromatosis is bloodletting, the amount of blood you need to get out of your body and how much at a time and how often is usually dictated by the level of your ferritin in your blood at time of diagnosis. Most people, fortunately, get detected and treated by 700 to 1500 level of Ferratin. The body is basically killing itself, "rusting away" to say at levels if 1,000 plus of ferritin.
Now five leads later, testosterone implants every 3 months or so, bloodletting (phlebotomy) treatment 4 times a year now ( I started giving over 550 grams of blood 2 times a week for 4 months, and then once a week 4 or 5 months, and so on and on. I have had a pretty extensive cervical neck surgery, cages, holes drilled in arthritic areas and nerve openings opened up, both hips totally replaced, a knee replacement on left knee coming up soon, always a pain in my ass,, literally,, lol. There's other things, I have to get liver biopsies every year, heart tests performed every year, no alcohol, low Vtamin C diet, no more liver and onions, and reduced use of cast iron and other high iron cooking and eating utensils.
Thing is,, if you see me just see me, you'll see a big, strong, agile, balanced man. But what you dont see is how hard it is for me to just get up and drink a cup of coffee some mornings, or how bad both legs ache, hurt, throb, and sometimes especially feel totally exhausted 2 hours after I wake up. Or a serious neck, nerve issue that I just keep massaging and turning my head.
I don't take opiates, except after surgeries, I can't take much Tylenol or ibuprofen and related. Mostly ice pack/machine, heat pads, hot hot bath soaks, stretching (carefully), keeping moving, and pushing myself everyday or at least 6 days a week harder than the day before.
I have half siblings, 17+ years older than me, with bone spurs, maybe knee replacement, obesity related issues, lack of movement/ exercise issues, and on and on.
I'd happily trade places with them, but keep my age, and very few people I imagine get what I'm about to say next . I decided after the first 6 months of diagnosis I was going to "break and fall apart before I rusted and rotted away".
Do you get that? Understand ? I am happy, no I get exited and thrilled inside when I see people with obvious issues, obesity, laziness, bad diet, drinking, etc struggle, not do, or unwilling to do things they should do, much less want to do to make this life more,, make this life better for themselves. I say F' u all those ignorant dumb lazy scared people that say things, think things, act differently when they interact with you, not knowing you closely and really knowing you, when they see this person that looks, moves, and does lots of physical things better than they can,, and they think your faking or putting on or playing poor pity party me,,, no screw you guys,, try, literally walking 10,000 or more steps in my shoes each day and more, yet sometimes not able to even crawl or move for 2 or 3 hours after 4 or 5 or less some days just living life.
Anyone else have similar stories ? Or experiences? I still can't get over the fact that had a been a normal,, or whatever you call a person who drinks a six pack a week, alcoholic drinker I would definitely for sure have had cirrhosis or liver cancer by now for sure and probably be dead. Anyway,, let me know thanks.

2023.06.09 13:55 WrongKielbasa Unsolicited ebike advice
I showed my landlord my ebike and he fell in love. I wrote him an email, which is essentially the post below, hoping to get him up to speed qucikly. Thought maybe my advice would help someone else:
My Ebike - Trek Dual Sport 4
- Bafang BBS02 mid-drive 750w
- 48v 13ah Unit Power pack
- 500c controller head unit
- Tuned head unit (like usb cable)
- 45mm tubeless tires
- 63mm fork adjustable air ride
- Raceface pedals
- 50mm seat suspension post
- Trek metal fender (only rear)
- ORTLIEB Gravel-Pack duo
- Cygolights front and rear
- I should note that I used this bike because I got it for free
In essence, it's like a modern reinterpretation of a classic 1990s mountain bike with a more rider-friendly geometry. You can take it on some single-track bike trails, but don't expect it to hold up when things get super bumpy. It's not built for that downhill rush.
1000’s of options to choose from. You could go for an inexpensive front-wheel conversion, just switch out the front tire, or you could opt for a rear-wheel conversion. Then there's what you've already tried: a mid-drive. Each comes with its own pros and cons, but mid-drive is your best bet. It harnesses the bike's front chain ring, turning your 2x10 mountain bike into a 1x10.
There are loads of impressive ready-made ebikes. For around $2000, you can get your hands on a slick, well-integrated solution that can hit speeds between 20-28mph and may include a throttle. However, it might only have a 500w limit and if the manufacturer stops producing parts, well, you're in a bit of a pickle.
Making your own ebike is similar to the old school hotrod culture. You grab a powerful motor, fit it into a suitable body, and watch it zip faster than it was ever meant to. I've invested a lot of time fine-tuning my bike to suit my preferences. Though I sometimes wish I'd started with a more aggressive mountain bike rather than trying to upgrade to that standard.
My bike's journey to what it is now cost around $1200 for the bike, plus $800 for the motor and battery, and an additional $300 for labor. I'm pretty certain you could do this yourself, and of course, I'll lend you my special torque tools whenever you need. There's a huge online community backing this hobby.
You could get the guy to build you one too. Mailing bike costs like $50 (take it apart) each way. But I’d be shocked if Colorado didn’t have someone who could build one too. I’m not super handy and I was able to figure it out.
Nearly any bike can be converted. For instance, fat tire bikes can handle sand, mud, and snow! They're a bit heavy and need extra power, but they're great for off-roading. Or you could get an old 1970s road bike and push it to 50mph, hypothetically speaking. If you're in the market for a bike right now, I'd recommend a 5-10-year-old hardtail mountain bike that could cost you around $500. Look for disc brakes, a decent gear set, and ideally about 100mm or more of suspension. Also, ensure the bottom bracket (the part where the crank is) fits the motor. Most bikes should be okay, but I'd steer clear of 40-year-old Italian models.
If budget isn't a constraint, a full suspension bike could be the way to go. The crucial factor is the amount of space within the frame – you don't want the frame to crush the battery. Earlier 2000s full suspension bikes, with their expansive triangular frames and smaller travel, are a good choice.
Keep in mind that the 90lbs of torque from the motor can strain your bike pretty quickly. It's wise to start with quality parts, ensure easy part availability, and aim for a relatively new model for smoother rides. I would advise against low-end models from Mongoose, Schwinn, or Walmart as the motor can quickly wear out cheap components, and finding suitable replacement parts for these frames might prove tricky.
Now, think about your ride: - Where do you see yourself riding?
- Will you be tearing downhill, dodging rocks and tree stumps?
- Do you see yourself conquering mountain passes?
- Or would you prefer leisurely park rides?
- Do you plan to use the bike for errands?
- Picking up a $300-500 bike may mean having to invest more once you realize certain parts are worn out, resulting in a less polished final product.
- If you go for an $800 entry-level mountain bike from brands like Cannondale or Trek, are you comfortable tearing apart a new bike?
- Adding up all costs, you'll probably be around $2000 deep, which is pretty close to the price of a decent ready-made ebike.
- Keep in mind that there's a slim chance of everything failing to work once assembled. If it's DIY, you're on your own.
That said, building your own ebike results in a more powerful, tailored product. I couldn't be happier with my build, and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's all about making those tiny adjustments to perfect it. If you're into that, here's what I recommend: get the Bafang BBS02 like mine or perhaps the slightly more robust BBHD. It's roughly 30% more powerful and 50% pricier, but you'll need a more substantial battery to keep up. Be aware, the powerful version is slightly bigger, heavier, and could have fitment issues on certain bikes. There are other motors available, but in terms of value, Bafang takes the cake.
Investing in a good battery is crucial. A quality battery avoids voltage sag, ensuring steady power draw – mine is slightly undersized, and under heavy loads, the battery dips 10-20% then rebounds. This isn't ideal. I cannot overstate the joy of a suspension seat post. It's no full suspension substitute, but it negates about 80% of bumps.
If I had to pick a car that's similar to this ebike, I'd say it's maybe a Porsche Cayenne non-turbo. The bike started as maybe a Subaru Forester, but by changing out the fork, swapping for the suspension seat post, tubeless tires, and the Bafang USB cable tune, the whole ride greatly improved and felt much more refined. It's fairly quick and can hold a decent amount of accessories since it's more of a commuter touring bike with slightly more aggressive tires now. It's also mediocre off road, and being a Trek, it doesn't completely suck as a bike to start off with.
Would I choose the same bike if I did it all over again? I keep asking myself that all the time. On one hand my bike is perfect for where I ride (gravel roads or state parks) while on the other I'd always want to ride a little more aggressive trails, but I know I shouldn't. I suppose I'd prefer a proper mountain bike with over 100mm of travel with bigger beefier tires - but again where would I really use this. My bike is objectively perfect for my needs. On some occasions I've noticed my shock bottoms out.... but that's because I was going too fast anyway and needed to slow down anyway. I'm fully aware that I don't need to go any faster or on any rougher terrain.
I've rambled on long enough. There are so many exciting options out there. The lowest you might find pre built is around $1000, but for a faster more fun model, you'd be looking in the $2000-$3000 range I'd guess. $4000+ is where you start being able to climb mountains and 6000+ is where you can basically jump off cliffs and the bike won't disintegrate from under you lol.

2023.06.09 13:38 Few_Shelter_7143 Wandering aimlessly
Apologies in advance if this turns into a book. I'm trying to organize my thoughts and I think there's a lot to process. If you get a little, or even all the way into this post and decide I'm a nutjob, no worries, I agree. This post an attempt to reach out and get objective feedback on my situation and maybe help me find a path forward. People try to paint themselves in a sympathetic light on these things or try to get people to respond in at way that confirms their own beliefs. I'm actively trying to avoid that, so this post may not paint me in the best light. If your objective feedback after reading this is that I'm an asshole and all of this is self inflicted, that at least gives me a starting point for improving things.
I (45m) am currently in my car driving around the US, mostly aimlessly, while I try to figure out what's next. I just went dark on my long time girlfriend (42f), family, and friends. Except for a laptop, camping gear, and car, I've left everything behind. I don't have a plan and haven't been able to come up with one as I can't seem to create a plan beyond more than 3 steps into the future. For now, it's mostly get food, get gas, find a safe place to sleep. I quit my job a couple of months ago because I just hit a point one day where I couldn't function and was too frustrated with my inability to progress, I didn't even give notice, I just stopped showing up. For context, this wasn't something like a mcdonalds job, it was a 200k+ career. I had people relying on me to deliver work and actually enjoyed my career for the most part, so walking away from it wasn't a trivial thing. I'm honestly not even sure at this point if I'd be able to restart my career *if* I do get my head straight again. So, that's the now-of-it, alone, adrift, and directionless.
I've been putting a lot of thought into how I reached this point. I believe it was a result of my relationships collapsing and general disillusionment with life.
I grew up poor in a single parent home, in and out of homelessness, with a lot of food insecurity. I used to think my mom did an ok job getting me to adulthood despite all that, but I've come to realize I came through with a lot of issues and baggage. As an example, I'm not what I would consider a good person. Lying, cheating, and stealing aren't moral issues for me, they're survival skills. If you've ever been hungry, truly hungry, you'll probably understand. I'm not proud of the skillset, and the more financially secure my life is the less I need to rely on it, but I think explaining my family life is key to understanding my current point in life. Another complication is that when I *try* to do the right thing it's sometimes to my own detriment. I'm a firm believer that your word is your bond. So when my mom told me at age 8 that I would one day buy her a house and fix all of her worries when I grew up, I became obligated to do so because I childishly agreed to the statement. In my mid-30s I bought her a house, had it completely renovated, and signed ownership over to her before the ink was dry. Despite having 1.2k a month in student loan debts, living with roommates to make ends meet, not being able to start a family of my own because I was barely over the poverty line (38k a year at that point), and... most importantly of all, knowing that she had zero financial responsibility and accountability on home ownership and that I'd probably be constantly bailing out that situation. I wasn't wrong, she nearly lost the house to the county for delinquent taxes the second year of ownership. I paid off the house and renovation expense so she only has to save ~$50 a month for taxes as her only expense on the house (utilities aside). I suspected the whole thing was a bad idea before I did it, but it's a part of my nature I'm constantly at odds with. If you have nothing because you're poor, your only offering of value is your word. Once I've been obligated to something I can't force myself to break the obligation, even if I know it'll be completely absurd. Another complication of the good deed (buying the house) is that my sisters and their children are constantly trying to gain ownership of it in one scheme after another. My family is not good with money, logic, or reality, so the idea of selling a 50k house with a $50 a month expense to move into a 150k house with a $1000 monthly payment appeals to them. I love my family and want to do right by them, but despite my efforts to improve it they are children. I spend a lot of time and money getting them out of self-created situations, and unfortunately they know and abuse the fact that if I say I'll do something it gets done. I constantly stress over being unemployed because *they* might need something. Oh, one last thing on the family life. I used to reach out to them to find out how they were doing and what was new, but over the past few years I've come to realize that was one-sided. *If* I get a phone call, email, or message it always means they want or need something. Usually it's for an overdue bill, to get a utility turned back on, lapsed taxes, or bail. About once every three months my mom sends me realtor listings for million dollar homes that she'd prefer to live in because the house I bought her didn't check all of the boxes she had in her head and I therefore haven't really met my obligation on it or something. Never "hey, how are you?", "what's new?", etc. They have absolutely no idea what's going on in my life, or me, and don't seem overly eager to find out. They don't even know when my birthday is, and only got a vague idea of what quarter of the year it falls in when I stopped sending them yearly gifts a couple of years ago. I told them about six months ago around Christmas that I was struggling, really told them and was very candid about being depressed but I didn't tell them any sources of my stress other than work. I try not burden people with my problems but it was a particularly painful low point for me and a bit of a last resort. I haven't been contacted by them since that trip: I avoid thinking about this too much.
I've a few friendships, mostly online, I established decades ago but some in person as well. These all got strained during the pandemic as I grew bored with an online presence and wanted something more tangible, while my offline friendships were out of reach due to isolation. As I tried to branch out and try different activities, sometimes even different but similar games, I discovered a resistance of my friends to try new things unless it was strictly on their terms. When I realized this I dug a little deeper and realized it wasn't just the games themselves, but even during day to day they only wanted to do activities that they chose, immediately shutting down anything not originating with them. I consider myself a pretty easy going person and not overly demanding. I've come to realize my attitude towards life may have created a situation where I'm surrounded by people that are only interested in being my friend because they always get their way. I started testing this by trying to get some of them to do activities that I was certain they would like, even if I didn't, just to see if they'd partake. Time after time they refused to even entertain the suggestion, and yet I have several examples where the same activity was suggested at different times on their terms, sometimes vehemently, and they considered it the best thing since sliced bread. I spent a few years dissecting these relationships and I can now state with certainty that these relationships are just very one sided. It's made me conclude that I am the one seeking out these types of relationships. Something in me is causing me to surround myself with self absorbed people.
Lastly, my girlfriend and I have been in a serious relationship for a little over ten years. I don't know if we have a good relationship or if it's just another problematic relationship. At this point, I'm questioning everything I know about myself and the people around me, so I don't actually trust my own judgement. The first few years of our relationship were good, but with mixed long distance as I had to move away for work but we kept it going. I eventually moved back to her city and we discussed living together. I told her my only reservation was a previous experience living with someone. Shortly after moving in with an ex the ex quit her job, kicked up her feet, and seemed to settle into domestic life. The ex didn't really discuss any of this, just kind of decided on her own one day, and it ultimately led to us splitting. The current girlfriend told me many times that I was projecting insecurities on her and she wasn't like that. This was about three years into the relationship. She swayed my fears and I moved in with her. Two months into living together her dad gets sick and she quits her job to become his caretaker. That lasted another two years before he passed away and I took over all the bills to help out during that time. We then discussed buying a home and moving since I could get approved for the mortgage and she had enough money for a down payment as she'd gotten a little inheritance. I was hesitant to buy more than we needed in a house but she wanted more and swayed my concerns by telling me when she got a job we'd have an additional chunk of money to handle it all, so we got a larger house. That never materialized. In the years we lived in the house she would take short-term jobs and probably only worked for about three months in the whole time. She ultimately decided to return to college to get a second degree. I told her I would support that, but she had to get a degree that she could actually use to get a job since she considered her first degree to be useless. She *assured* me that she could get a job with it no problem, so I supported her. She graduated during covid with a bachelor's in speech pathology and told me that she wouldn't be able to find a job immediately due to working from home and needing lab hours. This over the course of a year or two evolved into other reasons eventually landing on she would need to get a master's degree in speech pathology to ultimately get a job. Since she still didn't have a job I insisted we sell the house that I was drowning in. We did and moved into a rental. While living there she held down a job for around four months before quitting as she didn't enjoy it. At some point she made a comment about being fortunate enough to pick and choose the work she did, it still stings to think about having that conversation as I was around 8 years into a job that I absolutely detested but stuck with for stablity.
That's probably my second biggest issue with her. I wanted to start a family, she wants kids too. Honestly, having kids in this world we live in scares the hell out of me and I'm not certain it's fair to the kid. In order to overcome my own issues (see above) I need to be certain my kids have the best start in life they can have. That means not being raised in a family living paycheck to paycheck. They'd have enough to deal with with the world exploding, being concerned about the next meal shouldn't be a thing. So for me, I needed us to be financially secure for that step. We never got there. She doesn't understand the value in keeping commitments like I do, especially when the promise of something down the line is your only bargaining power, but maybe that's just me holding her to a standard for something I've acknowledged is a personal problem. The biggest issue I have is that she's super conflict avoidant. I can't have important conversations with her that may create discord. Anytime we have a conversation that causes discomfort (even slight) she shuts down and won't talk, generally she'll just walk out of the room. Upside?, we never argue. Downsides? I have to guess as to her wants and needs, or get blasted with an encyclopedia of information when it's clear I'm considering ending the relationship, it's almost like a trump card now. I get frustrated and try to make a plan for the future and suddenly get inundated with hopes/dreams/fears I'd suspected existed but never had any real confirmation. Unfortunately at this point it may just be too late of a revelation for me? Once you past a certain point of frustration, the original reason stops mattering as much. This has been particularly pertinent for me over the past couple of years. I got depressed, [I deleted this section going into too much detail about my depression] so I had a conversation with my girlfriend. It just seemed to make her uncomfortable and seemed pointless, so I've never brought it up again. It made me understand how all those husbands and fathers off themselves and their families seem completely oblivious there was ever an issue.
I try to think about this objectively and put myself outside of my own perspective, but it's hard to know if I'm reaching valid conclusions or just have a skewed perception of reality. I mean, people like good people right? So if I was a good person, I would have people to talk this over with instead of posting to the interwebz. So that strongly suggests I'm not a great person. The evidence kind of supports this with my family's lack of contact after broaching the subject with them and there were some attempts on my part with friends, same result. I also once asked my girlfriend if I ever inspired her to be a better person. She laughed and definitively stated no. It was discouraging. I felt I genuinely supported her getting her degree and finding a career she was happy with. I didn't put time limits on it and never questioned her about finding work. I also tried encouraging her to pursue her other interests that may or may not have mattered monetarily. I hoped for better things, but I can only conclude she took any attempts I made as criticism instead. I'm probably rambling gibberish at this point.
Anyway, I'm trying something different now. For most of my life I've focused on what other people want: job, family, friends, girlfriend. At this point I don't actually know what I want vs. goals I've adopted from other people's agendas. I've pretty firmly decided to separate myself from the people currently in it. I've going back and forth over events of the past several years and I just can't objectively conclude they want me in their lives in a meaningful non-transactional relationship.
A. Buy a house in the woods and try living by myself - I'm not really rich at this point but I can afford to buy a small homestead and live independently for the rest of my life. I am very comfortable in my own company and just haven't had good luck with people in general. I could see this giving me time to explore myself a bit more and maybe approach the world on my own terms in the future.
B. Move to another country - This may sound like running away, but I think there's a bit of value in having the option for unconventional relationships. I'm not really sure what kind of relationships I can maintain at this point. I've lost trust in people in general. It would force me to approach interactions with people in a more elementary way, which I think I could benefit from. Any weirdness in my interactions would hopefully be written off as "he's just that weird American". I suspect people are a little more willing to be patient with "foreign friends". This option gets bonus points for not running the risk of getting shot up if I decide to check out the local mall.
C. Walk about - Travel a bit, stop and explore, work through internal conflict. Keep moving until something clicks in place. I'm kind of already doing this and it's not mutually exclusive to the other items on this list.
D. Check myself into a nut house - I had a friend struggle with his mental health in my twenties and I watched him go into facility after facility to no avail. I've also seen the studies where perfectly healthy people check themselves into facilities without ever reaching the point they were "qualified" to be released. So I am skeptical there is permanent help here. However, I am also aware that my self assessment ability atm may be compromised so am open to the idea of an alternative path.
Yeah, that was a book of text.

2023.06.09 13:32 wardXn 35 day solo itinerary check across western Honshu, Shikoku, Osaka/Kyoto, Kanazawa and Tokyo
Hello, I would like to seek fellow redditors opinions, input and recommendation on how I could better finetune my itinerary better. There's only so much I can think of, and plan as an individual, but with everyone's input and comments I can further refine and enhance the travel experience before I set foot into Japan. Do forgive me in advance for the theorycrafting wall of text.
I know it may be difficult to review the itinerary, so to make the review easier I have broken the itinerary down into specific sub-groups e.g. Shikoku, Kinki etc. Specific questions that I have are bolded.
Thank you in advance for taking your time to provide your opinions!
-------------
Baseline information
- 32M, average fitness, solo traveller
- Public transport only (challenge); I have a driver's license but I have not drove a car for god knows how long so I would prefer not to test it against the green hills of Shikoku
- Interest: anime (select few), experience autumn/nature, visiting secluded spots, and just trying random stuff
- JP language skill: rudimentary at best (N4), but I will not shy away from speaking in simple, broken japanese or use a translator to communicate. Reading/interpreting kanji is not a problem (in general).
- Visit history: Visited twice (once to Hokkaido for ~8 days, and once toKyoto and Osaka for 8 days
- Will probably travel around with a (slightly) oversized luggage at ~166cm (A+B+C), that’s the only one I have with me. This will be a problem on the Shinkansen (but hopefully not so much on sightseeing trains/limited expresses).
- Will be visiting during (almost) peak autumn at 11 November, and will depart on the 16th of December
- Jet lag is unlikely to be a problem (1h time difference), but nevertheless I will maintain a low tempo on the first day to acclimatize to the environment
- Only thing firmed as of now is the air ticket, everything else is up in the air.
- I like planning/min-maxing to some degree, though I recognize that I may not fulfill all objectives during the trip and I am totally ok with that [its just a guideline or framework to give the holiday some structure, that’s all.] FWIW, I personally like traveling at a high tempo pace like some japanese travel show do (e.g. ローカル路線バス乗り継ぎの旅)
Specific goals/objective:
- Experience Shikoku in autumn (specifically the views at Iya Valley) and in other prefectures (thus making nature sightseeing more of a priority this time round)
- Experience Kanazawa for anime stuff
- Experience the Shimanami Kaido in full (including any sightseeing spots in between the 6 island chains)
- Bonus - try as many sightseeing trains as possible.
- Bonus - if weather, time and schedule permits, try skiing as an option in Nagano.
- Bonus - stay in as many onsen ryokans as possible, without breaking the bank.
Locked-in prefectures [i.e. I will definitely go to those prefectures no matter what]:
- Shikoku (as per above objective)
- Hiroshima (because its on the opposite end of the Shimanami Kaido)
- Kanazawa (for anime related reason)
- Tokyo (that is my starting and end point so it has to be included by default)
All other prefectures are basically
float i.e. I am open to consider dropping said itinerary for something else based on your suggestion that aligns with my preferences/interest. Most of the other locations I added are prefectures that are often next to each other, or well-connected (apart from the initial Tokyo Kagawa jump via Sunrise Seto/Shinkansen).
Wait-list prefectures (prefectures that I want to go, but I don’t think I can realistically fit in without dropping other locations):
- Snow skiing at Nagano (depending on how cooperative the weather is in early-ish December (would 2 days be sufficient?))
- Ehime, Kochi expansion [spend 1-3 more days]
- Izu Peninsula (~2 days, via Saphir Odoriko)
- Nagoya + lower Nagano (Kiso Valley) (~3 days)
- Ishikawa expansion [1 extra day at Kaga]
I am open to dropping a few days in Tokyo/Osaka etc to make that trade off [currently kept 3 days free for further development]. Alternatively, if the planning can be better optimized based on your inputs I might be able to do one of those without compromising on the base set. I would like to hear your opinion on what locations you would drop in the itinerary to make time for one of the above.
General planning philosophy:
- My itineary adopts a breadth approach (cover as much area as I can humanely possible without rushing/touch-and-go) as opposed to depth (i.e. spending much more time within Shikoku than what I allocated); though I would be open to considering more days at selected locations if you have strong recommendations. My thought is to experience how different autumn is at various parts of the country (if possible), and maybe winter too (to a certain degree).
- Due to the nature of my travel, I note that luggage logistics is a critical consideration when moving between prefectures; my thought is to park that luggage at the next hotel as quickly as possible so that I can free myself for sightseeing within the vicinity, or leave the luggage at the hotel after I check out until I am ready to travel to the next location. I will need to send (quite a fair bit of) emails to the hotels to confirm on this prior to booking.
- I will attempt to minimize transit time between prefectures to no more than 2~3 hours a day to avoid having excessively long transport days (except the initial Tokyo Kagawa jump).
- Because of the long trip, I will also need to factor a bit of downtime at night for administrative stuff (e.g. catching up a little bit on work, laundry etc).
---------
Shikoku (~7 days) Specific thoughts while planning:
- I will need to exploit Limited Express trains as much as possible to minimize downtime between the 4 prefectures. Fortunately, for the most part these train frequencies are almost hourly, thus missing one train isnt too deadly consequence-wise.
- The transfer between Kochi and Ehime [Matsuyama] is oddly quicker via express bus as opposed to trains (!)
- For Kochi, my opinion is that it is best explored on car instead of public transport [it’s a really wide prefecture]; I feel that 1 day may not do it justice, but it is probably adequate for exploring the city centre as a whole.
- There's a fair bit of uncertainties while planning this leg so I would deeply appreciate any advice you may have.
- This current iteration is unable to weave in the Shikoku Mannaka Sennen Monogatari sightseeing train [四国まんなか千年ものがたり] ; if you people think its something not to be missed do let me know and I will reshuffle my timetable as such.
Day 0: Tokyo Kagawa (Sunrise Seto) [Saturday, 11 Nov]
- Touch down at Narita at 1720hours
- Transfer to Tokyo Station via NEX or Skyliner
- Settle administrative matters at the Midori-no-Maruguchi (e.g. get all the booked tickets etc from JR Pass, for Shinkansen and all other sightseeing trains) at Tokyo Station.
- IF Sunrise Seto ticket is obtained via the JR West portal booking, chill till 2200 and take Sunrise Seto to reach Kagawa (Takamatsu) at 0700 the next day. Try to snag the ticket online (likely via the japanese portal since there's no option to buy Solo Deluxe through the english/international website. Otherwise, compromise and go for Single)
- IF Sunrise Seto ticket is NOT obtained, proceed to take the furthest possible Shinkansen westwards (probably Okayama) and rest for the night.
Day 1: Kagawa (Takamatsu) [Sunday, 12 Nov]
- Chill around Takamatsu. Drop luggage at coin locker OR the hotel (near JR Takamatsu ideally)
- Look at whats left of Takamatsu Castle en route to the port.
- Day trip to Naoshima or Teshima to visit the art museums (Chichu Art Museum, Lee Ufan Museum etc).
- Ritsuin Garden in the evening (closes 1830)
- Find an eatery with Sanuki Udon for dinner if possible.
Day 2: Kagawa (Kotohira) Tokushima (Iya Valley) [Monday, 13 Nov]
- Morning trip from Takamatsu to Kotohira (either via JR or Kotoden). Visit Kotohiragu [includes inner shrine] and Kanamaruza Theater
- Return to Kotohira to pick up luggage, transit to Oboke via Limited Express Shimanto [Takamatsu Tadotsu Oboke]
- Retire at a local hotel around Oboke. If time permits, take the chance to explore around Oboke Gorge itself.
Day 3: Tokushima (Iya Valley) [Tuesday, 14 Nov]
[Post-research note: I realized that there is NO public transport to Mount Tsurugi on a weekday. I will have to rent a taxi direct to Mount Tsurugi, make the 'climb', then thereafter take the taxi down to the other attractions. I am inclined to just go full hog on the private taxi and rent it (almost the whole day, probably 7~8 hours for 4300yen/hour) to save the trouble. Otherwise, I will need to hike downhill which can be rather rough since its just a single lane road (looking at nearly 10++ km) so I think it wise not to penny pinch in the interest of both time and safety.] Spend the day at Iya Valley.
- Take a taxi after breakfast to zip to Mount Tsurugi and speedrun it to the mountain peak (aka using the chairlift to speedrun a good chunk of the mountain) about 2.5 hours ~ 3 hours as per the Iya Valley guide
- Taxi from Mount Tsurugi chairlift down to Oku-Iya Niju Kazuraashi and cross it (~1 hour estimate)
- Taxi down to visit the mannequins/scarecrows at Nagoro Village (~3km downhill from Oku-Iya). (~1 hour estimate)
- Check out the Peeing Boy Statue (~0.5 hour estimate [its just looking at the statue that is overlooking the entire gorge is it not?])
- Cross the outer vine bridge Iya-no-Kazurabashi (~1 hour estimate)
- Taxi back to Oboke, and retire for the day (~0.5 hour estimate, thus looking at about ~8 hours taxi rental total, with some leeway for lunch break)
Day 4: Tokushima (Iya Valley) Kochi (Kochi) [Wednesday, 15 Nov]
- Transit from Iya Valley [Oboke] to Kochi via Limited Express Shimanto (again) after breakfast. (~1 hour transit)
- Park luggage at hotel [ideally near JR Kochi Station], then proceed to mill around Kochi, visiting places such as Kochi Castle [高知城] and Harimaya Bridge[はりまや橋]
- Transit to Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum [高知県立坂本龍馬記念館] via local bus which is also near Katsumatsura Beach incidentally. Chill at Katsumatsura Beach in the evening
- Return to JR Kochi, dinnesupper at Hirome Market (ideally to try out Kochi's speciality seared bonito). [is visiting the market more preferable during lunch OR dinner?]
Day 5: Kochi (Kochi) Ehime (Imabari) [Thursday, 16 Nov]
- Complete any remaining items in Kochi in the morning, then transit to Imabari via train (Kochi Tadotsu Imabari), via Limited Express Shimanto (yet again!) and Ishidzuchi**[TBC: this might be better done via highway bus instead which is faster at ~2-3 hours]**
- Drop luggage at Imabari for the next 2 days, either at Sunrise Itoyama OR Cycle no Ie. [both are well positioned for the Shimanami Kaido, and are also one of the selected hotels eligible for the Sagawa luggage transfer.] Ideally done just around lunch time, so that there's still the better half of the day to explore Imabari.
- Spend the remainder of the day visiting Imabari Castle (closes 1700) and Towel Museum (slightly out of the way) (closes 1800) [TBC: I note this place is quite out of the way from Imabari itself, even the JP website suggests taking a taxi (!) there from the nearby train station. Might have to drop this).
- Attempt to try some Ehime-related food specialties e.g. Taimeshi (Sea Bream), Ehime oranges, Champon for the next 2 days
Day 6: Ehime (Matsuyama / Imabari) [Friday, 17 Nov]
- Take the Limited express train Ishidzuchi to Matsuyama day tripping. (~1h one-way).
- Explore Matsuyama Castle, and the nearby Matsuyama Ropeway Shopping Street
- Visit Shiki Memorial Museum
- Visit Dogo Onsen [and attempt to soak in the waters if possible].
- Also consider looking at Ishiteji (石手寺) beside Dogo Onsen.
- Bonus: Subject to train schedule, if possible, attempt to secure tickets for the Iyonada Sightseeing Train (伊予灘物語), Futami leg [双海ふたみ 編] , and also visit JR Shimonada Station (JR下灘駅) at the same time.
- Bonus: visit Yawatahama Port where the movie Suzume took reference from,
- Return to Imabari via the same Limited express Ishidzuchi and retire for the night.
Day 7: Ehime (Imabari) Hiroshima (Shinamani Kaido) [Saturday, 18 Nov]
I am of the opinion that 1 day in Shimanami Kaido is adequate if I attempt just the main route which is about 80km [as a test run, I did 70km and finished it within 6-7 hours with lunch breaks included]. For now I will plan for two full days, however should I truncate it down to one day later, I will add an extra day to either explore Matsuyama or Okayama.
- Start off at Sunrise Itoyama [watch the sunrise, have breakfast here, cafeteria opens at 0700, rental opens at 0800] OR Cycle no Ie. Do paperwork to send luggage over to the next accomodation via Sagawa.
- I will (probably) follow the recommended 'extended' route on Cycle no Ie's website and do the following:
- Take the west coast for Oshima (~13km) and cross to Hakatajima, with possible stop on:
- Mount Kiro Observatory Point [I am aware that there's a steep incline so this would be contingent on my physical/mental status by then].
- Nagahama Beach
- Take the coastal route for Hakatajima (~17km) and cross to Omishima and enjoy the coastal scenery
- Take the coastal route (again) for Omishima (~41km) (or lesser depending on how I'm feeling at that point) , with possible stop on:
- -TBC: Okunoshima (there is apparently a ferry route to the well-known rabbit island via Omishima port. Not sure if anyone else have tried this particular route and if this is a better approach than going through Tadano-umi (though I would acknowledge that there's historical stuff to visit in nearby Takehara), and I would not be able to buy rabbit food in advance).[Based on Google Earth estimate, its about 3km for the entire island loop - seems doable within 2 hours to tour the poison gas museum with a bike and pet some rabbits).
- Oyamazumi Shrine Treasure Museum
- End the day at WAKKA (Omishima) OR Guesthouse NEST / Soil Setoda (Ikuchijima) just beside Kousanji / The Hill of Hope (closes 1700). If possible, visit before closing, otherwise defer to next day.
- Try the ice cream at Dolce at Ikuchijima if possible.
- Bonus: if for some reason I am still ahead of time at this juncture (<1500), proceed to finish Innoshima and Mukaishima, then take a ferry to backtrack to Wakka/Soil Setoda or cycle back (last boat is ~1700) and rest; however, the next day I will zip straight to Onomichi via ferry after breakfast.
--------
Hiroshima + Yamaguchi (~4 days) Specific thoughts while planning:
- Onomichi is a pretty good base to jump to Okayama to explore Okayama, Kurashiki or Tomonoura with the Shinkansen accessibility, but it is impossible to cover them all within a single day. If I finish the Shimanami Kaido within a single day or finish it early on the second day, I will have that extra time to visit those.
- There's another sightseeing train etSETOra from Onomichi to Hiroshima but it only operates on Monday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday. For now the schedule could fit the train timetable pretty nicely.
- Would anyone suggest visiting Miyajima in the morning or in the evening? This would help me determine the order for the Kintaikyo Bridge/Miyajima day trip. Watching the sunset at either destination is pretty good in my books.
Day 8: Hiroshima (Shinamani Kaido Onomichi) [Sunday, 19 Nov]
- Continue from Ikuchijima towards Innoshima and Mukaishima (~18km) via the western coast route after breakfast, with possible stops on the following areas:
- Innoshima: Innoshima Flower Centre, Shimanami Beach [open to more suggestions]
- Mukaishima : there seems to be a lot of brunch places like Willows Nursery etc, soak the view at Mukaishima Rest Park [TBC: open to more suggestions]
Ideally reach Onomichi just around lunch or earlier. Chill for the rest of the day, and if I'm still up for it, explore Onomichi, including but not limited to:
- Exploring the cat alley
- Visit the exhibits at Onomichi City Museum of Art
- Consider walking to Senkoji and Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street
- Look into trying Onomichi-style ramen.
Retire at a guesthouse/hotel near JR Onomichi that I have forwarded the luggage to.
Day 9: Hiroshima (Onomichi, Takehara+Kure OR Tomonoura OR Okayama) Downtown Hiroshima) [Monday, 20 Nov]
- Mill around Onomichi in the morning (if not done yesterday), with a side trip to EITHER Takehara/Kure OR Okayama/Kurashiki OR Tomonoura (choose one):
- Takehara: stroll along the historical townscape [and look if they have any Tamayura-related merch], Okunoshima (if not done during the Shimanami Kaido leg / Kure: look into trying Kure curry/Niku-jaga and visit the Yamato Museum
- Okayama: Okayama Castle (zip via Shinkansen) / Kurashiki : Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter
- Tomonoura: stroll along the townscape during the day (zip via Shinkansen, transfer to local bus)
- Return to Onomichi (no later than 1400), board the etSETOra sightseeing train at 1437, and zip to Hiroshima. Enjoy the sunset along the coastline.
- Retire for the night at Hiroshima proper, probably near JR Hiroshima OR the bus terminal. If time permits, take a gander along the streets and see what takes me from there.
Day 10: Hiroshima (Downtown Hiroshima) [Tuesday, 21 Nov]
Spend the day surveying Hiroshima proper.
- Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園) and Atomic Bomb Dome
- Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims (国立広島原爆死没者追悼平和祈念館)
- Hiroshima Castle
- Orizuru Tower (おりづるタワー)
- Shukkeien (縮景園)
- Optional: Mazda Museum / Kure (if not done the previous day)
- Try to source for Hiroshima-specific food: Okonomiyaki, Dandan Noodles
Day 11: Hiroshima (with a day trip to Yamaguchi) [Wednesday, 22 Nov]
- Daytrip to Yamaguchi [Shin-Iwakuni] to visit Kintaikyo Bridge via Shinkansen. Also stop by the nearby Iwakuni Castle.
- Try Tonosama Sushi at Iwakuni if possible.
- Take the local train back to Miyajimaguchi and take the boat to Itsukushima.Take the time to stroll around the island and perhaps watch the sunset at the torii gate.
- Exit back to Hiroshima via boat to Hiroshima Port direct, and transit back to hotel.
--------
Shimane + Tottori (4 days) Specific thoughts while planning:
- Matsue becomes the main jump point for Shimane just because of the subsidized highway bus from Hiroshima, and ease of access towards Tottori later. There's no direct train between Hiroshima and Izumo/Matsue (!).
- Tottori is really wide size-wise, to the point that it feels more efficient to have two separate hotels in two nights (Kurayoshi/Misasa Onsen + downtown Tottori) rather than one hotel for two nights (i.e. downtown Tottori). Could be just me making excuses to get into an onsen ryokan however.
- Is there anything interesting at Yonago (Tottori) that I should take note of? Based on my initial survey nothing in particular pops up (other than the Tottori Prefectural Flower Park).
- Skipping Tottori Castle since it doesn’t seem to be interesting at first glance. Any other interesting things to at Tottori downtown (or nearby)?
Day 12: Hiroshima Shimane (Matsue) [Thursday, 23 Nov]
- Make good use of the 500yen highway bus from Hiroshima to Matsue. (3.5 hours transit). Fortunately the frequency is not too bad (7-8 buses per day, looking at 0800 departure or later); if there are still outstanding places to visit in Hiroshima I will visit them in the morning.
- Check in at a hotel near JR Matsue, and proceed to trawl around Matsue with whatever daylight is left. (TBC: am considering taking a few stops down to Tamatsukuri Onsen 玉造温泉 or Matsue-shinjoko Onsen instead of the typical hotel. Does anyone have any positive experiences there?)
- Attempt to spend the afternoon at the Adachi Museum of Art. Local train to Yasugi, transfer to free shuttle.
- Chill off in downtown Matsue for the night. Prowl for Shimane-specific food such as Naniwa Zushi (浪花寿司), Shijimi clams (しじみ), Izumo soba, Izumo Zenzai (出雲ぜんざい).
- Bonus: visit the Tottori Prefectural Flower Park for the winter Hanakairo Flower Illumination at Yonago at night [which is just beside Matsue. Free shuttle bus at Yonago bus terminal].
Day 13: Shimane (Izumo / Matsue) [Friday, 24 Nov]
- Day trip from Matsue to Izumo. (JR Matsue JR Izumo, swap to Ichibata local rail to Izumotaisha-mae)
- Take a stop at Izumo Taisha, as well as the nearby Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo (島根県立古代出雲歴史博物館)
- After lunch, return to JR Matsue and proceed to Yushien Garden (由志園) via bus. Enjoy the sunset over the garden.
- Stop by Matsue Castle on the way back.
Day 14: Shimane (Matsue) Tottori (Kurayoshi) [Saturday, 25 Nov]
- Transfer from Matsue to Kurayoshi in the morning via Super Matsukaze Limited Express (~1h).
- Settle down luggage at Misasa Onsen, then proceed to hike up Mitokusan Sanbutsuji Temple (三仏寺). Cater extra time just in case I have to wait for another fellow to pop up to climb in pairs. Estimated climb time excluding wait is about 2-3 hours both ways?
- Excess time to be spent sauntering Misasa Onsen and its nearby area such as the Nijisseiki Pear Museum [二十世紀梨記念館(なしっこ館)] and Kurayoshi Historical Quarter.
- Retire at Misasa Onsen for the night. Bonus: watch the constellations at night at Misasa Onsen on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 2100JST. Current plan does not fall within those 3 weekdays
- Bonus: take a short detour to Conan Town (postnote: not a big fan of the show).
Day 15: Tottori (Kurayoshi Tottori) [Sunday, 26 Nov]
- Transfer from Kurayoshi to Tottori (~35minutes transfer) in the morning, and proceed to tour around Tottori.
- Drop luggage, take a local bus to Tottori Sand Dunes, and visit the nearby Sand Museum.
- Transfer northwards to Uradome Coast via local bus and spend the remainder of the day there. Watch the sunset over the coast.
- Return to downtown Tottori, stroll around and call it a night.
-----------
Hyogo, Kyoto, Osaka , Nara, Mie (10 days) Specific thoughts while planning:
- Kinosaki Onsen is intentionally designed to be a slow-paced leg to recover [and also to make time to enjoy the onsens].
- The limited express train between Kinosaki Onsen and Osaka stops by Himeji thus I thought of resting a night there instead of doing day trips via Osaka.
- Osaka itinerary does look sparse but that is in large part because I have already visited most of them in the past. Nevertheless, I would like to experience how different it is in autumn compared to summer [based on those few destinations that I loved going previously].
- I have kept one float day to decompress, OR shift to any of the other prefectures (TBC).
- There are (multiple) special limited express train by Kintetsu; they're not covered by JR pass but nevertheless I would love to ride on those as an experience. The Kintetsu pass covers the basic fare only but based on my preliminary cost estimate, it is still worth getting it.
- Is it feasible to compress Himeji and Kobe to a single day?
- The itineraries for Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Mie are flexible since they're literally beside one another - makes it particularly easy to shift around base on ground situation.
Day 16: Tottori (Tottori) Hyogo (Kinosaki Onsen) [Monday, 27 Nov]
- Settle any outstanding sightseeing spots in the morning if required in Tottori, then transfer to Kinosaki Onsen via the Sanin Line.
- Make a pitstop at Amarube ('Sky Station') and marvel at the engineering work.
- Deposit luggage at the ryokan (or put in the coin locker), and stroll around and enjoy Kinosaki Onsen [after all its an onsen town].
- Try to hit as many of the 7 external onsens that are usable. Retire for the night here.
- Optional: go up the ropeway and oversee Kinosaki Onsen in the evening (last ride up ~1630)
- Optional: take a short hike up to Onsenji Temple.
Day 17: Hyogo (Kinosaki Onsen + Northern Kyoto (Amanohashidate) day trip) [Tuesday, 28 Nov]
- Optional: take a (very) early start to the day to Takeda Castle Ruins and witness the 'floating castle' effect in the morning (<0800).
- Day trip to Amanohashidate via ToyookaKyotango Railway. Do the funny bend-down pose on the bench at Amanohashidate View Land, and see how it feels like looking at the world inverted.
- Cross the sandbar and look from the other side (Nariaiji Temple / Kasamatsu Park)
- Select one of three additional side-trips:
- EITHER take a local bus up to Ine to look at the Funaya + sightseeing boat,
- OR local rail down to Maizuru to look at the Maizuru World Brick Museum + eat at the Michi-no-eki;
- OR reverse to Toyooka spend time in the city itself e.g. Izushi Castle Town
- Return to Kinosaki Onsen, and continue experiencing the remainder of the onsens. Retire for the night here. Optional: ride the Aomatsu sightseeing train back to Toyooka.
- Optional: Take a trip to Ankokuji Temple (安国寺) in the evening. Likely to visit post-peak autumn which means less than ideal viewing conditions.
Day 18: Hyogo (Kinosaki Onsen Himeji) [Wednesday, 29 Nov]
- Transit from Kinosaki Onsen to Himeji via Limited Express Hamakaze (~2 hours).
- Deposit luggage at the hotel or the coin lockers at the station, then proceed for sightseeing.

- Optional : Stroll along Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History and/or Himeji City Museum of Art which is beside the castle, OR Shosha Handicraft Museum which is just at the foot of Mount Shosha
- Optional: Make a detour to the Japan Toy Museum near Koro station (~30 minutes from JR Himeji). Closes 1700.
- Look for Hyogo-specific food: Kobe beef, steamed pork buns, sobameshi, himeji oden, etc
Retire at Himeji for the night.
Day 19: Hyogo (Himeji Kobe) Osaka (Dotonburi) [Thursday, 30 Nov]
Day trip to Kobe, before continuing further down to Osaka.
- Check out from Himeji, transit further down to Kobe for another stop before Osaka. Place luggage at the holding facility within the Shinkansen station.
- Take a visit to the Earthquake Memorial Museum (人と防災未来センター) to look at the devastation wrought by the 1995 earthquake.
- Stroll along Kobe Harborland (神戸ハーバーランド) and Meriken Park (メリケンパーク) , look at the Kobe Tower since its closed till 2024 for renovation, and look at the damage caused by the earthquake
- Optional: Head westwards to Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art.

Day 21: Osaka (Nara day trip) [Saturday, 2 Dec]
Spend a day in Nara.
- Zoom from Namba to Nara via Kintetsu (note: non-JR)
- Explore Todaiji Temple, Kokufuji Temple, Isuien Garden and Kasuga Taisha.
- Optional: pass by Naramachi (奈良町) on the way back.
- Take the Kintetsu line down to Mount Yoshino. [TBC: subject to whether I am too early or late for the koyo.Based on last year's prediction I am about 1-2 weeks too late. Might swap this out to a Uji day trip instead in Kyoto.). Spend time walking around the Shimo Senbon and Naka Senbon and experience the autumn.
- Transfer back to Osaka. Bonus: take the Blue Symphony back to Osaka instead of the typical train. (non-JR)
Day 22: Osaka (Mie day trip) [Sunday, 3 Dec]

- Take the returning Shimakaze Limited Express train back to Osaka (note: only one train at 1630; if this train is missed, change to normal express trains). (non-JR)
- Retreat back to Osaka for the night. Consider doing any other night activities in Osaka if time, and body permits.
Day 23: Osaka ('north' Kyoto day trip) [Monday, 4 Dec]
(north) Kyoto day trip.
- Take a stop at the Kyoto Railway Museum. Optional: also consider heading to To-ji Gojunoto first if I reach Kyoto way early before 10am.
- Walk back to Kyoto station, and take a bus northwards to Kyoto Manga Museum.
- Hop on the bus direct from the Manga Museum to Kinkakuji. [bus 15]
- Select one of two side-trips:
- EITHER head westwards to Arashiyama (note: already visited once in the summer but I still think it nice to visit in autumn/winter this time round). Bonus: experience sunset along the Togetsukyo Bridge.
- OR head eastwards to Higashiyama (closes 1700), Philosopher's path etc (did not visit these in my past trip here so there's the 'new' factor, but it is going to be a physically taxing day. Also, most likely will reach here nearing evening i.e. closing time thus there's a limit to how much I can visit realistically).
Whichever choice, return back to Osaka for the night. Look out for Kyoto-specific food such as Yudofu, Saba Sushi, Warabi Mochi, Nishin Soba (にしんそば) etc.
Day 24: Osaka ('south' Kyoto day trip) [Tuesday, 5 Dec]

Head back to Osaka and retire for the night. Consider doing any other night activities in Osaka if time, and body permits.
Day 25: Osaka (wildcard) [Wednesday, 6 Dec]
Spare day to do whatever I feel like doing OR reallocate this to another prefecture.
Intentionally left blank for later planning -------------
Kanazawa, Gifu+ (4 days) Specific thoughts while planning:
- Is it likely for the skiing season to open around 9~10 December at Shiga Kogen or Nozawa Onsen? Would very much like to try skiing for fun, but am uncertain if the snow condition would be satisfactory by then. Some of the skiing website indicates that these two destinations are usually the first to open. I would like to seek advise on this if possible [never skiied before].
- As an additional question to point 1, is 2 days adequate just to get a flavor on skiing?
- Kanazawa is a pretty solid jump point to Shirakawago/Takayama via express buses (~1 to 2 hour one way).
- My initial planning considered going to Kurobe Gorge (Toyama) but apparently the railways are closed from December onwards. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
- Another sightseeing train in Kanazawa that I can fit in nicely in my current plans (花嫁のれん), runs on Mon/Fri/Sat/Sun.
Day 26: Osaka Ishikawa (Kanazawa (Kanazawa cityside)) [Thursday, 7 Dec]
- Zip from Osaka to Kanazawa via Limited Express Thunderbird in the early morning (~3hours; ideally the 0740 or 0810 service). Drop luggage at the hotel near JR Kanazawa and explore the cityside.
- Have lunch at the Omicho Market (近江町市場), OR at Higashi Chaya District.
- Stroll around Kanazawa Castle (金沢城, Kanazawajō) and the nearby Kenrokuen (兼六園) / Seisonkaku Villa (成巽閣, Seisonkaku) .
- Consider visiting one or more of the nearby museums if possible:
- D.T. Suzuki Museum OR
- National Crafts Museum OR
- 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art
- Optional: Head southwards to Myoryuji Temple + Nishi Chaya District.
- Optional: Head northwards to Higashi Chaya District (if not done for lunch).
Any outstanding spots not completed today, to be rolled over to the next 2 days (if possible).
- Retire in Kanazawa for the night. Be on the lookout for Kanazawa-specific food: Gold-leaf ice cream, oden, hanton rice
- Optional: have a stay at Yuwaku Onsen for at least one night for anime-related reasons. (Hanasaku Iroha)
Day 27: Ishikawa (Kanazawa cityside) / Gifu (Shirakawago, Takayama) [Friday, 8 Dec]
- Day trip to Shiwakawago and Takayama via Nohi bus (non-JR, ~1h). Grab the morning bus express bus to Shirakawago and explore the place in the morning. Experience early snowfall (?) there. Optional: visit Ainokura on the way towards Shirakawago.
- Take another express bus down to Takayama for lunch (~1h travel time).
- Explore what Takayama has to offer. Stroll along the old town near the bus terminal and visit the Takayama Jinya. If time permits, stroll along the Higashiyama Walking Course.

- Return to Kanazawa via Hida Limited Express to Toyama Shinkansen to Kanazawa, OR take the same Nohi express bus directly back (non-JR).
- Retire at Kanazawa for the night. Last express bus from Takayama to Kanazawa is 1630, arrive at 1845. Alternatively, head northwards to Toyama via JR and transfer to Kanazawa.
Day 28: Ishikawa (Kanazawa cityside / outskirts) [Saturday, 9 Dec]
Side trip to Wakura Onsen / Nanao for anime-related sightseeing. (
Insomanics after Class, Hanasaku Iroha)
- Zoom from Kanazawa up to Wakura Onsen/Nanao via Limited Express Noto Kagaribi. Do some sightseeing related to Insomanics after Class and Hanasaku Iroha.
- Do some train spotting with two anime along the Noto Railways. Stop at Nishigishi station for some sightseeing. (non-JR)
- Return to Kanazawa in the evening from Wakura Onsen via the sightseeing train Hanayomenoren [花嫁のれん, last train 1630).
- End the night at Kanazawa.
Day 29: Ishikawa (wildcard) [Sunday, 10 Dec]
Spare day to do whatever I feel like doing OR reallocate this to another prefecture.
Intentionally left blank for later planning --------------
Tokyo (~6 days) Specific thoughts while planning:
- Specific interest to target: anime/vtuber stuff, music (piano in particular), bookstores etc.
- This is the point in time I should go ham on souvenier purchase if I have not done so. I'll probably get an extra cardboard box or duffel bag to lug with me to the airport to store extra stuff.
- Would like to seek recommendation on where I should set my base for the 5~6 days here. For now I am planning to pit at Ginza, subject to availability and cost. My thought is that as long as its along the Yamanote line everything rolls I suppose.
- Hard pass on Golden Gai on the Shunjuku leg (I do not drink).
- There's way too many to list in terms of what I would like to do in Tokyo, but I have listed items that are of particular interest to me first within the available time frame. If you have strong opinions on specific locations do let me know.
Day 30: Ishikawa (Kanazawa) Tokyo (Ginza) [Monday, 11 Dec]
- Zip from Kanazawa to Tokyo via the Hoririku Shinkansen in the morning (just north of two hours). (TBC : If I can optimize my schedule better, I can try squeezing two days here for a stop at Nozawa Onsen / Shiga Kogen (Nagano) for a short ski experience).
- Deposit luggage at one of the Ginza hotels (TBC: subject to cost; might swap for another location later on)
- Explore ('south') Tokyo with the remainder of the day.
- Marvel at the architecture that is the Tokyo Station and its surrounding.
- Visit the Imperial Palace.
- Head south towards the Mori Art Museum (closes 2200)
- End the night with a stop at Tokyo Tower (closes 2230).
Day 31: Tokyo (Shibuya, Shinjuku and Nakano) [Tuesday, 12 Dec]
Explore ('west') Tokyo, namely Shibuya, Shinjuku and Nakano.
- Start off with an early day visit to Meji Shrine / Yoyogi Park.
- Head up to Shinjuku. Spend the remainder of the morning and lunch exploring Kabukicho, Hanazono Shrine and Omoide Yokochō (ideally have lunch here). Also make a pit stop at Kinokuniya's flagship store at Shinjuku.
- Head northwards to Nakano Broadway and trawl for anime goods for several hours (closes ~1900)
- Head south down back to Shibuya and experience the crossing in peak night condition. Walk around and soak in the atmosphere. Optional: stop by the Ishibashi music store at Shibuya (closes 2000).
- Cap off the night and look at the night view at Shibuya Sky (closes 2230). Zip back to the hotel at Ginza.
Day 32: Tokyo (Akibahara, Asakusa and Sky Tree) [Wednesday, 13 Dec]
- Kick off the day with a morning visit to Asakusa (i.e. Sensoji).
- Transit over to Tokyo Skytree to watch the Tokyo cityscape in the day.
- Trawl around Akibahara for the afternoon. (Animate, Sega claw machines, etc).
- Also stop by Ochanomizu for sightseeing (Suzume no Tojimari)
- Zip back to the hotel for the night. If time permits, stop by the two flagship music stores along Ginza: Yamaha Ginza and Yamano Ginza. Also, visit Itoya Ginza (stationary store).
Day 33: Tokyo (Kamakura day trip OR Ikebukuro) [Thursday, 14 Dec]
EITHER take a day trip Kamakura, OR explore northern Tokyo (Ikebukuro)
Kamakura leg:
- Make a detour to Used Tyre Market Sagamihara Store to experience the retro vending machines. Then head southwards to Enoshima.
- Look at the giant Buddha statue and stroll along Hasedera.
- Take the Enoden to Enoshiima and explore the island.
- Take the JR back to Ginza and retire for the night.
Tokyo (Ikebukuro leg):
- Visit Otome Road for otaku related stuffs.
- Trawl the usual suspects such as Bic Camera etc.
- Make a stop at the Mejiro Gardens.
- Visit the Waseda International House of Literature (The Haruki Murakami Library) at Waseda University.
Day 34: Tokyo (wildcard) [Friday, 15 Dec]
Spare day to do whatever I feel like doing OR reallocate this to another prefecture.
Intentionally left blank for later planning
Day 35: Tokyo Home [Saturday, 16 Dec]
- Contemplate life at the hotel, doing whatever I feel like for the morning and early afternoon. Bonus: have an early breakfast at Tsukiji Market in the morning if staying at Ginza.
- Clear any last minute administrative matter (if any), or do (very) last minute sightseeing/buying. Most likely limited to Ginza and Akibahara.
- Get a nice lunch omakase to cap it off if possible. (taking recommendations if anyone has one, ideally meat/beef centric instead of just sushi).
- Head off to Narita from Tokyo Station via NEX just after lunch at 1430 1530 to Narita, flight at 1830.
END ---------------------
If you're still reading up to this point, here's my own personal ramblings/thoughts on JR pass usage:
I have thought of two ways of doing this for the first 21 days:
a. easy-mode : just get 21 days JR global pass before the price hike at 60450 yen, OR b. hard-mode: get a 7 day JR global pass (to cover the NEX fees, the basic fee on the Sunrise Seto to Shikoku, as well as limited express trains within Shikoku) (29650) + 5 days for JR Okayama Hiroshima Yamaguchi Area Pass (15000) + 4 days for JR Sanin Okayama Area Pass + 5 days for JR Kansai Wide Area Pass (10000) for a total of 59230.
The initial conclusion was to go with option A since that reduces the administrative burden, but I realized the individual passes do have its own perk which truimphs over the global JR pass. For instance, the Sanin Okayama Area Pass provides a (minor) discount for the Adachi Museum of Art; the Kansai Wide Pass covers the Kyotango route between Kinosaki Onsen and Amanohashidate which the global JR pass does not cover, JR Okayama Hiroshima Yamaguchi Area Pass covers JR buses within Hiroshima for free, therefore I am inclined to go with the hell option (option B) as it stands.
For the remaining 14 days, I could also get the global 14 day JR pass at 47250 yen but it is not worth it at all, because I will be relying largely on Kintetsu for the Osaka/Kyoto/Nara/Mie leg which the JR pass most certainly does not cover.
- For the Osaka/Nara/Mie/Kyoto leg, I intend to make good use of a mix of both local metro and the Kintetsu rail pass for 5 days (4900). If I do exploit Kintetsu's limited express train to its fullest, I should be able to save money by buying the pass. The Osaka Amazing Pass at 2600yen a day does not make financial sense for me this time round, given how little I am exploring within Osaka.
- For the Osaka Kanazawa, Shirakawago and Takayama leg, the preferred pass of choice is the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass over the global JR pass, in large part because this pass fully absorbs the Nohi highway bus fees (which can rack up quite a lot at ~8000yen for a return trip between Kanazawa and Shirakawago/Takayama). Also this absorbs the Thunderbird fee. One major issue with my current plan is that it does not cover Wakura Onsen nor the sightseeing train.
- For the final Kanazawa Tokyo leg, the preferred choice is the Horuriku Arch Pass that covers the direct Shinkansen back to Tokyo, and the NEX fees to Narita when I depart from Tokyo. Will only break even with the pass at best unless I make a stop at Nagano.
So all in all, there's quite little incentive to get the global JR pass after I worked out my schedule, apart from the initial 7 days for the Sunrise Seto jump which the All Shikoku Pass will not cover.
Through the hodge-podge of multiple area passes, it works out to around 102890 yen for the whole trip of 35 days, contrast with 107700 yen for a 21 + 14 global JR pass. While there's a minor cost saving doing the hard way which sweetens the deal, the additional minor perks associated with the area passes sells it for me, as I would had to pay more out of pocket to cover non-JR pass buses/rails and such which would add up to much greater cost than I would had anticipated. Also, if I did this trip post-price hike in October, the calculus becomes a no-brainer: avoid the global JR pass like the plague.

2023.06.09 12:18 Miserable-Tear-905 I can't get over my boyfriend going on one of my dream travel destinations without me
I was watching the lesbian Ultimatum (happy pride, go watch if you're gay it's super entertaining) and Lexi being unable to get over certain things in her relationship brought up these feelings in me. I think I just need to tell someone. This is kind of a complicated one with lots of backstory.
My boyfriend and I met in Taiwan as expats. When we met, I would be leaving in 9 months and he would continue staying there. We both knew these were the conditions of our relationship so we agreed to start dating and try to make the most of our time together before either going long distance or splitting up. An issue at the start of the relationship is that I felt there was 0 compromise on what he wanted to do vs. what I wanted to do. Every night was spent drinking with his friends and me tagging along, and if I said I was too tired he wouldn't stop begging until I went. Eventually I just gave up on fighting it because I was finding ways to have fun and I didn't want to spend our time together with negative emotions. As we moved further on in our relationship, he started being more receptive to trips as I mentioned there were a lot of places I really wanted to/liked traveling to. I even let him invite his friends. We didn't go often because he didn't want to spend the money on it, but instead spent the money drinking.
In the months after I moved away, he apologized to me repeatedly because he had reflected on the experience and realized he took advantage of the fact that I'm accommodating and easily adaptable (I'm an aiwater sign cusp lol). We started talking about if I were able to visit again, where would I want to go on a trip. I said Japan because I'm obsessed with Sushi, to the point where it's something everyone knows about me and I've taken tons of classes to know how to make it, I have a pinterest board dedicated to places to go to try it, etc. He said as part of his apology, when I come back to visit that we'll go to Japan since we could both easily get visas and the flight tickets would be cheap.
Months later, my family ended up wanting to visit family in China for holidays, so I finessed it so I would be able to go to Taiwan for some days then return back to China then head back home. Long story short, while many tense discussions were had about it, it was agreed that I would stay in Taiwan for some days and then spend some time with my close family but not my extended family. There was even a plan to travel together to Japan since my family also wanted to travel there, and so they could meet my boyfriend. On the day before, my mom called to scream at me about how tickets were too expensive (we had agreed on the budget before we even left for China) and how I'm selfish for "orchestrating" all this. It all deeply upset me, and my boyfriend promised we would just make an even better time of our trip to compensate. But then the next day, he woke up late and tired so we had to push back the trip. Then again the next day, then the next day. He stayed up playing video games.
I let it go because I was just happy to see him and I was more upset with my mom, and I knew he was having a hard time. Fast forward another couple of months and he had spent several weeks in a row complaining about how exhausted he is at work and how he just wants a weekend in for himself. He was looking forward to it even. Then all of a sudden Friday right after work he disappeared for a couple hours and then texted me "lol I guess I'm in Japan now". Then he started texting me pictures but then complaining about how boring it was and how he couldn't even enjoy it because he went with some drunk guys from work. Something in me just went stone cold.
I told him that it profoundly hurt me and I felt like I wasn't a priority to him. That when we were on vacation and had a once in who knows how many years opportunity, he was content just sitting at home and once again how I felt didn't matter. He could be spontaneous even when it wasn't his preference for his "buddies", but he was content to disappoint me. He was content to break a promise to me. It made me feel like I didn't matter aside from my body and how I emotionally support him. It's been a couple months and I still can't get over how deeply it hurt me. I don't even know if I can.

2023.06.09 11:56 Chilli944 Opening Commissions to Test The Waters A Bit
Now, I'm not a super big name in this community, but I am a musician, and I think I'm pretty good, and I wanna see just how good people actually think I am.
Now obviously cause this is my first time doing this, the prices are gonna be cheap, but also, this is just a test to see what people think, so they'll start at 5 per track (price will fluctuate if I think it's a complicated track, but I'll talk more about that to the person commissioning)
Now just for some general things before you consider: I'll need a decent reference to what you want the song to sound like I'm not a magician, so don't expect the track to be done at the snap of your fingers I have the right to refuse your commission (this probably won't happen, but it goes without saying) You can ask me for past references to songs I've written before. I just don't feel like putting them in this post No refunds obviously, so don't try. All payments will be upfront.

2023.06.09 11:45 NoHayNoticias Innolux AT070TN83 V1 40-pin TFT panels to Raspi via PIC?
I found a handful 7" TFT panels among electronics scrap. The panels are good and in working condition. These are cheap mass produced tft panels
Datasheet
https://datasheetspdf.com/datasheet/AT070TN83-V1.html By doing a google search for the part number and restricting results to Github, I found only one reference
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/mastearch/arm/boot/dts/omap4-var-dvk-om44.dts This is a commit from 2019
Apparently this is part of display init code for some single board computer evaluation kit
https://www.variscite.com/product/evaluation-kits/var-som-om44-kits/ Since the above code is Linux, would it be possible to have these pannels connected to a Raspberry pi zero directly over gpio? These panels use a 40pin cable.
I'm not looking for xorg drivers, just being able to "send" a bitmap over the wires from bash or the command line would be enough for me.
Or would you use a pic, then interface over gpio?
In case you haven't figured by now, I'm way over my head. Perhaps I should hire a real programmer to work this out for me. I only know python and bash.
But the main question is do you think driving this from a pic is feasible? Even if slowly... Then talk over i2C to the raspi zero?
Thanks NH

2023.06.09 10:40 CChajk Should I go back to the doctor?
Age: 31F
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 140lbs
About 4 weeks ago, I developed this neck pain in the back of my neck, around the hairline. It’s very painful and some days very difficult to even rotate my neck. My neck feels tight as well but I assume it’s from the tension of the pain. It radiates from the spot causing headaches, primarily triggered in the back of my head. Tender to the touch, almost about where the occipital glad would be, about the bottom of my skull.
I can rotate my head with pain but the rotation is limited to a degree. Looking up is the least painful, turning left or right requires shoulder movement if I go beyond about 45*, looking down is extremely painful at first but after a few seconds it tones down.
First 2 weeks:
I tried many methods to alleviate this pain: - Changed out 4 pillows, including changing out for the couch pillow and then no pillow (which made it hurt more) - Slept on alternating sides, stomach and back - Slept on the couch - Applied stretching/yoga practices, including PT for my shoulders/neck/jaw - Ice Pack - Heating Pad - Combination of the two alternating - Drank more water, lemon water, cranberry juice, apple juice (hoping to try and flush out my system or whatever - Changed my diet to include more dark greens and added milk/nuts to my diet - Meditation - Hot/Cold Showers - Became more mindful of how I clean my teeth - took many different otc medicines: Allieve, Tylenol, Motrin, Flonase, Zyrtec, Musinex - Eye drops like Visine and an anti itch eye drop (was trying to “clear out” sinuses I guess?) - Muscle rub (really just help tone down the tension) - Hand massager - Physically rubbing/massaging it
Most of them helped a little bit but wasn’t affective.
Other symptoms: - ear pain in the right ear, even a sense of fullness (which was checked by an audiologist and clears of any noticeable fluids or blockage) ear was healthy - slight jaw pain (probably from the neck pain) - small, minor rash on the hairline and somewhat higher, which became itchy later on - pain in between my shoulder blades (probably because of stress) - neck stiffness
Prior to the end of the third week:
I went to a walk in/urgent care clinic and was seen by a nurse practitioner. She did a basic examination and touched my neck/checked for heat. To my knowledge the rash doesn’t have any noticeably raised bumps and is quite light in colour. She checked my ears and saw no issues. She checked my mouth and noticed my tonsils seemed a little inflamed/swollen.
She prescribed me with 4 medications: - Meloxicam 7.5 mg (helps but temporary) - Cyclobenzaprine 10 mg (helps but temporary) - Methylprednisolone 4 mg for 6 days (idk if it helped but it taste awful, lol) - Ketoconazole-hydrocortisone (which I didn’t pick up yet because my insurance doesn’t cover it and I don’t get paid until June 9); tried to substitute it for a hydrocortisone cream otc, itch relief cream and a triple antibiotic cream, allowing each one a few days to “work”
Current medications/otc: - Metformin HCL 500mg (for PCOS) - Norgestimate and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets - Biotin 1000 mcg - Super Vitamin B-Complex - Omega-3 Fish Oil 1000mcg
Recreational marijuana smoker Barely drink (1 wine glass about every two weeks, average) No other substances I’m fairly active (30minutes walks/day minimum)
I was exposed to Covid back on Mother’s Day but tested negative 3 times over a 72 hour window, 4 days from contact totaling, 7 days)
No recent tramas or new locations I visited other then the healthy center at the university. No new contacts either.
I’ve also been diagnosed with PCS but the latest concussion would have been about three years ago.

2023.06.09 09:29 PaulSwain MARVEL LEGENDS COLLECTORS/COMIC ART FANS...
Updating this with some edits as a fair few slots have been taken now...
It's obviously a hard time financially for everyone-
So I've been helping out comic fans, so they can get a bit of luxury and indulgence they might not be able to stretch to otherwise...
If you like original comic-style art, or know somebody who does that you want to spoil, or if you just want to flip some art as it's one of the few things to almost always appreciate:
If you have Marvel Legends figures you wanna offload because they no longer fit your collection, or you've changed them out for another version of the character, or you're getting out completely- And you'd just prefer something created specifically, exclusively for you:
I'll do you a commission in return for what I need. Professional, exclusive art, as cheap as it gets!
I'm looking to fill some gaps and offer some bargain work at the same time- So you help me, I help you! You offload what you don't want, I devote time and skill to you with something that's usually pretty unaffordable.
You've already paid for the figures you don't need, you'll have seen you're unlikely to make your costs back in a flooded secondary marketplace anymore; so now you can trade up and get original art instead but without paying original art prices or anything other than postage!
You pay the postage (figure to me, art to you), but your art is entirely paid for with toys you just don't want or need anymore.
So we're both protected, as a trade: The safest way to do this is always via PayPal 'goods and services'. We each pay the other the value of the deal (so the payments immediately cancel out each other), but we're both fully covered by PayPal if anything goes wrong then. No deal is guaranteed to be completely hassle-free, but this is at least risk-free and fully protected.
I post art fully tracked, so you'll always have confirmation and a method to follow it.
The figure you're trading doesn't need to be boxed at all, I don't collect 'in box', anyway (so postage is much, much cheaper) - Just need it complete, in good condition without defects/flaws, and with all it's accessories (excluding BAF pieces- don't need them).
I'll do you any comics character you like (just not movie/live-action depictions- likenesses take a lot longer so cost a lot more).
There are five options, all for much, much less than would ever be offered otherwise, with the lowest tiers at
incredible deals.
Tier one: Any
one figure from
list A = 1 x A5 bust (head, shoulders, some upper chest), black and white, no background detail
Tier two: Any
two figures from
list A = 1 x A4 half body (waist up), black and white, no background detail
Tier three: Any
three figures from
list A or any
one figure from
list B = 1 x A4 full body, black and white, no background detail
Tier four: Any
five figures from
list A or any
two figures from
list B = 1 x A4 full body, grey scale, basic background
Tier five: Any

three figures from
list B = 1 x A4 full body, colour washes, standard background

King Pin (white suit BAF) (2018) Obviously a lot of these have already been surpassed or superseded by later, better releases, and a few of them will be this year, too (according to the 'leak list' that's so far proven entirely accurate)- So obviously the value of lots of these is permanently dropping: I don't care, they still work for my collection, so my offers stand. Happy to take them off your hands, whether you're downsizing, eliminating unnecessary duplicates, changing up brands, or getting out of the game altogether.
This is a novelty option to turn your unwanted old stuff into a real, personal luxury.
This time I'm just concentrating on comic book figures- in future I'll offer a similar deal for MCU based figures (and, potentially, Black Series figures).
Hope this is multi-beneficial! Feel free to message me and we'll help each other out.
(If you don't know my work, you can see some via my profile here and some on my other socials, which are click-able from here.)
Cheers!

2023.06.09 09:13 ltlwsb63 2021 with JBL audio upgrade journey
I think I'm finally done with this stage of upgrading the JBL audio in my 2021 OR. I'm posting here in case it helps anyone out who is considering starting down this path.
tl;dr: The JBL audio package is frustratingly poor from the head unit's clumsy interface and lack of wireless CarPlay and AndroidAuto to the weird amp to the muddy speakers. I went through a number of iterations and ended up with something that maybe cost too much, but addresses a lot of these issues.
Parts list at the end.
What I wanted to address:
- Sound quality. Especially the harshness in the upper range and the muddiness in the mid and lower bass.
- Lack of Wireless CarPlay
What I wouldn't give up:
- 360 camera functionality including View button access.
- Camera/screen clarity.
- No floating/halo over-sized screens.
First try: Wireless CarPlay USB
I purchased and returned two different Wireless CarPlay USB adapters. I kept a third and used it for six months. These were all slow to connect -- 30-90 seconds -- and unreliable. Many times after waiting over two minutes for the connection, I would need to unplug/plug the USB adapter to reboot the thing.
Didn't try: Pro upgrade
I spoke to a local installer who suggested that anything short of pulling the JBL amp or adding post-JBL-amp DSP was going to fail. He suggested a price tag starting at about $3k and quickly heading toward $5k. Not in my price range.
Second try: Trail Grid Pro Sony XAV-AX6000 plug-n-play bundle
Kudos to the guys at Trail Grid Pro for putting this together. The wiring harness, Maestro pre-programming, and install videos were all great.
The Sony XAV-AX6000 is not great.
I paid $900 for this. It is now $768.
There was a very minor improvement in the sound quality. Probably based on the EQ that's available in the Sony and possibly on it just being a better head unit than the JBL (which is actually a Pioneer).
I returned it to Trail Grid Pro because the screen is awful. It's 800x600 and is significantly smaller than the JBL screen. The cameras were bordering on unusable.
Trail Grid Pro was easy with returns.
What I learned:
- The Meastro RR is capable of retaining camera and steering wheel control functionality.
- Screen quality is very important.
- The HU can effect sound quality in some way even without replacing the amp or speakers.
Third try: Audiofrog separates
I changed tactics and decided to get some speakers from Crutchfield.
I initially went with the Audiofrog G60S. Coming from Crutchfield it included both wiring and door adapters/mounts. These are 6.5" "woofers" and 1" tweeters.
I did this install with the included Audiofrog in-line crossovers.
These did not sound good. I think the combination of the in-line crossovers and the JBL amp's channel tuning just broke the signal to the speakers.
What I learned:
- Still no idea if Audiofrog is any good.
- Replacing the door speakers is not as scary as it first appears.
- The flush mount tweeter brackets sold by Crutchfield require a lot of modification to fit in the Tacoma dash.
- The JBL tweeters have a soldered on connector that you need to cut off and re-use because nobody sells/provides that connectoadapter.
- If people tell you that the JBL front door speakers are wired through your dash tweeters, they're wrong. At least for a 2021 w/ JBL.
- The 89db 4ohm speakers were still plenty loud with the stock HU and amp.
Fourth try: Low-end Focal coaxials
I kept these.
Front Door: ACX 690 3-way 6x9 coaxials
Dash: TWU 1.5
Back Door: ACX 165 2-way 6.5 coaxials
Ordered from Crutchfield with the install kit.
I know some folks hate on coaxials, but going from 6 drivers to 12 drivers, getting full range sound from the doors, and not having to mess with crossovers to do it, all worked for me in this application.
The sound quality was better, but I still wanted to try to get Wireless CarPlay and see if the Focals would benefit from more EQ and better quality in the HU.
What I learned:
- The plastic adapters to get the speakers in the doors were necessary. Even though the JBLs are 6x9 and 6.5, the threads on the door did not line up with the speaker mounting holes on the 6x9 and 6.5 Focals.
- I still like Focals. I've given them lots of money for speakers, and I enjoy all of them.
- Better SQ doesn't make the JBL HU any less annoying.
- If you try to put rubber or foam baffles or cups on the door speakers, you have to be very careful about window clearance. My fronts are currently un-baffled with adhesive weather stripping where the plastic speaker adapter meets the door. That seems to work for now.
Fifth try: Alpine iLX-507
I bought this from Crutchfield with the Maestro RR and install kit.
I paid about $885.
There is now a bundle from Trail Grid Pro for $867.
It's basically all the same stuff, but Trail Grid Pro will program your Maestro, connect the wires, and bundle things up neatly for you.
There's no way I'd pull my install and return it to Crutchfield for $18, but if I'd noticed the Alpine bundle was available from TGP when I ordered, I probably would have done that.
TGP may also have solutions for connecting the factory GPS and Satellite Radio antennas and for using the stock microphone. Crutchfield doesn't have those.
The only place Trail Grid Pro seemed worse than Crutchfield was with the mounting adapter. The TGP adapter on the Sony was cheap plastic and was cracked when I got it. They offered to send a replacement, but, at that point, I knew I was returning the Sony. The adapter bundled by Crutchfield is better.
The Alpine is a superior HU to the Sony.
What the Alpine gets right:
- It is a 720p screen. The physical screen is smaller than the JBL, but the clarity is much much better than either the JBL or Sony.
- Your Toyota cameras are better than you think they are. I was shocked at how much better the 360 and reverse camera look on the Alpine screen. The images are noticeably smaller, but you can actually see more of what's going on.
- The Alpine improved the SQ to a point that I can live with. There's still a sense that the JBL amp is under-performing and "doing things" to the signal that it shouldn't, but I actually enjoy listening to the Focals through the Alpine -- which is more than I can say for the either the JBL speakers or the JBL HU.
- Integrated Wireless CarPlay on the Sony and Alpine is far beyond what the USB adapters provide. Almost instant connection. Actually faster than connecting the JBL HU over a USB cable.
- The Alpine has dual USB on the rear. One of those can be connected to the Toyota USB using the Toyota adapter. I've got the other one tucked under the dash with a 256gb flash drive on it. It's full of FLAC that I can listen to if I don't want to use my phone, and it's relatively easy to pull out and update.
What's still not great:
- SQ is still not perfect. That JBL amp is doing its thing.
- Auto-source selection is fiddly. This seems to be a problem with CarPlay everywhere. Doing something like looking at a map in CarPlay while listening to the radio or USB source is harder than it should be. Spotify is the worst offender. Even quitting Spotify on the phone doesn't always get CarPlay and the HU to stop trying to use Spotify as its audio source.
- Wireless CarPlay would be nicer if the Wireless charging pad worked. Dammit Toyota.
- USB file browsing on the Alpine is sub-par. It's functional, but sort of 2005-esque.
General Thoughts:
- If you want to improve SQ and the usability of the HU, you can do OK for around $1500. Much less probably won't get you there, and great sound probably requires much more.
- Self-install is workable with install kits from either Crutchfield or Trail Grid Pro. Both companies are responsive and easy with returns. TGP likes to spam, and their unsubscribe seems broken. Other than that, no complaints for either company.
- There are good tools at the iDataLink Maestro site. You can find exactly what functions are available and supported for a given combination of vehicle, HU, Maestro module, and Maestro harness. iDataLink also responds to support requests over email.
Final Parts List:
Speakers. Crutchfield. $450 w/ install kits.
Front Door: ACX 690 3-way 6x9 coaxials
Dash: TWU 1.5
Back Door: ACX 165 2-way 6.5 coaxials
HU. Crutchfield. $885 w/ install kit including Maestro RR and Toyota and Alpine harnesses.
Also available as a kit from Trail Grid Pro for slightly less.

Phish, Tuesday 06/09/2009 (14 years ago) Asheville Civic Center, Asheville, NC, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 2009 Early Summer Tour
Set 1 : Kill Devil Falls , The Moma Dance , Sample in a Jar , Stash , Dog Faced Boy , Gumbo , Tube , Lengthwise , Divided Sky , When the Cactus is in Bloom 1 , Bold As Love
Set 2 : Backwards Down the Number Line > Ghost > Fast Enough for You , Halley's Comet > Maze , Alaska 1 , Theme From the Bottom , Golgi Apparatus , Possum
Encore : Loving Cup
1 Phish debut.
Jamchart Notes:
Backwards Down the Number Line - "Type I" version with great strumming by Trey and a short outro jam that > to "Ghost."
Show Notes:
This show featured the Phish debuts of When the Cactus is in Bloom and Alaska. Before Dog Faced Boy, Trey explained that while living with Fish, he wrote Dog Faced Boy, Tube and Gumbo based on entries in one of Fish's journals. During Dog Faced Boy, Fish left his drum kit and lay down in front of the stage because he didn't need to sing the song. Lengthwise (performed a cappella ) was played for the first time since July 28, 1998 (233 shows). Bold as Love was played for the first time since October 6, 2000 (74 shows).

Phish, Friday 06/09/2000 (23 years ago) On Air East, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, , Japan
Gap Chart, Tour: 2000 Summer Japan Tour
Set 1 : Axilla > Taste , Billy Breathes , Poor Heart > Golgi Apparatus > Funky Bitch , The Moma Dance > First Tube > Chalk Dust Torture
Set 2 : Tweezer , Bouncing Around the Room 1 , The Mango Song , The Squirming Coil > Gotta Jibboo > Meatstick 2 > Tweezer Reprise
Encore : You Enjoy Myself
1 Brief outro solo from Trey, which replaced the usual closing guitar lick. 2 First Meatstick to feature Japanese lyrics.
Jamchart Notes:
Funky Bitch - Atypically improvisational must-hear monster.
Chalk Dust Torture - Winning fans in Japan. This huge first-set-closing version raises hell and ends, but then there's a second ending that concludes cacophonously.
Tweezer - Atypically slow but monstrously improvisational version that has several peaks and valleys before speeding-up and concluding in a melodic, triumphant, must-fucking-hear manner.
The Mango Song - Ending jam segment stretches the limits of the basic jam with some nice rhythmic variation, but still stays "in bounds."
You Enjoy Myself - Deeeep, funky jam/groove, and the return of the B&D; segment!
Show Notes:
The Moma Dance included Funky Bitch teases and Tweezer included Funk #49 teases. This was the first ever Meatstick to feature Japanese lyrics and Trey flubbed the words while attempting to sing them. Bouncing included a brief outro solo from Trey, which replaced the usual closing guitar lick. This show was re- broadcast on Japanese television.

Set 2 : Split Open and Melt , The Wedge , Scent of a Mule , Cavern > David Bowie , Acoustic Army , Sweet Adeline , Slave to the Traffic Light
Encore : The Squirming Coil
Jamchart Notes:
Run Like an Antelope - Unusual jam. Sort of off-key. Sort of evil. Dissonant and anti-melodic. No real peak; it just fades into "Rocco."
Split Open and Melt - Improvisational playing in several sections tests the rhythmic and melodic standards for "SOAM" in this solid version.
Show Notes:
Part of the soundcheck's jam consisted of 25 or 6 to 4.

Set 2 : Split Open and Melt , Glide > Julius , Halley's Comet -> Scent of a Mule , Ginseng Sullivan 2 , Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove , Golgi Apparatus
Encore : Highway to Hell
1 Trey sang verses through megaphone. 2 Acoustic and without microphones. Fish on Madonna washboard.
Jamchart Notes:
It's Ice - Good rocking jam with excellent Fish and solid Trey (of course Page is great).
Mike's Song - The 1st jam is rocking and ass kicking, with a clever little "Tweeprise"-like walk up. The 2nd jam is basically a non-vocal version of something very "Simple"-like. Just listen and you'll hear it. The return to "Mike's" has more crazed '94 scream-infused power action.
Show Notes:
Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone. Ginseng Sullivan was performed acoustic without microphones and featured Fish on Madonna washboard.

Encore : Take the 'A' Train > Contact
Jamchart Notes:
Foam - -> in from "Fee." Groovy and excellent Page section with solid backing from Mike and Fish. It's all good from there.
Run Like an Antelope - Good exploratory version that gets nicely beyond the standard. Great tension, dissonance and experimental jamming.
Show Notes:
Harpua included Funkytown teases and 'A' Train contained a Dixie tease from Trey. The band launched into the second set-opening Whole Lotta Love Jam as the DJ had been spinning the original Zeppelin version. The opening act was The Aquarium Rescue Unit.

2023.06.09 06:16 Deep_Ear3799 Wondering if this is an unusual hospital experience
Last July, I started taking Mounjaro for weight loss shortly after it was FDA approved. Even at the lowest dose, I got super sick. In early Sept, I got so sick I was vomiting uncontrollably. I ended up going to the ER at a level 1 trauma center here in Chicago and ended up having to wait forever, unsurprisingly, while writhing in pain. After 8 hours, I was finally given a bed, and the docs tried several different antiemetic meds via IV. I could not keep food or drink down. Eventually they admitted me to the hospital overnigjt for observation. I slept fitfully, kept throwing up for about 10 more hours, and had one final spectacular barf then felt fine. I had CT scans, EKG, the works. (I had chest pain, I think from vomiting so much) before I got discharged, 9 doctors come in to give me a final report out about all the tests they ran and their conclusion that it was probably the Mounjaro. The head of internal medicine at this hospital led the meeting. I was just kind of tickled and a little worried that so many docs and the head of internal medicine at a major urban hospital came in to talk to a patient who was just throwing up a lot. Was I a medical mystery or is this standard practice?

2023.06.09 06:12 piecesofscrap Week From Hell Just Before Hell Week
Honestly I just need to write this out before I explode - and I appreciate this group so much for being that space sometimes.
Exactly one week ago my partner totalled his vehicle so we've been down to one car, this followed by a phone call from my mom the next day that her cancer testing and treatments are no longer being covered by her insurance and she had to cancel them because there's no way to afford it. Tuesday I came down with a mystery illness that's made life hell the past three days, and this afternoon my mom called because my grandmother's leg surgery didn't go so well and she's on the verge of heading into ICU.
I'm three weeks into trying a new birth control (Slynd), and I should be getting my period a week from today. Tonight I am in an absolute downward spiral of despair, hating my life/my friends, feeling super "not wanting to be here"...and I honestly don't know if I'm slipping into my hell week a little early or just feeling the weight of one collosally horrible week. I think I'm being preemptively anxious knowing my hormones are fluctuating on top of dealing with a lot, and I'm just dreading what the next week is going to be like.

2023.06.09 05:51 mistachrisjr Upgrade from 10 year old Bose Quiet Comfort 2 to Senhauser Momentum 4
When I was a teenager my grandparents gave me a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 2 over ear headphones. I think I have had them for 10 years and I have used them quite a bit! They have always sounded pretty good to me, but the cups just recently start disentegrating. I also got tired of the aux cord hanging around sometimes. I looked at getting a Bluetooth adapter and a new set of cups for them but I thought maybe it's just time to retire the ole girl. Did some lurking and searching on reddit for a while and decided to try the Senhauser Momentum 4's!
They just came in today and I was super stoked to get home from work and try them out. I fired them up, connected the Bluetooth, went out to my home gym and started to get my workout on. I was pretty fired up! Except... I was a bit underwhelmed... For $300 I was expecting a MASSIVE upgrade and improvement from my old crusty Bose. Don't get me wrong, the M4's sound good and they have some cool features, I was just expecting a more substantial sound improvement from my old Bose. Also, they don't stay on my head as well as my old Bose did while working out, so that's kind of a big strike against the M4.
The jury is still out on the M4's. I'm gonna give them a test ride for the rest of the week to see if I want to keep them or if I want to repair my QQ2's. Also, I'll let my wife try them out and see what she thinks. I like them, I just don't know if I like them enough for 300 bones!

2023.06.09 05:40 YaBoiTrevor Need Mechanical Advice
I’m fairly handy and have done plenty of labor, but I grew up in the country with a pretty rural property that didn’t require mowing so I’m not very mechanical. I recently moved into a rental house and it came with a self-propelled push mower. Landlord said it hasn’t been used in ~2 years. Looks in good condition, but I couldn’t get it to start.
For fuel, so far I have taken the carburetor out and cleaned it well with Sea Foam, replaced old cracked/dry gasket, replaced old fuel line, put in new gas with Sea Foam, replaced air filter, and replaced oil. I don’t know much but the carburetor itself looks in fine condition.
I also replaced the spark plug and did a test by grounding against the edge of the motor and couldn’t get a spark, so I am thinking maybe it is an electrical issue out of my league.
Any ideas of what the problem could be? Is it worth trying more from an expense standpoint, or are further fixes increasingly expensive? We could just buy an old lawn mower off Facebook or something for relatively cheap, so I’m just wondering how much effort I should invest.

2023.06.09 05:36 ElongatedMuskrat Starship Development Thread #46
SpaceX Starship page FAQ
- When (first) orbital flight? First integrated flight test occurred April 20, 2023. "The vehicle cleared the pad and beach as Starship climbed to an apogee of ~39 km over the Gulf of Mexico – the highest of any Starship to-date. The vehicle experienced multiple engines out during the flight test, lost altitude, and began to tumble. The flight termination system was commanded on both the booster and ship."
- Where can I find streams of the launch? SpaceX Full Livestream. NASASpaceFlight Channel. Lab Padre Channel. Everyday Astronaut Channel.
- What's happening next? SpaceX has assessed damage to Stage 0 and is implementing fixes and changes including a water deluge/pad protection/"shower head" system. No major repairs to key structures appear to be necessary.
- When is the next flight test? Just after flight, Elon stated they "Learned a lot for next test launch in a few months." On April 29, he reiterated this estimate in a Twitter Spaces Q&A (summarized here), saying "I'm glad to report that the pad damage is actually quite small," should "be repaired quickly," and "From a pad standpoint, we are probably ready to launch in 6 to 8 weeks." Requalifying the flight termination system (FTS) and the FAA post-incident review will likely require the longest time to complete. Musk reiterated the timeline on May 26, stating "Major launchpad upgrades should be complete in about a month, then another month of rocket testing on pad, then flight 2 of Starship."
- Why no flame diverteflame trench below the OLM? Musk tweeted on April 21: "3 months ago, we started building a massive water-cooled, steel plate to go under the launch mount. Wasn’t ready in time & we wrongly thought, based on static fire data, that Fondag would make it through 1 launch." Regarding a trench, note that the Starship on the OLM sits 2.5x higher off the ground than the Saturn V sat above the base of its flame trench, and the OLM has 6 exits vs. 2 on the Saturn V trench.

Pre-S24 | | Scrapped or Retired | SN15 and S20 are in the Rocket Garden, the rest are scrapped. |
S24 | In pieces in the ocean | Destroyed | April 20th: Destroyed when booster MECO and ship stage separation from booster failed three minutes and 59 seconds after successful launch, so FTS was activated. This was the second launch attempt. |
S25 | Launch Site | Testing | On Feb 23rd moved back to build site, then on the 25th taken to the Massey's test site. March 21st: Cryo test. May 5th: Another cryo test. May 18th: Moved to the Launch Site and in the afternoon lifted onto Suborbital Test Stand B. |
S26 | Rocket Garden | Resting | No fins or heat shield, plus other changes. March 25th: Lifted onto the new higher stand in Rocket Garden. March 28th: First RVac installed (number 205). March 29th: RVac number 212 taken over to S26 and later in the day the third RVac (number 202) was taken over to S26 for installation. March 31st: First Raptor Center installed (note that S26 is the first Ship with electric Thrust Vector Control). April 1st: Two more Raptor Centers moved over to S26. |
S27 | Rocket Garden | Completed but no Raptors yet | Like S26, no fins or heat shield. April 24th: Moved to the Rocket Garden. |
S28 | High Bay 1 | Under construction | February 7th Assorted parts spotted. March 24th: Mid LOX barrel taken into High Bay 1. March 28th: Existing stack placed onto Mid LOX barrel. March 31st: Almost completed stack lifted off turntable. April 5th: Aft/Thrust section taken into High Bay 1. April 6th: the already stacked main body of the ship has been placed onto the thrust section, giving a fully stacked ship. April 25th: Lifted off the welding turntable, then the 'squid' detached - it was then connected up to a new type of lifting attachment which connects to the two lifting points below the forward flaps that are used by the chopsticks. May 25th: Installation of the first Aft Flap (interesting note: the Aft Flaps for S28 are from the scrapped S22). |
S29 | High Bay 1 | Under construction | April 28th: Nosecone and Payload Bay taken inside High Bay 1 (interesting note: the Forward Flaps are from the scrapped S22). May 1st: nosecone stacked onto payload bay (note that S29 is being stacked on the new welding turntable to the left of center inside High Bay 1, this means that LabPadre's Sentinel Cam can't see it and so NSF's cam looking at the build site is the only one with a view when it's on the turntable). May 4th: Sleeved Forward Dome moved into High Bay 1 and placed on the welding turntable. May 5th: Nosecone+Payload Bay stack placed onto Sleeved Forward Dome and welded. May 10th: Nosecone stack hooked up to new lifting rig instead of the 'Squid' (the new rig attaches to the Chopstick's lifting points and the leeward Squid hooks). May 11th: Sleeved Common Dome moved into High Bay 1. May 16th: Nosecone stack placed onto Sleeved Common Dome and welded. May 18th: Mid LOX section moved inside High Bay 1. May 19th: Current stack placed onto Mid LOX section for welding. June 2nd: Aft/Thrust section moved into High Bay 1. June 6th: The already stacked main body of the ship has been placed onto the thrust section, giving a fully stacked ship. |
S30+ | Build Site | Parts under construction | Assorted parts spotted through S34. |
Booster | Location | Status | Comment |
Pre-B7 & B8 | | Scrapped or Retired | B4 is in the Rocket Garden, the rest are scrapped. |
B7 | In pieces in the ocean | Destroyed | April 20th: Destroyed when MECO and stage separation of ship from booster failed three minutes and 59 seconds after successful launch, so FTS was activated. This was the second launch attempt. |
B9 | High Bay 2 | Raptor Install | Cryo testing (methane and oxygen) on Dec. 21 and Dec. 29. Rollback on Jan. 10. On March 7th Raptors started to be taken into High Bay 2 for B9. |
B10 | Rocket Garden | Resting | 20-ring LOX tank inside High Bay 2 and Methane tank (with grid fins installed) in the ring yard. March 18th: Methane tank moved from the ring yard and into High Bay 2 for final stacking onto the LOX tank. March 22nd: Methane tank stacked onto LOX tank, resulting in a fully stacked booster. May 27th: Moved to the Rocket Garden. Note: even though it appears to be complete it currently has no Raptors. |
B11 | High Bay 2 | Under construction | March 24th: 'A3' barrel had the current 8-ring LOX tank stacked onto it. March 30th: 'A4' 4-ring LOX tank barrel taken inside High Bay 2 and stacked. April 2nd: 'A5' 4-ring barrel taken inside High Bay 2. April 4th: First methane tank 3-ring barrel parked outside High Bay 2 - this is probably F2. April 7th: downcomer installed in LOX tank (which is almost fully stacked except for the thrust section). April 28th: Aft section finally taken inside High Bay 2 to have the rest of the LOX tank welded to it (which will complete the LOX tank stack). May 11th: Methane tank Forward section and the next barrel down taken into High Bay 2 and stacked. May 18th: Methane tank stacked onto another 3 ring next barrel, making it 9 rings tall out of 13. May 20th: Methane tank section stacked onto the final barrel, meaning that the Methane tank is now fully stacked. May 23rd: Started to install the grid fins. June 3rd: Methane Tank stacked onto LOX Tank, meaning that B11 is now fully stacked. Once welded still more work to be done such as the remaining plumbing and wiring. |
B12 | High Bay 2 (LOX Tank) | Under construction | June 3rd: LOX tank commences construction: Common Dome (CX:4) and a 4-ring barrel (A2:4) taken inside High Bay 2 where CX:4 was stacked onto A2:4 on the right side welding turntable. June 7th: A 4-ring barrel (A3:4) was taken inside High Bay 2. June 8th: Barrel section A3:4 was lifted onto the welding turntable and the existing stack placed on it for welding. |
B13+ | Build Site | Parts under construction | Assorted parts spotted through B17. |

2023.06.09 04:26 Federal_Sprinkles_66 Super strange issue with 350z
hello! I wouldn't be posting this if it wasn't my literal last resort but this car is about to make me go insane. I've owned the car for 5 years and been nice to it the whole time, keeping up with its needs.
engine: 150k ish. transmission: 72k, 2005 DE
starting about 3 months ago, randomly one day the car began to do random misfires, at the beginning it would throw a p0300 but eventually stopped doing so while progressing to get worse. to explain deeper the misfire occurs most often at idle with AC turned off. with the AC on the rpms rev to 1000 and no longer misfire near as much. the misfire sounds like a ghost cam and is completely random. other symptoms have been car will stall if put in neutral while breaking hard only happened once so far but it was getting off the highway, it will just idle down to its own death. also when revving the engine to exactly 1100-1500 rpms and letting off the gas the car will stay revving for about 2 seconds before slowly returning to idle, and when doing so the idle will bounce. also to add, the misfire intensity seems to change randomly, somedays it'll be okay and the power feels amazing, others it feels terrible and super shaky, and feels like a Honda Fit would beat my ass in a race. now to list mods and things I've tried - also if you made it this far thank you for helping!
invidia n1 catback, Megan racing test pipes
Z1 short ram intake ported upper & lower manifold, Z1 Plenum Spacer 5/16''-1/2' (verified no leaks & did proper sealing)
75mm throttle body (throttle relearn completely with all accessories off)
Build CD009 put in recently
GTR injectors & walbrol 255
Add W1 Baffled Oil Catch Can V3.3
UpRev Tune 5 maps
- things I've tried to fix this pain in the ass
replaced all coil packs & spark plugs
Intake leak test (pass I replaced all intake manifold gaskets as well)
Vacuum leak (pass)
Throttle body relearn (pass & done correctly)
Messed with the fuel pump & cleaned injectors fuel system is up to pressure (0.2 injector delay all running equal with AC on and off)
Tried various gas stations (running 93)
passed compression on all cylinders (170-177)
downstream o2 sensors are deleted and the tuner has disabled them upstream are fine.
cleaned all engine grounds + main terminals (14.9V cold start 14.3-14.7 warm)
visually inspected intake valves seemed okay and very clean
confirmed coil pack wires are secure
cleaned cam + crank sensor(s) and checked EVAP & PCV valve
properly cleaned + oiled the intake & cleaned the MAF sensor + swapped MAFs with a buddy just to confirm
disassembled VVT solenoids & cleaned them properly
I've consulted with my tuner & a Nissan master tech, and still have no clue
The last code the car ever threw was a p0011 bank 1 about a month ago, tuner looked into it and didn't see anything wrong with the fuel or timing. haven't seen any cel 1500+ miles since then.
