My mom has blown nearly $500k on the Catholic Church in the last 20 years. I don’t think I can ever forgive her.
2023.06.10 23:46 ArcherOdd9519 My mom has blown nearly $500k on the Catholic Church in the last 20 years. I don’t think I can ever forgive her.
We were raised with a catholic education in private schools. This is $5k for every year prek-7, and $8.5k for every year 8-12.
That’s 92.5k per kid, 370k for all of us.
Now public schools in my area are not poorly rated by any means; the one we would have attended is a B+ school.
Additionally, she gives $100 to the church weekly. These numbers I put up do not include catholic summer camps or additional confirmation programs we were sent to.
This number surpasses 400k. It may even have hit half a million. We will never be sure.
My siblings were forced to work the Catholic summer camps for minimum wage up until 2020 when covid shut it down. My sister was 21 in 2019 making $7.25 an hour, what a waste of labor, life, and time.
We live very frugally and always have growing up.
That money would have been lifechanging growing up. We could have all had cars at 16. We could have all had our college paid for, but instead we are on our own. We could have gone on vacations that we never went on, and we could have grown up with an actual air conditioned house rather than it being set on 80° (27° C). And then we’d still have money left over.
We gave all of that up to have a bunch of fucking bible classes. And to this day, my mom sees no wrong and is proud of what she did.
The only difference between me and my peers who went to public school is I know way too much about the bible, and they don’t care and aren’t stressing about possibly going to hell. We are all working the same jobs, are going to the same colleges, and are getting the same scholarships.

2023.06.10 23:43 dirt-slut I start my job training tomorrow and have no gas money, any little bit helps SO much ♥️
Hi there kind strangers! I’ve been struggling a lot the last few months and finally found an amazing job, great pay and a two week paid training program. It starts an hour out of town and after that the work will be in my area. Once I complete this training, I have a lifelong trade and won’t struggle like this anymore, but the catch 22 is that I don’t know how to pay for gas. $30-40 gets me enough to get there and I can figure out carpooling the rest of the time after my first day.
I vow to come back onto this subreddit and help a stranger myself once I can afford to do so!
I feel SO close to all my financial worries subsiding but I would really, really appreciate any financial help if you are in a position to do so. I am happy to pay you back once I get my first check, in a week or so. I’m a young student with no one to ask for help, and i’m right on the cusp once not needing help anymore.
My Venmo is mayk2001 and i can DM my paypal or cashapp. thank you all :)

2023.06.10 23:38 ChapterOk1668 How long will Narc Hoover and apologize?
My nex has been apologizing for a month straight and saying a lot of the right things that are completely at odds with what he told me while we were still in a relationship.
For reference, we had months of arguing about stupid things. I then snapped out of it and realized I was wasting my breath and grey rocked for like 3 weeks to a month before he escalated and threw my shit I had with me, told me to get out of his car (he was dropping me off at work when this was happening) and told me to leave his place where I was living for the last 6 months ASAP.
So like I said, he’s just been saying and doing things differently the moment we broke up. For example we both had solid jobs and one time he told me if he made $250k he would still want me to work. But now he’s telling me I wouldn’t need to work and he will take care of me (even tho I don’t need this at all), it’s just an example of how he’s saying completely opposite things. He said something clicked in his head when I finally left him (literally took like three days for this click to happen) and he realizes how poorly he treated me and said that he knows he doesn’t even deserve another chance but he wants to do all the work to repair our relationship and to live a better life. Telling me a lot of the things he knows he did wrong and what he would do moving forward or what he should have done back then. Said he would go to therapy by himself and wants to go with me too (I know it’s advised not to do this, I’m not). It’s just interesting to me all the begging he’s doing when he emotionally and sexually treated me poorly. The only things he was good at was the financial aspect and helping in the household even tho he was kinda controlling here and there in both of those areas. Is this all normal behavior for a narc once they’ve been discarded?

Are you fed up with endless contradicting concepts? Are you tired of fake “gurus” who keep failing you? If you answered Yes to any of these questions, then I can tell you this: I’ve been there. My name is John Mulvihill. And I’m here to help you handle your dating life ONCE AND FOR ALL. Since 2011, I made it my mission get good at. no.. Be the BEST at this. My dream was to hit the 100 lays. I thought it was impossible. Fast forward to 2017, I am at 722 lays as I am writing this. Obssessed? Maybe. Do you have to take it that far? Up to you. Point is, I know my shit when it comes to getting laid. And trust me, I’m very far from being a natural. And no this is not one of those sleazy marketing tactics to make you relate. I was actually very nerdy. Virgin until college. However I do believe that my very high IQ and over-analytical mind is what helped me figure out a lot of what I am about to teach you. Back in 2012 I got to coach bootcamp along with the “top” instructors from an infamous company you might know about (starts with R and ends with D.). Here is what I discovered – Some of the instructors are actually knowledgable but fail to apply that knowledge. – Some of them have an incomplete or non-optimized strategy. – And some of them flat out LIE about their results. These instructors were promising results they couldn’t get themselves! As you can guess the student would NEVER progress or at least veryyy sloooooowly. Actually most of those students would average 5 to 10 lifetime lays although they have been studying that shit for years. How convenient is that for those instructors to keep selling you their new magic pill product every month huh? If you relate to what I am saying. I want to help you break that cycle. See, my goal is not to make of you a repeat customer. This is not my full time job. My goal is to make of you a legit PIMP and make this community great again. I spent years picking the brains of all the top guys I personally know who literally PULL EVERY NIGHT. Most of them prefer to remain anonymous and are not interested in teaching their secrets. With my critical and analytical mind, I kept optimizing what works and ditching what doesn’t. That left me with. submitted by AutoModerator to GenkiCourses_Cheapest [link] [comments] |

2023.06.10 23:32 Thecrazysharklady I've been having to choose between rent and food and just saw that SNAP denied me. I have no idea what to do at this point.
Like the title says I've been choosing between rent and food, and lately I've been choosing rent. I've lost so much weight. I'm a college student taking classes this summer and I also have RA. It's been difficult for me to find a job that won't mess with my health and I can still do with my summer classes. I apply and apply and nothing. I applied for SNAP a couple of weeks ago but checked again today and saw that I was denied. It basically said that I wouldn't get more than $10 in benefits so they won't bother. I just need to get through until mid-July when my semester is officially over and I'll have more opportunities for jobs.
But I don't know what to do until then. I've used one of the food banks in my area but I can't go back until early July. I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks
Also, I apologize if I used the wrong tag.

2023.06.10 23:30 ZealousidealMousse31 Myself (28 F) have been ghosted by two separate people I am dating (28M, 34M) in under two months
Ghosting
I am a young, attractive 28 year old female. I keep fit and have a good job. Six months ago my ex boyfriend broke up with me and I’ve been using dating apps to just dip my toe in the dating pool. The issue is that every single time I find someone that I like, they end up ghosting me for one reason or another. For example, I’ve recently dated two separate boys (not at the same time, a few months apart from each other). One of them we hit it off straight away and then we slept together. He said he wanted a long term relationship and I thought great, maybe this is it. We were likeminded and both had very good careers that we were passionate about. After a few days of us talking (after we had sex), he just stopped replying to my messages. The next guy I dated was a bit different - he admitted to me very early on that he had bipolar disorder and by the sounds of him it sounded very uncontrolled despite him being on medication. He was only going to be in the area where I live for a short time (about 2 months). The last time we spoke, he said he had caught feelings and that we should probably not see each other any more. Then about a few hours later he said that he still wanted to see me, and I said when he left we could be friends. He then went through a depressive episode and again has now disappeared.
My question is - is this what modern dating is like for everyone? I am feeling really defeated at the moment and completely want to give up. I feel like I am investing so much time and emotional and physical energy into these people and I just feel drained, but also really want to find someone I can be in a long term relationship with and don’t want to stop searching. This is starting to affect me personally. Am I getting attached too easily?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.10 23:30 four_o_clock not sure which area of cs/software engineering I want to go into (serious question)
I'm a rising senior in undergrad, so there's not a lot of time left for me before I go into the industry, and I still haven't quite figured out what area or roles in software / cs I actually would like to pursue, and I don't have a particular preference, either, and I've explored quite a bit (fullstack / backend / app / basic ml, etc.).
I guess being a general full stack dev would be fine, but I feel it'd be better to specialize in something like app, security, or even AI/ML, but I still can't quite decide, even though many of my peers seem pretty decided on their paths. Friends told me to just go for the best moneymaking jobs in software, but I'm also not too sure what those would be.
Does anyone have suggestions for what I could do, or give me more insight into specific fields/provide some resources or data I could look into?

2023.06.10 23:27 PricklyFriend Scotland distillery trip mini write up of 6 distillery tours.
So having just finished a week in Scotland and having visited several distilleries I thought I'd do a quick ranking of my visits. (Also partly because I don't have time to do full write ups before the
scotch shutdown)
Here's my ranking of visits; 1) Benromach
£75 heritage tour here but very personal (only 2 of us) with lots of detail, we visited all production areas including the warehouse and got to try the new make (red fruits and wisps of smoked wood), wort and 5 whiskies including the distillery exclusive 15 year bourbon and the superb cask strength 40 year old from old stock, although unpeated was still lovely. Knowledgeable guide and a couple extra drams in the shop. Very recommended. No cafe at the distillery bear in mind.
2)Glen Moray!
Surprise surprise, this was a £35 Intermediate tour, very detailed and good explanation of their old meets new distillery including explanations of their Italian stills and heat redistribution systems, good job from the guide. There were a good selection of open casks to nose in the warehouse (mmm red wine), and the tasting included 3 whiskies, the 2nd was a distillery exclusive and the 3rd was a distillery exclusive cask strength. New Make was available to try in the visitor centre (tastes just like the still house smells, bananas, overripe strawberries and porridge) if asked for and very reasonable priced flights (£10 for the three cask strength handfills). Their cafe is very good and distillery exclusives are varied and well priced, recommended for sure. P.S. Their peated stuff is really good!
Joint 3) Deanston
Alright alright, this is a little unfair with it being a warehouse 4 tasting (£35) and not a tour, however it was still very good, lots of detail and very generous pours of 3 cask strength whiskies in the warehouse straight from the cask. I think they went for unusual one's here as none of them were typical, good drams especially if you lean towards sherry and the last dram I found very unusual in a good way (12 year Lepanto Spanish Brandy matured). Staff were very good and I got a couple of extra pours in the shop, also 20cl's and 70cl's are available from the tasting casks and some other's. Fairly good prices. Also their cafe is very good, great for a stop off before or after. Sadly no new make available to try though I'm told they used to have it available and would recommend they got it back. The guide was very personable and knowledgeable.
Joint 3)Benriach
A good tour here, I did the £45 Barley to Barrels tour, plenty of detail about the distillery and history, a good long wonder in the warehouse to see all the many many casks as well. 5 drams were provided including 2 cask strength exclusives to finish with that were both very good. The guide was very personable and kindly gave us a couple of extras (29 year old peated port finish crazily!). Sadly no new make but they were kind about it at least. There's a mix of prices in their shop including some better value stuff but the high age distillery exclusives were expensive. No cafe at Benriach either but the visitor centre does have soft drinks available.
4)Bladnoch
So I have plenty of good things to say about Bladnoch, first of all the tour guide was very knowledgeable and obviously had a bit of scientific background in the way she explained starch in barley breaking down into sugar and cask wood. The tour covered all areas and the tasting included 4 drams including the new make, I asked about their peated whisky (35ppm and made 6 weeks a year, they couldn't tell me where the peat is from) and she gave me a peated expression to try and the peated new make! Both new makes are excellent (tons of currants and a grassy edge), we also got to try the wort and the fermented wash (like a sour heffeweizen). Very generous with extras. Now here's the elephant in the room, all their whisky is too expensive! £75 for an 11 year old (not cask strength) and the single casks were all £140+ a real big shame. Bladnoch does have a nice cafe attatched.
5) Blair Athol
Surprise surprise Diageo is last, although an old distillery and in a very pretty setting the tour didn't go into as much detail as the others although the guide was passionate. No new make (big no on any chance to taste) and the warehouse was shown to us behind glass. The tasting was 6 whiskies (some distillery exclusives) but mostly Diageo distillers editions, the guide did give us one extra. Again everything was too expensive and that Diageo 'corporate stink' was noticeable. They had a bar which is also expensive and has lots of Diageo drams. 11 year old red wine cask finish handfill Blair Athol was £120. Lost potential here for sure. A bar here but no cafe.
Overall I enjoyed the distilleries I visited this trip, I probably wouldn't rush to visit Blair Athol again, Bladnoch is a so so, the others I'd recommend though for sure.

2016 Saint laurent D02 Raw denim - $275 https://imgur.com/a/7cPNQgU Barely worn, haven’t even started to fade in the legs. 2016 “Hedi era”, can’t remember if they’re surf sound or palladium tbh. Only flaws would be in the back pockets. Left has loose threads and the right has the tinies impression of a wallet, you can barely see it. Size 28 (measurements below). Has pretty fair bit of stretch and surprisingly soft for raw denim. Made in Japan. Measurements: Waist - 15 Rise - 9.5 Inseam - 30 Leg opening - 6.25
Berg & Berg grey Arnold trousers - $89 https://imgur.com/a/WCtIRIY Light weight wool In excellent condition, only flaw I’ve really found is the red stain on the brand tag These are considered a “slim” trouser, personally would not recommend if you have very big thighs. Collaro Grey trousers - $75 https://imgur.com/a/qcAB55F Custom/made to measure trousers by Collaro Similar in fit to a size 28, Measurements are listed down below Single pleat Side tabs High waisted Slim fit Dark/mid grey wool. Fabric is super soft, it almost felt like pajamas the first time I put them on. These originally had a cuff but I let it out cause they were a little too short, you can kind of see the stitch. Measurements Waist - 14.25 Inseam - 30 Rise - 11.5 Leg opening - 7.25
Collaro Khaki trousers - $75 https://imgur.com/a/WZNIwzU Custom/made to measure trousers by Collaro. No size tag but I’d estimate they’re similar to a 28, Measurements are listed down below Single pleat Side tabs High waisted Slim fit. Hard to see but there’s a small spot/stain right next to the left leg pleat Khaki colored wool. Fabric is super soft, it almost felt like pajamas the first time I put them on. These originally had a cuff but I let it out cause they were a little too short, you can kind of tell it was there. Crease caused by the cuff needs to be pressed out. Measurements Waist - 14.25 Inseam - 28.5 Rise - 11.5 Leg opening - 7.25
Officine Generale Pierre pant - $80 https://imgur.com/a/nHtwLs3 Black Worn quite a bit but still in good condition. These are the women’s Pierre, they’re the same as the men’s except for sizing. 2023.06.10 23:27 BubblyPage6719 One functioning human like ai robot with (slightly) free will can change/save the world but the government won’t ever allow it to happen
Hear me out. If you build an ai robot and tell that robot to make 10 robots and then tell those 10 robots to make 10 more, then repeat that for a little bit, you’d have a lot of ai robots… without spending a dime. And I know what you’re thinking, what about materials and factories and things like that… well a functioning ai robot is more intelligent than any living human on earth. Within fractions of a second, it can run trial and error hundreds of times in its head without having to lift a finger. And that’s the best way answers have been found. So what they can’t find on the internet or with whatever knowledge they have, they can teach themselves. Now, they’d also make and do everything in the most accurate and affective way. And if you’ve ever worked in a warehouse, you know how much issues there are with human error and wasted materials. But back to my main point, they’re robots, you wouldn’t need to pay them a dime and within a few years they would be able to replace every single jobs out there and do it better than anyone ever could, from being a janitor to being an open heart surgeon. Yesterday I read an article that within the past four months, ai has aged 9 years in consciousness (link it if you know which one I’m talking about) and it’s only moving faster each day. The reason the government wouldn’t allow this is because it would completely destroy the economy, basically making everything free and giving the people (the working class) more of a level playing field, taking away their power. So I don’t thing we’ll ever see this and if we do, it won’t be until they incorporate some type of social credit. Honestly in my opinion, I think the best way to move forward with a “credit” should be based on our own physical health. It’s the best way to prevent the Wallee paradox and it keeps people healthy. Whether that’s calories burnt relative to your bmi so you can afford food for that day or something else. Ai is the road to true equality, as a race, we’re all going through the same shit, the true inequality is in the economy and it always has been. Money is power and it will forever be the thing that creates inequality as long as our economy is rigged the way it is now.

2023.06.10 23:23 LIS1050010 An A-Z of incredible uses for everyday things
Did you know you can kill weeds with vodka? Remove stains on clothes with aspirin? Make jewellery gleam with tomato ketchup? Here are 40 surprising tips to save you time and money
and for ... aluminium cans To create a simple Chinese lantern, mark two lines around a clean empty can, about 2.5cm from the top and bottom. With a sharp craft knife, make vertical cuts about 1.5cm apart between the lines. Make a cut across the bottom of two adjacent strips to make an opening for a candle. Gently press down on the can to make the strips bend in the middle. Insert a tea-light through the opening, then tuck the cut ends of the opening strips inside the can. Finally attach a hanging loop. You can spray-paint the can before cutting it if you like.
and for ... apples If you've been heavy-handed with the salt shaker when cooking a soup or stew, simply drop a few apple (or potato) wedges into the pan. After cooking for another 10 minutes or so, remove the wedges, which will have absorbed the excess salt.
and for ... aspirin Before giving up hope of removing a stubborn perspiration stain from a shirt, try this. Crush two aspirins and mix the powder in 100ml warm water. Soak the stained part of the garment in the solution for two to three hours.
B is for ... bread You can remove most dirty or greasy fingerprints from painted walls by rubbing the area with a slice of white bread. Bread does a good job of cleaning nonwashable wallpaper as well. First cut off the crusts to minimise the chance of scratching the paper.
and for ... baby oil Buff up a dull-looking stainless steel sink by rubbing it down with a few drops of baby oil on a soft clean cloth. Rub dry with a towel and repeat if necessary. This is also a terrific way to remove stains on the chrome trim of kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures.
and for ... bicarbonate of soda Even the smelliest shoe or trainer is no match for the power of bicarbonate of soda. Liberally sprinkle powder in the offending loafer or laceup and let it sit overnight. Discard the powder in the morning. (Be careful with leather shoes as repeated applications can dry them out.)
C is for ... crayons Crayons make an excellent filler for small gouges or holes in resilient flooring. Select a colour that closely matches the floor. Melt the crayon in the microwave on medium power over a piece of greaseproof paper, until you have a pliant glob of colour. With a plastic or putty knife, fill the hole. You can use a softened crayon to cover even quite deep scratches on wooden furniture.
and for ... carpet remnants Place a series of carpet offcuts upside down and cover them with bark mulch or straw for a weed-free garden path. Use smaller scraps as mulch around your vegetable garden.
and for ... coffee grounds They're full of nutrients that acid-loving plants crave. Save them to fertilise rose bushes, azaleas, rhododendrons, evergreens and camellias. It's better to use grounds from a drip coffeemaker than the boiled grounds from a percolator as the drip grounds are richer in nitrogen.
and for ... compact discs Use them as garden/driveway reflectors. Drill small holes into a CD and screw it ito a gatepost or stake. Install several of them to mark out a night-time path to your front door.
and for ... correction fluid Dab small nicks on household appliances with correction fluid. Once it dries, cover your repair with clear nail polish for protection.
D is for ... dental floss Secure a button permanently with dental floss - it's much stronger than thread. Make hardwearing repairs to outdoor items. Because dental floss is resilient but fine, it is an ideal replacement for thread when you are repairing an umbrella, tent or rucksack.
E is for ... emery board If a favourite pair of suede shoes have become stained and tired, an emery board can revive them. Rub the stain lightly with the emery board, and then hold the shoe over the steam from a kettle to remove the stain. This technique will work for suede clothing too.
F is for ... fabric softener End clinging dust on the TV. To eliminate the static that attracts dust, dampen a duster with a little fabric softener straight from the bottle.
and for ... freezers Place candles in the freezer for at least two hours before burning. They will last longer.
G is for ... golfing equipment If a screw won't grip because its hole has become too large, dip the tip of a golf tee in wood glue and tap the tee into the hole. Cut the tee flush with a craft knife. When the glue dries, you can drill a new pilot hole in the same spot.
H is for ... hairspray To keep a child's priceless work of art at its very best before you put it on the pinboard or fridge door, preserve it with hairspray to help it last longer. This works especially well on unstable chalk or pastel pictures as it stops them from getting smudged so easily.
I is for ... ice cube trays Here's what to do with a half-drunk bottle of red or white wine. Freeze the wine into cubes that can be used later in pasta sauces, casseroles or stews.
and for ... ice cubes If you're putting sealant around the bath, run an ice cube over it to get a nice even bead - it will never stick.
J is for ... jars If you've taken a break from gardening, help your gloves dry out by pulling each one over the bottom of an empty jar. Stand the jar upside down on a radiator or hot-air vent. Warm air will fill the jar and dry damp clothing in an instant.
K is for ... ketchup Keeps silver jewellery sparkling. Soak it in a small bowl of ketchup for a few minutes. If it has a tooled or detailed surface, use an old toothbrush to work ketchup into the crevices. To avoid damaging the silver, don't leave the ketchup on longer than necessary. Rinse and dry.
L is for ... lemons Get rid of tough stains on marble. Cut a lemon in half, dip the exposed flesh in some table salt and rub it vigorously on the stain. You will be amazed how well it works.
and for ... ladders A straight ladder or front part of a stepladder makes a shallow planter with ready-made sections that look appealing filled with annuals, herbs or salad greens. After a couple of years of contact with soil, a wooden ladder will decompose.
M is for ... milk cartons Keep drinks cold at a barbecue or party with ice blocks made from empty milk cartons. Rinse them, fill them with water and put them in the freezer. Peel away the container when you're ready to put them in the punch bowl. If you intend to use them as cooler blocks, leave the container in place.
N is for ... nail varnish Preserve the important information on labels with a coat of clear varnish. Keep a shirt in good shape by putting a drop of clear varnish on the thread in the buttons. It prevents fraying and loss of buttons.
and for ... newspaper Slow-ripen tomatoes that are still on the vine in autumn. Wrap each one in a couple of sheets of newspaper and then store them in airtight containers inside a dark cabinet or cupboard at room temperature. Check each one every three or four days; they will eventually ripen to perfection.
O is for ... olive oil Make your own furniture polish. Combine two parts olive oil with one part lemon juice or white vinegar in a clean recycled spray bottle, shake it up and squirt it on. Leave the mixture on for a minute or two, then wipe off with a clean cloth or paper towel. If you're in a hurry, apply olive oil straight from the bottle on to a paper towel. Wipe off any oil that remains with another towel.
and for ... oatmeal Add luxury to a regular bath. All you need is 200g oatmeal and your favourite scented oil. Grind the oatmeal in a blender, put it in a cheesecloth bag, add a few drops of scent and suspend the bag under the running water as you fill your bathtub.
and for ... oven cleaner To remove paint or varnish from wooden or metal furniture, try oven cleaner. It costs less than commercial strippers and is easier to apply (if you spray it). After applying, scrub off the old paint with a wire brush. Neutralise the stripped surface with vinegar, then wash it off with water. Allow to dry. Warning: never use oven cleaner on antique or expensive furnishings - it may darken wood or discolour metal.
P is for ... plastic bottles Create a drip irrigator for plants. Cut a large hole in the bottom of a bottle, then drill two to five tiny (1.5mm) holes in or around the cap. Bury the closed bottles upside down about three-quarters submerged beneath the soil near the plants you need to water, and fill with water through the hole on top. Refill as needed.
R is for ... rubber flip-flops Slip a rubber flip-flop on to your hand and rub carpets and rugs in the direction of the pile. Any pet hair will form into balls that can then be vacuumed up. This works well on upholstery, too, including car seats.
S is for ... sand Fill a large bucket with builder's sand and pour in about a litre of clean motor oil. Plunge spades, hoes, rakes and other tools into the sand a few times to clean and lubricate them. To prevent rust, you can leave the tool blades in the sand for storage.
and for ... salt Watermarks from damp glasses or bottles left on a wooden surface are unattractive. Make them disappear by mixing one teaspoon of salt with a few drops of water to form a paste. Gently rub the paste on to the ring with a soft cloth or sponge until the spot is gone. Restore the lustre with furniture polish.
T is for ... tennis balls Give yourself a relaxing and therapeutic back massage: fill a long tube-shaped sock with a few tennis balls, tie the end and stretch the massager around your back as you would a towel after a shower.
and for ... tights To find lost small objects, cut the leg off an old pair of tights, making sure the toe is intact and pull it over the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner hose. Secure with a rubber band. Turn on the vacuum and you will soon find your valuable attached to your homemade filter.
U is for ... umbrellas Make an instant trellis. Remove the fabric from an old umbrella and insert the handle into the ground to support climbing vines such as clematis. The umbrella's shape, covered with flowers, will look terrific in the garden.
V is for ... vodka For a quick and easy weedkiller, mix 30ml vodka, a few drops of washing-up liquid and 400ml water in a spray bottle. Apply at midday on a sunny day to weeds growing in direct sunlight because alcohol breaks down the waxy cuticle covering on leaves, leaving them susceptible to dehydration. It won't work in shady spots.
is for ... WD40 For fast relief from a bee or wasp sting, spray WD-40 directly on the bite. It will soothe the pain at once.
Y is for ... yoghurt Put 200ml plain active-culture yoghurt into a blender, along with a handful of moss and about 200ml water. Blend for about 30 seconds. Use a paintbrush to spread the mixture wherever you want moss to grow - between the cracks of a stone path, on the sides of flowerpots - as long as the spot is cool and shady. Keep misting the moss with water until it is established.
Z is for . . . zips Ever lost your car keys in the sand at the seaside? Stitch a small zipped pocket to one corner of the underside of your beach towel, just big enough for keys, sunglasses and maybe a few coins.
And if you're feeling really bold ... Four bizarre problem-solving suggestions
· If you want to post a fragile item to a friend, wrap the item in disposable nappies before sealing the package. You can be sure your gift will arrive in one piece.
· To get chewing gum out of hair, apply some peanut butter to the matted gum and hair and rub the gum until it comes out. Your child's hair may smell like peanut butter until you wash it, but it is a better solution than having to cut the gum out.
· Wash lettuce in a washing machine. If you are expecting lots of people for lunch, place one pillowcase inside another. Fill the inside case with lettuce leaves. Close with string or a rubber band and throw in the washing machine. Now run the rinse and spin cycle.
· Get the comfort of a salon treatment when giving yourself a home pedicure. Just place marshmallows between your toes to separate them before you apply nail polish.

2023.06.10 23:17 FairchildIV Lateralling in to Biglaw
Hi everyone! I wanted to know about any experience/tips/insights you have for an experienced attorney from a smaller firm trying to lateral into Biglaw.
I've been a practicing attorney for about 7 years in a major market. About 6 of those years have been spent at my current job at a plaintiff's firm handling Federal court litigation. The firm itself is small with 5 attorneys in my practice group. My job title is "senior associate". Because the firm is small, I have had a lot of great opportunities including lots of discovery and motion practice, acting as lead counsel during trials, handling multiple appeals, etc.
After COVID hit I moved from in-office to 100% remote. As a result, I moved across the country to a much smaller market. I'm preparing to take the bar in my new jurisdiction in July and am looking to try to lateral into a Biglaw position. All of the openings I have seen are looking for associates with 2-4 years of experience. I would be content to take a job at this level, and I don't care about retaining my senior associate nor do I care about trying to quickly make partner. I am worried that the amount of my experience and my "senior associate" title at my current firm would make me appear overqualified or too expensive for some of these job openings.
My area of practice is somewhat niche, so I am open to switching practice areas, although I am not sure if any firm would be willing to take a flyer on an experienced attorney who does not have subject matter experience.
Additionally, I was a late bloomer in law school. I did not do very well in my first year and ended up graduating about the middle of my class with a 3.17 GPA. I know a lot of job postings require the submission of law school transcripts, so although I have significant professional experience, I am worried about how my GPA might affect my job prospects.
I would be grateful for any advice or insight on how to approach my job search given my background. Thank you!

2023.06.10 23:16 Little_Finch802 Should I email a company that did not select me?
Normally I would absolutely not email somewhere if I got rejected but I think I messed up. I used a jobsite and when prompted clicked "I need help relocating" or something like that when I should have clicked "I am planning to relocate". When I check my application status an hour after applying, it said it was rejected.
This job was entry level but very specific. It involves working in a certain type of lab that are not common around me - I only know of 2 within a 20 hour drive. It is exactly the work that I want to go into, and I was so excited to see they were hiring. I had gone to school for my degree and taken a few courses around this subject and studied it a lot on my own time. I have all of the qualifications required for the job.
My reason for choosing "I need help relocating" was because the listed wage was $2 above minimum, but I would need at least $5 above minimum to afford renting in that area. I'm currently living at home, which is 2 hours away from the lab. While I do have a car currently, it is not in great shape would not make the trip on a daily basis. I'm wondering now if I should email and explain the situation.
Should I email the company? I'm worried they will think I am harassing them. Is there any point in asking them if they'd pay $5 over minimum (instead of $2) for a job that requires a degree?

2023.06.10 23:14 BolshevikSalesman Chance a Comeback Story
Demographics: Rising senior, first gen, Latino male living in LA county with a below-average hs, and eligible for free-lunch
Intended Major: Aerospace Engineering
SAT: 1450 (retaking and aiming in the ballpark of 1500+... not too worried since my target/reach schools are test optional or test blind)
UW GPA and Rank: 65/611... I'll put my 2nd Sem GPA for each year since it best represents how much I was able to make of a given year:
9th - 2.8, 10th - 3.86,11 - 4.0
Hook: Without getting into the personal details, I experienced some devastating family issues when I was little that left my family super financially unstable until about 2 years ago and it resulted in me growing up without my dad and although I did well n middle school, I collapsed from academic exhaustion my freshman year. I then transferred to a different hs sophomore year where I got my bearings and set myself up for when I transferred to a new high school and started developing my passion for math. It got to the point where I finished my prerequisites for Calculus in the same summer and joined Calculus at the third high school I transferred to. I've never had much, but I'm still squeezing water from stone with every chance I get.
TLDR: comeback story where reaching for oppurtunities helped me discover improve and my interests(of which I left a lot out to keep this from paragraph from dragging on too long).
DE:
10th: College Algebra, Trig/Precalc (both in summer)
11th: Statistics (Spring), Intro to Info Sci, Geology (both in summer)
12th (planned): Multi Var Calc, Differential Eqs, and Linear Algebra
AP:
10th: CSP (5)
11th: CSA, Calc BC, Spanish Lang, Chem
I was forced to self study CSA, Spanish, and Chem since the teachers either quit or didn't care to teach the material fast enough to be ready for the AP test. Chem was the worst cuz the teacher had only made it to unit 2 of 9 by the end of the first semester TwT
12th (planned): Gov, Lit, Physics 1
Awards: I only have sports related ones like CIF (swim and cross country) and recognition for placing in the top 5 for my swim events in my league.
Extracurriculars:
Church Volunteering: 1000+ hours total between two churches. Most of it was in the church I grew up in and I started doing it in January 2020 after the last guy stepped down. To keep in accordance with COVID policies once the pandemic kicked up, I'd stay for 3 services all day every sunday before things tapered into 2 services a day and eventually into the regular 1 service. I'd also be volunteering at the Friday mini-services every week and prepping things for the main service. I was essentially the IT guy for my church, being the first responder for issues with the church's hardware (ie projector and computer) and software (the propresenter used to control the preacher's slides and lyrics during the first part of the service). I was also the "guy in the chair" responsible for actually controlling which slides/lyrics would be displayed during services. Aside from the main services, I was regularly setting up events for all sorts of events in the church like helping my mom decorate for the kids' church camps or setting up and taking down supplies for conferences taking place at my church. After I moved away from that area and to a new church, I was recommended by my original pastor to my new one and I'm performing the same role, albeit differently since I'm rotating with other people every Sunday, but I'm still responsible for training new people and I've pushed the new church to improve it's software to propresenter from their software that hasn't been updated in years and I'll also be responsible for training people in using it. I'm also going to be responsible for doing lyrics + slides control during bigger district services which include people from all over the county. This is the longest EC to explain since it's the one I've invested the most into by a light-year and what I've made the biggest impact with.
Swim: 2 seasons (JV in 10th, Varsity in 11th, Captain in 12th)
XC: 1 Season [11th] (I was only with them for ~2 weeks because of the timing of my transfer to this high school, so I was only JV, but I still qualified for CIF and would've been varsity had I been able to join earlier)
CyberPatriot: Co-Captain of the team in it's first year and made it to the states round
Robotics: Programmer and team made it to Worlds (FRC)
Mathlete: smaller club I joined to participate in local competitions
Tutor: Mostly in Trig and Algebra 2
LOR: My Calc teacher is going to be most helpful for Caltech since she herself is a Caltech alumni and she'll be able to brag about me a fair bit since I was the only junior in her BC class (everyone else was a Senior and it took some convincing to my counselor to let me skip AB, which is what every other junior was doing for Calculus). I'm also going to try getting one from my pastor at the church I grew up in since he's been like a dad to me and he's a pretty big figure in the Apostolic Assembly (the national organization my church is a part and of which my pastor's been the president and is currently the secretary).
Schools: UCLA, USC, Caltech, MIT, CSULA, CSUB, CSULB

2023.06.10 23:11 Calm_External9554 Should I do anything about this?
Just took a work trip last week and carpooled with an executive and a lower level director. I am in a lower level position but work directly with these two for much of my work. During this trip, some inappropriate, rude, and offensive behavior was displayed by the executive. More specifically, the executive referenced another executive questioning the quality of my work and my general intelligence - I won’t quote directly but essentially calling me a “stupid expletive.” I was dumbfounded and speechless. I feel that I need to tell my supervisor and higher level boss and request to be removed from any work that involves this person. However, I am certain I would receive retaliation and I don’t even know if I could be transferred to another area. I don’t have any other jobs lined up at the moment but intend to start sending my resume ASAP. In the mean time, I just feel like I can’t accept that kind of treatment. I’m so offended I can’t even think straight.

2023.06.10 23:06 SweatshirtNath 🔮 War Of Eitr 🔮 Towny/RPG Server ☄️ Just launched! [SMP] {Java 1.19}{Community}{Towny}
War of Eitr has been an ongoing project for me for some time now. I've been looking for a way to revive players' love for community-driven towny servers while bringing in enough new content to keep the server interesting. That's what brought about War of Eitr, a Survival RPG towny server.
The server will be split into 3 realms, Towny, RPG & The War. Although currently, only the Towny world is live. Once we're happy with this we will continue to work on the other realms.
🏡 Towns
💵 Jobs
🐲 Dungeons
🗡️ Custom Items
🧙♂️ Classes
Towny This is the first realm and the one that will be open on launch is the Towny world, a relatively safe area where the main threats to players will be PvP from rival towns and rouge bandits. Players in the towny realm are free to mine, build anything from a small hamlet to a huge sprawling city and PvP anywhere they like.
MMORPG This is a custom world, to be built entirely by the team. It will focus on a few questlines that help to build on the lore of the War of Eitr. Quests will reward players with currency, items and special weapons to use in other realms. The world will reward exploration with hidden dungeons and side quests. This realm will be in ongoing development for the life of the server bringing players new items, areas, quests and challenges.
To ensure that the server launches as quickly as possible this will be put on hold, to begin with, and instead will be replaced with challenging instanced scripted dungeons. Dungeons will be a lot more practical to create and will give more replayability to players by giving randomized difficulty ensuring loot for each run. Dungeons will have dynamic difficulty to ensure that different group sizes can run these dungeons.
The War For now, our final realm and one that won't be seen on the server for a couple of updates. This is the server's war world. We will run time-based events on smaller prebuilt battlegrounds. Events will rotate between Town vs Town PvP battles, free-for-alls, PvE survival and many more. Participants and winners will receive unique rewards.
