My Theory on The Subject of Aliens

2023.03.26 13:43 rico6822 My Theory on The Subject of Aliens

Europa doesn't seem to have much of a sprawling civilization potential, as it is lacking forests to make some basic stuff for technological advancement the way we see when exploring alien ruins.
Moreover, Jove turns out to be the one causing Jovian Radiation to consume the moon, at the same time he congratulates you for beating the shit out of him and claims that while nobody will remember your sacrifice, he and his kind will.
Europa is NOT native to aliens we see here. It's a religious site. Jove and his "followers" (I guess) are encircled at The Eye of Europa. I'm guessing that red dot, which triggers the boss battle when destroyed was designed to averse with it's signals unintelligent life to come to this place, so another intelligent specie would find it. Among hatchable pet animals we have Cthulhu. It wouldn't be out of place if aliens designed such creature for us if they expected humans to come. In fact Cthulhu is an icon of a specific subgenre of horror, a "cosmic horror", which in addition to standard "space horror" or "sci-Fi horror" makes the entire point of humanity in the universe completely hopeless for us in the most pessimistic way possible and either we get deleted of all planes of existence for being humans or we cannot escape suffering at all. Lovecraft despised religion as a thing needed by lifeforms such as us to have a purpose in a universe, that doesn't even acknowledge our existence and was strongly against anthropocentrism. Jove acting like a religious cult leader either is parodying us or was observing humanity and saw our violence as a way of very deffinitive communication. He is a starfish alien but not an eldritch abomination. Even than he can operate on bizzare morality unlike our own that makes it difficult for both specie to have a common ground, even if he doesn't really have good intentions. Claiming his pride of your achievement is simply a way of establishing something that happens afterwards so you can stay encouraged.
As a result of the conflict, New Game+ triggers so the cicle can repeat. The game is a time anomaly, which is going to loop on it's own so denizen can suffer again until a fail will cause everyone to go extinct on the moon.
SCP: Containment Breach, another game by the creator of Barotrauma is based on a creepypasta, which too is a cosmic horror.
A lot of people misunderstand the genre, so here's a guide (not mine): https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CosmicHorrorStory

2023.03.26 13:42 hydra1280 limbo part 2

(part 1 https://www.reddit.com/worldbuilding/comments/10bjaph/limbo/)
From the great lands' vast sky, a power rose up, the 'Great Diamond', from an unremarkable rock of space that sat above limbo as one of its great wonders since everything else seemed to fall into its pull besides these moons. This moon would be basic, white with a fairly large size, The Great Diamond would hide on this moon as she created a race of women who would extract the life force from the earth to create gems, the name of the race who would come in all sorts of crystals. Each gem would be different from other gems unless they were of the same gem type which meant though they varied, this would be in more stylistic elements of the shaping of their bodies from their hole which would usually be fairly standard unless the job would be rushed. Using the lack of necessity on things such as air, water or food and virtually no need for base organic reproduction seeing as these gems were constructs of magically infused, condensed, light and rock. While the rest of the higher powers would be distracted from infighting or growing fat from peace and dominance, the gem empire would colonise the remaining 3 moons and other outer planetary bodies. This would all come crashing down when a glitch in the advanced systems occurred, causing the reveal of the gem empire which had amassed power far beyond the other races in the expansive world called limbo. In a panic, the empire would send its forces down and activate offensive protocols, thousands of ships would be unleashed in the first wave. Many powers would be eliminated and their races would be integrated or decimated, with the greatest odds of survival to escape to other powers. To combat the overwhelming power, the true might of the 'Will Of Man' would be shown to the entire world. In a gaping presentation of strength the 'Will Of Man' would use its power and rip apart the sky in holy light, the souls of man's greatest heroes from the 'Will Of Man' would be summoned which included unremembered or unremarkable humans who should the qualities of greatness. Bravery, righteousness, thoughtfulness and compassion were all shown within each soul as they, in their blazing forms, grew to enormous proportions and struck down the fleets that assailed Limbo.
Now with breathing room, man called together under the banner of humanity and began their counterattack. Thousands of different races would assail the new territories of the 'Great Diamond' as they would intercept communications and even achieved assaults on the gem empire's core worlds which were their outer solar civilisations. The union of races was empowering but unstable, the humans had an empty position within a matter of months as the 'Will Of Man' would be venerated while his children remained, put to slaughter. This fickle union would come undone however as man would rise up against the other races from other gods as they formed a fair and honest organisation under a unified empire. Instead of warring gods, they would assemble a pantheon as the state religion, under the rule of 'Deity Of Challenges', 'Prime Of Strength', 'Divine Ruler Of Games', 'Aquala, The God Of Waves', 'Goddess Of Friction' and 'Existence Of Hierarchy' with the 'Will Of Man' choosing to abstain. Yet he would still be present within the pantheon like a vanguard, one-man army, as the 'Will Of Man' would take vengeance against the races that wronged humans and gain notoriety throughout Limbo, assembling a justice cult in his honour. Ultimately, due to the overwhelming power of the 'Will Of Man', he would act as a double-edged sword, causing the 'Great Diamond' to join forces with the alliance of man which had been butchered from the 'Will Of Man'. But this would not stop the empire as the repentant 'Existence Of Hierarchy' would front military efforts with his followers and children. Using powerful attack legions of beast-men and organised forces of humans to confront most major challenges with more fortified positions being handled by forces like the children of the 'Prime Of Strength'. As the 'Deity Of Challenges' would send sects or nomads to wipe out encampments with the others contributing uniquely to military efforts but despite their uniqueness, all of the deities worked with great cohesion. Within a matter of years, the empire had become the major power and subjugated Limbo as the other races formed coalitions, unions and alliances. Meanwhile, the empire lived in great satisfaction as they endorsed equality and aid for all, acclimating territories from dictatorships and treating them with great care as even territories outside of the empire would be provided with aid and friendly behaviour. This would lead to a lot of deities joining the empire as territorial deities, deities who could become widespread and accepted into the pantheon but not connected to the higher echelons to keep out nefarious powers. But this admiration was not simply of deities as nations and people would commonly defect, making the empire rich with diversity as efforts to spread out populations across the empire were successful due to a desire to avoid mistreatment of other races.
The empire would run smoothly due to the deities as they would establish a grand system, the 'Deity Of Challenges' would spread the martial arts influence across the empire. Teaching cultivation techniques such as increasing strength, creating skin as hard as steel, aiding in handling various disabilities and dealing with most terminal diseases by using her children to have special adaptations to magic and QI that could be used to heal from poisons, gruesome damages and more. The 'Prime Of Strength' would create halls of proving where people would assemble to take on challenges such as defeating mountain eaters or proving great deals of endurance. As he would push the people to a better and healthier lifestyle as his land's bounty would be truly uncovered when creating the empire as the sense of power shifts caused the reproduction and power of the 'Prime Of Strengths' beasts to increase dramatically. Creating a great deal of meat and other great materials for the empire which also allowed the giants to live a more lucrative and decadent lifestyle. 'Divine Ruler Of Games' would be the most integral piece to the empire as it managed a great deal of the administration and governance along with always creating and innovating new types of games such as new park rides or game companies that aided the nation in creating extra revenue. the works of 'Divine Ruler Of Games' also included social services such as health care, mail service, firer fighters, humanitarian aid and more. This would often be seen through parks but 'Divine Ruler Of Games' would also leave his mark in amazing city designs or pedestals laced around the empire for small fun and rewards such as a pattern/memory game at a secluded waterfall, deep in the forest. But this should not degrade the work of other deities such as 'Aquala, The God Of Waves' who would handle oceanic-related disasters and sea fishing/trade like if the ocean needs to rehabilitate sea life or if the ocean needs to flow water into a chasm to allow villages access to water. 'Goddess Of Friction' was also very important as she would release high-tier and above, slime craft, into the empire instead of low-tier slime craft like when it was sold to the old human territory. This would drastically alter science and mechanisms as was known with the slimy mechanisms being used to revolutionise weapons of war, build homes and as aids in grand farming. Finally, there is the redeemer or as he is also known, 'Existence Of Hierarchy', the 'Existence Of Hierarchy' would become very useful in the empire as he would help create lush villages and cities that greatly incorporated plant and animal life. Along with boosting plant growth such as wheat crops along with using its caste system in a more productive way such as in the military or as its reformed design as a goodness meter where those who had a greater loyalty, faith and trust for the empire would be rewarded with privacy enabled. Meaning that this could not only help keep those who are loyal to the empire satisfied but also not cause potential problems with the amount of trust and faith from one person to another so as to allow a fostering of kind-ship before any disdain as those who had been granted power would also not be able to tell how high level they are. But this would all be overshadowed by the 'Will Of Man' who had gone from a vanguard of the gods to an eternal protector of life, giving up his conscious mind and body to bless the empire and its citizens with good fortune and ward off evil spirits. Creating many an event throughout the year, annually, such as the day of saints where the saints that had descended from the gem war and those made after, would come down in peaceful fashion and bestow greetings in a warm silence. Or other days such as the haunting which manifested the fears and anxieties of the empire's citizens to be confronted in their dreams with those with a more gentle mind having restraints so as to not cause psychological issues. Along with every citizen having their nightmares devour malevolent entities wishing to do harm like robbers or banshees with other holidays with a total of 13, including the haunting and the day of saints.

I was waiting for a Duna transfer window, so I monitored Dres' rings. I found so many more asteroids. Their orbits are so interconnected that they look like proper rings.

2023.03.26 12:47 ProfessorInMaths Bleach Captains and Vice-Captains if they were in the Avatar World

This is a short summary of how various Bleach characters could be fused into the Avatar universe, with regards to their powers and abilities, and how they would fit in the world of Avatar. Additionally, snippets about how the lore of the Bleach universe might fit in with the lore of the Avatar universe. Note that this is a fanwork and there are elements that I have changed slightly. Also this does allude to certain elements in the Thousand Year Blood War arc that have not been released in anime format.

Yamamoto

The most powerful firebender in recorded history whose strength surpassed the Avatar's. His unmatched prowess with flame allows him to not just produce vast quantities of fire, but also directly manipulate the volatile element (similar to how a waterbender bends water); additionally, he can control his inner flame to allow him to maintaining his mental and physical state (in a similar manner to how Kyoshi lived hundreds of years). He left the Fire Nation and founded the Soul Society during the reign of Fire Lord Yosor, during this time of great upheaval many people, from all nations flocked to the Soul Society, under the protection of the most powerful and dangerous warriors at the time. Since that day, the Soul Society has remained as a neutral fifth nation, despite many external attempts to "unite" it with both the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom.

Soi Fon

The Fon Clan were originally a group of Air Nomads who were captured and subjugated by the Shihoin Clan before the era of Avatar Szeto, when the Soul Society was founded the Shihoin Clan brought along the Fon Clan as their retainers. As the centuries pass nothing remains of the Fon's nomadic heritage other than their bending, with Soi Fon being one of the last remaining air benders and the 9th clan head. She utilises her bending to manipulate the air currents and pressure around her body, allowing her to move at speeds faster than the human eye can see. She carries a short blade on her back, and wears a black and gold gauntlet with a middle finger stinger; the stinger contains a poison which can kill with two stabs. Her most powerful technique involves encircling her body with a hyper-sonic vortex of air, once created she can maintain this vortex indefinitely.

Gin Ichimaru

An incredibly cunning earthbender; without warning he can rapidly move the ground under his opponents feet, which he uses to create openings to strike with his blade. However, his blade is where his true power lies, he claims that he has mastered metalbending a particular alloy which forms his blade. It appears as though he thins and stretches his blade allowing him to lunge and strike at opponents from great distances. However this is a lie, he has actually mastered bending a the dust of a rare substance, which is both extremely poisonous and capable of being compressed into a dense blade. During battle, he earthbends his blade expanding the dust at incredible speed to slice through his opponents before returning all of the substance to it's original blade form (to keep the poisonous nature of the blade a secret). The top-speed of his dust expansion technique is faster than the human eye can follow, however he only unleashes the true speed in the last moments of a strike, to keep his opponent's off-guard and guarantee a hit.

Unohana Retsu

The first and most brutal bloodbender in history, in every nation she was regarded as the most heinous villain alive, bringing slaughter and death wherever she went. In battle, her used a large curved blade to slice open her opponents, before draining the blood from their body through the newly formed wound; she would then use this new blood to create razor thin sweeping arcs of blood to carve through yet more opponents, thus repeating the cycle. Additionally, she used her bloodbending on herself, forcibly moving her body at incredible speeds to make her one of the deadliest swordsman in the world. However, as the decades passed (after the Soul Society was formed) the stories about this monster faded over time, eventually becoming myth and legend. This is because Unohana forsook her murderous ways and instead utilised her bloodbending with her natural waterbending healing to become one of the most powerful healers in the world. As a consequence over this mastery of healing and self-bloodbending Unohana has successfully extended her lifespan by hundreds of years and granted herself eternal youth.

Sosuke Aizen

A charismatic and intelligent waterbender who has completely mastered spirit bending and seeks to use this ability to transform himself beyond his present human body. As a water bender his control over the element is so fine that he can create illusions to manipulate his opponents. He controls the water vapour in the air to diffuse and reflect light to create a visual component to his illusions; he vibrates the water molecules in the air to produce pressure waves to either create false sounds or mask real sounds. However, it is his studies into the spirit realm and spirit bending are what make him exceptionally dangerous; Aizen came to the conclusion that there is no single spirit (other than Vaatu) which is stronger than Raava. Therefore, to surpass the Avatar he would need to forge a new spirit by amalgamating the souls of humans and lesser spirits. Through the process of creation, this forged spirits will would be subjugated by Aizen's own will, thus when he merges with the amalgam Aizen will retain his sense of self.

Byakuya Kuchiki

A calm and collected metalbender, who is renowned for his absolute control over the substance Cobalt. Cobalt is a light pink metal with a silvery white surface; the blade of the Kuchiki clan hereditary weapon is made from this substance. In battle, Byakuya separates his single blade into hundreds of razor thin slices that float around him, these blades have the appearance of cherry blossom petals dancing in an invisible breeze. He swarms his opponents with the petals, killing them through thousands of cuts, all the while using metalbending to maintain the edges of the blades. His skill with manipulating the metal is so great that is he capable of controlling and generating lightning using the magnetic properties of the metal. The Kuchiki clan are one of the founding bodies of the Soul Society, they were once a noble clan from the city of Tienhaishi, but fled as the city was razed to the ground by the vengeful spirit, General Old Iron. Several years ago, Byakuya defied his clan elders and married a refugee waterbender who was originally from beyond the Soul Society.

Sajin Komamura

A loyal and kind-hearted member of the Wolfman Clan, Koamura is regarded as one of the most powerful earthbenders in the world. His signature technique is to earthbend a colossal earthen golem, over three-hundred feet tall, which copies his movements. Among all mortal creatures, there is no other capable of moving that amount of earth for hours on end. The Wolfman Clan originated during the Era of Raava, and were humans who were cursed by spirits with a beastly appearance because of their sins in life. The clan has remained hidden for many years; however, a young Komamura left his clan to explore the wider world. However, he was deeply scarred by the times when he was spurned by humans for his appearance; forcing him to wear armour which covered his entire body. His travels eventually lead him to the Soul Society, where he was greeted and accepted by Yamamoto. Finally, with a place to call home, he became close friends with the blind-man Tōsen.

Shunsui Kyōraku

A laid-back and flamboyant swordsman, who merged with Kemurikage, a dark spirit of a grieving mother who lost their child to the violent warlord, Toz. Shunsui’s abilities are not elemental based, but instead derived from the spirits yearning for the lost days when her child would sit with her and play games. Shunsui can make children’s games a reality, through this he can conjure illusions, travel through shadows, and turn non-lethal blows deadly. He is originally from the Fire Nation, and traveled to the soul society when he was young, at the behest of his brother’s widow, the then current head of the Ise Clan. Through his deep connection with the dark spirits, Shunsui sealed away the Ise Clan’s legendary artifact to prevent anymore deaths. Shunsui remained in the Soul Society as steward of the Ise Clan artifact, training his spirit bending abilities under Yamamoto and mastering the skills of swordsmanship.

Kaname Tōsen

A blind earthbender who is a master of neutral jing, he can controls the vibrations of all earth and dust within his vicinity. His signature technique is to use his earthbending to grind the ground in the area to dust, then lift the dust into the air and hold it perfectly still. The dust forms a dome which blocks all light and the stillness of the particles means that sounds are dampened to nothing; thus rendinger all inside the dome blind and deaf. He even dampens his footsteps thus becoming invisible to those who sense using tremors in the ground. The airbourne dust becomes an extension of Tōsen’s senses, allowing him to feel the minute movements of his opponents in all directions. This ability can be used offensively, moving the dust particles rapidly to create high pitched resonating sounds and small shockwaves. He has dedicated his life to battling injustice and corruption, after his dearest friend, Kakyō, was murdered by her husband.

Tōshirō Hitsugaya

One of the most powerful waterbenders in the world, Hitsugaya was blessed by the great heavenly ice dragon Hyōrinmaru. Hitsugaya can control the water in the surrounding atmosphere, cooling the vapour to form fearsome dragons of ice and water. Hitsugaya’s immense power is eclipsed by both his intellect and potential, he utilised the principles of thermodynamics in conjunction with his bending, to form fire resistant barriers made from thin layers of ice separated by a vacuum. His greatest achievement is using his waterbending to lift and control a large set of ice wings which are connected to his back, allowing him to fly. Thus he is the Soul Societies most powerful aerial combatant. He was born in the Soul Society, and alongside his close friend Hinamori he was raised by his grandmother. But once she left to train her firebending, he found that his power was growing wild, and that it was hurting the ones closest to him. He began training as a way to gain control, help those around him, and protect the Soul Society from attacks.

Kenpachi Zaraki

The most dangerous non-bender in the world, similar to how the Avatar merged with Raava and became the embodiment of balance and harmony, Zaraki Kenpachi is a human who has merged with a nameless malevolent oni spirit, who is the embodiment of battle and slaughter. Through this union, Zaraki became stronger, faster and more durable than any other mortal alive, although the spirit could not reincarnate, he could slow the rate at which Zaraki aged. As Zaraki fights, he enters into a euphoric frenzy, merging closer with his spirit; the stronger the opponent the closer Zaraki merges with his spirit. The origins of this individual are unknown, even to himself, however he has wandered the world seeking a battle that will finally bring him joy. In the beginning of the Hundred Year War, Zaraki had made his way to the Soul Society, and finally found his fated opponent; Unohana Yachiru’s bloodbending enhancement allowed her to survive against Zaraki’s onslaught. However, as the battle progressed, he realised that if he were to win, then he would never again be able to experience the extasy of battle like this again. He subconsciously weakened the connection with his spirit and eventually lost that battle.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi

One of the most intelligent men in the world, Mayuri Kurotsuchi is an earthbender who has mastered the art of bending pure rare metals, such as gold. He travels with a golden sword and a large golden golem in the shape of an insect-like monster. Mayuri utilises the non-reactive nature of gold to contain plethora of chemicals and poison within his sword and golem, with each substance being confined within it’s own sealed golden compartment. Should he require a given amount of a pure chemical, he changes the porosity of the gold, so that it may emit the substance. If he requires a mixture of substances, he bends an empty vial within his golem and then siphons off chemicals from the other containers into this new vial to react together (using substances like platinum as a catalyst). He is widely regarded to be a sadistic monster, who holds no regard for human life. In his youth he trained under the legendary Shutara Senjumaru before being imprisoned for his horrific experiments. He was eventually released by Kisuke Urahara, for his technical mind.

Jūshirō Ukitake

A spiritual Firebender who was blessed by the Moon Spirit Tui and has mastered the rare ability to energy-bend. When Ukitake was young he developed a fatal lung disease, his parents prayed to every spirit they knew till eventually the spirit of the Moon answered their prayers. This blessing healed his lungs, turned his hair white, and allowed him to feel the ebb and flow of the energy around him, bending it as if it were water. Ukitake is able to bend the flames as if they were water, regardless if he produced them or not. Additionally, Ukitake is the progenitor of lightning redirection, a technique that would be passed down to the Dragon of the West, Iroh, when the general travelled to the Soul Society in the aftermath of the Siege of Ba Sing Se. Ukitake’s kind nature and unwavering belief in good, has allowed him to develop a connection to the spirit world, where he mastered the ability to manipulate spiritual energy. Through this he bonded with his long-time close friend Kyōraku.

Chōjirō Sasakibe

An exceptionally loyal Firebender who has served Yamamoto since the foundation of the Soul Society. Despite his rank and appearance, he is a deadly warrior who has mastered and the art of lightning bending, and pushed beyond the limits of what was originally thought possible. Utilising heat-bending in conjunction with his lightning, he is capable of summoning vast thunderbolts from the sky, eclipsing any lightning generated by a mortal. Additionally, through careful chi control and artful lightning manipulation, he has slowed his aging so that he may serve alongside his commander.

Marechiyo Ōmaeda

A large but crafty non-bender, Marechiyo Ōmaeda is descended from a long line of professional hitmen. Prior to the formation of the Soul Society, the Ōmaeda family were a small time bandit clan in, what is known today as, the Fire Nation. However, upon the defection of Yamamoto and the formation of the Soul Society, the Ōmaeda family prospered and profited in the ensuring war. Eventually, they would come to serve as another vassal house for the Shihoin clan, alongside the Fon clan. Marechiyo Ōmaeda is the heir to the family fortune, and currently serves under Soi Fon, much to her chagrin. Despite his appearance, he is an exceptionally fast combatant and a cunning fighter, utilising his opponents assumptions about his size to bludgeon them in the head with a massive spiked iron ball, which is his signature weapon. However, he is exceptionally cowardly, and will utilising smoke and tear gas bombs to facilitate his escape.

Izuru Kira

An introspective and tactical earthbender who utilises a family technique to energybend. The Kira family were descended from a lesser prince of the Earth Kingdom royal family; during the Wars of Secrets and Daggers, the patriarch was killed and the remaining family fled out of fear. Pleading their case before the sages and judges of the Soul Society, the family was allowed to settle within the protective walls and hold some amount of political power, befitting their former status. Izuru Kira has mastered the family technique of the “earthen crush” whereby the user imparts their earthen chi into an object that they touch, allowing them to bend the object or person directly downwards, crushing them. This powerful technique requires the bender touch the target, so that they may impart their chi.

Isane Kotetsu

The protégé of Unohana, this waterbender is second only to her master in terms of healing capabilities. Her grandfather was originally from the Southern Water Tribe and fled to the Soul Society during the raids, bringing with him the tribes scrolls of healing, which were passed down through the family. She and her sister were originally split during their brief time in the slums; however, fortune smiled upon Isane as she was reunited with her sister within the Soul Society. Unbenownest to the pair, Unohana sponsered both of their entries, and holds a genuine affection for Isane, something which the ancient bloodbender had never felt before.

Momo Hinamori

An exceptionally clever firebender who has mastered the art of altering the trajectory of her fire mid-flight. Similar to how energybenders utilise the connections between all living creatures to search, Hinamori can utilise those connections as pathways to channel her fire, giving her a dangerous degree of accuracy. She was born in the Soul Society, and alongside her close friend Tōshirō she was raised by her grandmother. However, inspired by the powerful benders who defended the Soul Society and fuelled by her desire to protect her friends, she left to begin her firebending training. Her focus on academics and on connections within energy bending is how she was introduced to Aizen, a well established defender of the Soul Society; she grew enamoured with him, which only encouraged her to pursue her firebending techniques further, so that she may protect her family alongside such a powerful figure.

Renji Abarai

Renji Abarai was born in the slums outside of the Soul Society, the areas that consist of the refugees and families who are awaiting judgement on if they may be granted citizenship. The soldiers who patrol these areas are purely to deter foreign invaders, resulting in a lawless sprawl of shanty towns. After Renji’s childhood companion, Rukia was adopted by one of the noble houses within the Soul Society, he began training in one of the nearby valleys, where he encountered a wild spirit. The jungle this spirit ruled over was burned to ash by the Fire Nation, and it was left aimless and wandering. Renji began to bond with the spirit and promised a better life for them, if the spirit bonded with him. After this union, Renji was able to gain citizenship within the Soul Society because he demonstrated his immense physical abilities, that had been enhanced through the union. After training with Zaraki, who possessed a similar spiritual nature, he came to serve Byakuya Kuchiki, the adopted older brother of his childhood companion Rukia.

Tetsuzaemon Iba

A dangerous non-bender who specialises in swordsmanship and hand to hand combat. Originally he was the leader of one of the many gangs who ruled over the slums, having inherited the position from his mother. However, after an Earth Kingdom raid devastated his hometown, he vowed to protect those under his care, and enlisted in the army of the Soul Society. Iba’s loyalty to the Soul Society and his Captain are well renowned; his skill as a fighter is exceptional as he is always training to master all forms of combat. Nanao Ise
Nanao Ise is the last of a long line of matrilineal priestesses, who oversaw and carried out rituals and rites related to spirits. To accomplish this task, the Ise clan passed down a sacred blade which can reflect energy in all forms. It is regarded as the pinnacle of energy bending, and it is through this scared blade that Nanao is training to become a master of energy bending. Her superior, Kyoraku, was a close friend of the family, and was entrusted with the blade until Nanao was of age to begin training. Her tutors are the aforementioned Kyōraku and the affable Ukitake; her personality is diametrically opposed to these two, she is a serious and pragmatic person, yet she remains respectful to her teachers in the spiritual arts.

Shūhei Hisagi

Shūhei Hisagi is one of the few air-benders within the bounds of the Soul Society, he is descended from monks who fled during Sozin’s attack on the temples. However, as a result of the air-bender purges, Hisagi learned nothing about air-bending philosophy nor the cultural roots. Despite this, he is a master air-bender who has developed his own philosophy on the balance between life and death. It is this understanding of balance, that drives his unique, and aggressive, air-bending techniques, which are focused on manipulating air currents around a pair of chained scythes. He is highly respected within the Soul Society, and is the managing editor of the largest newspaper within the Soul Society … despite his inability to write a popular article.

Rangiku Matsumoto

Rangiku Matsumoto is a gregarious and lively Earth-bender, who grew-up alongside Gin Ichimaru within the slums outside the Soul Society. To gain entry into the Soul Society she trained to become adept at the art of dust and ash bending, she moves these particles at high speed to cut through an opponent as easily as a sword. The elders of the Shiba clan, one of the founding clans of the Soul Society, sponsored her entry and assigned her to assist the, then, head of the clan. Her outgoing personality has made her popular within multiple circles, and she is close friends with many other of the defenders of the Soul Society including Hisagi and Kira.

Yachiru Kusajishi

Yachiru Kusajishi is a dark spirit, bound to the mortal realm, that took the form of a human child. Initially, this spirit was formless without thought or body; however, the area that this spirit inhabited became the site for a series of violent and bloody conflicts. Out of the bloodlust and suffering this spirit began to grow and bond with the creature that exhibited the greatest lust for battle: that being the future Kenpachi Zaraki. Eventually, this bond became strong enough to allow the spirit to manifest within the physical realm. This juvenile spirit was adopted by Zaraki, becoming a surrogate daughter. Through interaction with humans beyond violence, the spirit grew into a person in her own right; becoming a bubbly and excitable child. Despite this, she is a dangerous combatant; her physical nature as a spirit makes her both faster and stronger than any mortal. Through her upbringing she associated violence with playing, her favourite game is “dodge”, wherein she attacks an opponent to force them to dodge. However, the trick of this game is that she has the ability to hit an opponent both “before” and “after” the hit, making dodging nigh impossible.

Nemu Kurotsuchi

Similar to Yachiru, Nemu Kurotsuchi is a dark spirit bound to the mortal realm who took the form of a young woman. However, she was artificially created by the mad scientist Mayuri, who captured and tortured spirits, forcing them into subservience and then manifesting those in a homunculus body. Through many repeated attempts Mayuri succeeded in the creation of Nemu; however, his experiments could not be kept secret for long. Under direct orders from both the governing body of the Soul Society, and Yamamoto himself. Mayuri’s ability to energy-bend was sealed completely and Nemu was removed from his custody. She has taken residence with Kyoraku, Ukitake and Nanao, and is regaining the free will that was so cruelly taken from her. Similar to Yachiru, whom she shares a kindred bond with, Nemu is faster and stronger than any mortal and has an incredible durability as a result of her Homunculi body. Additionally, there are several chemicals and aspects of her mortal form, which are only known to Mayuri himself.

Rukia Kuchiki

Rukia Kuchiki is a powerful water-bender with an affinity for manipulating ice and snow. She was a refugee from a Northern Water Tribe outpost, and was carried to the slums outside the Soul Society by her sister, Hisana. In a desperate attempt for survival, Rukia’s sister abandoned her within the slums when she was less than a year old. Rukia grew up alongside Renji within these dangerous areas; however, Hisana had not forgotten about her and upon her deathbed Hisana made her husband, Byakuya, promise to bring Rukia to safety. After Byakuya fulfilled that promise, Rukia began training her waterbending and developed her own style, distinct from the traditional Northern Water Tribe form. This new form is to waterbending what the dancing dragons is to firebending, an elegant form which alters the fundamental principles. Rather than the fluidity and change, Rukia focused on the rigidity and stillness of water. This philosophy was inspired by her earthbending step-brother, and allows Rukia to form structures of super-cold ice at temperatures that are unnatural even by spirits.

2023.03.26 12:46 ProfessorInMaths Bleach Captains and Vice-Captains if they were in the Avatar World

2023.03.26 12:38 Quereto Moon or Rank?

Why do people always say uppelower moon, is this term used in the manga? I've only watched subbed anime and they always refer to these as ranks.

2023.03.26 12:33 Dryadversity A literal depiction of the dialectic (a concept in philosophy)

A literal depiction of the dialectic (a concept in philosophy)
Minor spoilers for the Placidusax fight.
Raya Lucaria's debate hall features a purple banner in the middle of its eastern wall.
https://preview.redd.it/m4tni3mm92qa1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ae18fa79022909af901e2f693d4843a2ee800d8
The first interpretation I heard for what the banner could mean was from greetthemoth, who suggested its purple coloring might signify the union of Rennala (blue) with Radagon (red). I later heard from Quelaag that the purple might be the result of a combination of the red and blue colors of the Cuckoo Knights. I believe she may have said something about the two cuckoos combining to form the Twinbird; in any case, I think this theory is likely. Further evidence for the cuckoo interpretation is the winged gargoyles on the left and right sides of the hall.
After thinking a bit more about this, I realized that the room the purple banner is found in, the debate hall, is probably important. A debate is an interchange between two sides, kind of like red and blue mixing to create purple. It's also a combative interaction, similar to how the moon and Erdtree are sometimes portrayed as opposing forces.
I developed a mental image of one side in the debate being represented by students wearing red, and the other side by students in blue. The product of the debate would be represented by violet, in between the opposing debate stands, and in the middle of the wall as the purple banner.
https://preview.redd.it/j1ilppbn92qa1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4284526c4bce375115d973831e9bb4edaa16ddb6
Finally, I concluded the significance goes one level further: the debate hall (and the purple banner) is also a representation of the dialectic, since the original meaning of the word was "debate".
The dialectic is an idea in philosophy that two forces or ideas combat each other to create a "synthesis" (this is the word used in the most popular terminology), which is usually described as a position somewhere between the two. Again, the word originally just meant a debate (and still does in Greek philosophy), but it took on increasingly abstract meanings in German Idealist philosophy, for example in the theories of Hegel and Fichte. In the context of Elden Ring, the synthesis is purple, the Twinbird, the union of Radagon and Rennala, and so on. There are many other examples besides these.
Since there is a somewhat adversarial connotation to the word, I think the idea of dialectics has something to do with the Crucible. This is because a crucible is, in one definition, a tool used to melt things and combine them; in another definition, it means a test of some kind. This might be related to why the violet banner also contains gold. Also, testing makes perfect sense in the setting of a debate hall, or schoolhouse classroom.
Another example of dialectics in Japanese media is the spiral and anti-spiral conflict in the anime Gurren Lagann. I'm mentioning this because spirals are also a common symbol in Elden Ring, and may also represent the dialectic, in which case Gurren Lagann may have been an influence. The theorist Crunchy noticed that spirals are commonly used in Elden Ring to make reference to the Crucible. The same might also be true for dialectics; or if not, maybe the double-helix, if this is considered a different symbol than the spiral, is the symbol which is meant to depict the dialectic. There is in fact a glintstone spell that uses the double helix shape, called "shard spiral", which is used by some sorcerers in Raya Lucaria. (There is also a spell used by the miners that creates a spiral drill, and drills are pretty much the most important symbol in Gurren Lagann.)
Furthermore, the Twinbird is associated with double-helices through its similarities with the twin-headed Placidusax, who is found with his necks crossing each other, in the start of a double-helix pattern.
shard spiral
One other thing I should mention is that all of the glintstone in Raya Lucaria is of the purple, gravity variety (which partly explains the alabaster lord). The floor of the debate hall is littered with purple glintstone. Given glintstone's connection to the intellect, this would further support the idea that a synthetic, holistic perspective, forged through disagreement and reconciliation, is what students and sorcerers should be aiming for.

2023.03.26 12:32 theillusionisover Pokémon games in an alternate timeline

Here is how Pokémon games could have differed in an alternate timeline in another universe:

November 2016: Pokémon Sun and Moon
• Pokémon Sun and Moon and USUM release as one game. To make it possible, the game scales back on gimmicks from USUM like Mantine Surfing, but we get Ultra Worlds, the Ultra Necrozma story, Team Rainbow Rocket and a bonus Zygarde story.
• Zygarde no longer appears in X/Y (MewTwo takes Zygarde's place in the cave).
• The climax of the game would merge USUM's with SM's story. After defeating a Lusamine merged with Nihilego, Necrozma appears appears and captures Solgaleo/Lunala, fusing with it. After being battled, it steals Alola's light and disappears into an Ultra Wormhole. The Ultra Recon Squad appear and you travel through Ultra Space to Ultra Megalopolis and face Necrozma.
• In the postgame, you face off against Team Rainbow Rocket, and unlock the ability to travel to Ultra Worlds freely.
• As for the Zygarde storyline, you will be given a cute Zygarde cell by a now older Dexio, who says he found it in Kalos (it still appears in anime) and believes it grows by absorbing either sun light (Pokémon Sun) or moon light (Pokémon Moon).
• While you can't battle with it, you can interact with and pat the Zygarde cell in Pokémon-Amie.
• In order to have it grow, you need to stand in spots around the region where the sun or moon light shine particularly bright. These aren't too hard to spot. Once you've absorbed enough light, the cell will grow into 10% forme. You need to absorb even more light for Zygarde 10% forme to be battle-ready.
• As Zygarde grows, Dexio will meet with you and monitor it. He notices it can regrow some dead plants in his lab. will also notice the growing bond between you and Zygarde. This mirrors the bond Lillie has with Cosmog.
• Once Zygarde reaches 50% forme (only possible in postgame) it will disappear to chase some Ultra Beasts that are disrupting the ecosystem. (These certain Ultra Beasts are only accessible via this storyline) You will fight with the aid of Zygarde, which will use the ecosystem around it to drain the Ultra Beast's powerful auras.
• Once you've defeated all the beasts, Zygarde can turn into its 100% forme. In its ultimate form, it will restore all the damage made to the ecosystem of Alola.
Other notes: To tie a loose end, an NPC mentions the unused train station in Couriway Town (Pokémon X and Y) is a remnant of a Kalos's old regional train network. It is there as a town landmark.

November 2017: Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eeevee
• Instead of another Sun and Moon game, which repeats a lot of the same story, Pokémon LGPE launches on Switch. It launches just a month after Mario Odyssey releases.

Apr 2018: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee Expansion Pass
Pokémon LGPE release a Johto expansion pass in Apr 2018. (Preorders begin in early January)
Depending on your game version, you can purchase either the Gold or Silver Pass.
You can access Johto via the Route 22 gate, even if you've just started LGPE.
• From the Route 22 gate, a driver takes you via car through a new path being constructed to Johto. You go the remainder of the way, through the cave gateway, until you reach New Bark Town.
• Lyra or Ethan will greet you. They have just moved into the previous main player's house. They want to introduce you to the professor. Prof. Elm asks you to deliver a Pokémon Egg to Mr. Pokémon. You discover the egg is rare, foreshadowing it will hatch into one of the Johto starters. (It will be the opposite type to your chosen Kanto starter)
• The other 2 Johto starters can be obtained in the Safari Zone later on.
• In the next city over, Cherrygrove City, rather than meeting a tour guide, Lyra/Ethan will touch base with you and hint the path to Mr. Pokémon's house.
• After meeting Mr. Pokémon, Lyra/Ethan appear and tell you heard Prof. Elm has been robbed, and they will escort you back to the lab. You will encounter rival Silver on the way, who will send Lyra/Ethan spinning away. You battle them, then go to the lab to name your rival and receive the egg from Prof. Elm. The storyline carries on quite similarly to HG/SS from this point forward.
• The Battle Frontier is replaced by the Master Tower, where you can request a battle with Master Trainers, all in one place.
• The Game Corner is replaced by a Style Shop in Goldenrod City, where you can buy a range of outfits. You are also gifted several new outfits with the Expansion Pass.
• A slight alteration, Giovanni's disappearance is more recent.
• You also encounter Red at Mt Silver instead of Indigo Plateau.
• The Safari Zone is now a place where a mix of Pokémon from Kanto and Johto can be battled. It is promoted as an ideal place to train Pokémon if you are taking on the Master Tower.
• You can catch either Ho-Oh or Lugia depending on your game pass.
• As there is no time jump, you can battle the new Elite Four members from HGSS - Will and and Karen - in the Master Tower.
• Once you've obtained the final badge, you can battle Lance in the Dragon's Den. You can also return to team up with Silver to battle Lance and Clair.
• Like in HGSS, Suicine is ultimately caught in Kanto. Suicine's location will appear on the map. You will encounter Euisine when you find it.

Nov 2018: Pokémon Sword and Shield
Pokémon Sword and Shield are announced in late February, a month after preorders of Pokémon LGPE begin. When the game is released, Game Freak clearly state that more Pokémon will become available in future updates.
• The graphics are similar, though use lighter, more smoothed out surfaces like in Scarlet/Violet.
• The Wild Area is more enjoyable to traverse. You can now slide down slopes, and explore a couple new caves.
• The Galarian Star Tournament is included in the base game, and unlocked after becoming the champion.
• In the postgame story, there will be a few cutscene showing the large Dynamax'd Pokémon rampaging around. You will be able to see the huge Pokémon in the distance as you approach the gym.
• Following Pokémon are not implemented in the Sword/Shield Expansion passes.

Nov 2019: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
• A more complete game preview is presented in February, including the Grand Underground, Secret Base Decorations, and a mission with Looker.
• The graphical style falls somewhere between LGPE and this timeline's BDSP. It is still faithful to the original world, while not being overly married to it (like repeating the same blocky trees). The visuals are built upon to make the world feel richer.
• The game bases its designs and storyline on D/P, rather than Platinum. e.g. the Galactic building is not so ostentatious like in Platinum, but low-key. Rather than trying to remake Platinum, it enhances D/P well enough that a Platinum remake isn't necessary.
• That being said, there is a new postgame quest involving Looker and Charon, who don't appear in the main story, and a more cinematic cutscene at Spear Pillar.
Spear Pillar Cutscene
where you see Cyrus's new world forming and the Lake Trio get into a skirmish with Dialga/ Palkia. They dodge Dialga/Palkia's mighty attacks, as we see people from around the region look up at the lightshow atop Mt. Coronet. (This fits in with the opening credits which shows lightning atop Mt. Coronet)
• Barry also stays by your side rather than running away.
• The cutscene furthermore builds up tension by having Dialga/Palkia about to strike you, when Mespirit launches a sneak attack, crumbling the Red Chain to ashes. Continuing the cinematic cutscene, Cyrus unleashes his rage and immediately begins the battle. As you battle him, the mighty Dialga/Palkia and you friends (including Dawn and Rowan) are seen watching in the background. Cyrus has more dialogue cut-ins during the battle, enraged that you are protecting a world that only lets people down.
Post - game Looker story
• Looker greets you at your house in the postgame, and tells you about remnants of Team Galactic hiding underground. You can either go to Snowpoint City to board the ferry or begin the Looker mission. You will help Looker track down a variety of Team Galactic bases hidden underground, which appear to be run by an evil scientist.
• Team Galactic are setting up machinery to monitor Mysterious Shards (which can be used to find legendary Pokémon at Ramanas Park), and are disturbing the wild Pokémon, as well as even kicking people out of their secret bases. You will also meet Mars and Jupiter underground, who agree to side with you to help thwart Charon's evil plans.
• A throwback to Platinum, Looker will disguise himself to corner and capture Charon.
Mars and Jupiter will move on, and Team Galactic will be done.
New Features
• Decorations appear in Secret Bases, replacing Statues.
• Certain kinds of Decorations can affect the kinds of Pokémon that appear in hide-aways.
Catching Giratina
• It's easier to obtain Origin Form Giratina - simply capture or defeat Giratina in Turnback Cave, and a Distortion Slate will drop.
• Take it to Ramanas Park, and enter the Distortion Room. The Distortion Room is now expanded into a passageway. The passageway shows off some cool visuals, as you make your way to Shadow Giratina and the orb.
Super Contests
• Pokémon now use their Moves during the contest. You can choose to perform to boost your points. As you hit the dance notes, your Pokémon moves in response, making Super Contests feel much more interactive.
• Fans will also gather in the hall after you win contests, including familiar faces.
Pokétch
• You can navigate up and down through apps.
Platinum teams
• All trainer teams, wild Pokémon and the Pokédex reflect the appearances in Pokémon Platinum. You can now battle Fantina as the third gym leader, or choose to skip past her to the next gym.
Battle Tower
• You can instantly battle familiar trainers from all around the region, including gym leaders and Stat trainers, by asking the attendant to request them. You don't need to build up a streak of 49 battles just to battle certain trainers (like Stat Trainers).
Following Pokémon
• All following Pokémon follow you closely, and larger Pokémon appear somewhat larger to reflect a large appearance.

2023.03.26 11:59 druidicfae Cozy Switch Games

Hi! I'm looking for games for the Switch which are similar to Wylde Flowers. It's so aesthetically pleasing to me and generally well-made in every other aspect.
I have played Harvest Moon DS, Harvest Moon Island of Happiness, Animal Crossing Wild World, all of which are not really what I'm looking for to be honest. I didn't finish any of those games, aside from getting married in Harvest Moon DS, because they just aren't my thing I guess.
I've also played and really liked Stardew Valley, and I do like aspects of My Time At Portia, but the style of MTAP's characters, the player character especially, and how you place furniture and decorate are just not my cup of tea at all. I do hope My Time At Sandrock will be a little better in the decorating aspect, but the character creation already looks a hundred times better!
I looked into Cat Café Manager, and Bear and Breakfast, but I did hear that B&B gets very repetitive quickly and that how you place furniture doesn't really matter at all, which bothers me. Any thoughts on Cat Café Manager? Spiritfarer is another game I've seen recommended in the cozy gaming community, but I'm someone who is easily moved to tears and don't really want to cry playing games, as there are enough ocassions for that IRL.
I know, I know I sound incredibly picky, but I do have quite high standards when it comes to gaming. I'm super looking forward to Haunted Chocolatier, Faefarm, Puff Pals Island Skies and Witchbrook, but who knows when those will come out.

2023.03.26 11:41 d2clon Looking for a tutorial for 2D skeleton/rigging/IK in Godot 4

I am trying to make my first 2D skeleton animation in Godot and I am confused by the tutorials I found. I am not sure if I am following the right one of not. I would like to have some confirmation from the community.
I found these ones:
The first 2 ones are the official documentation, but I don't understand the difference between them and I am not sure which one I have to follow. The third one is from GDQuest, and it is a video that is much easier for me to follow, but it is based on 3.1 and I am not sure if there have been changes since them.
Which one should I follow? do you know any other better than the above?
Update: yep, definitely the official doc is out of date. I am following both and my editor menus are different and I can not follow :/

2023.03.26 11:26 Doxxcunt I can't test games in roblox studio.

SOLVED - See edit
Problem
Every game I'm working on in studio refuses to actually start when I click the play button. Every time, a "Disconnected" error pops up with "There was a problem receiving data" and code 260 prompting me to reconnect, I do so, then I receive "Disconnected" again but with code 769, prompting a reconnect and so on. Every. Single. Time. Some games sort of start, some sounds play, but they all get this error. This has only been happening for the last few days. There are no issues at all with saving, publishing, or even collaborating on games in the editor.
What I have tried
I have tried multiple tutorials that supposedly fix this exact error code (260) by changing ipconfig and dns settings (cloudflare and google dns), but not a single one has done a thing. This problem does not happen on the roblox player, just in the test player in studio, but I have tried every combination of reinstalling both anyway to no avail. I have also tried some basic things, restarting, logout login, close open, fresh blank game, VPN. None of these changed a thing.
What may have caused it
Recently had new internet put in, the timing doesn't exactly line up with the issue happening, but it is possible. You might think "wow, new internet, that's obvious", but I have tried everything to do with the network, so unless you know something to do with roblox and internet settings, this might not be useful.

I hope I have provided enough information, all I want is to playtest my games. Any help would be extremely appreciated, thank you in advance!
Relevant Screenshots:
First error
After I press \"Reconnect\"
IMPORTANT EDIT: It is solved, it came down to a plugin I had installed, I am not under the impression it is malicious, but it may have been causing issues with how my games were set up.
