2023.06.10 22:41 AnythingGaming Songs ACTUALLY Like Midnight City by M83
Ok let me say I've explored virtually all the subreddits in existence on this topic before, and most all the songs suggested did not give me the same vibe at ALL. Here's the songs I have so far so hopefully you guys are able to see what I mean and suggest songs with this energy!
"Midnight City" by M83 "Safe And Sound" by Capital Cities "Alive" by Empire of the Sun "Sleepwalking" The Chain Gang of 1974 "Late Night" by Odesza (This one is probably my favorite song of all time) "We Come Running" by Youngblood Hawke "Kids" by MGMT "Shooting Stars" by Bag Raiders "Young Blood" by The Naked And Famous "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd "The Difference" by Flume, Toro y Moi "Sometimes" by Miami Horror
Need something a little more "hype" and upbeat, not a huge intro. Something you would be totally fine to drive fast to. Really one of the only songs I’ve found that gave me the same energy almost exactly is “Sleepwalking” by The Chain Gang of 1974. So if you’re having trouble with the vibe I’m going for listen to that and it might help!
Thanks so much!
Thank you for any suggestions, no pressure!

2023.06.10 22:39 drgooseberry micro aggression to want to speak to someone in spanish?
Hi I think this may be the right community to ask this but let me know if there’s a more appropriate one. Basically, I speak english and spanish fluently because of my british/spanish background. having lived in both countries, i’ve developed a really good spanish radar. i can recognise a spaniard just by looking at them, let alone hearing them. it’s always a pleasant surprise when i break into spanish, and we often bond over it. but my question focuses on speaking to latinos from the US in spanish. I have been to the US twice in my life and obviously came across many latinos. because of my british accent, you would never tell that i spoke spanish, but a lot of the time i can tell when someone speaks spanish (whether it’s interacting with a stranger, with someone working in retail/hospitality, etc) either by their accent or because i’ve heard them speak spanish to their colleagues or others. sometimes me responding to them in spanish has been met with appreciation but other times i can tell from their faces and the way they persevere in english that they don’t appreciate it. is it because i’m white/ speak european spanish? is this considered a micro aggression on my part? is there a reason they don’t want to speak spanish back? all genuine questions.

2023.06.10 22:38 xocto2 In solidarity with those affected by Reddit's recent API changes, /r/MID will be temporarily going dark for 48 hours beginning June 12
TL;DR Reddit
recently announced onerous API changes that have caused the closure of several third-party apps and denied important accessibility features to with visual impairments, among other concerning developments. In response to this
several thousands of subreddits have chosen to temporarily go dark to protest. We will do the same beginning the start of June 12 ET at midnight and ending 48 hours later in the interest of solidarity.
Hi everyone. If you're not already aware, Reddit
recently introduced changes to API pricing which have
killed off third-party Reddit apps for mobile devices, such as Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Narwhal and Bacon Reader. Even if you don't use these apps, you will likely still have reasons to be concerned about the effects of such a change. Visually-impaired and blind users often rely on their accessibility features, not present in the official app or mobile web. Many moderators rely on the toolsets they provide to keep communities free of spam and functioning effectively. And broadly, while this change only concerns mobile apps, it marks a troubling shift away from the allowances for our ability to customize our experience on this site, whether you use the old reddit interface on desktop, Reddit Enhancement Suite or any of various common enhancements. We should be able to have the confidence that Reddit will not wreck the tools we've come to rely on when they become inconvenient for administration—right now, whatever reassurances are made, we can't know that.
An
open letter was released calling attention to these issues, and in the interests of damage control Reddit staff has attempted to assuage community concerns with little success. These responses are
simply insufficient and have unfortunately done a lot to bring us to this point. In solidarity with other communities, MID will temporarily go dark beginning the start of June 12 midnight ET, and lasting 48 hours thereafter.
Our community is objectively tiny and not very high stakes, but being this is a very small, temporary gesture on our part we felt it important to register our discontent towards site policy which seems increasingly unconcerned with and contemptuous towards the needs and of its userbase. We appreciate your understanding and should reiterate this is simply a temporary reluctant measure for a just cause—regular MID access will resume shortly and it shouldn't affect your experience much.
Fangz,

2023.06.10 22:38 MarzipanKindly964 AITA for not letting my SIL move in?
Excuse my grammar, as English is not my native language.
My (36F) husbands (26M) sister has an unknown disease in which part of her intestines are dying out. The disease has no name and is untreatable, there are not enough people around the world with similar symptoms, so research is non-existing and not interesting enough taking in account the number of people who could benefit.
15 years ago, when she got sick, her life expectancy was estimated at 1 year. She has been in and out of the hospital more times than we can count and every hospitalization was terrifying because it is always a close call. Since this year, the doctors made the decision not to treat her any further, all they do is pain relief.
My relationship with his sick sister is great, I consider her to be my friend. We are in regular contact. She is the mother to a 7-year-old girl, divorced from the kid's father (3 years ago) and was until recently in a relationship with a great guy.
Basically, she fucked up. She had an entire secret life based of a TikTok originated friend group. She had multiple, real life, affairs with members of that friend group. She told them stories that weren't true or wildly exaggerated. The friend group has spend (lots of) money on her making memories with her kid, based on her stories. Well, the truth came out and this not so friendly TikTok group has visited her house and threatened, beaten and extorted her (now ex)boyfriend. Told him about everything etc. He kicked her out, mainly because he's scared they could come back, but also.. she cheated on him, many, many times. My husband and I have also received phone calls, visits (we didn't open the door) and threats.
I can imagine that being 30 and dying could make you do stupid things, I do not judge her for the things she did. I'm honest with her about how stupid it was, but she didn't do anything to me, so I don't see the need to be angry.
Her mom will not let her live with her, as her moms' boyfriend is threatening to leave if she takes her daughter in. Her brother lives in a tiny studio apartment, he doesn't have any room, but also he's fuming about the situation and feels like his sister has personally and deliberately endangered him.
So, my husband and I remain. We have a 4-year-old son and a newborn daughter. We don't have any rooms left apart from the attic (which are very livible in our country).
There is no indication of how long it would take, but since she has little to no income and there is a housing crisis, it could take years. Years in which our children will experience her illness very closely, the unbearable pain, the ambulance pick-up and perhaps even her death in our home.
We are torn between what we want and what we think we should do, as his family is also pressuring us to let them move in.
So, Reddit, AITA (or we) if we do not let her move in and cause her to become homeless and potentially lose shared custody of her kid?

2023.06.10 22:36 Tervia Should /r/evnova join the blackout in protest of Reddit's API changes?
tl;dr Reddit's shutting down third party apps at the expense of usability and in the name of profit, and is acting like the Bureau in the process. Should we join the sitewide blackout starting on June 12th, be it for 48 hours or indefinitely, to pressure reddit to rescind these changes so that third party apps may continue? Hiya,
As you're probably aware, many subreddits will be shutting down on June 12th through the 14th in protest of recent API changes announced by Reddit. These will charge relatively high rates above a certain threshold, similar to Twitter, and would have the effect of killing major third party Reddit apps. Reddit is not obligated to run features at cost, of course. And if the API is a financial burden, then it seems appropriate to have larger users share the burden. But charging rates that would be likely be several times in excess of what the average user brings Reddit in ad revenue, while forbidding third party apps from running ads of their own, makes it clear that they do not want to share the financial load. They want to kill competition to their official app. People who use third party mobile apps trust their app of choice over the official one for better user experience, mod tools, or accessibility features, and the official one demands much more of your personal data. The official reddit app does not play nice with screen readers on iOS, so those who are visually impaired have to rely on third party reddit apps instead. Even if you don't use a third party app, there's a good chance that a poster or commenter you liked does. One of the third party apps, Apollo, even got a name drop and other shoutouts by Apple in their latest Worldwide Developer Conference keynote, To lose these apps would be a loss to the community.
Reddit's "PR" Campaign
In the process to rolling this out, Reddit has not enkindled much, if any, goodwill, I'd argue. They've gone to blame the developer of iOS third party app Apollo of "excessive" API overuse despite staying within currently sanctioned limits. They have accused the same app developer of "threatening" reddit:
Steve (Steve Huffman, i.e. spez, Reddit CEO) : "Apollo threatened us, said they’ll “make it easy” if Reddit gave them $10 million."
Steve: "This guy behind the scenes is coercing us. He's threatening us."
Even after Reddit admitted on a recorded phone call that said perception was a misunderstanding:
Christian Selig (i.e. iamthatis, Apollo app developer): "I said 'If you want Apollo to go quiet'. Like in terms of- I would say it's quite loud in terms of its API usage."
Reddit: "Oh. Go quiet as in that. Okay, got it. Got it. Sorry."
Reddit: "That's a complete misinterpretation on my end. I apologize. I apologize immediately."
And then accused the same developer of gaslighting the community... with no evidence presented:
Steve: His “joke” is the least of our issues. His behavior and communications with us has been all over the place—saying one thing to us while saying something completely different externally; recording and leaking a private phone call—to the point where I don’t know how we could do business with him.
Christian: Please feel free to give examples where I said something differently in public versus what I said to you. I give you full permission.
It would have honestly felt better if they were just announcing that they were killing third party app access outright. But instead, we've been presented with a pricing structure that looks like it was meant specifically to kill third party apps, them acting like that isn't, and accusing third party app devs of being incompetent instead of asking themselves why others would want to use apps that aren't theirs in the first place. spez's latest AMA yesterday is only more salt in the wound, offering only token concessions so that a few accessibility-focused third party apps can continue unharmed, while other third party apps have announced their shutdowns because of these changes:
Apollo (iOS app): Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️
Reddit is Fun (Android app): RIF will shut down on June 30, 2023, in response to Reddit's API changes
Sync for Reddit (Android app): Sync will shut down on June 30, 2023
Relay for Reddit (Android app): The pricing is prohibitively expensive and it cannot be ad supported. And, even if you paid a subscription fee of several dollars a month to continue to use Relay, you still wouldn't have access to any NSFW content in it. My opinion is that they want third party apps gone despite saying otherwise.
The Bigger Picture
And these changes are not being done in a vacuum. Reddit has made other changes to take features away from this site and what people have built on top of it. Namely:
Spez said in the latest AMA that old.reddit, the original desktop website for reddit, isn't going away. Then again, Spez also said years ago that "The API isn't going anywhere", and while it isn't going away, it is going towards places that will be worse for us all. That, combined with a list of broken promises, as compiled by the mods of /AskHistorians, makes Reddit's word as solid as Drop Bear Repellent is effective, in my eyes (though Reddit has been making improvements, in fairness).
Should we do something in response to this?
Now, that brings things to this sub.
/evnova is a very niche subreddit. While new reddit is happy to claim we are within the top 20% of subreddits in size, we are ultimately about a 20+ year old series of abandonware single player games. Modders and wiki editors like SharkyNebula and developers like Peter Cartwright with Cosmic Frontier: Override keep this series alive, but things are generally quiet for the most part.
Over 4,000 subreddits have announced some form of shutdown in protest of Reddit's API changes. Most people on this website probably don't know this subreddit even exists, but together with several default subs, I am open to joining as a means to show that we are willing to sacrifice our place here in the hopes that the collective pressure with other subs will compel reddit to revise or rescind these changes, so that major third party apps may continue to exist and that their users - members of all the communities around us - may continue to enjoy them. As a site dependent on user content and volunteer moderation, Reddit is nothing without its userbase, and with a show of protest and maybe some bad press, perhaps Reddit will change their mind. If it doesn't work, then, well, it'll beat doing nothing and having it happen anyways, and I guess that'll shows how much reddit values you, the user. And with comments from the CEO like:
We’ll continue to be profit-driven until profits arrive. Unlike some of the 3P apps, we are not profitable.
If this goes through unabated, what feature will reddit put on the chopping block next?
Now, with all this wall of text said, I have said many times that I am an absentee mod here. I do not believe that I have the authority to unilaterally shut down the subreddit. So I come here to ask you, the memberbase: Should we join the subreddit blackout, be it for 48 hours or indefinitely until Reddit backtracks on their changes and allows major 3rd party apps to continue?
Please leave your feedback here. A decision will be made in no more than 24 hours based on what you think and say.
Thank you,
Tervia

2023.06.10 22:36 ettleeevosarpcpivi Manchester City ARE Lance Armstrong and nobody likes a cheat
| Best team in the sport? They won the PL, FA Cup, now the looks of it..Champions League (I sure hope not) Why? Because an integral piece of the machine's foundation is their CHEATING. I KNOW THIS IS OLD NEWS BUT THEY PISS ME OFF.. In 2008, the club had been bought by the Abu Dhabi ruling family; it was suddenly fueled by limitless petrostate wealth. But shortly thereafter, it realized that European soccer’s new spending limits, dubbed Financial Fair Play (FFP), would impede the owners’ plan to transform City into an EPL and Champions League contender. So they apparently devised a scheme to circumnavigate the rules. I can't stand teams who monopolize the best of players/managers. And they denied it all! Their success wasn't built on grit, it was built on underhanded means and how do their fans be okay with this level of cheating? submitted by ettleeevosarpcpivi to PremierLeague [link] [comments] |

2023.06.10 22:32 KapeRaj First gen college student looking for advice!
Hello. I’m going to be a senior in a 3+2 graduate program at a private institution, for a MA in occupational therapy. I did my first year at a community college for a variety of reasons but ultimately had to take out no loans. My second year I transferred in early large due to sports but also the educational experience was safer post pandemic. I currently sit at 13k in federal loan and 26k in private loans. I love my family and the sacrifices they’ve made to put me in the position to go to college, but I don’t think I’ve been educated the best financially. From reading from the sub it looks like a PLUS student loan is almost always better than private loans, is this truly the case. My parents are supportive but even I don’t know how I feel having loans in their name. I also read a PSLF is a great path to choice if you plan on working for the government in some way. I do plan to work in the pediatric setting but not school based. If it meant better financial security I could do school based but ultimately Early intervention is where I want to end of permanently. My first federal repayment due date is due before I graduate with my MA, how can I change it for it to be after I graduate? A new grad can expect to make 70kish but that shoot up depending on setting.

2023.06.10 22:32 suzie_bol What can I do with being extremely tired all the time?
I (19F) struggle with being tired all the time. I wake up tired, I can force myself to do something but again at 2pm I feel like it's midnight and I'm fully exhausted. I drink one or two cups of coffee a day, get plenty of sleep (at least 8hrs) and a balanced sleep schedule (I go to bed and wake up at the same time, +- half an hour depending on the day). I tried cutting out caffeine, doing more exercise, giving myself a day off from studying (can't do that so much in med school) but nothing helps. I have no trouble falling asleep in the evening and I try not to nap in the day. Today I opened my books in the morning to study but after 5 minutes I literally couldn't concentrate and felt like taking a nap. My memory is shit as well. Sorry for the rant but I'm tired of waking up exhausted (no pun intended).
I'd be thankful for any advice
