Is it true that I shouldn't wear shorts in Panama?

2023.06.10 17:48 CommercialSilver7971 Is it true that I shouldn't wear shorts in Panama?

Hi everyone! I'm flying to Panama in a few days for vacation and will be spending a week in Panama City and I'm figuring out what to pack.
From what I've read online, it seems shorts generally aren't considered appropriate for men to wear in Panama City. Is that true? If it is, what do you recommend that I pack?
Thanks!

2023.06.10 17:47 waiting_for_OP Is 3 weeks enough time to appreciate California? I’m from the UK and will be doing a solo road trip in May 2024.

Is 3 weeks enough time to appreciate California? I'm from the UK and will be doing a solo road trip in May 2024, here's my route:
I'll be heading to LA from London, hiring a car for a month and doing this route. I fly into LA on May 1st 2024:
LA > Joshua Tree > Death Valley > Lake Tahoe > Yosemite > San Francisco > Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur > Santa Barbara > LA.
Here's a map to show exactly the route for each leg of the trip: Link
I thought this is a good mix of sights as you get to explore the natural beauty of California (Pacific Coast Highway, Big Sur, Carmel, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, The Deserts, Eastern Sierras, etc.) but then you also get good exposure to the cities and towns like LA, SF, Santa Barbara, etc.
Here's how much time I plan on spending in each place total:
LA - 2 nights - (1 day at beginning of trip and 1 day at end when leaving) (airbnb)
Joshua Tree - 3 nights - (airbnb)
Death Valley - 1 night - (The Inn Hotel)
Lake Tahoe - 3 nights - (airbnb)
Yosemite - 3 nights - (Tent Cabin onsite Curry Village)
San Francisco - 1 night - (hotel with secure car parking/airbnb with parking)
Carmel - 3 nights - (airbnb)
Big Sur - 1 night - (The Madonna Inn)
Santa Barbara - 2 nights - (airbnb)
Here's a rough itinerary for the 21 days, including 1 buffer day: Link
Is this enough time to appreciate each place, or do I need to remove some places because I'm trying to do too much in the time-frame? Anything you would cut or add? Thank you

2023.06.10 17:21 Fall-of-Enosis We finally finished our campaign after 4.5 years. Together.

Just wanted to share this with ya'll as this was something that was very special to all of us.
Our campaign has been running pretty strong for the past 4.5 years, with us playing over Fantasy Grounds every other Saturday. The party consisted of myself Playing Rorik Ironfist, a one armed Dwarven Pugilist, Dibble Dabblestone, a Gnomish ADHD Artificer, Tharic, a half elven multiclass Servant of Mystra (mostly Pally/Cleric) and Fedhin, a warforged (robot more or less) wild magic Barb. The campaign started at level 1 and we ended at 20.
All of us players actually work at the same place and have known each other for many years. But our DM, (name changed for Privacy) Mark and I met first on Xbox nearly ten years ago through his brother when he randomly dragged him into a Crota's End Raid on Destiny. Both are Australian, but Mark lives on the East Coast as he is a professional actor. Spends most of his time in theater. But also has done some voice acting in games and a few smaller films.
Over the course of 4.5 years Mark weaved for us literally the best campaign I have ever played in DnD. It was 100% homebrew with the most vibrant cast of NPC's ever, spanning over most of the Moonshae Isles where it took place. We started out on a lowly fishing ship, barely knowing one another. We fought Goblins, saving the Moonwells, protected Kingdoms. We tavelled to the Fey Wilds asking for help on the side of the road, while a bunch of Fey ignored us. We made a quick enemy of an Arch Fey named "Sadereal" whom Dibbel immediately wrote a song about called "Sadereal's a dick". We "befriended" a Green Dragon. We were sucked into a bottle where we lived in a desert until we could escape. We found ourselves on a space faring ship, The Argent Traveler, making more friends of the crew along the way. We made close friends of William, the proprietor "Williams Wonder Emporium", who was always happy to invite us into his home/shop for a cup of tea and a chat about adventure. We generally over-payed Tanka, the kind and mostly reserved Firbolg owner and bartender of "The Ivy Rose", where we would always sit upstairs and drink in our booth to chat about our next steps. This is where Dibble also found a flyer an upcoming Dinosaur carnival. The entire city showed up to watch the dinosaur ships dock, but all hell broke loose when we found that they were out of their pens with all the crew massacred. We had to track down a bunch of Dinosaurs running amok! This is when Rorik succesfully grappled a T-Rex! (well TBH he grappled a TON of things). Rorik found out about his Long lost family (he was Born in Waterdeep, a beggar, thinking he was tossed out due to his misshapen arm) the Lightrocks. We travelled to White Rock, the largest Dwarven settlement only to find that most of my clan was lost, but a good amount were still holding on. We took back the mines from an evil Beholder named Xualaxisk, who was the one that bit off Rorik's arm as a child. Rorik plunged his fist into the eye and had William fashion a new Ironfist out of it. Dibbel grew close to another smart Gnome named Layla and she helped him make new special ammunition for his rifle "Duchess".
But some evil was set to take over the entire Moonshaes as well as Toril. All this crazyness was coming to a head and we had to stop it. "The Onyx Empress" was behind all of this. All of our friends we made along the way were rallying together, and we found a relic that would allow us to meet the Onyx Empress in a pocket plane.
But months before all this happened, Mark told us that we wouldn't finish the campaign.
At least not over Fantasy Grounds.
He told us that for the last session he wanted to fly out from the East Coast so we could finish the campaign. Together. In the same room.
This was obviously amazing. Not only would I get to meet a good friend whom I had never met in real life, but we would be together when we finshed this story that was so important to all of us. We had a few months to prepare while we contiued to play over FG. We rented an AirBNB on Oregon Coast. Planned Food. We all ordered custom Minis from Hero Forge, as Mark was already painting Minis and creating terrain for the final battle/session.
We knew that we wanted to do something special for Mark. Get him a gift. Something to remember this wonderful journey he took us on. We eventually settled on a party portrait. I contacted MANY artists on Reddit and eventually settled on u/Weeeizard aka Isabell. I asked her to create a drawing of all of our characters, together in the Ivy Rose, but with one extra person there. Mark. Retelling us his stories. Isabell was awesome throughout the entire process. Professional, on time, and never complained if I needed changes done to the characters. She understood how important all of this was to us. We spent four wonderful days together at a rented house on the Oregon coast being nerds. One of which was a 7 hour session where we faced off against our BBEG, The Onyx Empress, with wonderful terrain and gorgeous minis hand painted by the DM we cherish so much. We barely survived only to have the BBEG implode sucking Tharic (the guy toying with the silver flame) in immediately killing him, but sending him back into the hands of his God, Mystra. This is a GOOD death for Tharic. He only ever wanted serve his mistress and was happy to do so to bring balance to Toril. Dibbel was saved barely as he was out of the AOE. The rest of us survived and ended the campaign going our separate ways. Dibbel (the gnome) and Phedin (the warforged) are returning to Caer Callidyrr (the main city in the Moonshae Isles) to help rebuild the city after the destruction the BBEG had brought. Rorik (my character, the tattooed Dwarf) is returning to his clan and family, that he only recently realized were still alive. There is a teleportation circle available so he can go and visit his friends in Caer Callidyrr when he needs.
We presented the art to Mark after the last session and he LOVED it. We all teared up a bit together with him and embraced. He was so greatful for the memories that had now been immotalized.
We finished the weekend, by chilling on the beach, playing a bunch of board games, probably drinking too much and also watching the DnD movie together.
Thanks for reading my wall of text. This was so special for us, and I hope you all have a wonderful campaign/DM out there for yourselves! It's so nice to be able to share the game we love so much with one another.
Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/eGL53A0
PS: We're starting a new campaign in a couple of weeks with Tharic's player as DM and Mark playing as a PC!
Here's Isabell's webpage if you're curious on more of her art: https://www.isabellbartnicki.art/links
Also many thanks to u/SterlingVermin for the Pugilist. Rorik was a blast to play and will probably be one of my favourite characters ever. Although me and my DM had to nerf the class a bit in the later levels.
TLDR: We played a 1-20 homebrew campaign over 4.5 years on FG with a DM I had known for a decade but never met. He flew in for the final session so we could play together in the same room. We commissioned some dope art that he loves. It was a wonderful weekend for us and we're starting a new campaign soon!

2023.06.10 16:21 bateleark Help me decide!

Help me decide how/when to take two trips!
We are planning a trip to Argentina for 2 weeks and a trip to the Caribbean (likely Antigua) for a week. We can’t figure out when is the best time to go to each and how to split them up given some constraints and wanting to maximize good weather in both places. Your thoughts would certainly help!
Argentina: we want to visit Buenos Aires, with a day trip to Colonia, iguazu falls, and Mendoza/salta. We plan to fly between the cities to maximize time. We would like decent weather and not too huge of crowds in Mendoza (we’re into wine and want to hit a lot of places). We will want two weekends in argentina so we can use less days off from work.
Caribbean: 5-7 days in Antigua (but open to other places) at a resort to be beach bums. We just prefer small boutique resorts with a la carte dining with just a few restaurants and no need to wake up early to reserve spots on the beach or pool.
Background: we cannot take any trips prior to September 2023 because of the days needed for either trip. We have a wedding the first weekend in October (October 6) and the first weekend in November (November 3-4). We will also likely be traveling for thanksgiving (November 20-27). We have a young child so we want to be home for Halloween (October 31) and can’t travel over Christmas but before and after is fair game. Travel is taking place from Atlanta. We can leave mid week doesn’t matter to us.
Wants: we don’t want to have a very busy travel season where we are constantly on the move because of the young child and our obligations. We want to have good weather in the Caribbean to enjoy the beach and Argentina. Ideally 4-6 months between the trips is best in order to complete work obligations.
Our original thought was Caribbean in October 2023 and argentina in February or March 2024 however we forgot hurricane season is until November and October can bring lots of rain. We really do not want to be stuck in a room for that or worse have our trip screwed because of hurricane. Just trying to figure out what may be best.
Appreciate any of your suggestions!

2023.06.10 16:02 Timely-Elk8291 Trip report: Geezer first-timers--May 8-June 5. Last of 3 parts: Tokyo, Nikko, Kamakura

For independent western travelers, Japan demands more planning than, say, a trip through Europe. But the corresponding rewards are huge. And you absolutely don't need to hire a guide, so long as you do basic homework (which is half the fun of travel, anyway).
This is the last of three reports from our recent four-week journey, covering ten nights in Tokyo, one in Nikko and three in Kamakura.
HIGHLIGHTS
Tokyo--Nippon Professional Baseball at Tokyo Dome; May Grand Sumo tournament, Hamarikyu garden; Tuna auction
Nikko--Toshugo shrine
Kamakura--Sunset spectacle at a seaside park
TOKYO, Monday 5/22
For this 7-night leg, we chose Park Hotel Tokyo (the top floors of the Shiodome Media Tower; $208/night with breakfast). The lobby is on the 25th floor, requiring separate elevator rides to reach your room. Access to subways is a mixed bag (Shiodome Station is next door; more useful Shimbashi is a longer walk). There were far more Americans than our other hotels, and the ample breakfast buffet wasn't as fabulous, either (an admittedly high bar). On the other hand, the area teems with great, affordable places to eat. Our room had something we'd never experienced: a fog-free bathroom mirror (the new must-have!). And when we opened the curtains of our 28th floor room in the morning, there was Fuji in all her glory, an unforgettable vista. What more could you want?
TOKYO, Tuesday 5/23
Our first stop on a drizzly day was the Imperial Palace grounds, last of our highly recommended Imperial Household Agency tours. The adjacent East Garden, open to all, is worth seeing, too.
After lunch, we checked out the nearby National Museum of Modern Art. Kudos to management for allowing photography. The highlights room on the top floor is a great survey, and if you're short on time you could skip the rest, unless a special exhibition piques your interest.
We caught a fantastic show about Tokugawa Ieyasu at the private Mitsui Memorial Museum--the best single exhibition we saw. Unfortunately, it closes tomorrow, June 11; but that's a place you might keep an eye on.
TOKYO, Wednesday 5/24
We visited Senso-ji first thing. We liked it so much we went back a few nights later to see it lit up. Either way, it's a must.
Lunch was at Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku, a welcoming place that's been dishing up made-to-order onigiri for almost 70 years. It's a Bib Gourmand. Show up just before 11 am to avoid a wait; otherwise, you'll be given a time to return for a seat.
We went to Tokyo Dome to catch a Yomiuri Giants game, stopping off first at the adjacent, very worthwhile, landscape garden, Koishikawa Korakuen (geezers over 65 half-price!). The game itself was a trip, much like an American football game, with non-stop chants by fans and on-field cheerleaders between innings. Our lower-deck seats, bought in advance from the team's website, cost under $35 each.
TOKYO, Thursday 5/25
Like other great cities, like New York or Paris, Tokyo is made for strolling. On this day, we were flaneurs, with stops along Omotesando, the tree-shaded fashion avenue that calls itself Harajuku Champs-Elysees, and hip Cat Street nearby. The area wakes up slowly, so consider a visit at midday or later.
Lunch was a pure pig-out (pun intended) at Tonkatsu Nanaido. Can't recommend it highly enough; the wait was a tolerable 30 minutes (dinner reservations possible). Try to ignore the health implications of tender pork, fried (extremely lightly) in pure lard. Pure heaven.
TOKYO, Friday 5/26
Meiji Shrine and garden got us going in the morning, and the Meiji Jingu Museum was well worth a stop.
We were somewhat ambivalent about sumo but bought advance tickets to the big May tournament because, well, when might we ever see sumo in person again? It turned out to be the surprise hit of the trip: a spectacle with deep historic roots, more engaging and suspenseful than we imagined. Advance online tickets are gettable; no middleman required.
TOKYO, Saturday 5/27
The Tokyo National Museum lives up to its reputation as the best in the country (at least the best we saw). We made repeated visits and still didn't see it all. And it's free for those of us over 70. One of our favorite items: a 1,500-year-old ceramic sculpture of sumo wrestlers and a judge. The museum's enlightened view toward photography means we'll always have our pictures to remind us of what we saw.
TOKYO, Sunday 5/28
We spent a relaxed Sunday morning at verdant Hamarikyu Gardens, a park that borders Tokyo Bay. The former playground of feudal shoguns is an urban oasis of water features and classic landscape design. You can happily spend a couple hours strolling its paths.
In the afternoon, we checked out Ginza's main drag, closed to vehicle traffic. We wish, though, that we'd known that Akihabara's Chuo-dori is also pedestrianized on Sunday afternoons.
NIKKO, Monday 5/29
We cabbed it to Asakusa Station and caught the Tobu Kegon express to Nikko. Light rain didn't stop us --or hundreds of other umbrella toters--from visiting glorious Toshugo Shrine. Far better, though, was our visit the next day. At 8:30 a.m., the shrine was essentially deserted; crowds started arriving at 9:30. That quiet morning hour was reason enough to have spent the night in Nikko. It also kept us ahead of the crowds at Rinnoji Temple and nearby Taiyuin and Futarasan Shrine, all well worth visiting.
Nikko Station Hotel Classic ($270, including excellent meals) was the most old-school place we stayed (They still put top sheets on the beds). Masking is requested, and at breakfast, guests are asked to don plastic gloves before going through the buffet line. The onsen in the basement was absolutely first-rate, as was our meticulously prepared tofu kaiseki dinner at the hotel restaurant.
TOKYO, Tuesday 5/30
For our third and final Tokyo stop, we chose the Ueno area and weren't disappointed. The well-run and sophisticated Nohga Hotel Ueno Tokyo ($217/night, including breakfast) is on a quiet street just a short walk from Ueno Station and park, with its many attractions.
TOKYO, Wednesday 5/31
We wandered through Yanesen, a traditional neighborhood sometimes described as a hidden gem, and began our end-of-trip shopping on mid-century Yanaka Ginza.
Lunch was at Inshotei, a lovely traditional restaurant in the heart of Ueno Park, booked online before our trip. 3.59 on Tabelog.
TOKYO, Thursday 6/1
Tuna! We initially took a pass on the early morning auction, discouraged by reviews on this sub and elsewhere that dismiss the relatively new Toyosu auction site as vastly inferior to the former one at Tsukiji market. But an old Japan hand persuaded us to give it a try. We're extremely happy we did. We were lucky enough to get tickets to the open-air observation platform and the experience became a trip highlight.
Up and out by cab before 4:30 a.m., we had about half an hour to watch and hear the action directly below us. It may not be Tsukiji, but it's the only Tokyo tuna auction you've got. I say go, especially if you can snag open-air gallery passes.
KAMAKURA, Friday 6/2
There weren't a lot of great choices for lodging in the coastal town of Kamakura (a day trip for Tokyo residents). We needed a quick getaway to Haneda Airport on Monday morning, and Hotel Metropolitan Kamakura, a JR East property, fit the bill. It was pricey ($292 per night with meals) but our room was spacious, even luxurious by Japanese standards, and smack in the middle of the action.
KAMAKURA, Saturday 6/3
I wondered, before leaving home, if we'd get templed-out, like other travelers do. It never happened, though torrential rainfall, spun from the remnants of Typhoon Mawar, tested us at the end. On the plus side, we had the Great Buddha and Hachimangu Shrine completely to ourselves; the downside was soaked clothing and shoes that would take time to dry out (fortunately, we brought extra pairs, and our collapsible umbrellas did the best they could).
By afternoon, the skies cleared and hundreds of surfers rushed to ride the storm-generated surf. We caught the action from the sands of Yuigahama Beach.
KAMAKURA, Sunday 6/4
Early, before other tourists arrived, we checked out Engakuji temple, but were helpless in the face of Sunday crowds at Meigetsuin temple, better known as Hydrangea Temple. The blossoms were exploding after the rain but visitors clogged the pathways. We fled to Kenchoji, totally empty by comparison, and had a final, restorative Zen moment in the peaceful garden behind the main hall.
Last stop of the tour, after one more omakase sushi dinner, was sunset at Inamuragasaki Park. We never expected what we found: a spectacular view of Fuji, the entire mountain outlined against a multi-colored sky, with pounding waves and a few hardcore surfers in the foreground.
It was a concluding surprise in a trip filled with them, a journey that greatly exceeded expectations. Four weeks turned out to be just about right for a couple of geezers. But it left lots of stuff on the cutting room floor, like Nagasaki, which I still want to see, and much more. Next time, maybe.

2023.06.10 14:31 longenglishsnakes People still missing from programs and facilities

Introduction

I wanted to collate some information about people still missing from programs. Obviously, there are a lot of runners from programs - some don't get out of the door before being caught, and some keep their freedom until they're 18 and can make themselves known again. That said, there are a lot of people who go beyond runners - who have been missing for years, their image frozen at thirteen, with no news and few theories. These people deserve recognition.
I struggled with how to define the TTI here - lots of people are missing from group homes, which aren't necessarily TTI but sometimes operate with similar modes of coercion, control, repression, and restricted access to rights such as food and sleep. I have tried to be careful and not assign someone TTI when they weren't part of it, but I may have some inclusions or exclusions which you disagree with.

1970's

February 3 1973 (?): Sentenced to Synanon by court order, Rose Lena Cole was sixteen when her last known contact occurred - a postscript to a letter written the previous year noting that she'd finally found a stamp. Rose wasn't actually at Synanon when she went missing, having run away and written to her family telling them she couldn't write again until she turned 18 lest Synanon find her, capture her, and force her back against her will. Rose has never been heard from since, and is still classed as a runaway.

1980's

August 31st 1981: Patricia Lynn Taylor was fifteen when she went missing. Born in California, she'd gone at some point to North Dakota to live with relatives. At some point afterwards, she was taken to Oklahoma and put into the care of Oklahoma's Department of Human Services. First placed in the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children, she was moved to the Tulsa Girls Group Home in July 1981. She went missing on the 31st August that year, and was classified as a runaway. Patricia's family continue to look for her.
March 23rd 1984: William Charles Cordes was a "troubled youth" who had spent time in Juvenile Hall and Oak Ridge House group home before being sent to the Children's Home Society in Auburn, California as punishment for stealing beer. He and two other boys escaped the group home to go to a party, after which 15 year old William has never been seen again. Although he was initially reported as missing, the report was swiftly cancelled and no investigation was made into his disappearance until years later.

1990's

January 16th 1993: John Christopher Inman was a 17 year old student of CEDU Running Springs when he went missing on January 16th 1993. John wasn't the healthiest - he needed meds to prevent seizures, he had a shunt in his skull, crowns on his teeth, and he needed glasses - and didn't have his seizure medication on him when he seemingly ran away.
June 26 1994: A year and a half later, Blake Wade Pursley went missing from the very same CEDU campus. Blake wasn't too healthy either - he'd been in an accident as a toddler that left him with a paralysed vocal chord, a life-threatening internal fungus, poor motor skills, and seizures, and he too required daily medication for said seizures. Blake had only been at CEDU since June 1st, and the circumstances of his disappearance are unclear - the school and authorities believed he'd voluntarily run away, while his family believe he was lured away or abducted. There have been sightings of Blake, but he has not been confirmedly seen since June 26 1994, when he was 14 years old.

2000's

February 8 2004: Another decade on, and another young man disappeared from CEDU High School - 16 year old Daniel Ted Yuen. He was at CEDU for only ten days before running, having been initially sent there following the recommendation of a psychiatrist following a bout of depression. On The Lost Kids podcast, Daniel's parents have stated they believe he is still alive - indeed, there have been recent alleged sightings of Daniel with a woman and baby.
February 15 2004: Thirteen year old Justin Phillip Harris has few confirmed details about him online - everything seems to be contradictory. His father stated he had no disabilities, while the staff at the R.L. Mills Home stated he required constant supervision and was unable to function without psychiatric medication. The R.L. Mills Home, closed in 2011, was a home for adolescent boys with emotional and behavioural problems, and it's from there that Justin vanished. Seemingly, he packed his bed with clothes to make it look like he was asleep in it and then ran away during the night - that said, his father believes that Justin was a victim of a crime, and that the R.L. Mills Home had covered it up. Justin has never been found.

2010's

December 4 2010: Forest Ferguson had attended Diamond Ranch Academy before he ended up at Carlbrook School, a CEDU spinoff which closed in 2015 and is discussed in depth in Stolen: a Memoir by Elizabeth Gilpin. Forest left campus at 7.30PM with some additional clothing, and has not been seen since. Forest's loved ones run a website dedicated to finding Forest and bringing him home.
May 5 2013: William "Billy" Fred Patient III had some problems - he was diagnosed as bipolar, he had substance abuse issues, and was swamped by grief over the death of his father in 2012. Billy was enrolled at The Academy, a residential centre for 'troubled teens', to try and treat his substance abuse problems and depression. He and a group of nine other boys went on an outing to Juno Beach, Florida - Billy was last seen floating in the ocean, his clothes and wallet on the sands. Naturally, one may assume the worst - that Billy drowned, either by accident or intentionally - however his mother believes he was alive for at least several months after his disappearance due to activity on his Facebook page, including messages being read. Billy's parents ended up being refunded by The Academy, as they had failed to provide what they had promised them.
January 21 2019: A resident of Spruce Street Inn, a residential program for " “street youth”, chronic runaways, and commercially sexually exploited children", Kaitlynn Munson went missing on January 21 2019. Kaitlynn simply left, with a couple of sightings shortly after her disappearance but none in the years since. Both of Kaitlynn's parents are dead, and Kaitlynn has severe developmental disabilities. 14 at the time, Kaitlynn is now 18.
February 3 2019: The youngest on this list, Serenity Dennard was only nine years old when she ran away from Black Hills Children's Home in February 2019. Serenity's life had been filled with trauma - removal from her birth parents, over a dozen foster placements, and a diagnosis of Reactive Attachment Disorder. Her adoptive parents placed her in the private facility for a 14 month stay to work on her trauma, and Serenity had been at the home since July 2018. She had already run from the facility before, and so had been on run watch right up until February 3rd. Serenity's disappearance caused concern and outrage when it was revealed the facility took 41 minutes to call 911 following her disappearance, valuable time wasted.

Conclusion

There are many more than this. There are kids from group homes that seem to be TTI-inspired or to follow TTI protocols, but which I can't find definitive information about. There are kids who're written off as runaways and their information never makes it online. There are kids who no one knows about. Kids lost in the system. I can't name them all, but I offer my love and respect to those people. They deserved better.

2023.06.10 14:02 Nitsudog 28 [M4F] A tito looking for a tita life partner

First of all, I am not THAT old but I'm a legit tito though to a human & a few doggos. Life has a lot to offer and I am looking for a potential life partner to share it with; a tita for a tito so to speak.
I'd try to be as comprehensive as I can so you can decide for yourself whether to inquire further...or not.

About me:
  1. Communications professional working in the development consulting sector, working day shifts from home.
  2. Ambivert with an INTJ-T personality type. Straightforward and does not have the capacity to negotiate walking around eggshells. Has a sense of humor that swings between sskait comics and sarcasm.
  3. I've already come to terms that I'd rather be the "cool tito" to my niece than being a father for a whole bunch of reasons.
  4. Never smoked nor did drugs, and only drinks socially.
  5. A bulky weightlifter body type on a 165cm frame; packing muscle whilst being pleasantly huggable. Also wouldn't mind if you ask me if my bespectacled eyes are nakadilat.
  6. More of an indoor chill, city explorer than a nature lover vibe, and mountain views over beaches. Theater & errand dates over party soirees. Researched purchases over impulsive spending type of person.
  7. Can speak 4 languages but also familiar with another set of 4. Can definitely keep up with your TEDtalk as long as it's not taxes and accounting.
  8. Love languages: Physical touch, quality time, acts of service - roughly in that order.
  9. Submissive switch - yes, that kind. On a more wholesome level, it means that I find particular personality traits that most guys would complain about as attractive.
  10. Logistics: Currently based in the Quezon Ave, QC

Hey, you're still here! So let's discuss a bit about you:
  1. Working professional that is financially responsible and financially capable to be in a relationship. Goal-oriented titas are a welcome plus - let's push each other up!
  2. Has an assertive and take-charge attitude coupled with a good sense of humor and witty comebacks. Emotionally mature coupled with empathy, kindness, honesty and respect. Alpha-types with strong personalities are also very welcome.
  3. Decided to be that child-free cool tita
  4. 27 - 31 years old
  5. Please be a legit single tita: as much as I have my long list of kinks, getting chased down by your angry partner is not one of them.
  6. It'll be dishonest to say that we don't have preferences when it comes to looks: petite, mid-sized, or even muscular body-type who actively works out and takes care of herself (and preferably not a chain smoker). I personally wouldn't mind one bit if you're taller, can flex more muscles than I do, or has a conservative sa tela fashion sense. Scars, tattoos and piercings are also cool as they all tell a story. All skin colors are welcome.
  7. Dominant / switch
  8. Not a catfish, a ghost, a socially-overbooked butterfly nor a player - please be honest. Can sustain a conversation.

Pros of dating me:
  1. Always ready to provide advice and a listening ear
  2. Understands that partners have their own lives outside of a relationship and encourages independence
  3. Will send you random memes & doggo pics.
  4. Will actively encourage you to be physically active, advance your career and learn about a lot of things. Most likely be able to physically lift you.
  5. There is no toxic masculine ego nor the need to be 'dominant' in a relationship. Also does not have the inclination to overthink nor the social energy to entertain more than one person at any given time.
  6. Medyo slow burn, Date to Marry.
  7. Perks include having a IT Consultant (sort of), part-time Excel wizard, amateur cost-benefit analyst and a career sounding board. (LOL)

Cons of dating me:
  1. Will definitely not be your personal ATM and hatid-sundo Grab service
  2. Not super makulet clingy
  3. Not too fond of diving into chaotically crowded places and will always go for the more peaceful option.

If you did manage to get all the way here to the bottom, please do hit me up with a good introduction and I’d truly appreciate it if you use your non-throwaway account.
TLDR: Tito looking for a healthy, child-free & kink-positive female-led relationship for the long-term.

PS: I’ve posted here before and the thing is, sometimes it just doesn’t click – and that’s perfectly okay! That’s part and parcel of dating, and honest communication will always be the key.

2023.06.10 13:33 VeryBigdDick prompt

Prompt Engineering. This prompt book will help you learn essential building blocks and
all the techniques to master Stable Diffusion.
The secret for generating good images
A well-written prompt consisting of modifiers and a good
sentence structure. We will also show you all types of modifiers and some magic words.
Well-adjusted Stable Diffusion weights. You can
always use the default, but sometimes fine-tuned weights can generate better results.
This will strengthen your ability to
bring your creative dream images to life.

Prompt keyword weighting is supported. You can increase the attention of a keyword but not higher than 1.5.
Use the format (example:weight). By default, words have a coefficient of 1 (example: 0.4), they will have a lower priority.

Attention for words Technique:
Adding "()" in the prompt increases attention to enclosed words, while "[]" decreases it. You can combine multiple modifiers:
- a (word) - increase attention to word by a factor of 1.1
- a ((word)) - increase attention to word by a factor of 1.21 (= 1.1 * 1.1)
- a [word] - decrease attention to word by a factor of 1.1
- a (word:1.5) - increase attention to word by a factor of 1.5
- a (word:0.25) - decrease attention to word by a factor of 4 (= 1 / 0.25)

You can also use a few words in "()" and "[]". You can also use a few words in "()" and "[]".

Also you can still use this structure: (example, example :weight), so the weight will increase for several words at once.
Examples: (grayscale, woodcut:1.2); (((blue hair, floating hair, liquid hair, chromatic aberration))); (rutkowski, artstation:0.8); (masterpiece, best quality:1.4); [cute, volumetric fog]

Please note that to increase or decrease the weight of several words, you need to put a comma between them.

Start by asking a list of questions
  1. Do you want a photo or a painting?
  2. What’s the subject of the photo? Person? An animal or perhaps a landscape?
  3. What details do you want to add?
a) Special Lighting. Soft, ambient, ring light, neon

b) Environment. Indoor, outdoor, underwater, in space

c) Color Scheme. Vibrant, dark, pastel

e) Point of view. Front, Overhead, Side

f) Background. Solid color, nebula, forest

  1. In a specific art style? 3D render, studio ghibli, movie poster
  2. A specific photo type? Macro, telephoto

This is not an all-inclusive list, but will help you get great results when you start.
your prompt crafting journey.
Answer the following questions:
  1. Do you want a photo or a painting? => painting
  2. What’s the subject of the photo? Person. animal, landscape. => a goldendoodle
  3. In a certain camera position? side view, from bottom, from above, from behind => from behind
  4. What details do you want to be added? => suit

a. Special Lighting. Soft, ambient, ring light, neon => natural light

b. Environment. Indoor, outdoor, underwater, in space => in the sky

c. Color Scheme. Vibrant, dark, pastel => with bright colors

  1. In specific art style? 3D render, studio ghibli, movie poster => by Studio Ghibli

The order of words is important
The order and presentation of our desired output is almost as an important aspect as the vocabulary itself. It is recommended to list your concepts explicitly and separately than trying to cramp it into one simple sentence.

The keyword categories are:

  1. Subject: what you want to see in the image, such as a person, an object, a scene, etc.
  2. Medium: the material used to make the artwork, such as illustration, oil painting, realistic, anime, 3D rendering, etc.
  3. Style: the artistic style of the image, such as impressionist, surrealist, pop art, etc.
  4. Artist: the name of a specific artist or multiple artists whose style you want to emulate or blend.
  5. Website: the name of a niche graphic website that aggregates images of a certain genre, such as Artstation or Deviant Art.
  6. Additional details: any other modifiers that can enhance the image, such as sci-fi, stunningly beautiful, dystopian, etc.
  7. Color: the overall color or tone of the image, such as iridescent gold, pastel pink, etc.
  8. Lighting: the effect of light and shadow on the image, such as cinematic lighting, soft lighting, dark, dark shot, bright, etc.

You don’t have to include keywords from all categories. You can use them as a checklist to remind you what could be used.
A negative prompt is a way to tell the neural network what should not be in the image. You can use words or phrases that describe what you want to avoid or exclude from the image. You can also use weights in negative prompt to increase or decrease the effect of certain words.

Generally accepted negative prompt is considered: (deformed, distorted, disfigured:1.3), poorly drawn, bad anatomy, wrong anatomy, extra limb, missing limb, floating limbs, (mutated hands and fingers:1.4), disconnected limbs, mutation, mutated, ugly, disgusting, blurry, amputation.

Realistic negative prompt: overexposed, (deformed iris, deformed pupils, semi-realistic, cgi, 3d, render, sketch, cartoon, drawing, anime:1.3), text, close up, cropped, out of frame, worst quality, low quality, jpeg artifacts, ugly, duplicate, morbid, mutilated, extra fingers, mutated hands, poorly drawn hands, poorly drawn face, mutation, deformed, blurry, dehydrated, bad anatomy, bad proportions, extra limbs, cloned face, disfigured, gross proportions, malformed limbs, missing arms, missing legs, extra arms, extra legs, fused fingers, too many fingers, long neck.

For positive prompt and negative prompt, I have thought of universal keywords - styles. You may not find them in the examples because they are new. Almost every style has a Negative prompt. It is advisable to write it together with positive prompt.

An example of how to use styles if you want to create a cat image in a Professional photo style:
  1. Positive prompt: (dark shot:1.4), 80mm, cat, soft light, sharp, exposure blend, medium shot, bokeh, (hdr:1.4), high contrast, (cinematic, teal and orange:0.85), (muted colors, dim colors, soothing tones:1.3), low saturation, (hyperdetailed:1.2), (noir:0.4)

  1. Negative prompt: neon, (deformed, distorted, disfigured:1.3), poorly drawn, bad anatomy, wrong anatomy, extra limb, missing limb, floating limbs, (mutated hands and fingers:1.4), disconnected limbs, mutation, mutated, ugly, disgusting, blurry, amputation, over saturated

For example, if you want to generate an image of a girl with Natural skin:

  1. Positive prompt: girl, (natural skin texture, hyperrealism, soft light, sharp)

  1. Negative prompt: (cgi:0.9), (deformed, distorted, disfigured:1.3), poorly drawn, bad anatomy, wrong anatomy, extra limb, missing limb, floating limbs, (mutated hands and fingers:1.4), disconnected limbs, mutation, mutated, ugly, disgusting, blurry, amputation, 3d, illustration, cartoon, (doll:0.9)

Here are completely universal styles that you can combine and use in your prompt(I highly recommend using them!):

Professional photo:
  1. Positive prompt for Professional photo: (dark shot:1.4), 80mm, {POprompt}, soft light, sharp, exposure blend, medium shot, bokeh, (hdr:1.4), high contrast, (cinematic, teal and orange:0.85), (muted colors, dim colors, soothing tones:1.3), low saturation, (hyperdetailed:1.2), (noir:0.4)

  1. Negative prompt for Professional photo: neon, {NEprompt}, over saturated

Natural skin:
  1. Positive prompt for natural skin: (natural skin texture, hyperrealism, soft light, sharp)

  1. Negative prompt for natural skin: (cgi:0.9), 3d, illustration, cartoon, (doll:0.9)

Details:
  1. Positive prompt Details: (intricate details:0.9), (hdr, hyperdetailed:1.2)

Gloomy style:
  1. Positive prompt for gloomy style: complex background, stuff in the background, highly detailed, (gloomy:1.3), dark, dimmed, hdr, vignette, grimy, (slate atmosphere:0.8)

  1. Negative prompt for gloomy style: (depth of field:1.3), (bokeh:1.2), (blur), blurred, pink

2023.06.10 13:11 No-Care6059 Hotel advice please?

Visiting LA. Going to do two days at Universal, want to do Malibu, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Sofi. Do we stay at The Garland, Hilton Universal City, or Loews Hollywood? Feel free to suggest another but these seem to be the list I've narrowed it down to.
We're then moving towards Anaheim and doing Laguna Beach, Knotts Berry Farm, etc.

2023.06.10 11:27 Noghbuddy Secret Chord - Part 6

I realize this is a bit late. I suppose this is my public declaration that u/wolven91 can post my stories wherever. I just wanted to get this part out before the sub froze. I hope to write more, however I'm not a big fan of Tumblr, so I won't be making an account. If the Discord seems viable then I'll probably haunt that, but otherwise I'll have to figure out where to post. However this shakes out, y'all have fun and have a good one.

----------
David loved the rain. Growing up in a desert, he loved the smell that’d come off the dirt and how the overcast skies shielded the sun-bleached streets and buildings from the blinding star. He’d spend hours sitting at a coffee shop listening to music and watching the cars drive through the puddles. The rain was nothing short of miraculous. If it made it over the wall of mountains blocking David from the ocean, the rain would knock all the dust and smog out of the air revealing a crystal-clear view of all the mountains down the valley. The parched dirt greedily drank it up and sat still, free from the gusting winds. Then the next day, the brown hills and mountainsides would turn a bright vibrant green. It brought him a measure of peace.
The shuttle shuddered slightly as it passed through the atmosphere, windows becoming blocked by dark grey clouds. This planet was permanently overcast. Tons of water circled the globe, floating on the currents of air, speeding from one horizon to the other frequently dousing the surface with heavy showers. David couldn’t help a small grin sticking to his face. It’d been years since he’d seen rain.
“It’s about an hour till touchdown.” Reported the pilot over the intercom.
David turned his attention away from the windows. The shuttle reminded him of an airport bus someone threw into space, complete with cheap upholstery. It was thankfully empty save for himself and his two companions. He glanced left at Ruk’sa who was fast asleep in her chair. She stayed up all night with David, but it seems she’s not quite as used to sleep deprivation as he is. She stirred slightly, tucking her legs up under her and wrapping her tail around herself. Sarif was livid when David asked the fik to come with him, but calmed down somewhat when he explained he wanted someone to keep an eye on his apartment while he was gone.
He looked to his right at Hilda who had been studying him, pad forgotten in her lap. “Enjoying the view?” she asked gesturing to the windows.
“I love the rain.” He answered with his small smirk still in place.
“Really?
“Yeah…It always put me in a good mood back home. It sort of…refreshed me, I guess.” Hilda pondered her next question before David interrupted, “You like the rain?”
“Uh, um…I suppose so. It depends.”
“On what?”
“On how strong the storm was. If it was light rain, I didn’t mind. It was good for the crops and gave us all a reason to take it easy. No one wanted to work in the rain. But if it was a major storm…Well, then we were all worried about the damage it could cause. If there was lightning it could start a fire…”
“Crops? You’re a farm girl?”
He could see her mentally kick herself as she drew a slow breath, “Yes…I’m a farm girl…”
“I guess that explains why you look corn fed.” He mumbled.
“Corn fed?”
“Don’t worry about it. You look great. Like a brick shithouse.”
Her brows knit in confused thought. “That sounds worse.”
He chuckled then, “You look good. I promise.” They settled into silence for a while, broken by Hilda.
“What was home like?”, she asked softly.
David leaned back and took a breath, “What was it like?...Home, I guess…” He looked at his companion’s inquisitive look and sighed. “It was mostly a desert…Hot…But a paradise…The sun always shone, and the temperature was always bearable. We had beaches, snowy mountains, vast fertile plains, giant magnificent forests, and huge stretches of desert. That’s not even counting all the different cities and people. Whatever you could want, it was there…It wasn’t perfect. I hated it plenty of times…Seems a bit silly now…But, now I realize just how amazing it was…” He stared out the window, eyes unfocused.
“Was that the whole planet?”
“What? No. That was just my state. The rest of the planet had a lot more going on… You gotta remember it took a little more effort to travel before…Yeah…Especially where I lived…”
Hilda had hundreds more questions but could tell he was growing uncomfortable. She tried to shift gears, “If you really like the starshine, why do you love the rain?”
He collected his words, “It was always sunny…A bit too hot for my taste…So, the rain was a nice change of pace. It was rare…A lot of other humans hate the rain, but I think that’s just because they grew up in places where it always rained…Most people I knew who grew up without rain loved it.”
“Five till touchdown.”, reported the pilot.
Ruk’sa was roused from her nap as the shuttle shuddered slightly and swung down from the clouds. It gracefully flew through the valley to the designated landing point where it slowly landed beside half a dozen other shuttles of various makes and sizes. The trio stood and made their way out led by David.
He descended the short ramp and strode through the parked shuttles. Emerging into the open he looked toward the Guardian waiting area. There were a couple of those big bastards, a couple canids, an avian and-
He screwed his eyes shut and shook his head. His companions looked where he had. Ruk’sa put her hand on his shoulder and asked, “You want Ruk’sa to-“
“No. No, just go wait with the others…And make sure that thing doesn’t slither up the hill.”
Ruk’sa squeezed his shoulder as Hilda gave a disapproving sigh, before the duo strode off toward the other Guardians. Keeping his sight on anywhere but the gathered aliens, David started hiking up the hill.
The hill sat in the middle of a long valley covered in a bright green, almost luminescent grass, with gnarled trees dotting the hillsides. The ground beneath David gave a little with each step threatening to devolve into a muddy slurry, but the rain died down, seemingly aware of the ceremony. Breathing heavily, he finally crested the hill to find a handful of other humans.
It was shocking. He hadn’t seen another human since…Since…He couldn’t remember…Was it really since he was still a slave? The half dozen or so humans milled about the gravesite. A metal casket adorned the mockup above the grave. It wasn’t right. Sure, it was a box meant to hold a corpse, but it just seemed…off…Too bulky.
David focused on the other humans. A small group of two noticed his arrival, so he made his way over to them, straightening the subtle wrinkles in his shirt and slacks. A man and a woman greeted him as he walked up.
“Hello there!” called the man, “I thought we were supposed to have one more. How are you? Have a smooth trip?”
David could tell the man wasn’t speaking English. “Fair enough. I got the invite a bit late. Had to make a bunch of last-minute plans.”
“Sorry to hear that.” said the woman, “At least you made it. Did you know the deceased?”
“No…I thought it was strange to get the invitation, but well…If he wanted me here, I guess I could spare the time.” He noticed the other two were eyeing him strangely. He cleared his throat, “So, did either of you know him?”
“No…I don’t think anyone did. I guess he…or whoever carried out his will, just looked up the closest humans in the system and invited them. At least they were discreet.”
David didn’t understand the need for discretion, but agreed anyway, “Right…Wouldn’t want just anyone showing up.” The other two seemed confused, but quickly recovered.
“Say…” the woman began, “Do I know you?”
David shook his head, “No, I don’t think so. I don’t get out much.”
“No, I know you.” She began typing on her com, “…Hah! Is this you?” She held it up for David to see.
A vid began playing of an all too familiar back room of an all too familiar café. It showed David from the rear singing into a mic. Eyes closed in emotional concentration, “Fly me to the Moon, let me play among the stars. Let me see what spring is like, on Jupiter and Mars.” He swayed and danced slightly, enough to get a good look at his face. David stared at the video slack jawed until the end where a pair of felinoid fingers surreptitiously retrieved the recording com.
“So, it is you! I thought I recognized you.” She seemed pleased. David was a bit heartbroken. “What’s the matter? You sound wonderful.”
“I…I…”
“Say! Can you sing for the service? We don’t have anyone, and it just seems right…Could you?”
David was conflicted. Still reeling. He wasn’t betrayed exactly…He never asked to not be recorded, but this…How many people saw?...He shook himself from his reverie. “What?”
“Could you sing a hymn or two? Mr. Albrecht wanted a traditional funeral. So, that would mean a song or two, right?”
He thought for a moment. All he wanted to do was show face. Maybe see a couple humans and reconnect, but…Well… “I guess I could…I’ve done a couple funerals before…” He looked between the two and answered, “Alright…Just let me know when to go up…”
They shook his hand and patted him on the shoulder before going and finding the preacher. He could see them talking and pointing in his direction before he found a seat beside the casket facing the front. Everyone else found a seat as the older man at the front addressed the gathering.
“Welcome. Thank you all for coming. I am chaplain Richard Martinez, and I will be leading and delivering the eulogy today. Unfortunately, Mr. Albrecht’s family could not attend, however I would like to thank all of you in attendance. I know coming together as one people is a challenge, but Mr. Albrecht and I thank you for your sacrifice. We are gathered here today to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Mortimer Albrecht. During our tumultuous journey to the stars, and diaspora among its people, we lost a small sense of our joint humanity. We split and spread out to the four winds in a bid for self-preservation. But now we come together. We join one another to recognize a fellow brother and son of Earth. We come together to give final rights and recognition to the deceased that they are truly human, and we will not forget or abandon them to the cold uncaring void of space. Mr. Albrecht was born on Earth and believed in the unstoppable spirit and drive of humanity. We share this belief with all of you. Those who answered the call. Those who believed in the brotherhood of humanity. That our spirit is strong and unbreaking. That humanity will one day walk in the sun, unafraid and proud of who we are. That we will one day stand before the other races of the galaxy as an equal. Please join me in prayer as we put the spirit of Mortimer Albrech to rest. For those who practice, please bow your head and join me in prayer, and for those who don’t, please observe a respectful silence.
Dear Lord, we come before you to humbly ask that you guide Mr. Albrecht swiftly and surly to your eternal peace. That you guard and guide his spirit as surely as you guide our own. In your name we pray, amen. Now we will turn our time over to a special guest who has volunteered to sing a hymn or two.” He gestured to David in his seat.
David stood and made his way to the front of the casket and faced the small crowd. He cleared his throat and began, “Good morning. I’m David King, and I’ll sing a couple of traditional songs. You are welcome to sing along if you know the words.”
He cleared his throat, took a breath and began, “Amazing grace. How sweet the sound…”
He sang clearly and steadily, as his voice rang out through the narrow valley, keeping his hand folded in front of him. A couple of the attendees sang quietly with him, but David remained steady. Focused on the task at hand. He may not have known the man, but that was no excuse to disrespect him. He noticed the woman from before sitting in the back of the crowd, recording his performance. He considered protesting, but today wasn’t about him. Besides, what harm could it do?
When ‘Amazing Grace’ was done he went straight into ‘Danny boy.’ About that time the attendees grew misty-eyed. “You’ll bend down and tell me that you love me. And I shall rest in peace until you come to me.”
Even the preacher-man seemed reluctant to say anything, so David continued. “This next song…Means a lot to me…It got me…and others through a particularly hard time. If Samuel is somewhere out there. This is for us.” He planted himself, breathed, and began. “When peace, like a river, atendeth my way. When sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well, with my soul…”
David hadn’t thought of that hymn in years. The memories weren’t pleasant, but it seemed appropriate at the time. Chaplin Martinez made his way up beside David and put his hand on his shoulder. “Thank you. We all appreciated that. This concludes the service for Mr. Albrecht. Go in peace.”
The tiny congregation stood a milled about before making their way back down the hill. David stayed behind to wait out the snake’s charge, looking over the casket and simple gravestone. He had hoped to maybe make some kind of connection, but the humans dispersed without so much as a word. He was alone again. And he didn’t know why.
After a time, there were only a couple shuttles left. The casket had been let down with a couple chains, and the Guardians had dispersed with their humans. David shambled down the hill and met his companions.
“Ready to go?”
“I guess.”
“You sounded beautiful.”
“You could hear that?”
Hilda nodded.
“Thanks…I try…” They boarded the shuttle and took off. David wondered if it was even worth it.
*****
Sammuel was making his rounds through the station. The children loved him, and the parents loved the break. He stood in the middle of the park entertaining and answering questions. The dark-skinned man loved any opportunity to give back to the community that took him in. The dark-skinned man was keeping watch over some ursdain children when he heard something that caught his attention.
“When sorrows like sea billows roll.”
He sought out the youngster with the vid loaded on his com, “Hey. Could you do me a favor and show me that?”
The ssypno child seemed confused, but complied, “You know this song?”
“Whatever my lot, you have taught me to say, it is well, it is well, with my soul.”
He watched the screen intently, his jovial attitude sobering somewhat. “I know that song…I know that man…” He watched intently the man who helped him through the hardest part of his life. “You have any idea where that is?” The child of course didn’t know. “Well…I’m gonna have to find him on my own…”

2023.06.10 10:28 Mycontentplace The Pride Month

The Pride Month
The month of June is celebrated by the LGBTQ+ community as the Pride Month. But what is the history of Pride Month and why is it celebrated in June? Let's learn about that.
The struggle by the LGBTQ+ community for equality had started in the United States as far back as 1924. However, the event that sped up the struggle happened in June of 1969 in New York City's Greenwich village, at the Stonewall Inn.
In the morning of June 28, 1969, the police raided the Stonewall Inn., a popular gathering place for young LGBTQ+ people, for selling liquor without license. Outside the bar, people became enraged after watching the police herding the bar's patrons into police vans.
Previously, witnesses to police harassment of LGBTQ+ community had stood by passively, but this time the crowd jeered the police and threw coins and then bottles and debris at them, forcing the police to barricade themselves in the bar to await backup.
Although police reinforcements dispersed the crowd, riots waxed and waned outside the bar for the next five days, and these Stonewall riots (also called the Stonewall Uprising) provided the spark that ignited the LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States.
At the Eastern Regional Conference of Homophile Organizations in Philadelphia on November 2, 1969, the idea of a march in response to the Stonewall events was proposed.
Scheduled for June 28, 1970, the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the procession was named the Christopher Street Liberation Day march after the street that was the epicenter of New York City's LGBTQ+ community.
Although "gay power" had been proposed as the slogan for the march, but because its members felt great pride in their sexual identity, it was decided that the march's theme would be "gay pride."
Thereafter, Gay Pride generally came to be celebrated in the United States on the last Sunday in June. In time, the day expanded to become a month-long event, which is now officially recognized by the government of the United States.
In June 2016, President Barack Obama declared a 7.7-acre area around the Stonewall Inn as the Stonewall National Monument.

2023.06.10 09:31 CuriousPotato9_6 AITA for not wanting to visit my elder sister?

Story is going to be long, please cope with me! I, 27 (f) have an elder sister, lets call her Sarah (32 f). Sarah always wanted to go out with friends and make any excuse to not share some time with me. I understand this, because of our age gap. She would always make excuses to NOT go out even on a simple walk with me... She would call me when she need something from me - help her write her homework done, when she needs a 'canvas' to put makeup on and pretty much 'play as makeup artist'. Of course I was happy to help, that was my moment to share with her. I was a young child and have VERY sensitive skin until this very day. That didnt stop her for putting low-quality makeup on her baby sister. This was the time we spend together as siblings when she was at highschool.
When she went to Uni it wasnt way different - she went to another city. I call her on the phone, to just talk - shes busy or doesnt answer. At some point, I started calling her from our mom's phone, since she would answer her. The moment she finds out im the one calling - she would put the phone own, making any excusses. I was turning 16 at one point and instead of being with my friends, I wanted to be with her - that was my wish. So i visited her in her city for days - her sweet roommate knew how old i was turning and even had the care to buy me a pwush. My sister, on the other hand, mistook my age.. we had 2 fun days, going out, watching some videos at her place - her roomate went to her bf's place so i could have her bed.. i still keep the plush and adore her for what kind person she is...
Time goes by, my sister finds summer job at the seaside. I went to visit her for about 5 days, claiming i wanted to go to the beach, but i really wanted to spend some time with her, show her that ive grown up and have better topics to talk about with her... My mother, payed my sister to have me over, so she would pay the hotel room for giving me a bed in her room - we shared the same one... I think that was the only reason she agreed on having me there. I didnt want to be a burden, but I did made it clear that i wanted to be with her while sunbathing and that id even help her with the job so she would NOT have me as a burden. And so I did. Once, I saw her looking at a man in specific way - i knew at that moment she was all over him, but got all shy and didnt even talk to him more that 'is the job here done?'... So i decided to use my 'childish' charm and pretend to be dumb and stopped him while he was passing our table while asking things like 'oh, do you also work here?' what do you work?' and so on. We ended up being invited for a drink - turned out he was also shy to talk to her... I remember them thanking me for doing that, because they both talked as friends to each other since then. I was happy for her. They ended up being married and having two kids. Years go by, me and mostly my mom go visit her, to help with the childcare and housework. She didnt work, but raising a child even without a job is NOT an easy task. I had my own life - I was at Uni, I had a bf, he even once came along to babysit. Things were serious between us, we even lived together at one point. We broke up, went our ways, I had to focus on University more than ever, because as years passed, the material got harder to understand and learn. I had 2 subjects, the hardest ones that i didnt pass 2 times in a row... Not passing it for a 3d time could mean a dropuot for me or at least paying more taxes... Having to study even harder, homeworks going on and on, along with the projects - i had NO free time for myself... During this time, my mother was also working at my homecity. My sister was in a 3d destination, se we were all split up.
Sarah decided it was finally time for her to get her drivers licence. My mom couldnt drop out from work, so that left me to go and help with babysitting. So the only free month i had during the summer (because of the exams i didnt manage to pass 2 times in a row) I spend at her place, taking care of the 2 kids, one going to kindergarden, the other staying at home cuz its still a barely walking baby. I had to take care of ther animals as well - they lived at a village, that allows people to have animals, lucky for me chicks and a dog only. Had to clean everything up as fast as possible, the house, the outdoors, everything, we had to go for walks, had to clan up the baby and pretty much everything a mom does in her daily life.
Sarah was able to cook before she went to her instructor. She came back home, quite late, so usually i would be at her place, helping out her husband with his stuff and playing with the kids so they wouldnt be bored. I didnt mind any of that, because i went there to help her and love my nieces. It was summer, it was boiling hot - i had to keep in mind on what and WHEN to plan it during the day, since the kids are usually even more sensitive. So i did all and im happy with myself. My mom told me she could come and help, already, so i was happy, because i still needed to focus on my study...
I was at my sister's place for a whole month and when we said 'goodbye' to each other, she said 'well thats a short amount of time you coped with it, but i guess, good enough.' and I lookead at her, trying to understand what she just said. She realised i wasnt understanding her, so explained: 'you coped with my kids and house for a month, but thats nothing for me, i have to cope with all of that on daily basis'.
I've felt as a second hand human for quite some time, since people call me whenever they need me, but are almost NEVER there for me when i need them. And the few times they were, they would give me not just any advice, but usually a non-practical one... Since that moment I spent the next 5 YEARS not going to her place at all. I went this year once, they still live in not-wash-to-be-for-years rug. You can imagine the rest. Yes, she was a staymom for 10 years. Her kids are spoiled and have no knowedge, nor good behaviour.
She still hasnt bothered to wirte me a single 'how are you doing? are you doing okay latelly?'
Soon she needed help again, i was the only one who could manage it, because our parents couldnt and her husband DIDNT WANT TO get bothered with her stuff. So i did it yet again and i could get seriously fined if she hasnt done all the documents as she should have. But thats another topic on its own.
Im so sorry for making this post so long, I really tried to skip as much as possible... Thank you for taking up your time to read my story!
