TIFU and lost my phone forever to the AZ river gods.

2023.06.10 19:18 revanchisto TIFU and lost my phone forever to the AZ river gods.

Not so much today as a week ago. I'm in AZ for a team building work thing and decide to go on the kayaking adventure. I've never kayaked before, but this was billed as a calm "Level 1" river. Cool. We get kitted up and the "instructors" give us a brief run down on how to paddle, basically put the shit in the water and pull. Oh, I thought I just waved it around in the air. Sweet, I got this. Did I mention they told us to leave our phones? Yeah, but I'm too smart to listen. My shorts have zippers. My phone will be nice and secure and I can take pictures while kayaking. Big brain.
Okay, two people per kayak. Immediately as we start out I realize that coordinating paddling in a kayak is a lot more difficult than one would think, as is keeping a kayak going straight. At the start we are already spinning around and having to right ourselves. And then we hit the bank with tree roots sticking out, nearly capsizing us. It's all good, we're champs and right ourselves again. A few more spins, light bumps into other inexperience colleagues in other kayaks, and everything is fine and dandy.
Break time. Alright, perfect spot to whip out the personal phone and take a picture of everyone. But revanchisto, in your supreme idiocy you decided to bring both your work phone and personal phone with you, since you're already that stupid why not do the smart thing and take the picture with your work phone. Well, this is TIFU. Naturally, I use my personal phone to snap a few pictures and put it back in my pocket. What? You thought I dropped it then, no. I'm not that dumb. But, this is like fuck up number 3 at this point.
You see, my left pocket has been having trouble zipping up as of late with ease. Even when calm and sitting down at the gym, I often have to struggle to zip back up that pocket. Of course, that is the pocket I place my personal phone. Genius. We continue our trek down the river, I snap some more pics, and start trying to zip back up my phone. Yet, the pocket remains as stubborn as ever and I also need to balance paddling while zipping. Suddenly, the current picks up pretty quick and oh look, another kayak duo got stuck on an tree branch sticking out of the middle of the damn water!
Okay, decision time. We can keep trying to zip up the phone in our pocket, or paddle as hard as we can to avoid crashing into these people. Fuck it, I want to live. We paddle. We crash anyway. So much for valuing my life over a phone. But guess what, we're still fine. We haven't capsized. Oh wait, what's this? Another boat coming in to smash into all of us creating a kayak sandwich? Yes, yes it is. BAM. We capsize and go over. Thank you life vests. Bye, bye paddle.
Guess what? Miraculously my phone is hanging on for dear life in my pocket, we can still salvage this situation. One hand holding my phone in my pocket, one hand on our kayak as we float down the river. Finally, the guide crew come around to help us back into our kayaks. Final fuck up time, do I do the smart thing and say, "hey man, hold my phone first before pulling me up?" No, I'm a dumbass, remember? So, I reach out for that hand to pull myself out of this goddamn river and whoosh, bye phone...forever. Didn't even feel the thing leave my pocket. Whoosh.
TL;DR I sit here, without my personal phone, because I didn't leave it behind before going on a kayaking adventure, because I put it in my faulty zipper pocket, because I couldn't paddle correctly to avoid the damn crash, and because I couldn't even think to just hand the damn phone to the crew before having them pull me back up into the kayak.
So, if anyone comes across a Samsung S22+ that has washed up on the shores of a AZ river bank, shoot me a DM. Otherwise, that is my fuck up.

2023.06.10 15:45 Mar_Koo_Sha Xbox - Dynamic Campaign Map - A Few Complaints or My Ignorance - Long

COH3 is the first in the series I've played because I haven't had a PC since Jesus was an M-60 gunner. Hope that didn't offend anyone. I am an Army Infantry veteran, and we used to say that to denote something that's really old.
I love this game and find it addicting.
But...
I can find no correlation between unit sizes on the DCM and the RTS. I never know how many units I'll start a skirmish with. As a commander in the field this is vital information. It would be nice if we could know how many tanks and what types the enemy will start with, as well as other units, such as how many other vehicles, how much infantry, and so forth. I would love to have this information before I initiate a skirmish, etc.
This information would also be useful when we're making new units at HQ. For example, I had a skirmish where I had to capture the areas surrounding their HQ. I've learned in these situations to build up several units and send one group each into each area around their HQ that I need to capture. Typically each group has infantry, engineers, bazooka squad, tank, a half-track with the anti-tank gun and one with .50 cal gun. I will also throw in the jeep with the .30 cal. Typically, a group like this will easily capture and hold. If you move that group somewhere else, the enemy will take it back. Hence, the need for three groups.
I did this and captured two of the areas quickly. Suddenly, the Germans counter-attacked with heavy tanks and the vehicle that has four machine guns on it. They also called in artillery and they had mortars as well, and probably 100 ground troops. Militarily, it was a brilliant counter-attack. But they wiped out all of my vehicles and ground troops; and chased me back to my HQ. It was a blood bath. I had nothing that could damage their tanks. They damaged my motor pool. I was able to fight off most of their ground troops but the tanks almost wiped me out.
I had no heavy tanks, and no real air support of the ability to drop in tanks or aiartillery support. . Eventually, they got tired and went home. They lost a lot of men, but I lost.
I replayed it and with the knowledge I now had, I was able to build the right gear and easily won.
It would also be nice if true north was indicated on the DCM,
Another complaint I have is that they throw too many missions at us, especially side missions. I think one main mission and an alternate would be good. I'm on the Adriatic coast and the General is barking about Anzio. This, to me, is just stupid. Getting from the Adriatic coast to Anzio takes a LONG time. Let me finish one mission before you throw something new at me with a target on the other side of the peninsula. Missions are typically assigned based on the unit's location.
I find it frustrating that ships cannot travel from one side the peninsula to the other. If you have two ships in the Salerno area and you're attacking the Adriatic coast, the ships are worthless in terms of naval gun support. And planes from an aircraft carrier cannot reach the other side of the peninsula where they'd be valuable assets to ground units in that AO.
I've not been able to move a heavy bomber to a different airfield, though that command is in the order wheel. I've tried many times to move a bomber to a blue airfield closer to the front, and each time it was a no go. These bombers become useless when they're too far from the front. I need bombs where I'm fighting, not in already captured areas to my rear.
I don't care for the bantering between the generals and the resistance leader. This is totally unnecessary, and it would nice if there was an option to turn this off.
There is but one commander, and the other officers carry out his orders. Having two generals assigning missions to the same armies is a cluster-fuck. Eisenhower was the supreme commander of the allied expeditionary forces, and he gave orders to Montgomery and the units under him, and different orders to Patton. There was some overlap because of the rivalry between these two generals, but the point remains.
I love the idea of the DCM, but I find it clumsy and unrelated to the RTS maps. A commander always assesses the strength of the enemy before deciding to attack and which units to use for the attack.
Corporal Conti should be a division or brigade sergeant major. No corporal is going to be barking out orders to units. At best, a corporal might be a team leader in a platoon; meaning they're might be six troops under him.

2023.06.10 14:21 JPAnalyst [OC] Which teams have the best legacy at Defensive Line since the merger?

For this analysis, I combed through the data from 1970 to present and calculated the average annual number of Pro Bowlers, first-team AP All-Pros, and Hall of Famers by franchise and by positional group to help determine which teams were the best at each position. The data was used to help guide some of my choices here (chart at the end).
This is a piece of a much longer post I made for a site I wrote for in 2022, but I'm breaking it up by positional group to make it more consumable and focus on one position at a time.
Notes:

Vikings

A defensive unit doesn’t earn the moniker The Purple People Eaters unless they are one of the most commanding and fearsome fronts in the NFL. The Vikings dominant legacy on the defensive line stems from the 1970s but it didn’t end there. From 1970-1976 the Vikings had a top five defense in points allowed six times as they went 75-22-1 and made three Super Bowl appearances. The line was anchored by two Hall of Famers in Carl Eller and future Minnesota Supreme Court Justice, Alan Page. In the late ‘80s and ‘90s two more HOFers Chris Doleman and John Randle would continue the tradition that the Purple People Eaters began in the late ‘60s. Doleman would end his career with 150.5 sacks, the 7th most in NFL history. The four Hall of Famers, Doleman, Randle, Eller, and Page plus 4-time AP All-Pro Jared Allen combined for a total of 706 sacks and make up 25% of the top-20 list for career sacks. Kevin Williams a 300+ pound run stuffer who could also get after the quarterback (career best 11.5 sacks in 2004) was the linchpin of the defensive line in the early to late 2000s. He would go on to make six Pro Bowls and earn five AP All-Pros. All-in-all the Vikings had a HOF defensive lineman on their roster 44% of the time since the merger, and in thirteen of the 52 years they had two HOFers on the D-line, while averaging nearly a Pro Bowler every season.

Rams

Deacon Jones was arguably one of the most feared players in NFL history, and although most of his dominance was in the 1960s when he had three seasons with 20+ sacks, he kicked off the post-merger Rams era with a Pro Bowl season at the age of 32. He wouldn’t do much for the Rams after his 1970 season, but he set the stage for the rest of the decade in which the Rams would have a top-5 defense for points allowed in seven of the 10 years. The Rams never won a Super Bowl in the ‘70s, but they would make the Conference Championship half of the time. The Rams had a HOFer on the defensive line every single season during the 1970s, often more than one. In 1971 their defensive line had THREE HOFers in Deacon Jones, Jack Youngblood, and Merlin Olsen. 1971 would be Jones’ last season with the Rams, but Olsen and Youngblood would go on to terrorize opponents throughout the decade and rack up 13 Pro Bowls and six AP All-Pros between them. Book-ending this reign of terror is certain future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald who came up big in the final moments of Super Bowl LVI by stopping the Bengals on their final drive for no gain on 3rd and one and then pressuring QB Joe Burrow into an errant throw on 4th and one before and finally jumping to his feet and pointing to his ring finger as the Rams won the Super Bowl. Donald has known nothing but accolades and awards since he entered the league, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year, a Pro Bowl in each of his eight seasons, seven AP All-Pros and three AP Defensive Player of the Year awards. Jones (173.5 sacks) and Youngblood (151.5 sacks) are ranked 3rd and 6th all time, while Donald leads all players in sacks with 98 since he has entered the league.

Cowboys

Offense wins games, defense wins championships. Although this phrase doesn’t apply in the modern NFL, there is always a thread of truth to a common adage and the Cowboys exemplify this saying. From 1970 to 1995 the Cowboys have been to eight Super Bowls, winning five, and their defense was never outside of the top ten during those Super Bowl years. Their success was, in part, due to having an overabundance of great defensive lineman. The Cowboys never went to a Super Bowl without a Hall of Fame defensive Lineman. HOFer Bob Lilly (Dallas from 1961-1974) went to two Super Bowls, HOFer Randy White (Dallas from 1975-1988) went to three Super Bowls, and in a short 5-year stint with the Cowboys, HOFer Charles Haley won three Super Bowls while anchoring a defense that averaged the third fewest points per season. Since their last Super Bowl in 1996, the Cowboys have had their share of Pro Bowlers, with players like La'Roi Glover, Jay Ratliff, and DeMarcus Lawrence, but it is the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s that really carry their legacy at the defensive line position.
A case can be made for…
Bills
Key Players: Bruce Smith (HOF, career sacks leader), Kyle Williams, Fred Smerlas, Marcell Dareus
Eagles
Key Players: Reggie White (HOF, 2nd all-time in career sacks) Fletcher Cox, Charlie Johnson, Hugh Douglas

I hope to be working on some new analyses and OC in the off-season, but things at home have been super busy and I haven't had the time. So although this is recycled content for me, you all have not seen it yet (the charts were probably pasted here, but the not words). If you like this, I'll make this into a series rolling it out position by position over the off-season. (I think I did QB about 6 months ago on here).

There's never a dull day in crypto and never a dull week with Safemoon. John Baloney continues his slow rugpull of Safemoon investors. In the last episode we saw how Baloney used skimmed off funds from Safemoon into his Safemoon company that Safemoon "investors" have no rights or claim to. The company "procures" (what amounts to effectively stealing) funds from the Safemoon project as and puts it in the Safemoon company that is supposed to produce products and services for Safemoon investors, but...there's been next to nothing of substance produced after years of promises which the company has produced loads of funds from the Safemoon project.
After promising "investors" he was going to Washington to speak with representatives, and could only produces photos of him alone in a park or meeting with a flag, Baloney has now used some of these funds to prop up his name and ego once again, by buying an article and mention in the magazine Monaco Voice 40 Under 40. This magazine is well-known for paid articles and well-funded shilling.
Monaco Voice describes 40 Under 40 as a "prestigious list celebrates the rise of the next generation of leaders who are shaping the world we live in."

"The Defender". What is this even? If he is the Defender who is going to defend us from him and the constant lies and broken promises and still-ongoing slow rug. It actually gets worse.

Honestly...who wrote this....they gargling way too hard off Baloney. This is CLEARLY a paid article. Even if it wasn't, this is a SUPREME level of bias. Prodigy? ground-breaking achievements? Safemoon is a global powerhouse? Trailblazing? Where the heck did civil rights come from?
Pioneering? What is pioneering about Safemoon's Orbital shield? It uses a username/password login system which so many users complain about not being able to login. On top of which they call it secure when they were literally hacked for 10% of the entire market cap because users could easily burn other users tokens. It talks about social change and economic empowerment when the only social change is depressed and even more broke traders who invested and the only ones it empowered economically was Baloney himself, and some team members.
What an absolute joke.

2023.06.10 13:31 EffectSubstantial909 Lost Terran - 6

6
Franz learns about the place he found himself as it turns out he found himself in one of the core worlds owned by a space faring civilization.
More than that there’s countless alien civilizations outside of the one he’s in, apparently he’s now in the Cret Republic despite having nobles running the Senate it still calls itself a republic.
Interestingly one thing Franz noticed is that the gender ratio leans heavily on the female side, strangely enough it’s not just the Cre’taxsians that has strange gender ratio all of the civilization has this over the top gender ratio, there are several times more female per one male.
Anyways today he’s meeting with a Senator
The door slides open and a familiar face appears
‘Isn’t that the women with the fancy coat?’ Franz thought
“Greetings, I hope that you’ve been treated well?”
“Oh yes the people here are very accommodating”
She smiles then said “really? I’m glade to hear that, from what I heard you seems hesitant to share information about your species”
“I hope that you’ll be understanding in the fact that I’m simply safeguarding my specie from any potential threats”
“I trust that you’ve learned enough in these past few days that the Cre’taxsian people are an honorable race and would want nothing more then to find allies in a hostile galaxy”
‘Well shit she knows how to play with words’ Franz thought as he’s currently in their “care” he can’t just say “your republic is crab” he’ll have to be neutral/skeptical at most and agreeing at worst.
“The Cret Republic is indeed a fine nation with honorable traditions and have earned some level of trust”
At Franz’s reply she smiles as she just won her first minor victory. The former general and currently a Senator believes that it’ll only be a matter of time before the male in-front of her opens up.
“Really? Can you tell me something about your species?”
“Our home world is called Earth and it’s the 3rd planet form our Sun and from what I tell from the information I was given it’s classified as a super high gravity world by galactic standards”
The Senator seemingly nods at the revelation that his species is from a high gravity world as it would explains how his high strength and how he was able to have such large leaps.
Like so far no intelligent species have been found to be from a super high gravity world, that would mean that humans are the first intelligent species to be known to inhabit a super high gravity planet, those would make establishing a diplomatic relations with his species even more important.
Even one of their males is able to tear 3 Hasperax mechs just imagine what an army of them could do?
As a former general Jil’adamas could imagine how terrible it would be if there was a stick force of such individuals.
“So can you tell me where your worlds is located at?”
‘She seems to think that humans is a spacefaring civilization… well … she’s not exactly wrong…. It’s just that the Mars base only has like 20 or so people’ Franz thought
“As I have previously explained I didn’t study Astronomy so can’t even find the general direction of my home even if O wanted to”
“What about your society? How does your people live?”
“ Our society is a “Patriarchal” society, it’s a society where male are the dominant gender”
At the revelation the Senator’s eyes turns wide as even the scientists listening outside also turns wide.
Then a commotion happens outside
“(Woooooo)” “(Oh my goddess~)”
a female scientist who has a masochist fetish exclaimed while another whistles
“Patriarchal” is a fictional society that was believed to only appears in novels but here it is! The dream of every herbivore females!
(Just think of male’s response to Femdom genre. Most men would be like “ohhh yeah” to the thought being pushed down by a female)
Bonk
“(You perverted bitch!)” yelled the head scientist as she bonks the degenerate staff’s head
As the head scientist quells the commotion outside back in the room.
The Senator coughs before asking “you’re not joking are you?”
“I’m not speaking in jest, Earth has always been a traditionally male dominated society”
“(Oh My Goddess!)” “(So Male dominated species does exists!?)” “(Wooooo)” “(Wooooo)”
That revelation is followed by a bunch of wooing and whistling outside the room.
It is fill by a bunch of bonking noises as the head scientist reigns in her staff the majority of which are single and are desperately trying to find a mate.
The Senator’s eyes frowns before asking “and your male based society has no problems ruling?”
The Senator has assumed that the gender ratio of Earth to be similar to the rest of the galaxy. One male per 10 females.
“In humans males has always been much stronger then females, there has been movement to change that in recent years but by and large Earth is still a male dominated society”
The Senator nodded recalling how this one male defeated 30 elite enforcers, 3 Hasperax enforcer mechs and 2 Pretorian commandos .
The Senator is currently imagining a small team of human males suppressing revolts.
She’s imagining that Earth is an authoritarian state where superhuman males ruling over a vast number of weaker females.
The Senator has her own bias towards males as a patriarchal society is until now just a fantasy.
That’s how she interpreted Franz’s words.
“So how does your people run country?”
‘Well time for some bullshiting’ Franz thought
“There’s the UN which encompasses all the significant human nations states”
Franz it trying to make the UN sound much much more powerful then it actually is, in actuality the UN is a joke!
Like China is a life time member of its Human rights council, it’s resolutions are just words and has no binding power, it’s criminal court are filled with corruption and most of the world in particular major powers just ignores them entirely.
The UN is nothing more then just a show for nations to pretend that they’re cooperating when they’re clearly are not.
“I see so what does this UN do?”
“The UN’s purposes is to maintain stability and security, develop friendly relations among nation state members, achieve internal cooperation, and serve as a centre for diplomatic dialogues.”
She raises her brow at his explanation as his explanation didn’t tell her anything! Which is the point cuz the UN doesn’t do anything.
“You said members nations? Can you tell me about them?”
“The 5 major members states that are permanently seated at UN’s “Supreme” council.
The British Commonwealth (yes, the Brits got their act together), the Fifth French Republic, the United States, People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation”
“From the names I can tell they have different types of government” The Senator commented
“The British Commonwealth is a Parliamentary Monarchy, the United States is a Constitutional Republic, The Fifth French Republic is a Parliamentary Republic, China is a Socialist Republic and the Russian Federation is a Federal Republic ”
Franz tried to make it sound as compatible with the Cret Republic by omitting the undesirable parts in some of them, Franz also tried to make it sounds like the governments would be too complicated to explain so that he can just brush off any attempts to get further information.
“Can you explain how they function?”
“Too complicated to explain”
“I… see” she replied before narrowing her eyes.
At this time point the scientist sent a massage to the Senator requesting access to his devices.
“The chief scientist seems to have taken an interest in your devices and would like to examine them in detail”
‘She must mean my iPhone’ Franz thought
“I would politely decline these ”
“Might I know why”
“Those are my personal items and contains valuable memories from my homeland”
“I promise you that the scientist team are the finest on this world so you can rest assured”
Then Franz looks at the door and ever so slightly tilts his head making sure to give the impression of “yeah right” just a few seconds ago there was hooting outside.
“I’m sorry but I’m not ganna risk it”
—————————————
Meanwhile outside the room
Slam
‘These degenerates! Look at what they’ve done! I’m ganna give them a good scolding later’
With his reply the head scientist who was listening in slams her fist in her desk then she angrily stares her staff.
Her staff trembles as they know they’re ganna get it after this.
————————————
Back inside the room
They continues a bit of small talk Franz still trying to be as vague as possible while the Senator trying to get as much information as possible, unfortunately Franz is trained as a diplomat so accidentally let something slip.
“Electronics?” The Senator asked curiously as pretty much everyone uses photon based computers with the exception of a few select species that uses biological/chemical computers, those species tended to be hive species.
‘Shit!’ Franz cursed at himself before deciding to concede this one to them
“Yes, I’ve noticed that the computers here seems to be photon based, back home computers are almost entirely electrical electrical based using Electrons instead of Photons”
That came as major surprise as of what he said is true then what Franz has in his pocket is a the first example of a functional electrical computer that has only been thought as theoretical before.
‘Judging by the way he operates it its seems comparable to our datapad, which means that their electrical technology is fairly mature’ the head scientist thought as she can’t wait to get her hands in his device.
The head scientist urges the Senator to do something to get that device.
Of course the Senator knows the implications of such a discovery.
“The head scientist seems to really want to examine your device” the Senator commented again.
“I’ll decline again but certain other arrangements could be made”
“Oh?” The perked the Senator’s ears
“I heard that you have something called discovery and research rights, in which the ones that made the discovery gets a royalty every time their discovery or research is used or referenced in something that produces monetary value”
Cre’taxsian nobility works in multiple different ways.
There’s the land nobles that lives off people using their lands, military generals that would be awarded with lands upon completion of their term there by becoming a nobility and the scientists who made great discoveries are awarded with the title of nobility.
Of course the title in of itself would be useless if they still lived a pauper’s life after they made a great contribution so there’s a thing called discovery and research rights in which they get royalties every time someone uses their research.
These rights can be inherited and any research based their’s, they will also get a cut.
It is at this moment that the Senator realizes the implications of Franz’s demands as her eyes went wide.
Franz is basically demanding a nobility title.
Of course Franz didn’t put too much weight on the title, what he really cares is that money.
Franz is a materialist he’s not a wanker like Diogenes who can be happy living in a pot and wanking in front stranger.
you can have all the honor in the world but it would mean nothing of you can’t even eat a single piece of bread.
“You realize the implications of your request right?”
“I’m just making sure human achievements are appropriately “appreciated”. Of course the choice is always yours to not accept this deal but this deal is pretty fair and even advantageous to you even”
She is silent for a moment before
“Very well but it’ll have to be verified first before you can have the right”
“Sure I’ve got no problem with that we can work out the details later, in the mean time I’ve also taken an interest in your intellectual rights in particular the one pertaining to creative entertainment.”
Seeing that the Senator having a puzzled look Franz continues on “you see my mobile device has a collection of human entertainment and I’m thinking releasing some of them. Naturally I expect to be compensated appropriately”
His phone has 230 petta byte of storage data and speeds of 2 exaFlops. Tens thousands of 8k videos of various shows, movies and documentaries, it also has his own personal collection of games on it too.
He was stationed in a 3rd world country where internet was limited so he downloaded a lot of movies into his phone before he got sent there.
(Franz is from 50 years into the future, our phones now has more capacity then the classrooms size computer 50 years ago. I’m basing the states of Franz’s future iPhone on what came up on the top results of a 5 second google search)
(1 Petta byte is 1,000,000 Giga byte. An hour of 8K movie takes around 40 Gb of memory. Right now a AAA game in 4k takes about 25 to 50 Gb with some taking 100Gb. So if just change it to 8K the game would be 200Gb, it’s the future so games would be much more complicated so it should enter into the Terra byte range)
The Senator didn’t think much of it and agrees to it without much hassle as how much can such a tiny device contain anyway?
“That can be arranged”
The rest of the conversation pretty much went smoothly after that.

Daily Minors Quick-Notes 6/9/23 - Crawford hits his first pro home run
Phew…the first 8-game day in the Giants farm system this season! Reggie Crawford is viewed more as a pitcher, but he hit his first pro home run as the DH for San Jose today. Plus, Will Wilson had his biggest game of the season, hitting two home runs in one game. And Kai-Wei Teng looked like who he was in April, finally.

AAA: Sacramento 9, Las Vegas 8

Sacramento Notes:
  • Sacramento survived Las Vegas on Friday night, after the Aviators made a huge rally to almost win the game. Will Wilson helped put Sacramento in the lead with two home runs, and was up 9-4 headed to the 9th. Cole Waites broke his streak after getting just one out, and allowing a double, a single, and three walks, including a bases loaded walk to give up a pair of runs while he was on the mound, making it 9-6. Nick Swiney came in and gave up a 2-run single to let it be a one-run game, but Swiney got a fly out and a game-ending strikeout to hang on.
  • Third baseman Will Wilson went 2-for-2 with two walks and, more importantly, two home runs. That’s three home run in two games for Wilson, giving him nine on the season. Wilson has gone 6-for-19 (.316) with the three home runs, with three walks and four strikeouts in the month of June. Overall, he’s batting .219/.294/.401 on the year.

https://twitter.com/RiverCats/status/1667366370000920578?s=20
  • DH Clint Coulter was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. That gives Coulter eight doubles and four home runs on the season. His batting line is .241/.342/.361 on the season.
https://twitter.com/RiverCats/status/1667369969364131840?s=20
  • Shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth home run in Triple-A. Fitzgerald now has six home runs overall, including his 19 games in Double-A. In Sacramento, Fitzgerald is batting .317/.390/.500 after 25 games, with five doubles, a triple, and four home runs.
https://twitter.com/RiverCats/status/1667388847561510914?s=20
  • Luis Matos was 1-for-3 with two walks on the day, and picked up his fifth steal. That gives Matos seven walks against eight strikeouts in 21 games at Sacramento, and moved up his batting line to .379/.422/.579.
  • Starting pitcher Kyle Harrison had a mixed game, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, but only allowed one walk, which is a big improvement. He struck out six. The one walk is just the second time in the last six games where he’s allowed less than three walks. His ERA nudged down to 3.40, and he now has 72 strikeouts to 35 walks in 42.1 innings. This is Harrison’s 10th consecutive game with at least 5 strikeouts, which is the longest streak in all of Triple-A.
  • It was a rough game for Cole Waites, who allowed runs for the first time since returning to Sacramento on May 16th. He allowed four runs on two hits and three walks in just 0.1 innings, with a strikeout. His Triple-A ERA jumped back up to 6.41 from 4.66.
  • Nick Swiney made the save (quite literally), though he gave up two inherited runners that went on Waites’ record. He struck out one and gave up a hit in 0.2 innings. It was Swiney’s first career save in three pro seasons, though he worked mostly as a starter in the first two. His Triple-A ERA is down to 4.09 with eight strikeouts to five walks in 11.0 innings.

AA: Altoona 4, Richmond 3

Richmond Notes:
  • Kai-Wei Teng had his best start in weeks, but a couple of late runs led to this Richmond loss. Teng allowed just two runs in his five innings, and left the game with Richmond up 3-2. But the Curve picked up a run in the 8th on an RBI double to tie the game, then one more run in the 9th to take the loss.
  • Riley Mahan had the biggest hit for Richmond, going 1-for-3 withe a 2-run home run, and had a walk and a steal. Mahan has gone just 3-for-28 (.107) in June, but two of those hits have been home runs. He’s got a batting line of .191/.225/.401 overall this season.
https://twitter.com/GoSquirrels/status/1667312087113035776?s=20
  • Left fielder Carter Aldrete was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base. That gives Aldrete 11 steals on the year, to go with six home runs. They are his first extra-base hits in June, in which he’s gone just 5-for-29. Overall this season, he’s got a batting line of .253/.305/.409.
  • Third baseman Jimmy Glowenke was 2-for-4 with a double. Since his promotion to Double-A, Glowenke is 8-for-29 (.276) with two doubles, and one walk to six strikeouts. His batting line sits at .276/.300/.345.
  • Teng looked like the April version of himself, scoring two runs in 5.0 innings, on four hits and two walks, but most notably struck out eight. The eight strikeouts are his highest since he had that many on April 22nd.
https://twitter.com/GoSquirrels/status/1667322748065001474?s=20
  • In relief, Matt Frisbee struck out four without allowing any baserunners in 2.0 innings. It’s Frisbee’s first strikeouts in his last three appearances, though that was just 1.1 innings before this game. On the year, he’s got 21 strikeouts to eight walks in 24.1 innings.

High-A: Tri-City 4, Eugene 2

Eugene Notes:
  • Eugene just couldn’t get the hits and runs in a 4-2 game. Eugene’s first run came in the 2nd inning, getting a run that came in on a double play, and got an RBI single in the 3rd to give Eugene a 2-1 lead. But Tri-City tied it up in the 4th, and scored runs in the 7th and 9th innings to win.
  • Logan Wyatt led the team in hitting by going 2-for-4 with a double. It’s Wyatt’s first multi-hit game since May 28th. He now has nine doubles and seven home runs, leading to a .254/.359/.416 batting line.
  • Right fielder Carter Howell was 1-for-4 with a triple. Howell now has two triples and a double in nine games since his promotion to High-A. His Eugene batting line is .324/.375/.459 after batting .337/.398/.500 in San Jose after 39 games.
  • Brett Auerbach made his Eugene debut after getting demoted from Richmond, and went 0-for-1 with three walks and a steal. In 45 games at Richmond, Auerbach hit .153/.211/.190 with three doubles and one home run, and six steals in ten attempts.
  • Starting pitcher Nick Sinacola gave up two runs on six hits and a walk in 3.1 innings, and struck out five. After Sinacola had a 10.06 ERA in May, but has a 3.68 ERA in two starts in June, with 10 strikeouts and one walk in 7.1 innings. Overall, his ERA is 5.23 over 12 games.
  • 28-year old Tanner Kiest made his Eugene debut (and just second Giants appearance overall after signing as a free agent on May 30th), and he struck out two in 1.2 innings without allowing a baserunner.

Low-A: San Jose 9, Visalia 4

San Jose Notes:
  • San Jose used a big inning to come back and take this game from Visalia. The Rawhide were up 3-0 after four innings, but San Jose scored a run in the 5th. But in the 6th inning, Reggie Crawford’s 2-run home run was part of a 5-run rally that put San Jose up for good.
  • Reggie Crawford was 2-for-5 with his first professional home run, in his sixth game as a hitter. He’s 3-for-12 (.25) with a double and a home run, with no walks and three strikeouts.
https://twitter.com/MLBPipeline/status/1667377645581991936?s=20
  • Center fielder Turner Hill was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Hill is 11-for-36 with four doubles, with three walks and five strikeouts, plus six steals in eight games. He’s got a line of .306/.359/.417.
  • Second baseman Jose Ramos was 1-for-3 with a walk, a HBP, and his 17th steal of the season. In 48 games, Ramos now has 17 steals in 18 attempts, but with a batting line of .215/.319/.331, and has 23 walks to 46 strikeouts.
  • Starting pitcher Manuel Mercedes gave up three runs in 4.0 innings, on three hits and three walks, with three strikeouts. Mercedes has a 2.66 ERA after 11 games (eight starts), but has just 28 strikeouts in 44.0 innings, with 14 walks.
  • Julio Rodriguez went 2.0 scoreless innings, with five strikeouts and a walk. It’s two straight scoreless games, not long after he allowed six in less than an inning. He has a 5.82 ERA with 27 strikeouts to 11 walks in 21.2 innings.

ACL Giants Black Notes:
  • Lazaro Morales was in center field and played second base as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. That was his first hit in four games, so he’s 1-for-12 (.083), though he has three walks and six strikeouts.
  • DH Donovan Walton also had a double, going 1-for-3 with a walk in his first game of his rehab assignment. The 29 year old had time last season with both Tacoma and Sacramento, and was acquired in May 2022 in exchange for Prelander Berroa.

Final Note
As you may have heard, SFGiants is going private on June 12th and June 13th as part of the protest on Reddit’s changes to 3rd Party APIs, and the subsequent behaviors of Reddit’s administrators.
Although the subreddit is going private, but will still be available to those users who are approved, I will not be participating on those days as part of the protests.
However, on June 12th and June 13th, if you’d like to follow along, I do post these Minor League Quick-Notes on my website, GiantFutures.com. I prefer not to use these post to advertise my site, but in these special circumstances I figure it’s fair to share. I do not have advertisements on the site nor do I make any profit off of it. But if you’d like to read the posts over there, I invite you to join. I’ll be back posting the Quick Notes here on SFGiants on Wednesday, June 14th.

2023.06.10 06:00 AutoModerator Weekly Advice Thread 10/06/2023

Welcome to the WAT, summoner! Post questions regarding team composition, content progression, game mechanics, or anything else in this thread. If you are able to help your fellow summoners, please take some time to contribute to the community and answer some questions yourself as well!
A lot of helpful guides and resources can be found in the subreddit mega wiki.

If you ask a question please give ALL relevant information!

  • Your monster box: Upload a screenshot to Reddit directly or an image hosting site like imgur or use swarfarm. Sort your box by "Grade" and try to include all 4*s and LD nat 3*s.
  • Your current progression: Where you currently are in the game, what your teams are, what content you need help with and what you have tried so far.
  • For ToA, which enemies are on the floor you're stuck on.
  • For PvP, indicate what rank you are trying to achieve, i.e. currently F3 want to get C1 Arena. For RTA also share your rank percentage.
The less people have to clarify or look up to help you, the more likely you will get a fast response.

Beginner friendly/farmable PvE teams

Recommended progression: GB10 -> ToAN -> GB12 -> ToAH -> (DB11 ->) NB12 -> R5 and Rifts
Fast progression: GB12 -> (DB11 ->) NB12 -> BJ5 -> Tricaru DB12
Note that for NB12 a few violent sets (especially on twins) are making things a lot easier so before tackling Necropolis you might want to farm a little bit of DB11, it also gives you Guard runes for Tricaru.
  • GB10: Vero (L), Fran, Loren, Lapis, Shannon/second awakened (2A) Kro
  • Legacy GB10 teams typically include Belladeon, Bernard, or Darion. These units are outdated and can be skipped.
  • GB12: Vero (L), Fran, Loren, 2A Kro, Shannon/Lapis/2A Naomi
  • DB12: Verde (L), Fran, Loren, Sig, Elsharion or Verde (L), Vero, Fran, Loren, Spectra (2A)
  • PB10: Verde (L), Colleen/Fran, 2A Raoq, 2A Kro, 2A Spectra/Yen/Pang. You can also use 2A Jultan to tank the boss (on multiple Will sets).
  • SB10: Fran, Loren, 2A Kro, 2A Raoq, Ling Ling
  • NB12: Lapis (L), Colleen/Fran, Loren, 2A Raoq, 2A Kro/Raoq (NB10 guide). Twins are a much better choice and should be used if possible. You can also directly use Tricaru.
  • ToA(H): Fran (L), Lapis, Verde, Loren, Vero/2A Kro/2A Spectra. Use Tyron if you have him. 2A Sath/Thrain are good options if you want to go for a dot team, do not use Baretta as he's terribly outdated.
  • R5: Front Line: Xiong Fei, Darion Back Line: Colleen, 2A Kro, Tesa, Theo/Xiao Lin/Belladeon
  • R5 stat minimum: You need 25k HP and 1.5k DEF for FL units and 20k HP and 0.8-1k DEF for BL units. Healers and your cleanser should have 100% RES after lead.
  • Rift unit options: Xiao Lin, Theomars, Fran, Colleen, and 2A Kro can be used in most of your rift teams. FL Mav/Bernard is good for Water rift and Lapis is good for Fire and Dark rifts. Twins are great in all rifts.
You still need appropriate rune quality and turn order! Do not expect to beat a dungeon just by having these units

Common speed teams

  • R5 - BJ5: Colleen, Baleygr, Janssen, Dagora, Loren, lead unit (BJ5 guide)
  • DB12 - Tricaru: Verde (L), 2A Icaru, 2A Icaru, 2A Icaru (guide (Note: DEF requirement is 3300)) (Cheatsheet) (Calculator)
  • NB12 - Tricaru: Either add Astar or replace Verde with her (on vamp, same stats). Adding Astar and Lushen to clear waves first also works.
  • GB12 - dots dots dots: 2A Sath, Mellia, Mellia, 2A Tatu, dot unit/Lushen (guide)
  • PB10 - Tricaru: Kill towers first (usually L>R>B but some people reported R>L>B working better for them).
  • SB10 - dots dots dots: 2A Sath, Mellia, Mellia, 2A Tatu, dot unit/Lushen

PvE accuracy requirements

Rifts need no ACC. R5 needs 15%. SB10 needs 25%. PB10 39%. ToA(H), GB10, and NB10 45%. DB10, GB12, NB12 and ToA Hell 55%. DB12 needs 65%.

General tips and answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

  • NEVER feed non-farmable monsters! (you can feed dupes for skill ups)
  • Save your devilmons! In general you do not want to give devilmon to 4* units, Sigmarus and Jeanne are the best early game candidates. Veromos does not need devilmon.
  • Best summon stone targets: Tyron, Lushen, Shaina, Sabrina, Talia. For PvP Khmun, Skogul, Galleon.
  • Check the events for free energy, mana, and other beneficial stuff. To find the current event pages use the button below the energy/mana counter in-game.
  • Lapis can farm Faimon Hell on the free 6* level 15 vampire/revenge runes provided by the challenges. She should be your first 5* and probably 6* as well.
  • Shield sets can reduce the HP/DEF requirements on other units and multiple shield sets will stack to form one larger total shield. Each set contributes a shield equal to 15% of the base HP of the monster they are equipped on.
  • White artifacts from B2 are cheap to upgrade and can give you a massive stat boost early.
  • Hall of Heroes (HoH) should be attempted as high as you can climb. Reps like Rica or Verad can help a lot. Mid/late game players can get 5 extra copies of the HoH monster using almighty scroll pieces after each floor at the small cost of 2000 guild points for each extra monster.
  • Most nat 5*s are PvP exclusive and should be set aside in storage till you make some progress on PvE. Some exceptions are CC units like Rica for ToA, cleansers like Anavel for starter R5, and Perna for rifts.
  • Dimensional hole energy should be spent as soon as possible, always try to stay under the energy cap (recharge rate: 1 per 2h). 2A Kro first, then Spectra or Raoq.

2023.06.10 01:15 CringeyVal0451 Two Girls, One Cuck (Funky P. Beard, Part 6)

Chapter 6: Two Girls, One Cuck
Me: Is he always like this during gaming weekends, or is this all my fault?
Athena: He’s always ranting and raving about his crusade of the week. And he usually gets into a screaming match with Mori over something dumb. But this is some next-level rage.
Sage (to Athena): You ummm... told...
Athena: She knows, babe. She already knew.
Sage: Okay. So sorry about that, by the way.
Me: It’s fine. It’s nothing new.
Sage: He usually has some nasty chick come over on Friday or Saturday. They go... do whatever they do, and then he comes back either completely chill or completely enraged. And fucking RANK.
Me: Maybe I should have packed his fleshlight for him.
Axton: Why the hell does he need a fleshlight when he’s got you?
Me: Oh, he hardly ever tries to do anything with me. And the last few times he tried; he was too plastered.
Snorlax: Whisky wang?
Me: Bingo.
Axton: That’s criminally negligent. Do you need a hug?
I smiled. “It’s fine. The whisky wang lets me off the hook. But I’m not gonna turn down a hug.”
I crawled over to him and let his arms envelop me. As I had been starved for affection for nearly a year, this was better than sex. Underneath the general aura of cigarette smoke and whiskey that permeated the room, I could smell his skin. It was intoxicating. So I nestled into that rare, delicate balance of euphoria and tranquility until we heard the back door open and close. Axton and I scrambled to opposite sides of the room. But it was just Mori.
Mori (grinning mischievously): What did I walk in on?
Athena: Nothing that would excite you, Mori.
Mori approached me and sat down. “I think he’s chilled out. Right now, he just needs to know that you’re not mad at him. Are you up for going to talk to him.”
I blinked. “I am mad at him. I’m embarrassed. And anything I say to him is just gonna piss him off.” Plus, I was high as a fucking kite on Adderall and affection. “Let me think about it for a minute?”
I considered a novel approach. After the puke-inducing fight that he’d had with Mori last night, they had made peace. I decided I would mimic Mori’s actions and try call a truce with as few words as possible, which would ideally prevent FPB wasting hours playing the victim and assassinating my character.
Me: I’ll let him know that it’s chill. That’s all I can do.
Mori nodded.
I headed for the back door and stepped onto the porch.
Me: FPB?
He grunted. He was sitting slumped in a chair on the porch, smoking a cigarette. I moved around so that I was standing in front of him and I offered my hand.
Me: Peace?
FPB: From now on, you only talk to Athena and Sage. No talking to ANY of the single dudes.
He was pointing his cigarette at me and punctuating each phrase with a little jab of the cherry in my direction.
Me: That’s not reasonable. Would you prefer it if I just left? How am I supposed to play if I’m not allowed to talk to half the people on the team? Or the GM?
FPB: Then you only talk about game-related stuff. Mori’s junk doesn’t go anywhere near you, you don’t share beer with Snorlax, and you don’t so much as look at pretty boy, Axton.
Me: If it’s game-related stuff, Axton’s the one I need to be talking to the most. You talk to Snorlax when we’re planning an attack.
FPB: That’s different.
Me: HOW?
FPB: Because Snorlax isn’t trying to get in my PANTS.
So much for a succinct truce. I decided to try and steer the conversation in a different direction.
Me: I’m being serious. I tagged along this weekend so that I could try to have FUN learning to play this game you love so much. (I extended my hand more fervently.) Peace?
FPB: Swear to me that you won’t so much as look at that jizz-mopping pretty boy.
Me: Only if you swear to me that some girl didn’t come over here to hook up with you last night.
FPB went white.
Me: It is what it is. But if you get to receive booty calls here, I’m allowed to interact with your friends. ALL of them.
FPB grunted dismissively.
I wanted to say, “If you’re allowed to LICK, I’m allowed to LOOK.” Again, I refrained from deliberately angering FPB out of respect for the other people whose time was being disrupted by his rage. And he was no longer snarling and shouting. That was as about as good as it was gonna get. I went back inside and took my seat. Everyone looked at me, appearing anxious to hear what had happened.
Me: Well, he had some unreasonable demands... I refused them. But I think he’s calm enough to play again. No promises.
FPB slammed the back door and trudged back to his assigned seat.
Mori: Axton and Sage, please trade places.
FPB: Why? Do you think I’m gonna...
Mori held up his magic Funky-silencing hand. “My run, my rules.”
It was FPB’s roll. It wound up being successful. Very successful. As he entered the media station, a swarm of heavily armed guards surrounded him, but he managed to obliterate all of them, wielding a sword in one hand and an SMG with homing bullets in the other hand. This might have been just the thing we all needed to calm his ass down!
Mori: Show of hands for all who consider this an epic success!
We all voted affirmatively.
Mori: Then my Assistant GM shall prepare the finest tincture in the land for our supreme Street Samurai, Funky P. Beard.
Sage soon returned with a shot of Johnny Walker Blue. FPB sniffed it deeply, toasted to the team, and slugged it back in one gulp. I think I even saw a small smile on his face, although it was hard to tell underneath that behemoth of a beard.
I exhaled and felt myself relax as much as I could with Adderall fueling my wakefulness. I planned a super sick (albeit risky) complex action, rolled, and... got hit with Tar Baby. That was a giga-glitch.
FPB looked over at me with menacing eyes. But I had an idea.
Mori: OP, come accept a staff punishment!
Me: Game Master... Sir? FPB, our epically successful Samurai, suggested to me that I should kiss Athena instead of kissing your staff.
I glanced nervously at Athena. She was giggling. Good. I hadn’t offended her. I also glanced nervously at Sage. He was grinning from ear to ear. Good. I hadn’t offended him, either.
Mori pretended to ponder...
Mori: ACCEPTABLE! You shall kiss for 15 seconds. Assistant GM, you keep time.
Sage: No way, dude. I’m watching.
Snorlax: I’ll do it. No promises that I’ll keep my eyes on the timer.
FPB growled at him.
Athena and I turned to each other, trying to keep from laughing. This was nothing new to me. I had kissed girls onstage, at theatre parties, during games of truth or dare... And I was confident that this wouldn’t anger FPB in the slightest. If anything, it might put him in a better mood.
Snorlax: 3... 2... KISS!
Everything was fine at first. Athena was giggling, which made me giggle, but we kept our lips locked. Then, after only a few seconds... she seemed to vanish. I opened my eyes and saw that FPB had grabbed her, pulled her away, and was now dragging her to the corner of the War Room near the staircase.
FPB: YOU WICKED THUNDER-SEE-YOU-NEXT-TUESDAY! HOW DARE YOU KISS MY GIRLFRIEND?!?!
With an almost feline stride, Sage crossed the room and put FPB in a chokehold. FPB was screeching and furiously thrashing about, but Sage seemed to be trained in martial arts (couldn’t tell you which one, specifically).
FPB: OP, YOU’RE A DEMENTED SLUT. I KNOW YOU’VE BEEN HOOKING UP WITH AXTON. I KNOW YOU AND MORI HAVE BEEN SNORTING COKE OFF EACH OTHER’S ASSES. NOW YOU’RE KISSING GIRLS, TOO! I SHOULD MA...nhjsnjvB...SVJLjvvvvvv... And then he passed out.
Silence fell over the War Room.
Mori: So... You wanna go snort coke off my ass?
I laughed. “I’m good with the Addy, Mori. But thank you.”
I glanced over at Axton, and he raised his eyebrows, silently making the follow-up to Mori’s joke. I felt the corners of my mouth involuntarily turn upwards and I raised my eyebrows in return.
But the beard stirred. Sage was still in full attack mode and Athena stood by at a safe distance. I crossed the War Room and asked if FPB had hurt her. She shook her head.
Athena: No, I’m fine. I just don’t want another fight to break out.
Me: I’m so sorry. I had no idea he’d get mad about THAT.
Athena: Right?! What’s wrong with him? I thought all guys liked to watch girls kiss.
Mori made his way over to a defeated FPB and an enraged Sage.
Mori: Gentlemen... Shall we take a break from the planning phase and settle this score with some PVP?
Sage: NO. We’re not settling this in game. Funky P. Beard called my girlfriend a horrible name, he physically attacked her...
Athena: I’m fine, babe. Can we just play without FPB for a while?
Sage: Okay, maybe he didn’t hurt her. But he definitely crossed a line.
Mori: I agree. There should be consequences.
Sage: No dick slaps or looking at your butthole or sitting in your lap as “punishments” this time. Actions have natural consequences. The natural consequences are that he scared my girlfriend, he embarrassed his girlfriend, and he pissed me off. He also disrupted our game, so I assume the rest of you are pissed off?
Before anyone could answer, FPB played the victim and pretended to cry over Sage choking him out after he grabbed Athena and called her that awful name. Nobody cared. Once he realized that he wasn’t getting any sympathy, he began to rage about being forced to watch his girlfriend “cuckold” him and how he was being made to feel like he wasn’t manly since he was offended by the sight of two girls kissing. Mori used the magic Funky-silencing hand and invited the rest of us to express our grievances. He also challenged Funky to take it all in without verbally (or physically) attacking anyone.
Snorlax offered FPB some weed to help him calm down, and FPB launched into an irrational tirade about how much he hated drugs. He also mocked Snorlax for his weight, which isn’t cool. If your personality sucks, your physical appearance is fair game for mockery. Otherwise, it’s just rude. Plus, Snorlax is a cute chubby guy. They do exist.
Axton basically told him he needed to take the stick out of his ass, and FPB barked out some more accusations of lust. In the midst of these accusations, he referred to me as “his property,” and declared that I was too “shallow and FEMALE” to make my own decisions. Axton clenched his fists and took a few steps towards FPB, but Mori intervened and gave a very flowery speech about going outside and letting the fresh air carry away the aggression.
Snorlax followed Axton outside, merrily carrying a bong. The whole thing wrapped up when I said, “I’m not your property. I agreed to be your partner once upon a time, but this isn’t a healthy partnership. I’m out. I’m done trying to be a girlfriend to someone who thinks so little of me.”
This was far from the first time I’d delivered this speech to FPB, so I had it memorized. Of course, it never “hit” the way I hoped it would. FPB wasn’t contrite. He didn’t seem sad to lose me. He seemed, as always, righteously angry over having a possession confiscated. So I went to join Axton and Snorlax on the porch. Athena whispered, “Good for you, girl!” as she followed me out, leaving the principal and the vice principal to deal with the delinquent.
A lot of commotion ensued in the corner of the War Room after FPB muttered a very offensive term for “lesbian” at Athena as she exited. Mori had to physically restrain Sage from beating the tar out of FPB. Mori also apparently got a little excited whist restraining his Assistant GM, and they traded some colorful words. Athena closed the door on the hullabaloo.
The bong was bubbling away and the sweet, skunky scent of gonja filled the air.
Snorlax: Want a hit?
Me: Nah. I feel like I might have to dash any minute now if FPB keeps raging, so I need to keep my head clear.
Axton: You’re not leaving with him, are you?
Me: Hell no! I’ve got my car here, and he’s NOT coming with me if I feel like it’s time for me to ghost.
Axton: Is there any way we can vote his ass off the island and convince you to stay?
I cautiously approached the bench where Axton and Snorlax were sharing the bong. They shifted a little to make room for me, and I sat down next to a still shirtless Axton. Athena pulled up a chair next to the bench and took a tiny flask from the pocket of her PJs and slugged back a few sips of liquid tranquility.
Me: For the sake of the other people on the road, I wouldn’t let his drunk ass get behind the wheel. Does Sage have a soundproof basement where we can lock him up?
Athena: I WISH.
Axton unapologetically threw his arm around my shoulder, and I brazenly laced my fingers through his.
Athena: OP, why did you start dating FPB? That might be too personal...
Me: No, it’s fine. Believe it or not, he was incredibly nice to me at first. He thinks I keep pulling away from him because he’s too nice, but... Let’s just say that he and I have very different definitions of “nice.”
Snorlax: Maybe I’m just high, but I think he was pretty chill when we first formed the team.
Axton: I didn’t join until last year, so I’ve only known him as a raging psycho.
Me: You’re both right. That’s his M.O. He’s nice and normal until he’s secured his place.
Before I had the chance to fully explain my perception of FPB’s uncanny ability to simulate sanity, Sage and Mori stepped onto the porch, with FPB trailing dejectedly behind them.
Mori: We’ve decided to wrap it up for the night. Feel free to get drunk as hell, smoke weed, snort coke off each other’s asses, party like rockstars! We’ll reconvene at noon tomorrow.
But fucking Funky lifted his head and roared, “You’re cheating on me AGAIN???”
Me: I told you, Funky. I’m out. I quit. We’re done. And you hate my living guts, so what the hell do you care???
FPB: I didn’t agree to that. So we’re still together.
Sage: That’s not how breakups work, FPB. And what exactly is your definition of cheating?
FPB: She’s cheated on me with EVERYONE. Except you, Sage. You’re actually the only one I still trust. OP’s a SLUT.
Me: WHEN have I cheated on you?
FPB: You let Mori put his dick on your face...
Me: So did literally EVERYONE here...
Mori: Hell, I’d put it on my own face if I were flexible enough!
FPB: I’m still talking. You also stuck your hand in Mori’s butt crack. You shared a beer with Snorlax. You kissed Athena. And now you’re sitting there canoodling with Pretty Boy in front of everyone. CHEATER.
Mori threw his arm around FPB. “This? Is this a good canoodle, or is your noodle still limp?”
FPB shrugged him off. “Barf me a river, Mori. It’s the intention.”
Mori (hugging FPB around the waist): Okay, suppose I’m imagining going to Pound Town with you right now. (He added a few demonstrative pelvic thrusts.) Does that mean we’ve hooked up?
FPB flailed about until Mori let go of him, bellowed some barely intelligible insults towards everyone, made some random animal noises, and stomped back into the house. As much as I hated to see my new friends on the receiving end of his wrath, I don’t think I would have ever been able to effectively stand up to him without five witnesses to his bizarre behavior who miraculously had my back, despite having a long history of friendship with FPB.
I had tried to discuss our problems with close friends in the past, but FPB would always be on his best behavior in front of them, so I always wound up looking like the asshole. It took the presence of people with whom he felt comfortable enough to stomp around (sans mask) in order to gather witnesses to the insanity. And gather them, I had. I was FREE.

2023.06.10 01:00 Evan_Veet Playoff Stats Deep Dive: Pre-Masters Tokyo

With Master’s Tokyo on the way, I felt like it was the perfect time to revisit something I’ve been very interested in for a while now, and something that gets underrated by many fans in the Valorant community, playoff performance. Similar to how the NBA operates, Valorant has many stars that shine bright in regular season games, but struggle when it matters most (I’m looking at you Joel Embiid).
For this post, I’ve compiled data dating back to Stage 2 Reykjavik in 2021 and took the stats from playoffs of every LAN since then. I defined playoffs as past group stage for every LAN but Lock In and Reykjavik, where I choose to use the games from the last 8 remaining teams. This is why you won’t see stats for players from EDG or Furia, as they have made LANs but never advanced to playoffs.
Methodology:
As previously stated I was only looking at playoff stats, how players play against the top 8 teams in the world at the time. Now I am a man with a job and other social responsibilities, so the statistics are not in-depth, and that’s why I will make a disclaimer right here. This is not a perfect representation of player skill and I am not claiming that my results are gospel, I’m simply having fun and compiling data about my favorite game. Now for how I collected it…
I took the rating from every game of every player of every match played in playoffs. 44190 rounds over 77 games played over 7 LANs. The metric I used was VLR rating, as that is the most accessible site to navigate and the most general stat you can find to correlate player skill. As I said in my disclaimer, this is not a perfect rating, if I was doing something like baseball it would be very easy with something like Wins Above Replacement(WAR), but Valorant doesn’t have that. For now, this will have to do. From there, I took every game that a player played and averaged it out. For players like the old Guild roster(excluding Leo because of his FNC run) it was as simple as averaging two different games and coming up with a number. For a team like the Optic core, however, it was a 17-game average. In general, using map vs overall game averages had little effect apart from maybe a .01-03 rating difference, and I for sure do not have enough time to go through literally every map. I will also be using 200 rounds as the cutoff point for all of my data, as that includes the G2 core of Avova Nukkye and Mixwell who have been to two playoffs and cuts off Kryptix and V1 who only played once over 2 years ago. Thus…. Onto the data.
The Data:
TL:DR Links
This spreadsheet can summarize all that I am saying. It has data of every player ever and sorts out different categories I will talk about.
First things first: The best of the best
Of all players with 200 or more rounds played, the best-rated playoff player is….
TENZ
With a 1.27 rating over 249 rounds, the Sentinels star duelist is the best performer by .2 points and it’s not too much of a surprise. Tenz has played in 2 playoffs, Stage 2 and 3 of 2021, and amassed 244 kills in 249 rounds over that span. Obviously, his Stage 3 was much worse than his Stage 2, but with the best performance ever at a LAN, it makes sense that he’s at number one.
As for players with over 400 rounds, and who I would truly crown the king of playoff games it's…
CHRONICLE
With an insane 1.25 rating and 620 rounds played, Chronicle is by far the most consistently good player when it matters most. He’s my personal pick for GOAT of the game, and it makes sense why. The only player with 2 championships and one of only 4 to go to three grand finals. Chronicle has done it playing nine different agents across every role, most notably with his Sova, Brim, and Viper. The best flex in the world will be playing in Tokyo with a chance to bolster his crazy numbers even more.
The next two players are probably no surprise, as NATS and YAY round out the top 4. Both considered to be the two best players during their year of terror, Nats boasts a 1.21 rating with Yay at a 1.18. Yay also is tied with Marved for 4th most rounds of all time, only behind the Optic trio that stayed with NRG and played in Lock In “playoffs”. Both are in contention for the highest individual peaks of all time alongside the two ahead of him.
Rounding out the top 10 is:
Scream (1.18)
Leo (1.17)
Sacy (1.15)
Shahzam (1.15)
Cryo (1.14)
Shao, Cned, and Sick tied at (1.12)
Shaz is the only IGL on this list, and surprisingly not a single smokes player is in the top 10, with Mako being the closest at 15th. Duelist and Sova players by far reign supreme, as they account for 10/12 players I listed.
Now for the not so good, the worst performers in the playoffs. With over 200+ rounds the worst performer was…
DELZ1K
The former KRU controller has an abysmal .79 rating over 222 rounds. The sample size is small with only one large showing in a tournament at Champions 2021, but the now free agent was the only player with an under .8 rating. For context, that is nearly the same rating as dephh in 2023.
Of players with over 400 rounds, #1 is ANGE1, but it is kind of unfair since he is an IGL, so of non-IGLs the worst is…
RB
Maybe a surprise to many, but the Korean flex has been awful when it matters most. Boasting 895 rounds played, tied for 9th most, he has a .85 rating, by far the lowest with Jamppi at .93 being the closest non-igl with >400 rounds. He’s someone that’s consistently in the conversation for top 3 flex player, but I’m not sure that’s merited when he’s .12 rating points lower than his closest teammate and IGL.
Some other notable names include:
Ange1 (.8)
FNS (.83)
Shyy (.86)
BcJ and Zekken (.93)
Masters Tokyo
The top 10 players going into Masters Tokyo are
  1. FNC Chronicle 1.25
  2. TL Nats 1.21
  3. FNC Leo 1.17
  4. FNC Derke 1.12
  5. NAVI Shao 1.12
  6. NAVI Cned 1.12
  7. LOUD Aspas 1.11
  8. DRX Mako 1.1
  9. PRX F0rsaken 1.09
  10. LOUD Less/NAVI Suygestu 1.08
TL Sayf additionally has a 1.3 rating from his time with Guild but with just 100 rounds he doesn’t meet the criteria
The bottom 10 players are
  1. NAVI Ange1 .8
  2. NRG FNS .83
  3. DRX Rb .85
  4. TL Jamppi .93
  5. LOUD Saadhak .94
  6. TL Soulcas .96
  7. DRX Stax .97
  8. NRG Victor .97
  9. DRX Buzz .98
  10. NRG Crashies .99
Some surprising names on this list but only 31/60 players have over 200 rounds that are going to Masters Tokyo, so this list features many familiar faces, most surprisingly the NRG duo as well as Buzz.
Ethan at .9 with 108 rounds and s0m at .97 with 78 rounds would also be here.
Teams at Tokyo
On average, the highest-rated team at Tokyo is unsurprisingly Fnatic with a crazy 1.13 avg playoff rating. Liquid comes in at second with a 1.09, likely boosted by prime Nats and Sayf’s low rounds. FUT, EG, EDG, and ASE don’t have enough players to rate, so NRG is the lowest-rated team with an average rating of .97. DRX comes in at second with .98
The most experienced team is NRG with 4175 rounds combined, with DRX and FNC both barely eclipsing 3500 in 2nd and 3rd place. FUT, EDG, and ASE have 0 combined, and EG and T1 both have under 200. By far the most inexperienced 5 teams at the event, with PRX coming in 6th with 1812 rounds.
The best playoff performers not at Tokyo are:
  1. Tenz
  2. Yay
  3. Scream
  4. Sacy
  5. Shahzam
Sacy, Scream and Tenz could all technically make Champions with upset LCQ runs.
Overall Takeaways:
Rb is one of the worst playoff performers and is an anomaly among players that have as much play time as him.
TL, FNC, and NAVI have three of the most talented rosters of all time on paper, all in the same region.
Peak SEN was extremely talented, as was GMB, but only playing 2 LAN playoffs as teams means it’s impossible to truly know how good they could’ve been.
Optic core is definitely hurt by the sheer rounds they’ve played. Marved, Crashies, and Victor all have surprisingly low numbers, but it’s likely because they play so much more than anyone else that their stats regress to a more general mean.
Scream is probably one of the more underrated individuals, and it's a shame this is where his career has gone. Consistently amazing at LAN but has never really had the collection of 5 or an IGL to work with him.
Though not mentioned in this post, D3ffo’s 1.11 ACS in playoffs is crazy, especially considering he was putting up <1 rating during EMEA league play
Conclusion:
So WTF was the point of all of this work?
Well… I don’t really know. It’s not perfect data, but it does give a general idea of some key things to look out for in Tokyo. I think some players are personally very overrated, and some don’t get the respect they deserve when it comes to LAN performances, and this practice did give me some clarity on certain individuals.
Either way, it was a fun exercise and hopefully you’ve at least skimmed through a lot of this. I truly suggest you at least check out this spreadsheet because it shows literally 139 players' worth of data, so your favorite player is likely on this. It also shows some things I didn’t bring up because this is already an essay, like each role at Tokyo and player comparisons. In general, I really like posts like these and hope to see more of them as Tokyo is happening as statistical analysis in Valorant is still very minimal, and this really basic post hopefully makes some people interested.
If you have any questions about literally anything on this post, from a singular player u want to know about to my methodology I’ll try to respond to comments.

Lore:
In the late 19th century, during the unsettling era of the Industrial Revolution, a small farming community nestled deep within the heartland of a forgotten country thrived under the care of a diligent and compassionate farmer named Jonathan Blackwood. As the crops flourished, so did the hopes and dreams of the townsfolk who relied on the bountiful harvest to sustain their humble lives.
Jonathan possessed an uncanny talent for tending to the land, seemingly blessed by nature itself. With his expertise, the fields yielded more than ever before, and the villagers marveled at the abundance of food that spilled forth from the earth. The sight of the flourishing crops enchanted the townsfolk, and their admiration for Jonathan soon transformed into something akin to worship.
However, as the seasons passed, the prosperity that once enveloped the farming community began to wane. The crops withered, livestock perished, and a sense of despair hung heavily in the air. Blighted by a mysterious blight that defied explanation, the town faced an imminent threat of famine.
Desperate to save his beloved community, Jonathan turned to the forbidden arts of the occult. Rumors whispered of his nocturnal excursions to ancient burial grounds, where he sought guidance from the spirits of the departed. Driven by his love for the people who depended on him, Jonathan was willing to do whatever it took to restore the land's fertility and safeguard their futures.
It was during one fateful moonlit night that Jonathan stumbled upon a hidden chamber within an ancient burial mound. Within its depths lay an ornate lantern, its ethereal glow pulsating with a sinister energy. Overwhelmed by a mixture of awe and trepidation, Jonathan cautiously reached out and touched the lantern, and as his fingers brushed against its surface, an unholy pact was forged.
The spirit that inhabited the lantern, a malevolent entity known as Mirage, sought vengeance for its own tragic demise centuries earlier. Empowered by the farmer's desperation, it offered Jonathan a twisted bargain. In exchange for the spirit's guidance and the restoration of the land, Jonathan would become the vessel through which the spirit would unleash its wrath upon the world.
Blinded by his desire to save his community, Jonathan accepted the wicked pact. In that moment, Mirage's essence seeped into his very being, transforming him into a grotesque amalgamation of man and spirit. The once kind-hearted farmer was reborn as The Scarecrow, a twisted figure shrouded in tattered garments and adorned with straw-stuffed limbs, his hollow eyes burning with otherworldly fury.
With the newfound powers granted by Mirage, The Scarecrow returned to his dying community. As he roamed the moonlit fields, the eerie glow of the lantern he now wielded cast long, haunting shadows across the barren landscape. The presence of The Scarecrow alone brought terror to the hearts of the townsfolk, as they realized that their beloved farmer had been irrevocably changed by dark forces.
No longer bound by the limitations of mortal flesh, The Scarecrow's malevolence manifested through the powers of the lantern. As he stalked his prey, the lantern's glow intensified, and an oppressive mist engulfed the surroundings. Within this ethereal fog, the Hunted found their senses dulled, their movements slowed, and their chances of survival diminished.
The Scarecrow reveled in the torment of his victims, deriving sadistic pleasure from their despair. The once benevolent farmer had become an embodiment of fear, a being who lurked within the mist, harvesting the souls of those unfortunate enough to cross his path. The townsfolk's worship had been replaced by fear.

Lore:
In the shadows of the 1970s, when crime and corruption permeated the streets, John Carlson emerged as a seasoned detective with a reputation for his tenacity and resourcefulness. Born and raised in a city plagued by lawlessness, John had a front-row seat to the injustices that unfolded daily. Determined to restore order and bring criminals to justice, he dedicated himself to his work, earning the respect of both his colleagues and the community he served.
John possessed an uncanny ability to uncover the truth, seeing beyond the façade and deciphering the intricate web of lies spun by criminals. His sharp mind and keen instincts made him a formidable adversary to those who sought to evade justice. However, as John delved deeper into the dark underbelly of the city, he unwittingly stumbled upon a secret society that thrived in the shadows—a clandestine organization known as Fog Whisperers.
Fueled by greed and power, Fog Whisperers operated with impunity, pulling the strings behind the scenes, orchestrating crime waves and manipulating key figures within the city. They saw John as a threat, a disruptor who posed a risk to their carefully constructed empire. In a calculated move to eliminate him, they devised a sinister plan.
One fateful night, as John tirelessly pursued a high-profile case, he received an anonymous tip leading him to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. Unbeknownst to him, the tip was a carefully orchestrated trap. As he ventured deeper into the derelict building, he found himself ambushed by a group of masked assailants, agents of the Fog.
A vicious struggle ensued, but John was outnumbered and overwhelmed. Despite his valiant efforts, he was overpowered, beaten within an inch of his life. The assailants, believing they had dealt the detective a fatal blow, left him for dead, disappearing into the night.
However, fate had other plans for John. As his lifeblood seeped from his battered body, he was enveloped by an otherworldly mist, a manifestation of the very darkness he had fought against. In his darkest hour, the fog claimed him, granting him an unexpected second chance at life—but forever tethered to the fog and its twisted realm.
Now one with the fog, John emerged as a hunted survivor, trapped within the nightmarish trials orchestrated by the Fog. His skills as a detective proved invaluable in his quest for survival, enabling him to outsmart and evade the relentless hunters that pursued him. Yet, the line between self-preservation and selflessness became blurred for John. His desire to survive often clashed with his moral compass, as he would not hesitate to use his companions as distractions, ensuring his own escape.
While seen by some as a helpful survivor, John's reputation was marred by his self-serving tendencies. With every trial, he walked a precarious tightrope, balancing survival and the instinct to alert the hunter for his own benefit. His conflicted nature, a blend of resourcefulness and self-interest, painted him as a complex figure among the survivors, one whose actions could be both admired and criticized.
As John ventured deeper into the trials, he was haunted by the shadows of his past, the echoes of the crime-ridden city he had once fought to protect. In the fog's merciless embrace, he sought redemption, an opportunity to atone for the compromises he had made. Lore:
Kris Hackley had always been the embodiment of determination and leadership. As the captain of her local hockey team, she commanded respect and pushed her teammates to their limits. Yet, beneath her strong exterior, Kris harbored a simmering discontent towards those she perceived as unworthy or unfamiliar. It was this disdain that brought her to the fateful trip to the mountain, seeking an escape from the confines of her team and the pressure of her responsibilities. The day started with a hockey game, where Kris once again led her team to victory. But instead of relishing in the triumph, she found herself growing increasingly irritated with her teammates' shortcomings and mistakes. Seeking solace from the persistent frustration, Kris agreed to join her friends—Emma, Ethan, Anthony, Kyler, Kara, and her siblings Jamison and Kayley—for a weekend getaway in the serene mountain retreat. However, tensions began to rise as Anthony introduced a newcomer to the group—Olivia. Kris immediately resented the intrusion, perceiving Olivia as an unwelcome disruption to their tightly-knit circle. Her feelings of superiority and territoriality cast a shadow over the trip, as Kris became increasingly distant and hostile towards Olivia. As the group ventured further into the secluded mountain, their bonds began to strain under the weight of Kris's disdain. Unbeknownst to them, the dark presence of the fog had already begun to weave its way into their lives. It sensed Kris's isolation and resentment, drawing her closer to its clutches. Tragedy struck when Kris, consumed by her own emotions, failed to extend a helping hand to those in need. As they engaged in risky activities, disaster struck one by one. Kris watched in horror as Emma, Ethan, and Anthony succumbed to their fates—severing the already fragile bonds of friendship. Jamison and Kayley, her own siblings, suffered the consequences of her indifference. Overwhelmed with guilt and remorse, Kris found herself separated from the remaining survivors—Olivia and Kyler. Alone in the unforgiving mountain terrain, the fog began to envelop her, offering a haunting embrace that echoed her internal turmoil. In that moment, Kris's fate intertwined with the fog, becoming one with its ethereal realm. Now, as a Hunted survivor, Kris roams the trials, forever trapped within the fog's grasp. Her once fierce determination transformed into a relentless struggle for survival, and her perceived superiority challenged by the enigmatic horrors that lurk in the shadows. The lessons learned from her past failures now guide her, as she navigates the trials with a newfound sense of humility and empathy. Though the memory of her selfishness lingers, Kris's journey through the fog offers her a chance at redemption. She seeks to overcome her former limitations and forge new bonds, recognizing that unity and selflessness are the keys to survival in this twisted fog.

2023.06.09 23:39 manuscritch Better Duplicate Protection/Improve Ultimus Orbs

The duplicate protection in this game is, to be frank, atrocious. While other games will refund you the entire price of duplicates or have systems in place that remove duplicates from the draw pool, the extent of MSF character duplication protection is the Ultimus orb. With it, you need 2000 Ultimus Orb Shards to get one orb that gives around 5 character shards with some stipulations I'll get into. In order to get 2000 Ultimus Orb Shards you need to accumulate around 150 duplicate character shards, or about 20% of a full rank character. That already is a terrible exchange rate, made worse when you do get enough shards and pull down a duplicate character again; which exponentially reduces the value of all the duplicate shards you already used to get the pull in the first place.
A further issue is that the character the orb is named for is a supremely outdated character that doesn't feel good to pull anyway. Ultimus is yet one of many characters in this game that has been power crept out of use and getting him to max rank feels less like an opportunity to improve his power and more like a chance to get a little bit of a discount on the orbs (with at least 2 shards guaranteed to be duplicates). And with the hope of Star Force team or any rework really out the window on the character for the foreseeable future, it feels even worse to get his shards. But this isn't meant to be a rant/complaint post but a suggestion post for the CMs and Devs, so I have a few recommendations.
1) Better exchange rate for character shards: As mentioned at the top, the exchange rate of character shards to Ultimus Orb Shards is abysmal. Getting about 25 shards character shards out of the over 800 duplicates needed to earn enough for an orb makes the whole experience feel bad. Increasing the amount of Ultimus Orb Shards given from duplicates and/or reducing the amount needed for an Ultimus Orb would be the easiest, though still not great, remedy to the problem.
2) Changing the banner character: Opening orbs and seeing that Purple or Gold drop coming down should feel exciting and should invoke positive feeling in relation to the rarity of the event. Ultimus orbs feel like the exact opposite. For most players, when pulling on the Ultimus orb and seeing that 1% drop come down is the worst feeling because either they have maxed him already or simply don't want the character because he does little to help them progress. Renaming the orbs to something not tied to a single character and having improved drop rates for the newer, meta characters and putting their high shard drops as the rare ones would go a long way to fixing this. Otherwise, having a rotating character, team, or theme that changes each patch could also fix this.
3) Actual duplicate protection in the orbs: This would probably be the more technically complicated solution for the devs, but other games have this in place. When you open an orb, the client checks what characters you have in your roster that are not at max rank and limits the pool of characters in the orb to only those ones (with exceptions for things like Legendary or DD characters). This would probably be the best solution and make the achievement of collecting all the duplicate shards needed for the orb feel more rewarding at the end and less like you are just endlessly throwing your shards into the void.
4) Rework the Ultimus Orb Shard store: Another option would be just to do away with the orbs entirely and turn Ultimus Orb Shards into a currency we can use for directly buying character shards, gear, ISO, etc. Set the Ultimus tab up similar to how the other store tabs are with rotating selection that changes each reset. By eliminating the rng element of pulling for character shards and putting more control in the players' hands this would go a long way in making the Ultimus shards feel more meaningful.
5) More orb types: In addition to or maybe even instead of the other suggestions, at least updating the orb selections we have to choose from in the store to be better than what we have now. As it stands, if you aren't using Ultimus Orb Shards on character shards, the only other options on what to spend them on are gear and these are severely outdated. Gear orbs only go up to G15 and when we are now on G18 there really is no reason why we shouldn't have G16 and G17 orbs available.
I know that this is probably a pointless post that is mostly just speaking into the void, but it is just something that I wanted to get off my chest but in a positive and constructive way. Hopefully it resonates with some other folks. Ideally, I'd love to see something like a Starforce team with some reworks that makes Ultimus feel good to own, but with the devs saying that they are moving away from character reworks it just makes him feel even worse to continually get shards for, especially on those Purple and Gold drops.

2023.06.09 18:03 thinkingstranger June 8, 2023

https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/june-8-2023
This morning the Supreme Court handed down a decision in Allen v. Milligan, a case that challenged the Alabama legislature’s redistricting of the state after the 2020 census on the grounds that the new districts had been configured to pack the state’s growing numbers of Black voters into a single district and thus dilute their vote. Such discrimination based on race, plaintiffs charged, violated the 1965 Voting Rights Act (VRA).
District courts agreed with the plaintiffs and told the state it couldn’t use the new map, but in February 2022 the Supreme Court issued a stay of the injunction prohibiting that map. The Supreme Court ruling left the Alabama map intact for the 2022 election. Legal scholar Stephen Vladeck noted that the decision was part of the court’s recent use of the “shadow docket,” unsigned, unexplained orders issued without a hearing.
Today’s 5–4 decision upheld the verdicts of the lower courts, agreeing that the new Alabama map was, after all, illegal, because it violates Section 2 of the VRA, which prohibits the denial of the right to vote on account of race. This leaves intact the ability of plaintiffs to sue when states appear to discriminate against minority voters. Similar lawsuits are pending in ten different states.
But, as Vladeck notes, the Supreme Court’s February 2022 decision leaving the discriminatory map in Alabama, as well as similar maps in other states, in place for the November election, is likely responsible for the Republicans’ current majority in the House of Representatives. The Cook Political Report, which follows elections, immediately changed their ratings for the leanings of five House districts after news of the Supreme Court decision.
That House majority is currently at an impasse that makes it impossible to conduct business. The extremist House Freedom Caucus (HFC) has revolted against House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) because of the budget deal he cut with President Biden before he would agree to raise the debt ceiling. Members of the HFC are demanding deeper cuts than McCarthy agreed to. The revolt of the far right puts into danger crucial spending bills, raising fears of a government shutdown in the fall.
To placate the extremists, McCarthy has apparently agreed to take up two bills: one to kill a Biden-backed gun regulation and another to push even more strongly against abortion rights. This move, which flies in the face of popular opinion, has angered Republicans in battleground districts, who are revolting against measures that will hurt them at home. It also runs the risk of alienating Democrats McCarthy will need to pass spending measures if the far right refuses to vote for them.
The extremism of today’s Republican Party grew in large part from the work of televangelist Pat Robertson, who died today at age 93. The son of a segregationist southern Democratic senator, Baptist minister Robertson urged evangelical Christians to vote and made them a core constituency of the Republican Party. Paving the way for those today calling for an end to liberal democracy, Robertson blamed LGBTQ Americans and women for secularizing the United States, which he saw as a tragedy and frequently blamed for natural disasters.
That political ideology depended on creating a false picture of what was really going on in the country. The Republican Party has become so wedded to lying about reality that today we saw Florida governor and Republican candidate for president Ron DeSantis circulating fake images of rival candidate Donald Trump embracing right-wing nemesis Dr. Anthony Fauci as a way to discredit Trump.
Trump’s team cried foul at the fake images, but the former president himself relies on manipulating reality to garner political support. CNN national correspondent Kristen Holmes reported today that Trump’s people reached out this week to congressional allies to encourage them to flood the airwaves with a defense of Trump and attacks on special counsel Jack Smith before a possible indictment of the former president.
To that end, Trump’s supporters spent the week trying to gin up outrage over a document they claimed shows that President Biden had taken a bribe as vice president. The document in question appears to be an unverified report that came to the Department of Justice through Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, one that the Trump Department of Justice dropped after it determined that the allegation was not supported by facts. But the practice of influencing politics through sham investigations is one of the Republicans’ key tools, and Trump allies have flooded social media this week insisting that this document is a smoking gun.
They were, of course, trying to set up a defense for the former president’s possible indictment on charges related to his refusal to hand over national security documents he had taken when he left the White House.
This evening, news broke that Trump has, indeed, been indicted by a grand jury in South Florida in connection with the documents discovered at Mar-a-Lago. The indictment is sealed, but there are reports that it includes seven counts of lawbreaking, including at least one related to the Espionage Act. These charges are serious indeed.
Trump is now the first former U.S. president in history to face federal criminal charges (his first indictment, on March 30, was at the state level). As The Guardian’s David Smith puts it, “he really might be going to jail.” Smith—who is a keen observer of American politics—notes that it is hard to figure out what is important and what is not in the general drama around the former president, but this indictment is “genuinely monumental.”
According to Trump’s outraged posts on social media, he has been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami next Tuesday.
Trump’s team asked his allies to jump to his defense, and they did. Trump loyalists implied that the “sham indictment” was destined to distract from the blockbuster story they had invented about Biden. House speaker McCarthy implied that Biden, who has had nothing to do with the Department of Justice investigation, special counsel in charge of the investigation Jack Smith, or the grand jury deliberations, was responsible for launching a political attack on a rival. The third Republican in House leadership, New York representative Elise Stefanik, also defended Trump…in a fundraising email that assured donors their money would go to the “OFFICIAL TRUMP DEFENSE FUND” though, in fact, most of it would be diverted to Stefanik’s operations. Trump, too, lost no time in fundraising off the indictment.
Significantly, though, all Republicans who do not identify with the far right have remained steadfastly silent in the face of the day’s news. The exception has been long-shot presidential candidate Asa Hutchinson, who has called for Trump to end his campaign.
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who communicates with the Trump camp, says he holed up tonight not with his legal team but with political advisors. CBS News correspondent Robert Costa reports tonight that the camps of Republican rivals think that this news will actually help Trump in the short term, as his base rallies to him, but that the news of what is at stake in the theft of national security documents might well lose him support over time. If another indictment comes from Georgia concerning his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election there, rival camps say he might “bleed out.”

2023.06.09 16:48 wildestkota Watching from season 1

Just started season 1 and I’m so annoyed with McKayla and the baby shower situation…she said she didn’t know how to tell her mom she didn’t want a joint one and then is blaming it on Shelly and starting stuff between Shannon and Shelly. Idk team Shelly, I can already tell McKayla is gonna annoy me
