This thread is about the recurring topic on Reddit.
My lists are always being updated and expanded when new information comes in—what did I miss or am I unaware of (even if the thread predates my membership in Reddit), and what needs correction? Even (especially) if I get a subreddit or date wrong. (Note that, other than the quotation marks, the thread titles are "sic". I only change the quotation marks to match the standard usage (double to single, etc.) when I add my own quotation marks around the threads' titles.)
The lists are in absolute ascending chronological order by the posting date, and if need be the time of the initial post, down to the minute (or second, if required—there's at least one example of this, somewhere). The dates are in DD MMMM YYYY format per personal preference, and times are in US Eastern Time ("ET") since that's how they appear to me, and I'm not going to go to the trouble of converting to another time zone. They are also in twenty-four hour format, as that's what I prefer, and it saves the trouble and confusion of a.m. and p.m. Where the same user posts the same request to different subreddits, I note the user's name in order to indicate that I am aware of the duplication.

I (m24) was born and still live in a well off town in a well off part of Long Island. I've had no worries growing up about my families financial stability due to my parents' careers and my dad is a sort of local celebrity. All four of my grandparents also had similar levels of wealth and clout, one of them far above all. I fully acknowledge I've lived an extremely privileged life as a result of pure luck and am very grateful for it. However...
People who are close to me know about my parents wealth and status and assume that I have the same. My parents don't give me money. They allow me to stay in their home, but all of my personal wealth is money I earned from working the same bs jobs as everyone else. I had an amazing upbringing free of financial stress, but the economy has caught up with all of us. Even my father, who's always seemed to have infinite money to solve his problems, has been feeling the effects. All of that being said, my own finances aren't much different than that of my friends.
The annoying part is that everyone in my circle acts as though I have endless money to spend, like I should pay for everything because my dad having cash somehow means that I have the same. I work similar types of jobs as all my friends yet somehow I always end up footing more of the bill than everyone else, and they act like that's exactly how it should be. I've explained to them how this isn't okay and they'll read me the riot act about how I had everything growing up and they all had nothing, as if that changes what's happening in the present. I appreciate my upbringing, but it's feeling like something that's being used against me at the same time.
I know my problem is minor and if I can't take it anymore I can just leave my friends, but it feels like I have to hide my family history from people or else they'll expect me to be their pay pig.
Tl;dr: My parents have money and I don't, yet people behave as though I do and make me pay for the majority of things.

In Rhode Island. I have a GC who has done a ton of work for me and he subbed out the electrical and plumbing. I’m about ready to pay off the last payment and was thinking… I don’t know anything about if he is paying his subs properly.
Can a sub put a lien on my house if the contract I had was not with them but with the GC instead?

Anyway onto the actually thing I wanted to talk about so obviously at the end of episode 8 you are able to defeatl talulah and get the old her back, she willing hands her self over and as far as we know she is still imprisoned on the rhodes island land ship during the events of episode 9 to 12.
My question is do you think dhe might ever become an operator for rhodes island in an event kinda like W? Now i know there is a bit of a diffrence from W joining and Talulah joining, but considering it is the old her and she was willing to hand herself over to pay for had she done. I wouldn't be surprised if she willing joined rhodes island if they were in a really rough spot and needed the help.

TLDR—where is the line between nuts and different? The story…..I’ve been having a real bad day and ended up getting all mopey and woe is me (which I really despise btw), anyway, I started thinking maybe I just expect too much or maybe I can’t accept failure? I do hate to lose at anything and am pretty hard on myself for anything that doesn’t go to plan but this is not a revelation to me or anything new so I don’t think it has any bearing here. But then the thought jumped into my head, what if I am nuts? I always assumed people who are nuts KNOW they are nuts but now I wonder?! I mean, I live off grid, in a yurt, in the woods. I find little solace in the things “normal” people like to do. Not too blow my own horn but I am extremely intelligent and diy everything but definitely take way too much on myself and set unreasonable timelines, have too many projects going at once and hate clutter with a passion but have trouble organizing and keeping things neat in my workshop etc. What if I am off my rails and just don’t realize it? I was thinking I could see a therapist but I’m already so far off from where the stand I dont think they would understand how I live to begin with! Even my family doesn’t really understand me and just sort of loves me no matter what I do. For reference, I have never not worked since I was 15, pay all bills and have plenty of money (but always seem to be working harder to get more).

Since the charges are based on income and are fixed, it doesn't mater if your net usage is almost zero. You will still pay $100+ bills every month for being connected to the grid. Currently suggested fixed bill for a household income of $180K is $128/month for SDGE customers (who are already paying highest electricity costs in the nation).
It's no secret that most of the solar deployments are done on home where people have higher incomes, since they have the discretionary money to future proof their homes with solar and battery power. But now these households will be penalized.
It would also disincentivize large households from getting solar since these systems cost tens of thousands for large homes due to higher consumption. It's a lot cheaper to just pay the fixed rate and use as much as one wants, even waste it by constantly running AC, leaving lights on, etc.
What worries me even more is that this may apply to everyone, including those on NEM2.0 since NEM has to do with the rate payed by utility to the customer for excess solar and mechanics of the accounting for it. However, as long as the household is connected to the grid, it may mean that they still can charge the fixed rate regardless of NEM2.0.

I installed solar because my bills were high - hundreds of dollars. My bill now is about ~$15 after getting a solar system. Under proposed change it would be around $150. It's definitely not the hundreds i used to pay, but it's also not $15.

In Thailand, Holland, Bangkok etc. women so unashamedly, with such pride solicit made attention in markets, in open public places, like men in Pakistan and Afghanistan sell their wares sitting by the roadside. Then the ignominy of it all is that at night these women ask each other how much they have "earned" during the day or night. My wife accepted a role for a company based out of RI with about 30% of her total annual compensation coming from commission.
7 months later, the company has never paid her a single commission check, and changed their plan for her commission over 5 times.
We’re concerned that they never really intended to pay any commission, and are just kicking the can down the road until she quits due to the low pay and they pocket the commission as extra profit.

A BILL TO
guarantee British Overseas Territories, Scotland and Wales the right to hold independence and transfer referenda.
BE IT ENACTED by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
Section 1: Definitions
(1) “British overseas territory” has the same meaning as in the British Nationality Act 1981.
(2) “Independence referendum” shall mean a referendum where registered electors of the relevant territory may vote on whether or not to become governed independently.
(3) “Transfer referendum” shall mean a referendum where registered electors of the relevant territory may vote on whether or not to leave the United Kingdom and join another state which has officially indicated to HM Government that they would be willing to accept the territory.

CHAPTER 1: THE CALLING OF REFERENDA

Section 2: Independence and Transfer Referenda
(1) Citizens of a British overseas territory, Scotland, or Wales may present a petition to the Secretary of State to hold an independence or transfer referendum, which will be binding if:-

(a) the petition is signed by 20% of the registered electors of the relevant territory; and
(b) the signatures were collected within a 9-month period; and
(c) a previous unsuccessful referendum was not held within 10 years of the petition beginning to collect signatures.

Section 3: Assent of Devolved or Local Governments
(1) For the purposes of this section, an appropriate person is any of the following-

(a) The First Minister of the relevant territory,
(b) The Chief Minister of the relevant territory, or-
(c) The head of Government of the relevant territory

(2) Should none of the above be available or appropriate, the Secretary of State may designate as an “appropriate person” any person who is a part of the functioning of a devolved or local government in the relevant territory, so long as that person is reasonably able and appropriate to carry out any duties foreseeably arising from this act.
(3) A petition under Section 2 shall not be valid unless an appropriate person representing the relevant territory affirms to the Secretary of State that they support the aim of the petition.
Section 3: Entitlement to Vote
(1) Those entitled to vote in a referendum called under this act in Scotland or Wales are-

(a) the persons ordinarily resident in the territory in question who, on the date of the referendum, would be entitled to vote as electors at a parliamentary election in a constituency within that territory,
(b) the persons ordinarily resident in the territory in question who, on that date, are disqualified by reason of being peers from voting as electors at parliamentary elections but would be entitled to vote as electors at a local government election in any electoral area in Great Britain.

(2) Those entitled to vote in a referendum called under this act in a British Overseas Territory are the persons ordinarily resident in the territory in question who, on the date of the referendum, would be entitled to vote as electors at a general election within that territory,

CHAPTER 2: THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE

Section 4: Duties of the Secretary of State
(1) Upon the receipt of a valid petition under Section 2 of this Act, the following duties are created for the Secretary of State:

(a) the duty to move an order under this act so as to create a referendum of the type intended by the petition, within one calendar year of the date of receipt,
(b) the duty to produce and publish such regulations that are reasonably necessary and expedient to ensure the smooth, orderly and fair discharge of the referendum in question,
(c) to publish a report detailing the issue at question, and what efforts His Majesty’s Government will take to ensure that an orderly transition between the status quo and proposed constitutional change within the territory in question can occur
(d) to appoint whatever persons the Secretary of State deems reasonably necessary to discharge the functions of the referendum, and-
(e) to provide whatever funds are reasonably necessary to discharge the functions of the referendum.

(2) The Secretary of State may reimburse any reasonable costs incurred by Section (1)(e).
Section 5: The Powers of the Secretary of State
(1) The Secretary of State shall have the power to make regulations specified under Sections 6 and 7 of this act.
(2) The Secretary of State shall have the power to make such regulations as are reasonably required so as to fulfil a duty under Section 4 of this act.
(3) Regulations and Orders under this act shall be subject to the negative procedure.
Section 6: Referendum Orders
(1) The Secretary of State may make an order that a referendum to which this act applies is to be held in the territory in question, so long as they have received a valid petition.
(2) The Secretary of State must, by regulations, appoint the day on which the referendum is to be held.
(3) The Secretary of State shall have a duty to refer the question to appear of the ballot papers to the Electoral Commission, and must ensure that the wording they provide is that which appears on the ballot papers in question.
Section 7: Conduct Regulations
(1) The Secretary of State may by regulations—

(a) make provision about voting in the referendum and otherwise about the conduct of the referendum,
(b) apply for the purposes of the referendum any other enactment relating to elections or referendums, including provisions creating offences;

(2) The Secretary of State may by regulations make provision for and in connection with the combination of the poll for the referendum with any one or more of the following—

(a) the poll for any election specified in the regulations;
(b) the poll for any other referendum specified in the regulations.

(3) Regulations under this act may not change the date of either a referendum called under this act, or any electoral process to which subsection (2) applies.
(4) Before making any regulations under this section, the Secretary of State must consult the Electoral Commission.
Section 8: Short title, commencement, and extent
(1) This Act may be cited as the National Self-Determination Act 2023.
(2) This Act shall come into force immediately upon Royal Assent.
(3) This Act extends to England, Wales, Scotland, and the British Overseas Territories
(4) Nothing in this act shall be construed to have extent to Northern Ireland

I must start by making clear that, while this coalition does not agree with the decision the Commons has made on the Direct Democracy Act, we have no choice but to abide by that decision. However, this puts us now in an even less clear constitutional position on a specific area in which referenda are the only viable and accepted method to be used: independence votes.
We have seen recently, outside of this simulation, the UK Supreme Court decision regarding the legal status of a Scottish independence referendum. While I am sure many here would wish to debate the grounds and arguments made in that particular judgement, that is not the intent of this bill. The intent of this bill is to guarantee the specific right explicitly, so as to prevent this sort of controversial court judgement subverting the will of the people in contravention of Article 15 of the UN Convention on Human Rights. To quote:
“(1) Everyone has the right to a nationality. (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.” To this end this bill will guarantee that right for Scotland, Wales, and the British Overseas Territories. Northern Ireland is specifically not included in this bill so as to remain in compliance with the Belfast Agreement, which supersedes the authority here as a pre-existing mutual agreement. The required signatures and time between possible referendums is based on the previous Brexit referendums and the Fixed Term Parliament Act, respectively.
To be clear on a more metagame angle, independence is still blocked unless it should come to be in real life. This may not apply to British Overseas Territories, given the actions taken regarding the establishment of New Chagos, but this is undoubtedly a less impactful aspect of MHOC remaining recognisable as a simulation of British politics. However, whether or not we can actually hold a referendum in game is irrelevant to the main point at hand: this is legally and morally the correct guarantee to make. The UK has been part of actions taken against other nations by the UN regarding Article 15, we are obliged to also honour its conditions.

I pretty much would echo what MachineTeaching said . I am very much in favor of a Gold Exchange Standard " Payable in Gold ( Silver) On Demand" However, I am also worried that people will abuse it by "clipping" or melting it down for "tooth embellishments" or what ever.
Gold is Gold... The Gold of Ancient Egypt is the same gold we have today, It NEVER decreased in Value to any human and is still actively sought for today as back then. Tl;dr: Our solar system provided power to the grid, but the power company didn't reimburse us. The array was inspected and up to code but the paperwork wasn't processed due to "technical issues". We live in Pennsylvania.
We installed solar on our roof and it was relatively painless. Inspector came out, signed off and went to submit the paperwork that week. Now, the installer had turned the system on and power was being sent out into the grid all without my knowledge. After a week, I followed up on the paperwork I was told needed to be signed and would get sent within a week and was told that, "due to a technical issue the inspector couldn't upload the documents but it was getting sorted." Fast forward another month and 3 phone calls essentially saying the inspector was waiting for a time to contact PPL (power company) tech support. A week later we get an email from PPL stating that our array wasn't approved to be turned on and to shut it off. The contractor was cc'd on this email. I replied all stating the I wasn't aware the system was on and inquiring about the issue with the paperwork, asking the contractor to advice. Crickets for about 3 days. At this point, I should also mention that all licensing and permitting, including applications was supposed to be handled by the contractor (this is in writing). Finally get a hold of the contractor via phone, and they say, "we'll talk to the inspector's supervisor and find out what's going on. Don't worry about the array." Flash forward another 2 weeks, I call back and ask for an update and I'm told that I should have gotten the paperwork to sign in my email. I check, I find nothing. At this point, I get the information from the contractor regarding the work order with PPL and call myself. I'm told by the PPL representative that there were 2 phone calls regarding this work order and according to the log, the inspector was given an email address 2 months ago that they could have submitted the approval to. So I take the email address, the names, numbers, and emails of everyone at PPL that is involved on the work order, and call my contractor out and told them everything I was told. 3 days later I get my paperwork to sign and my array gets official approval. Over this time, my system put out 3MW of power and I had to pay full price for electricity rather than the discounted transmission rate. All totaled, it was $460 from lost export revenue and electric bill. Do I have any standings to get this money back from either PPL (for use), the contractor (for doing nothing), or the inspector (for failing to do their job)?

Hi everyone! This sub was so incredibly helpful to me in the planning process - I was deeply grateful for everything I learned, so I thought I'd post a trip report now that we're back!
About us: We're a 30s couple from the Midwest US. We're pretty experienced travelers (South America, UK/Ireland, Europe, lots of places in the US), but this was our first visit to Asia and first visit to Japan. As travelers, we love getting out on foot, local food/drink (especially street food), live music, nerd shit, weird art/vending machines. Also, my partner is a cis guy, but I am a trans masc person who is visibly trans (post-op in a few ways, but not passing/not stealth).

What we did: Tokyo Kyoto Osaka Hakone Back to Tokyo
Tips and tricks:

• Definitely get your walking training in ahead of time! We walked 10 miles a day on the trip. We're pretty avid backcountry camping/hiking fans who regularly put in 8 - 10 miles on the trail (not to mention taking our dog for multiple walks a day in the neighborhood), so I figured we'd be good - but it was A LOT, especially since you're also trying to translate and navigate at the same time. Japan is not generally a super accessible place from a disability perspective; benches and public seating areas are not common. I found myself wishing I'd packed a collapsible seat of some kind, tbh!
• Good shoes a must! Merrell Moabs are my go-to for hiking, but for this trip I went with Nike Dunk 6 high-tops, which rocked. My partner went with Onitsukas and didn't do as well - he wound up buying inserts partway through the trip, which helped.
• Work on a little Japanese ahead of time! We came in with about a dozen words/phrases, which was honestly truly helpful. So many people are so kind and thoughtful anyway, but it was an appreciated gesture that we had planned ahead and were trying our best. Google Translate's camera feature (Google Lens) was a life-saver for translating written words on signs!
• We had a great experience with Ubigi for an eSIM. The days of purchasing an actual SIM card or even a burner device (like we used to do when backpacking in Europe) are long past. We hooked up our Ubigi eSIMs beforehand, flipped the switch when we got there, and we were golden. Just in case, we'd set up our Verizon coverage to include a Pay-As-You-Go international plan, but we didn't end up using it. We also didn't use half as much data as we thought we would - we both came home with extra GB on our Ubigi plan still. We didn't do a PocketWifi and I don't think we needed it - Ubigi did most of the heavy lifting, and free WiFi at various places did the rest.
• Fly into Haneda, not Narita - way closer to Tokyo city center.
• Get your Suica right away at the airport - our beloved Suica got us through so many things! We also withdrew some cash and split it up between us - we withdrew a few more times on the trip and it worked like a charm. (Just make sure it's an international ATM that includes your card type - not all of them do. Also, notify your bank you'll be traveling, so your card doesn't throw a flag!) We used our credit card as well - the Chase card was accepted pretty much all places CCs are, but many places remain cash-only, especially bars and restaurants.
• Had a great experience using the Friendly Limousine Airport Bus service straight from Haneda to our hotel area.
• I booked shinkansen tix ahead of time, so I got nice discounts on weekday Green Car tix for two - but I really needn't have worried, there were plenty of seats available day-of.
• Don't bother with shinkansen for Kyoto to Osaka - we wound up just hopping on a local with our Suicas and it was fine.
• Don't bother with the Romancecar from Hakone back to Tokyo - it's fastemaybe a nicer seating experience, but just hopping on a local with your Suica is an order of magnitude cheaper.
• Look things up in Japanese if using Google Translate; use Tabelog for restaurants if possible. Google Maps in English is more touristy reviews/reactions.
• Tokyo Skytree was hit-or-miss - only real letdown of the trip.
• Tokyo teamLab PLANETS was completely worth it - absolutely worth the hype in my opinion.
• Queer and trans travelers - I felt completely safe, but as a plus-size trans masc nonbinary queerdo, I stuck out like a sore thumb. I didn't feel in danger, but I was absolutely aware that I did not fit in. Stares were common, especially from older men and young kids. (Weirdly, local women seemed more friendly and curious about me!) Just be prepared for it and remember you're not in any danger physically - it's all just curiosity.
• I have to thank this subreddit for recommending Hakone, especially for the tip to book a ryokan with private onsen access. We had an absolutely beautiful experience at Yamanochaya in Hakone, which included both a private "onsen" soaking tub in our room and private 1:1 access to a larger, actual hot spring onsen on the property. I otherwise would not have been able to experience a real hot spring onsen at all, as they are gender-segregated. Thank you, /JapanTravel!

DAY 6 TEAMLAB PLANETS, TRAVEL TO KYOTO 📍 Hit up teamLabs, had an amazing time exploring the exhibits - the infinite light crystal room was our fav; train to Tokyo Station; lunch at underground Ramen Street restaurants under the station - went with Soranoiro, one of the few veg/vegan ramen shops in Japan - delicious; shinkansen to Kyoto; out for nightlife in Kiyamachi-Dori and Pontocho 🍣 Quick 7/11 snacks; train snacks (pocky, coffee, little teriyaki cutlet sandwich); Soranoiro ramen bowls; killer yakitori we fried right at our table in izakaya in Pontocho (honestly probably a meal highlight of the whole trip); brown sugar shoujo; 7/11 for ice cream on the way back 👣 18,900 steps 🏁 8.63 miles

DAY 8 SHRINE DAY 📍 OK, this is a lot:

• Yasakajinja (we happened to be here while a young couple was having a Shinto wedding ceremony!)
• Yasui Kompira-gū (built 1170, shrine for ending bad relationships and starting new ones, has special stone that you pin your wishes to - many young girls will crawl through the stone to mark a breakup or wish for love)
• Kennin-ji (built 1202, large grounds - among the oldest in Kyoto);
• Reigen-in (part of Kennin-ji grounds, a Zen teahouse with a tea garden where they served adzuki bean buns with tea made from the actual hydrangeas of the tea garden outside!)
• Zenkyoan (boar shrine which we initially thought were cute hedgehogs)
• Kyoto Ebisu Shrine (dedicated to fishermen - we happened to be here during the shrine's annual mikoshi festival - a battalion of locals in traditional clothes, hoisting and dancing with the mikoshi around the neighborhood)
• Kodai-ji (built 1606, gorgeous grounds - we skipped the tour)
• Hōkan-ji/Yasaka Pagoda (dating back to 589 and rebuilt in 1400s, huge black 5-story pagoda featuring massive shakyamuni pole inside and reliquary of a bone of the Buddha in the foundations)

DAY 9 FUSHIMI-INARI 📍 Fushimi Inari, the famous shrine of over 1,000 torii gates - super amazing (and intense!) summit of Mt Inari! Back to Nishiki Market for reward street food and drinks; back to hotel for a rooftop drink and soak; finally out for soba at Kawamichiya Ginka in Pontocho. 🍣 Snack pack on our hike (sausages, cheese, some kind of fish meat/cheese stick, and surume - sweet chewy dried squid stuff); orange smoothie; conveyor belt sushi; strawberry mochi roll; whisky highball and red wine; massive soba spreads (chicken seared with wasabi/yuzu/horseradish dipped in ponzu sauce, fried soba noodles in a rich soup, cold soba noodles dipped tsukemen-style in a really amazing umami soy sauce soup, tempura shrimp and veggies, a hot soba noodles in a clear broth soup) 👣 27,600 steps 🏁 Supposedly 12.3 miles, but that hike to summit Mt Inari was something else 😤
DAY 10 TRAVEL TO OSAKA, SHINSABASHISUJI, AMEMURA, DOTONBURI 📍 Beautiful brunch on the bank of the canal in Kyoto; local train to Osaka-Umeda; checked into Osaka hotel; walked around Shinsaibashisuji and Dotonburi a little bit; scoped out Amemura ("Ameri-mura") for dope American-inspired Japanese streetwear; wandered up and down street food stalls in Dotonbori; swung by Namba Hips (mostly pachinko); found a couple of fun little hole-in-the-wall places (little Japanese craft beer brewery, retro video games bar) 🍣 Brunch at Kawa Cafe (croque monsieur, ramen, tea and delicious apple tart); takoyaki, cheesy waffle shaped like a massive 10yen coin, sweet chili hotdogs from stands in Dotonbori; dashi gose craft beer (by Derailleur Brew Works) from Umineko, shots at Space Station bar 👣 19,500 steps 🏁 9.01 miles
DAY 11 NAMBAYASAKIJINA, DOTONBURI 📍 Morning Japanese breakfast at a wonderful little 24-hour diner; Hozen-ji (moss shrine); Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum across the street (focusing on Osaka woodcuts celebrating Dotonburi's kabuki and entertainment history); Nambayasaka-jinja (lion head shrine); Den Den Town (Osaka's Akihabara); ended up at a cozy little kushikatsu bar which actually was playing the Tigers game (away game vs the Swallows at Tokyo); street food waffles for dessert; hit up a late-night batting cage - ended up at Round1 (a big multi-floor arcade complex) and did the rooftop batting cage! My partner won a giant plushie for me from a claw machine! 🍣 Dope traditional japanese omelette and fish breakfast; cute macarons from market stand; Family Mart for snacks before nightlife; skewers, beer, and highballs from Dotonbori kushikatsu place; ridiculous nutella, whip, and strawberry stuffed waffle from Waffle Khan 👣 29,100 steps 🏁 13.31 miles
DAY 12 KUROMON ICHIBA, OSAKA CASTLE, DOTONBURI 📍 Kuromon Ichiba Market for street food; Osaka Castle Park and Nishinomaru Gardens; toured Osaka Castle and museum all the way up to the top; subway to Tanimachi-9-chome subway station for amazing live jazz at Sub Jazz Cafe. (This was amazing! Akira "Ro" Hasegawa (sax) and Yukie Fujikawa (keys) - Ro is also the owner and was bartending on this particular night too.) Out to Don Don for killer yakiniku and beer; found our way to Oboradaren, an Tokunoshima-themed island vibes bar and music spot where there was a great live band playing fun island vibes beach rock - big crowd of 40s+ Japanese women who knew all the songs, wound up drinking passionfruit chuhai and joining them in the conga line around the bar 🍣 Oden hot pot, wagyu skewer, otoro sashimi, crab gratin in the half-shell, bracken green tea soy cakes at Kuromon Market; ice cream sandwiches at Osaka Castle; milk tea, little roast beef sandwich, and cheesecake at Sub Jazz Cafe; yakiniku-style wagyu, ribs, ox tongue, assorted mushrooms; passionfruit chuhai and red wine at the island vibes spot; taro and brown sugar boba teas 👣 23,000 steps 🏁 10.42 miles
DAY 13 KAIYUKAN, SHINSEKAI, DOTONBURI 📍 Fun trip to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan; quick pass through Shinsekai; lunch at spot where you can fish your own catch from an indoor fishing boat pool; out for one last Dotonburi night - wound up getting konbini snacks and sitting on the waterfront talking and people-watching for hours 🍣 Not a banger food-wise, but interesting little spread at the fish-your-own place - huge prawn for grilling, kara-age, and fatty tuna nigiri for Max, tempura veggies and whitefish with doteyaki for Chris; from Family Mart, fruit smoothie, ice cup, and KitKat for Max, onigiri and lemonade for Chris 👣 19,100 steps 🏁 8.64 miles
DAY 14 TRAVEL TO HAKONE, HAKONE SHRINE 📍 Bombed to Shin-Osaka for an early shinkansen to Odawara; trained to Odawara to Hakone; dropped luggage off at ryokan, then bus to Motohakone; saw Hakone Shrine and Onshi-Hakone Park (as well as a segment of the actual Old Tokaido!); returned to ryokan for the night, where we were treated to a gorgeous 1:1 kaiseki from a Michelin-star chef, private hot spring onsen, and private in-room hot spring bath 🍣 Konbini snacks before shinkansen; snacks and coffee on train; late lunch in Motohakone (curry and soba, pork cutlet); incredible, massive multi-course kaiseki and sake for dinner, plus strawberry cake, champagne, and more sake for dessert 👣 13,900 steps 🏁 6.26 miles
DAY 15 HAKONE OPEN AIR MUSEUM, TRAVEL TO TOKYO, LAST NIGHT IN SHINJUKU 📍 Woke up in gorgeous ryokan; leisurely kaiseki breakfast with leftover cake; final soak in the private onsen; Hakone Open Air Museum - very cool; had kind of a challenging trip back but finally made it from Museum back to ryokan to bus stop to Hakone-Yumoto to Odawara to Shinjuku to the hotel 😮‍💨 Considering the last night as our real "last night" of the trip, our final night out in Tokyo was all just extra icing on the cake - went out for yakitori skewers and Asahi Superdrys in cozy alley in Omoide Yokocho, found really wonderful cake and tea dessert open late also in Omoide, hit up 🎵 Donki! 🎵 for a final round of bulk snacks and souvenirs, ended up on a late-night excursion to find Park Hyatt Hotel (featured in Lost in Translation); finished night at hotel watching the city go to sleep from our balcony 👣 22,700 steps 🏁 10.3 miles

I write to you today as an immigrant who arrived in this great country with hopes and dreams in my heart. In 2008, I became a landed immigrant, and since then, I have strived to build a life here filled with opportunities and success. I want to share my perspective, as someone who has witnessed the changes that have occurred over the years, and express my concerns about the current state of affairs.
First and foremost, I want to emphasize that I have always believed in the value of hard work and self-reliance. I have never abused the income support system and have consistently sought to contribute to this society by working diligently and paying my fair share of taxes. However, despite my efforts, I find myself disheartened by the challenges I face in making ends meet.
As a responsible citizen, I work a full-time job and contribute over $1000 in taxes each month. Yet, it is with deep frustration that I admit I struggle to afford a decent standard of living. Once the rent, utilities, and bills are paid, I am left with less than $100 in my bank account. This financial strain leaves me living paycheck to paycheck, constantly worrying about unexpected expenses and unable to save for a secure future.
The weight of financial struggles has taken its toll on my well-being, and I cannot deny that I have questioned the purpose of life, contemplating despair and hopelessness. It is a heartbreaking reality to work tirelessly and still find oneself trapped in a cycle of financial instability, unable to enjoy the fruits of one's labor or plan for a better tomorrow.
It saddens me to think that while I toil away, there are individuals abusing social support programs without actively seeking employment or making genuine efforts to better their circumstances. This stark disparity in opportunities and support can be demoralizing and make one question the fairness of the system.
It is not my intention to single out any particular political party, but I cannot help but express my disappointment with the current government's policies and their impact on our beloved country. The pursuit of equality and social justice is commendable, but it seems that the pendulum has swung too far to the point that it's just ridiculous now. The liberal government's approach, has, in my opinion, created an environment that rewards complacency and disincentivizes hard work.
Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about how the influx of immigrants and refugees has affected the quality of life for hardworking Canadians. Please understand that I am not suggesting that immigrants or refugees are solely responsible for this situation, but rather, that the economic pressures resulting from increased labor supply have allowed some employers to exploit the situation. The willingness of certain individuals to accept lower wages has created an environment where companies can treat employees as mere numbers and pay wages that are insufficient for survival.
It is disheartening to witness the erosion of job security, the stagnant wages, and the diminishing opportunities for personal growth. This situation negatively impacts not only immigrants but also Canadians who have dedicated their lives to building this nation. We all deserve fair compensation for our efforts and the chance to improve our lives through hard work and dedication.
My intention in writing this open letter is not to spread division or animosity, but rather to initiate a dialogue that acknowledges the concerns many hardworking individuals share. It is important that we find a way to address these challenges collectively, as a united community that values both compassion and hard work.
I believe in the inherent goodness of people and the ability of our nation to come together and find solutions. Let us work towards a society where opportunity is balanced with responsibility, where hard work is rewarded, and where the dignity of every individual, immigrant or Canadian-born.

To start I broke up with my ex 3 years ago. Her father and her started a pot farm in their garage while the light bill was in my name and while I lived with them. They promised that the"proceeds" would help to pay for the light bill. I never saw a dime. I told them multiple times to just have her father put the bill in his name because the bill was getting too high and that I didn't care to fund their venture. During the time I lived with them I was not only in and abusive and toxic relationship with my ex but her father was a raging and abusive alcoholic as well. So any protest I made fell on deaf ears. It wasn't until the bill reached a whopping $20,000 did my ex finally have the bill put in her name. Not transferred just opened a new account. I was stupid to believe they would actually help me pay it. Months after she opened a new account the situation got so bad I had to leave. It went to collections because I worked a minimum wage job (still do) and had other bills to pay. 3 years later I'm finally putting my life together. Got an apartment and what decides to pop up? You guessed it. The stain of a reminder of why I don't have faith in humanity. When I spoke to the company (national grid) I would have to put the light on with a remaining balance of close to $12,000. My landlord (bless her) put it in her name until I could figure this situation out. I don't know what to do. A friend said I could sue her and her father to pay for the bill but I'm not gaurenteed a win. I don't want this hanging over my head anymore. Bad enough I suffered physical, mental, and emotional abuse at the hands of her and her father but that I'm still paying for the financial abuse as well. I'm at my wits end. It's either this remains a stain on my name or I take them to court and pray I win. I just want to untangle myself from them an finally be done. Pleased help!!
