For the last two years, Iāve taken time traveling and doing seasonal work. For various reasons, it only makes sense for me to go to grad school in Fall 2024. Iāve put grad school off for a few years, but Iām absolutely going to apply this upcoming fall.
Have any of you taken significant time away from your careeeducation in this way and did it affect you negatively? If so, is there anything I can do in the meantime to be a more appealing candidate? Skills to know / books to read / short term internships that might make me more appealing in this field?
Iāve spent some time in Latin America, but Iām not fluent in Spanish yet. Iām considering spending more time in Latin America studying Spanish until Fall 2024 so I can be functionally bilingual. I feel like this could help in my career (and also be personally fulfilling) but Iām not sure.
For some context, I hope to go into public health consulting soon after grad school. Iāll be going into significant debt for grad school (probably a dual degree), and I want to be able to pay that off ASAP with a good paying job. I know that field is competitive, but Iām okay with that challenge, and plan to move into something more āmeaningfulā/ specific to my interests later in my career after gaining some experience in the consulting world.

So, basically I got in to U Ottawa, Queens and U calgary and I'm rly having trouble deciding. Idk where I wanna practice, however, as of now I am interested in human rights and criminal law however, I realize that these intrests can change and I wanna leave the most doors open for my self.

84+ years ago a brave Ape took GME almost all the way to court to try and enforce them to view the register of shareholders via a 'Section 220 Books and Records' request. Just as it was reaching a head, the OG MF went dark AND we suddenly got DRS numbers reported in the Quarterly reports. I'm a great one for joining the dots, but I suspect (some of you might to) that there was a quiet word behind the scenes and the DRS numbers in the report was agreed upon as serving the purpose, without tripping the Board up in any way.
Now - we have just had the latest numbers released and without doubt the way that the DRS numbers have been reported have been changed in an effort to obfuscate. I believe that RC basically gave a ticking bomb to the SEC when they filed the report in the normal way with the normal exact count of shares owned by directly registered shareholders. The delay in publishing (and the reason why DRS numbers were up to date, rather than to end of quarter), was down to the SEC refusing to allow it to be published as it would have shown too many shares at the DTC when DRS numbers were taken in. A game of chicken then took place until the last minute when the filing would have to be made public - and the wording was adjusted.
Now I think it would be completely right to use a 220 request at this point, to 'investigate wrongdoing'. I'm not saying the Board did something wrong, maybe it was the SEC, or maybe the Board caved in for some reason I don't know, when they shouldn't have in my personal view. The point is though, that I just have to suspect that my holding might have been harmed in some way by the Board's actions to make the request stick.

The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama I Got a Monster opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. Trying to remember all of the questions I was just asked - I applied via Link Japan Careers (JLC) for their Oceania role as I'm Australia-based. The interview was done through them, and is my first video interview with them (first was just a phone interview).

Let's say your JT (Japanese Teacher) is veering away from the lesson plan for that class and you notice, and the class is no longer covering the required topic/s. What would you do in this situation?
You mentioned that you would like to build a relationship with the JT, how would you go about this?
There isn't a set marking/grading system for a lot of Japanese schools. Based on this, how would you monitor a child's progress in the class?
If you notice that a child is not picking up on lessons very easily, what would you do in this situation?
Typically the ALTs will have a few hours in the middle of the day in between classes where you aren't teaching, but you'll still be at the school. What do you see yourself doing in that time?
On occasion, someone from the Interac team may come out to monitor your progress and sit in on your classes. How do you feel about receiving potentially critical feedback on your performance?
You've mentioned this briefly before, but would you be open to living in a more rural location and potentially driving to schools?
Most school days start at around 8:00-8:30AM. What time would you try to arrive to the school before classes start for the day?

Before i start my very large rant, I would just like to say, I love my parents and am grateful for everything they have done for me HOWEVER, I just canāt seem to add up the remnants of my past 18 years. Okay, so where do I begin ? Iām 19 this year and I donāt think I can handle the constant loop of unproductive days followed by waiting for what seems to be FOREVER to go to bed to avoid everything. I was a bright kid who talked using dramatic gestures and the people loved me. Iām not sure what happened but I then became this extremely shy kid who had major separation anxiety/social anxiety. I cried during my first year of school and cried for many more years. I loathed the idea of being around other kids and demanding teachers for 7 hours and I never woke up without trying to find a way to call in sick until i was in 10th grade. Iām lonely, I feel sad and jealous seeing others at the shops. Eventually, I feel as though Iāve transcended into a void. I feel numb. Growing up, I had friends, some that left quickly others that were my friends for many years. I always felt left out . My parents are religious but arenāt strict upon it to a large extent. They did, however, use religion to deprive me of what would have made many childhood experiences and memories. I was allowed to go out with friends, maybe twice in my life without supervision , the other four with my parents being there. I begged for a phone and got one in high school but wasnāt allowed to message or call any of my friends ( I lived near my school, so the phone wasnāt really of any use ). My life consisted of going to school, then back home. Any outings had to be with family. I never face timed , or went to houses. I never watched any popular shows or movies because any show/movie that involved human actors was deemed inappropriate by my mother so I was never able to relate with any of my friends. My friends often told me that I probably didnāt consider them as friends since I ānever wanted to hang outā. In reality, I didnāt want to make my parents look bad and simply told my friends that I didnāt have time to go to their plans. My 14 year old sister stays in her room all day with the door closed, when I until now have someone barge in on me. I always told to get out of my room and be with family so I basically lived in the living room. Remember the COVID-19 lockdown? I did all my zoom meetings in the living room when I had a perfectly spacious room. My father told me that he liked this new house better because everyone is together. No double storeys to keep people separated and the rooms are all near each other. After graduating high school, I thought I would become a more improved version of myself in uni ( college, whatever you want to call it ) but boy was I gullible. I got my learners license 3 years ago but I donāt have my license because : 1- Anxiety 2- I saw no point in having one. Itās not like I was going places. I made all my classes online except for one day on campus. Despite all of my parentās friends asking why I didnāt take the bus or train, whenever I brought up their comments, my parents would answer for me. ā Oh but youāll be scared since youāve never used public transport. Youāll be so lost or even miss your train!ā True but Iām not scared. So my mum offered to drive me there. Getting ready, sheād tell me not to wear baggy clothes because it didnāt look nice. Sheād also comment on how certain things made me look like a ball ( thanks to that extra 15kgs lockdown gave me ). Then sheād tell me to wear something different in case people notice that my pants were the same as last time. Then, sheād ask why I used my own shade of foundation, I needed a lighter one because fair skin looks nicer than tanned. Sheād finally end up wearing something that looks like all her other black coloured clothing and weād drive off.Around 40 minutes away, she decides to stay at uni since thereās no point in driving all the way back. I definitely didnāt enjoy it when she walked with me all the way to my class on the first day. Or when I have to walk back to the units coffee shop to meet my mum and walk back to the car together. Donāt get me wrong, its lovely spending time with parents but being privileged plus being heavily dependent on your parents gives other the impression that youāre an ignorant and spoilt snob. Or youād get made fun of for not knowing how the outside world works. She makes sure to emphasise how she never has time because she always has to take the kids to school and take me to uni. Anyways, then Iād go back home, try to study with all the noise, end up wasting my entire day making empty promises to myself and have nothing done. Then at around 10-11pm, mum would announce that sheās tired and when sheās tired, we have to give her all of our electronics ( phone, iPad, laptop, switch, everything ). Then Iād have to wait until she waked up in the morning until I get my things back and thankfully she charged the phone but oh god she forgot the iPad this time, looks like lectures will have to be watched later. Nowadays, she tells me that I can keep my IPad /laptop with me until late so that I can study. I refuse each time. Why? I donāt enjoy pity. So now I sit here, not doing my skincare, not happy with my weight, no motivation to study, not bothered to complete simple tasks such as making my own bed, not going out with friends despite my parents getting mad and telling me that they arenāt stopping me from doing so. Well, surprise surprise, Iām pretty sure that none of my friends message me anymore since I never put in the time for them. Now, I watch my 14 year old sister FaceTiming and messaging all her friends. I look back and see my 9 year old sister FaceTiming her friends on her iPad, playing Roblox together. Itās messing me up and I sure as heck am jealous. My parents do love me but all of this pointing out my flaws, treating me like a child, not allowing me to be able to grasp a single fragment of a childhood memory really has turned me into this miserable, anger consumed person. I need to learn to suppress certain feelings while emphasising others. E.g. I could be so emotionally driven, anything would make me cry ( childrenās movie, celebrities being cheered at, etc ) but I also canāt tell the difference between nervousness and anxiety. When I see my mother or sister cry, I feel awkward, sometimes annoyed. Iām not moved yet I remember what I need to do in steps and I only take action out of guilt so step one, see if they need to be alone, step two coax them, step three move in for a hug and so on. SO so sorry for this rant, was never given psychological help so Iāve kept most of my problems to myself. This would only accumulate to a quarter of my issues. Any advice is greatly appreciated !
P.s - I canāt move out ( religious reasons ) and Iāve never ignored my parents as it would make them fume with rage so I canāt do either of the two.

I know it is Ivy Day as well as that time of year when dreams are either achieved or crushed so I hope that my post can at least help relieve some stress for some of you. For context, I was a reasonably competitive student at a massive and very highly competitive public school. I had a very good weighted GPA (took 14 APs) and a decent but not outstanding unweighted GPA. I had perfect test scores and on the activities side I would say I was again decent but nothing outstanding (Varsity sport, minor leadership in a few clubs, some volunteer work and a high school job). My rec letters were probably good but nothing outstanding, and my supplementals were pretty good but my common app essay was mid at best. To put it bluntly, I was a good but unremarkable student in a sea of very competitive students. Most of you here seem to be strong students, and maybe some relate to me in terms of their application.
I applied as a business/econ/polisci major (depending on the school) to 22 schools including 4 Ivies. I believe all except my 1 safety school were T30 give or take. I pretty much just sold my soul from October to January shotgunning these schools. In the end, I wound up with 13 waitlists (none of which I got off of) and 8 rejections from the 21 top schools I applied to. I guess it makes sense, after all I was a student who could hold my own at a top school but I didn't stand out against a lineup of talented students with strong applications. By the time I got to Ivy Day, I was honestly so hopeless and numb that even if I had gotten into one I probably wouldn't have even reacted. My senior year was easily the most miserable year of my life, after all I had worked hard and had placed a lot of pride into where I was going to go to college.
It has now been almost a full year of school at my "safety", Indiana University, and I can genuinely say that this could not have worked out any better. First of all, I was offered a substantial amount in scholarships and had a ton of AP credit that allowed me to get out of most of my GenEds because IU is a state school. I have been able to experience the excitement of Big 10 sports and the social life of a large school. I am excelling in my classes and joined a business fraternity where I have met some of the most talented yet chill and personable people in my life. All of them are definitely capable of attending an Ivy and most of them have internships or job offers (mostly in business) that many Ivy league students would still struggle to get. Through my business frat alone, I was able to get an offer for an extremely competitive finance internship as a freshman. On top of that there is no toxic, competitive culture in my circle, everyone genuinely supports each other and wants to have a good time. I really cannot put into words how amazing this year has been for me, but you guys will have to trust me on that. I could go into wayyyyy more detail, but this post is already long enough.
The moral of the story is that while going to an Ivy or another big-name college is amazing (and I really wish y'all the best of luck), it is nowhere near the end of the world if you end up at your safety. It is entirely up to you as to what your college experience is, and honestly being a stronger student at a state school has been perhaps more beneficial to me than being an average student at a T20. I encourage you all to find a school that will make you happy, not one that you only want to attend for the name. Plus like after getting your first job after undergrad, what school you went to doesn't matter a whole ton. My mental health is the best it has ever been, and I know for a fact that if I went to another competitive school that I would be bogged down with stress and other things that would push me to my limit. I know I'm rambling at this point but genuinely I cannot express enough how thankful I am for IU and how thankful I am that the 21 colleges that rejected me led me to the place where I am and the person I am today.

I will start off by saying that in the last few years I have not been a good brother
I was a lonely and deeply unpopular person in high school and I made girlfriends my priority.
I am or was a codependent person and my partner would become my life.
Kara and I were always closest.
We are a lot alike emotionally and especially in our flaws, and her home was like a second home to me growing up. We are subject to the exact same vices and mental health issues, we have always connected in a way historically.
She is 17 years my senior.
In 2015-2016, I had a relatively healthy relationship with Kara and Jane.
I was seeing Kara and her children often, about weekly. I would take her youngest daughter to the park.
I had been the sole person to help Kara move the previous summer.
She was not on speaking terms with any of her six children because they did not accept her choice of then her new boyfriend, who is now her husband.
In fact, at the time no one in the family was speaking to her because of him. Jane wasnāt. My parents were not.
I got our mother to begin speaking to her again, as my role has often been peacemaker.
In fact her kids said vile things about her both to me in private and on public platforms.
They ceased talking to me when i defended Her. My relationship with them had never recovered.
He boyfriend, now husband, was strung out on heroin to the extent of being not functional during the move and she had no help beyond me.
She and I moved the house, emptied her storage room, and set up the new home (in which she still lives) alone in the summer of 2015.
She was also struggling in college and I was writing the bulk of her papers for her.
I would without trying to brag say she would not have graduated without my help.
I then got into what wouldāve a turbulent five year relationship.
My then girlfriend took an immediate dislike to my family and my visits with Kara decreased and I gradually became a ghost.
I would try to visit still with my then gf and she would complain and make it feel like I was dragging her there. Like I was a bully for wanting her involved in my family.
I was weak and my visits and upkeep of the relationship declined.
Things came to a head when in late 2018 Kara decided out of the blue to rescind my then girlfriend invitation to her wedding to the boyfriend mentioned above at the last minute.
This snub resulted in me not going to Karaās wedding as well, as I felt I would be betraying my ex, whom at the time I wanted a future with.
We didnāt really talk again until just before our mom passed away, in November 2020.
After she passed, there was all sorts of hopeful promises of a new family relationship from them.
Things would be better now, different, they said.
Our mother was a splitter; she had stood between us. Things would be stronger. Weād be a strong family they said.
A new day, basically.
Yeah.
The last time I saw either of them in the flesh was the day of her burial on November 17th, 2020.
They have seen each other, gone out. Gone on day trips together. Never a word of invite to me. I can go weeks without texting and they will not ask how I am doing.
Yet when Karaās son had Covid and ended up in the hospital in November 2021, she reached out to me and FaceTimed. I did my best to calm her, we talked hours.
Since then, nothing of substance.
Oh weāll have long conversations sometimes about our mother and things like that.
But Iām always the one reaching out first.
Mind you I have apologized for putting my ex first, multiple times. And in multiple ways.
They claim there is no issue and no bad blood. They claim they love me.
When I do raise my feelings on this issue of distance, I am gaslit that Iām lashing out unreasonably.
No invites to eitherās house. Then not asking to come to mine either
With Easter approaching I asked Kara about coming over and her response was tepid and sort of avoiding it or talking around it.
I friended her on FB a few days back.
My request still sits unanswered, neither declined nor accepted.
She didnāt respond to a text of mine for a few days this last week and when I asked
āDid I do something wrong?ā
She sent a picture of herself with her granddaughter. She is basically raising her now 4 grandkids.
āNo. Itās just nonstop kids. Like I donāt have five minutes.ā
āAre you doing okay?ā
āIām okay. Just have literally no time for me.ā
So yeah. Idk.

I [19] just want to clarify that I am no motorhead texan and everything that that entails.
I live in Stockholm, Sweden, Ive ridden public transit to school every day and I have never used a car to get around by myself.
With that out of the way, I have recently when I got a lift discoverd how much nicer commuting by car is, even compared to out fantastic public transit system.
you dont have to walk in the cold you can sit in a comfortable chair You dont have to climb up a thousand escalators You can put down your belongings You can listen to music on your stereo
On top of that it is almost ALWAYS faster, even at peak times, often twice as fast of-peak times. And the farther and less well-served-by-public-transit your destination is the bigger the difference, up to three times faster.
I looked at the tomtom traffic index and discovered that at peak times, in many us cities the travel time for 10km/6 miles (for dumb americans) is not even that much higher compared to Stockholm even though almost everyone drives.
So if I had the funds and and a driving licence I would almost certanly drive to school since it save so much time and is comfortable
This does not mean that we should not build public transit, just that we should also expand highways.
