Hi, coming here for support or to vent maybe? I'm having a rough week. Yesterday, I was denied a title change (not even asking for pay increase) at work because the CEO is a *narcissist and doesn't want me to have the word "director" in my title. I had a very traumatic past job experience which has added a whole pile of trauma on top of what I already went through as a kid. I feel like nothing I ever do is enough and I have a really hard time finding jobs where I'm treated like a human being. I even got a masters degree when I likely shouldn't have because I feel like I have to keep piling on more skills. I feel like I've been starting my career over for 7 years. I'm never good enough.
An hour later, I had to get a minor outpatient procedure but had to go under anesthesia. That all went fine and all is well so I am trying to focus on that positivity. However, after the procedure, I didn't feel great, and I was wildly anxious and my heart rate was too fast. I was REALLY looking forward to therapy today. Then she canceled on me. :(
Anyway, I'm not feeling grounded. Smoking a ton of weed. Didn't drink alcohol yesterday because of the procedure the day before. I can't talk to anyone and I feel like I'm slipping into old habits... Just coming here to see if anyone can offer any suggestions. This shit at work has rattled me. I feel like someone shook me like a snow globe and everything is spinning and spiraling.

I need some help from this awesome creative community. I have a PC with a secret that I need some help figuring out what it could be. The secret starts as an item, a necklace in his possession, that has a small vial attached to it containing some unknown liquid and other floaties, like a goofy snow globe, given to him by his mother.
The session zero for this character resulted in this background: He is from a human society on a different planet that had been conquered and enslaved by Illithids. The human colony he is from was known for their magic prowess and lore, and so the Illithids conquered them as they wanted to learn their secrets. While in captivity, and as a child, the PC’s mother gave him this birthright necklace and told him to never tell anyone that he has it, never to speak of it, as it holds great secrets and others will want it, etc. His mother and father had died in captivity as a result of interrogations and abuse. Soon afterward, a group of space fairing adventurers attacked the Illithids strong hold, killed the brain hive, and rescued these slaves. He was then taken, with all of these other rescued humans, to the Rock of Bral as a refugee, where he eaked out a life. There, he fell in with some thieves and showed he had some minor magic ability, and so was sponsored into service as an apprentice to a sketchy Wizard. This PC is a reluctant hero type, focused on secrets and so wanting to research more about the vial, found passage to Waterdeep and I have since swept him up in the DragonHeist module series, the Alexandrian remix. So, with that back ground, what the hell is the vial, the secret it contains? It’s a PC story arc, but one I could really use some cool ideas for.
The PC is now W5/CL1, his god is Ptah, god of knowledge and secrets, he is a reluctant hero persona (and he does a great job of role playing that even though I throw huge accolades at him).

Hello! Long time Reddit stalker, first time poster.
I am committing to purchasing a LR4. I have read so many articles, watched so many videos, scrolled so many reviews. Never have I seen something that is so life changing, yet has such a roller coaster of good comments, bad comments, pros, and cons! It really has made it so difficult to make the plunge, but you can't win everyone so I'm doing it to make my own opinions of it!
Some things I think I am going to purchase right off the bat in preparation for a future with a LR4 and want your opinion on, please, are: - I've noticed you can get cheaper priced and even biodegradable waste drawer liners on Amazon. Has any folks on here used alternate liners they can comment on? I am not too concerned about the waste level sensors because I track my animals' bathrooming as it is and know how often I will need to change the thing. A thicker or heavier weight bag doesn't scare me. - I have also noticed you can get 8-10 packs of charcoal replacement filters for around $15-19 (and often come with coupons making the price cheaper) on Amazon as well. Has anyone tried these? Are they worth it? - I've read several reviews and concerns over the brush seals. Sounds like the might be something I should keep on hand for when they wear out, yes? That doesn't sound like too bad of an inconvenience to keep an extra roll handy. - What about seal modifications to the globe to keep litter from getting between it and the base? I know Whisker has improved that since the launch of the Litter Robot 4, but how does it handle today, June 7, 2023? Is it worth picking up silicone seal strips to modify that? - Does the LR4 come with the larger or mini fence? Is it worth going onto Etsy or somewhere to get an even largetaller 3D printed fence? - And finally, the ramp. I know the ramp for the LR4 isn't out and you can get the one for the 3 with ramp adapter. But what about more outside of the box options? The whole reason I want to get a LR4 is for a rescue I have that doesn't know how to "cat" very well. I know she will be able to get into the thing fine, but leaving and having a sudden drop she will have a hard time with. I've been envisioning almost like a deck you would put next to an above ground pool. Are you picturing that with me? I think of a tiny platform where the cat would have a gentle step up and then be on a wide flat surface before entering the Robot. Then, when they're done, they don't need to jump out or step down, but step out onto a flat surface, take a little step down, and be on their way. My idea might be nuts because I haven't seen one of these in person yet to know, visually, just how high the opening is nor how steep the grade of the ramp is, but my imagination has been running wild and I am wondering if anyone else's has as well!
One thing I haven't seen yet is the lifespan of an LR4. I have friends and coworkers who have had the 3 for years and year and years and I hope the 4 will last a long time as well. I guess we shall see! Fingers crossed!

The queen has arrived in that subreddit now. It's a fucking nightmare world in there. I guess this is a "worlds collide"deal. I watch people and have for years under writing subreddits. I like viewing the world from my snow globe. It gives me a different perspective.
But I have never seen so many of the same delusions in one place before. I'm not being a bitch. I'm legit alarmed for people's safety.

I hope you know I would never intentionally do anything to hurt you or yours. You, of all people, should know how much I value maintaining healthy family bonds. I apologize for being sharp; I shouldn't have responded when I did and should have added a hyphen after pity. It reminds me of that one time I sent you that video clip of a Key and Peele skit concerning escalating text misunderstandings, and I correlated the skit to our conversations. You were all like K&P are tight (which, heck, yes they are, & I have a playlist for you), but I don't think I clearly communicated my point. Sometimes, when I think of you, I wonder how different our conversations would have gone if merely a quarter of our written communiques were verbal, let alone in person. Sometimes, it feels like the universe is taunting me with strange, recurring signs and intense, sometimes prophetic dreams of you. Like, yeaaars ago, I dreamed that you and a female partner would travel and total an RV. Stuff like that. The hardest is when I figuratively and sometimes literally run into you. I want to ask you many questions about how life has been and will be. I want to hug you tight and tell you how much I miss you. I thought if I reconnected with your wife, I could maybe gain a friend from way back when...and that she would see that I'm not a threat, so I could still be friends with you. You both should know from a mutual acquaintance the drama and personal fallout that came from my actions with a married friend. Why would I want to do anything remotely similar or related to that? I just saw you were struggling, and I thought maybe I could help since I know how it can suck, and I still love you, dude, as misguided and as unrequited as it is. And I was getting all these signs from the universe like all the other times that I should reach out. But I also don't want to cause any problems. There was no love lost between the cartographer and the globemaker, with one saying theirs was easier to use, and the other saying theirs was more realistic. It wasn't until the snow globe maker arrived that both men realized the error of their ways.

In a few weeks, I will be running a level 20 arc for my group (4-5 sessions). This post is to share my design idea so far and to ask for any fun ideas you might have. If you are in the Coldwater campaign, stop reading here.
In the first half of the arc, the party must enter a Beholder's lair and delve to the bottom to find the portal to the second half of the adventure. I want this particular Beholder to feel extremely creepy and alien, and I'm looking for ideas for things to put in its lair. Everything about it needs to feel "off" and uneasy, building tension before the combat encounter.
The Lair:
Right now, the lair is a tower sticking straight sideways (horizontally) out the face of a sheer cliff, like a spike, hundreds of feet off the ground. It has no doors, but it has windows on what would be the uppermost floor (if the tower was upright). A crystal at the "bottom" floor allows the Beholder to control gravity inside the tower. So, at first, when the party enters, gravity will be pointing toward the floor. But the Beholder can point gravity in any arbitrary direction at any time, tossing the party around (the Beholder doesn't care, because it hovers). This also means that any objects or "furniture" are mounted arbitrarily on the floowalls/ceiling, with no particular preference. The party must traverse several floors, from "top" to "bottom," to reach the portal.
The Beholder:
The Beholder is an extreme xenophobe/isolationist from another world. It will hide from and avoid the party, but it also cannot allow them to escape alive, because they might reveal the tower's location to others. Throughout history, every time the tower is discovered, the Beholder uses a version of Dream of the Blue Veil to teleport the tower to another world. So, this tower has visited every world of the D&D multiverse (Faerun, Barovia, Krynn, Tal'dorei, Spelljammer, etc.). I want to plant Easter eggs from each iconic world as oddities throughout the tower and would love ideas for those, too.
The Beholder is psychically aware of the party's location inside the tower at all times (unless the party uses concealment magic, like Nondetection, etc.), and it can talk to them psychically anytime. It will talk to them periodically, mostly to taunt and complain, but it will not dignify intruders by engaging in conversation. It is such an extremely fearful xenophobe that the party's presence is physically agonizing to it. It is probably an obsessive-compulsive neat-freak, too, so if/when the party starts touching things, the Beholder will be very upset.
The Beholder is too paranoid to ever reveal its true name, but, for unknown reasons, local legends call it "Mulmaster." (The current world is not Faerun.)
Combat:
The Beholder absolutely will not permit the party to leave alive. It will hide and hide and hide, until (paradoxically) the party is on the verge of leaving -- then it will attack viciously. To scale the monster up against a level 20 party, my current plan is to make each eye stalk a separate "monster" (all attached to the same body), each with separate hit points and initiative. The eye stalks cannot move on their turns; instead, the body moves 3x per round via legendary actions. The lair action is a version of the Reverse Gravity spell, but it affects the whole tower, and the Beholder can point it in any direction. The party can deactivate the lair actions by removing/destroying the crystal in the bottom chamber -- this will cause the entire tower to turn "zero-g." (Good luck to me, DM'ing this 3D combat!)
PC attacks can target specific eye stalks, but at +5 AC (or -5 DC). If they do not target a specific eye stalk, then we will roll to hit a random eye stalk. If an eye "dies" then it is removed from initiative, and the Beholder dies only when all of its eyes are reduced to 0 hp. Since the Beholder's anti-magic cone emanates from its center eye, it cannot be separately "killed" and only dies when the last eye stalk dies.
At the beginning of combat, the Beholder will also activate the tower's version of Dream of the Blue Veil, and a countdown will start. When the countdown reaches zero, the whole tower will teleport to a new world, the portal (the party's objective) will close, and there will be no apparent way back to their home world. In its earlier psychic ramblings, the Beholder will explain this, so the party understands the consequences of the counter reaching zero. So, the party must immediately dive through the portal after defeating the Beholder -- they cannot stay/loot/rest. This also means that the portal will close behind the party after they arrive at the second half of the adventure (Layer 66 of the Abyss, the Demonweb Pits), and they must find another way home after completing their quest.
The Beholder and its lair are balanced to only consume about half of the party's daily resources. There is no opportunity for a long rest during the adventure, but there might be short rests (the players are told this, up front, so they can plan accordingly).
Ideas:
I need to "decorate" the floors of this tower with bizarre exploration encounters and traps. This xenophobic, isolationist, obsessive-compulsive, neat-freak Beholder's wild-gravity tower has touched every world of the D&D multiverse. No one who enters is ever allowed to leave. This is basically an alien spaceship shaped like a sideways stone tower -- a sandtrap of esoterica from across space and time. I really want to play up the creepiness and uncanniness of it all, plus some Easter eggs for my players who are familiar with other D&D lore. This is also a level 20 adventure, so anything goes.
I'm thinking... a petrified Kender with a staff-sling. A Harper's pin. A snow-globe of Ravenloft. A Vestige of Divergence (the Wreath of the Prism?).
Then the creepy stuff... a mind flayer's head mounted backwards on a Tiefling body, with the Tiefling's knees broken and its intestines unraveled and hung along the wall, with hundreds of fireflies flickering inside them, like a strand of twinkle lights -- giving off painful psychic vibrations that do 1d4/round on a failed save within 5 feet. A suit of armor, with a skeleton inside, stuck to the ceiling by a panel of sovereign glue. A tesla coil zapping. A closed iron maiden, with a bloodstained spigot. A mirror that reflects your mother. A time loop trap. A sleep trap. A staring contest trap (an eyeball on a spike, and if you make eye contact with it and fail a save, you cannot look away and you cannot blink, until something breaks you away or you go blind). A panel of tiny metal pins that extend to match the contours of your face, but with a mocking or grimacing expression. An ant farm between glass panels. A collection of fingers, with the fingernails removed and replaced by teeth, occasionally twitching. A harmless will'o'wisp. That sort of stuff. Plus some loot.

I'm currently listening to Perturbator "Souls at Zero (feat. Astronoid)" ["The Uncanny Valley" - 2016] for mood and inspiration. (NSFW)

I remember watching "The Family Cruise" where when the family tries to escape the prison by using the ceiling, Chris tries to convince Dan to help them out, which he refuses until Chris mentions Mr. Mumbles, and how much she misses Dan. This makes Dan worry, leading him to climb up to break the ceiling while yelling out "Daddy's coming" in order to save himself and the others.
From that line alone, I could conclude that Dan is very protective towards his cat Mr. Mumbles, treating her as his child/daughter, going out of his way to make her as happy as possible even if it may intervene with his quests for vengeance like in "Mall Santa" where he buys her a person-sized snow globe or makes her a birthday cake out of fish. One episode even has her throwing an old lady when she unknowingly adopts Mr. Mumbles. Do you all agree with this?

Would it be too OP to have a snow globe augment that allows friendly fire to pass through the snow globe?
Frost used to be a favorite of mine, was the first prime frame I ever grinded. Way back when void keys were in place of relics. He's just fallen off as the defense king he used to be and it's partly because I can't attack half of enemies on the map if they're on the other side of the globe.
