Cashing out MOONs to Kraken guide
!I included links to sites you will need to use for convenience. Still, for your own safety, I encourage you to do your own research on them and verify if they are legit!
Also, I don’t know your level of crypto experience, so I’ll explain everything with a reasonable amount of detail. If you have any questions or something appears different from this instruction – don’t hesitate to text me. I’ll respond once I see it.
I’ll break down the whole process into 4 steps:
1) importing Vault into Metamask
2) preparing to swap
3) swapping and bridging
4) sending

1) This post perfectly explains the first step:
https://www.reddit.com/CryptoCurrency/comments/wkqgja/arbitrum_nova_and_metamask_update/
You’ve added Arbitrum Nova network to your Metamask and made it display your MOONs.
Also, add Arbitrum One* network to your Metamask, you’ll need it later at step3 of this guide.
https://academy.binance.com/en/articles/how-to-add-arbitrum-to-metamask
find section “Add Arbitrum Network to MetaMask”.
In result, the dropdown should show 3 networks like this.
https://preview.redd.it/6d5wf4rlvq4b1.png?width=331&format=png&auto=webp&s=82e232cfb8a262d1af2e42d6ac9ae982aa7a4e05
\Arbitrum One (also known as just “Arbitrum”) is a L2 on top of Ethereum. However, MOONs are on Arbitrum Nova, which is a different chain built on top of Arbitrum One.*
2) Before you proceed to swap your moons, you need to make sure what to swap them to in order to deposit into Kraken. MOONs are on the Arbitrum Nova chain, which Kraken doesn’t support. The closest and cheapest available option would be depositing ETH on the Arbitrum One network. That's what I suggest we do. Web search says they enabled it, but since I don't have a Kraken account, you’ll need to check to be sure. Go to Kraken’s deposits options to see if you can deposit ETH on “Arbitrum One” network
Here's what I found it may look like:
https://preview.redd.it/q5esm1k1wq4b1.png?width=747&format=png&auto=webp&s=822eee84c92584fe29232d230c0e0fdcc423bf42
Pay attention to both Coin and Network (blockchain): it should be ETH on Arbitrum One.
In the next step, you will need a bit of ETH on Arbitrum Nova chain to do anything with your MOONs.
Comment “!gas nova” under this post https://www.reddit.com/CryptoCurrencyMoons/comments/13ktlkl/gas_nova_comments/
the bot will tip you a fraction. That should be enough. Otherwise, let me know.
3) To swap MOONs for ETH go to
https://www.sushi.com/swap
Switch your Metamask to Arbitrum Nova network
Connect wallet to the site.
https://preview.redd.it/rvngiwm9wq4b1.png?width=1032&format=png&auto=webp&s=209b3c86db2ff618999d389336f771fc2b4f1993
Then, in the website, select Arbitrum Nova chain, then choose cryptocurrencies for the swap. You will be swapping MOONs for ETH. Input the maximum amount of MOON.
https://preview.redd.it/z4f0zc3hwq4b1.png?width=1042&format=png&auto=webp&s=9c73dcbf074637955244ae5f743b759759d4d027
Click Approve MOON. Sushi wil ask you to set up a spending cap (the amount you allow sushi to deduct from your account, which it will need to do when you swap). Choose the maximum amount and approve in your wallet. You will need to pay a small fee for Approving MOON. The fee is in ETH on the Arbitrum Nova chain which you claimed earlier.
https://preview.redd.it/bsa9zhzmwq4b1.png?width=813&format=png&auto=webp&s=fccfcf7287c05ec775199d15f044ccb90335575d
After you approve MOON, this button will change into "SWAP". To avoid conflicts with the spending cap (sometimes sushi doesn't allow you to swap your exact spending cap), reduce the amount of MOON for swap slightly (remove a fraction of the decimal, e.g. in my case I would leave 1.08 MOON for swapping). Then click SWAP and approve the transaction in your wallet.
Now you have your ETH on Arbitrum Nova and need to bridge it Arbitrum One before sending it.
I suggest orbiter.finance:
https://www.orbiter.finance/?source=Ethereum&dest=Arbitrum
Connect wallet.
You will be bridging ETH from Arbitrum Nova to Arbitrum. Select the corresponding options. Check how much the transaction will cost by clicking on the question mark at the bottom. This "Save $.." is what you are saving compared to the official bridge which you won't use. The fee will be around $1 here.
Click SEND. Approve the transaction in your Metamask.
https://preview.redd.it/hq5c6epxxq4b1.png?width=604&format=png&auto=webp&s=28bbe58f30a607f716f5198f0bfb9a1659229c0f
4) In your Kraken account, find the address to deposit ETH on the Arbitrum One network. Copy it.
In your Metamask, switch to Arbitrum One network. (Metamask desktop and mobile have slightly different interfaces, so the screenshots might confuse you)
Click send, paste the Kraken address in the address field.
First, I suggest sending a test transaction – a small amount of ETH about $2 worth to the see if it goes through.
So first choose a small amount (but not smaller than $1, hence I suggest $2. Some exchanges won't deposit a smaller amount) and click NEXT, then CONFIRM.
Once this amount of ETH shows in your Kraken balance, send all of the rest.

Radical Climate Group Deflating SUV Tires, Says It Has 'Active Groups' In 18 Countries

https://preview.redd.it/z24akqnxuq4b1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c190bfec0cace59010a53ca7c314970987dda4b
Under cover of darkness, activists from a radical left-wing group unscrewed the valve caps on tires, placed lentils or other pulses into the valve cap, and then screwed them back on. Tires of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) are covertly deflated.
In the name of combatting “climate change,” the group that encourages people to carry out sabotage activities on SUV owners claimed its operations had been expanded to 18 countries, including the United States.
“Reports [are] coming in of very angry #CarShaggers who are upset they can’t drive their massive tanks around Lisbon. Oh no!” the group said on its website on June 1. The group, calling itself the Tyre Extinguishers, announced its campaign had reached Lisbon, Portugal.
Here is the website for these crazy wackos: https://www.tyreextinguishers.com/news?slug=first-action-in-portugal-lisbon-suvs-disarmed
Tyre Extinguishers claimed that it now has “active groups” in 18 countries, including the United States, the UK, Canada, Austria, New Zealand, and Germany. According to the group’s Twitter account, on the night of May 31, more than 40 vehicles were “disarmed” by activists in Potsdam, Germany.
The group said it wants to make it impossible to own an SUV in urban areas.
To do that, we need people everywhere deflating 4×4 tyres, week-in, week-out,” the group said on its website.
In its first reported tire-deflating operation in the UK in March 2022, the group said that “SUVs are unnecessary ‘luxury emissions’, flaunted by the wealthy,” condemning the vehicles as “a climate disaster.” https://www.tyreextinguishers.com/news?slug=press-release-tyres-deflated-on-hundreds-of-suvs-overnight-in-13-uk-locations-as-demands-for-climate-action-grow
Its website released instructions on how to deflate tires and also pamphlets and stickers that activists could print at home and leave on targeted vehicles’ windshields.
“ATTENTION – Your gas guzzler kills. We have deflated one or more of your tires. You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car,” read the leaflets.
“We did this because driving around urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge consequences for others,” it continued. “We’re taking actions into our own hands because our governments and politicians will not.”
The group encourages activists around the world to target SUVs in “posh/middle-class areas.”
In April, the group said its members “deflated the tires of 43 luxury SUVs around the neighborhood of Beacon Hill” in its “first action” in Boston.

https://twitter.com/T_Extinguishers/status/1648941986945138694
Tyre Extinguishers said they only targeted “large, luxury” gas-powered SUVs, noting, “no tires were deflated on electric or hybrid vehicles nor any vehicles with handicap signage.”
But local residents were frustrated by the vandalism.
“I’m all for taking action to save the environment but I just don’t know that destroying people’s personal property or damaging people’s personal property is the way to go about doing it,” a local resident named Lauren told Boston 25 News. Lauren said her parents’ vehicle was targeted.
https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/group-claims-it-deflated-tires-dozens-luxury-suvs-bostons-beacon-hill-make-statement/VTOPJ4AVRRDA7CRF3SGCL7IC2I/
“My parents didn’t need to go anywhere immediately this morning, but I know another person in the neighborhood who’s a firefighter and couldn’t get to the fire station,” Lauren told the news channel on April 20. “There are plenty of people who work at the hospital and couldn’t get to work on time.”
Another resident reportedly missed a medical appointment due to the deflated tire: https://archive.vn/ZGguB
The Boston Police Department interviewed 10 victims on April 20 and made no arrests, according to local media reports.
Tyre Extinguishers activists also carried out vandalism in other cities in the United States. Last year, the campaign claimed credit for deflating tires in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, New York, and Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Describing itself as a “leaderless” group, Tyre Extinguishers claimed it had deflated the tires of more than 10,000 SUVs since March 2022. Last November, they claimed they had let down the tires of 900 SUVs in one night, with vehicles in New York and 7 European nations targeted: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/nov/29/tyre-extinguishers-deflate-tyres-of-900-suvs-in-biggest-ever-action

2023.06.08 08:58 zardfizzlebeef LPT: In Between Jobs and Living in Your Car? Apply to be a Security Guard/Officer and only work Fire Watch Security shifts. Work as many hours as you want.

In the unarmed Security Guard industry, there are guards that only do what are called "Fire Watches".
It's when you watch an empty building in your car.
You're usually not checked on by any field supervisors or managers. You can clock in and out on your phone. Sometimes you have to drive around the building once or twice a shift, but that's it. When you're done another guard shows up and you clock out and drive off.
I always thought this would be a sweet come up for someone on hard times living in their vehicle or for someone doing the Van Life thing. Most security companies are a little grimy so they turn a blind eye to the laws about working too many hours so you can work as much as you want pretty much.

Made some easy steps:

  1. Apply to any and all "Unarmed Security Officers/Guards" positions or 'Flex Guard" positions you can find online in your area.
  2. When you get the interview, or call from HR or whatever, specifically state that you are looking to only do Fire Watches. They'll be delighted to hire you and pimp you out to as many sites as they can find.
  3. Try to get as many shifts as you can. Tell them you want as much over time as possible. You'll go from site to site doing your normal things you do in your car but you'll at least be getting paid for it and you don't have to burn up gas doing Uber Eats.
  4. Profit??

I'm not sure if any of this will work for you but from what I've observed in this industry (especially in Texas) you can definitely get away with this and accumulate some money for yourself if you have to live in your vehicle.
I've known guards that would show up for a fire watch, clock in, then drive home until 1 hour before the shift ends. Then they'd return to the site, wait a bit and clock out when the other guard showed up to relieve them LOL.

Any way I hope this at least helps 1 person out there in need. Security is always hiring guards. Security companies LOVE fire watches because it's easy money. Not a lot of people want to be in their cars for 8+ hours but I take it you Van Lifers or folks living in your cars wouldn't mind.

2023.06.08 08:01 rallytoad Needing help with my budget

Hey all,
43 here, married with 3 kids.
I've been working 15 years for the same company and currently make about 60,000 per year after my last raise in January. My wife does not work, preferring to be a stay at home Mom even though our youngest kid is in 2nd grade.
The escrow on our 5 br home in Texas got recalculated and our monthly mortgage payment increased by $200.
I am scratching my head on where to cut costs in our budget. We literally skimp on everything and do not see what else we can do to cut costs. Our monthly budget is outlined below. Appreciate the insight, our financial planner says we should stop paying tithing or turn our thermostat up 2 degrees but those aren't really options for us at the moment.
Net income:4200 Tithing to church: 700 Groceries: 800 Electric/gas bill: 1200 Horse food and stable: 800 Mortgage: 1200 Internet: 100 Car payments: 1000
We are now in the red each month after the escrow increase.
I've run the numbers a few times but I honestly don't know where else we can make cuts in our budget. If any of you have any suggestions they would be appreciated.
Please keep in mind that the tithing is mandatory, my bishop says that tithing will actually be a net benefit when we factor in financial blessings from Heavenly Father, which I don't think my work would have bumped me to 60k per year if I didn't pay tithing. My kids and wife really enjoy seeing the horse too, though we only get out to see it once every two months since the stable is in Amarillo and we are in Dallas so the horse we can't really get rid of.
Anyway tia for your insight and thoughts.

2023.06.08 07:49 Minimum_Economics_30 So now I'm sensitized to isocyanates.

I've told this story so many times that my larynx hurts. I've dictated it so many times and then had to go back and correct the mistakes I'm working on carpal tunnel as well. Anyway as you can tell I'm at that point of the day where I felt I should share but what's the point? I work in an industry where I'm a painter of sets and such for corporate events and plays and things like that. So out of the blue they decided when you get day to use isisyanite-based primers and paints and we did it over the weekend and I was exposed for close to 16 hours with only a 3M gas mask with a regular filter in it. The sprayed product was called chassis saver. If you want to look up the MSDS you're going to have to type in chassis saver MSDS. It's got a whole smorgasbord of fun like methyl diisocyanate mixed with aluminum flake? That was shot out of an HVLP gun under pressure in a closed Warehouse because it was seemed outside so there was no ventilation for 2 days. I had ... okay let's just quit trying to give anybody to benefit it out here and say I had no protection whatsoever. Cuz if I'm going to mention the 3M mask but not the fact that I need a full body suit gloves full face mask with supplied oxygen and I'm supposed to leave all of my clothes at work including my shoes and not get it on my skin along with proper ventilation? Well none of that was done. First off because we weren't worried about the danger secondly none of that stuff is available to us at work and thirdly I wasn't even the one using the stuff. Didn't matter I still became concerned when the room was a silvery cloud of toxins so after a couple weeks when I realized I was asthmatic and having reactions every time I went to work? My GM had me apply for workers comp and sent me home for 4 days. Then I was asked to come back to work to help and the symptoms started again. It took me a while to figure out what was going on by doing some reading on OSHA and the CDC. Plus all the other articles and case studies. It all lined up it was obvious that I didn't kind of get exposed... I was immersed in it. That includes breathing it having it in my eyes eating after using it no ventilation and wearing the same clothes home along with getting some on my skin when I was helping him clean up afterwards. Poured it on the side of my abdomen because it was in a mixing cup. It felt really good. Anyway, as soon as this hit corporate everything went s*** house crazy. I continue to go to work for 4 weeks and see the doctor that they had sent me to and since I've been self-employed my whole life as a portrait artist? That's my college degree it's a BFA and fine arts. Probably kiss my oil painting career goodbye. So they got rid of the job I had and any other talents I could fall back on. Anyway yeah this is going to be kind of a sarcastic post so enjoy it. What doctor was I send to that was an expert on chemical exposure with isocyanates and occupational acquired asthma? What was the name of that place it's famous like the Mayo Clinic but instead it's everywhere and oh yeah Concentra. You know the place you go to and the doctor runs a stethoscope all over you and says he doesn't hear anything to indicate asthma even though it sounds like there's a kitten stuck in your throat? Then he tricks your blood pressure and says it's normal even though it's rising quickly? He asks you why you're there and nods his head and you can tell in his mind he's going "well that's like a total s*** show. If I do what the insurance adjusters are telling me to do I'm basically sending this guy back to work to die. So let me get on that" I would come in and he would look at me and say so what do you want to do today and I would say I don't know maybe doctor stuff like check me see if I have asthma I don't know what the tests are for us to cyanide exposure? You're the doctor what do you want to do? Oh you want to go okay well be sure and sign that box telling me to return to work because he can't find any injury or evidence of exposure. Thanks. Oh this week you want to do blood work. But you only want to test for the most extreme exposure the kind that would cause neurological damage and okay. So he sends off the blood test tells me it'll be a week. And remind you I'm going back to work every day and getting re-exposed to all the stuff that I'm now allergic to and it's damaging my lungs and I'm coughing so hard my lungs are starting to separate from the wall my back. It's funny it's hilarious you know but at least they're saving money. They get to watch it and hear it but you know... buck up cowboy. You shouldn't smoke. Yeah y'all managed to do more damage to my lungs in 18 hours than I did in 47 years of light smoking. Seriously five cigarettes a day maybe. No history of asthma no history of allergies other than penicillin. I always watched other people just go through miserable seasons I mean just I swollen shut it's not running down their face and I thought how lucky I am. So my job decided that wasn't fair and locked me in the building with a chemical that destroyed a town in India. And they only used it that one time and decided they didn't like the properties of it. Probably cuz it's not meant to be put on wood but that's what the chassis saver was for was to give it sort of a metallic quality so they can roll the what yeah that's right bed truck liner on it that was day two and early the next day. When everybody was at work. When we were applying this stuff they were only two people there me and my supervisor. So if you look at the time clock it tells you when and who was there. If you look at when this stuff was purchased and under what project the stuff was charged to? what client? While we were doing a huge project for caterpillar that they were having out in Las Vegas. Don't know why one of our designers figured that bed liner would be a good idea for some of the staging when you can achieve that with paint and clear coat. But that's what he wanted. So so much for avoiding it just because it's not necessary. In the state of Texas you can't sue your employer for personal injury unless you can prove gross negligence. I would say that kind of falls where we're at. Unfortunately the other thing in Texas is that there aren't many workers comp attorneys because in 1993 they passed some laws that made being a workers comp attorney a tricky thing and you can lose your license really easy. In other words it was a very business friendly law to get companies to move here. Especially when you couldn't get sued for you know sending someone on fire or destroying their lungs and life. So a lot of people can get a worker's comp attorney even if they're a crappy one. But most of them that claim to be workers comp attorneys? They're actually just want to hear your stories so they can see if there's a personal injury lawsuit in there due to gross negligence cuz that's the only way they're going to make any money in this state and if it's a chemical exposure? I've been told by several attorneys who had extreme sympathy for my situation that they couldn't even refer me to an attorney that would take my case hey there's no attorney that's going to touch a chemical exposure case in Texas because it's already tough enough. Well I've been put the ringer lied to followed by a private investigator in the whole time I've been on represented and doing all the paperwork myself which they throw at me everyday usually it's fake stuff or stuff with the wrong date or deadline on it they mess with any attempts I get to find another diagnosis when they know damn well what happened on what day and with what products and who was there and when you know there's just no disputing the fact of what happened and when it happened and that we weren't protected because they don't have that kind of stuff there for PPE. we don't use that stuff so why would we need supplied oxygen masks. If I'm spraying something with metal paint mixed with silo I put on a 3M mask and use it organic filter and keep an eye on when it's starting to wear out even then? I'm not going to get leukemia or brain cancer for another 30 years well after I'm not working for them anymore so they've got that going for them and as do I. And this happened back in February 25th and I was sent home immediately because they were extremely concerned but they be suddenly became unconcerned about 4 days later I guess cuz corporate got involved and told me to come back into work and I spent another four weeks getting worse and worse and worse having the weekends to try and recover but not completely so I would start off at a level of irritation and asthma that was already underway when I returned on Monday. This was fun. Because even though they can see it they would just blame it on my smoking which is hilarious because you know life and for that weekend I wasn't allergic to anything in that building for two and a half years and I'm one of two people in the paint department so it's not a huge crew I'd say there's about 30 people that work there and probably too many people in the front office getting paid too much just sitting air conditioning. I mean they do work but you know if they had the chance they'd probably urinate on your face. That's not fair. They would wait till you run conscious from toxic exposure to gases anyway. Or they would but the workers comp adjusters do that for them. I mean they pay them for a reason and it's not help the employee so? Why am I talking to them again without an attorney oh yeah see above. So yeah they're just having a good old time they're beating me like a pinata making me run around like an idiot and freaking me out with letters and false deadlines that after a while I began to realize it being seriously gas lit I stopped playing nice guy and started recording phone calls and screenshotting text messages to make sure they got saved and save me everything in files and whenever they screwed up and intentionally put the wrong deadline on a Federal form like a FL la form from the Department of Labor anything like that? I would call him about that and record the response. One of my favorites was well that was just a suggested date because you know if you got it done sooner then you would get the paperwork done sooner and everything you get done sooner and you know just faster. Well yeah I understand how that works Einstein thanks I understand the whole concept and time and speed Mass velocity whatever. I swear to God they treat me like Chaka from Land of the Lost. They're all like 30 years younger than me and about to lose their jobs to AI but hey it'll be funny to watch. Won't need all those people running CAD machines and designing stuff after a few years. But let them enjoy it while they can anyway back to my career being ruined so they've just been having a good old time calling me and then they sent out a private investigator to harass me and want to talk to me until finally I just exploded and said what is it exactly you want to talk to me about.? I've been advised by everybody I know who is an attorney who may not be working in workers comp but they are an attorney? That I should never ever meet with a private investigator especially one that's a third party. You know one that's hired and not actually from the company. Cuz then he's not bound by the laws of an attorney or a police officer or an investigator he can do what he wants. Especially since he wanted to just talk to me and fill in the details of what happened that day. You know what caused the accident. I asked him what kind of forum is this going to occur in he said we could meet anywhere you want we can meet at McDonald's but I'm sure you don't want people here in your private information and I told him I don't like McDonald's anyway so I don't know I guess maybe after I get done with this doctor and have a solid diagnosis of asthma and something to stand on I'll be ready to comment. But until then I'm not meeting with you without an attorney in the room and probably even after I'm not going to meet with you without attorney in the room. So now it's come to this thing where I do have a doctor that's helping that was accidentally in their Network because I guess it slipped to the radar that they had an actual doctor that would do spirometry and asthma testing. of course they're messing with her a lot. I get your phone calls I get weird texts everybody has assured me that I'm obviously being observed surveilled. I don't see anything but I don't care either because nothing to see. I'm not at work. Why would I have asthma at home? I'm sure there's some triggers out there but I haven't discovered yet but that'll be fun and something to do in my free time. Anyway they seem to be kind of stuck in this rut where they won't go forward or approve anything unless I meet with the private investigator. Finally I blew my stack and said that I have no obligation to me the private investigator I've made my statement they were two people in the room y'all know what happened y'all know what I'm saying was the result you're not allowing me to explore that so I would think the best way for y'all to fill in the gaps and figure out what happened and what the situation this is letting me go to a f****** doctor that treats me and actually trust me for the things that I claim I have. That way instead of treating me like I'm lying you can prove that I'm lying which won't happen because I'm not lying which is obviously what you know so what is it he wants to ask me about again oh yeah he wants me to fill in the details is he a doctor? No okay well how about you get a doctor to do it instead of somebody who follows people husbands and wives around looking for infidelity. So I still don't have an attorney and I called OSHA reported the exposure and all they did was call my workplace and say "hey, did you have an exposure there?" and they said "yeah, but we got rid of that stuff" and they said "okay great" slow clap into a face palm. Which you know, kind of blew my mind. Because I thought calling OSHA was starting a nuclear war. That they would be in there with clip boards and chemical detectors and wanting to know just what the hell happened here. Because they've been really hard on this chemical and they've been trying to educate the public but evidently calling and just asking if it happened and them saying "well we got rid of that stuff" . That's enough for them. never mind the fact it was an "exposure to isocyanates in the workplace that I was reporting" which is what they told me they were going to check on. I wasn't calling them to tell them that they had harmful materials in a building, so evidently the guy I'm dealing with doesn't understand exactly what the law is or what law I was trying to get them to acknowledge. Cuz that would help my case if there were questions posed by government officials and they had to tell the truth. Either way, if they reported the exposure?great. They followed the law and I would have that an admission that an exposure occurred .....or they didn't report it and it would look really bad and probably cost them some money. But to my dismay, OSHA is obviously a joke. At least here in Dallas. So it's been real fun, yeah it's been one disappointment after the other of people just saying "I know this is my job, but I'm sorry. looking at your situation I'm just not good enough talented or educated enough to take it on. I'm just one of those people takes the easy cases and if something looks difficult? Even if it's a matter of you possibly dying or living on the streets and your whole family getting kicked out and never having a proper diagnosis to have on your medical records to show other employers or people in the situations that you can't be in in the future? I'm going to go over here and handle this easy money case." I'm sure there are some attorneys out there that if they knew about me and my situation it'll be all over it because they like a challenge and realize that there's not much left to do. All the information that I have and phone recordings, some documentation of b******* that has accumulated over the past months. Because normally you know you'd call a lawyer at the beginning of the case and there wouldn't be anything there. But since they figured I was never going to get an attorney? It was just "hey let's whack the pinata guy" . If an attorney were to walk in at this point? We've got enough acts of malfeasance and fraud and deliberate dishonesty, misleading statements and instructions, recordings and plenty of Doom and gloom documents meant to make me quit give up or go away out of fear or exhaustion.....and all I have to do is just hand you this stack and explain to you what's going on and we could probably even find a case that had nothing to do with workers compensation and had more to do with fraud and gross negligence and just have fun doing that. I mean they've had their fun why not? I didn't go into this looking for a cash settlement I just wanted to be taken care of and as the law states it should be. But I'm really just kind of f****** done with the whole f****** thing because everyone I talk to everyone I talk to doesn't want to touch it. When you have workers comp insurance that doesn't have ANY (ZERO) doctors in their Network to handle workplace asthma? which is one of the most common workers comp claims it pretty much leads the pack with all the saw dust and gas fumes out there to breathe in. But no we didn't have any doctors that would treat that or even know how to treat that at all. in fact the ONE that I did find? had retired about 5 years ago. That was funny. it was always a interesting thing to find out that when you finally had an aha moment leading to a hopeful situation? That turned out it was actually just a straw man. Even dealing with the Texas agencies help with people who are going through workers compensation or having difficulties? It depends on how you get on the line there's nothing more extremely helpful to the point where they'll even call the adjuster to make them call you back and help you fill out your forms whereas there were others that are just generally irritated by the fact that you're even calling and don't know what you're talking about. Well believe it or not there are some people in this world that don't do workers comp for living and don't spend their whole time having to deal with it. Especially people that are self-employed portrait artists for most of their lives. I guess this long-winded rambling stream of consciousness is just what's going on in my head and I can tell you right now it ain't a lot of good things and nothing really positive to say about working for anybody under any circumstances and I wouldn't take anything that anybody said they were going to do for you as a fact. It's all good on paper and everything but when it comes down to it it's all about saving money and if it involves an injury that doesn't look good on their records they got to get rid of that and they really don't f****** care what happens to you. You could be dissolving with sulfuric acid on your body and they would tell you to get out of the Sun and quit smoking. And they just watch it happen until you were just a pile of just steaming you know white powder on the ground or whatever happens. Do I sound frustrated? Flippant "whatever. Didn't see that coming". So I guess if you're in Texas and you're an attorney that this work is compensation and you want your entire case handed to you and you can say that you want a chemical exposure case in Texas I've got it right here for you if not fine. If you're from out of state that's fine too if you'd like to file a lawsuit that they beat me with clowns I don't give a carrot to a donkey whether you do that or not. As long as we win the case and they suffer for their behavior. It's not all vengeance. I want but is owed to me by law. And I didn't get that instead I got financial destitution cuz they have not paid me a dime and I'm the runaround which is basically we won't honor your claim until you prove that you were injured on the job. Okay I can't do that unless I prove that I have asthma. So they send me to a doctor that doesn't treat me for asthma now he's my pcp. Finally I find somebody that can treat me what do they do they immediately start pulling the plug on everything saying that my time's up sorry this show's over quick turn off the lights but hold up a minute they were too slow and I was able to get in there and she's doing spirometry tests and everything but you know I know it's not going to be enough because that's why I need to do the super serious testing the kind that definitively says whether you have asthma or not and there's no doubt there's no doubt that these people can try and split hairs and make excuses. Then I get to try and type for the workplace which wouldn't be hard if I had an attorney because this in front of a judge and argue it this is the guy before this is the guy after he's got occupational asthma he worked here for two and a half years and then after that weekend where was the only two days out of the year that that chemical was present and being sprayed? After that he developed severe occupational asthma and an insensitivity to isocyanide due to acute exposure with absolutely no PPE or guidance instruction and now no help no financial help and the guys that I work with here in town that run the show don't talk to me anymore it's all corporate people that were states away and have no idea and don't care what the facts are they just want the positive outcome which is the one that benefits them. But we all know that. We wouldn't be in this form if we didn't know that. Ask for all of y'all that have had better luck congratulations. I am truly happy for you. I don't know where I'm going to be I know obviously you can tell where I am mentally right now and that if another person involved with the adjuster or my employers handed me a form fill out to get the thing that I need that ain't going to happen that they say would happen that won't? I'd wad it up and throw it back in their face without reading it and not worrying about what they say will happen if I don't fill it out. Because they know if I fill it out and sign it or if I don't fill it out and sign it? It wouldn't do a f****** thing. Unless it was an attorney wanting to get with me and get a retainer and all that stuff set up .....and get going. Because nothing.....everything else is just a f****** waste of time, gas and mental energy. It's just that's what it's designed to do... wear you down. You know the truth and you can't prove it and you start feeling like you're living in bad movie like invasion of the body snatchers or something. like I said, it's the ultimate definition of gaslighting. So if you're going through the same thing with workers comp? I feel your pain. I definitely have sympathies if your injuries are more severe or debilitating than mine and you're being treated like this, but something needs to be done about the system because I'm quite aware of what it is now. I've had plenty of time to sit down and parse out what happened and watch videos listen to other attorneys talk read articles on the chemical and how not only companies and workers comp are reacting to it, but also the manufacturers themselves. For instance the CEO that wiped out that city in India? he showed up one day for court in India and then claimed he had to return to the states to take care of some business and never went back. India tried to extradite him for several decades. But instead? he was able to retire with a nice fat paycheck Savage whatever you want to call it and live out the rest of his days in Florida. And I guess he slept well at night knowing what he did. Union carbide. Bought by now Dow? Pretty sure they have never done anything wrong..... I'll have to double check that but I'm pretty sure on they are on up and up right? If they have the good attorney defend the behavior. I mean chemical companies they don't f*** around.... do they? anyway. whatever. I'm not too jaded to where I don't want to accept help or nail these f***. Or just get what I deserve. So take my post as a bit of Comedy or just a rant..... some venting. Maybe you feel the same way. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. Just don't let it scare you cuz your case might be totally different than mine. I have an invisible injury and that's a s** place to be. Just like growing up in Texas. Well I guess it's time to lay down on the couch and play video games. How much is something like that pay?
My apologies if the punctuation spelling of what I've written up there (or actually dictated) has weird words that are completely out of contact in there somewhere. I dictated this because I'm so f****** tired of typing and I'm really tired of going back over what I wrote and fixing the grammar and trying to make it not look insane? It's just fatigue and I just thought I should get this out there in the Reddit forum. I'm a member of some other groups, but you know... first time listener first time caller

Upon vesting, I immediately sell any shares from the ESPP and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and transfer this money to the HYSA.
Where can I cut back on spending to save more for the house down payment?

2023.06.08 05:14 -Zubber Need help picking out my next truck. Looking for experienced Ford guidance!

I'm looking for a 2015+ Ford F-150
My budget is $35k. I'm not shy to buying pre-owed as I can do my own mechanic work and really just need something that will last me at least 8 years. Hopefully more. My current vehicle has been with me 11 years now. It's a little turbo 4 banger coupe that's been great and I have no plans on selling, but I've got a family now. I've got a business now. I need something spacious and I need to be able to haul equipment/inventory etc.
Options I want:
Also I should mention with work, I put down around 100 miles a day. For this reason I was looking into maybe an F-250 Diesel. I really like the Platinum Trim on the 2016+ with the panoramic sunroof and the telescoping trailer mirrors.
But prices are so much higher for the F-250 Diesels. I'd need to get something with 150k miles to stay within my budget. Which I wouldn't mind going up on my budget, but I don't feel like it would be worth it. I think I might honestly be missing something else about the F-250s that make them so expensive compared to the F-150.
A few questions that come to mind are:
Say the F-250 is overkill and the best option for me is to find a good F-150. Here are my questions:

2023.06.08 04:54 cdawg1102 I’m looking for a new daily that can also tow.

I’m selling my evo and I am going to buy a true rally car with a roll cage and such, but because of this I need a daily. I’ve been offered 20k for the evo, so I am thinking of allocating 10k for my main vehicle, 3k for a trailer, and 7k for the new racing car. I’ve got the race car and trailer already set up. However I need something to tow it now. I am in Houston texas, I’d prefer manual, but it doesn’t bother me either way. I’d prefer if it had good gas mileage, but my priority is driver engagement. Another thing I would like is the novelty factor, I want to stay away from the sea of white crossovers. The two main ones I’m looking at is a 1990s Bronco and a second gen Honda CRV

2023.06.08 04:48 Mission_Emergency_36 I am 32 years old, a full time RN-BSN student, live in Texas, and currently make ~$535 monthly.

BACKGROUND
Long story short I spent 8 years on the West Coast holding increasingly important positions in the energy industry, but I hated it with every fiber of my being. I started taking nursing prerequisite courses in January of 2020. Family trauma happened. I moved home to Texas to be closer to my family, quit my job (was making ~$130k with bonus), and took the plunge and went to back to school for nursing at 31. I am half way done with an accelerated BSN program and I have a 4.0 GPA. I love it so much despite it being very difficult. I have externship currently and I have an ICU internship lined up for my final semester, which is basically a guaranteed new grad job.
I currently live with my mom and brother. We are remodeling our house so we are in an apartment for a bit. Very tight quarters but thankful to be with them. Boyfriend just successfully made a big career move and is now a superintendent for an important and well respected organization in town making $60k annually with a 8% bonus. Very proud of him and very excited for our future - we are talking about getting engaged in the next year. He is getting an apartment in the next couple months after living at home with his family due to some major family health issues he has been helping out with so you will see some of the apartment search start to happen in this diary!
Currently boyfriend and I split going out expenses pretty much down the line, but with this new job we had a discussion last week about how he will pay for the majority of our going out costs moving forward once he gets his first paycheck this month until I start working full time again in January!
Previous money diary from August 2022 here.
ASSETS (comparing last money diary to now):

August 2022 June 2023 Difference
401k $156,400 $158,600 $2,200
Roth IRA $68,000 $68,500 (500)
Saving's account $41,001.43 $26,572.63 ($14,428.81)
Checking Account $3,024.58 $915.41 ($2,109)
HSA $8,800 $7,100 ($1,700)
Brokerage $440 $444 $4
UGMA $85,000 $84,000 ($1,000)
Pension forgot to include $27,000 N/A
NET WORTH: $373k
**I don’t carry any credit card debt / no student loan debt / no equity in any kind of home. I was lucky enough to be in a position where I saved up over $40k cash to pay for living expenses when in school. My UGMA account will be used as part of a down payment for a house in the next couple years. My current BSN degree is being covered through family. Also, trying to figure out what to do with my pension - depending how finances go the next 8 months I am in school / if I have any emergencies (I have 2 senior pets) I could cash part of it out or completely roll it over into an IRA.
INCOME
Income Progression: I worked in the energy industry for 8 years; my starting salary was $35,000.
I worked in the Seattle area starting out at $35k in 2014. Moved to a new job in 2016 for $65k and then another new job in 2018 for $85k +12% bonus. Got up to $104k + 20% bonus before I quit. Also worked as a CNA on the weekends for about 6 months for $15 an hour during COVID to make sure I really wanted to go to nursing school.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: It varies but the average so far this year it is $535. I have an incredibly flexible externship at a hospital very close to where I live where my director literally just lets me show up whenever I want to work. I make $17 an hour. I met a couple incredible mentors but I think I am going to quit soon since it just won’t be feasible to work this semester and I already have my ICU internship lined up for September. Trying to be easier on myself and put myself first and I feel very lucky that I don’t need to work. Don’t get me wrong the extra money is SO NICE but I want to concentrate on school, myself, family, partner, and friends. Work on top of an accelerated nursing program is too much. I am actually the only one working in my cohort currently.
Any Other Monthly Income Here: I live with my mom right now and she pays for most of the groceries, utilities, etc. I feel incredibly privileged and lucky that I can live with her and that she is able to support me in this way while I transition careers. I do lots for her to support her such as chores, errands, paying for big Costco runs, etc. My boyfriend also helps out with pet expenses and other things I want / need.
MONTHLY EXPENSES
I allocate the following to my biggest expense categories monthly:
WEDNESDAY - DAY 1
8:45: I slept 10 hours last night and it was glorious. I worked a 12 hour shift at the hospital yesterday and our patient acuity was very high.
9:30: Make a coffee and walk and feed my pup. I walk over to the pool for a morning swim. I love a quiet morning swim so much.
11:30: I had a nice 500 yd swim, drank a Premier Protein shake & ate overnight oats with blueberries for breakfast, had a relaxing shower, and started some laundry. Feeling anxious about everything I have on my plate currently. Also I feel hungover from work yesterday. I was going to work another 12 hour shift tomorrow but now I don’t know if I can handle it with school also starting on Friday and a very busy social weekend coming up. Luckily, my director literally lets me show up whenever I want so I may do 7 or 8 hours tomorrow instead of a full 12. Try to table my feelings to discuss in therapy this afternoon.
11:40: Sit down to finish some online orientation for my internship that is coming up my final semester.
13:03: Orientation stuff only took about 20 minutes thank god. I ran to the grocery store and grab a 4 pack of watermelon Celsius, frozen veggies, Eggo waffles, tea bags, string cheese, coffee filters, Wheat Thins, and lean ground beef ($37.01). Head up to the rooftop lounge at the apartment complex to FaceTime a friend that lives across the country since there is zero privacy in the apartment.
14:15: Get off FaceTime, work on some more laundry, and head out to therapy.
16:15: Good, productive, fun, and validating therapy session and I make it over to my friend’s condo to check on her kitties. I had set up a reoccurring biweekly therapy appointment now that I know my school schedule for the upcoming semester too. We talked about money fixation and anxiety and trying to let that go. We agree that I should sleep in a bit tomorrow, walk my dog, go for a swim, and then go to work. I don’t ~need~ the money so working 12 hours vs 7 or 8 is not an issue. My mental health is more important. Also the work hangover from yesterday is real.
17:00: Boyfriend comes over after work and jumps in the shower while I’m a couch potato (Disclaimer: he’s friends with my friend too and she’s 100% comfortable with him hanging out too.) We relax and hang with the kitties and catch up on our days.
18:45: We head to dinner. We grab burritos at one of our favorite local spots and I pay ($25.88). We look at houses for fun on Zillow and discuss what apartments we want to tour in the next couple weeks.
20:00: I make it home and have a long talk with my mom about her friend who ended up in the hospital today with a compound fracture. Long story short I’ll need to stay up until midnight to hand off the house keys, garage door opener, etc. to a friend who is driving into town that can take care of her dog. Her dog is a pit bull that is vicious to strangers so no one else can go over to the house other than this friend who pet sits and knows the dog.
23:30: The friend makes it and we hand him the keys and everything he needs. I had spent the evening tidying up and meal prepping and looking at more apartments. It’s amazing to me how much time goes into keeping a clean and tidy home.
12:08: I spent a half hour setting up my June budget and then pass out.
TOTAL: $62.89
THURSDAY - DAY 2
9:05: I finally wake up to a bunch of texts from multiple different friends / friend groups. Ugh. I’m just feeling really anxious about school starting tomorrow, my mom being very distraught over her colleague / friend, working today, and a busy weekend coming up. I make some coffee and walk my pup.
9:33: I call my mom while feeding my pup breakfast and tell her how I’m feeling and we both agreed I ran around too much last semester and I told her I am setting firm boundaries with myself to basically not do anything social during the school week once clinical start (Monday - Thursday) unless it’s like a super casual dinner and I truly have the capacity for it. I burned myself out at the end of last semester and spent weeks putting the pieces back together.
9:55: I make another cup of coffee and take myself for a morning swim. It brings me so much joy and grounds me. I swim 500 yards and then jump into the shower, throw my scrubs on, kiss my pup goodbye and head to the hospital. I drink a chocolate Primer Protein shake and call my friend L on the way to hear how her trip has been going so far. It was nice to catch up even though we saw each other over the weekend lol.
10:54: Ate my overnight oats made with half and half and some blueberries, clocked in, and headed out to the floor. Immediately get asked to be a sitter which literally never happens. Thank you universe. Feeling a little less anxious now that I’m here and feeling thankful for the little bit of extra money I’m making and being here for my community.
14:04: Maybe not thank you universe - the patient slept for a while then got extremely combative and was trying to punch me. I switch off with a coworker and head to the break room to eat a bowl I made with frozen veggies + rotisserie chicken from Costco + cheddar cheese on top.
19:09: I finally clock out. I had a snack of 2 rice cakes and some almonds at one point. Rest of work was wild (i.e. a psychotic patient that pulled out his IV and was throwing things everywhere, someone screaming in pain for hours nonstop, etc.) and had me questioning what I am doing making this career change. I am tired.
19:49: I make it home after swinging by L’s to check on her kitties. Jump in the shower. My mom has dinner ready and I scarf down this gorgeous basil, mozzarella, peppers, tomatoes, avocados, and olive salad + a couple Trader Joe’s dolmas + a couple pieces of fresh bread. Delicious. I force myself to get my food and my school bag ready for tomorrow and lay my scrubs out before I crawl into bed a little after 9.
TOTAL: $0
FRIDAY - DAY 3
06:22: Alarm goes off and I roll out of bed and take my pup for a nice walk. Give him breakfast / shower / throw on my scrubs / pack my lunch / give the pup a big kiss goodbye and I am out the door a little after 7:00.
07:47: I get to school and I am NOT feeling it lol. I stopped at Costco for gas on my way ($20.67) and I also swung by a very Texas niche store that sells all kinds of beef jerky my brother really likes to grab some for his birthday coming up ($17.98).
10:00: Class is boring - it’s tough getting back into it with an 8 hour cardiac lecture. It’s good to see my friends but struggle is real. I run into my favorite professor and she makes my morning. I tell her all about my upcoming internship and my boyfriend’s new job and she was stoked and told me to “lock him down” hahaha. I also make 2 phone calls to apartment complexes we are interested in cause my boyfriend doesn’t get great reception at work during business hours. One place doesn’t have any current availability but the lady was so nice and will be sending me a virtual tour later today. Schedule another tour on Monday afternoon.
11:30: We break for lunch and I eat the same thing as yesterday - rotisserie chicken + frozen veggies + cheddar cheese.
12:30: Spend the afternoon in class completely unable to concentrate. The professor is throwing ECG rhythms around left and right. 8 hours of ECG lecture is NOT a productive way to learn the material. I work on a couple study guides during class cause I cannot.
3:30: We get out a little early and I rush to meet my mom for a walk through of the house. I follow her back to her office because I sent a big Chewy order there. Pick up the box along with a Diet Coke, order us Cava for dinner, pick up Cava, check on my friends cats on my way home real quick, and then have a shower and relax. Mom pays for Cava and I thank her multiple times.
7:00: We eat dinner all together when everyone is eventually home (harissa avocado bowl for me!) and then my boyfriend calls right when I head out to walk my dog. Perfect. I miss him and have been having anxiety around our new schedules. We have a good 30 minute chat about our days before I spend the evening basically doing nothing. I chat with my family and mess around on my phone. Text boyfriend about different apartments.
22:44: Bed time after I brush and floss my teeth. I’m zonked from the week.
TOTAL: $38.65
SATURDAY - DAY 4
08:30: I’m awake! Did not sleep well at all cause thunderstorms. My pup is deathly afraid and will not stop shaking for hours so I end up sleeping on the couch on and off. We were up and down all night but somehow I feel okay. We go for a quick walk, feed him, and start a load of whites in the washer.
09:08: I have a shower, and then I head out to get my family coffee from one of our favorite spots.
10:45: Make it back home with 2 cold brews for my brother and I and a latte for mom. I also picked up 5 breakfast tacos and a German chocolate cake for Sunday dinner tomorrow ($56.24). I eat a bean and cheese taco and a potato and egg taco, start some laundry, and put air in my tires with my home compressor since my low air light has been on in my car for an embarrassing amount of time. Brother needs air in his tires too so turns into a production lol.
12:18: Spent a couple hours putzing around dealing with the tires and more laundry and packing a bag for tonight. We are headed to the lake for a friend’s bday party and I have no clue what I want to wear so I pack a lot of options and clothes for church tomorrow morning too. Now it’s time to drive around for a little bit and check out some potential apartments and do a small Target run.
14:02: I make it home from apartment cruising and my Target run. I bought a 3 subject notebook, tire pressure gauge with valve caps included, two bags of frozen veggies, mini coke zeros, and a bag of Lesser Evil popcorn ($21.50). I was so tempted to stop for lunch on my way home but lines were long everywhere so I made myself some cheesy eggs + 2 Eggo waffles when I got home. Put the valve cap on my tire that is missing one.
14:36: Make it to L’s condo and clean up after the cats and start the Roomba. Boyfriend texts that he is out of work and on his way over! He’s been up since 4 am this morning for work and I am feeling some type of way with everything on my plate / anxiety so we will see how long we make it tonight lol.
15:30: S is showered and we are out the door!
16:30: We make it to the rental, change into our bathing suits, and walk down to the river.
19:00: We hang out in the river for a good 2.5 hours. It was a good time - nice to chat with my school friends and their partners. Boyfriend and I head out before the real partying starts lol.
20:00: We eat dinner at this cute Tex Mex place. Boyfriend has some kind of alcoholic mixed drink and we share a fajita for 2 plate. Boyfriend pays - it was $70.56 with tip. I drive us back because he does not like to drive even after one drink which I am 100% here for. We are so tired lol.
21:15: Make it back to L’s condo and we take a hot shower and get into bed in the guest bedroom. It takes forever for us to both fall asleep.
TOTAL: $77.74
SUNDAY - DAY 5
6:50: Oh boy neither of us slept well. There was another thunderstorm. One of the cats was yowling nonstop outside our door. The ceiling fan was clanking on and off. The bed was way too soft. Up and down again all night for a second night in a row for me lol.
8:11: I’m showered and we are both dressed and we head out to one of our favorite taquerias for breakfast. I get 2 bean and cheese tacos and one machacado + egg taco. Boyfriend also gets 3 tacos and we both get coffee. We sit and chat for a while until it was time to go to church. I pay on the way out ($22.98 with tip).
11:40: After an hour of church and an hour meeting for a committee I’m on - I’m wiped out. Still have a house walk through to do with my family and boyfriend so I head over there and we are there for about an hour.
13:10: Finally made it home, walked my pup, and made myself a late lunch of Dave’s Killer bread toast + peanut butter + banana.
13:54: A girlfriend calls and asks if I want to get a pedicure this afternoon. We decide to get dinner together on Thursday instead. I’m actually very touched she called me because we are friends through another friend and normally don’t get together just the two of us. I’m really happy she reached out. I also invite one of my friends from school - I have been wanting them to meet for a while.
14:30: Nap timeeeee! I knock out for an hour then realize how thirsty I am and how badly I need to get out of the apartment. I get up, take the pup for a spin with my brother, and head to Sonic to get a large diet cherry limeade and then head to L’s condo to check on the kitties and chill ($3.34).
18:00: I spent a couple hours chilling on the internet - working on my google calendar, school organization, church emails, reviewing some apartments we may drive by tomorrow, and I download the remaining episodes of season 1 of Nurse Jackie to watch tonight. I had bought the complete first season over a month ago and still haven’t watched it all lol. That’s how little I watch tv.
20:00: We had bibimbap for dinner and German chocolate cake for dessert. Delicious. I clean up the dishes and do more laundry because that’s my life between school, work, working out, having 2 hairy pets, etc. Unpack my bags from the river day and sleepover last night too. Chat with my family.
22:00: Crawl into bed and watch some Nurse Jackie before passing out.
TOTAL: $26.32
MONDAY - DAY 6
7:33: I slept better but still tossed and turned. Still just anxious with everything going on, especially the start of another intense semester.
8:47: Pup is fed and walked. I open the windows because it is 68 degrees which is unheard of in June in south Texas.
10:06: I ended up doing a deep clean of my room hahah. Wiped down and vacuumed every surface. So much hair. My pup is shedding so bad. I change my bedding and toss my comforter in the wash. Thank goodness I have 2 sets of sheets now. I had only 1 for the longest time lol. I take a break and eat some Greek yogurt + pecans + banana + drizzle of honey.
11:03: I vacuumed the common areas in the apartment, took a long shower, and I’m dressed and ready for my boyfriend to pick me up. I felt like being cute today so I put on this new leather skirt from Alice + Olivia my boyfriend got me as a present that I haven’t worn yet + a white crop top + my cheetah old skool Vans. I’m so tired though lololol. This is one of the only Mondays we both have off for the foreseeable future so I am gonna rally and make the most of it!
11:15: Boyfriend is so tired too bahah. We go grab coffees at this cute little coffee shop I’ve been wanting to check out. I get a cortado. Boyfriend gets an iced caramel almond milk latte and I treat ($11.82 with tip). We sit and chill and map out what apartments we want to check out today.
12:30: Walk across the street to grab Tex Mex for lunch at a pretty famous place in town. I get the enchilada plate and boyfriend gets a chicken quesadilla plate. He pays and it is $27.89 with tip.
1:30: Go for our first apartment tour of the day and it is depressing. We drive around and check out the other apartments we are I interested in and then go on one more tour at a place that we are really impressed by. It’s $1.3k or so for a 500 sq ft one bedroom and that’s a stretch. Ideally he wants the base rent to be $1,000 or less which is quite doable. Yet again - south Texas prices for the win. He is looking at older buildings, but they are well kept up and in good neighborhoods. They are not in the hottest places to be in town, but definitely still nice.
16:00: We go back to L’s condo and chill and take care of the kitties. Discuss the apartments and ask my brother if he wants to get dinner with us and he agrees.
18:00: We head back to my apartment, pick up my brother, and head to dinner. We order a large caesar salad, an arugula and sausage pizza, and a mushroom and pepperoni pizza. This spot does $10 two topping pizzas on Monday and it slaps. I treat my boyfriend and brother to dinner ($48.01 with tip).
20:00: Home and boyfriend walks my pup with me. Brother makes us both tea and we have a nice cup of tea and chat until boyfriend heads home. I put together my breakfast and lunch tomorrow and then lay down to chill and have some quiet time.
22:30: Bed time! First day of critical care didactic is tomorrow and I am feeling mostly excited.
TOTAL: $59.82
TUESDAY - DAY 7
6:22: My alarm goes off and wakes me from a deep sleep. I finally slept a good 8 hours though!
7:10: I am showered and throw on some black Lululemon Align leggings and a swiftly tech tee. I was gonna wear real pants but screw that haha. I am really dragging this morning.
7:50: Make it to school and lecture starts at 8. Honestly - that lecture could have been given in 45 minutes but we spent the first 2 hours simply going over the schedule and clarifying assignments since everything is such a disorganized hot mess at the beginning of the semester.
10:05: We take a break and call a fellow church congregation member to see if we want to meet today to tour an organization that supports people immigrating. We are debating if we want to allocate church donation funds to them. We agree to meet at the location at 1:30.
12:41: We are done with class and I stayed a bit after to start making my study guide for our first test even though it isn’t for 5 weeks. I realize the time and quickly pack up and go heat up my lunch. Chat with an MSN student who I had met in orientation for my internship a couple weeks ago and he expressed his frustration about how the start of this semester is rough for him too.
2:38: We finish our tour and we are very impressed at the clean and organized operation. We agree to each write our own follow up email to the rest of the group before the end of the day supplying the church donating.
3:30: I make some jasmine tea and have some quiet time when I get home before starting on some dosage calculation problems that are due on Friday.
5:45: I end up spending almost 2.5 hours on homework - dosage calculations, an article summary, and start on a medication sheet. Ouch. I lay down for 20 minutes, take my pup out, and then head out to meet my friend for dinner at Cava.
6:30: I get the lemon chicken bowl and pita chips ($13.69) and we sit and chat for a 1.5 hours. We just saw each other a couple weeks ago, but so much to catch up on.
20:00: We agree to go on a double date in the next couple weeks and I head home. I walk my pup with my mom and brother, pack my gym bag and my food for tomorrow, write my follow up emails from today’s visit to the church committee, and relax in bed.
TOTAL: $13.69

TOTAL EXPENSES: $279.11
REFLECTION
I spent quite a bit on going out to eat this week with my boyfriend, family, and friends. It was the end of my school break and boyfriend is transitioning to a new job so we were a bit out of whack with spending on food. Usually we eat at home with our families more, but it was nice to go out and enjoy ourselves too. It was a super busy week for me too - which is the norm lately. I have a great community and social life here compared to the West Coast and I do not take that for granted. Trying to make myself more of a priority so I don’t burn out again, which is difficult for me.

2023.06.08 04:34 AHH-bbyshark my bf (25) and i (f21) are still nevermets 3 years later…i need some advice on how to help him come see me!

i live in texas while he lives in vermont. he works at a gas station that kinda takes advantage of him by making him be the only person who works nights. he got his friend to work there, but he isn’t very reliable. he has talked about wanting to come and meet me a lot and stuff. money doesn’t really seem like a big issue, but it’s the time — he can’t get time off without worrying about getting fired/his friend calling him over and over while he works to ask him questions.
i really want to meet him and stuff. we’ve both agreed we’d rather him come to me as there’s more to do here, more privacy, i have a car, etc.
sometimes when i bring it up he gets upset and so i’ve been trying to ignore it, but i always kinda told him a few months ago that if he doesn’t come to my college graduation next spring that i’d probably breakup with him. i woulda given him 4 years by then and as much as i love him i need someone to love me just as much. i don’t know how to help, approach the topic of him coming without him bringing it up first.
please give me advice that’s not just to breakup with him, bc i know that’s relationship reddit’s fav thing to say.

2023.06.08 03:30 Night_Ayss Need help paying for College, preferably in Texas

Hello, I'm going to be a Junior this upcoming Fall 2023, I just finished community college and transferred to a university in Texas. If you guys know a good loan provider that I can borrow a student loan at Texas, or programs that I should be aware that could help me and any other future college DACA recipients in Texas. Please share how you paid for the last two years in a bachelor's degree.
I'm aware that TAFSA provides in state rates and a little bit of financial aid but is nowhere near enough which is still too expensive to attend college for me. The university I chose is the cheapest there is too, but I have no way to cover the rest of the tuition. I am working as much as I can this summer, but it still seems to be challenging to cover everything.
I have a decent credit score, and a co-signer. if that would help.
I know people will mentions some scholarships, I can try applying to some, but it's not really guaranteed.
Any alternative ways to paying for last remaining two years of college, your help will be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.08 03:09 Givemeallyourtacos Are there any residents in this city who actually pay for an Alarm Permit?

I currently have a home alarm system, and recently, the company in charge of managing it requested that I provide them with a 'Permit Number.' so I was curious, I decided to look it up and discovered that in the city of San Diego, it is mandatory for homeowners with alarm systems to obtain and pay for a permit. I must admit, this requirement came as quite a surprise to me. I'm curious if any of you with active alarm systems have had to pay for a permit number as well.
Everyone operating an alarm system inside the city limits is required to register their alarm system. An alarm system means any single mechanical or electrical device used to detect unauthorized entry into, or detect fire and/or harmful gas in any building or other structure. The system alerts others to possible commission of an unlawful act within a building, or alerts of fire or harmful gas, and that when triggered, emits a sound, or transmits a signal or message that is intended to evoke a law enforcement response or emergency responder. This includes any audible alarm or other alarm system whether or not it is monitored by an alarm business, alarm agent, or alarm user; or installed by an alarm business or alarm user. The fire alarm user permit is for systems monitored by an alarm company. A permit is required by the Police Department if your home or commercial building is monitored for burglary/robbery. A permit is required by the Fire-Rescue Department if your home or commercial building is monitored for fire/smoke or harmful gas. If an alarm user has one alarm system protecting more than one address, a separate permit shall be required for each address.
The City of San Diego requires permits for burglary, robbery, fire, and harmful gas alarm systems for both residential and commercial properties. You may apply and pay your alarm permit fees online.

2023.06.08 03:05 TheDuzzyFuckling A Breakdown of the Splash Hits at Pac Bell/SBC/AT&T/Oracle Park

A Breakdown of the Splash Hits at Pac Bell/SBC/AT&T/Oracle Park
On Friday, June 2nd, 2023, Giants' first baseman Lamonte Wade, Jr. smoked the opening pitch of the game into McCovey Cove to take a 1-0 lead over the visiting Orioles. The historic home run was the 100th round tripper hit into the water by a Giants player since the best stadium in baseball (sorry Pittsburgh) opened in the year 2000.
While I found helpful data sources on MLB.com and Baseball Almanac, I wanted to dig a little deeper into Splash Hit data by both the Giants and opposing teams, specifically because I knew Barry Bonds had the most waterballs, but I had NO idea who was #2. Let me throw some fun facts at you first - these will be great trivia questions for the other, more offline baseball fans in your life.

Splash Hit Fun Facts

  • While Giants players have now combined for 100 Splash Hits, all other opposing teams have combined for 55
  • Joc Pederson and Ryan Klesko are the only two players to have Splash Hits as members of the Giants and another team - the Dodgers and Cubs for Joc, and the Padres for Klesko
  • Including Joc, four players have hit more than one Splash Hit as members of more than one other organization - the others are Adam Laroche with the Diamondbacks and Pirates, Bryce Harper with the Nats and Phillies, and Carlos Delgado with the Mets and Marlins
  • The Diamondbacks are the opposing team that has hit the most Splash Hits with 8
  • No player on the Guardians, Tigers, Royals, Twins, Orioles, Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays, A's, or Mariners has hit one yet, mostly due to limited appearances in San Francisco (not the A's though, they just suck)
  • Tim Lincecum is the Giants pitcher who has given up the most opposing Splash Hits with 5, and ten other pitchers are tied for second with two
  • Barry Bonds hit the first Giants Splash Hit on 5/1/2000, while Todd Hundley of the Angels was the first opponent to hit one two months later on 6/30/2000
  • No right-handed hitter has ever clubbed a Splash Hit, although Buster Posey came close a few times
  • EXTREMELY GOOD TRIVIA QUESTION ALERT: Who was the second Giant after Bonds to hit one into the cove? Utilityman Felipe Crespo, who bounced around the league for five years, amassing ten career home runs... 20% wet dongs isn't bad.

Splash Hits by Giants Player

Here is the graph showing the top thirteen Splash Hit bombers for the Giants. No surprise that Barry Bonds is alone at the top (and will probably stay there until we get Ohtani next season).
Take a shot if you thought you'd see Aubrey Huff in this post.
I was pretty surprised that Brandon Belt was #2, considering that he never achieved the power numbers it seemed like he could. Regardless, hitting almost one Splash Hit per year as a Giant was enough to get him there. It's great to see current players Yaz, Lamonte, and Joc moving up each season, and I think Joc will take #2 from Belt if he stays a few more years.

Disclosure Weekend June 2023: Clapback is Coming. Roscoe is coming! Steven Greer is Coming!
If I was a Congressperson questioning if or how the story could’ve been kept from them for so long, much of the established Old Media’s continued deafening silence on the story so far speaks volumes. Now imagine if this was the pre-Internet and social media days, or even worse, during the days of Operation Mockingbird, and how much easier to control the media then. Conveniently, this media silence also shows you who is likely going to be neutral and/or on the other side of the issue.
There are rumors that the NY Times is working on the story for this weekend. Their silence tells me they are probably going to be neutral/“both sidesy” on the story at best (Pro-Grusch article and Anti-Grusch article), or they’ll just have one huge long clap back piece from Julian Barnes saying it’s swamp gas. Who knows what their Editorial board is going to say, but I bet their newsroom is an interesting place to be this week.
So NY Times and probably other old media will finally get on the story this weekend. Opposite that, Roscoe Coulthart’s full length interview is coming, and it is rumored to be a flesh out of the Mussolini UFO story that dropped 2 days ago, possibly with new documents.
Dr. Steven Greer is holding a disclosure event that could be a wild card. Leave your personal feelings about him aside. His last one was solid and his witnesses came with evidence and affidavits and offered to testify under oath. Congress didn’t take them up on it last time. He should obviously try to give all that evidence to them now, plus whatever else he has gathered. Hopefully he will keep it classy.
Either way, Grusch’s revelations have blown open the door for people to seriously consider that we are not alone and that the US and all the powers have craft and bodies. Probably even more so after the new stories this weekend which should finally break thru to almost everyone.
This means that the following things can go over much much smoothly:
  • The James Webb Telescope can announce more and more dramatic news about finding life elsewhere out there.
  • ICER and Project Titan’s effort to get UFOs back on the agenda at the United Nations is probably a no-brainer.
  • The Galileo Project finding intergalactic stuff on the ocean floor? Whooptydoo! They’re already said they got craft and bodies, why not a dead space rock?
  • If Havana Syndrome really is from reverse engineered tech, much easier to admit now.
  • The Vatican has already said they would baptize aliens. With this Mussolini crash retrieval they could even admit that they already have.
  • And most fun: Skinwalker Ranch can dig dig dig, and them actually finding a buried UFO there would shock precisely no one. And as an added bonus, if they find it before all the shit hits the fan, their UFO can be studied by scientists everywhere with public peer reviewed results while the Government/Corporations keeping their UFOs secret would be less of an issue. Win Win situation.
Last wildcard: Grusch filed a complaint alleging retaliation under the NDAA. Why can’t Admiral Wilson do the same?
The law now allows anybody with knowledge of the UFO programs to talk. That’s clearly Wilson. He was powerful and they still threatened his rank and job prospects. The Wilson Davis memo is contemporaneous, now it’s on the record, and his testimony could 100% verify it, I suspect this is why all the rumors of him testifying flared up and then died way down. Because you don’t talk about ongoing investigations.
Until you do. Like Grusch did. Wilson or someone of similarly high rank and stature coming forward will crank this into overdrive, and that’s already been hinted at so I think it’s probably going to happen at some point. Look at what those last "soon" and "trust me bros" turned out to be.
It’s also clear to me that this probably is, or will be a constitutional crisis in the US at some point. It might be dealt with mostly behind the scenes but it could spill out onto the front pages. That is a huge huge deal and I don’t know the ramifications of it or all the other myriad things connected to disclosure. I try to stay optimistic but Lue was right. That is somber to think about. 90 years of football-sized craft (!!?!?!), aliens, and suppression? That’s heavy too.
But take heart. Somber is not the same thing as depressing. It’s been a good week so far and there’s a long road ahead of us yet. I’m confident the folks behind the push are not going to let it drop. WE GOT THIS.
Lastly, write your representatives. If a news outlet carried the story, click on their links and support them. Share ‘em with people. Hell, share them with your representatives. too! Help educate folks who are interested and new to this. Think of those who weren't here to see it and help carry on the fight!

2023.06.08 02:49 fishbowlpatrol Should I do anything special with my Mars 4 setup for safe garage printing?

Just got a Mars 4 with a wash and cure station for my first 3D printer and I’ve already determined that having it in my house vented out a window is not okay. I live in San Antonio, Texas and I’m not sure if the temperatures are acceptable to have the printer setup in the garage.
I can deal with only printing during optimal temperatures, but I’m not sure if having it sitting in variable temperatures when not printing is bad. I don’t know if an enclosure is necessary, what I would want to use as an enclosure, or if it needs to be heated in there or what.
I plan on printing periodically predominantly for miniature war gaming.

2023.06.08 01:44 878_Throwaway____ Rising Electricity Prices due to "Rising Wholesale Costs"

I just got an email from my electricity supplier saying "due to rising wholesale costs, we're increasing your electricity prices by 30%"
I was paying 27.5c kw/h, now it's 32.75c kw/h.
Apparently you can check the wholesale cost of electricity yourself, literally here: https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/data-nem/data-dashboard-nem
Apparently due to the cost of coal, and the fact that solar drops of at 4:30, the daily average wholesale cost from 75-90$ / mwh (7.5 - 9c kw/h) could go up to $350-400 from 430pm to 930pm. That was last years excuse anyway.
That seems upsetting but, in some way fair.. Until you look at Victoria, which looks similar in terms of energy usage - and it costs $9 / kwh. Not $90. $9, spiking up to $90. What?! Tasmania and SA are huge renewable energy users, with lower demand, so to see their prices at between $10 and $40 and spiking up to $70. QLD energy is $70-90, at the cheapest, spiking up to almost $400? NSW has similar base prices to us, but they spike up to $200.
Apparently they average contract prices over a 12 month period, and because of the war that started last year, the uncertainty resulting in increase coal, gas, and transport prices then are impacting the prices this year, because the power companies are saying "the prices last year were this much, now this year we expect them to be the same." Does that mean prices will never fall? What the fuck. 2024 will say, 'in 2023 it was this much, so it will be again.' Will it never go down if this is their logic.
Looking at rebates for buying batteries to store my solar power, QLD doesn't offer any assistance like Vic, NSW, SA, ACT and NT do. Victoria will give you $3k to buy batteries if you have solar. Qld could be incentivizing people to buy batteries to reduce the peak of just-off-solar power use that necessitates the use of expensive coal.
It's lucky QLD is at least publicly owned in parts, because even thought the wholesale price is so high, our actual electricity prices at the home are cheaper than Vic or SA. The thing is, if you look at wholesale coal prices: https://ycharts.com/indicators/australia_coal_price it did peak at over $400 back in October '22, now its down to $160, and trending down. Yet, because power companies are basing their prices off last years costs (a war broke out last year, what if it breaks out this year!) they're gouging us and throwing their hands up about inflation and rising costs of coal (lie).
If the QLD government is generating power, and is being paid at such an excessive rate for a wholesale delivery, from a contract, compared to the actually dropping wholesale price - surely there's some opportunity to rebate taxpayers who are struggling, or assist people to transition to more renewable sources?
But now, that being said, the Government must be getting fat stacks of profit from this contact -> actual cost discrepancy. With that profit coming in, why would the Government try to transition to renewable? Coal is currently hugely profitable. They've got a financial incentive to drag their feet on climate change, to open more coal mines - reducing the cost of coal for power generating, while over charging for it to the electricity company (and then on to us). It seems like it would be making them a lot of money. If more houses had things like batteries, the government wouldn't need to sell as much coal power at 5-9pm, and they would get less profit back for those times.
The short of it is, the QLD Government could renegotiate its contracts to reduce the price of wholesale power, based on the reducing coal cost, and keep our power bills low. Or they could use the profit that all of us are paying to them, by proxy through a middle man who's taking his cut, to transition to cheaper power delivery options that kick in when the sun goes down. But their not doing either. They make money from coal, apparently they could be making a lot, and so they have incentive not to do either of those things for climate change reasons, or reducing inflation reasons, because they're making cash.

2023.06.08 01:20 ProfessorFrink1 Am I a sucker: Fisker Karma edition

Hey all! Let me start by saying that I'm an idiot. I know this. So if you're going to read all this just to tell me that I'm an idiot, I want you to know that I know! Now with that out of the way...
I bought a Fisker Karma. Nay, I bought two Fisker Karmas. I bought one sight unseen and shortly after that, the same seller stated that the guy that encouraged him to buy one also had one. Neither car was running. This is a common issue with the Fiskers. The 12v battery dies and the car needs a special Fisker computer to wake up. They were cheap and my hope was to fix both and sell one. I was taking a risk and I knew this.
I paid to have the cars shipped cross country to San Francisco where one of the prominent Fisker techs is located. I gave him instructions: see if the cars are easily revived. If not, send me a list of what they need. This is November of 2022. He proceeds to tell me that one car is completely hopeless but that he thinks he can bring the other car back to life and scavenge some parts from the other car. He sends me a $6,000ish quote for the battery service. I green light this and we're off to the races.
There was an understanding that if, and only if, the car was viable and the battery was working as designed, that we would then perform a litany of other work. Some of this was stuff that you should do on a higher mileage car (control arm bushings, tie-rods) and other stuff is Fisker specific. The infotainment computers fail due to water intrusion. That's $3000. The heater pumps fail, the gear selector buttons, etc. They perform an entire cowl sealing that makes the car water proof because Fisker failed to do this from the factory. But here's the bottom line: I made it clear that if we didn't have a viable powertrain/ battery that no further work was to be carried out. I bet you can see where this is going.
Likewise, I relied on them wholly for telling me what needed to be repaired. The only problem I was already aware of was a defective blower motor (also water intrusion) which I replaced myself upon taking possession of the vehicle.
At this point they explain that the battery has been tested and is no longer displaying any codes. They ask if I want to do the remainder of the suggested service. This is about $6000 of additional work and includes replacing a door switch, tie rods, control arm bushings, the infotainment computer, sealing the cowl area, windshield wipers, a few broken under trays, etc. I gave them the go ahead and they perform the work. The car is done, my bill is paid and a few weeks after failing to find a shipper, I hop on a train to go get the car from San Francisco.
I'm leaving my hotel the next morning to get the car when the owner texts and tells me to get breakfast if I haven't already. The car has a check engine light and they want to figure out why. That's annoying but hey, it happens. I show up a few hours later and they explain that it has a cam correlation code. The cam phasers fail in the engines. It's an easy enough fix. It sucks that they didn't find that but my day's not ruined. What's odd is that my last Fisker had this exact problem and I know it takes at least two drive cycles for it to display the light and yet they tell me the light was never on. So that means the phaser decided to fail that day? Unlikely but ok.
Then they tell me about the traction control light. It turns on the moment you start to drive. "It never came on for us" was the official response. I've put 1500 miles on the car now. It's come on literally every time but once. It came on for them too. I'm sure of it. They just missed it. But still, I'm assuming a wheel sensor or something like that needs to be replaced. Again not the end of the world. I'm not upset at this point.
So now I start driving the car back to LA and almost immediately I notice that I'm losing throttle response in EV mode. Now I'm not talking after driving hundreds of miles or having the car for a couple weeks. I'm saying this happened on my drive home less than 50 miles in. You hit the gas pedal and the car does nothing. You have to put it in sport mode which starts the engine and bypasses the battery and then it drives fine. I assume I'm doing something wrong because surely there can't be a major issue with this car I just paid $12,000 to one of the top techs in the country to work on. If this is the battery, it's a major oversight and I assume I just have a mode setting wrong or there's a dead spot in the throttle.
I live with it for a few days and notice the problem only occurs in EV mode. That's not good. That means something with the battery most likely. This, combined with the fact that they missed the check engine light, traction control light and then I'm finding that the heater pump and the electric heater for EV mode heat are both dead, means they really put nearly no shakedown miles on this. They didn't verify it was a functioning car. They barely drove it after changing the bad battery modules and clearly didn't drive it more than once. Otherwise the check engine light would have popped up for the engine code. Indeed, I looked at the mileage and the car had something like 60 miles put on it in their possession. The all EV range of the Karma is 50 miles. That's one discharge and an additional 10 miles. I couldn't even discharge the battery the first time I drove it without experiencing the lose of power issue.
So I'm back in LA now and I call them. I'm not sure what to do. Because I'm really upset that they a.) missed a lot of issues and b.) barely put any shakedown miles on the vehicle. Clearly not enough to see that it still had issues. But I also need their help.
So they tell me to check the coolant pumps. I do. They're running. They tell me to bring it back to them. I do. They charge me another $1700 to replace a contactor in the battery and tell me that it's still having the issue. They say the traction control light hasn't come on for them but that they performed a steering angle reset procedure. I go to pick up the car yesterday. I move it 4 feet out of the spot and the traction control light comes on. I'm livid but swallowing my anger at this point.
I'm now $15,000+ in parts and labor into a car that doesn't work fully. The shop has offered effectively nothing other than a "we're sorry" for missing the stuff that they missed. There's no explanation for missing the battery issues other than that it didn't do it for them. Well of course it didn't. You didn't drive it enough.
I'm angry because so much of the work didn't need to be done if the battery didn't work. I didn't need the $1600 control arms or the $1000 tie rod ends. I didn't need the $3000 computer, the $665 gear selector switch, an oil change, under trays... any of it. I paid for another $7,000ish worth of work that absolutely did not need to be done if the battery was not viable. Not to mention all the stuff they missed beyond the battery. The heater pump and EV heater weren't noticed, the traction control light never mentioned to me, the check engine light, etc... Just a bunch of really obvious stuff here that was missed and I never even got the opportunity to say yes or no to have those things fixed.
And my struggle is that these guys are very kind. They are a family business with exceptional reviews. But I feel as if they really took advantage of me here, just with a smile on their faces and a kind demeanor. Even the return trip where they were supposed to find the issue they missed the first time, they charged me $1700. If the part didn't fix the problem, I would have removed it and done the labor for free because I severely inconvenienced my customer in the first place. This wasn't even a consideration for them.
Am I nuts here? I feel as if it's their fault I paid for the extra $7,000 worth of work and I'd like at least some of that back. I realize these stories have two sides. I've really done my best to be objective and just lay out facts here and these facts are accurate. With that in mind, am I justified in my anger?
FULL DISCLOSURE: This company let me purchase battery modules directly from the company they get them from at a large discount but they would not warranty them. That said, they are not stating that these modules are the cause of my existing failure. In fact, they are unable to say what my existing failure is at all. They're basically throwing parts at the car.

2023.06.08 00:48 Fendaan [WORK IN PROGRESS] Deadlands Character Background Generator

The Pathfinder RPG has a very detailed character background generator in Ultmate Campaign, and I've seen several generic fantasy generator tables, but nothing like it for Deadlands. So, I thought I'd make one.
Since character creation is done with cards instead of dice for the random tables, I decided to follow suit. I'm going to start with 14-15 entries per category, but would like to expand to a full 54.
All of these should be flavor only to work with Classic, Reloaded, or any other system. I want to make sure they are Weird West flavored, but not overly specific yet
