Hi! Can someone tell me what a bike tune-up averages in the Bay? I’m new to the area and the local bike shop wanted $175 for a basic one. Any bike shops recommendations welcome as well!

2023.06.10 06:11 zimmer550king Serious question: Is there any indicator for when the market is getting better?
The news of layoffs is an indicator that the market is bad. Any such indicator for when the market is good? Bloated salaries, Ukraine wins the war, stock market goes up (stonks), more new grads getting a job, more positive posts on this sub, etc.?
I am thinking of making a jump from my current company but want to do it in a very calculated manner and when the market is trending upwards.

2023.06.10 06:09 CyberZoneChi Need help deciding between current data center job, service desk position, and cloud data center role
Need help deciding between current data center job, service desk position, and cloud data center role
I'm in a bit of a career dilemma right now and could really use your input. Here's a bit of background about me: I'm 26 years old and currently working as a data center engineer for an airline. I absolutely love the travel benefits that come with the job, but unfortunately, there isn't much room for growth in my current position. Plus, I'm only making around $60k per year.
Recently, I've received two job offers that have me seriously considering a change. However, I wanted to give you a complete picture of my experience so you can better guide me. Before my current role, I worked as a cyber security intern for 8 months. Although I didn't learn a ton during that time, I did get exposure to tasks like application migration, software development lifecycle reviews, and even some Excel work.
Additionally, I have 4 years of experience working at AT&T, where I gained valuable skills in sales and customer service. I genuinely enjoy interacting with people, so dealing with customers is not an issue for me.
Now, let's get to the job offers. The first offer is a service desk position that offers a salary of $65k per year. It seems like a great opportunity to expand my skills beyond the technical aspects of my current role. On the other hand, I've also been offered a role at a big cloud data center with a salary of $75k per year. This role involves managing three data centers and comes with increased responsibilities, but it also presents a higher salary and potential for growth.
Considering my background and aspirations, I'm unsure whether I should stay in my current job and focus on studying, or if one of these new opportunities would be a better move for me. I'd love to hear your thoughts and any advice you might have. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you decide which path to take? Are there any certifications I should pursue to boost my career prospects?
Thanks in advance for your help

2023.06.10 06:08 I_draw_maybe Almost the end of of school but a rumor is spreading
New to reddit, but I just need to tell someone that doesnt go to my school
I'm in high school and I have three and a half days left. For some background, I have had straight As all year and recently got an award for academic achievement in world studies (WS) after being nominated by my teacher (my favorite teacher). I have WS as my 4th period.
While talking to someone (let's call her S) in my second period class, we noticed that a different teacher was listed on our classes list. The new teacher had then posted announcement about how he will be grading our work, test was postponed (not a big deal), missing work, etc.
So then S is checking her phone and she sees a screenshot of an Instagram chat for people from our school. One of them claims that my WS teacher had been giving people As and was a predator and had been caught smoking weed with a female student and was fired. I dont want to believe it. A different teacher said he was on leave because his mother was very sick and went to be with her. Another claims he is on vacation.
I dont think that this is true, but I can't stop thinking it is. My brain always thinks the worst thing, so its telling me that this teacher was boosting my grade and that I dont deserve it or my award.
What should I do? Should I go see the student support counselor, should I not worry about it? I dont want to believe my favorite teacher is a predator, hes one of the nicest people I know and he is sarcastic and many people like him. I just need some advice.

2023.06.10 06:06 lolduude2 What is a safe amount to take for someone who is very resistant to hallucinogenic effects?
I am fairly new to LSD, and I really REALLY want to have some crazy cool hallucinogenic effects. The only issue is I am extremely resistant to any kind of drug or mind altering substance. It takes a lot of edibles to get me high, I don't drink cause I never feel drunk from it, hell even my seasonal allergy medication barely works.
I started by trying shrooms, local store had some in chocolate so I started with 1g, no effect so waited a month and tried 2g, had some effects on my mind but nothing visual, so waited again then had 3g, 4g,... one night I had 8g of shrooms and didn't even feel much stronger than when I had 2g, and still nothing visual. Also, it only ever lasted about 2-3 hours, which from what I've seen it should be more like 6-8.
So I tried LSD instead, got tabs with 120micrograms each, had 1 tab, some mind alteration but no visuals. waited a month, had 2 tabs and I think I started seeing a little but of visual? Just a bit of vibrancy and slight waviness to some things, so I think it kinda worked. Only thing is the visuals were only for maybe 15 min and my mind felt back to normal after about 4 hours, which I know should be more 8-10 hours. Even though my mind felt back to normal, I still at least felt my body felt a bit different for 8ish hours, like I couldn't sit or lay in a proper position.
I want to try more so I'm currently waiting out another month, but I really want BIG effects, I want to see everything moving, see things that aren't there, just completely distort everything around me. I had a friend tell me they've had experiences like they've shrunk down and walked under their bed, or that the floor of their bathroom became waves of water under their feet, I want to feel THAT kind of stuff so bad.
So finally the question, what is a safe amount of LSD to take? I will most likely take 3 tabs next time, and 4 the time after if 3 isn't enough, but is there anything I should be weary of taking more and more? I see an average dose is 100-200micrograms but I'm up to 360-480 now. And is there anything I can to to lengthen the effects? Should I take all at once or space out each tab like an hour or something like that? I usually try to take on an empty stomach and I also don't take any other kind of medication. Thanks for help in advance!

2023.06.10 06:05 TurbulentExcitement2 That's it I'm writing an essay [fluff]
So for a long time I have had this opinion. The lugas are by far the best Ubers.. I will look at them as generalists.. I will look at them in thare therd forms if they have one. And I won't be talking about the new one as I can't get him yet
Going one by one nekoluga can keep the enemies away and freezing them. This is very good on Rush down levels. And now with his new talents he is a good anti Surge cat.
Shishilan pasalan is one of best nukers he can one shot a lot of average Rush down enemies. He has the best survivability as he can survive a lethal strike. And his power increases makes him even stronger.
Tecologa is the best lugas in terms of damage.being able to almost one shot a lot of bosses and he can one shot every metal enemie.
Ballaluga is a very good support unit being able to stall a lot of bosses.that is all he does but he does that varry well.
Papaluga is just as good as the rest of them his close range let's him Hit a lot of the backline. And his crse let's hime stop a lot of bad bosses.
Assassinlan pasalan is one of the best back line slowers. He has the longest range in the game he is almost impossible to kill. And he can help support ciberpunk.
Misticlon pasalan is another good backlineer and the multi hit can help wipe the feeld. It can also help keep the backline safe
E.kubilon pasalan is the best waveecritical hitter. He is great for metal spame stageis and and sit pritty far back
Furilan pasalan is the worst if the bunch and still pretty good he is a good backlineer shelld bracker. That's just about it
Legilan pasalan is the legend rate of the group being the rusher. He is great for combining with most other rushers and is great for rushing bosses and should always be in your line up.
I doubt this changed your mind but this is just my opinion. Love to see the war in the comments

2023.06.10 06:05 PuneQuencher99 Madden 24 is so far the best madden in recent years, hear me out
So far I’m happy with the game. Could it be better? Hell yes. If it actually mattered, would this game make or break the series? It would break it. But the reality of it is, the chances of EA doing anything after this game averages a 2/5 stars are almost nonexistent and they will be until their contract with the NFL runs out.
With that being said, considering this is the only AAA licensed simulation style football game on the market, I’ll give it props where it deserves it. I do think the player animations (running, catching) so far look much better then previous iterations. There’s a decent amount of new catching animations that make the game look and feel much better then 23. The players also maneuver a little more realistically when running. When EA said that they have expanded on the FieldSense technology, I can say that they actually have.
The new additions to franchise mode help the mode out much more. Personally, I am primarily a franchise player. Aside from purchasing the game, I give EA no money or attention in MUT and I only play friends occasionally in H2H. So almost all of my time is spent in franchise mode as either a coach who’s rebuilding a team or a player. The “new” additions this year help that out and do make it feel a little bit more fun to play. (I get it, not all of the features are actually new, but they’ve been added back after years of not being there)
Now, why they haven’t incorporated dynamic tacking physics into the game yet is beyond me. I’ll never understand why they won’t do this, and I guarantee you there is more of a reason then “because EA doesn’t care”. The QB animations so far seem to be slightly better but are still nowhere near being in the game ballpark as All Pro 2k8. The ball still likes to just snap out of their hands rather then smoothly roll off the finger tips. But oh well.
Overall, the game is a minor step up from 23 and does have small redeeming enchantments. But at the end of the day, it’s by no means going to “make” the series and it’s still going to average mostly negative reviews like it has for years.

2023.06.10 05:55 qveyo Should I move to a different state/country and if so where?
In a few years from now I will graduate college and work. I am wondering about where I should live or what place is right for me. Right now I live in a small town in Indiana. I was thinking about moving to a somewhat bigger city in Indiana, but now I’m not to sure if I want to stay here or not. One of my friends thinks I would like it in Japan and another thinks I would like it in California. So I’m going to list my preferences for what kind of area I would want to live in or just random information that might make a difference.
-I prefer to live in a suburban type area. (Somewhere that isn’t a huge city but not a small town either.)
-I want to live in a house. I would hate living in an apartment building forever.
-I would want to have my own car and drive it around. I don’t think I would like being in a subway all the time.
-I don’t want to live somewhere that has a high crime rate. I want there to be little crime.
-I want to live in a safe place. I don’t want to deal with dangerous places weather that be people or issues with nature.
-I think it would be cool to live in a beachy area but I also don’t want to deal with hurricanes.
-I think it would be cool to live in California but they have a lot of wildfires and things are expensive there. But maybe it wouldn’t matter if I made a lot of money.
-I want a decent sized backyard. I want to own a trampoline.
-I don’t plan on having kids and I probably won’t get married either.
-I want to be able to walk around and get exercise.
-I would want there to be nice places to shop.
-I don’t want to live in a boring place with nothing to do.
-I would love to explore my city and go to new places in it and walk around a lot.
-I would prefer to be in a liberal area. I would want to be around people that are pro lgbt.
-If I ever got raped and got pregnant I would want to get an abortion.
-I want to live around kind and chill people.
-I want it to be quite around my house, or at least pretty quite. As for in town I don’t care as much.
-I can’t handle supper hot environments. I have been to Florida and it’s too hot for me. I wouldn’t prefer to live in a super cold environment either but if I had to choose I would prefer a cold environment over a hot one. But a place with like a 60 degree Fahrenheit temperature would be nice.
-I don’t want to live in a poor area. I want to live in a place that I would make a lot of money from or at least a decent amount. (I plan on becoming an interior designer.)
-I would probably need to live in a somewhat busy city for my job. There aren’t many interior design jobs in small towns.
-I would probably prefer to live in the U.S. If I did move to a different country I would probably go to Canada.
-I hate super busy traffic.
-I get lost easily and I need to use a GPS a lot.
-I don’t know if I really care about being around relatives. A lot of my friends and family live out of state and my parents and grandparents and a couple of other relatives live in Indiana. I wouldn’t mind not seeing them all the time.
-I would want to live in a house that’s modern, minimalistic, and an average size.
-I would prefer to live at least somewhat close to work.
-I don’t want to work more than 40 hours a week. A couple of hours less would be cool. I would want a lot of vacation breaks. I would not want to work on the weekends. I would probably like a normal Monday through Friday 9-5 job.
-I would prefer to stay in one area and not move around all the time.
-I have a tree but allergy so even if I did move to a random country I would have to be careful about the food. I also hate seafood.
-I want to do my own laundry at my house.
-I like cloudy weather the best.
-I hate snow and ice and I get super anxious when driving in the winter.
-I don’t like wind and I don’t care for super sunny weather.
-I don’t mind rain that much.
-I don’t want to be in a super foggy place.
-I want to be able to hang out with friends on the weekends.
So based on this information, what place do you think would fit best for me? Thanks!

2023.06.10 05:49 Mizu_Soup_ Y'all seemed to like the fanfic with my oc so here's chapter 2
Chapter 2: Notebooks
It didn’t take Mizu long to memorize everybody’s names at the Armed Detective Agency. She got to know each of them quite well, though, the more she learned about Dazai, the more concerned she became.
This morning, for example, Mizu walked into the office to find Dazai sitting on a desk with headphones on, singing along to a song while everybody else was working. He didn’t seem to care that everybody could hear his singing, which, Mizu had to admit, wasn’t too bad. What really concerned her were the lyrics.
“You can’t do a double suicide all by yourself.”
“What is he singing?” Mizu asked, looking around at the other Agency members.
“Don’t question it,” Kunikida replied, looking rather irritated at the noise Dazai was creating as he loudly burst into the next line.
“DON’T FORGET to grab a friend! DOUBLE SUICIDE!”
Kunikida pinched the skin between his eyebrows and closed his eyes. “If he doesn’t shut up…” He sighed with frustration and opened his eyes, looking at Mizu. “Anyway, you’re going on your first job today. You need some hands-on training so you’ll be accompanying Ranpo to see how he does things.”
“Actually, I think Ranpo is already gone,” said Tanizaki, looking up from his desk.
Kunikida sighed. It was almost as if Mizu could see an invisible meter floating above his head that kept filling up with every tiny frustration until he inevitably exploded. Mizu hoped she wasn’t there when that happened.
“Atsushi, will you take Mizu with you today?”
Atsushi looked up from his desk with an apologetic expression. “Sorry, Kunikida. I actually don’t have any jobs outside the office today.”
The invisible meter went higher. “Kyouka? Tanizaki? Kenji?”
“I have a job outside the office today,” Dazai volunteered. “I’d be happy to train our rookie!”
Mizu turned around, looking out the window of the cafe. The sidewalks were flooded with people going to and fro. Which one of them had her notebook? She stepped outside and heard her phone ring again. This time, an eerie feeling crept up her spine as she read the words.
“Oh, come on! I’m a very good teacher.”
“I’m not subjecting our new recruit to your nonsense all day.”
Kenji joined the conversation. “I think you two are the only ones with jobs outside the office today Dazai might actually be the best choice.”
There goes the invisible meter again. Kunikida stood from his desk, his notebook making a loud noise as he shut it and slid it into his shirt pocket. “Fine. Mizu, you’ll be accompanying me today.” He refused to allow Dazai to be the new girl’s instructor when that man barely did his job to begin with. “As long as you follow my lead, this shouldn’t affect my schedule.”
Mizu wasn’t particularly excited to work with Kunikida. She really didn’t want to be on a job with him when his invisible meter hit its max. “What’s the job?”
“We’re looking for a missing person. A woman reported her husband not arriving home or at his workplace the last two days with no response on his phone.”
Mizu nodded and pulled out a notebook from the crossbody purse she was wearing. She began writing down the details of the case.
“She’s really into this,” said Dazai. “With that much love for notebooks, she might be your type, Kunikida.” He laughed.
Kunikida turned red. “Shut up, Dazai!”
Mizu looked up from her notebook at Dazai’s words and turned pink. “It’s not wise to date coworkers. You shouldn’t suggest that.”
Dazai laughed. “She even sounds like you, Kunikida.”
Mizu could see a vein popping in Kunikida’s forehead. The invisible meter is reaching its limit, she thought. He could explode at any moment. Mizu decided to try to diffuse the situation. “We should get going. You said you wanted to stick to your schedule, right?”
Kunikida sighed, turning his back on a snickering Dazai. “Yes. Let’s go.”
Kunikida explained the case more as him and Mizu walked down the staircase to the exit of the Armed Detective Agency. “The man we’re looking for frequents a certain cafe a few blocks from here so we’ll interview the employees and ask if any of them have seen him since his disappearance or if they’ve noticed anything odd about him leading up to it.”
“Perhaps he met up with people at this cafe. Those people could also lead us to clues.”
“You’re right.”
Mizu opened her notebook again and began writing a list of questions to ask the employees at the cafe.
“Do you carry one everywhere as well?” Kunikida asked.
Mizu nodded as she finished writing and slid the notebook back into her bag. “I do. A notebook is a very useful tool, even if it has nothing to do with one’s ability like yours does.”
“It is. Do you carry something for your ability?”
“I do.” Mizu reached into her bag and pulled out a water bottle. “Water manipulation is a useless ability without the presence of water. It’s best to keep this with me for emergencies.”
“That’s smart.” Kunikida replied as they exited the building and started down the street.
“Do you keep your name and number in your notebook so, if you ever lose it, it can be returned to you?”
Kunikida paused. “I never thought to do that, actually.” He immediately opens his notebook and scribbles his information on the inner cover. “Thank you for the idea.”
Mizu smiled. “Of course.” She liked talking to Kunikida. He seemed to be a reasonable person with good morals and standards. She admired that.
The two of them arrived outside the cafe and Kunikida held the door for Mizu who blushed slightly but made sure he didn’t see it as she thanked him and entered. It was a cute cafe, fully decorated with fake Sakura blossoms hanging from the ceiling.
It didn’t seem particularly busy so they made their way to the counter and asked to speak with some of the employees. The two of them spent a long time asking a list of questions to each employee there but nobody had any useful information on the missing man, nor had any of them seen him since the date he first went missing.
Mizu sighed as the last employee finished answering the questions and went back to work. “This got us nowhere.”
“I was expecting to find something to go on, even something small.” Kunikida replied.
“I’m going to get a coffee before we leave.” Mizu stood from the table and went over to the counter to order. A few minutes later, she met Kunikida at the door. “You’re not getting anything?”
“I’m okay,” he replied as they left the cafe. Kunikida decided to go back to the Agency and check the file for the case to see if there were any more leads to follow. Mizu followed him and was almost back to the Agency when she heard her phone go off. She reached into her bag and saw a text from an unknown number: I found your notebook.
Mizu quickly checked her bag. “Oh no.” She had left her notebook at the table when she went to order and never went back for it. She silently scolded herself for such a mistake. “Kunikida, I’ll be right back. I left my notebook at the cafe.”
“Oh, that’s an important thing to remember. Alright. I’ll meet you back at the Agency.”
Mizu waved bye to Kunikida as she rushed back to the cafe. She went to the front desk. “Excuse me, I left a notebook here.”
One of the employees looked over at her. “Nobody’s turned it in. Maybe check where you left it.”
Mizu was confused. She looked back over at the table she had been seated at but her notebook was gone. Someone had clearly found it or she never would have gotten that text. Why didn’t they turn it in at the front desk? That seemed like the logical thing to do.
Mizu heard her phone go off again and checked it. Another text glowed on her screen. I’m outside.
Mizu turned around, looking out the window of the cafe. The sidewalks were flooded with people going to and fro. Which one of them had her notebook? She stepped outside and heard her phone ring again. This time, an eerie feeling crept up her spine as she read the words: I can see you.
Who do you think has Mizu's notebook? Who do you think she'll be shipped with?

On Joe Rogen you brought up this phrase and said s.th. like "I don't understand this (or "This doesn't make sense to me .... then you may have used your phrase "be a monster" :-) {Perhaps retire that for a better selected word choice? -smile}. Joe, trying to be helpful, offered something like "peaceful warrior in the garden".
note: square brackets are my insertions
I have been studying the 4 gospels and the Letter of James (I feel this Letter of James is very important). In my studying, I have found that having different translations, such as: 1.NIV,
- "A new translation - James Moffatt, D.D. and
- "The New Testament in Modern English- J.B. Phillips 1960 is helpful when contemplating puzzling passages. -------------- "meek" is translated "humble-minded" in Phillips -----------------
======Humility ===========
"Happy are the humble-minded, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs" matt 5:3 (Phillips)
"unless you change your whole outlook ... and can be as humble as a little child, you will not gain the kingdom of Heaven
Matt:18: 3,4
A dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest, the most important.
The greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. Luke 22: 24,26
"you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. [no one is greater than the other] 9
And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. [setting another as greater than another] 10
Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Christ. [setting another as having greater spiritual knowledge] 11
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. " Luke 11:8-12
"He gives us Grace strong enough to meet this and ever evil spirit if we are humble enough to receive it. That is why he says: 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'
Be humble then before God." James 4:6-7
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

2023.06.10 05:42 Pleasant-Seaweed7568 Can you play competitively while using no skill moves?
I am new to fifa only ever playing fifa 15 for a bit and now hoping back on to fifa 23. I am struggling to create space with my players and they never push forward trying to make runs. I play more pass first averaging 135 passes a game with 8-12 shots a game. I always lose the ball just outside the opponents box to just inside it never breaking through and every time I try to use a reverse elastico, ball roll, or heel to heel I always get tacked mid animation and end up on the back foot. I am just wondering do have to have skill moves to win or can good passing plays be enough for some champ wins.

2023.06.10 05:37 Longjumping-Alps1049 26/I/USA- Looking for people to chat with long term
Hi there, I'm Longjumping-Alps1049 from the USA, and I happen to be an intersex person and part of the LGBTQ community (I'm pansexual).
I have a lot of different interests such as video games (mainly nintendo but I play the occasional playstation game with friends), researching history and historical facts, learning new mathematical theories, debating political situations in history, learning languages (I know a few, and I enjoy innovating things like the intersection of computer science and language translation), finding new connections between subjects, public health, and playing classical music (and just music in general).
Furthermore, I really enjoy teaching and learning from others, and would like to pursue a career as a teacher. But yeah, even if you don't have many interests in common with me, I'd still like to hear from you, just as long as you like to hear about some of the stuff above.Just please be between the age of 19-33.

2023.06.10 05:36 Optimalpower73 What do I do now?
I’m a 23 years old male in western North Carolina near Charlotte.
I first started working as a volunteer at a Fire Department. Worked as a barista at SB for a few months then I went part time at a city Fire Department. All the part time work dried up and I joined the Army as an infantryman. Served a little of 2 years in the Army and came back home where I was employed full-time at a different city Fire Department for a year and a half. Realized I wasn’t really happy there and decided to go into law enforcement(I know, of all the things THAT was my solution). Well I’ve been doing this for around 6 months now and I think I had the realization today that public safety just may not be for me.
All I have ever done is prepared for a career in public safety.
I have no education outside of a high school diploma and public safety certifications. I am married to the most supportive wife and I have a mortgage to make each month along with all the other glorious bills.
I really don’t know what to do to be able to find a new career. The stress load of Law Enforcement has pushed me past my breaking point and frankly I can’t stand to work another moment but I have no choice. I look on indeed but there is nothing that I can go to and make the money I’m making now with no education. I make around 45,000 a year and I’m still riding the line most months.
Any advice for me to find a new career this late in the game?
I’m just looking for 8-5 M-F, around the same salary, and benefits would be nice. I would also appreciate not having to worry as much about being able to make it home to me wife at the end of a work day.
Thank you for reading, I appreciate it.

Are you fed up with endless contradicting concepts? Are you tired of fake “gurus” who keep failing you? If you answered Yes to any of these questions, then I can tell you this: I’ve been there. My name is John Mulvihill. And I’m here to help you handle your dating life ONCE AND FOR ALL. Since 2011, I made it my mission get good at. no.. Be the BEST at this. My dream was to hit the 100 lays. I thought it was impossible. Fast forward to 2017, I am at 722 lays as I am writing this. Obssessed? Maybe. Do you have to take it that far? Up to you. Point is, I know my shit when it comes to getting laid. And trust me, I’m very far from being a natural. And no this is not one of those sleazy marketing tactics to make you relate. I was actually very nerdy. Virgin until college. However I do believe that my very high IQ and over-analytical mind is what helped me figure out a lot of what I am about to teach you. Back in 2012 I got to coach bootcamp along with the “top” instructors from an infamous company you might know about (starts with R and ends with D.). Here is what I discovered – Some of the instructors are actually knowledgable but fail to apply that knowledge. – Some of them have an incomplete or non-optimized strategy. – And some of them flat out LIE about their results. These instructors were promising results they couldn’t get themselves! As you can guess the student would NEVER progress or at least veryyy sloooooowly. Actually most of those students would average 5 to 10 lifetime lays although they have been studying that shit for years. How convenient is that for those instructors to keep selling you their new magic pill product every month huh? If you relate to what I am saying. I want to help you break that cycle. See, my goal is not to make of you a repeat customer. This is not my full time job. My goal is to make of you a legit PIMP and make this community great again. I spent years picking the brains of all the top guys I personally know who literally PULL EVERY NIGHT. Most of them prefer to remain anonymous and are not interested in teaching their secrets. With my critical and analytical mind, I kept optimizing what works and ditching what doesn’t. That left me with. submitted by AutoModerator to GenkiCourses_Cheapest [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 05:35 lonelady75 How my coworker singlehandedly destroyed the best job of my life
This is an old story, like, more than 10 years old, but I occasionally find myself thinking and still fuming about this, and I don't have anyone to tell it to.
I had a job working at a Headstart preschool. It didn't pay great, but I loved the work. Like, to the point that I would sometimes go in on my days off because it was fun job. I loved the kids, I felt like I was doing something meaningful - we were a preschool in a very low income area, we had kids from the local homeless shelter, new immigrants, kids who had been kicked out of other preschools for behavior issues... we took them all, and it was great.
It was just a satisfying job that was also, somehow, not too mentally taxing. Like, when I went home from work, i was home. It wasn't like when I taught at an elementary school and would go home and do hours of work to prepare for the next day. It honestly was just a joy to go to work, something I know is incredibly rare and I truly valued it.
I had a coteacher, who I'll call Shelly. Shelly and I got along alright, not amazingly, but alright. Although over the years, she changed in some odd ways. The first and weirdest one was she began to smell. Our preschool was not religious, but it was located in a large, old school Anglican church, with very high ceilings, and there were days that I would walk into the church (not our preschool classrooms) and be able to smell that she was there. That's how bad it was. And it was doubly frustrating because we had very different fashion styles. She tended to dress up ,and I always was in jeans and a t-shirt. So while I don't know for sure, I'm would imagine anyone coming into the room would smell the B.O., look at the two adults in the room, and think "well, that must be coming off the woman in the old t-shirt, can't be from the woman in the little black dress."
But I tolerated it because what else could I do? We were a small preschool, no HR department. And I don't know how to bring that up without being super rude.
But that wasn't the thing that ruined the job.
Our preschool had two separate programs, morning and afternoon, with room for 16 kids in each. Because of the neighborhood we were in, there were a lot of kids who would come and go (like, kids from the shelter who would get housing, and move away, that sort of thing), so our supervisor was always out doing community outreach to make sure we were full. We weren't always full, but that was part of her job.
But our supervisor ended up making a financial error, and got fired (she landed on her feet, I still hear from her occasionally, she's fine). The board of trustees offered me the job, but I know I'm not an administrator, so I refused, and they offered it to my coworker Shelly. And she took it. Which initially I was happy about because it would mean she would not be in the classrooms with me, and I wouldn't have to smell her.
One of the first things Shelly did was align our preschool with a large local Community Health Center (CHC). Which meant we were no longer an independent preschool run by a board of trustees made up of a bunch of old church ladies, we were now a part of a large organization with hundreds of staff. There was a slight increase in benefits, which initially came with a slight decrease in pay, which I remember finding a bit funny, but that was fine.
But almost immediately things got worse at the actual job. Our preschool was maybe a 4 minute walk away from a local library, with no street crossings in between, and we had, for years, taken our kids to the library once a month. We'd usually ask for one parent volunteer for that day, and if we couldn't get one, we'd ask a librarian to come to the preschool and walk with us so the kids would be safe. Suddenly, that was no longer permitted because of safety and liability concerns (the CHC was not willing to take the risk).
For years we had had random "water days" in the summer when it was really hot, where we would set up kiddy pools and sprinklers in our little backyard. I had gone and bought a bunch of kids clothes from local thrift shops using my own money and we would tell parents at the beginning of the summer that if the weather was hot, we would have water play day, and then if they were too wet, we would put them in the thrift store clothing, send them home and ask the parents to return the thrift store clothes. We would get about 80% of the clothing back, but it was fine. The kids loved it, no parents ever complained. But the CHC said that wasn't allowed anymore. We could only have Water Days on preplanned days when the parents could send their own change of clothing. And that effectively ended it because how could we know when the weather was going to be good for it?
We had also done monthly field trips to local museums and parks (again, always with volunteers -- we had 3 volunteers who came on regular days every week, and we would ask for parent volunteers as well). But the CHC thought this was too much of a liability risk and no longer permitted it. So that sucked.
But then something else began to happen. When we would lose children from the program due to them moving or aging out, they were not getting replaced, and our numbers got really low. This had happened before, but only ever for a month or so. This went on for several months. And of course, the CHC was super concerned. Because while we were a non-profit, and the parents didn't pay, we got money from the government to cover the cost of each child, and if there weren't enough children, the preschool would actually lose money.
The CHC started coming down on Shelly after maybe 6 months of this, but it just didn't get better. I arrived one morning to do my morning preparations and I could hear Shelly in the office with someone from the CHC and Shelly was yelling something or other, and then I heard her say "Well, maybe I shouldn't be here then", and that was the last I saw her for almost a year. She quit that day.
We got a new supervisor within a week, who did the proper community outreach, and we were filled within maybe 2 weeks again. So Shelly just hadn't done her job. But the problem was that 6 months of not being full had put us very firmly in the red, so the CHC decided to stop our preschool having 2 programs for the morning and afternoon and reduced us to one full day program. And that's when everything fully went to shit.
When you have a preschool that is open for 6 hours or more, suddenly there are things legally mandated by the government that you have to do. We had to provide breakfast, 2 snacks, and lunch. We had to have a nap time, craft time, and indoor and outdoor playtime (separate times). And this would have been fine except for the fact that the CHC had another preschool and so to save costs, they decided to combine the bus routes, which because of timing and schedules meant that our kids were with us for exactly 6 hours.
All of those government mandated things? They take up exactly six hours. So we had ZERO flexibility. I don't know if you noticed, but there was nothing in that list of things that included activities like reading together, circle time, etc. Basically, there was now no real teaching time going on.
Oh, and naptime was hell. People think it would be relaxing, but trying to get 16 kids to go to sleep at the same time is a nightmare. They are not all tired at the same time. Some of them don't nap anymore. Some of them cry, some of them need to be held to fall asleep, and then others get jealous, it was just... the worst. And it was government mandated to be, I think 2 hours? So it was two hours of trying to get kids to stay on their cots. I hated every second of it. We all did.
I was literally sneaking time during this whole ordeal to read and do educational circle activities with the kids. Like, I'm not exaggerating. My supervisor would be out for the day for something and I would think "OH GOOD! She's gone, I can have storytime today! Maybe we can do a counting game! YAY!" Because I would get in trouble if she was around because it was taking away from the things that we were legally required to do. The job went from being super fun, fulfilling and meaningful to feeling like I was babysitting and just making sure the kids didn't die.
I was the last of the "old" teachers to quit. I stuck it out for maybe 18 months. There had been, I think 5 staff from before the Community Health Center. The rest of them all quit within the first year.
Now, this might seem like just a random consequence of Shelly being bad at her job. But here's where it gets worse. Maybe 2 months before I quit ( and yeah, this definitely had an effect on me and wanting to stay), Shelly came back to visit. She and I were having a friendly chat, and I was telling her about the changes and how we were now a full day program and she looks away and says -- "You know, when I started, it was just half day. Not two half day programs, we were only open in the morning. I really liked it then. And I didn't need any more hours, that was enough for me to live on."
I looked at her a bit confused and said "well, I'm glad it was 2 half day programs by the time I started, I could barely make due with that income, to be honest."
And she shrugged, and then said "I kinda thought that if we couldn't fill the two halves, the Community Center would take it back to just mornings. I guess they went the other way."
And I just stared at her. And I think we spoke for a few more minutes and then she left.
She never said it outright, but I'm certain she deliberately tanked the program to try and cut it back to a halfday program but they went in the opposite direction. And made a wonderful job into a miserable one. And I think that was what took the wind out of my sails. I was out of there (and literally out of the country -- I live in Korea now) within a couple of months.

2023.06.10 05:35 anchornhelm Salary for a private science and math teacher?
Hello all! Does anyone know what the average salary for a private science/math/coding tutor is in Vietnam? When I look online, I mostly find figures for English teachers.
For context, because I know this figure can be highly dependent on one’s own background, I am a native English speaker with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from universities in the US and Europe. I have a decade of experience in academia and industry and am currently working on my PhD in robotics at a European university.
I only ask because I am entering into negotiations with the organization I’m volunteering for here in Vietnam and need to know how to value my time. Thanks for your help!
