Yes, it’s a
terrible joke and I can’t guarantee that there won’t be similar dad jokes to follow it in the future, so put on your funderwear because you’re in for a treat!
Here’s a little bit about me: I’m a fun & nerdy 35 year old, single guy living in Maryland. I’m 6’6” tall, (I spend a lot of time ducking under doorways and trying to find pants that fit my long legs), with a slender build as I tend to go to the gym regularly. In case you’re curious about personality and need a firm basis to go off of my love languages are words of affirmation and physical touch, I’m an ENFP, a Libra, and a Ravenclaw; get all that important stuff out of the way!
I was raised by a single mother to be a gentleman and taught that chivalry isn’t dead; I say please and thank you, I give compliments, I’m affectionate with hugs and kisses, and I’ll strike up complete conversations with strangers at a gas station or grocery store.
I am a
huge fan of comics, movies, and video gaming. There’s always a perfect moment to insert an appropriate movie quote into conversation. The most recent PC video game addictions are Lost Ark, FFXIV, Legends of Runeterra, Guild Wars 2, Magic Arena, and WoW. I also have a PlayStation and an Xbox I play fairly regularly. Other interests? Acting and performing, Marvel/DC, board games, conventions and concerts, DnD, Cosplay, going to the beach, Star Wars, PGH sports teams, Netflix, and listening to music. Speaking of music, my music taste is very eclectic and expansive. I listen to everything from Shakey Graves to James Brown to The Black Angels to Stick Figure and Rebelution to Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed to Cane Hill and Kublai Khan TX. I believe there is no such things as bad music as there’s music for every person and every mood.
I’m
very 420 friendly and am incredibly passionate about the beneficial effects of medicinal and recreational cannabis usage, so it’d be nice to vibe with someone in that capacity, and if you consider yourself “vanilla” in the bedroom we probably won’t be a good match.
Before this becomes excessive, I think I’ll wrap it up here. Thank you so much for reading and please send me a message if you read anything that sparked your interest. Come with me if you want to live!

2023.06.06 00:15 Far_Line8468 Thoughts on narrating a monster's thoughts?
One of the things that difficult to do is getting players to think tactically. Players have enough to worry about with their own character that thinking about 4 others can go beyond their bandwidth. However, this limits the difficulty and thus thrillingness of encounters you can actually run.
I think we often hope the players will just "deduce" what the monster is thinking and build a strategy from there, but I found this basically never happens. They assume:
1: I, the DM, is targeting certain characters, and try to play around what *I* think
2: I, the DM, is targeting certain players for the lulz
3: The monster is acting in a way they couldn't possibly comprehend.
The thing is, D&D isn't like World of Warcaft or FFXIV. You don't get 50 tries to throw yourself at a boss as you learn its mechanics. Statistically, you get ~3-5 rounds before one side is dead. That's not enough time to deduce anything of value, so personally, I've started just handing the monster's through process to them.
Every time a monster does something, I just say "The monster, seeing x, does y". Additionally, I just make it a table rule that their characters are smart enough to know all of this instantly. It may be metagamey and take out a little immersion, but I find combat to be far more interesting when doing it. What do you think?

2023.06.05 02:48 Balaur10042 The Gaelic Influence on FFXIV
On Gaelic
Gaelic, that "ol fantasy language of yonder Emerald Isle," has had an instrumental influence on FFXIV. Gaelic, or more accurately Celtic, the language family that includes Irish (Gaelige) and Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig) on one side and Breton and Welsh on the other, with Manx and Cornish having only recently begun a revival from their near eradication (which I will not go into here), includes a cultural influence. Folklore, costume design, and even distinctive regional dialects have influenced fantasy for over a century, and FFXIV is no different.
Celtic representation, including from the Gaelic language, has appeared as early as Heavensward and as late as the development and pronunciation of the Gaelic-like Fae language in Shadowbringers. Principal among these representations are the famous Ulster Cycle and the sidhe/sith. The Ulster Cycle is a collection of stories with a strong narrative focus on certain adventures and predates the Arthurian legends that were inspired by it. Originally sung in an oral tradition, they were written down during European missionary exploration of the newly "Christianized" Gaelic landscape, and thus these languages were also subject to the writing system of the day, with almost little variation since. This is why some names seem to have many, MANY extraneous letters in them.
Finally, a note: Here, the intention was to use "Gaelic" as a standin for "Celtic" as I was focusing on the Gaelic branch of the Celtic languages. I am wholly unfamiliar with and utterly unqualified to discuss Welsh or the other Brittonic languages, which have as rich and as beautiful an influence on fantasy culture, if not as well-used (for instance, Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles, Mabinogi, the Witcher games, and Elden Ring, etc., but famously even Tolkien employed Welsh storytelling and names in places like Bree).
A brief note on Gaelic pronunciation: The use of "h" after a consonant indicates the preceding letter is to be aspirated, meaning to be spoken with a puff of air rather than the normal form. This pronunciation can differ depending on where in the word the combination occurs, for example "mh" can be said two ways depending: as "W" at the start or middle, and as "V" at the end. In some cases, the "h" indicates a distinct pronunciation variation from the normal without an aspiration to approximate a sound in English, as the alphabet lacks these characters. This is one of the methods in which more characters appear than might seem necessary. This is also true of vowels, but the rules are more complicated. For example, the name Saoirse is said "seer-sha," Aoibheann is said "ay-veen," while Caoimhe is said "kwee-va" (edited: I had previously said this "kee-va" but am here amending this out of respect for Caoimhes everywhere, but if you say it "kee-va" note that you are loved, too.)
The Shadows of Mhach
The Ulster Cycle also influenced some of FFXII and other iterations of Final Fantasy works drawing from the folklore around the world. Primary among these are the adventures of Cú Chulaínn, the famous Hound of Ulster. What follows will be a list of terms from Celic lore and Gaelic used in FFXIV, how to say them, and what they refer to.
- Cait Sidhe, Cat Sí or Cat Sith - cawt shee - the black cat in Irish and Scottish folklore was not to be trusted; as suggested, it was a sidhe ("fairy") in the form of a black cat. By treating them with respect, as you would with any sidhe, they would return the kindess.
- Cú Chulaínn - koo hul-len - Irish hero and warrior, cursed to transform into a hideous best with limbs bent backwards, hair everywhere, and a savagery that was unmatched. His hideous form in the Void Ark is ostensibly as reference to this.
- Connla or Conlaoch - kon-lah or kon-lee - son of Cú Chulaínn and Aoífe (ee-fah), the sister of Scáthach. Thus it's no coincidence he appears in the Scathach fight in Dun Scaith, as he is her nephew.
- Dun Scaich, Dun Sgathaich or Dunscaithe - doon ska-heh or doon skee - the castle/home of Scáthach, located in Scotland, from which she trained countless warriors.
- Ferdiad - fur-dye-add - Another Irish warrior and ally of Cú Chulaínn, whom he ends up fighting to the death (his) via a spear through his backside - a gruesome way to go.
- Forgall, or Fergal - fur-gall - Father of Emer (ee-mur), whom Cú Chulaínn marries.
- Gáe Bolga or Gae Bulg - geh boolg-ah - Cú Chulaínn's spear, which splinters and splits endlessly. Created by the warrioseewisdom-lady Scáthach.
- Scáthach - ska-hah - teacher and mentor to Cú Chulaínn and creator of the Gáe Bolga, specializing in the spear or harpoon. She dwelt in the castle Dun Scaíth. She fights with a spear in Void Ark for this reason.
Additionally, some names appear in the Shadows of Mhach story, and enemies around the game world that draw from Gaelic.
- Cessair, or Ceasair - keh-sighr - Progenitor of the Irish people and a daughter of one of Noah's sons not counted in the Abrahamic origin myth. Thus, as the creator of Mhachi movement enslave voidsent, she is the "progenitor" of Mhachi black magic arts as they led to the downfall of the city-state during the War of the Magi. *Dalriada or Dál Ríata - dal ree-ah-dah - A kingdom in western Scotland, including current Argyll) and parts of northern Ireland. Famously, a version of this kingdom was featured in the Pixar film "Brave," in which four kingdoms joined and elected a high king among them. Why it was used for a battleship in FFXIV is beyond me.
- dullahan or dúlachán - doo-lah-han - the headless rider of Celtic folklore, most famously known from the Sleepy Hollow story. Anchag, an enemy in the Amdapor Keep (Hard), may be a notable headless horseman.
- Kelpie, or Each-Uisge - "kel-pee" but eh[k]-oosh-kee - lit. water horse, a horse that walked backwards and would lure riders onto its back only for them to find themselves unable to dismount whereupon it would attempt to drown them. As with other sidhe, treating the kelpie with wisdom, respect, and cunning but not malice will return that to the person; however such tales are rarer than the kelpie drowning the unwary.
- Mhach - wah or wa[k] (this is the "ch" in Scottish loch that sounds like you're gonna say "k" but instead puff the air out). Now, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that this word, like words written in Fae (see below), Mhach may not have been intended to be spoken in Gaelic, and the intended form is "mak" as this is how several developers (including Yoshida himself) have said it in media presentations or in Q&As. Thus, both are correct for different reasons and it's no reason to correct anyone.
Fae
Almost everything in Il Mheg, including the name itself, seems derived from Gaelic but instead comes from the fictitious language Fae, resembling a more phonetically presenting Gaelic, yet in keeping the consonant+h convention indicates there is still a use of the aspirated consonant relationship. The close relationship between the Fae entities and a Gaelic seeming langauge is not coincidental, and I'd suggest a strong adherence to using Gaelic pronunciation rules when phonetics fails the reader. For instance "Mheg" would be said "wek," and "Dohn" is probably just a respelling of
dun in Fae, being said "doon." Fuath, another name with very Gaelic spelling, would be said "foo-ah[t]" (that's a very vague 't' at the end), whereas the Nu Mou take their name from an entirely different game and probably sounds exactly as it's read, as indicated by voice acting in the game.
I'm not against reading Fae as Gaelic, nor am I against reading it directly phonetically; it's actually pretty hard to confuse what someone's saying whether they say ill-meg versus eel-wek, but I'm pretty sure the former will get less confusing as to what they're refering to, regardless of its distinctiveness. (It's also how voice actors in the game say it, so... there's that.)
Closing
Gaelic has a beautiful, folklorish flow to it so it's notable how well its used here in FFXIV. It lends itself fairly well to that fantastical feel. However, part of this has to do with its use in English language circles as "that fantasy language" - much like how Welsh has also been subjected - such that its identity has a fully functional, natural (and evolving) language has been overshadowed. But the benefit of its use has been that the stories of the Irish and Scottish mythic stories get introduced in a larger way than just the name of a random boss here or there; the names of adds, even attacks, can carry a lot of narrative weight (especially, as we see, with the use of Greek in later portions of the game).

2023.06.04 09:26 snowleopard103 Continuing Spectrum Meltdown regarding Pride Month
You may agree or disagree with the direction CIG has been steadily taking the game in the past 2-3 years, but one thing is pretty obvious to anyone with 2 braincells - majority of the demographic that enjoys Rust, MO2 and the like is not going to be on-board with Pride Month celebrations. Somehow I doubt that Rust or MO2 or Tarkov officially celebrate it in-game or on official forums.
Just accept that your "vision" and big tent MMO like WoW/FFXIV/GW2/ESO are not compatible and act accordingly.
I am sure if you make a "Big Guns Month" it will go down swimmingly.

2023.06.02 22:09 Ciel_Rosemont Strange keyboard issue with one game (FFXIV, Corsair K70)
EDIT: So I THINK (I hope) I may have found the culprit... another USB device (a 4-port hub). The keyboard was plugged into it (for a specific reason that I don't even remember now... it's been set up that way for ages, so initially I didn't even think about that being the culprit and just plugged the keyboard right back into it). The hub device pretty old, and I figured removing it was worth a shot... I logged into FFXIV and so far, no problems, everything is back to normal. So that may be it! If I'd thought about it I'd have tried removing it before making this post, but oh well, at least it seems to be solved.
Hello all. So I've been playing Final Fantasy XIV with a Corsair K70 Mk2 low-profile keyboard for years (on a Windows 10 PC). Never had an issue with the keyboard or the iCue software. The software has at times been kind of finicky and the config window would sometimes crash, etc. - but when I say "never had an issue", I mean a MAJOR issue, something that would affect playing a game using this keyboard.
Last night, right before I was about to log off FFXIV, the game suddenly began to act as if the "Move Cursor Down/Cycle Down Through Party List" key was constantly being pressed. If you don't play FFXIV, that simply means that when a menu is open, it constantly is trying to scroll to the bottom - if no menu is open, it is constantly trying to select the next party member in the list (I was not in a party so it was just selecting my character). This problem just BEGAN out of nowhere - I wasn't touching the mouse or keyboard at the time (wasn't even sitting at my desk in fact) when it just started. And hasn't stopped; the PC has been restarted several times and was completely off all night, but the issue persists today. No hardware or software changes to the PC that could cause a hiccup have occurred recently.
By default, "Move Cursor Down/Cycle Down Through Party List" is bound to numpad 2. I've confirmed that it is NOT simply "the numpad 2 key is stuck" - I rebound "jump" to numpad 2 (with the cursocycle function being unbound entirely) and nothing changed. No random jumps, but the "cursor stuck moving down constantly" problem was still there. Additionally, if I open up Word, it's not phantom-typing 22222222, which you would obviously expect if it was a problem with the key. So the problem seems to be that my Corsair keyboard is causing the "Move Cursor Down/Cycle Down Through Party List" function to be triggered over and over. But, ONLY in FFXIV - I've loaded up a few other games and bound a function in them to numpad 2, and gotten no odd behavior whatsoever.
This is also a problem ONLY with my Corsair keyboard. If I unplug and use this cheap wireless keyboard I also have, the problem is gone, even in FFXIV. So it's literally just the combination of this specific keyboard and this specific game.
Has anyone experienced anything remotely similar to this? Or might have some idea for what to do next? Only thing I can really think of is to completely uninstall and reinstall iCUE, then if that doesn't help, do the same with FFXIV. Any help is appreciated.

2023.06.01 19:51 elevenmile Weekly Ochiai's Interview with Naoki Yoshida (in full)
The following info is a summary, and contains some info that most people already know. Some information will be omitted. For instance YoshiP and the host's discussion on Metaverse, and YoshiP's opinion on AI (TL;DR: He has no definitive stance)
What is Weekly Ochiai? Basically an online based talk show program hosted by
Yoichi Ochiai. He's a media artist and academic researcher.
Program flow (from top to bottom)
Introduction
- Ochiai's introduction
- YoshiP's entrance, introduction (as usual, YoshiP's designation is very long: One of the Board Directors of Square Enix, Chief of Creative Business Unit 3, Final Fantasy XIV Producer, Director, and Final Fantasy XVI's Producer)
- YoshiP accepts the invitation because he gets a chance to speak to Ochiai (his first time talking to Ochiai). So much that he wanted to have a meal with him, so he attended the interview without eating. Ochiai is very honored.
- Introduction on what FFXVI is.
- Introduction video of FFXVI. This footage is chosen
Final Fantasy XVI Part I
- Story introduction
- YoshiP wants people to have fun with the story. To laugh, to cry and to enjoy. The length of the story is equivalent to a 4 seasons of overseas TV series ※ The word "overseas" instead of "western" is because of playing it safe. "海外" is mostly defined as foreign or overseas countries outside Japan (a general definition). If it's specifically western, the word "西洋 "would be used.
- As known before, they are doing their best to ensure there's no loading required in this game.
- Sure, people can enjoy the story, but please take ample sleep and rest as well.
Final Fantasy XIV
- Recounting the experience in how YoshiP got into Final Fantasy XIV. This is already recounted numerous times so I'm not going to repeat it anymore.
- Prior to joining/transferred to work on XIV, he was still in the Dragon Quest side.
- When FFXIV was in the progress of rebuilding, Ochiai was still in university.
- Rebuilding the game from scratch is touted by FFXIV as "the first in the game industry". Plenty of media people wonder why YoshiP just didn't scrap XIV and make it XV instead, which YoshiP says that doing so wouldn't restore people's faith in Final Fantasy series, thus revamping the entire game was necessary to do so.
Final Fantasy XV
- YoshiP heard that there are a lot of people who enjoyed FFXV, however the most glaring problem in the feedback he received was how "abrupt" the story ended, as well as the DLC and its issues. This was already touched on other interviews. So as YoshiP go to various places and talked to the players about XV, most of the criticisms he got focused on that. While each FF is created based on what the director wishes the game to be, since XVI is a title followed by XV, and story being one of the important elements of an RPG, YoshiP wants to ensure that they can tell the story in a coherent manner to address the cons. of XV and also prove to players and fans that Final Fantasy is still going strong, so story is where the development team is pouring their absolute effort in.
On how the story is evaluated※ by YoshiP when creating a masterpiece game
- YoshiP shares his thoughts by citing the difference between how a Hollywood movie is made (its system and how a script decides who to fund them), and how the game is created in Japan. As games are created by corporations there's no funding involved, therefore it's very systematic, and thus there's no evaluation/review involved in it. Since all of the ones developing the games are gamers too, they just read through and give feedback to the scriptwriter. Just that the requirement is to create a unified "story + game experience".
※ In Japanese, review, but the word "review" is not used because it's not really accurate when trying to get across the meaning in English
Final Fantasy XVI Part II
- When was YoshiP approached to make the game? 2015
- Ochiai points out that world changes a lot in between 2015 to 2023, citing the war between Russia and Ukraine, COVID, and even in game industry itself, Fortnite gaining prominence plus Unreal Engine's evolution, how different development 3D games have become, indie games and how game development environment has also changed and move forward since, so he asked YoshiP on how all of this affected the story and the development throughout. YoshiP then shares on how the game started its development: The game started with only 3 members, as at that time FFXIV was gaining prominence and is growing rapidly, and YoshiP directly told the higherups that immediately working on XVI was not possible because of this. And since YoshiP was, and still is, working as a director and producer of FFXIV, he cannot work as the director for FFXVI, which is why he chose Hiroshi Takai to take the position, out of time reasons as well as consideration to the fanbase (which he doesn't feel it's appropriate). The game started with only 3 members: Producer, Director, and Script Writer. As XVI being slowly worked on for one year, the transition from other staff members working on XIV to XVI began. The story was decided at that time to be static, universal and easily understood. The base of the story at that time was based on energy wars - There's crystals, crystals benefit civilization, flourished, and so on. Then the Blight happens, which he won't detail. Thus, it's a story containing military history, with medieval gothic Europe-style as a base, Magic, and each countries on war with each other fighting for resource. However YoshiP didn't expect that war between Russia and Ukraine actually broke out (he didn't mention this directly but you know what he meant) and he actually discussed with Sony before once to cancel the schedule he had with them during the second trailer release. He is worried that in this timing, releasing a game that contain a realistic depiction of war (followed by people dying in war and living desperately in face of death) may not be appropriate because of the events that are happening, even though it's just entertainment.
- Ochiai also cited a point where VI and VII (where he's from that generation) was also enjoyable due to how "movie-like" it is. And he also thought of how forward thinking VII was. YoshiP agrees because at that time, the Gaia Hypothesis was also gaining prominence during the 90s in Japan, which give birth to the concept of Lifestream, and that impacts him a lot. Ochiai also discussed on how FFVII Remake has a universal story theme that deals with energy as a theme.
- The other point of XVI is the Eikons and the Dominants, and how their existence affects the story as well as the "energy/resources theme" .
- Ochiai also brought up FFX, which he enjoyed when he was in middle school days. YoshiP also commented that Ochiai's generation is where they praised FFX highly as one of the greatest masterpiece (FFX is very popular in Japan)
- Ochiai followed by asking what would be the greatest FF for people before his generation. YoshiP answers that since he's 50, his generation would pick FFI as their favorite because coming into FFI after Dragon Quest is very different because of how FF is so much more dramatic, then followed by III due to how polished the game is due to the job system, as well as the occurrence of Crystal Tower. VII would be another shocking moment for YoshiP as the game transitions into 3D, as well as it's volume (3 discs worth of content), but ultimately the definition of what Final Fantasy is can be different from generation to generation, individual to individual.
- Switching topics, from 3 starting members, it then expands to about 30, and work further for 1 1/2 years for the alpha version. Ultimately due to the nature of the venue, YoshiP isn't willing to disclose the exact amount of people working on it, but it's on "several hundreds". This game is also not developed in Japan only, it's an international effort (production outsourcing, facial captures done in studio outside Japan, etc). YoshiP has given a very small info. You can press Triangle button to speed up the staff credits roll.
- YoshiP has cited the reason behind why it's full facial capture because of how the graphics have evolved up to this point that not using full-facial capture is going to end up looking fake, thus breaking immersion.
- Ochiai followed with another question on how much the graphics have changed between each titles he have worked on, from his days in Hudson Soft, to DQX, to FFXIV , then to FFXVI. YoshiP answered by stating that in XIV, there's a lot of considerations to make when it comes to graphic because of rendering several hundreds of people in one screen, and how the memory has to accommodate for home consoles, so it's a lot different than developing for standalone games. When it comes to standalone FF game, since they are developing the game from scratch, they can reconsider the technology (and did), and find out the trend, which development pipeline to use, and discard things that are unnecessary.
- And since the game is rendered on real time, Ochiai asks if there's anything YoshiP is particular about when developing the game through the use of game engine. YoshiP's answer: They wanted to stop using anything that is related to pre-render, but there is one particular scene that involves the sea (which he won't detail because spoilers) and he felt that going real time render is impossible for that particular moment, so he'd say around 95% of the game is real time, and the sea/ocean is pre-render, and characters that are rendered in real time will be pre-rendered just for that particular part and created a movie cutscene of it without any need of loading (since they are going with an FF with no "Now Loading" on screen). Another thing that the development team is particular about would be the use of Cutscene Editor (things they use to create cutscenes): with many people using the editor, addressing feedback and having programmers working to perfect the tools and create amazing cutscene through the tools as well.
- YoshiP has emphasized on one thing: He has no idea who or which department will be creating FFXVII (FF17). Of course the above mentioned experiences would be useful for any new work developed by CBU3 in the future, but he has no idea if the experiences working in FFXVI will help FFXVII for now.
On Worldwide Game Market
- According to this, as of 2023, the worldwide game industry market share (if the term is wrong please correct me) has reached 172.6 billion (Roughly 24 trillion yen), and in 2023, 88% of that number is occupied by the digital market, which includes console games (download), PC games (download), mobile games and so on.
- YoshiP has one again reiterate that this will be PS5 exclusive (for now). Ochiai asks if there's online or multiplayer content, YoshiP then answered that there's a high difficulty mode after clearing the game once, and a score attack mode will be available, which people can compete with others in scores. While it's not player vs player, the score will be uploaded to the leaderboard, and people can compete with each other. Basically, this is a single player RPG game. Ochiai comments that it's rare to see a game like this today.
- Ochiai then followed with his next question: In Square Enix, which age range/generation occupies the most for the current development team composition for FFXVI. YoshiP answered that the development members are mostly in their latter 30s (by average), which Ochiai commented that their exposure on their first FF lies on around VI or VII, and entered Square Enix after the merger (Square Enix was previously known as Squaresoft), and also got used to games emulating the movie watching experience, and pursue high fidelity graphics, thus they know what to achieve in terms of their ideal FF. YoshiP agrees, saying that FF has been aiming for high quality graphics since the near end of SNES days (VI), therefore expecting high quality graphics have been the baseline compared to other games. The other would be the game volume, story and music. Those components are what have been expected by the fans, so it's an absolute requirement when working in FF. As someone working in the management side, he is highly aware that those are necessary.
- Even the modelers of FFXVI are from Square Enix (meaning it's done internally, not outsourced). There's even staff members working specifically at sculpting (especially a master), working on the physical outlook of the Eikons. YoshiP specifically went to Fine Arts university to find talented sculptors to work for him. At first these people doesn't look like they're interested in digital work but demonstrating how important having a sculptor can contribute a lot to expressing their artistry in game industry, it changed their minds and thus willing to offer themselves to work on FFXVI. This shows that the development team can be very particular at their work, so even for sculptors, they can spend one full day only sculpting on the models.
- Ochiai then followed by asking about how AIs are utilized in FFXVI (as party members acting on their own, the game system operated by AI, etc). YoshiP finds it difficult to answer because it depends on which segment to utilize AI, but to him, there is a worth in creating a stage through human hands because a sense of entertainment can be felt from there, but for things that are extremely tough to be done manually, then a level of automation using AI would be better, although from academic point of view, the level is really low. However since the technology is rapidly advancing and it comes to the point where doing it manually can end up being unmanageable, therefore having AI managing some of the task proved to be helpful and positive in this case.
Questions from viewers
Q: What makes a game uninteresting/unfun for games that should have been interesting/fun? What can be done to make it (an uninteresting or unfun game) rise again from its ashes? A: I think the definition of the word "uninteresting / unfun" is not as good thing here, and this is what I said this last time as well. I received a lot of evaluation about how this "isn't fun" or "isn't like Final Fantasy", but if you keep looking into it it's just nothing but negative. Now, what makes it not fun, and finding the reason behind and analyzing it is something I love to do, so for example, server being too heavy, and opening a door takes about a minute? Yeah, that's not interesting, right? It just adds up to your stress. So from there once you dissect the factors and reason behind why things aren't fun, then the whole word behind what makes it "not fun" will no longer be a thing...(omitted halfway)...then by doing so, once you dissect everything, and when you solve them all things will become interesting. Well, at the very least I find that game will become interesting, and that's how I approach it with that mindset.
- YoshiP then cites his experiencing in rebuilding FFXIV at that time, smashing issues that are worth 12,000 lines in Excel during the analysis of what makes FFXIV 1.0 such a failure.
- YoshiP also cites that one cannot approach an issue and solve it through sensationalism.
Q: What are your thoughts in Final Fantasy remakes? I'd like to know what you think about FFVII Remake. A: To players like me who had played VII (the original) on release, the game is legendary. But how people accept the game can differ. Like when I was just focus on leveling up Materias during the end game, like how I was focusing on leveling Knights of the Round and other Materias before the final boss, and as I am working towards strengthening my characters to absurd levels, I ended up forgetting about the story. This happened too when I was playing Dragon Quest VI, where once I start to go ham on perfecting the characters, I end up feeling hazy about the story. But to me, if you were to ask me what's the most interesting part about VII, then it's definitely that part, right?
When it comes to remaking the game in modern context, since the game is developed by a different division, we didn't necessary discuss with each other about it, but I take that they have been thinking really hard on what it takes to remake this game. But still it's a game with a momentum where almost everyone in the company is involved in the development, so to release this with only one disc worth of content, 100% of it with the graphics quality we have today is likely impossible. Therefore, because VII is a game where those who played it already know what the game is about, so even if the game is divided into three parts, it's a game where the developers would want to properly create this game in its entirety, and it's because of this sentiment they have that it's been separated into three parts. Also, because this is an FF game that has begun to emphasise the appeal of its characters, I believe they are attempting to create a game experience while focusing heavily on these characters.
I've already known somewhat about the next game that everyone has been looking forward to, but since I'll get scold for saying too much so I'm stopping here but it's a very well made game so please look forward to it.
- YoshiP also cites that people have different answers to the question "What is Final Fantasy X", but they can't just take everyone's answers in and create a game with those in mind, so it's a challenge to create a game for the series.
Q: Are the accessories that YoshiP is wearing right now FF related? A: Necklace is from FFXVI. It's not even officially announced, and it's just a prototype. Since I like silver accessories, so when it comes to making things related to my own products, I usually conduct the supervision myself, and if the product is not to my liking, I'll never move on with it and release to the public. I also have two rings that are FFXIV related. The rest however are bought from street stalls. This armor looking ring I have with me is from Diane Westwood. I found this ring when I was involved in the production for another fantasy game when I was 25 and was looking for armor (as reference). This ring then appeared in my search results and I thought, "Wow this is so cool!", and this ring was the first time I actually used credit card and purchased it from a website. But that's the only branded accessories I have and the rest are from street stalls, and some stuff were bought when I was on official trip in Mexico and so on.
Q: How does it feel for Final Fantasy to have continued and reached 16? A: Wow I mean I am thankful, but it probably dawned at me that there's probably no series other than FF with the number "16" attached to it, yes?
Ah yeah, so I got a question from overseas media asking me when I was being interviewed asking if there was a discussion of doing away the numbering format for Final Fantasy titles, and I answered "yes I did" but somehow this led to voices being spread that Yoshida wants to do away with FF numbering format for titles in the future, and I gotta say no that's not what it is!
So I am doing a lot of PR things for 16 (FF16), there are people in their 20s, and those young media (consumers or journalists) who hasn't played a single FF title before. So indeed...I asked them why don't they play FF then? And I also did marketing research as well as talked to the players and gamers around the world. They told "Eh, so I have to play FF1 right? Like I don't have the time for it!" and I went, "No, no that's not the case!" And indeed you were right, as there are several foreign/western games that stopped using numbering on their long running franchise and switched to using subtitle format, but ultimately, well this is a debate I did take part, but there are a lot spinoff titles for Final Fantasy, right? Therefore, sure we can take the numbering off, but this will make it look like it's a spinoff and that is an actually difficult thing to do. And for most fans they are quite proud of the FF titles they like that are numbered and so it's not an easy thing to do, which is why we just went with it for 16. But somehow that part was all omitted and somehow they made it sound like I wanted to do away the numbering (laughs)! But since you asked, I figure this would be a good chance for me to bring it up and explain it.
- YoshiP also commented on the difficulty of reading Roman numeral and how confusing it can be when looking at 14 and 16 (FFXIV, and FFXVI).
- YoshiP also commented about the packaging design, since in Japan, the physical package only consists of a logo with a white background. But this time they've decided to stop it and go with packaging with artwork background. This led to YoshiP commenting about how they need to work hard to keep attracting more players to try out Final Fantasy and if they stopped moving forward, the series will end up being a niche as it is. So it's always important for him to keep figuring out how to get new players into the series and enjoy the series together.
Q: In the past, Director Kamiyama has mentioned that it's hard to look at things without being spoiled, and I think it's truly the case here but what about this time? Do you think it's better for us to lock Twitter in order to avoid spoilers? A: I'm quite a contrarian here and I also like mystery (genre), so I'd like to be surprised when playing it. When looking at PV, I will think "oh it's definitely this or that" and hype things up, and I do like that. But once I go further and got bamboozled, "Ouch I was wrong", or "No that wasn't the case!".
Ochiai: Ok everyone do shut down your SNS accounts!
YoshiP continued: So when playing the game, I'd love for them to concentrate without looking at info around the Internet. I also got comments saying that is it fine to show this much because so many trailers have been released, and I have to say we haven't shown anything crucial.
Ochiai: Ah, so a shutdown is required then.
YoshiP: Yeah please do. Well, there's also many people who judge purchases through looking at livestreams and decide whether to buy from there. I don't deny what they're doing here but for those who want the full experience, it'd be nice if they shut themselves completely online so that they can enjoy the game in full.
Q: We have game livestreaming in today's age and the feeling is the same as looking at family members playing on TV screen back during the Famicom (NES) days and that's fun on its own. So what do you think about livestream and its culture? A: I don't think too much about it. If people having fun watching at it from entertainment perspective then there's no right or wrong in it, and if they're really not comfortable with it then they could just not stream it and that would be it. However it does feel irritating when you were told "yeah I have seen everything I don't feel like playing it anymore" but having a reaction looking at your favorite streamers playing it does indeed feel emotional, or getting excited over looking at streamers defeating enemies so hard that you know you'll never touch it, it does give the PR of how this game can make people laugh, cry or cheer, and that experience itself is invaluable. I also watch players streaming, so it's something I appreciate.
- YoshiP also commented on people who loves backseating in stream comments. Which he does comment on hoping this can stop and let the streamers play the game in peace, even for games that he aren't involved. To quote, "Oh god enough of those instructions and just let them play for fun!". He does understand why people do so though.
Q: This might be a weird question to ask but since you have put so much energy and effort into creating this game, but when it comes to management, how do you translate that into profits and sales? In terms of timing and your target audience and so on. (Since the answer to this is very important, a separate thread will be created for this)
That's about it. But as mentioned just above, there was a question regarding how he'd project and predict on the sales of the game. Since this is important, a separate thread will be created so that people can take note of that.

2023.06.01 07:47 dandylion1313 28 [T4M] #Auburn, Massachusetts - Trans man dating separately from partner
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to read (: If any of this interests you, be sure to send a message!
Disclaimer: please do not interact in any way, shape, or form if you are a straight man. To start with:
- I’m disabled! Not physically, though it does keep me rather housebound. I’ve been trying to get out more lately but meeting IRL will take me a long time.
- I don’t drive & don’t plan to
- I'm a trans guy and my voice doesn't "pass." I plan to start taking T soon-ish to change that
- I view sex as an important part of my romantic relationships, so I won't be interested in anyone on the aspec; though I would consider myself demisexual as it takes me a while to warm up to anyone sexually
- Flirting with me right off the bat, or even within about a month of meeting will result in a block. I need to know you before I can be that comfortable.
- I am childfree, catfree, & not open to debate.
- I don’t drink or smoke & would prefer if you do not either as intoxication makes me extremely nervous & uncomfortable
- I dislike unpredictability & spontaneity. If you’re the type to do things without planning ahead of time, we won’t be compatible, sorry
Regarding my status a "polyamorous" & "in an open relationship": I have a long term girlfriend. She is wonderful. She is, however, asexual & while I'm definitely someone who takes a while to warm up to people in that way, I am most certainly allosexual. So, we've come to the realization that we're just never going to be compatible in the bedroom. We've processed this, had our conversations about it, & now I'm in the market for another partner! When it comes to our poly style, we would be most comfortable with someone who doesn't mind hearing about the other person (IE: you wouldn't mind me talking about her sometimes, & you also don't mind me sharing stuff about our relationship with her.) Meeting in the future isn't as important as just having an open conversation boundary.
With all that out of the way, here are some lighter things about me! My name’s Andrew! I'm a professional erotica author so writing is basically all I do if I'm not procrastinating with Netflix or games. I love gaming, usually in the survival/city sim genre. I've been obsessed with FFXIV lately, so definitely hit me up if you play! I love learning about new things & exhaustive conversations. I spend a lot of time analyzing media, especially queer theory & history. I watch some anime & am highly engaged in fandom culture on Twitter.
People say I’m smart, I have a hard time accepting compliments so I’ll leave it at that. I am open minded & caring, though. It takes me a while to warm up to people in general, however. I'm a solution based person, always looking for ways to help & make other's lives easier, especially those I care about. I’d consider my love languages to be quality time spent together, acts of service, & eventually, physical touch.
If you're into this sort of thing: I'm a February Pisces with a lot of Capricorn in my astrology chart. My Myers-Briggs thing is INTJ-T.
I'm looking for someone (over 27) to start things off slow with, a friendship that can turn into something more eventually. Primarily I am looking for a long term relationship. I want someone dominant. I like decision makers, people who have strong opinions, are passionate about things & can articulate them well. Physical touch in a relationship is important to me & I’m into several fetishes & lifestyle kinks, such as con-noncon & ageplay.
Other than that, to start off with, I'm looking for someone who's around to spend a bit of time with daily, on Discord calls preferably. Relocation is eventually in the cards if need be. I’m potentially all in if the right person comes along (:

2023.05.30 11:13 Suliftin Alternate Races' Names
As a FFXIV player I like the idea that the typical fantasy races aren't really the same, for example elezens are basically elves or hyurs are humans. So my question to you, if an RPG came out with the basic races with different names like instead of dwarves they're called like Kronos or something. Would that deter you from the game or would you be more interested to see why they're named differently? Also do you care if these races don't act like the Tolkien races where elves are mystical archers and dwarves are drunkards? Like what if elves were creepy or dwarves were sophisticated etc...

2023.05.29 19:51 CivilizedPsycho [Spoiler: FFXIV] A comprehensive list of all Final Fantasy IV references in Endwalker, from 6.0 to 6.4!
Final Fantasy IV is my favorite game of all time, so when they announced some things in this expansion would be based on FFIV, I was starstruck. As I played through Endwalker, I tried to take note of any reference I could find. If I missed any, please let me know!
General: - Lunar Whale Mount (Digital FanFest/Mogstation), which plays re-orchestrated version of the Lunar Whale theme from the game.
- Rosa, Rydia, Edge minions (Digital FanFest/Mogstation)
- Palom Minion (Pre-order Bonus)
- Porom Minion (Collector's Edition Bonus)
- Palom and Porom have an interaction based on the hallway scene from FFIV
- The promotional Warrior of Light, who was a Dark Knight in Shadowbringers, has changed into a Paladin, just like Cecil Harvey.
- The Endwalker poster shows the promotional Warrior of Light in the same exact pose as Amano's Cecil artwork.
Tower of Zot: - This dungeon shares its name with Golbez's base of operations.
- Likewise, the dungeon music is a new version of the tower's theme in the game.
- The large mob, "Armored Fiend", is based on a monster with the same name in FFIV's Lunar Subterrane.
- The bosses "Minduruva," "Cinduruva," and "Sanduruva," also known as "The Magus Sisters," first appeared in FFIV's Tower of Zot, and their designs in FFXIV are heavily based on the original Amano artwork for FFIV's version. Their original names are "Mindy," "Cindy," and "Sandy."
- The animations when each sister casts spells are the same as in FFIV - a green burst for black magic, and a ring of white cubes for white magic.
- Turn up your sound effects! They also use the OG sounds!
- The fight uses similar mechanics to the FFIV fight - Cinduruva will revive Minduruva and Sanduruva if they are defeated first, they utilize reflect, and when all three are alive, will use Delta Attack.
Garlemald:
- "The Eblan Rime" area is named for the Kingdom of Eblan, Edward "Edge" Geraldine's home.
- The Level 90 S-Rank Mark "Armstrong" is the recolored version of the previously mentioned "Armored Fiend", specifically named for the FFIV: The After Years enemy.
Tower of Babil: - This dungeon shares its name with the tower in FFIV, and similarly shares a strong connection to the moon.
- The first boss, Barnabas, and the NPC with him, Dr. Lugae, are bosses within FFIV's Tower of Babil.
- Barnabas mistakenly attacks the Doctor before attacking the party.
- The second boss, Lugae, is the robotic/fiend version that shows up after defeating the Doctor.
- During the Lugae fight, Mini and Toad transformations are required - two of the three transformations prevalent in FFIV (I wish they would have included Piggy)
Mare Lamentorum: - The Watcher seems to be based on Fusoya, who is known as "The Watcher of the Lunar Sleep". Both live on the Moon and wear long starry robes.
- The giant face on the moon where the entrance to Smileton is a reference to the stone face on the moon in the original game. In the GBA/PSP versions, it is the entrance to the Lunar Ruins. In the 3D version, it is where you fight Proto-Babil.
- The Level 90 A-Rank Elite Mark "Mousse Princess" is based on "Flan Princess", which first appeared as a rare enemy in FFIV's Lunar Subterrane.
- The mob "Mousse" is based on the "White Mousse" enemies on the moon in FFIV: The After Years
- The mob "Dynamite" may be based on the "Balloon"/"Dark Grenade" monsters on the Moon in FFIV.
Bestways Burrow: - Loporrits are based on Hummingways, the race of rabbits that live on the moon.
- In the 2D versions of FFIV, the character Namingway's role was to rename player characters. Because voice acting was added in the 3D version, he could no longer fulfill this role, and took on several other names throughout the game. Most of these names are taken by Loporrits: Mappingway, Livingway, Recordingway, Campingway, Puddingway, Mopingway
- Another, Going-my-Way, is involved in a Bestways Burrow sidequest.
- The landmark "Lovingway's Darlings" is also a Namingway alias.
- Later, in Old Sharlayan, two more of these names are used: Cheatingway and Jammingway.
- IF ANYONE FINDS HUMMINGWAY, or WEDDINGWAY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
- In FFIV, most Hummingways can't talk and instead hum a tune. The sound heard when talking to many Loporrits is that same tune. You can do the hum during the MSQ too!
- The Final Fantasy victory theme that plays when meeting Loporrits seems most similar to FFIV's instrumentation.
- The area music is the FFIV Town Theme (Welcome to Our Town)
- The battle music in the area is the FFIV main battle theme.
Labyrinthos: - The Lalafell engineer Kokkol is named for the blacksmith Kokkol.
- The "Kokkol's Forge" landmark is named for the location in FFIV's Underworld.
Ultima Thule: - The Dragons near the first Aethryte appear to be Mist Dragons, the summon used by Rydia's Mother (and previous boss in XIV in the dungeon "The Burn")
- FFIV is full of characters sacrificing themselves to help move Cecil and his party forward - the Scions sacrifice themselves throughout this zone to move the WoL forward.
The Final Day (Trial): - The trial's arena is a flight through space, very similar to the Zemus/Zeromus fight. Some attack sound effects are also similar.
- Halfway through the fight, the party seems defeated, and the prayers of friends saves the team and pushes them to fight the final phase. This happens during the final fight of FFIV as well.
- Meteion may be based on Maenad from FFIV: The After Years.
- Both are part of a hivemind of identical young girls
- Both are sent to other worlds by their creators
- Both struggle to understand humanity and appear throughout the world leaving destruction in their wakes (the big difference is that one struggles to feel, and the other feels too much).
- One last survivor of their kind is left and they return to the world with a new outlook and a new lease on life (Meteion as the bluebird and the young Maenad "Cuore", who is taken in by Rydia and Edge).
The Stigma Dreamscape: - The constant references to "4" may be a reference?
Other:
- "Moonward" gear (Level 90 tomestone gear) is based on FFIV characters.
- Fending is based on Cecil
- Scouting is based on Edge
- Aiming is based on Edward
- Casting is based on Rydia
- Since someone points this out every time - Healing is technically Rosa's color scheme, but it's still Rydia's outfit, and Maiming may be Dark Knight Cecil's or Kain's color scheme, but still Paladin's outfit. All of the sets are based on the four characters above, but only the four above are the correct color schemes for those characters.
POST 6.0: Patch 6.1: - The "Knight in Black" scene is preceded by a bump that says "Meanwhile, elsewhere..." which is text used in FFIV whenever the game shows events not involving the party, usually Golbez.
- The Knight in Black is revealed to be Golbez in 6.2. His armor matches Amano's original art and "Somewhere In The World" plays throughout the scene. Golbez is also referred to as "Man in Black" in the game.
- He speaks with four unseen characters, referred to as "Throne of Earth/Fire/Wind/Water" - which are presumably the four Elemental Fiends, Scarmiglione, Rubicante, Barbariccia, and Cagnazzo.
- The "Throne of Earth" character speaks like Scarmiglione, with elongated S's.
Patch 6.2: The Fell Court of Troia (Dungeon) - Troia is the matriarchal kingdom in FFIV, inhabited mostly by women, that practices fairly strict neutrality/pacifism.
- The music that plays is a much slower, sadder version of the town's theme.
- The arena for the second boss fight is a throne room. It has eight fire cauldrons, and the ceiling has eight points - possibly referencing the 8 Epopts of Troia (the matriarchal rulers).
- The arena for the final boss is "The Garden of the Epopts"
- Scarmiglione is the final boss, with an appearance much closer to Amano's original artwork.
- He starts the fight by back-stabbing something. In FFIV, his second fight is a back-attack.
- He summons a horde of zombies. In FFIV, his first fight is with a horde of zombies.
- The FFIV Boss Battle theme, "Battle 2", has been re-orchestrated and plays throughout the fight.
- The FFIV battle transition sound effect in the trailer is taken directly from the original game.
- Golbez has officially been named! Scarmiglione refers to himself as one of Golbez's "Circle of Four"
The Fell Court of Troia (Area) - When Y'shtola gives the Dark-Robed Voidsent her name "Zero", the music that plays is a re-orchestrated and expanded "Sorrow and Loss" - the song that played during all sad scenes in FFIV. It is also known as Cry in Sorrow and Theme of Sorrow. It is a sad version of the Main Overworld Theme. (Will Zero be Zeromus?!)
- Scarmiglione returns for a second fight in a solo instance. In FFIV, you fight him twice.
- His call to his minions to: "Come, feassst upon their flesh!" is a reference to his line in the game: "My undead children hunger to feassst upon your flesh! "
- His line "You will tremble before my true ssstrength!" is a reference to his line in the game: "Impressssive...But my true ssstrength lies in death! And now, you shall join me in it! "
Zero's Domain: - Sorrow and Loss continues to play as the area theme.
- Common monster-types from FFIV appear in this area, including Mindflayer and Flan.
- Ciriatto is terrified of Barbariccia, the Archfiend of Wind. This is the first reference to her.
- Not specifically FFIV, but worth noting: Calcabrina, Scarmiglione, Cagnazzo, Barbariccia, Rubicante, Ciriatto, and Farfarello are all from Dante's Inferno. Farfarello is an enemy in FFV.
- Barbariccia appears. Her body is more covered than previous depictions.
- Some believe that Zero's Domain is based on the town of Baron, with Zero's house being where Rosa's house would be. I don't personally see it, but I'm putting this here just in case.
Nisroch/Storm's Crown: - The theme in this area/trial is "Battle with the Four Fiends", which in FFIV plays when battling any of titular fiends. It is also known as "The Dreadful Fight."
- Barbariccia is the boss fight, and uses haiwind themed attacks. The tornadoes she summons are similar to her tornado attack in FFIV.
- Estinien's line before the fight "You're not the only one who can ride the wind!" is a line spoken by Kain to Barbariccia just before her boss fight in the 3D remake as well as Dissidia. The line was originally "Think you're the only one who can fight in the air?" in the SNES version and later versions of the game replaced it with "Let's see about that."
Patch 6.3 Lapis Manalis: - The first "Dated Records" references the "Geraldines" as a thorn in the writer's side. Edward "Edge" Geraldine is the Ninja from Eblan, as mentioned earlier.
- The note also mentions that the Geraldines are trying to take their supplies. Edge can use the Steal ability.
- Cagnazzo is the boss fight, with an appearance somewhat closer to Amano's art, although he stands upright instead of on all fours.
- His giant wave attack after the DPS check is similar to his primary attack in FFIV.
Mount Ordeals: - This is the location in FFIV where Cecil fights Scarmiglione, thenovercomes his darkness and becomes a Paladin.
- In the remakes, there are bonus trials here for other characters.
- Zero's decision on Mount Ordeals to fight with the WoL and his friends and no longer require payment may be her version of "overcoming her darkness."
- Rubicante is the trial boss, and just like the others his appearance is very close to his original Amano artwork
- Rubicante's dialogue suggests that he respects you as a warrior, a character trait he also had in the original game.
- His "inferno" ability is one of his attacks in the game.
- An alternate, lyrical version of "Battle with the Four Fiends" plays during this fight. This was written by Kenichi Maeyamada (aka Hyadain) and is based on his fan cover version from 15 years ago. The lyrics have been changed, but the instrumentation is identical.
Patch 6.4 The Aetherfont: - The final boss is Octomammoth - the third boss in FFIV (second if you don't count the Captain), fought after rescuing Rydia and meeting Tellah.
Another Moon: - "Another Moon" - A eerier version of the song of the same name that plays on the surface of the moon in FFIV.
- This moon's surface is red, a reference to the Red Moon of FFIV (the game has two moons.)
- During the flashback sequence, Durante mentions visiting "his majesty in Baron" - Baron is the kingdom in FFIV that Cecil (and Rosa/Kain/Cid) are from, and the events in Baron are the catalyst for most of the story.
- Durante's appearance might be referencing how Golbez looks without his armor from FFTAY.
- Azdaja is turned into Shadow Dragon - Golbez's companion in FFIV.
Voidcast Dais: - Golbez is the trial boss!
- "Voidcast Savior" - A remix of Battle with the Four Fiends, FFIV Main Theme, the Final Fantasy Prelude, and the Final Fantasy Prologue. (IT'S SO GOOD)
- The black sword he wields is a reference to the Ebony Blade - the weapon equipped by him in flashback scenes in The After Years (obtainable in the present by unequipping it in flashbacks.)
- Golbez's "Binding Cold" attack is what he uses to paralyze the party during their encounter with him in the Dwarven Castle.
- The attack "Black Fang" is an attack that Shadow Dragon uses in that same battle to kill off each party member one by one after Golbez uses Binding Cold.
- The elemental aspects of this fight as well as the poses Golbez takes are references to his role in Dissidia.
Post Trial: - Z E R O M U S HAS ARRIVED. He is the final boss and ultimate mastermind of the events of FFIV, shown here in his cloaked form. It seems we've skipped his Zemus form.
Post Quest: - The Golbez we fought is implied to be Durante in Golbez's armor, fighting in Golbez's honor. This supports the previous note that Durante's appearance may be based on the FFTAY Golbez's armor-less appearance.

2023.05.24 02:31 MediumWin8277 XIVLauncher Breaks Steam Button
Hello everyone,
I'm running XIVLauncher on Steam Deck. It used to work just fine in gaming mode, but now it's giving me problems. When I launch XIVLauncher in gaming mode, it says to use the Steam button to switch to Final Fantasy XIV. However, this doesn't work. The Steam Menu won't launch and it'll act like it's frozen, with the exception of hearing the music, SFX, and voices of the FFXIV intro.
Anybody else experiencing this?
Edit: Additional information, it works fine on Desktop mode, and also in Desktop mode for whatever reason it will save my password and let me auto login, but not in Gaming mode and I have no idea why.
Edit 2: I have to hold down the power button to get it to respond.

Does the relative absence of FFXIV streamers (relative to other MMOs) have anything to do with the fear of having their accounts punished for using third party tools such as ACT or Dalamud?

2023.05.21 12:41 0ddbuttons Potentially handy info for folks about to check out CR for [spoiler] as guest cast
With Critical Role’s first ep with Emily Axford going up on YouTube on Monday (around 2PM PDT), I thought it would be nice to give a bit of context for folks completely new to CR & solely watching it to see her.
Part of why I’m doing this is that a lot of you have mentioned you specifically don’t watch CR b/c the eps are long and thus are liable to skip straight to when Emily comes in (around 1:58:00 on the broadcast, so likely ~1:43:00 once the 15 min streaming countdown is removed).
IMO it would be worth watching at least the first few minutes of the ep (and all of it if you have time) to get some scene-setting: This is part of the campaign’s PC group Bells Hells, who’ve been split & flung across the world after a fight by a massive magical working on the same sort of leyline-affecting solstice which occurred in Brennan’s
EXU: Calamity series.
Note going forward: Emily will be around for a while, based on how long the other split group (featuring Aabria as a guest!) ran.
Emily will also play in a Zelda One-Shot airing May 30 at 7 p.m. PDT. No Twitch subscription is needed to watch CR’s 7PM PDT simulcast YouTube + Twitch Thursday evening show & Twitch Friday morning rebroadcasts. CR VODs are only available to Twitch subscribers once those end. Public videos go up on YouTube on Mondays at around 2PM PDT.
If time zones make you want to zone out, just check When Is Critical Role? Edit: I use old Reddit, which means I never see automatic expansions of links. If those are making this post unreadable, try

2023.05.20 02:26 -Yeoreum so like... when are they adding more ways to curate your venues/housing??
like literally anything, i've had 2 people walk into my cute themed bakery and harass me and the customers and spam weird inappropriate looking emotes while naked and wouldn't leave even when i told them and stuff.
at least let it be so that blacklisted people can't go into your housing or something.
one of them added me before they started acting weird and i didnt really see anything wrong with it and before i knew it they were just acting very terrible and i immediately regretted it because even when i unfriended them i know im still on their friends list because the ffxiv friends list system is ass.
and no, im not gonna settle for ppl trying to victim blame here, because we need ways to prevent this stuff from happening and people going "just dont add people" doesnt stop people from harassing you anyways.
i reported it to a gm and hoping it does something but if it doesnt then they have me on their friends list and can easily see when my venue is open and come back and harass me and shit, which they said they would so im just here like... :)

2023.05.19 15:59 Styxius Unfortunate future of ESO
After U35 and the time that's come since. Including the eventually release of Necrom. With it's unfortunately lack luster class after 4 years. ESO's intent to reduce the content release per year I used to give the benefit of the doubt to them. However if you have ever job searched with ZOS it becomes clear that this is likely just an attempt to move more of their team to the other mmo they are developing (new IP not announced) that they are also hiring for.
I feel that ZOS at this stage has blundered the IP from Bethesda more than ever before. With the constant pendulum swinging balance changes highlighting the failures of the combat teams capabilities (nothing should be released in a state they feel a 41% nerf was needed..sorry sorcerers.)
ESO is a dev team living in a bubble. The loudest echo chamber imaginable. ZOS already released less content per year than FFXIV and WOW do yearly while still being a AAA company. They release content as if they're an indie studio. World first races are irrelevant and their codding is so shoddy that PTS is a requirement for them as they've pissed off their QA testers enough that they unionized. So it's not just the players the team doesn't listen to it's their own QA team..ZOS continues to damage the aspects of the game the players enjoy and try to act as if they care about it.
They gaslit and undermined the community with U35 and U36. Causing the loss of thousands if not tens of thousands of their already small player base by contrast to their competition. And it feels like they keep trying to one up their player loss from U35. I want to believe they can pull it back but I don't think they care enough at this point. When forums is no longer a safe area to provide critical feedback as they just close out the forums constantly communication in honesty needs to improve even if it's just a "we don't know what we are doing" style.
I hope they can steer the course and focus on player wants..for example the heavy attack community has seen mass neglect and I miss the old old stamdk days where weaving HA between dots was actually a viable endgame rotation. It changes so often and players deserve to be treated better.

https://www.cbr.com/elder-scrolls-mistakes/ 8 dungeons came with the release of dragonflight 3 raid series came out with Shadowlands (more than eso released in the same timeframe) FFXIV has released 12 starting next week since January of last year. With ~12 dungeons, a new deep dungeon and has had two+ classes with every expansion.

2023.05.19 07:49 dandylion1313 28 [T4R] #Auburn, Massachusetts (Or anywhere!) - Trans man, bi, demi, poly. Looking for someone to "fill the gap"
I am open minded, caring & very generous, though.

2023.05.16 16:48 Kokomaru Is there a class that plays like a Red Mage?
There are 40 classes in Maplestory and was wondering if any of them play like a Red Mage in FFXIV.
Red Mages have to manage two gauges, black magic and white magic. Their magic abilities increase either of these gauges and they have to try to keep the gauges balanced as they attack. When both gauges are full, they can spend their gauges on Red Magic which is a powerful melee attack that acts as their primary way of dishing out damage.
Is there anything like that?

2023.05.15 16:03 ValNotFound [Chaos][Static][ENG][LFM]Long-term Savage and Ultimate Static recruiting for 6.4 Savage and further.
Long-term Savage and Ultimate Static recruiting for 6.4 Savage and further. (7/8)
Current roster: WAR, DRK, SCH/SGE, AST/WHM, MNK/NIN, SAM, DNC.
Looking for: 1 Caster (RDM/SMN/BLM).
(Being flexible inside your respective role is encouraged.)
We're a group of good friends, who are at the moment looking for one more person to tackle the upcoming savage tier.
Four of us took our first steps into Savage content during the latter half of Shadowbringers and have cleared three tiers, UCoB, UWU, the first phase of TEA and DSR up to phase 6 together since then. Because we were recently forced to some roster changes, we're now hoping for one like-minded person, who are interested in joining our long-term group and tackle not just the 6.4 savage tier, but also ultimates and further, upcoming content.
It is important to emphasize that we are not just looking for people to raid with a few times per week, but also want to actively get to know each other with the goal of becoming friends over time. If you are just here to slap bosses, this is not the right place for you. While some of us are introverts, we still enjoy hanging out, chatting, and more casual content like treasure maps or occasionally playing other games together.
At this time we're excited for the 6.4 Savage tier and will focus on that until it's cleared! When we've cleared the Savage tier we want to go back and continue DSR. We can’t tell how long this endeavour will take us exactly, but it should be fine as long as we are all on the same page, make constant visible progress, keep communicating and improve our performance along the way. After DSR is cleared we're looking to continue onto TOP. During downtime we can decide together, what to aim for. Progressing and clearing TEA when there is time for it is high on the list. We’d also be up to re-progress UCoB and/or UWU at some point and are open for other group content like Blue Mage Raiding for example.
While clearing content, optimizing and pushing our performance is very important to us, we don’t just care for results, but also about doing it together as a team, because nothing feels better than working towards something as a group, overcoming obstacles and achieving common goals with friends!
Also… We don’t care for your past or current WoW Mythic raiding progress.
Raidtimes
We're currently raiding on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, from 17:00 to 20:00 Server Time. We don’t want to reschedule those days on a weekly basis! Being on time and prepared is very important to us and while we know that life sometimes throws unexpected things our way and don’t want anyone to feel bad in such a case, we still want to make sure, that everyone is aware, that seven other people rely on you and their time should be respected accordingly.
What’s asked of you?
🔹 You are 25+ years old.
🔹 You are looking for a long-term static with people you want to become friends and actively engage with in- and outside of FFXIV.
🔹 You're willing to do proper research on your role, keep up with your BiS list and other available resources, look into fights and mechanics and steadily work on your own performance as you see fit. You should hold yourself accountable for those things, because you want to and have fun doing so, we have no interest in persuading or encouraging someone to do those things on a regular basis. We trust you to continuously work towards becoming an expert of your role and to speak up, if there’s anything the team can do to help you to optimize your performance.
🔹 You don't use any combat related third party addons outside of basic ACT functionality. We want to play on patchdays as reliably as on any other day and are also not willing to speed up prog with automated callouts, automarkers and similar shenanigans.
🔹 You don’t mind wipes, bring a lot of patience with yourself and others and behave in a mature, friendly and respectful manner without acting in a patronizing way. Don’t be a smarty-pants lecturing others, nobody appreciates that sort of behaviour. You understand, that practice and effort is needed to create consistency. People, who feel like they have to put the performance of others (yes, even randoms!) down to appear more capable themselves, probably should rethink their general attitude and while banter can have its place, it can also very quickly overstay its welcome. Everyone should try to own up to their mistakes, because we all make them and it’s not a big deal.
🔹 You are fully aware what huge time commitment Ultimate raids actually are and realize that those fights take with a schedule like ours months regardless of player skill and that it's pretty common to be stuck on more complicated mechanics for quite a few weeks, especially if they're further into the fight. While we aim for high consistency, there will always be the occasional days with weird wipes to early mechanics.
🔹 Communication is not always easy, but it is key. We don’t just value in fight coordination and communication, but also require active participation in matters like finding the right strategies for our group, planning out mitigation and maintaining an appropriate atmosphere. The static’s business is everyone’s concern and every member should have an opinion and be able to voice it accordingly.1
🔹 You are an actual team player and interested in the success and performance of the group as a whole. While the primary emphasize should be on focusing on and taking responsibility for your own performance, it is also important to actively enable and support each other, learn and improve together and generate lasting memories we can all look back on fondly.
🔹 You're able to find the balance between approaching content seriously with proper preparation and a focused mindset, while still having fun and enjoying our time together.
If this resonates with you, reach out to us and introduce yourself (with something more than a Hi and your logs) so we can get to know each other better! Write me here on reddit or at Val#4000 on Discord.

2023.05.13 17:51 Karyn_From_HR Man Mentors are the worst aren't they
| Don't have much as far as images go, only decided to post after making a 1000 character report. Anyways, I hear people generally run into bad party members in expert roulette, but I haven't really experienced that, until now. Load in Lapis Manalis, RDM, (mentor) PLD, and SGE to go with my MNK. First pack goes fine enough, no stun from the tank on the griffon at any point, whatever missed a minor optimization who cares. Second pack, tank stays pretty low during it decided to focus target to know when to mantra. First boss, tank has to sprint to avoid the first trample, maybe inexperienced, mostly fine besides the thing that gave me validation to post this outside of generic YPYT. Covers me during Roar of Albion. 'course I don't actually get hit by it (unlike them), Six Sided Star and all that, but like... you should know that cover doesn't work on move that you also get hit by, so now I'm interested in this specimen. And then I get pissed off at them, because first pack after the boss, I get ahead and think "Wow I get to enjoy the game a little more than usual by tanking as dps for a bit," pop Arm's Length, Riddle of Earth, and use Bloodthirst when I start taking damage. With the slow applied and the minor dopamine spike I expected the aggro to take go to the tank, after all it's only like two buttons to take it back... right? Nah, just stood there and watched me die, well the RDM died first cause aggro got split but that's a mostly worthless distinction. At the time I thought the healer just couldn't keep up with both dps taking damage, thought she was why the tank was dropping so low anyhow, but no, turns out they were from the same FC and likely shared the YPYT mentality (something I mentioned in the report) While I was slowly getting ressed I dropped a message in chat only for my loathing to be reinforced : https://preview.redd.it/y9yfwota5jza1.png?width=291&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c1370defded10dcda0bdad59a4cc378a0128e90 Decided to just go through the rest of the dungeon without kicking the tanks cause my anxiety was telling me the party'd turn on me if I tried to. Second pull, noticed tank wasn't actually using any cds besides rampart which explained why they were on death's door every pack. Second boss, tank barely gets out of every aoe, uses rampart once. Otherwise nothing encounter. Last two pulls still nothing other than holy rampart. Cagnazzo time : pulled into a corner for Antediluvian unnecessarily, nothing of note (or cooldowns) until add phase, where my buddy Cover comes back. Targeting the SGE this time I am reminded of how little game knowledge is required to get the crown you get if you earnestly want to help people at the game. It's the stack marker, he covered a stack marker, outside of the stack marker. The fucking MENTOR thought COVER would add to the STACK MARKER, anyone who actually knows a thing or two (me) would tell you, that doesn't do shit, at least for the other two people in the stack who nearly died because the damage was being split 3 ways and not 4 like the dungeon expects from you. Oh yeah they also barely scrape by a falling rock from the Hydraulic Ram instead of just going to the rest of the party while it's still charging. Dungeon's over, no good loot from the last chest besides the scouting chestpiece I nabbed, gave the RDM a comm for being the only decent person there and started writing up a report. Being the anxious fool I am made it as detailed as I thought to so I don't get banned for false flagging or whatever my cringe brain tells me. Considered mentioning this encounter to my FC, still too antisocial to follow through, and then wrote up this post to share/vent... I hope they get barred from mentor and suspended but that's a pipe dream probably. Also I didn't have ACT on so I can't share any of that. It doesn't seem to want to record unless I open it up before FFXIV, which I keep forgetting about. Also also, wasted my time looking through their logs, garbage parsed on anything that isn't Summoner or Asphodelos (0 on Hydaelyn) Bonus support desk reply I got while writing this https://preview.redd.it/p0dv395d8jza1.png?width=569&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c9a414a5c590301b34d0a7764cc6711bccf069f submitted by Karyn_From_HR to TalesFromDF [link] [comments] |
