2023.06.08 09:37 Doiley101 About the formula slots

I have 3 opened and I had bought one formula and was presently crafting those but still had about 70 unused. So I buy another formula and I try to put it in the other open slot. I choose the slot and click on the formula to use it but the new formula disappears. So I lost the new formula. I recall reading that something about remaining formula being cancelled but what happened here was the new formula disappeared and when I check the crafting option that high elixir formula remains locked. It does not appear in the second slot as a craftable option.
Is it not possible to use two different slots to craft two different formulas. Can you only craft one of those numbered formula sheet recipes. Is that what occurred?
I must have screwed up but I don't understand what happened. I'd like to know so that I don't make a mistake again.

2023.06.08 09:35 Harbinger85 Album Review: X-Raided - A Prayer in Hell

A Prayer in Hell: X-Raided’s highly-anticipated Strange Music debut is an incredible, haunting masterpiece
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
It was once said, no tree can grow tall enough to reach heaven, unless its roots are deep enough to reach Hell.”
X-Raided has been an underground king for over 30 years, releasing classics like Psycho Active, Xorcist, Unforgiven Vol 1, and Nefarious, the majority of which were recorded during his well-documented incarceration. After nearly a quarter of a century behind bars, X’s prayer was finally granted and he was released early on parole in 2018 and went straight to work, dropping There is a Storm (2018) and California Dreamin’ (2020). In May of 2022 it was announced X had signed to Strange Music, the home of legendary rapper Tech N9ne, setting fan anticipation and expectations at all-time highs.
From the moment the ominous lines of the intro begins, X grabs you and pulls you into the surreal, hellish landscape that serves as the setting for the album. “A Prayer in Hell” is a dark, fantastical refrain that showcases X’s incredible lyricism and unrelenting delivery as he describes his nefarious origin story. “He only behaves when ensnared in his cell, beware the evil he’s prepared to unveil, if he’s ever released from the place where he’s held, no escape, there’s not even a prayer in hell”.
On “Return of the Living Dead”, X likens himself to a “demonic angel” and tells how he lost himself and ultimately “became a dragonslayer in hell”. Next, X writes some “Life Sentences”, an introspective track that paints a despairing portrait of prison and street life over an atmospheric beat “Hard to change from demon to angel, when you spent the majority of your life learnin’ to scheme and finagle, when its glorified”. On “To Whom it May Concern”, X tells of the self-destructive and suicidal feelings that torment him as a result of his life of sin.
Here the album switches gears and begins a string of features with some legendary rappers. X stole the show with his feature on “Still Right Here” from Tech N9ne’s album, so Neena arrives to return the favor on the pulsating single “Stratus Fear”. Here the two rappers have some fun exchanging a string of tongue-twisting and mind-bending verses. Next, Ras Kass and X take on “Any Challenger”, a boastful, energetic banger. ”James Taylor, Carole King” is the mantra on the infectious “Legendary”, where X is joined by labelmate King Iso who delivers another signature highlight verse. Playboi Prada and Bleezy add some mayhem on “Knoccin’”, a street anthem with a beat that could have been produced by Michael Myers himself.
The second half of the album starts with “No1 is Safe”, another slammin’ single that X obliterates with his implaccable flow. The beat for “Celebration” is so laid back it could feel right at home on a Wiz Khalifa or Berner album. A-Wax adds a nice verse and hook to this smooth track. X-Raided takes it back to the 70’s with “Blaxploitation” a funky track where X puts himself in the starring role as a Shaft-like character.
“Villains in the Streets” is another standout anthem with a strong feature from Yowda. The album reaches its zenith with “Parasitic”, where X describes the dangers of gang mentality over an absolute banger of a beat. "I got you participating in genocide and you did it with pride.”
“That was then, this is now” the rapper declares as we transition to “The Bridge”, an old-school summer-time jam that has X reflecting over his childhood days. Joey Cool delivers an inspired guest verse. On “Ka-el” X dons the red cape and describes how he discovered his own powers: “It wasnt until I came down to earth that I realized, I was gifted, everything changed, my perspective shifted.”
“This is not a song, this is a poem” X states on “Many Apologies”, the final track of the album . “Seconds, minutes, hours, days” he repeats on the hook, reflective of the album cover that shows X sitting in a room with several clocks on the walls, an analogy for the despair he felt at never knowing when or if he would ever be released from prison.
A Prayer in Hell is an exceptional piece of art that is not only X-Raided’s best album yet, but one of the best albums of the year. The production is diverse and top notch, creating a chilling atmosphere that mirrors the intense storytelling and introspection found within each track. Moreover, the album's guest features are carefully curated and perfectly complement X-Raided's style. Each collaboration brings a unique dynamic, adding depth and variety to the overall sound. It's evident that X-Raided has surrounded himself with artists who share his passion and dedication to the craft, resulting in a cohesive and powerful musical experience. If you’re a fan of raw and authentic hip-hop, then this Prayer is a must listen.

2023.06.08 09:35 Emmett203 What do you guys think about Sapphire Crystal as starting item?

I have been building Sapphire on Viktor and so far I really enjoy it. I think its a lot better than the other starter items, firstly because it allows you to poke a lot more because of the extra mana you get, secondly you can rush Lost Chapter very quickly, if you have futures market even faster.
Also you get a lot more sustain because you can just buy 2 refillables and every time you back you have 2 free pots. You also don't have to sell your starter item because it builds to the most important item for mages.
There is one drawback though, your damage drops a bit but I don't think its that big of a deal.
I was wondering if any of you guys use Sapphire as starting item or is it just me, I have been combining Sapphire with futures market and I get a huge power spike in 5 minutes or so.

2023.06.08 09:33 DMsquatch Games freezing/stuttering on new quest 2

New to the quest 2 I bought a few games and had to return most of them because they're completely unplayable. Currently im trying to play no mans sky vr and the problems are as worse as theyve ever been but the other games i've tried are, Half lyfe alex, Ghost of tabor, Some warhammer vr games and they all suffer from this problem while. Hotdogs, horseshoes and handgrenades, Vr chat, and beatsaber are all perfectly fine. Any particular reason why every 10-30 seconds I get this horrible screen freeze and lag/rubberbanding? My computer while not totally top of the line is beefy enough and is vr ready
NVIDIA 3080 TI 32 GB of ram
I dont know my mobo or processor off hand but i've never had problems with games until vr was introduced. I've gone into debug mode and set my console view to forward and I notice when the stuttefreezing happens I get something along the lines of " ERROR!: could not retreive round 2 framing quest 2" or something to that effect. Im connected to my computer with a cable in a usb3.0 slot and nothing i've done has made this stop.
Changing bitrate/encoding in debug mode Updating drivers Reinstalling occulus pc AS well i've reduced the graphical settings and its only seemed to make things worse nothing, is this just a super common thing with vr when you're trying to play games on steam?

2023.06.08 09:30 Ebony_Dream [ Will Contain Spoilers ] My Thoughts after almost 100 hours into the game. [ Long Post ]

Firstly I will state in advance I haven't completed the main story completely. I have gotten all the memories to get the Master Sword and three of the Dungeons. I have seen a bit more when my friend was streaming it as well. This is simply going to be my thoughts and opinions on the game as I've seen and experienced it so far as someone who loved BotW and Zelda as a Whole. This'll be quite lengthy as I went into a bit more detail then I initially planned as well as not being great at initially condensing my thoughts at times. There's a TLDR at the end with everything simplified with less details for those who want to skip what basically became a bullet point essay.
Firstly I will start with the positives.
That's the main positives of things I just enjoyed about the game on its own as they are in the game. Now I want to talk about some things that I liked conceptually but not quite as much with how they were implemented into the game.
Now onto the things I just straight up don't like and/or don't get within Tears of the Kingdom. If you've read up to this point then I really appreciate you taking the time to read everything.
Well I believe that is more or less everything and if you've read all the way to this point then just thanks, really. I appreciate it if you read this all cause I know this was a lot but I had a lot of thoughts. At the end of the day I still enjoy the game for what it is and still plan to complete it and a lot of it's extras side stuff. That being said doesn't mean I can't have critique or simply not care for certain aspects. For me there's a lot of potential in this game that I feel was missed out on among other things.
[TL:DR]
Things I really liked or loved were The return of Varied Dungeons and Bosses. I felt this was much needed in breath of the wild and I'm glad TotK have them. All the little caves you can find and explore and the wells to an extent as well. They made the world feel more interesting. I absolutely adored the Depths and the challenge it brings. I loved the return of more enemies bringing in more enemy variety. Being able to use my horses from BotW and the changes to Bullet Time.
Stuff I liked the concept of but didn't care for the exception of was Ganondorf as I feel like he was a bit weak characterization wise with missed opportunities. Gloom is awesome in gameplay and coming across it but how it's handled in the story was weak and should have just been an extension of Malice explicitly. Sky Islands the lands of missed opportunity as well as not being that interesting to explore. How Zelda and the Past was handled just feels underdeveloped, especially Zelda's role in most of it. The return of Poes is just a disappointing pick up with no interesting enemy attached like in the past. The sage abilities are cool in concept and it's kinda nice having pseudo companions but activating the abilities is annoying and discourages me from using them at times. The fuse ability taking away cool items and making elemental arrows more tedious to use also disrupting the flow of gameplay.
Parts of the game I just didn't really like at all like the lack of any continuity in either story or sheikah tech with all the sheikah tech basically vanishing without a trace or explanation to the limited or lack of mention of previous events. The cumbersome material system when going thru it for arrows or weapons on the fly. Having to spam A to pick up Rupees and Poes where in BotW you just ran over Rupees to pick them up. The Secret Stones being called Secret Stones. The Story as a whole is just lacking in my opinion and not as good as BotW in execution. Just not a fan of the Zonai as a whole. Also lastly Zelda stole my house and I want it back.

2023.06.08 09:26 Helpful-Lunch-7121 AITA for driving through a roped off exit?

Would love opinions on this. I am a pizza delivery driver. Today the store was busy and I was on a run of three orders. My first order was to an apartment complex that is a maze. It is extremely confusing to navigate through. To make it worse most places to drive through were blocked of with ropes. Apparently they were redoing pavement. However, it was no longer wet or freshly done.
I drop my order off and try to leave. Problem is, every time I try to turn on to another part of the complex to leave it is roped off. I spend 10 minutes driving around in circles and finally find the exit. However, it is roped off too. When I say rope it’s more like very thin string. I have two other orders in the car and at this point I have lost my patience due to already having a stressful day so I drive through it. Wasn’t proud if it but I didn’t know what else to do. Also, other roped off spots around the complex had clearly been driven through too by other people. From what I could tell the only way I could have gotten out would have been to drive all the way back around to the entrance and exiting the entrance did not seem safe to me.
I get back to my store and apparently some lady called my manager and is pissed I drove through the roped off exit. He said she was very upset. (She knew where I worked because I had the delivery topper on my car with the store name on it.) My manager didn’t seem too bothered by it though and agreed that complex is a mess even without the roped off areas. However I’m worried he might tell my higher up boss about it when he comes in and I maybe get in trouble or written up or worse. I didn’t give it a second thought until I got back to the store and learned someone called to tell on me which made me question if that was the wrong move. What should I have done instead then. AITA for driving through the roped off exit?

2023.06.08 09:22 Latter_Fun7364 LOST OF HOPE

Throughout the years, a bad relationship with food has been a constant in my life (20,F) . There were times I lost too much weight but now I can't stop eating at night and binging.
It started in January and since then it happens almost on a daily basis. It was also when I started dating a narcisist (23,M) just until last month. He cheated on me and básicamente destroyed my self esteem, worsened my eating disorder and my depression.
I try to be positive but it gets harder and harder and I can't see an end for this torture. Today I weighed 52,5kg at 160cm which means overall I have gained almost 5kg. Clothes don't feel and I feel like the most ugly and fat person in the world.
I am seeing my therapist on Monday for the second time and I will confess him and talk about this about as much as possible. Today is my third day in Prozac and it makes me feel tired and my binges are worst. I'll try to feel hopeful and wait for best things to happen.
I am starting to write in here to say if opening up is going to be helpful. So, please if any of you can comment on this, it will help me feel less oonely by hearing your similar experiences or any helpful times.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all get better. This too shall pass. ❤

2023.06.08 09:22 Kaala-001 How an introvert person moves get over an break up.(25M and 24F)

I fell in love with this girl (the old typical teen love story). then 1 year passed... We had a break up.. After 4 month a patch up again after 1 year 4 days breakup.. Reason? Might be I was too busy with my studies to get a good admission might be i was not able to understand her as she wanted but I dont know the real reason.. I got the admission but I lost her... Why cant I just forget her..? She cheated on me second time.... But I could not tell myself she cheated on me... My mind says:- she cheated on you My heart says:- she is also a human might be there was some mistake. ... It has been 6 years 4 months..... I observed that in this long time I have changed a lot! changed myself from semi introvert to a ful introvert person, the person who used to get scolding for laughing the whole day smiles rearly... In my mind there is a huge disbelief formed on everyone including myself... How many days a person can wear this fake happy musk to hide the tears. I asked myself do I want her? If she is happy I dont want but it give a pain, a like u know u are going to die and u have accepted the fate.... First time saying this too openly, may be I shouldn't have written this!!!

2023.06.08 09:19 Hamza78ch11 [TOTK] Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere and The Legend of Zelda

There will be major spoilers for both the Cosmere and TOTK if you haven't played all the way through yet.
I don't know if anyone has brought it up yet but one of the hallmark's of the Zelda series happens to be how technology is gained and lost over and over again. This loop results in our intrepid hero always finding either ancient technology that is very similar to modern tech or tech that has only recently been discovered to help him on his way.
This could be SS Link discovering the Lanayru robots, TP Link with the spinner, PH Link with steamboats, ST link with trains and obviously BOTW and TOTK Link with both ancient Sheikha/Zonai tech or Purah with her new inventions from those things. There is this constant cycle of invention and reinvention for a society that seems to be in a relatively Standard Medieval Fantasy Setting.
I am a big fan of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere, and if you haven't read it already, in one series there is essentially a planet that has ten heroes whose job is to protect it from an evil god who gets ornery every so often. The heroes are literally trapped in hell with him and his undying minions experiencing constant torture. This is actually part of a contract that they took on which is that if even one of them breaks then the evil god and his minions are let loose from hell and allowed to invade the main setting, Roshar, to attempt to take over bringing the actual apocalypse with them. However, as a balance the heroes are also sent to Roshar and are allowed to teach everyone how to (waaay oversimplifying this next point) use the powers of the good god (who is dead) if they have the aptitude for it. Whenever the evil gods forces are defeated he is sent right back to hell and the heroes are too.
Many thousands of years before the current happenings in the books the apocalypses started to happen closer and closer together as the immortal heroes started to break more easily under the weight of milennia of torture. At the very end the apocalypses were coming ten years apart and during each one society was given less and less time to rebuild. At the end of the penultimate one society was driven deep into the stone age.
And that's why I love this story concept in the new Zelda games of how, this one massive olive-skinned ginger prick keeps causing cataclysm after cataclysm and destroys society over and over again so people have to rebuild fresh every so often. That's why different techs are present and some things remain the same. Riding horses hasn't really changed in 10,000 years. Horses is horses. But bombs might go from simple black powder bombs (classic Zelda bombs) which themselves are artificial versions of the ones found in nature to shaped plasma charges generated on demand by an augmented reality interface of a super-iPad. Different post-calamity societies are going to follow vastly different tech trees based on their needs and what's available to them.
One society was based on Space Aztecs and was probably functionally modern, more like a Mesoamerican Wakanda than any medieval society and another immediately after calamity and with the entire world drowned became very very good at boats.
People will adapt. The human spirit is incredibly resilient. And these people will continue to live and create even after an apocalypse destroyed everything around them.

[Part 6](https://www.reddit.com/HFY/comments/13xe87q/first_contacts_part_6/)
“Welcome to the Endeavour 2.”
Nathan had already chosen to name the frigate after his experimental warp ship, I wondered if that meant he intended to keep hold of it but the limited number of Doradul crew was my largest concern.
“Only 20 Orvangians?”
Nathan’s smile dropped away and he rose from his seat, “I am sorry Jin, the Axarli shot and killed several on the planet’s surface, these were the only prisoners they recovered.”
Halor the Doradul’s Secondary Ops Officer made the Orvangian Gesture of Greif from loss before taking the pilot’s seat that Nathan slid out of.
“I am glad to see you and Doc got to the shuttle safely, but you should probably get some rest, that’s what I am going to do now.” Nathan gestured back to the elevator.
Once we were aboard the elevator, he thumbed the button for Deck 9 where the shuttle was stored.
“What course are we on?”
“Halor plotted a course to a Federation System called Polivor, we will be there in about a day.”
Once we reached the shuttle Nathan and I gathered our things and headed for Deck 4 officer’s quarters. Nathan claimed the Captains Quarters and offered me the First Officers, it was nowhere near as comfortable as the Doradul, in that respect it was much more like the Endeavour, it was a single chamber with a bed, chair, desk, and storage compartments, no more than 6 square metres of floor and barely 3 metres high.
All I had in the way of possessions was a Laser Rifle, a Space Suit, and the pack of seeds from the Doradul, Purple Valuri Seeds my mother had given me when I left for the Doradul. The Chamber didn’t have enough lighting for flowers to grow, the gloom better suited to the needs of the Sovereigns or Euterians.
I Stowed my things and extracted myself from the space suit, it looked ugly now, not the smooth bluish appearance it had once possessed, there were dozens of scratches on its hard segments and the Separatist sealant was brown leaving a couple of dozen irregular dirty-looking smudges where I had sealed it.
My uniform was no better, torn and tattered I had been wearing it for hours when I was sent to recover Nathan from the Endeavour 1, it smelled dirty and pink staining surrounded the tears.
Entirely disrobed I lay on the bed and dimmed the lights, the last sleep I had managed was back in the escape pod, it felt like that was days ago. Despite my exhaustion, it wasn’t easy to fall asleep, perhaps it was the stinging of wounds or the death of so many Orvangians that I knew, sleep took over an hour to reach.
I dreamt of the first year I served aboard the Doradul, we were surveying systems in the Tilbas Sector, looking for worlds that would be suitable for Orvangian settlement, they were peaceful days wandering the stars in search of beauty and quiet, I had built many friendships with members of the crew, among them was Wula, she served as a Geological specialist, surveying planetary crusts for stability. I had gathered her family seal from her body when I was on the Doradul, hers and two others, Palos wasn’t exactly my friend, a support Engineer, he was after my job but I did not wish to see him dead and Worgan, I didn’t know him well.
I woke after a few hours, my bedding stained with lymph from a wound on my side, it had opened again as I had slept. The only thing I had to wear was my torn and stained uniform so I donned it again and headed for the medical bay on deck 3.
Doctor Hule and the Tilik Nathan called Doc were here, treating plasma burns on Sub Officer Florn, she had been a ground officer during surface surveying for the Doradul.
Doc moved over to the second bed and patted it with a tentacle so I hopped up and gestured to my reopened would “It started weeping again”.
“Not to worry, I can go over them all with more care now that there are no enemies at the door.”
Doc began to treat my wounds taking time to seal and patch each one, it took over an hour of work for him to finish and I did feel considerably better.
“Thanks, Doc” I slid off the bed and turned to leave.
“I suggest you also visit the quartermasters on deck 7, they can sort you out something clean to wear.”
Clean clothes and a shower sounded great so I headed straight to Deck 7, the Doradul’s own Quartermaster was here and she soon had the ship fabricate two new uniforms for me, both now showing the embroidery pattern for the Doradul as a Memoriam pattern, though she had not included an Endeavour 2 pattern.
The deck where my quarters were had a shower block, suited to the use of four so that all the senior officers of the frigate could use it at once. I was the only one there though so I took my time cleaning, ensuring that the grime of recent events was gone.
Finally clean I donned a new uniform and stowed the other in my quarters before heading to the bridge.
Halor was still in command, using the Pilots chair as a sort of captain’s seat as he reviewed the ship’s systems and supplies, not that the information was necessary, we would be arriving at Polivor in less than 20 hours now and he would most certainly be disembarking, we all would. This ship was evidence of the Separatists’ rearming against the treaty they had signed when they lost the war.
“Jin! I thought you would be resting after all that excitement.”
“Sleep is difficult, I was hoping we had a crew roster.”
“We do” he indicated an auxiliary console “But I am sad to say that neither of the Doradul’s Therapeutic officers are with us.”
I sat on the padded bar that counted as an auxiliary station seat and brought up the roster, Nathan and Doc were both listed as well as the 21 survivors of the Doradul, 84 had died in the attack on the ship, those whose seals had been recovered were also listed, so I added the three I had collected and quietly wept for a few moments at the losses we had taken.
Less than 40 seals of dead crewmembers had been recovered and were currently being displayed in the galley on deck 3 so that was my next destination, the elevator was in use so I took the ramps.
The Galley was busy, 10 of my crewmates from the Doradul were here some at a wall where 35 seals hung in memoriam of the lost, and others were sitting at tables with the separatist equivalent of ration packs.
I approached the memorial wall and hung the three seals I had recovered, Jola and Nero gave me sympathetic hugs in response. Jola had worked with Wula as part of the survey teams so she offered to make the bond and share memories of our friend and colleague.
We sat and shared our memories through the Bond, the experiences we had each gathered of Wula being integrated, the social evenings I had shared with her, and the work humour Jola had experienced, each memory we shared built a greater picture of our lost friend in our minds and helped us to become closer friends as a result.
After the bond was over, we sat together and ate, the Separatist ration packs were simple, a grain and nut disc with a side of dried berries all held in a small plastic pouch. It wasn’t as good as the fake chicken that Nathan had shared but it was enough to sate my appetite.
Others in the Galley were sharing memories and meals, we may have lost the therapists but our shared experiences were helping us to cope with the losses.
I was about to depart the Galley when Nathan arrived with Doc, Nathan’s arms were loaded with ration packs of his own kind, far more than he could reasonably eat, and Doc was carrying a couple of bottles of medication.
Nathan selected a table next to mine and began laying out and snapping tabs on containers, a total of eight each with the same markings as the fried chicken I had tasted. Doc opened the bottles and dumped the pills into a bowl.
Once the circles turned red Nathan tore lids off packs and released the delicious smell of chicken “Ok everyone, feel free to try some Southern Fried Chicken, Be aware that the coating is a little toxic to Orvangians, so please take an Anti-Toxin pill from Doc here before you eat!” he spoke loud and clear so that everyone turned their attention to him and the smell.
I moved swiftly to the table and dry swallowed a pill before selecting a piece of chicken and biting down. My first taste of this had been without the coating so I had not been able to experience the full delights of its flavours, the coating was quite spicy though the anti-toxin was doing a good job of keeping it from being painful.
Soon others were trying the food for themselves and Nathan found himself explaining that it was not meat once again, though most were satisfied with no explanation. The atmosphere soon became more jovial and Nathan asked Buddy to play some music by another Buddy, this time a musician called Buddy Holly.
The Chicken was soon gone but the uplifted spirits would not fade so quickly, Nathan chatted with everyone, sharing jokes and stories from his people. For a few hours, the galley was a happy place.
Eventually, Nathan and I headed to the bridge to relieve Halor and monitor systems during our journey. I had never served aboard a ship built by another species before, the console layouts and bridge plan here were designed for a mixed species crew with effort made to offer interface and seating flexibility for all the races of the Separatist movement.
Someone had already modified screen layouts to better suit the Orvangian standard and seats were largely configured for our lean forms, the pilot’s chair being the only exception.
“Nathan, you understand that the Federation is likely to want this ship for study.”
“Halor told me. It’s fine though just leaves room for an Endeavour 3.” Nathan followed the statement with a Grin, something the other Orvangians on the bridge were still not used to, but I found myself grinning back causing a surprised reaction from the rest of the bridge crew.
There wasn’t much to do at warp so much of our time was just familiarising ourselves with the ship and its many systems, the Endeavour 2 was originally just referred to as the TX210-B, a combat support Frigate with an arsenal of ship-to-ship weaponry, it was designed to fight, having no other purpose.
After a few hours we were relieved of duty ourselves, Florn being the next most senior officer, he had no experience commanding a ship, but his rank was just below mine and he did command ground survey teams so he would manage for a few hours of Warp travel.
Nathan and I departed the Bridge together “You hungry?” Nathan nudged me as he spoke.
“I haven’t eaten much the last couple of days.”
“Let’s head to my quarters and grab some food then.” We used the ramps to reach deck 4, Nathan’s Fabricator was set up on the desk in his quarters and six ration packs were stacked inside it.
“Your fabricator can make food?”
“Yes, I fed it some of the separatist ration packs and it can make a half dozen different food options from them.” He took a pack from the machine and held it out to me.
He cleared the machine and started it on the next load, then he gathered the stack he had built beside it, almost two entire batches worth and headed back up to the Galley. Once we arrived, he deposited all but one of the packs onto a table at the end of the room and selected a seat at another table.
As I sat with the pack he had given me I noticed that the writing on the pack that had been in Nathan’s language when we had shared chicken on the shuttle, was now all in Orvangian, indicating the instructions to cook the meal and describing itself as a ‘Closed Spicy Meat Sandwich with vegetables and Fruit Sauce’ once the circle turned red I tore open the top to reveal a pair of shell-shaped things, they didn’t look like sandwiches really, they smelled of cooked meat and spices.
“I had Buddy modify the ingredients to eliminate toxic properties so enjoy.” Nathan bit into the crunchy exterior and juices dripped from his chin as he ate.
It was delicious, though I still preferred the chicken he had provided before. Several crew in the galley helped themselves to a pack and soon the whole galley smelled of the spices and meats of this Human food.
Two of these sandwiches were a little much for an Orvangian so most of the crew were sharing packs. After I finished one sandwich Nathan asked “You going to eat that?”
“No.” with that Nathan demolished his third and seemed sated.
“Captain Nathan. Could Buddy play some more music?” the query came from Asor a junior engineer by rank.
“Sure! Buddy, can we get some Dolly?”
“Playing Dolly Parton.” Buddy began with a song about working long hours and soon the galley was full of Orvangians badly singing along.
Eventually, the poor sleep I had gotten over the last couple of days was too much for me and I departed the music and joviality of the galley and returned to my chambers, the small size and lack of a garden hit me again as I entered the metal box military officers call spacious quarters.
Exhaustion made sleep much easier this time and I managed a good six hours of rest, my dreams largely of my childhood and memories I had gained from my bond with Jola. When I awoke it was to the voice of Nathan “All crew, we shall be arriving at the Polivor system in one hour, All crew to stations.”
I climbed out of bed and donned a fresh uniform, depositing both my dirty and tattered one into the laundry chute before heading for the bridge.
Nathan was in the Pilots chair and Halor was standing at an auxiliary station, I took a position at the first officer’s console and examined the navigation data, we were now just 35 minutes from our destination.
That time soon vanished as we prepared the ship for arrival, we would look like a separatist ship so Halor had modified our transponder data to indicate that we were the Endeavour 2 under the Galactic Federations Flag, still, we would need to prove we were not hostile so I set the weapons to safe mode and prepared a transmission of my security code and a message to indicate our allegiance. Nathan prepared to take control of the ship’s course moments before the Warp drive shut down.
We dropped out of warp at 2.2 million kilometres from the Military Outpost in the outer system.
Two Separatist Cruisers were waiting for us, barely a thousand kilometres from our arrival point they immediately opened fire, particle beams lancing out at us with their crimson fury.
Nathan’s reactions were on par as usual, jerking the controls to starboard and hitting full thrust the moment he saw the ships. He managed to evade the worst of it but a blast cut a streak across the port side of the ship, two turrets were hit and auxiliary communications were burned off the ship.
“Jin, Arm Weapons, focus fire on the sunward side ship! Halor, get me data on the state of the system.” Nathan yelled orders as he twisted the Endeavour 2 among the beams.
I had set the weapons to safety thinking we would need to look non-threatening, it was going to take two minutes to get weapons back “Captain, two minutes for weapons!”
Halor set secondary displays to show the devastated Outpost and the distant flashes of conflict over Polivor 3 “Captain, there are 5 Separatist Battleships in orbit of Polivor 3 and the Military Outpost has been destroyed.”
He paused for a moment as though he could barely believe his next statement, “We are at war.”

2023.06.08 09:01 Holothuroid Last Echo of the Lord of Waybound (Spoilers both series)

So two of my favorite series recently got their final books. Mage Errant and Cradle. So let's compare them.
Cradle ran 12 books, Mage Errant ran 7.
Both series feature a rag tag group with different elemental abilities who lost their spunky mentor two books ago and end their journey becoming inter-dimensional special operatives. Both feature a main character who has been mistreated when young, a very deadly woman, the prodigal princess of a major noble house and a guy with a hammer.
The plots of the last book are very different though. Cradle has used a static goal for much of its run. The dreadgods must be stopped. This was prompted in book 1 and finally achieved in the big battle of book 12. And over the books the characters have grown together as a team and learned what they must do.
Mage Errant on the other hand has more isolated plots over the early books, Havath as the bad guys is hinted on early on, but only appears on scene in book 4 as the half-way point. Team formation on the other hand was said and done in book 1.
This informs how the last book works. For both the Team Lindon and Team Sabae - because Hugh while being the initial PoV character does not lead the group - the second to last book has been about their emancipation. They have to learn to work without their mentor.
Dreadgod on the other hand establishes Lindon as the new group leader and the declare officially their opposition to the status quo in spirit of Eithan. Here kitty kitty kitty. Which also sets their timer for the grand finale.
Waybound then is for everybody but Lindon a race for power ups. They need that power. We knew for books that they need this power, and now they must get it quickly while Lindon delays their enemies.
Team Sabae on the hand have done all their power ups already in book 6, Tongue Eater. Powering up in ways that their mentor Alustin does not know is their emancipation. Because Alustin has betrayed them and they need power to stop him specifically. It is a slow and reflective book.
The Last Echo, the final Mage Errant book, then has the stage all set. Alustin wants to destroy Havath, but threatens to blow up the continent. Sabae and allies want to prevent that. It turns Havath city into war zone with four armies, even more plotters, mixing alliances and much confusion. The final battle our heroes must fight is not the one they have come for and they are as little prepared as in the end of book 1 in the labyrinth, which is reflected 1:1 in small details.
So, what do you guys think?

2023.06.08 09:00 dannelbaratheon Of Dagor Dagorath - Two Kinslayers (Tolkien/Wheel of Time Crossover)

Chapter V

Two Kinslayers

"Has anything changed?"
The man, if he could thought of as a man, was covered in black robes. He refused to wear anything else, murmuring in his foreign language at every word, move or sound of others.
"Is he any better?"
As good as us, Lews Therin said. He's a killer, like I am.
Shut up.
Alanna and Verin both inspected him. Looking up, Rand noticed Mat, Aviendha and the Maidens of the Spear were all terrified of him. The Aiel women did their best to hide it, but he still saw it in their faces.
"Moriñgotho." the man said. "Moriñgotho enutúlie." The word "Moriñgotho" was the one he kept repeating all the time.
"He is..." Verin said bewildered, staring at him still. "He is...fine. There is nothing wrong about him. His body is completely healthy. No scars, no wound...he is completely fine."
Alanna touched his head. "Light! It's the opposite. His body is stronger than any of us. He is in better shape than anyone I've ever seen."
"Eru apseni. Ilúvatar, apseni. "
"He is stronger. Taller. Healthier than anyone I had ever seen."
Rand nodded, looking down at the man. He was still shaking and murmuring. He was not looking at any of them or anything at all. His grey eyes were completely absent. Rand barely needed to even lean to touch the man - even when sitting, his head and shoulders were close to Rand's. Rand removed his thick black hair, in his hand feeling it very smooth, looking at his ears. "Pointy? He has pointy ears?"
"Yes." Verin said, looking at the other one. "I don't understand it either." His ears were not slightly pointed: rather both ears were noticeably longer than of any ordinary man. Not abnormaly so, but noticeably. "Maybe he was just born that way."
"If he was born at all." Mat added.
The Aes Sedai looked at him, visibly irritated, with Alanna biting her lip. "And why exactly are you questioning that?"
"Why? Oh, I have no idea. Maybe because he fell from the bloody sky?"
"Cauthon!"
"Stop!" That was all Rand needed to say to convince them. Shutting up an Aes Sedai or Mat was an impossible task sometimes.
"Moriñgotho." the man continued. "Moriñgotho."
"Is he speaking real words or is he just...stuttering?"
Like you, maybe? Lews Therin chuckled.
Verin did not answer immediately. She kept listening to him for a while. "Those are real words. But..."
"But what?"
"I don't know what language it is, Rand." she said bluntly. "And I don't think anyone in the world does."
"Moriñgotho. Moriñgotho."
"That word he is repeating." Aviendha said. "Maybe it is his name?"
Rand looked at the man again. He was repeating that word all the time, yes - but he did so with terror. It seemed like he said it always as quickly as possible, just to end it. "No. It's not a name. Not his at least."
"How do you know?"
"I do." Aviendha and the Maidens rumbled about "wetlanders" when he said that. He placed the hand on his shoulder, slightly shaking him. "Listen to me..."
"Moriñgotho. Moriñgotho." he said. "Morikotto. Morkotho?" He looked at them once, as if waiting to be corrected, but then continued... "Moringotto. Moriñgotho."
He's lost his mind, Rand thought. Is he a channeler? And yet somehow, Rand doubted that was the case.
"What do we do with him?" Mat asked. "He needs help."
"And what do you want us to do, Cauthon?"
"Heal him."
Verin scoffed. "From what? Have you heard what we said? There is nothing wrong with him."
"Light, woman, he is mad! Rumbling the same thing over and over again!"
"Morkotho. Moriñgotho. Morgotto? Morikotto."
"You can Heal him, can't you?"
Alanna was frustrated with Mat's tone, but she felt Rand's answer to that. Just try if you dare. She bit her lip. "One Power can heal all wounds of the body, Cauthon. All except death itself. That is true. But no one, not even in the Age of Legends, was ever able to heal any mental illness or insanity itself. That is impossible. At most the Compulsion can be reversed, but that is all."
Mat looked at him. "Rand?"
Rand just shook his head. Lews Therin remembered some type of Healing of the mind, but... It came from him, not the Creator. You are still mad, though.
Mat kept looking back at the man. "We can't just leave him."
"And what will we do, Mat?" Rand asked him, almost deciding to turn back. "We cannot help everyone." Curse me, but we cannot.
Davram Bashere looked at the man, then at Rand again. "With all due respect, Lord Dragon, everyone saw him fall from the sky. Not only that, but people have said they saw a bright falling star moments before he fell."
"And you think he is that star?" Of all people, Rand never expected Bashere to be superstituos.
"If the possibilities are that narrow?" he shrugged. "I honestly do."
Rand clicked his tongue. And they say male channelers are mad.
"Rand al'Thor." Aviendha said. "No one is lying here. We all saw the star falling."
"Suppose you are all right." He played with buttons on his sleeve. "Let us say there was a star that fell and he was there when it did. Doesn't mean at all he needs to be that star."
Alanna felt frustrated, Rand returning that emotion.
"Rand, look at him!" Mat pointed at the man. "Does he look like an ordinary man to you? And we are all telling you - he fell from the sky!"
"If you do not trust us," Aviendha said. "ask the others in the city."
"The Pattern, Rand." Verin said. "Whoever or whatever he is, the Pattern brought him here."
"And how do you know that?"
"How?" Verin scratched her chin. "Well, I am just an Aes Sedai, after all. However, I seem to remember people do not often fall from the sky."
Sky was filled with fire and ash, then. Lews Therin seemed to have gotten quite talkative at the moment. When I killed her. He started weeping. I killed my Ilyena.
"Moriñgotho."
"I cannot take care of him."
"Who said so?" Alanna commented. "Honestly, you would be the worst person for that, al'Thor."
Rand bit his tongue before answering back. If I don't want her being proud, I must be humble too.
"We will take care of him." Verin said. "We can..."
Rand cut her off with one short glance. "Mat?"
"Yes?"
"You will take care of him."
Cauthon reached his chest. "What?"
"Since you are so eager to help him. And you found him first."
He nodded. "So...I need to go find the princess and take care of this poor man. You want me to clean your toilet too?"
Alanna felt like an injustice was done to her when Rand let that pass. "He is safe with you too."
"This is absurd!" Verin said. "Rand al'Thor, we need him with us! Whatever he is saying must be properly translated."
"Fingolfin..." The man said, with a voice that was almost breaking. "Hanno! Hanno, apseni!"
"He is going where I said he is going - as far away from Aes Sedai as possible." He did not consider them deserving of even a look. "He is going with the Band of the Red Hand. I will not argue about this."
Even Sulin scoffed. "Rand al'Thor, don't you dare be that stupid!"
Davram Bashere just looked to the side during this argument. Insulting superiors was something only the Aiel considered acceptable, as it seemed. Rand continued with his own. "He goes with Matrim, Aes Sedai. My decision is final."
"If you do this, the White Tower will not be on good terms with you anymore. And you need us, Rand al'Thor."
They all stopped as the man stood up from his seat. Standing now almost a head taller than Rand, he gave a glance to each of them. Those grey eyes were deeper and older than the sea itself and the face, again, more timeless than the face of the Aes Sedai. He looked down on them all, then fixing his sight on Rand. He stared long enough for Lews Therin to start rumbling...and then go silent without any interferrence of Rand.
The man walked up to the window, looking over the city. Rand slowly approached him from behind, and the man turned back to him. "Here." he said abruptly.
Rand narrowed his eyes. "What?"
"Here." The man pointed towards the bottom, then to himself. "Here. Stay?" he said, again waiting to be corrected. "Here. Stay here."
"What, you want me to stay here?" The man started nodding, but when Rand pointed at himself, he shook it, then placing a hand on his chest. "No...you want to stay here?"
The man nodded. "Náto."
"I suppose that means yes." Rand said. "Very well. Do you want their help?" Rand pointed towards the Aes Sedai and tried to explains with his hands as best as possible.
The man slowly came to understand it. "No."
"No?"
"No know?" He shook his head. "No! Lá sí. Now not."
"Not now? You do not want their help at the moment? In this place or at the moment?"
"Náto."
"But maybe later?"
"Náto."
"Alright then." Rand said, offering his hand for a shake. "You may stay." Alanna felt like she will scream. The man looked at Rand's hand for a bit before eventually taking it and slowly shaking it. Light, he has a strong shake! he admitted. "Bashere?"
"My lord."
"Find some servants to help our friend. Get him a home or a room."
"At command, lord." he clasped, leaving the room to look for some servants.
When Rand turned, he saw them all staring at him, confused and frustrated, all except Verin. He had no intention to explain himself, not even to Aviendha and Mat. Verin, however, was staring at the man. "He just learned to speak the Common Tongue fluently...within minutes?"
Mat scratched his hand. "Uh...Verin Sedai, he simply babbled a few words."
"That he never heard before or understood." Verin looked towards Rand, expecting him to change his mind.
"He is not a rat you can experiment on." Rand said. "He said he doesn't want your help now. He will ask for it later."
She pursed her lips and closed her eyes. "Rand, please! He is important, whoever he is. We can help him..."
"He will ask for it when he needs it." Rand did not raise his voice and went to leave. "Mat, you come with me. You others can stay or go."
The women all wanted to burn him as it seemed, but he could not care less about it anymore. The room he led them to was Mat's temporary place while he was still in Caemlyn. Rand was not going to change his plans, despite the man's appearance. "Nice place." Rand said. "Not as warm as the Two Rivers, however."
"It is cozy, yes." Mat took a seat on his bed. "But I must admit I miss the Two Rivers."
Tam's gentle voice. The baaing of sheep. What did I do to deserve this? "Make haste slowly, Mat.” He started striding up and down. He never looked in Mat’s direction. He could feel sweat slicking his face, and his jaw was tight. "He has to see it coming. Everything depends on it.”
Mat started taking his boots off. "I know,” he said sourly. "I helped make the bloody plan, remember?”
That was a thing Mat would always say. He missed those days when the two of them, along with Perrin, would just live and rejoice. He found it, at he very least, good he met other people and loved other people after that. That was not encouraging, but it was comforting.
He started thinking of Aviendha then. Mat always had a way with women, he thought. How do you know you’re in love with a woman, Mat? he almost asked, but then brushed it off. Mat already had enough of burden on his own shoulders. Rand did not want to place his own upon him too. And...something pulled those words away from him.
He still did not stop his striding, and he dropped it in as if it fit what he had been saying. "I’ll finish Sammael, Mat. I promised that; I owe it to the dead. But where are the others? I need to finish them all. One at a time, though.” That was all he could do.
What did I do to deserve this?
"There are Dragonsworn in Murandy, Mat. In Altara, too. Men sworn to me. Once Illian is mine, Altara and Murandy will drop like ripe plums. I’ll make contact with the Dragonsworn in Tarabon - and in Arad Doman - and if the Whitecloaks try to keep me out of Amadicia, I’ll crush them. The Prophet has Ghealdan primed, and Amadicia almost, so I hear."
The Prophet. An old word. From an age long forgotten. Even Lews Therin mocked it from time to time. Men who heard voices in their heads, he would often say. So I am a prophet too, am I?
"Can you imagine Masema as the Prophet?" Unimportant question. "Saldaea will come to me; Bashere is sure of it. All the Borderlands will come. They have to! I am going to do it, Mat. Every land united before the Last Battle. I’m going to do it!” He hadn't noticed his voice had taken on a feverish tone.
"Sure, Rand.” Mat said slowly, depositing his other boot beside the first. “But one thing at a time, right?”
One thing at a time. There was a game like that. His voice started breaking. The game my children liked to play. I killed them. I killed them and my Ilyena.
Rand sighed. "No man should have another man’s voice in his head." he muttered. How long has Lews Therin been in there? Rand did not remember when was the first time he heard him. It seemed to him that it happened when Lanfear met him in Tear. That seemed to have triggered Lews Therin to come out. Since then, the Kinslayer just started speaking louder and louder. Very rarely did he say meaningful things. Just babbling about his wife and children, and friends long gone. From time to time, he would speak of creatures of old, or "Angels of Heaven" as he called them, begging them or the Creator for forgiveness. But otherwise, he was just babbling.
He's like us. Lews Therin said then. &He's like me. He killed.*
Who?
Those who were his family.
No. Who are you talking about?
I killed my Ilyena.
He sighed again. You are mad. Like Sammael was. "He can be gulled, Mat - Sammael always thinks in straight lines - but is there any opening he can slip through? If there’s any mistake, thousands will die. Tens of thousands. Hundreds will anyway, but I don’t want it to be thousands.” he said that more to himself than to Mat. Not even to Lews Therin - himself.
"But, what about him?" Mat asked, expecting Rand to know. "You really don't think he's a big thing?"
"Maybe." Rand said. "Maybe the Pattern or the Creator himself sent him as help or temptation." Then he narrowed his eyes. "Or maybe the Dark One himself sent him here. Maybe he is even one of the Forsaken." Lews Therin did not agree, however. "You see it makes sense, right Mat?"
Mat looked down at his boots. "Yes...I think I know what you mean. But...Light, what if he is an ally? You can't refuse help, you know?"
Lews Therin scoffed and, honestly, Rand would have too. He has been refusing "help" ever since killing Rahvin. "Don't worry about him, Mat. He is my burden now. What you need to do is stick to the plan."
"But, there is something off about this, Rand..."
"Don't worry about it." He insisted. "Just stick to the plan."
"That is all?" Mat expected something more. What is it? "That is all you have to say?"
"Yes. That's all." He opened the door, not even looking back. "Sleep, Mat. You'll need good rest tonight." Rand closed the door, continuing his way through the red corridor that was covered in light of only few torches. He made some light himself, weaving Fire and Air together. The Maidens were, at the moment, absent, and had left him alone there.
Two hundred and five. That is how many people had died when he fought Rahvin excluding Aviendha and Mat and who, unlike them, stayed dead. And Mangin...He was hanged this morning. I watched it. That was all he could do for him. The young Aiel was much like Mat, and had a great respect for Rand, wanting to protect his honor. He cursed Aiel honor three times when that happened. Aiel customs, Aiel culture and all of it. And he cursed Andoran stupidity, Andoran pride and Andoran carelessness. Lews Therin instead behaved practically and cursed them both. Wetlander, Andoran, Aiel...it's all the same. Bands of babbling idiots, both talking of honor, when they can't even agree what that word means.
How many more needed to die because of such pathetic views of honor? The Forsaken also wanted honor - honor and glory. Demandred, Sammael and Lanfear wanted it most of all. Did it make it any better? Lews Therin seemed to actually wonder about that.
He wondered again. He hated it. Hard as stone. I must be hard. Light, I must. The man can stay for now. If he is an ally, good. If he is an enemy, good - he knows how to handle him quickly. As easy as Rahvin.
He extinguished the lights, allowing sound and smell to lead him instead. He woke up the next day, still feeling tired.

2023.06.08 08:49 b4d0m3n Struggling with the quality of Deakin assessments and marking

Earlier this year I commenced a Graduate Diploma in Psychology Science at Deakin University. The first Trimester is coming to a close and my experience has not been the best. To help calibrate my expectations moving forward, I'd like to share my main concerns and hopefully hear some feedback that will assist in making some decisions.
Firstly, the units are about 80% research. I feel like I am studying academic writing, not psychology. I am wondering if this is the same elsewhere.
Secondly, some of the unit assessments come in the form of quizzes. The questions are meant to test applied learning. While I can appreciate this notion, my goodness some of the questions and answers are authored so poorly that they tend to move away from or become ambiguous to the subject matter they're attempting to test. Is this common?
Finally, the alignment to the marking rubrics is abhorrent. Even when dissecting a rubric and covering all requirements in a thorough and considered manner, it seems that subjectivity creeps in with the markers and their opinion seems to result in a loss of marks. Further, the markers regularly make mistakes and misinterpretations. I have also lost marks for writing something in a manner explicitly stated in the marking rubric. The re-marking process is disgusting and a deterrent for students. After re-marking, the student is awarded the mean of the two scores, which can result in a lower mark, but never the full potential of a higher mark offered.
My gut tells me that the unit teams are intentionally throttling marking due to limited Honours places. I understand that I can sometimes do better in my assessments, I am not asking for 100% and know that I make mistakes, it's just the pattern here tells a different story and I am wondering whether to get out early and try elsewhere or whether it's the same wherever I go.
Would love to hear some experiences or feedback.

2023.06.08 08:46 trip2history Ardeshir Palace

Ardeshir Palace
This #ancient building was built by #Ardeshir #Babakan, the founder of the #Sassanid #dynasty, and it is considered one of the first Sassanid #architectural works, located next to a village called #Atashkadeh. Ardeshir Palace is regarded as the most critical and substantial #historical #monument of #Firozabad, located 2Km from Firozabad #city of #Fars, and it is built with stone rubble and plaster mortar. Ardeshir Babkan built this #palace near the entrance of #Tangab next toa big spring, considered the first Sassanid vaulted building. This palace has inner halls, and after 1800 years, the plastering of the upper part of its inner walls has remained intact. On the #eastern side of the palace, there are four large #dome-shaped buildings; these domes are raised by #elephants, similar to what can be seen in #Dokhtar #Castle (Ardeshir castle). A part of the tip of the roof of the domes is open in a circular shape with a diameter of one meter. On the #northern side, outside the palace wall, a spring is also bubbling up from the soil, and a natural pool has appeared in front of this spring. A river passes by the eastern wall of the palace, which was the foundation for the development of the city of #Gore and the Sassanid Palace. A little above the court, there is a #bonfire for holding #religious #rituals. The four natural elements of water, wind, earth, and fire have given this region special prominence. Some believe this building was not a palace but a fire temple. The reason for their belief is the beliefs of the #Mehr religion, according to which every important building built by the water was a place to #pray to the #goddess #Anahita and #Mehr. The late Hassan #Pirnia,or the famous Moshir al-Dawlah, wrote about this building: “Firozabad or Barin fire pit (224 AD) is one of the other important buildings of this period. Western #Iranologists are trying to consider it as Ardeshir Palace, but it seems like it needs to be clarified, and a palace must have some spaces, which this building does not have. The # vital point in this fire temple is various #architectural #techniques. The materials and construction of that canvas were natural, like dead stones stacked on each other. Until now, this fire temple is the largest building of rubble stone that has been built. The #arch and dome have been used to cover it’s different spaces. After the Baze Hor building, the second dome (on the quadrangular surface) was seen in this building, which was also the largest dome of its time. The cornering of the domes is (#tarnabeh). After that, in the #daughter castle of this area, the cornering of Skanj has been done. According to #Istakhari, the three spaces of the dome were the place of the three holy fires. The middle dome is on a complete #octagon, but the two side domes are built on a #hexagon surrounded by a #square, and it is also called a cambium dome. Another important point is the construction of #Khishkhan (Bad Parva or Bad Pich), built for airflow inside the walls. The same method is also used in #Gonabad in the east of #Khorasan. It is important among other #ancient #monuments around this palace, we can mention the #kitchen building behind the #court, tell #Naqarkhane near the palace, #Hassan #Abad #Castle, and other ancient villages. Also, the structure of #Imamzadeh #Jafar in the area of the #old city, which remains from the #Ilkhani period, or very interesting #tombstones, one of which has a date of 741 AH.

2023.06.08 08:46 Iceblader Have you realized later in life that your parents were not as good to you as you thought?

I have noticed that a common factor among some INTJs is that they grew up in environments that made them develop resilience, such as parents who were psychologically abusive or not very supportive emotionally.
In my case, I was remembering many aspects of my life and trying to see them from an adult perspective and in the third person.
My mother did things such as:
* Having me (second child after my older brother whose father she never had a relationship with, ie single mother) and not telling my father until after 6 months because I didn't think he would take responsibility despite being a man with a career and a well-paying job, but in those six months he had already impregnated another woman whom he planned to marry so she gave up and decided to raise my brother and me alone.
*Yelling at me every time my performance in school dropped a little despite getting good grades and being very disciplined by the standards of children my age.
*Making very bad investments to the point that we lost the house where the whole family lived and forcing us to move to another country where we moved constantly until an aunt gave us asylum in the capital of my country.
*I had night terrors and irrational fears of mundane things like TV shows that others enjoyed and made me scream and cry, and even though I (an 11 year old boy) asked her to take me to the psychologist she never even did the minimal effort for it since that was "for crazy people" and I shouldn't be crazy. (I think I may be undiagnosed autistic, but it's just a suspicion since I haven't had any tests).
*In the capital we live with our aunt in a very small room, my mother, my older brother and I slept there, but my mother did not have a steady job and after a year my aunt told her that we had to leave since she he had only promised to have us until she got a place of her own.
*My mother did not find a better solution than to find a man who would support her, and she found him, a guy with 4 children who hit her on one of the dates and said that they had tried to rob them both, even so she continued with him. We moved to a small town and I had to act as an older brother to those 4 of his children, luckily my aunt took pity on me and said that I could stay with her. During the months that passed, my mother threw my brother out on the street for fighting with her boyfriend because he mistreated her.
*She returned to my aunt after a few months and we all lived well for a while, until my aunt broke up with her "husband" (since she was the guy's mistress, since he was married) and we had financial problems, for which she left to another house with her son (My cousin) My mom then would take it out on me verbally despite doing well in school and not doing any "puberty crazes" beyond playing video games a bit later than usual.

Do you think these things were bad even though she meant well and showed affection to me and my brother? Or am I the one who is exaggerating?

2023.06.08 08:45 NoPoliticalParties Eating even less than I thought

So everyone who’s struggled to lose weight knows the stereotype that we are eating way more than we think and we’re either just deluding ourselves or lying to the world.
My first month on MJ, I lost about 5 lbs, which doesn’t sound like much compared to a lot of you, but it’s amazing for me (ha).
Well, I decided to try a second month of 2.5 mg to see if I keep losing at that rate.
To make sure I’m not “deluding myself,” I got the My Fitness Pal app today and decided to start tracking my food very carefully, starting tomorrow.
However, when I added the app today it was showing zero calories for the day which bothered me (lol), so I thought what the heck, I’ll put in everything I ate today, and it was actually a very “big day” where I ate more than normal and felt kind of bad about it. I figured this would be good, to have a day of reckoning to see just how much I ate on a day when I ate more than usual.
If you’d asked me for my best estimate, I’d say on a “good day” I eat about 1000 calories, and today I guessed it was probably more like 1200-1300.
It was 983. My wild day of “eating a lot” was 983 calories. Yeah that included the cream in my coffee — everything I consumed.
Turns out I have not been deluding myself. I eat even less than I thought. And the only feedback I get from my lousy HMO doctor has been “eat less and move more; people eat more than they think.” She doesn’t believe that I eat very little, because how could I possibly be telling the truth and have so much weight to lose? I must be shoveling in Big Macs and pints of ice cream and lying to her face. (Because…why?)
I’ve been saying to my doctors for years that I’m metabolically very “off” (it happened after a miscarriage, after a lifetime of being a normal weight while eating much more than this) but after running very basic tests for thyroid and diabetes, which came back normal, the doctors decided I just completely changed my lifestyle and began not only intensively overeating but lying to the world about it.
Back when I was a normal weight person, I never had to be as disciplined as this. I ate like a normal human. Mostly decent food, in normal amounts, and some treats. Weighed a little more in winter and a little less in summer.
It’ll be amazing if with the help of MJ I can lose a pound a week and in a couple years finally get back to my normal adult weight, because literally nothing worked until now, but (1) it shouldn’t be this hard (taking this drug is by no means a “cheat”); (2) it’s probably not healthy to eat this little; and (3) doctors shouldn’t treat us as if we’re bad, flawed, lazy human beings who stuff our faces and deserve all the health problems that go along with excess weight because they believe we did this to ourselves and therefore deserve it.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but it’s not normal or right.
With or without MJ, this is really hard and it takes an enormous amount of self-discipline and effort— much more than any normal-weight person has to do.
