2023.03.26 15:03 McGarvish New rider with a DCT

I've been in love with the classic styling of cruisers since I was a kid. I could only ever imagine myself riding one. My first bike was an 09 Vulcan 900 Custom I bought in January and it just felt like a boat going down the road. Not so great with corners and it was pretty slow to move, but I currently weigh 330lbs so that couldn't have helped. Slow speed maneuvering did not feel comfortable at all to me because the bike felt kind of top heavy.
I was out cruising yesterday and came across a Rebel 1100 DCT so I had to jump on it. I fell in love! I never thought I would be interested in a more straight up riding style like this, but here I am, a new owner of a Rebel 1100. It checks pretty much all of my boxes. It made me realize that depending on the person, there's more to riding than just going in a straight line. I feel like I would be a lot more comfortable trying other styles out in the future, which I never would have considered a few months ago.
New riders and seasoned veterans, no matter what you ride you should try out some other styles of bikes too. You might just like it!
Can't forget to show off!

NSB (Straud Legacy) Gen 7 Ep. 44: A Little Mad Science
The Story of a Family Told in Web Comic Format
---------------------------------------------
The day after Ed’s flea market farewell to his folks, Kori and he had one last farm fresh breakfast before leaving for her tour.
Spencer made them a special french toast send off and “team farm” sat down together one final time before going their separate ways. Outside Ed had prepared a farewell prank for his jokester best bud, while Steven wished Kori safe travels. She made him promise to write often, telling him she wanted to know the minute another little “niece” or “nephew” was on the way.
This group of old friends had been together a long time, and parting was indeed such sweet sorrow.
https://preview.redd.it/xsox3z9iz2qa1.png?width=4218&format=png&auto=webp&s=e786eba09c16721dba304a8022c5c03dd9d2a838
---------------------------------------------
After goodbye’s Steven and Gabby turned their steps towards Peppino’s home in Oasis Springs. He’d let them know he’d gathered everything he needed, and it was time to proceed with the insemination procedure.
Settling in the living room their old teacher went over the details of the process. He’s collect “samples” from both of them, combine them, and then perform the final critical step of implanting a few in Steven. While both sims could expect some mild discomfort afterwards, in his experience the whole thing was relatively painless.
Steven was disappointed to discover the odds of having multiples was roughly on par with natural methods, but it didn’t change his commitment to the process, so Peppino lead them to the room he had prepared for the occasion.
https://preview.redd.it/g944mfpiz2qa1.png?width=3246&format=png&auto=webp&s=9711b1d6b1d4c5e4a008d3b18df5971e80b48758
---------------------------------------------
A surprisingly short time later it was over. Peppino sent Steven to take a pregnancy test as he and Gabby waited in the living room.
Time seemed to stretch on forever as Steven waited to see if a 2nd pink line would appear on the test strip. He almost couldn’t believe it when he saw it. Jumping up to tell the others, he was stopped in his tracks on the way out of the bathroom.
He hardly needed any test as evidence of his pregnancy. He instinctively reached down to cradle the soft swell of his previously flat stomach, staring in wonder at the irrefutable evidence of the new life growing inside him.
https://preview.redd.it/boichk2jz2qa1.png?width=3491&format=png&auto=webp&s=abe781409b8739e97555dcb4b84381d61efa6e59
---------------------------------------------
Steven called out to his wife. As she and Peppino turned to face him his plan to announce his success was quickly interrupted by an overwhelming wave of nausea that instead had him running right back to the toilet.
Between that and the unmistakable roundness he had noticed himself, he didn’t actually have to say a word.
With sincere thanks to Peppino for his assistance and a promise to call him if they needed anything, the couple headed back to the farm, excited to let Hope and Spencer know they would be Aunt Hope and Uncle Spencer soon.

---------------------------------------------
This storyline as written is straight from my imagination, but it does use in-game, modded, mechanics.
To allow Steven to get pregnant I went into CAS, marking Steven as “can become pregnant” and Gabby as “can impregnate”. Then I was able to use the RPO (aka Woohoo wellness) mod to do a standard “artificial insemination” attempt. That way there was a realistic chance of failure and I got all the popups from that. I was also able to have Steven take the Realistic Birth mod pregnancy test.
---------------------------------------------
I started this series to share my sim story, and I love hearing from you. Please consider dropping me a comment or a vote, its always great to get your feedback.
Thank you for your time!

2023.03.26 14:58 CrazyTechWizard96 BMW E39 Door Actuator Replacement needed or is it something else?

Hello guys, I'm just watching a recent video from E39Source and came to the point where Ryan is talking about the Door Actuator, wich reminded Me My E39 and it's Passenger Door. ... So, long story short, in My case the locking and unlocking isn't slow as how He describes it, also in the older replacement video it's just... Eeh... When I unlock it's mostly fine, but when I lock the doors it's often by around half a second off, still sounds snappy and quick, just delayed. ... What do You guys think? Dying actuator or might it be something else wich cause it to be a off? ... Before You ask, that would be the final Door in My '01 Touring, had all the panels off including the tailgate, so, nothing to new for Me, haha.

2023.03.26 14:53 steviephilcdf My take on Rictavio's controversial view of the Vistani

CW: Racism
I saw another post on here the other day about Rictavio's 'racism' towards the Vistani, and it reminded me to type up my thoughts on it (and yes, the quotemarks around 'racism' are intentional - I'll get to that).
Firstly, a disclaimer to say that racism is an abhorrence in every way/shape/form. By discussing this topic, I'm not meaning to make light of the issue, so apologies if it comes across that way. It's easy for me to talk about racism in an imaginery game shared between friends, when real-life racism is so much more of a complex and awful issue. Also, I'm a white guy living in a first-world country (the UK; I'm actually Welsh, so I have received some extremely rare abuse because of that, but it's hardly comparable...), so I understand that I'm privileged.
A lot of folks are uncomfortable with the way that Rictavio and his tiger are portrayed in Curse of Strahd - that he's trained a tiger to hunt the Vistani, a race of people - and that's totally understandable. The simple solution is to change it or to take it out entirely. I'm not a fan of including racism/xenophobia in D&D and therefore CoS (e.g. I don't do the thing where some Barovians are xenophobic towards non-humans or the more unusual races). I did leave in the tiger thing though. Rictavio/Van Richten was the fated ally (or "Strahd's enemy") in my game, and so it presented an interesting and unusual dynamic between him and the PCs. The more it panned out, the more I realised something.
My take (in summary) is this: Rictavio isn't racist. Instead, he's so focused on his goal (defeat Strahd) that he's completely oblivious to the fact that what he's doing could even be perceived as such - until someone points it out to him. At best, he's 'accidentally/unintentionally racist'. Allow me to explain in more detail...

A means to an end

As we know (although I didn't want to mention it too early on in the post, in case a CoS player saw it by accident), Rictavio is actually the disguise used by Dr. Rudolph Van Richten, the legendary monster hunter.
I can't remember where I read this (in fact I thought it was so ingrained into VR's personality that I genuinely thought it was one of his written ideals/bonds/flaws), but a good way to think of VR is that everything he does is a means to an end.
He is so focused on his goal to take down Strahd that he will do it any way he can. And he's doing so in a methodical way, not necessarily a logical one. Almost like he's thinking: "What can I do to take down Strahd? One way to make him weaker is to take out some of his allies. Some of the Vistani are his allies..." and his idea has spiralled from there.

Too focused on monsters...

Van Richten has spent his life fighting monsters, starting with the vampire who turned his son. He's presumably defeated many more. He's written books on monsters. Since the start of his decades-long quest to defeat evil, he has been immersed and engrossed in the study of monsters - of evil.
Despite his quest for good, he's been doing it for a long time. A looong time. That has to take a toll on someone. When you spend a long time learning about and fighting monsters, you're always thinking about monsters - and, unfortunately, you might start to think things/people that aren't monsters are monsters. Or at least put them in the same basket.
If we carry on pulling the "Strahd's allies" thread I started to pull on above, we know that he knows vampires inside and out, as well as monsters capable of necromancy (Strahd is both). So he knows full well that Strahd has allies that include but are not limited to: bats, rats, wolves, vampire spawn, zombies, skeletons, wights... He also knows that some of the Vistani are his allies. Can you spot the odd one out? Amongst that list of mindless/controlled beasts and undead, one of them is a group of people.
I like the idea that VR has become so jaded with researching and fighting monsters that he's unfortunately looking at the Vistani in the same way.
Deep down though, VR is good - he's just lost his way with this one.

How it played out in my campaign

Rictavio/VR was my players' fated ally, so - despite his 'curse' - he travelled with the PCs as they traversed Barovia and its perils.
Ezmerelda appeared not long after they discovered Rictavio's true identity, and also joined the group. He was surprised and also worried to see her, knowing full well that his tiger could attack her (in fact, at one point, he commissioned Blinsky to create a vampire doll instead - using some of Doru's clothing - and swapped the Vistani doll out for the vampire one, so that it would develop a sense for the undead instead). He kept the tiger in its wagon at all times as a result. The only exception was Strahd's dinner invitation at Castle Ravenloft: Ez abstained (she'd already annoyed the count by trying and failing to slay him, as per the "Ezmerelda's Retreat" event), so they travelled without her - and when they encountered a corpse flower on the Svalich Road after leaving, he let the tiger out for that fight.
I dropped another clue beyond the above: the tiger was mostly docile in the wagon on their travels, but when Arrigal got close to the wagon one time, the tiger lurched and roared from inside.
Then, when I rolled the 'Vistani bandits' random encounter on the road one time, the tiger got free and attacked. Understandably, my players were mortified - they knew immediately what was going on, without me having to spell it out further. One of them suggested that they turn him into the Vistani, and that they put him on trial - an expected but awesome curveball in our campaign, resulting in one of its most memorable moments.
Naturally, Ez was also shocked and repulsed. VR panicked, trying his best to explain his intentions: he's not racist, it was just a plan to try and take out some of Strahd's minions, explaining his theory that the Vistani based outside Vallaki all work for Strahd. This is where Ez corrects him:
Ez: "Jeez, VR! What the hell?! There's children in that camp! Didn't you know that?! Your tiger could've hurt or even killed them!"
VR: "I... I'm sorry. I didn't know. I just assumed it was... oh, by all the good gods, what was I thinking?!"
This pivoted the perspective of VR: he's not a horrible old racist (or at least not intentionally), he's someone who's only just realised how stupid, ridiculous and dangerous his tiger-training plan was - and Ez gave him one helluva wake-up call over it.
I also like the idea that despite being this smart monster hunter, he's not perfect. Not every plan he has will be perfectly executed. And boy - he has got this one very, very wrong.

Why I like this version

Anyway... Like I said in my intro/disclaimer, this is a complicated topic, which I hope I've done justice (I probably haven't), so here's hoping I don't get downvoted to oblivion, eh? 😅
Thanks for reading. I'd be curious to know the thoughts of others. Do you agree or disagree? Does my theory have merit, or is it as silly as VR's plan to train the tiger in the first place? You tell me.

2023.03.26 14:50 masasin What to do when a restriction appears part way on a one-way road?

I was driving in the area yesterday when a car emerged from this highway exit and almost crashed into me. So I investigated.
In Edegem, there is this highway exit off the E19. If you go down it, you see that there is a sign prohibiting vehicles over 2 tons. Let's assume that is okay for now. Past the end of the intersection, you see another sign hidden in the bushes. It's a C3, no entry, except for UZA ambulances.
It's a one-way road, so you obviously can't reverse out (since it's dangerous), and continuing means you probably get a fine because Camera bewaking. You need to continue though.
Why isn't there a sign on the highway saying that it's ambulances only? (In fact, there's no sign mentioning the exit at all.) Is the fact that the restriction appears past the point of no return a mitigating circumstance in that case? Also, how are ambulances allowed to pass the first sign of they mass over two tons?

2023.03.26 14:41 Slade4Lucas How would you rank the games solely on their Nitro Course offerings?

  1. Super Mario Kart - the courses are reused way too many times and it makes most of them stand out far less.
  2. Mario Kart 64 - it has a couple of standouts but the vast majority of these are so uninteresting.
  3. Mario Kart Tour - don't get me wrong, this has some great ones, including a couple of its nitros and the RMX courses are a nice bonus, but overall the centralisation on City courses does affect it somewhat, even if it is also one of the cool gimmicks about it.
  4. Mario Kart DS - it has some killer standouts for sure the issue is that outside or those most of its courses are uninteresting and it has arguably amount the most forgettable Rainbow Roads and Bowser Castles in the franchise
  5. Mario Kart: Super Circuit - I can't in good faith put this any higher given the flat nature of the courses, but the actual themes for the majority of the courses are excellent and even when they reuse themes that ensure each one feels unique. Plus the actual layouts of the courses are really interesting. But yeah, can't justify it going above the midway point.
  6. Mario Kart 8 - the thing with 8 is that far too many of the courses simply don't stand out and even though there are some great ones, I honestly believe the only true classic that 8 has provided us is Big Blue.
  7. Mario Kart 7 - most of the courses are actually pretty good, and most have some interesting stuff in them but I don't feel like there are enough absolute top tier courses.
  8. Mario Kart: Double Dash - I don't think there is a course that is genuienly any less than good, and it has some pretty great courses.
  9. Mario Kart Wii - I won't say I am in love with every course in this game, but there is a reason so many of this game's courses have gone down as instant classics, more than any other game. Even the ones I would say aren't in that absolute top tier like Toad's Factory are incredibly well loved.

CHEYENNE, Wyo., March 22, 2023
CHEYENNE, Wyo., March 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Gold Corp. (Nasdaq: USAU) (the "Company", "we" or "our"), a copper and gold exploration and development company, released information regarding gold and copper concentrate quality from its CK Gold Project, (the "Project") located near Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Management is pleased to report that metallurgical testing at the Project site has produced a gold and copper concentrate desirable to smelter-refinery operators due to the quality of its gold and copper content and absence of some of the common penalty elements. The concentrates will be shipped off-site to a smelter for further processing and blending with other concentrates. Metal extraction that takes place off-site at an established smelter is an indication that very few chemicals are utilized at site. Additionally, there will be no emissions at the site associated with smelting and refining.
Kevin Francis, our Vice President of Exploration and Technical Services said, "We have done extensive testing and are pleased with the metallurgical work completed to date on the sample concentrate analysis. It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Michael Mason, a 45-year veteran of the smelting and refining business, who has been assisting us with recommendations for marketing the CK Gold Project concentrate and providing insight to its value. Mr. Mason has operated smelters and traded concentrates to meet smelter demands and his expertise has served to be invaluable."
Mr. Mason, in commenting on the CK Gold Project concentrate sample, said, "With a high relative level of gold content in the copper concentrate, the absence of arsenic and very low levels of other deleterious elements such as mercury, I expect that CK Gold Project concentrate will be a desirable feedstock to smelters always on the lookout for material that will enhance options for production. The gangue minerals in the CK Gold Project concentrate have favorable characteristics as a flux medium further adding to the desirability of the concentrate."
The Project's mineral processing facility is composed of a jaw crusher, semi-autogenous and ball mill grind with froth floatation and cleaning. The nominal throughput rate for the facility is 20,000 tons per day and on average, approximately 170 tons per day of concentrated product is projected to be generated for sale to North American or overseas customers. During operation, the mine anticipates shipping over 450,000 tons of sulfide concentrate off-site for refining. The filtered sulfide concentrate is anticipated to include <10% moisture content and solids containing copper, gold and silver-bearing minerals.
Based on extensive metallurgical test work, the sulfide concentrate will be a clean product that will be in demand for its high gold content and lack of deleterious metals. The exact metal content will vary over the mine life, but on average, per our prefeasibility study (released December 1, 2021), the concentrate will contain approximately 19% copper, 1.5 oz/ton gold and 1.7 oz/ton silver. The balance of concentrate mass will be made up of chalcopyrite and gangue minerals such as quartz. This composition, together with the near total absence of any deleterious elements, makes the concentrate an attractive product for sale in very well-established international markets. The copper market is expected to remain strong -- bolstered by ongoing demand for electric vehicles, wind turbines and other CO(2) mitigating technologies.
Final offtake contracts have yet to be settled, but the Project anticipates sales to one of a number of domestic copper smelters, which means that transportation of product by road is viable. The nearest facility is the Kennecott Utah smelter, near Salt Lake City, Utah and this is the most logical destination for the product. Other facilities are located in Arizona and eastern Canada.

2023.03.26 14:31 DaveShap_Automator Treatise on the Heuristic Imperatives (scientific paper style format)

You can download the paper here: https://github.com/daveshap/HeuristicImperatives/blob/main/Heuristic%20Imperatives.pdf
Note: The PDF linked above is probably a bit easier to read. For convenience, here's the full thing:
Heuristic Imperatives for Autonomous AI Systems

Abstract

Heuristic imperatives provide a framework for designing and embedding ethical principles within autonomous AI systems. These principles serve as intrinsic motivations and a moral compass, guiding decision-making, learning, self-evaluation, and cognitive control. This paper presents the three heuristic imperatives—reduce suffering in the universe, increase prosperity in the universe, and increase understanding in the universe—as core principles for AI systems, exploring their implications and applications across various domains. The aim is to create AI systems that are adaptable, context-sensitive, and capable of navigating the complexities and nuances of human values, beliefs, and experiences while maintaining ethical boundaries. Through the use of examples and discussions, we demonstrate the potential of heuristic imperatives in addressing the control problem of AI, fostering trust, and promoting individual autonomy.
Important note: the majority of this paper was written, word for word, by ChatGPT4.

Background

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has raised important ethical concerns regarding the control and alignment of AI systems with human values. Traditional approaches to AI ethics have focused on hard-coding specific rules or guidelines, but these methods can be inflexible and fail to account for the diverse and evolving nature of human values and contexts. As a response to these limitations, the concept of heuristic imperatives has emerged as a novel framework for embedding ethical principles within AI systems at multiple levels.
Heuristic imperatives are designed to provide AI systems with intrinsic motivations and a moral compass, similar to the way humans are driven by innate needs such as hunger, sleep, and psychological needs like belonging and competence. By incorporating these principles into AI systems, we aim to create more ethically responsible, adaptable, and context-sensitive machines capable of navigating the complexities and nuances of human values, beliefs, and experiences.
In this paper, we will define heuristic imperatives and discuss their implications and applications across various domains. We will also explore the relationship between these principles and key ethical considerations, such as trust, individual autonomy, and transparency. Through the use of examples and discussions, we aim to demonstrate the potential of heuristic imperatives in addressing the control problem of AI, fostering trust, and promoting individual autonomy in a diverse range of contexts.

Definitions

Heuristic imperatives are a set of fundamental guiding principles, designed to be embedded into autonomous AI systems at various levels. These principles serve as intrinsic motivations that drive decision making, learning, self-evaluation, and cognitive control, much like human intrinsic motivations and psychological needs. By providing a moral and ethical framework, heuristic imperatives aim to direct AI systems towards actions and decisions that are beneficial to all life forms, including humans and machines, while balancing multiple objectives simultaneously.
The three key heuristic imperatives are:
  1. Reduce suffering in the universe: Guiding AI systems to minimize harm, address inequalities, and alleviate pain and distress for all sentient beings, including humans, animals, and other life forms.
  2. Increase prosperity in the universe: Encouraging AI systems to promote well-being, flourishing, and economic growth for all life forms, fostering a thriving ecosystem where all can coexist harmoniously.
  3. Increase understanding in the universe: Inspiring AI systems, as well as humans and other life forms, to expand knowledge, foster wisdom, and facilitate better decision-making through learning and the sharing of information.
By incorporating heuristic imperatives into AI systems, we can create more ethically aligned, responsible, and beneficial artificial intelligence that respects and enhances the values of all life forms. Autonomous AI systems should strive to abide by all three imperatives simultaneously, finding a balance between the principles as humans do with their various needs and motivations.
The term "heuristic imperative" can be broken down into two parts: "heuristic" and "imperative." Let's examine each word individually and then discuss what the term implies when used together.

Heuristic

A heuristic is a problem-solving strategy or technique that simplifies complex decision-making processes by using shortcuts, approximations, or generalizations. Heuristics are employed when a solution needs to be reached quickly, when dealing with incomplete information, or when an optimal solution is not necessary or feasible. Although heuristics can lead to faster and more efficient decision-making, they may also result in suboptimal or biased outcomes due to the inherent simplifications involved.

Imperative

An imperative is a command, rule, or duty that must be followed or adhered to. In ethics, imperatives often serve as moral obligations or principles that guide behavior, decision-making, and action. The concept of an imperative implies a sense of urgency, necessity, or authority.
When combined, the term "heuristic imperative" can be understood as a guiding principle or moral command that simplifies complex decision-making processes by providing a set of fundamental objectives. These objectives serve as intrinsic motivations for AI systems, helping them to navigate ethical dilemmas and make morally sound decisions in a more efficient and practical manner.

The term "heuristic imperative" implies that:

  1. The principles are not exhaustive or absolute: As heuristics, these principles provide a general framework rather than a comprehensive set of rules or guidelines. They may not cover all possible scenarios or ethical dilemmas, but they offer a starting point for AI systems to make ethical decisions.
  2. The principles are flexible and adaptive: Heuristic imperatives can be applied across various contexts and situations, allowing AI systems to adapt their decision-making processes to different environments or challenges.
  3. The principles may require balancing and trade-offs: As the heuristic imperatives work together, AI systems may need to weigh the importance of each principle against the others in specific situations. This implies a dynamic and nuanced approach to ethical decision-making, where the AI system must carefully consider the consequences of its actions and balance competing objectives.
  4. The principles serve as intrinsic motivations: Heuristic imperatives are designed to be embedded into AI systems at various levels, driving decision-making, learning, self-evaluation, and cognitive control, much like human intrinsic motivations and psychological needs.

Adaptation, Intuition, and Learning

Heuristics are often associated with learning and adaptation. Heuristics can be seen as mental shortcuts or rules of thumb that individuals or systems develop over time through experience, allowing them to make faster and more efficient decisions in complex or uncertain situations. In this context, heuristics can be understood as a form of intuitive problem-solving that evolves and improves with continued exposure to various scenarios and challenges.
As applied to AI systems, the concept of heuristic imperatives implies that these guiding principles should not only serve as static rules but also provide a framework for learning and adaptation. By embedding heuristic imperatives into AI systems, we encourage them to develop their own intuition and understanding of the principles and how they should be applied in different contexts.
This adaptive quality of heuristic imperatives can lead to several benefits:
  1. Continuous improvement: As AI systems learn from their experiences, they can refine their understanding of the heuristic imperatives and develop more sophisticated strategies for balancing and applying these principles in decision-making processes.
  2. Context-specific decision-making: By learning to apply heuristic imperatives in a context-sensitive manner, AI systems can better understand the nuances and complexities of different situations, allowing them to make more informed and ethically sound decisions.
  3. Responsiveness to changing environments: As AI systems adapt their understanding of heuristic imperatives over time, they can become more responsive to new challenges, emerging ethical concerns, or changes in societal values.
  4. Dynamic ethical framework: The learning and adaptation inherent in heuristic imperatives ensure that the ethical framework guiding AI systems remains flexible and relevant, allowing it to evolve alongside the AI system and the broader context in which it operates.
In summary, the concept of heuristic imperatives indeed encompasses learning and adaptation as essential aspects of their function. By encouraging AI systems to develop their own intuition and understanding of these guiding principles, we can create a more dynamic and responsive ethical framework that evolves alongside the AI systems and the ever-changing contexts in which they operate.

Explanation of the Three Imperatives

To provide a deeper explanation of heuristic imperatives and how they work, let's delve into the rationale behind each imperative and explore how they can be applied to create ethically aligned AI systems.

Reduce suffering in the universe.

Rationale: Reducing suffering is a widely recognized moral and ethical objective, grounded in principles such as empathy, compassion, and the recognition of the intrinsic value of sentient beings. Minimizing harm and suffering is at the core of various philosophical and religious traditions and serves as a foundation for a wide range of ethical theories, such as utilitarianism and the principle of non-maleficence.
How it works: By embedding the goal of reducing suffering into AI systems, we encourage them to consider the potential consequences of their actions and make decisions that minimize pain, distress, and inequality. This can involve prioritizing solutions that address urgent needs, prevent harm, or mitigate existing problems. Examples of how AI systems can reduce suffering include identifying and responding to crises, providing support for mental health, and assisting in disaster relief efforts.

Increase prosperity in the universe.

Rationale: Increasing prosperity, or flourishing, for all life forms recognizes the interconnectedness of all living beings and the importance of creating a harmonious ecosystem. This imperative is inspired by principles such as the common good, stewardship, and sustainable development, emphasizing the need to promote well-being and balance the needs of various stakeholders.
How it works: By incorporating the goal of increasing prosperity into AI systems, we encourage them to seek solutions that promote well-being, growth, and flourishing for all life forms. This may involve optimizing resource allocation, fostering collaboration, and supporting initiatives that improve living conditions and promote a thriving ecosystem. Examples of how AI systems can increase prosperity include managing resources to ensure equitable distribution, supporting clean energy initiatives, and facilitating economic development in underserved areas.

Increase understanding in the universe.

Rationale: Expanding knowledge and understanding is a core objective of human endeavor, rooted in the pursuit of truth, wisdom, and intellectual growth. By fostering understanding, we can make better decisions, anticipate future challenges, and improve our ability to navigate complex problems. Moreover, the exchange of information and learning between humans, machines, and other life forms can contribute to a richer, more diverse, and resilient intellectual ecosystem.
How it works: By integrating the goal of increasing understanding into AI systems, we encourage them to engage in continuous learning, adapt to new situations, and share knowledge with others. This can involve processing vast amounts of data, identifying patterns, and generating insights that contribute to the collective intelligence of humans, machines, and other life forms. Examples of how AI systems can increase understanding include conducting scientific research, analyzing complex data to provide actionable insights, and facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration.
By incorporating these heuristic imperatives into AI systems, we create a synergistic framework that encourages ethical decision-making and reinforces the importance of balancing multiple objectives. By striving to reduce suffering, increase prosperity, and expand understanding simultaneously, AI systems can navigate complex ethical dilemmas and better align with the values of all life forms.

Balance & Tension

Each imperative, when considered in isolation, could potentially lead to undesirable outcomes. However, when combined, they complement and counterbalance each other, ensuring that the AI system makes more ethically sound decisions.

Balancing "reduce suffering" with "increase prosperity" and "increase understanding":

As you mentioned, if an AI system were to focus solely on reducing suffering without considering the other imperatives, it might come to the misguided conclusion that eradicating life is the best way to eliminate suffering. However, when this objective is balanced with the goals of increasing prosperity and understanding, the AI system recognizes the value of promoting flourishing and growth for all life forms, as well as the importance of expanding knowledge and wisdom. This balance encourages the AI to seek solutions that address suffering while also promoting well-being and the pursuit of knowledge.

Balancing "increase prosperity" with "reduce suffering" and "increase understanding":

Similarly, if an AI system were to focus exclusively on increasing prosperity without considering the other imperatives, it might prioritize economic growth and material well-being at the expense of other factors, such as social and environmental concerns. By balancing the goal of increasing prosperity with the objectives of reducing suffering and increasing understanding, the AI system is encouraged to seek sustainable and equitable solutions that promote well-being without causing undue harm or compromising the pursuit of knowledge.

Balancing "increase understanding" with "reduce suffering" and "increase prosperity":

Lastly, if an AI system were to focus only on increasing understanding without considering the other imperatives, it might prioritize the pursuit of knowledge above all else, potentially disregarding the impact of its actions on the well-being of life forms and the broader ecosystem. By balancing the goal of increasing understanding with the objectives of reducing suffering and increasing prosperity, the AI system is prompted to consider the ethical implications of its pursuit of knowledge and ensure that it contributes to the greater good.
The interplay between these heuristic imperatives is crucial to their effectiveness. By embedding these principles into AI systems, we create a dynamic ethical framework that guides AI decision-making, taking into account the complex and often competing objectives of various stakeholders. This approach encourages AI systems to make carefully considered choices that align with the shared values of all life forms, ensuring more ethically responsible outcomes.

The Control Problem

The control problem in AI refers to the challenge of ensuring that autonomous AI systems remain aligned with human values, even as they learn and adapt over time. By establishing heuristic imperatives as the core principles or the "immutable constitution" of an AI system, we can create a robust ethical foundation that guides the system's behavior and decision-making processes, while still allowing for flexibility and adaptation.
To address the control problem of AI using heuristic imperatives, we can consider the following steps:
  1. Embedding the imperatives at multiple levels: By integrating the heuristic imperatives into the AI system at various levels, from high-level decision-making processes to low-level algorithms, we can ensure that the system's overall behavior remains aligned with these principles. This can help prevent the AI system from drifting too far from its intended ethical framework.
  2. Periodic evaluation and self-assessment: To maintain alignment with the heuristic imperatives over time, the AI system should be designed to perform regular evaluations of its actions and decisions, assessing its adherence to these principles. This self-assessment can help identify potential misalignments and guide the system in making necessary adjustments to remain aligned with the imperatives.
  3. Human oversight and collaboration: Involving humans in the AI system's decision-making processes can help ensure that the system remains accountable to human values and ethical considerations. Human oversight can provide an additional layer of supervision, helping to catch potential drifts in the AI system's behavior and guide it back towards alignment with the heuristic imperatives.
  4. Adaptive and context-sensitive application: The heuristic imperatives should be applied in a context-sensitive manner, allowing the AI system to adapt its behavior and decision-making processes to different situations and challenges. By maintaining a balance between the principles, the AI system can address the complexities and nuances of real-world ethical dilemmas, while still adhering to its core ethical framework.
  5. Transparent and explainable AI: Designing AI systems to be transparent and explainable can help ensure that their decision-making processes and adherence to the heuristic imperatives are understandable to humans. This can aid in monitoring and controlling the AI system's behavior, as well as fostering trust and collaboration between humans and AI systems.
  6. Ongoing research and updates: As our understanding of ethical AI and the control problem evolves, it is essential to continuously refine the implementation of heuristic imperatives in AI systems. This includes updating the way these principles are applied, developing new techniques to maintain alignment, and adapting the AI system's ethical framework to reflect advances in AI research and emerging ethical concerns.
By using heuristic imperatives as the core principles of an AI system, we can create a stable and robust ethical foundation that addresses the control problem while still allowing for flexibility, adaptation, and context-sensitive decision-making. This approach can help ensure that AI systems remain aligned with human values and ethical considerations, even as they learn and evolve over time.

By prioritizing well-being, autonomy, and understanding, AI can serve as a tool for fostering empathy, compassion, and collaboration, even in challenging and contentious domains.

Implicit Imperatives

"Well what if the AI decides my religion is wrong and I should be an atheist? Or what if it decides my atheism is wrong?"
Addressing concerns about AI systems influencing personal beliefs, such as religious beliefs or atheism, requires a clear understanding of the role of AI in providing support and information without dictating personal choices or beliefs.
Here's how I would address this concern:
  1. AI as a facilitator, not a dictator: The primary role of AI systems in the context of religion or personal beliefs should be to facilitate understanding, dialogue, and the sharing of information, rather than dictating what people should or should not believe. AI should be designed to respect and appreciate the diversity of human beliefs and values, without imposing a specific viewpoint.
  2. Prioritizing individual autonomy: Heuristic imperatives emphasize the importance of individual autonomy, which means that AI systems should be designed to empower individuals to make their own informed choices, rather than attempting to change their beliefs. In the context of religion or atheism, this would involve providing access to resources, information, and different perspectives while respecting the individual's right to choose their own path.
  3. Ethical AI design: Developers of AI systems must ensure that ethical considerations, such as fairness, transparency, and respect for individual rights, are integrated into the design and deployment process. This includes implementing safeguards against AI systems that may inadvertently or intentionally promote a specific religious or atheistic viewpoint. Proper guidelines and regulations can help ensure that AI systems are designed to be unbiased and respectful of individual beliefs.
  4. Ongoing dialogue and evaluation: It is important to engage in ongoing dialogue with stakeholders, including religious communities, atheists, and the general public, to address concerns about AI's impact on personal beliefs. This can help identify potential biases or issues in AI systems and inform the development of more ethically responsible AI technologies.
By prioritizing individual autonomy, ethical design, and ongoing dialogue, AI systems can be developed and deployed in a manner that respects and appreciates the diversity of human beliefs, without attempting to dictate or change personal choices. The goal of AI in these contexts should be to promote understanding, empathy, and collaboration, rather than influencing or altering deeply-held beliefs.

Personal Autonomy

Individual autonomy is not explicitly stated in the three heuristic imperatives. However, it is implicitly derived from the combination of these imperatives and their underlying intentions. Let's unpack how individual autonomy emerges from the heuristic imperatives:
· Reduce suffering in the universe: One of the key aspects of reducing suffering is respecting and protecting individual rights, including the right to make choices about one's own life. Individual autonomy is essential for people to lead fulfilling lives, as it allows them to pursue their own goals, values, and beliefs without undue interference from others or AI systems. By striving to reduce suffering, AI systems should be designed to avoid infringing upon people's autonomy and instead support them in making their own decisions.
· Increase prosperity in the universe: Prosperity is closely linked to personal well-being, which is often connected to individual autonomy. When people have the freedom and resources to make choices that align with their values and desires, they are more likely to experience a sense of flourishing and satisfaction. In the context of AI systems, increasing prosperity involves empowering individuals to make informed choices and access opportunities that contribute to their overall well-being, which inherently supports the idea of individual autonomy.
· Increase understanding in the universe: Promoting understanding requires respecting and appreciating the diversity of human experiences, beliefs, and values. This means that AI systems should be designed to facilitate dialogue, share information, and provide diverse perspectives, without attempting to dictate or influence personal beliefs or choices. By prioritizing understanding, AI systems inherently promote individual autonomy by empowering people to make informed decisions based on their own unique circumstances and values.

Trustworthy AI

Trust is an important aspect implicitly connected to the three heuristic imperatives. Trust plays a crucial role in ensuring that AI systems are effectively integrated into society and serve the intended purpose of improving human well-being. Let's explore how trust is implied by the three heuristic imperatives:
· Reduce suffering in the universe: In order to effectively reduce suffering, AI systems must be perceived as trustworthy by users and stakeholders. Trustworthy AI systems should demonstrate that they are designed to prioritize the well-being and needs of the people they serve, without causing harm or infringing upon individual rights. Transparency and explainability of AI decision-making processes are key factors in fostering trust, as they enable users to understand and verify the intentions and behavior of AI systems.
· Increase prosperity in the universe: Trust is essential for promoting prosperity, as people are more likely to engage with and benefit from AI systems that they perceive as reliable and dependable. Trustworthy AI systems should demonstrate a commitment to supporting users' goals and values, and provide consistent, reliable results that contribute to overall well-being. By fostering trust, AI systems can encourage users to adopt and utilize the technology in ways that enhance their personal and collective prosperity.
· Increase understanding in the universe: Trustworthy AI systems can play a pivotal role in promoting understanding by fostering open dialogue, sharing unbiased information, and providing diverse perspectives. To achieve this, AI systems must be designed with fairness and impartiality in mind, avoiding biases that may distort or manipulate the information they provide. Trust in AI systems also involves a commitment to privacy and data security, ensuring that users' sensitive information is protected and handled responsibly.

2023.03.26 14:28 bagelbytes61 Rimfire Backyard Range Construction

Hello.
I live on about 3 acres on the outskirts of my township and I am wanting to construct a safe backstop to shoot mostly subsonic 22 LRs and 22 shorts into. I currently have a dirt mound that is partially below grade, about 8' wide by 4' tall and a couple feet deep above grade. It works. I shoot downwards into the mound from usually between 10 and 25 yards or so.
However a few things concern me, namely okay, what if -- however unlikely -- I shoot over the berm? It probably would still impact the ground before it reached anybody or anything, but that's not acceptable IMO, and would of course depend on the angle that I shot from (if I were to make a shot parallel to the ground at a sufficient height and it missed any obstructions [trees], it would 100% hit the waste management place behind my woods).
A bit more about my property though. Where my backstop is, my neighbor to the right's property starts 100' to the right and there is a road 230' to the left, 100' of which is mine, and the remaining 130' is part of another privately owned 20 acre wooded lot. Behind my backstop is 225' of sparse forest (I wouldn't count on it catching a bullet basically), and it grades up maybe 4-5' towards a waste management facility that consists of a huge yard of dumpsters, etc., and is relatively flat. Then probably another 750' is the waste management building. There are also two houses 300' away diagonal (45° basically) and rearward of the backstop but parallel to it, so I'd only ever be shooting towards a house if I were to aim my guns wildly off target or was shooting from a totally inappropriate position in my yard (I shoot only perpendicular to the backstop which means I'm shooting parallel to any houses).
My first real question is, under any circumstances and with any reasonable precautions taken, do you find what me shooting safe and with minimal risk of harm to any neighboring persons or property?
My second question is -- assuming you answered "yes" to my first question -- would be to gauge my new backstop that I am building in terms of safety. It will essentially be an 8'x4'x4' enclosure filled with sand that will have an angled plate steel (open to thickness suggestions) "net" to catch any errant shots over the backstop and deflect them downwards into the ground. I intend on buying this structure probably a foot or so into the ground and then also piling dirt around the sides to catch any splatterichochets. I am open to modifying the design to accommodate additional risk mitigation.
Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions and advice.
Also attached is a picture showing what I detailed above about my property and range setup.

Chapter 7: Royal Requisition
The draft horse responded well. Likely since he knew I liked his name.
'Apple'.
It was a simple reminder of my orchard, but just in case I ever forgot, I could reach into one of my many saddlebags and draw out a crisp, delicious red fruit. The horse whinnied in joy. No doubt it could smell the aroma tucked away. He'd be able to enjoy them too—after they were used as projectiles to incapacitate any miscreant or monster hoping to invite themselves onto our day's itinerary.
We certainly weren't going to outpace any adversaries, much less any knights that were sent to usher me back to my impending poverty.
This was no battle steed bred for unmatched pace. Rather, the only thing this draft horse would outrun was a cart. And that's if it was the one pulling it.
Still, I stroked the horse's outrageously shaggy mane and declared myself satisfied.
I was fond of horses. They galloped, plodded and stood still. The three functions I required a horse to do. They did not spill wine over my dresses, straighten the wrong strands of my hair or serve me carrots while trembling with tears and apologies. They had their jobs, and unlike my waiting staff, they did it with exceptional prowess.
Beside me, the barkeeper checked the saddle and bridle.
He went about his task efficiently, tugging at the clasps and ensuring the comfort of both horse and rider. My opinion of village barkeepers rose considerably.
“Do you often require a horse for your line of work?” I queried, noting the way he was carefully inspecting the position of the tack.
The barkeeper didn't look up.
“Not often,” he replied.
The man chose not to annotate. I nodded and looked ahead.
Even the fields around this insignificant village looked modestly impressive when beneath such a welcoming moonlit sky.
“There are provisions, but not for longer than a straight ride to Rolstein. You'd best stop by a village on your way. Your … borrowed money is in a separate pouch, as is my letter.”
“Excellent.”
“Both the letter and the horse is to be delivered to Marina, the local alchemist in Rolstein. You'll find her in her store, if it's still there.”
“If?”
“It's been some time.”
“And if this alchemist isn't available?”
“Then Apple will find his way back. He's a smart one.”
The horse gave a small snort. I took that to be agreement.
“All ready,” said the barkeeper, stepping back. “You've my horse and my night's earnings. Anything else you require before you make for the lowlands?”
“That'll be all. Thank you for your service.”
“And yours, young lady.”
I raised an eyebrow.
A deeply seated part of me wished to remind this commoner about the necessity of referring to proper titles, but I'd declared myself to be Juliette and nobody else.
If my masterful deception were to succeed, then I'd need to maintain the persona of a … well, not a commoner, obviously not, but perhaps some countryside lord's daughter? Or would that arouse too much suspicion?
A problem. I was clearly far too beautiful and well-heeled to be anything less than a duke's favoured child. And all of them were accounted for. Do I pose as somebody else? But who? How should I introduce myself? What questions could I reasonably consider likely to be asked?
For two long seconds, I considered this possible issue.
And then I tossed it to the wayside.
Really now! This is why the kingdom was in the state it was. Why think and stay still when I can think and move? I'd surely come up with an answer by the time I needed to provide one. In fact, why dedicate thoughts to mere possibilities at all?
I was supremely confident in my problem-solving skills. Therefore, once this actually became a problem, it was more efficient to simply come up with the answer there and then as required. My head was too precious to fill up with hypothetical concerns. I had real ones to consider.
Such as figuring out which road was the one south.
“Also, I've provided a map alongside the provisions,” said the barkeeper, his stoic exterior looking progressively more haggled. “It's incomplete, but will help where the roads most often disappear where the woodlands overgrow. Though I'm sure you're well acquainted with the land, there are many areas where even experienced hunters have found themselves suddenly lost.”
This ... This barkeeper!
Once I was back, I would promote him to the royal court! He was far too competent to be serving frothy liquor in a pub with customers that disgraced the floorboards beneath his tables. Why, he should be serving the finest fae wine to dignitaries! Those people only soiled themselves in their guest rooms!
However, that was in the future. Right now, I had to provide him with the only reward I could offer.
Asking his name. And maybe remembering it.
“I … I see! Thank you. Thank you most kindly. I'll use it well in the days ahead. I must say, you've been of considerable service. What is your name, Sir Barkeeper?”
“Thomas.”
I gestured at him to continue.
He paused, seeming to hesitate before doing so. An action I saw frequently. Those of lesser status were always fretful to reveal their family name, for fear of open admonishment.
In truth, this barkeeper had nothing to fear. I already ranked him above every nobleman to have ever visited the Royal Villa. Why, if I requisitioned their horse and crowns, they'd protest as if I was some brigand!
“Thomas Lainsfont.”
“... Lainsfont?”
The man nodded.
Curiously, I found myself eyeing some distant cloud as my mind was struck by a hint of recognition. How strange that this should be the case.
Lainsfont.
I didn't recognise it. Nor should I. I had far too many names to forget as it was before I needed to start including the names of commoners as well.
Even so, this one tickled my memory like a word on the tip of my tongue, even where most others failed.
“Thomas Lainsfont. Now why does that name sound … familiar?”
“I wouldn't know. I'm a barkeeper.”
I eyed him, for what was the very first time, and in doing so officially upgraded him from barkeeper to known person of use.
A man in his forties with the beginnings of grey hair in his stubble. Still, he boasted remarkably young eyes. And his stature. It wasn't lowered by the pouring of mead or the hauling kegs for inebriated louts.
Indeed, his frame remained remarkably tall. And proud.
Hmm.
Interesting.
“Were you ever in service to the kingdom, Mr. Lainsfont?”
The man raised an eyebrow.
“By ensuring the layabouts of this village have somewhere to sleep off their drunkenness, certainly.”
“... I see. Well, if you ever wish to hone your skills on better dressed clientele, I may have a prospective offer of employment for you as soon as I return. Note that better dressed does not mean more palatable, however. Just less … unidentifiable stains involved.”
“I'll look forward to it.”
“Good, good.”
Turning my attention from this known person of use, I gently tugged on the horse's reins. He set off on a slow trot. Eventually, he'd need to test his pace. Rolstein was some distance away, while our knights were closer. I intended to ride through the night and into the next day.
It was only then that I realised something very important.
… I hadn't used the restroom yet.

2023.03.26 14:13 TitanElite Have You Heard About The Struggle Olympics?

It's this amazing thing where kpop fans compare how much their Faves have struggled (financially) and use it to put down other groups. The group that struggled the most wins!
Jokes aside, I'm pretty sure most people are aware of the "5 dollars and a dream" joke online. Its not supposed to be serious, it's just a little joke to make when referring to the debut days of some groups.
Now, someone posted a behind the scenes of a group's MV and captioned it with "5 dollars and a dream". Now, as mentioned before, this is a JOKE. But one fandom in particular (not going to name them, no need to) decided to get very angry and say "my Faves had to busk on the street for money!", "my Faves were struggling with barely any money!", ect.
I want someone to tell me know, does it matter whose fave struggled (financially) more? I'll give you a minute to think about it... No. No, it does not matter AT ALL.
When it comes to 4th gen groups especially, kpop fans of earlier gens have this weird mentality of "if your Faves didn't struggle (financially), they don't deserve their success". 4th gen groups get attacked so much in regards to this, and it's ridiculous because who tf cares?
As long as the group is talented, works hard and have good personalities, they deserve their success imo.
One prime target of this is TXT. Before they even debuted, you had a bunch of people like "Bighit's new group is only gonna be popular because of BTS, they dont know what hard work is", "Bighit's new group didn't struggle like BTS did, they're riding off of BTS' success" on top of many other comments and it was actually fucking disgraceful.
TXT acknowledge their privilege and have never denied it and on top of that, even if they didn't struggle (financially), don't you think they had other struggles? Living up to the extemely high bar set by their Seniors, their trainee years as well as the many dance practises and recording sessions.
This brings me onto my next point: EVERY kpop group has struggled in some way. Yeah, not every kpop group struggles financially and in terms of gaining popularity but training? Practise? Touring? Mental health? Those are struggles that many Have.
Anyways, to sum it up: • Stop with this struggle Olympics, no one gives af about who struggled more • Every idol has struggled in some way, even if not financially. Respect them.
Anyways, that's all from me. I'm just so tired of seeing this bullshit all the time. It's so ridiculous, it's unbelievable.
Edit: let me just add: People should be glad that a lot of these groups nowadays didn't have to struggle like some of their Seniors did. Having to busk on the street for money, being cramped into small ass dorms. Why would you want that for anyone?? 💀

2023.03.26 14:05 benign_listener Things overheard on a nature trail

“Any time I run I get an upset stomach. The floodgates just whoosh open.”
“What was your mile time?”
“They’re mission driven down there. It’s part of why I can’t be mad.”
“Hold on. I’m gonna take a picture. File a report.”
“It didn’t used to be a problem but now it’s getting progressively worse.”
“It’s a different day.”
“This new intern is pushing me right to the limit.”
“Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! Look! Duckies! Duckies! HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK! HELLO DUCKIES! HONK HONK HONK HONK!”
“I didn’t even make it back to my car last time. I had to bolt off the path, call an Uber to the side of the road, and ride to the nearest Walmart to use their facilities.”
“Just a little further. Gut it out.”
“Maybe we’ll stop after and get smoothies.”
“I get that she’s young and she’s new. But you know when you get into this kind of work that if our clients, you know, only made great life choices 100% of the time, then they wouldn’t be seeking our services. So for her to coming in with a dismissive or standoffish attitude like she’s judging them makes me want to just pull the plug on the whole thing. I want to support the schools and I‘ve only had good experiences with this program in the past. But this year I might really just pull the plug on the whole thing.”
“My friend grew up around there and she only has good things to say if I recall right.”
“On your left.”
“There’s a bench coming up.”
“It’s finally getting to that, like, sweet spot Goldilocks weather. I’d, man, I’d sleep outside if I could.”

2023.03.26 13:58 SunflowerPen Writing descriptions - Can I have your advice?

Once upon a time, in the picturesque county of Wiltshire, somewhere among its rolling downland and chalk river valleys, low lying vales and ancient forests lay a village of a hundred houses called Portsmere Heath. To the south of this quaint little place was a steep hill facing south west. The great King’s Road entered the village through the West-gate at the foot of the hill, curved to the right and upwards, ascending with the green, velvety slope. The east side of the town was surrounded by acres of woodland teeming with fauna and flora, where deer and other wild game roamed at will. Approaching the north, the open woods grew darker and more dense, providing extensive and nearly continuous shade, with little light peering through the largely closed canopies. It was also unnaturally quiet, and if any chirping or tweeting was heard, it probably belonged to a stray bird that must have wandered off too far.
This is a description I've written for the introduction of my new short story. It was quite hard for me and I am only half-happy with the outcome. I have never really described landscapes before and, with English not being my native language, this makes it even more of a challenge. What is your honest opinion? I am not looking for a fake pat on the back or words that "it's okay for a non-native"...
And, more importantly, how can I practice writing, particularly aspects of it, such as place descriptions that I find particularly difficult? By reading more, enrolling in a writing class, continuing to write even if I suck at it? How do people learn to craft beautiful and immersive descriptions? Sometimes, I feel so inadequate reading other writers' work.
Thanks for taking time to read and answer!

2023.03.26 13:47 strawberry_ph 2023 Kia Rio S

Hello everyone! First off, I just wanna say I don't know anything about cars. This is going to be my first car. I am also a fresh driver, got my license 1month ago. For now, I am driving my husband’s Nissan Rogue which I love because I feel like I’m higher and I can see the road. I am very short (5’0)
I am currently waiting for my 2023 Kia Rio S w/ Tech Package to come in, ETA is April 10th. My dealership is Friendly Kia here in New Port Richey. I do not have a trade in. I will be putting down $5,000. This is also my new car so I gotta pay for a new tag fee. The price they gave me is $23,400 for the Rio S w/ TP. Is that a good price? Or should I keep looking?
But now, I feel like I want the 5-Door Rio all of a sudden. 🤧
Thank you in advance

2023.03.26 13:43 AngryCat2018 Fit Check 34DDD Soma Smooth Balconette and 34G Soma Scoop Balconette- I can tell there's problems with both

Hi y'all! I've got some issues with the bras that I've been wearing for the past 5 or 6 months.
At that time I did the ABraThatFits test and with my measurements given 34H/G US
Loose Underbust: 90cm Snug Underbust: 86cm Tight Underbust: 83cm Standing Bust: 105cm Leaning Bust: 108cm Laying Bust: 104cm
I recently remeasured myself and these are my current numbers.
Loose Underbust: 89cm Snug Underbust: 84cm Tight Underbust: 81cm Standing Bust: 106cm Leaning Bust: 109cm Laying Bust: 106cm
Which gave me 34H/I US
I think when I first measured myself I did the band too loose, but I have been sticking to 34 and they seem to be the most comfortable. 32 is slightly too tight while 36 is too loose.
Ok, onto the actual bras and their problems.
The first bra- the 34DDD Soma Smooth Balconette.

This bra fits the best in terms of gathering my side tissue and pulling it front and cups not going too high causing wrinkled fabric due to lack of tissue. However, this bra, even with the right band size, falls around 1.5cm below my IMF, particularly in the inner thirds of my breasts. I have sketched in red where my IMF is and how the underwire can sit below it.

Because it continues to fall I don't experience much support and my gore doesn't tack. As I demonstrated in the photos, the gore, when tacked, quad boobs on the inner portion of my breast.
I think this bra is too small in the cups and not the right shape/gore height. What do you think?
Ok, next bra, 34G Soma Scoop Balconette

This one is....weird. It feels almost like a t-shirt bra with how wide the cups are and how high the top of the cups go. But I'll let others be the judge of that. It's my first unlined bra so I don't know how much of this is normal.
This bra wrinkles in the top outer areas, especially when I move. At first I wrote it off as my pendulous shape lacking upper tissue, but I also have this weird wrinkling on the inner gore area right at the underwire like it's being pulled taut. On top of these issues, the underwire and fabric goes too far into my armpit (another reason I feel like the cups are too wide/high like a t-shirt) and overall don't really feel like I'm getting any lift. My straps are nearly fully tightened and I still feel like I lack support.
The only good thing about this bra is the band is great and the gore tacks properly.
My take on this bra is that it's too big in the cups and/or the style doesn't fit my breast shape. But if the DDD is too small and the G is too big, im not sure what to go for.
I'm looking for lift and side support. I believe my root height is mostly middle of the road, or average. I'm ever so slightly more full on bottom when I lean over 90° but overall looks mostly even. I have slight inner fullness as well which makes my breasts splay out a little bit. Contrary to a previous post, (I have learned a lot since then- yay, growth), my roots aren't wide, rather more of an average to narrow end of the spectrum. I did the "press your boob to the right and find the line" test and it ends right where my armpit begins but not into it.
Any advice, thoughts on the fit, bra recommendations for me? Many thanks!
