What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface.
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

- Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
- Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
- Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
- Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. This includes not harassing moderators of subreddits who have chosen not to take part: no one likes a missionary, a used-car salesman, or a flame warrior.

The USASA Region III Amateur Cup kicks off tonight in Plano, Texas. Ten teams will play three games over two days for a spot in Sunday's knockout rounds. The participants represent six states (five state associations and the National Premier Soccer League) and are as follows:
Group A
Points for standings are non-standard. A team gets six (6) points for winning. They also receive an additional point (1) for a shutout and one (1) point for each goal up to three goals. A draw is worth three (3) points & a loss is worth zero (0) points.
Tie breakers are: 1) Head-to-head, 2) Greatest goal differential (capped at a 3-goal differential), 3) Most goals scored (capped at 5 goals), 4) Penalty kick shootout. Tie breakers for the runner-up/wildcard spot are similar but replace the first tie-breaker with "Most points".

Yesterday morning I decided to donate a little money to St. Jude's Children Hospital. It's a great cause and after having been in a car accident I was lucky to walk away from last week, I decided to use some of the insurance money on a worthy cause. Maybe, just maybe, the good karma from that helped the Cats last night. I was raised Catholic and St. Jude is the patron saint of hope and impossible causes. He is also now the patron saint of Panthers hockey (same things right). Think about making a donation the day of game 4. You'll be doing lots of good either way.
Also, the founder of St. Jude's, Lebanese-American actor Danny Thomas was the co-founder of the Miami Dolphins with Lebanese-American businessman Joe Robbie.

I apologize for my english in advance, I'm not a native speaker.
I(26f) have an ex-boyfriend (37m) whom I dated ~7-6 years ago (i have a thing for older guys don't shame me pls), we had a great and warm relationships and ended everything on good terms. We meet each other occasionally once or twice a year and just talk about everything like friends. A year ago he got married to a woman around his age and they had a child 4 months ago. And I am in a long-term relationship with my boyfriend (but we haven't seen each other for almost a year).
We met with my ex-bf a week ago and talked about life and relationships. He told me that he is very sexually frustrated because his wife just doesn't want to have sex and is not interested in doing it at all (he suspects that she is asexual). She was like that for their whole relationship and although he is a person with a very high sexual drive he loved her in every other way and wanted to have a child with her. It almost feels like first and foremost he wanted to raise a child before he gets too old and she was a really really good person for that.
So, he told me about all that and how he constantly thinks about cheating on her. He also mentioned that he feels like they will divorce when their child will get older. I was really furious when I heard that and scolded him for his way of thinking, told him that he should discuss it with his wife, etc. I also told him that although it's tough for me to not be around my boyfriend for such a long time and I am horny almost all the time, I don't ever want to cheat on my boyfriend or be dishonest with him in any way. Cheating simply goes against my values and also seems like a tiresome and pointless thing to do.
Today ex-bf sent me a message where he says that because he and I have similar "needs" we can meet on a weekend, rent a house and maybe "discuss these needs".
I really don't know how to react. I searched for his wife's Instagram page and there are nice photos of them together, there is a post where she tells how much she loves him... She is generally a very beautiful and nice woman and I feel like she deserves a better man. I want to tell her about his attempt to cheat before he actually cheats but I don't know how to do it and I don't know if I should. They are both grown-up people that need to sort these things between each other. Plus, I really don't want to be involved in their stuff, I have my own life. But it also doesn't sits right with me to not do anything at all

The scale pricing for the API: $12,000 for 50 million API request. Apollo made 7 billion requests last month, which would put it at about 1.7 million dollars per month, or 20 million US dollars per year. Lots of big numbers, but for sheer cost comparison’s sake it is “only” $166 per month for the same number of requests from Imgur.
Effectively it means that Reddit is shutting down all third-party apps.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface.

What began with an open letter has progressed to a full on blackout of all participating subreddits after reddit demonstrated they were not interested in addressing our concerns with any meaningful action.
We learned that the API pricing changes would also have a profound impact on users who rely on the accessibility features found in third party apps that are severely lacking or missing entirely in the official reddit app. You can find more information about the impact in this thread from the /Blind subreddit.
On June 7th, reddit CEO Steve Huffman (spez) and several other reddit admins held a closed call with a select group of moderators to discuss the upcoming changes to the API pricing model. You can find the moderator's notes of this call over on /ModCoord. Reddit also provided their own notes of the call which you can see stickied in the comments of the same thread. (Reddit's notes were originally posted in PartnerCommunities which is a private subreddit for admins and mods to interact. Reddit gave permission for these notes to be shared publicly.)
There are a few takeaways from the call worth mentioning. Reddit did make a concession in exempting moderation tools/bots from the API changes. They have also promised to close the accessiblity gap in their own app, but provided no tangible examples or timelines as to how or when that might happen. Otherwise, they show absolutely no interest in budging on the ridiculous pricing scheme and seem content to watch every major third party application shut down.
There's another claim in the notes that bares further inspection: reddit claims that the lead developer of Apollo attempted to extort them for $10 million.

You can see that despite reddit apologizing multiple times for the apparent misunderstanding on the call, they still went ahead and posted their notes afterwards claiming he had "threatened" them. This is a deliberate act of deception designed to slander the developer and drive a wedge between users and third party developers.

Here me out before you raise your pitchforks:
I adore James and Bob, they are wonderful comedians and I have met both of them, absolute gentlemen.
However, I feel sometimes, especially on YouTube comment sections, the whole conversation still manages to revolve itself around these two comedians. It always ends up with comments such as: “Oh ____ is so funny, him and Bob Mortimer on a team together would be great.” Or “I love how James only spoke twice and both of those were Gold”.
I simply feel as if it is taking away from the efforts of the other panelists. Be a fan of Bob or James for all you like, I’m an adult and quite frankly I couldn’t care less. But allow other comedians and panelists to have a chance to shine. That’s my two pence.

However, I feel sometimes, especially on YouTube comment sections, the whole conversation still manages to revolve itself around these two comedians. It always ends up with comments such as: “Oh ____ is so funny, him and Bob Mortimer on a team together would be great.” Or “I love how James only spoke twice and both of those were Gold”.

- In the hypothetical original timeline, Sarah has a kid with someone who is not Kyle and names him John. This kid grows up to be a leader in the war and leads mankind to defeat SKYNET.
- The machines send back a terminator to try and prevent this by killing Sarah. This is what causes the branch in the timeline. Original Connor learns about the plan, and sends Kyle back to protect her. Kyle is not John's father at this point, and there is no photo.
- Kyle arrives in the past, without any photo, protects Sarah, falls in love and gets her pregnant (this would be the cause of the loop, but not technically the first iteration of the loop, depending on how you look at it). After their adventure, Sarah gets the photo. Now she raises John with all the knowledge she has, so this John also defeats the machines.
- SKYNET still sends a terminator back to try and kill her. Now though, this John is Kyle's son, and so a loop has started. This time there is the photo, as well as the rest of the elements of the loop, doomed to repeat endlessly.

This isn't to doubt your abilities, I think you're perfectly capable of defending yourself, but you don't have an Undaunted brand for thermal protection against a race known for fighting with fire, or any other covert protection. Nor are you an adept. You're immensely physically strong, far stronger than me even at your reduced size... but you're not a killer my dear... and I am."

Soldiers train to overcome their fear to accomplish significant things... but you my dear aren't a soldier."

"You need to master your fear just enough to flee smartly, summon help, barricade yourself, or as a last measure, fight. Which you did today. "I'm terribly sorry about the wait, police procedure is tedious, even for clear cases of self defense. David I'm told you have a bounty hunting license, so you'll be receiving some credits for their heads. Not extremely bad girls, save the boss, but bad enough to be worth some money. The local police are paying out a bonus for the living ones. That blue haired girl apparently won't shut up; she's rolling on her old boss so enthusiastically they had to bring a synth in to transcribe it all. It's going to be a busy couple of days for the capital district police force."
David nods. "Take half for yourself would you? I hardly need the credits and you did the lion's share of the dangerous work, I just had a little target practice."
Miri'Tok laughs. "Ah the sheer gall on your husband Ariane, a little bit of target practice he calls it. Some of the cleanest shooting I've seen in years with gangsters with rap sheets that combined stretch from here to orbit and it was just a bit of target practice! Hah!"

"You kept your head in a dangerous situation and didn't go to pieces like a great many women would have. This is a great deal of credit to your name. Even Apuk civilians, socialized to violence from birth, can go to pieces when real violence is forced upon them."

"More or less what I was saying dear, you did a splendid job getting us help. If things had gone a bit more poorly, it's help we would have direly needed too."

David raises an eyebrow and looks over at Ariane.
"You know, when you said you were going to show me how unsubtle you could be, I was expecting something a bit more... intimate shall we say."
"So let the knowledge that things can get even more forward make you wonder at what tonight holds when we get back to the Tear."
David chuckles, caught entirely off guard with the sexual aggression from the normally demure Ariane.

She's not wearing a crown, but apparently a lot of the battle princesses in service to the Imperial military skip the crowns outside of formal occasions, instead only going by their ranks."
Another eyebrow raised, a common thing when Ariane was in the mood to surprise David it seems. "Where did you learn all that? I haven't the foggiest about how to read Apuk decorations."
Ariane shrugs. "When I finished that book about your unit back on Earth, Eastern Approaches, I read a book or two on contemporary Apuk martial culture. I thought it might come in handy."
"So what does your reading tell you about Miri'Tok?"
"Well as she said she's an Apuk Imperial Marine. She started as an enlisted woman, and has done a century of service at least. She's done at least a dozen combat deployments, and numerous space deployments. The difference being specifically going to a conflict zone, and floating around on an Apuk Imperial Navy vessel looking for trouble.”
Sir David doffs an imaginary cap. “An activity I heartily approve of.”
Ariane rolls her eyes with a smile before continuing.
“She has five wound medals, an even dozen valor medals in varying grades and has been named as a member of an Imperial martial order. Knights for lack of a better word. Not all that dissimilar from you really if you'd had another forty years with the Royal Marines and SAS. Then there's a variety of competence awards that aren't as important. Suffice to say, Miri'Tok is very good at what she does."
"Hmmm. Yes I could see that in the fight, and you think she's interested in me?"
Ariane rises, and saunters the step or two to David slowly, placing her hands on his shoulders and leaning down to kiss him deeply.
"Darling, from her axiom she's single. From what she tells us about how her family treats men and views sorcerers, you're literally one in a billion... and she got to fight alongside you. I've heard Ghorza Bridger crowing about getting to fight side by side with the Captain at a bar on the promenade after the Talasar Spire with the same enthusiasm most girls save for a once in a lifetime present or getting pregnant. I also could tell that her shield sisters were green with envy. Well. Greener than normal anyway. If Miri'Tok wasn't interested, I'd be worried she'd hit her head in the fight. Plus her body always seemed to be facing you, except when she was speaking directly to me."
Ariane stands back up and tucks some of her hair back into place, with an exaggerated attempt at a glamorous, flirtatious pose..
"Well, with such a gifted potential candidate it wouldn't exactly be a hardship to share. I'll just have to take solace in the fact that I'll always have a bigger rack than her."
David's eyes naturally drift downwards from her face, considering the rack in question, only for a slightly embarrassed Ariane to stick a finger up to direct his attention back upwards before covering her reddened face with her hands.
"My horns David. I meant my horns. I have bigger horns than she does."
It takes every fiber of discipline he's ever possessed for David to suppress the cheeky grin that desperately wanted to plaster itself across his face, and to tame the school boy giggle fit he so dearly wanted to have. He stiffens his upper lip like a proper British gentleman and manages to dryly respond.
"Well my dear, let's not talk about other women. You have a fantastic rack and I look forward to appreciating it later tonight."
Ariane shoots him a look, clearly over acting her slight embarrassment into mock outrage, playing along with her husband easily.

2023.06.09 17:02 DisorganisedPigeon Ex (f31) called me (m31) a sociopath and blocked me after contacting her mother about our breakup. Do you think I am one or was she lashing out?
Me and my ex had broken up a couple of times in our 9 months together. I was always caring and loving, but we did have bouts of arguing and disagreements which eventually drained her and she called it quits. She lost her son 3 years ago and had been getting counselling lately, suffers from depression, autistic and doesn’t like to go out much because of it.
When she broke up I pushed a bit questioning why as she was so into me a few days before. It got to the point we sent a few long messages back snd forth but could tell she was getting annoyed so I dropped it and apologised.
She replied back but I decided not to. The following morning she sends me this: “Right no! Absolutely not! Why the fuck are you messaging my mum! Fuck off! Leave me alone. I don’t want you anywhere near me! How fucking dare you message my mum and show her conversations of us! Your a fucking psychopath! Keys gone in the bin! Now! Now I don’t want anything to do with you!!”.
Her mother had been helping me understand how she works in difficult times (as my ex didn’t speak much about it) and I’d brought up a conversation of when she was excited for a holiday and house and told her I was confused why she wanted to break it off. Her mother was supportive but I realised I crossed a boundary here.
My ex found out as I forgot I asked her mother to chase up my spare key and then I’d already asked my ex after.
Two hours after she sent that message, she saw me typing then blocked me on whatsapp.
I’ve attempted to apologise on instagram last week but she left it unread, so this week I posted a letter apologising it was wrong for me to cross that boundary, wishing her luck in future.

When she broke up I pushed a bit questioning why as she was so into me a few days before. It got to the point we sent a few long messages back snd forth but could tell she was getting annoyed so I dropped it and apologised.
She replied back but I decided not to. The following morning she sends me this: “Right no! Absolutely not! Why the fuck are you messaging my mum! Fuck off! Leave me alone. I don’t want you anywhere near me! How fucking dare you message my mum and show her conversations of us! Your a fucking psychopath! Keys gone in the bin! Now! Now I don’t want anything to do with you!!”.
Her mother had been helping me understand how she works in difficult times (as my ex didn’t speak much about it) and I’d brought up a conversation of when she was excited for a holiday and house and told her I was confused why she wanted to break it off. Her mother was supportive but I realised I crossed a boundary here.
My ex found out as I forgot I asked her mother to chase up my spare key and then I’d already asked my ex after.
Two hours after she sent that message, she saw me typing then blocked me on whatsapp.
I’ve attempted to apologise on instagram last week but she left it unread, so this week I posted a letter apologising it was wrong for me to cross that boundary, wishing her luck in future.

I digress, this is concerning a very particular incident. I don't know how to label it, and I feel like it needs a label in my mind. For context: My mother is originally from the caribbean (born and raised), I don't know much about her childhood but do suspect she's walking around with her own brand of unresolved CPTSD. She met my father when she was barely starting puberty, he was already an adult. Got pregnant with older sister at only 14 giving birth not long after her 15th only to get pregnant again before her 16th this time with me. Why is this important? 1) father basically denied my existence until I was 5 yo, so apparently, I ruined her relationship with the "love of her life" and most importantly, 2) she became obsessed with our virginity.
It's getting a bit long so here it goes, skipping ahead to when I was 14 not far from turning 15, she got it into her head that I was having sex behind her back, I was the rebellious black sheep in jer eyes. Her solution *this is where i'd put the trigger* she decided to play medical professional even though there's literally no feasible way to confirm or disprove "virginity". There I was on her bed, naked from the waist down, as if in a gynecology appoint with a flashlight being shined at my *ahem*. I felt: violated, exposed, vulnerable, angry, anxious, sick to my core. I became even more depressed, and I just gave up. I lost my virginity at 15 to a 20 something yo guy, I had only met once before, putting myself in such an unsafe situation that I'll look back now and realize how stupid I was. but, thats for another day.

I’m a data analyst, but most of my day to day work is just reporting, I’d like to do more data science and I’m hoping a masters will be a good way to prepare and get a pay raise. I know you can learn everything for free or close to it online but I think a masters can be worth it as long as it’s not insanely expensive, please let me know if I’m wrong.
I’m also considering a program at Eastern University but it seems not as technical as I’d like.
And I’d love to hear about online programs in general. How hard is it to network? What’s the job opportunities like?

Currently I have a job, but I have not gotten a raise in 2 1/2 years. Part of it was I struggled with a switch in procedure for half a year but then was able to turn it around. I will be at the half year review and numbers have been looking a lot better for the most part. I am going to discuss the cost of living with my boss (he is an economics major so might frame it from that angle in a casual way). Ot is good, but I am not sure how long that will be a thing so I don't want to solely rely on that. However, that is not what I am here to ask about.
I have been looking for jobs that use my larger pool of talents (Python and SQL). I applied to one job and it called me back 30 minutes later. In fairness it is a contractor for a larger company, but I was missing the VBA skill and PowerBI. They said they would talk to their boss and call me back on Monday for a yea or nay. I have applied to about 60 jobs in a week and it made me wonder if my limited time I have would be better spent on an automation script at my current job (mostly in PowerShell) and working on upskilling with Excel and PowerBI (and maybe Tableau, but Excel seems like a more urgent skill) or if I should say screw it and go full bore into the job search with Python and SQL. How do you balance upskilling vs looking for a job (especially when you have a job currently)?

Basically, the premise is that people post pictures of themselves (or their friends who they're trying to "auction" off) along with a bio and everyone else in the group is free to comment on the post and DM if interested.
Being the analytical type, of course I'd like to see what other guys have posted so I know what my competition is like. Just from a cursory glance, the results made me slightly depressed.
What I found is that the guys who like instagram models - very handsome, shirtless pic showing off their abs and muscles, well dressed - get hundreds of comments and likes and interactions, which is no surprise, they look like models after all.
But whenever there is a post that features an average looking guy, they're lucky to even get couple of comments and interactions. And usually, the comments are from other guys saying "Good luck bro" and "keep your head high king" or tips on how to improve himself. The difference is night and day, and it's really alarming.
For posts featuring women, they usually get a few hundreds of comments and likes even if they look average in their photos, and if they look like instagram models they'll get many, many more.
Now, I do take care of myself, go to the gym, workout, and I try to dress stylishly, but I am very aware that I look nothing like what the top guys do. To me, the thought of posting myself and getting zero results gives me anxiety, and overall, it seems like a futile effort.
