TLDR- How did fellow journalists at the time and in the decades following Kid Canns reign feel about Sid Hartmann's association with Cann and other mobsters
So I fell into a rabbit hole around the red light district/mobster history of MN. Read all about Kidd Cann, his stranglehold on the city and state government and the many murders he carried out on journalists who exposed his associations and crimes.
One thing I was curious about though was Sid Hartman's connection to Kidd Cann and the AZ Syndicate. Obviously Sid has come to know a bunch of famous people as a local sports reporter. He claims Cann and him were lifelong friends. In the book Sid! by Patrick Ruesse, Hartmann talks about being friends with Cann and associates as they were fellow Jewish kids from the Northside. Hartmann evens recalls how he almost got arrested with Cann on night at a Jazz Club but begged the police to let him go. Seems like a fascinating book which I unfortunately haven't found a copy of and only read snippets I found online.
However, Kid Cann's reputation and exploits were well known at this point in the 1930s. He was widely believed to have killed many journalists who campaigned against corruption. Including a high profile case involving mob ties between Cann and Governor Olson. He would remain a powerful force in liqour sales followingnthe end of prohibition and shady business practices for another 20+ years before being arrested on transporting a woman for prostitution over state lines. A sports journalist being close friends of a man who kills reporters seems like it would anger others in the profession, some of whom may have had associations with the deceased.
My question is this- How did fellow journalists at the time and in the decades following Kid Canns reign feel about Sid Hartmann's association with Cann? What was the nature of their friendship? Did Hartmanns stature in local sports affect the perception of his friendship with local mobsters?

Hi all! I have an airport transportation question.
First, a rant:
I was aware that WDW was no longer offering Disney's Magical Express. It disappointed me when that change was made because I think people spend so much money to go to Disney World, they often don't leave the WDW bubble, and they spend all of their money for a week at WDW. It seems like it should be a small thing for Disney to offer free transportation from the airport, like so many hotels do! But I digress.
Now the problem/question:
I thought it was still an option to add on Mears to the reservation and just pay for it. However, when I went to book, the only ground transportation offered through the Disney website was a rental car! What?! So now they don't even offer you to book the paid shuttle through them? It's very frustrating.
I went to the Mears website, and they have a sale going on right now to book $15 per person each way. I think that's a great deal if you're a family of 1-3, but we're a family of 4. Surely paying $60 each way to and from the airport is too much! What do families do? Book a taxi in advance? Hope Ubers are available when you land? How much have Ubers and taxis cost you? Thanks for the help!

Hi PFC,
Before reaching out to a real estate lawyer, I’m trying to do some research on the most effective way for a parent to sell their home to their children.
I’m currently living in a condo and looking to upsize. Due to the current conditions of the market, my parents have graciously offered to sell me their home at a price lower than fair market value, since they are planning to downsize anyways. I’m an only child so they think of this as an early inheritance. However, my parents also need money to purchase a condo that they will downsize to, so we plan to sell the house to me instead of transferring ownership. This way I can get a mortgage from the bank and it will fund my parents purchase of the condo. I have a few questions:
- Does it make sense for us to structure the sale this way? For example, if my parents home is currently worth 1.5m but they intend to gift me 500k discount, I need to come up with the remaining 1mil. Assuming I can give them the 200k down payment in cash, and get a mortgage of 800k from the bank, my parents would receive the 1m from me upon closing which will be used to fund their condo purchase?
- What are the fees associated with a private deal? Just real estate lawyer fees and land transfer tax? Is the land transfer tax calculated based on the purchase price?
- Is there any benefit for my parents to sell me the house at 1 mil (or any other price) instead of the fair market value? The home will become my primary residence so I believe there won’t be any tax implications in the future if I sell?

Edit 1: my parents home is currently their principal residence. my parents intend to downsize to a condo which will become their new principal residence, while the house sold to me will become my new principal residence.

2023.06.09 16:01 Freek_Alique Need to vent. I feel so defeated.
Back in January we had a false report come in. It was the firs time we ever had to deal with these people. Not to mention the urgency was not even there cause it took 2 weeks to make initial contact with someone. This has been drug out over a course of now 5 months. So they first gave me a drug test via mouth swab. It came up hot for codiene which I don't even take. They originally said we were doing a saftey plan because of it. While also never explaining the depth of it. And my mom is the only one able to watch my kid, or supervision with us. So we signed it to keep her out of foster. So they never enforced anything and said they were trying to get funding for my child to goto daycare during the day so my mom can work. I am and have been clean but two out of 4 tests have come back dirty when i know its bullshit. So the lady originally on our case would come once a month for 10 mins the lst 4 months. Never once updated us on funding status nor enforced us to have my mom be here 24/7. So i have been home with my kid ever since and my mom goes to work as usual just to keep a roof over our heads. Not to mention our landlord died and we have less then 30 days to get out now. So the other day i guess a new case worker came. And literally the only thing that saved us was not having any copies of anything. So my mom now has to not work to be here with me and my kid and we have a move out date of june 30th coming up right now in which we already had to make a go fund me for. But if she can't work we are gonna end up homeless and already probably gonna be facing eviction if we can't get out by the 30th. i am clean but they keep taking these stupid mouth swabs and its hit or miss so its just never ending. We are over here drowning and right now and i feel so defeated as is because we been tryna find a place to move to for a month now and still cant even land a tour or calls back. So as if shit wasn't already hard enough. We told them its their fault for not even enforcing anything that whole time if it was really supposed to be this deep. And the shit part is even if my tests comes back negative i still have to have more clean tests come back which seems impossible with these things. Its like every other test comes up with something. And my kid can't get into daycare because she needs an autism evaul. And we know how long the waitlists are for those. Plus the intermediate unit can't even help us in the county we live in. I can't sleep i want to throwntf up. i want to protect her from the system but it just feels like they are cornering us in the worst way possible. And its coming down to having to put her in foster until we can establish moving and so my mom doesn't lose her job. And no we cannot afford an attorney. Its god awful right now. I just can't. And my mom is 72 and has heart problems and is also stressed out i am terrified this will take her out too. We both just cry anymore. Its just not cool. Idk what would even be better anymore at this point.

"Buy a house for 650k, we will pay 30k GBP mortgage for you."
The sale on HM land registry still will be 650k so the "value" of the houses in the new development (as appraised by banks for future mortgages etc etc) is what fake number the builder sets, and not what people actually end up paying.
Then, statistics will show how the house price is stable or not going down, perpetuating this nonsensical cycle.
